(00:02):
Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adamtalking your teams. Adam Clinton and Adam
Wexler. Are the A Team Ateam? Boy? Well, what's up,
Houston, Texas? It is theA Team here on Sports Talk seven

(00:23):
ninety by way of Vegas and someyou know, down tree limbs and whatnot.
Pretty much what you guys are dealingwith out there. So we'll we'll
try to entertain those of you whoare able to hear us for the next
three hours here on Sports Talk sevenninety. But wex literally fresh in from
Vegas, like you just drove up. Yeah, just drove up completely from

(00:48):
Vegas to Austin, to the rentalcar to the station, excited to be
here. We'll get you all thevery important and super timely personal Vegas details
overly course of the next show.I'm sure you guys are super interested in
that. But there were a coupleof interesting things that did take place there

(01:08):
that certainly find a home here onthis show. If I have my days
right, Today's ninth of July.I did not know what day it was
until about two hours so Monday,July first began the second half of twenty
twenty four. The Astros played baseballduring the day. I took the show

(01:29):
from five o'clock until the extended edition, a very special, almost first time
ever extended edition of The A Teamup until seven o'clock. Then I rolled
out of town. You took theshows leading up to the fourth of July
holiday, correct, So that gotus through the rest of the week.
Yesterday, neither you nor I wereable to attend the show. I mean

(01:52):
again, a phone call could havebeen made. I could have participated in
some form of fashion in the showyourself as well. Your pilots said no,
in my dry said no. SoDan and Chris, we're able to
take you guys through yesterday's edition ofThe A Team. And here we are
on July ninth, for our firstshow together. The second half of twenty

(02:13):
twenty four to nine days in andin those nine days, the Astros wrapped
up a ten game road trip, not the way they would have wanted to
wrap it up, and so thereare elements of what took place to close
out the Minnesota series we certainly needto discuss today. As you've heard throughout
the day, there is Astros Baseballhere tonight, a minute made park up

(02:36):
and running, Constellation Field, TBD, but minute May Park ready to welcome
fans in, and we'll give yousome additional details on tonight's game, with
Renel Blanco expected to make the start, which also means if all remains on
schedule, he would pitch against Sunday, which would prevent them from righting a
wrong which left him off of theAll Star team which was announced during our

(02:59):
respective absences. Obviously, we're wellaware of what's going on with both ourselves
and our homes and lots and lotsof people in this county and many others,
especially as we go coastal because ofHurricane Barrel, and we will additional
details as needed. Hopefully, thetwelve thousand workers that are now patrolling our

(03:22):
cities and driving their trucks around andin some cases unfortunately but necessarily shutting off
power so they then can restore poweris all part of this whole process.
Power to the Astros lineup seemingly wouldbe gone when both of their All Star
outfielders, Jordon Alvarez and Kyle Tuckerare unable to play, and it became

(03:45):
a big topic in Jordon's case becauseof the beanbawlling that has been happening with
the Astros. The Astros are middleof the pack for the season, and
how many times their batters have beenhit. They are number one in baseball
over the last twelve games, andhow often their players have been hit thirteen
times in just the last twelve games, and in two of those instances it

(04:09):
sent people to the sidelines Altuve andAlvarez. Jospota made his weekly appearance on
The Matt Thomas Show today to deliverthe first of the updates on those She'll
have more when he meets with themedia over at the ballpark this afternoon.
It is definitely something to discuss howMajor League Baseball or the players or the

(04:29):
respective teams and pitchers patrol these typesof things. But yeah, we've been
away for a bit, so it'sgood to be back here with you,
share whatever misery we can together andget you back into the second part of
twenty twenty four. You've been You'velived in Houston a lot longer than I
have. But I've lived here sinceeighty nine and my dad's in eighty Fustonian,

(04:50):
So that's to say we've seen ourfair share of stuff. I'll never
listen again to someone telling me it'sonly a cat one It's not gonna be
that bad. Come on, man, I didn't hear too many people say
the second part because I think it'sassumed it's a cat one. It's not
gonna be that bad. And it'sthe I don't even know how to describe

(05:13):
it when you know, obviously Iwasn't able to drive around much of the
city until today, and even todaywas all I tend to hear, right,
So it's very not through downtown.Obviously, coming through Austin a sign
or two, a handful of trees, some leaning poles, and clear electricity.
Working restaurants had back parking lots, certain home improvement stores had plenty of

(05:35):
people coming in and out. Somost of that particular area. And we
know what kind of storm this wasand why the customers out on Bolivar and
beyond they're in much more peril thanwell, that's why there was a mandatory
evacuation, right, and the thingsthat go along with it. But yeah,
for this two have happened with Direcco, the Directo and this relatively close

(05:59):
together. It shouldn't have. Youknow, how many years do we want
to go back saying this, this, this, and this, But it
does seem like a little bit moreoften the catastrophic effects, whether it's just
monetary damages, physical property damages, and obviously now the massive inclusion of power
outages, Wi Fi outages, Obviouslysome of the providers are really struggling to

(06:23):
get people back up and running.I was trying to communicate with people just
check on their situations, and youknow, twelve fifteen, twenty four hours
after I'd reached out, they'd reachback and say, haven't had cell service,
haven't had why I haven't had powerhaving it? And know, just
you know, everything's fine other thanthis this or this is this, Yeah,
it's Look, it's always different theseverity of all of those categories you

(06:45):
mentioned, but that has been that'sbeen the weirdest part for me, Like
we're still out of power. Ithink the two just monstrous shit suos that
we own and call dogs will beokay because they're not out in it.
But it's a little bomby. Hada little bomby at the Clanton house.
So I didn't put it this way. Once the driveway was cleared, sometime

(07:06):
in the middle of when I shouldhave been probably into our say eighth segment
yesterday, I was I was happyto know that we could just leave the
house anytime we wanted, and wedid. By the way, last night,
I got a little stir crazy andI've never enjoyed a cold shower more
because when you get like that. But yeah, when you've got when you

(07:26):
add the toddler, the five yearold to the situation, and he doesn't
understand why is why is my iPadnot working? He's a first world problems
car soon, no doubt. Soyeah, it's but yeah, you get
away and you actually get the acthat's in the car, and I very
very like it's crazy because two treesfell in my front yard. One came

(07:46):
over the driveway from the neighbors andthen the other one fell and they both
felt the exact direction. That wasprobably the least expensive, which so we're
very, very lucky on that front. But I know a lot of people
out there cannot say the same.Sauce some damage just in my neighborhood,
that's just insane. And you know, living on the southwest side of town,
I think it's safe to say thatif you live anywhere below I ten

(08:11):
and to the left of two eightyeight, you probably got the worst of
it. As far as damage goes. So yeah, obviously shout out to
all of you guys that are goingthrough it and best of luck. It's
no fun for any of us,and we'll all get through it like we
always do because that's what we dohere in the Gulf Coast region of the
country. Yeah, so the ideaof what's been going on with the ASTRO
is clearly a topic. Also, during the first week of July we open

(08:35):
the let's talk to and sign withoutmaking it official free agents around the NBA.
Trades have now been completed since overthe weekend when the more tourum was
lifted. Rockets very much uninvolved inthose activities, though very much impacted by
what's been taking place this offseason.A week ago, I think it was

(08:56):
pretty obvious that Paul George leaving theWest and go going east was of great
significance. Well, probably of equal, if not greater significance, is east
or eastern to western DeMar DeRozan,a team like the Kings. Was this
year that the Rockets or somebody behindthe Kings could pass the Kings, so

(09:16):
that certainly is at play. Ijust left Vegas, and obviously during that
time it's pretty noteworthy how much ofthe sports world is actually focused there.
Today was day one of Big twelvemedia days at Allegiant Stadium. Later on
this week, the Mountain West willhave their big media days in Vegas.
Funny story about that, and Ihave to check on which player it was.

(09:37):
One of the teams was sending oneof its players to the event,
which is being held at one ofthe only really new downtown casinos, Circus
Sports. Fantastic. Matt and Rosswill be making their way there in August.
It's phenomenal. It's all based aroundsports. You guys are I'm sure
seeing the Circus Sports Pool, this, that, and the other. It's

(09:58):
also twenty one and over. Oneof the players being sent there not twenty
one years old. He will behaving his press conference at a different hotel.
How dumb it is not allowed it, But do you think when they
sit down to figure out these things, you know, some of these guys
aren't of age. Maybe we couldhave it, I don't know, fifty
billion other places in this city. You know, who do we send and

(10:20):
do we compensate for that or accommodatefor that? And obviously basketball at a
big degree going on in Vegas.I think it's a huge, huge deal
the last three days for Amen Thompsonand Jabari Smith Junior, the men's basketball
team headed to the Olympics, workingagainst them the last three days. They'll
have an exhibition game tomorrow. Twodays after that, Reed Shephard and new

(10:43):
twenty plus year old Cam Whitmore willlead the Rockets summer League team into action,
maybe against Brownie James. I don'tknow how his knee feels, but
the Lakers are their first opponent. So there are a lot of things going
on. And if you haven't noticedany relatively recent social media posts from your
football team, CJ. Stroud,Brevin Jordan, and a few others.

(11:03):
Today is July ninth. We areunder ten days. Let's go baby until
they will be a single digit fieldpracticing for the twenty twenty four season at
Texans training camp. So a lotto get to Astros lineup is out.
Both of the recent hit batsman forthe Astros will be in tonight's lineup.

(11:26):
You will get the all screwed Marlinsand everything else. Yes, the Astros
also will catch their loane break, maybe one of two breaks they're getting week
this entire month, and we'll runthrough that as well as the lineup because
of the Marlins tonight for Houston Astroshere on Sports Talk seven ninety. All

(11:46):
right, let's talk about what youneed to be at your best, and
that is your testosterone level where itneeds to be. And I can tell
you this right now cleaning up someof the mess that I did from a
physical standpoint. I'm not even makinglight of this. It's just different.
When you have your testosterone level whereit needs to be, you're able to
do things from a physical standpoint, like working out or in this case,

(12:11):
you gotta move an entire tree byhand. Well, it helps if you're
functioning on all four cylinders. Ifyou will as a man, and with
Men's Tea Clinic involved, you'll beable to do just that. You are
going to have your testosterone levels wherethey need to be and you can do
what thousands of Houston area men havedone with the Men's Health Pros and Total
Wellness Optimization Team at five Houston arealocations, the Heights, Cyprus, Paarland,

(12:35):
Pasadena and Spring are available to younow. Some of them may not
have air conditioning right now, someof them may not be at full capacity,
but they are all here to helpyou out, and before you know
it, they'll be up and runningat one hundred percent, just like every
business here in town on the otherside of the Hurricane Shenanigans. But once
you go into one of those fiveHouston area locations, you can find out

(12:58):
all the information need to it Men'st Clinic dot Com. They'll have flexible
appointment times, they'll have cash andinsurance options, and they'll have it all
easy for you to get in,get out, and get back to being

Visit Men's TA Clinic dot com.We now return to Adam Clinton and Adam

(13:22):
wexlerth on Sports Talk seven ninety.Great to be back here with you.
We are in studio here. It'sthe eighteen XAC Dan here with you on
a Tuesday afternoon off day for theAstros yesterday after the recently completed ten game
road trip through three cities, threeteams, two series victories, and it's

(13:45):
super exciting but or rather unfortunate endingto the three game series in Minnesota with
a couple of losses. Some hitby pitches, and we'll get to that
again here as welcome you in onthe phone lines for anything that's on your
mind and are you sharing some detailswith everything going on wherever you might be
with our listeners here seven one three, two one two five seven ninety.
First, I'll give you the lineupfor today as they open up a three

(14:05):
game series with the thirty two winMiami Marlins thirty two and fifty eight through
their ninety games, the Astros fortysix and forty four through their ninety games.
One of the best teams in baseballsince we told you about the Mexico
City reboot. Right here on thea team with those thirty nine wins in

(14:26):
that time. Altuve Bregman and thedesignated hitter Jordan Alvarez go one two three
tonight. Their catcher for Renel Blancois Jiner Diaz, Jeremy Paenia and John
Singleton go five to six, Singletoncontributing quite a bit over the last half
of this ten game road trip.Jake Myers back in center, the left

(14:46):
fielder is Mauricio Dubon, and theright fielder is Chas McCormick. A left
handed pitcher on the Mound tonight forthe Marlins. He is awesome. He
is looking for his tenth loss ofthe season and brings in a four nine
one eer. So hopefully Trevor Rodgerswon't have anything and the Astros predominantly right

(15:07):
handed hitting lineup will take care ofit. Alvarez Singleton the two lefties out
there, and obviously a lot ofleft handed punch on the Astros bench,
Mister greatest catch of the year Joeylow Perfito among those on the bench,
mentioned the All Star teams, mentionedthe hit batsman, and the other things
going on. We want to getsome of your thoughts in on the program

(15:28):
today. We'll get into our thoughtson the bullpen, especially the closer as
of late growing BP to whomever. One of the worst hitting catchers in baseball,
Christian Vasquez ending one of the gamesagainst the Astros with one swing against
Josh Hater rather unfortunate. But we'llget started on the phones and get Brent
in here on a Tuesday edition withthe A team. Hey, Brent,

(15:50):
what do you got for us today? Oh? How y'all doing? Man?
I appreciate I'm calling you from Railey. We's in a little small town
by laugh and I just got youall on the hit to day listening and
I enjoy y'all every day. Awesome, thank you. And I'm going to
say, I hate to say this, but if they keep on hitting our
good players, I think they're gonnahave one of those bitch clear and brows

(16:11):
to let people know that we tardit is. What do you think about
that? I think you're probably right, which is why it is the worst
the Astros and I've said this forall these years, they've been the best
team in the American League. It'sthe worst thing in the world to get
involved with this because all you're doingis putting your own players in jeopardy.
But on the other hand, howdo you keep it from happening? If

(16:33):
your players on the team, youwant your pitchers and your manager to a
certain degree to protect you. Butobviously the only way to do that is
hit them. And then when youhit them, what do they do?
Then they hit you, and thenwhat do you do? Well, then
you hit them and look you gothit. Just in this last series,
Jose Al Tuve is needing to missa game at the end of this road
trip. He came back. Obviously, isn't in the lineup today. Jord

(16:53):
On Alvarez was hit on the kneemultiple times, and I do think most
people believe it was an intentional certainlythrowing inside as part of the game,
hitting people intentionally as not. Andthen who got hit on the other side.
The best player on the other teamCarlos Korea, and he's been hit
multiple times just in the last sevento ten games in the very same place,

(17:14):
just like what's happened to the Astros. All you're doing is setting your
teams up to continue it. Thisis something that probably will be done more
in my opinion, because of howthey changed the schedule. If this were
an Astros, A's Angels, Rangersor Mariners series, you absolutely can't have
it because you had nineteen games againstone another. The Astros aren't playing the

(17:37):
Twins again this year until they beathim in the playoffs potentially, so now
they don't have to worry about itanymore. But it was sure no fun
to go through while it was takingplace, and to go from a team
that was, like I said, middle of the pack fifteenth, sixteenth,
seventeenth, and how often their hittershad been hit by pitches to thirteen times
in twelve games. It's not acoincidence that yard on Alva was the hottest

(18:00):
left handed hitter in the American League. It's not a coincidence the Astros has
started winning all these games and pilingup all these runs. It's I always
go back to Clemens and Piazza. Now it's on a bigger team versus team
scale. Roger Clemens could not getMike Piazza out often enough for his liking,
so he hit him. But thatwas what he threw a piece of

(18:22):
shrap him too. I also don'tmean one time, right, I mean
it was a repeated process and that'swhat teams now. It's you know,
they've intenttionally walked Jorda On quite abit here recently, and most of the
time that's the smart baseball move. There's nothing smart about throwing it, guys.
No, And you're right, theresidual that comes about, and the
caller is right, frankly, butthat is a old school Wild West way

(18:47):
of doing things. I struggle withit because what you're saying the by the
letter of the law and from thesheer physics of it, and you know,
health and well being portion of theargument. There is no argument it
shouldn't be done on the flip side. If you're gonna throw at not one,
but two of the Astros' best players, I'm not going to get completely

(19:11):
upset if your best players get thrownat as well, even when one of
them is a former Astro who hita grand slam. By the way Friday
night. Now, I wanted Isaid it, and I wanted to mean
something because it wanted it to bemeaningless. Yeah, it was meaningless in
that game, but it sure feltlike and you know what, the Twins,
Hey, we're just as good asthese guys are. Maybe it's not

(19:33):
tonight, but maybe it's the nextnight or the next night. I tend
to think if you're down thirteen tofive, you're not as good as the
other team. But that's just meon that night. But look, here's
the deal. He's been crap againstthe Astros. He was what five for
forty two coming into that at bat. But you recall the postseason. Yeah,
no, I didn't want any partof that at but he was so
good in the postseason. He wason deck, Yes, he was on
deck for that final out, andI was like, it was Presley,

(19:56):
wouldn't it Presley? Please get thisout, because I don't I want to
see you specifically, by the way, facing And since we're on that subject,
I know a lot of people arestill going through things and so this
seems trivial. But my god,Josh Hater, do you have to give
up a home run every single timeyou emican appearance for ninety five million?
I think I don't need that.He's in a little bit of a BP

(20:18):
mode right now and needs to getout of it. And obviously more of
that from us that we need toget into. Like I mentioned a couple
of times, you need to getto one more caller here on the A
team. Here, let's go toBrian in the Woodlands. Hey, Brian
Lima, what's going on today? Is he laughing at us? There?

(20:40):
He is? Kidd guys here,No, by the way, this is
Brian Lilima of course, with theSean Salisbury Show mornings here on Sports Talk
seven ninety six to ten am.So among the first voices you got to
hear after our unfriendly tropical storm Hurricaneb came to town. We can hear
you, but not that well, what would you have for us? Yeah,

(21:04):
he's underwater now even worse, andI don't even mean that. Ah,
this is brutal. We're just gonnahave to We're gon We're gonna have
to let him go, have tocall it, call it. It's the
time, three twenty seven. He'sdone. Sorry, Lilianma. We tried.
It's probably not even you can tryagain. We are on until six.
It's a fifty to fifty proposition thatit's his service or our phones.

(21:26):
And yet rent from Louisiana made itperfectly in. So you make your deductions
about that, all right, So, yeah, we need to get to
some of the things that still happen. That's the thing. When you're coming
in on a daylight today and itwas an off day yesterday for the astros,
you feel like you really need tosort of recap. We will certainly
do that because I mentioned something.Boy, did my blood pressure get up

(21:48):
when I started talking about that.Uh, And there's another thing that'll probably
get my blood pressure up again thatwex sort of sort of like kind of
mentioned briefly in the first segment. We'll get to or that, as well
as the Josh Hater situation and somuch more as we continue here on a
Tuesday edition of The A Team.I want to tell you right now that
look, I don't know if youhave access to everything you need to right

(22:11):
now, but when you do againand you get back in touch with that
checking account at prime Way Federal CreditUnion, you're gonna be so happy that
while everything has been going on,you didn't have to worry about anything like
the nefarious side of the world. When things like this happen, you know,
natural disasters and catastrophes and just allaround bad weather incidents happen to you.

(22:33):
Some people like to take advantage ofthat. Well, when you have
dark web monitoring, just for havinga checking account with Primewave Federal Credit Union,
it just makes you have all themore peace of mind at a time
where frankly, you don't have alot of that insight mobile phone protection.
Maybe something happened as a result ofthis storm that damaged or had you misplaced
that phone. They've got you coveredwhen you have that checking account with prime

(22:56):
Wave Federal Credit Union. And thenthey'll throw in things like shoppring rewards,
travel and leisure discounts, telehealth, and even twenty four to seven roadside assistance.
That sounds like another thing that mighthave come in handy during the past
forty eight hours or so. Andon top of all that, you can
earn up to two percent interest onthat account. I'm giving you a lot
of reasons to sign up with PrimewayFederal Credit Union, and I'm very disappointed

(23:18):
that you haven't yet go over totheir website and do just that. Today.
There's a user friendly, easy onlineapplication located right there and PRIMEWAYFCU dot
com. Visit Primeway FCU dot comtoday. This is Jabari Smith Chickbari for
three deal wat threes, got it? Thanks Clutch with the iHeartRadio app Here
every Rockets game on Sports Talk sevennineties the middle of our number one of

(23:45):
this July ninth edition of the eighteenX and ac here with you Dan as
well, talking our way through theAstros return home. They are only six
games remaining before the All Star breakin Major League Baseball. Tuesday through Sunday,
all will be at home for theAstros, the going Nowhere Marlins first
for three Tuesday through Thursday, andthe probably also going nowhere but still pretending

(24:07):
they're not Texas Rangers Friday through Sunday. All indications are the Astros will need
a fifth starter during this homestand JakeBloss throwing fifty five pitches over the weekend
for the sugar Lighted Space Cowboys hopefullyprovides for his availability, though I'm not
sure how the timing works out withwhere they'll need one and how he'll fit
in renew Blanco goes Tonight's presumably couldor will go again on Sunday. Kyle

(24:33):
Tucker, Jose Altuve, and JordanAlvarez, the current trio of Astros selected
to represent the American League in theAll Star Game in Arlington. Arlington next
week will also include the arrival ofthe SEC teams for their media days.
So a lot of things going onin sports here over what normally seems like

(24:56):
a little lighter time around the Julyfourth holiday. Major League Baseball's team Tames
will also have several days off Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday before picking
things back up with the Mariners andAstros. Astros from ten games back to
two games back seemingly overnight when theywon thirteen out of fifteen and the Mariners
couldn't find their way to hardly anyvictories than things stabilized at least a little

(25:19):
bit. The Astros aren't quite ashot and the Mariners have managed to keep
the Astros from getting overnight closer thanwithin the two games they are back of
them. Currently, Well, itjust sucks because every time you look at
the scoreboard after a loss like theAstros suffered the past two outings, and
you're like, oh, well,at least the Mariners didn't win too,

(25:40):
And then you're like, well theMariners didn't win two. You could have
gained, you could have been tied, you could have I mean, so
if you win all of your gamesalmost all the time, yes, but
it just feels like they never Therewas a while there where they were losing
on the same night and that's wherethat making up those games came from.
But since that two game gap,it's basically been whatever happens, so goes

(26:03):
the other team, and so youhaven't been able to make up that ground.
But I'm telling you, coming outof the All Star break, if
things keep going like this, oryou know, maybe even the Astros inch
a little bit closer, maybe passthem. It's possible. Certainly is the
Astros again have to concern themselves witha handful of teams in the American League,
and it might begin to include theYankees, but it includes the Red

(26:26):
Sox, who are a wild cardteam currently. It includes the team that
just beat the Astros in a seriesagain, the Minnesota Twins. It includes
the Kansas City Royals, and itobviously includes the Seattle Mariners. If this
final series before the All Star Breakgoes poorly against the Rangers, then it
would include them as well. TheAstros have had as much of a as
a six game advantage over the Rangers, but that gap has gotten smaller here

(26:49):
of late. Rangers are still fivegames under five hundred, basically where the
Astros had been all season. Astrostwo games over at forty six and forty
four, three and a half backspot in the wildcard race two back.
As we mentioned, of the Mariners, they're forty nine and forty three have
played two more games than have theAstros. They have a series against the

(27:11):
San Diego Padres, who are amongthe many teams in the National League fighting
for playoff positioning. They are currentlyone of the wildcard teams. They've been
playing pretty good baseball despite the lasttwo games being losses, and we know
the Mariners have not played particularly wellaway from home. The Astros have three
more wins away from home than theMariners do twenty two to twenty five versus
the Mariners nineteen and twenty five. And again, the way the Astros have

(27:33):
been playing at home, you probablyhave forgotten because they've been on the road
for so long. They've won sixstraight Minute Made Park. They've played tremendous
baseball at home. Started four andnine, have since gone twenty and ten
in their last thirty games a minuteMade Park. The next game is tonight.
Again Astros and Marlins series goes onas scheduled. It's Tuesday, Dollar

(27:56):
Dogs powers on. Thus air conditioningwill be blowing and significantly reduced ticket prices
for portions of the facility, ie. The top of it, but
you can get in. Look,if you're sitting at home tonight, and
I told us to my wife, our power is still out, you're gonna,
you know, head on home afterdoing some work up here with him,

(28:21):
throw some different clothes on, andlet's go sit in an air conditioned
stadium as opposed to sitting in adark tonight, because that's the odds right
now. And if you can getin for dirt cheap on top of it,
and it's dollar Dog night, wellthen that also takes care of dinner,
because this just in a lot ofthe power places around our place do
not have power either. So let'skill two birds with one stone. Let's
get to you guys again here onthe phone. It's always welcome to join

(28:45):
us anytime, and certainly this timea good time to do so. At
seven one three two one two fiveseven ninety. Oh what's going on?
Mark? What do you have forus today? No? Much? How
are y'all? Great? Man?That's good? So would you rather do
this trade Bregman for Guerrero? BecauseI was thinking of this, that trade

(29:07):
either Bregman Keith Tucker for someone maybelike Guerrero. Definitely not Christian Walker,
because I know what you are thinking, like Christian Walker is good, but
what if he progresses like how abrain? You did well? He agress
regretses like what do you call it? But I'd rather get someone like young

(29:29):
like Guerrero. Pop that. Andalso with the pitching, I feel like
we need to get better relief pitchingand starting pitching is near at least one
or two maybe, And let Garciamccullors come back. All right, you
can address all those things here.Connection, okay, understandable during these times

(29:49):
so no blame to go around easilycould be on our end. Uh.
The first idea of trading, Iguess you're basically saying for a first basement
and using the presumed outgo Alex Bregmanif you don't plan on resigning him and
used him in trade. I'm notsure that either of the teams you're talking
about, the Arizona Diamondbacks or theToronto Blue Jays are interested in Alex Bregman

(30:11):
for that very reason you are tradinghim. They don't get anything because they're
not going to resign Alex Bregman either. So I really doubt those are that's
the type of deal that you couldwork out now going after either of those
two players probably a different story. The Vladimir Guerrero being moved discussion, I
think is going to get even biggerover the next three weeks up until the

(30:33):
deadline because of where Toronto is andlikely will remain. He's been exceptional probably
over the last six weeks. Idon't even think we mentioned it really.
The Astros caught a break when hemissed one of the games in the series
against Houston recently completed, and youkind of saw why with how well he's
hit. And the two players you'rementioning Walker and Guerrero, there are only
two other first basemen in baseball witha higher OPS than either one of them.

(30:59):
Every team that wants somebody, whetherit's a designated hitter spot, any
spot in the order, they're gonnabe going after these two. Bryce Harper
and Freddie Freeman are the only twoplayers with a higher OPS than Christian Walker's
eight forty five and Vladimir Guerrero's eightthirty, and both of them are basically
red hot, especially Walker when he'splaying the Dodgers, which was awesome to
watch over the last week and change. I think you're correct in targeting players

(31:23):
that make sense for Houston. Ithink it's gonna be virtually impossible for them
to land them. And there's aneight year age difference between Walker and Guerrero,
so you're right. The cost forWalker for that reason alone would be
a little different. The contractual situation, how much control you have for Guerrero
makes things interesting with the one moreyear remaining, But what do you do

(31:47):
with your trading for Guerrero for yetanother player Tucker Valdez, Bregman and Guerrero,
Whether it's this year or next year, will all be looking for enormous
money for a player that you mightnot give it to. It doesn't seem
like it makes long term sense, sounds fun in the in the in the
present. Well if that's what I'vealways never understood about. And I'm not

(32:10):
picking on the caller, but ifyou come in here and you want to
go get another guy that you're eithernot going to commit long term money to
or it's going to prohibit you fromcommitting long term to one of your own,
it just doesn't make sense. AndI get it, the here and
now and the win now and allthat. Eventually, though, you have

(32:30):
to start, like, you know, looking at the future and if you
don't want it to be you know, one hundred lost seasons again, you
have to make some difficult and inso doing, I think sometimes smart decisions
and so uh. And that's I'mnot even talking about not trading for guys
like that, Vlad Junior. I'mjust talking about your own situations. But

(32:51):
yeah, it's tempting and it's itfeels like I think part of the reason
is that Astros fans have seen theAstros make those big deals the deadline so
many times but that was four orfive years ago now, and who's the
best impactful offensive player. We seewhat you're talking about. The g's what
we know about. They've traded forVerlander twice. Offensive I don't know they

(33:15):
traded for Granky at least in seasonor else. I would include Garrett Cole,
but those were for key obvious. This kind of puts our pitching staff
on a different level. Already ina great spot, puts them on a
different level. You know, theplayers they've added offensively are usually phill a
gap here, phill a gap there, Trey Mancini. Let's throw away a
couple of prospects for Christian Vasquez.Let's add Trey Mancini, exactly like you

(33:37):
said. But you don't win thatWorld Series without him. Uh, well,
somebody would have been there. Idon't know if that person would have
fallen on the baseball quite as wellas traded. I'll tell you who.
Fazy cranked cold beverage in the cup, Holder and Clanton slamming the baseball teams
from the other coasts suck it AmericanLeague and National League and World serves broad

(34:00):
a team summer continues back to AdamClinton and Adam WEX learning fine sports Talk
seven ninety Hey Wex, what's thelast thing you heard? Not sure,
but good to go and great tobe with You wanted down our number one
of three on a Tuesday edition ofThe A Team. There will be trade

(34:21):
talks for the Astros. I thinkthe idea that they were going to be
sellers, and for much of thisyear I could understand why it was being
discussed, but I'm glad that theydidn't really buy into it. Day Dana
and probably Jim as well. We'rehopeful that the guys that they had on
this roster, this largely the samegroup that had put them into the end
of the postseason for the last sevenyears, would come around, and they

(34:43):
clearly have. They're not winning everygame anymore, they're not blowing through teams
anymore, closing out that road tripwith a series loss, but even in
the manner in which those games didnot go their way. That is a
shift that I hinted at earlier forthe Astros. Here as they get from
June into July night and day, absolute major shift in competition. Most of

(35:07):
the American League teams are kind ofin the race, and many of the
National League teams would say the same, and this is one of them,
the Marlins, that it's not inthe race. But when you look at
what is up for the Astros thismonth, especially after this Marlin series,
but noting they just finished up withMinnesota, who they're absolutely chasing, opened

(35:27):
the month with Toronto, who theyare helping to bury. They play Texas
to close out the front side ofthe pre All Star Break portion of their
schedule. They'll be through ninety sixgames, which means sixty six on the
other side of the festivities in Arlington, Seattle. They do get a nice
series with Oakland. Those are bothRoads series to open up the post All
Star Break portion. Then the Dodgerscome to Houston overrated the Pittsburgh Pirates,

(35:53):
who have probably surprised people with howcompetitive they are and will likely remain.
Tampa Bay is flip flopping with theAstros on a daily basis, and the
wild card race they're in it.You get a nice break because you're gonna
see the White Sox again. Nowyou need to make sure you don't even
lose a game to the White Sox. The first of your two series against

(36:16):
the Boston Red Sox. Snuck inthere with that road trip against Texas and
Tampa a second time. I mean, these are much better teams. Their
road trip of four games to Baltimorecomes as they get into the last handful
of you know, you're losing theopener because it's on Fox. Yeah,

(36:37):
they always do that. The gamesthat precede the start of football season.
Your series with the Philadelphia Phillies. How do you go four games at Baltimore
to three games at Philly. IfI told you the World Series matchup this
year was the Orioles and Phillies, you'd say, yeah, sounds about right.
And they've got seven consecutive games onthe road against those two teams as

(36:57):
August comes to a close. KansasCity after that in the race, the
Reds, who helped everybody out overthe last seven to ten days by embarrassing
the Yankees. They're not done. This is there's too many teams that believe
they are in it, that havethe talent to beat you on any given
night. And what I think theAstros did to get to this point is

(37:20):
awesome. They've earned it. They'vepitched well, they have hit well,
they have made a lot more littleplays than most, and they've done it
all without Kyle Tucker, who's stillnot likely if I were to say,
to play it all for the Astrosuntil after the All Star bar. No,
he's not playing until after the AllStar break. But he better get
his ass in the lineup after thatbecause they're gonna need him. I mean,
that's like gonna be an acquisition.Seriously, who's the best guy on

(37:44):
the shelf right now? Is thereanybody that's better than Kyle Tucker that's not
playing right now because of an injury? Well, there's one player that he's
on a team that doesn't matter.Mike Trout has been out for quite some
time. Yeah, so yeah, yeah, for a team that matters quick
scam. Probably not for the amountof I mean, Mookie Bets has obviously
missed a bunch of time because hegot hit by a pitch that would be

(38:07):
comparable. But they're also sitting infirst place by a decent march. You're
the Dodgers, You're stacked, youpay you, you spell like a billion
dollars this offseason, So I don'tcare that Mookie Bets is out for a
few games. For you, youshould be able to suffer that or whether
the storm they didn't go on ahot streak without him, but they're certainly
going to be able to maintain theirspot. I would believe the Astros,
on the other hand, they havethis is the best part of their season.

(38:29):
The offense has been really, reallygood for the majority of that time.
The hater portion of the season warin right now is full blown,
troublesome, full blown. This can'tcontinue full blown. These are the games
specifically why he's here now. Iknow he's pitching again in a lot of
non save situations, so he's notnecessarily pulling wins off of your ledger like

(38:53):
he did at the beginning of theyear with the home run he gave up
to David Schneider gave up the GrandSlam to Korea, which wasn't even in
a loss. He definitely pulled thatwin on Sunday. They weren't winning at
the time, they weren't losing. They weren't losing either. You got Spencer
Arraghetti to start a game that yougave up two runs there, Yeah,
he pitched, Well, you gottawin. Those like those are not necessarily

(39:15):
the expectations, and I do haveto give some They're playing a good team.
I think people think Minnesota sucks forthey don't. And if you look
at what these guys in there,I mean, it's not every day that
someone gets a hit and hit wonat bat and then the next one and
the next one, and the nextone, and the next one, and
the next one on, the nextone on the next one, and the
next one on the next one,and then his twelfth consecutive. That doesn't

(39:37):
happen every day. But then that'snot Korea, and that's not Byron Buckston,
who everybody knows. That's Jose Miranda, who is absolutely one of the
most dangerous hitters in the al especiallyagainst this team. Punchable face, punchable
face, you have a punishable face, well, for the most part,
it's more like, if you havea punishable face, do you have a
punishable face? Because he does. But no, you're right now. I'll

(39:58):
tell you though. The problem withthat is it Christian Vasquez does suck awful.
I mean really really Okay, Joshninety five million, I'm sorry,
once you sign that deal, youcan't do that. You just can't.
Ryan Presley, He's gone through thesame types of commentary. I don't think
I'm out of line for saying thatyou can't look Okay, you want to

(40:19):
give up a home run every singletime you pitch lately, just don't do
what the Christian Vasquez. How aboutthat? Yeah, three of his last
four games has a lot of homerun They've actually won two of those three.
But we kind of gave you thereasons why. He came into that
shutout against Toronto, gave up aninth inning homer that only meant your final
ledger was in set of three nothingit was three to one. Came in
as Luis Contreras was getting singled todeath in the ninth inning of the game

(40:44):
against Minnesota, a game he nevershould have gotten up for, never should
have come into. I'm not sayingit's a managerial I'm saying this situation should
have never happened. You can't spothis hand was forced. He had to.
He was the pitcher he should havegone to. He gave up a
four run homer to Korea, butyou were able to win by one when
he struck out the next matter. And then his ninth inning of the game

(41:05):
against Minnesota to close out the roadtrip included him throwing seven pitches he could
not put away. Christian Vasquez. It's just awful and he hit, went
over the fence and ended what wasa very successful, a very awesome you
know, the way that they playedthe Mets beat the Mets even through the
rain delay, really man handled theBlue Jays. And we're a runaway from

(41:29):
winning a series against the team they'rechasing, and it didn't happen. Well
in the four o'clock hour. Isgonna be a little bit more positive.
That's what's gonna happen, and thatis straight ahead. Here next on the
eighteen two lifelong Houston sports guys namedAdham Talking Your Teams, Adam Clinton and

(41:50):
Adam Wexler R. The A Team, A Team, Oh, our number
two here on Sports Talk seven nine. It is the A Team A Tuesday
edition of the program, and well, because of the unforeseen, our first
show not only this week together, but the first show together since a week
ago on this day, actually noteven that it was Monday. Is the

(42:13):
last time we did a show together. Oh, we did a show together
on Monday. I thought, oh, that's right, Monday, you did
the show and I didn't, andthen you left. It didn't come back
until about an hour ago. That'sright. That's much from the airport,
or no, from the rental placewe were attempting to. We did have
a little vacation last week to kickoff the month of July, our typical

(42:35):
annual away from the A team Julyfourth holiday vacation free agency going on the
middle of the baseball season's usually whenwe go. Made our way to sin
City, and we were very muchaware that we would be battling against when
we might be able to get back. Could we get on a flight sooner,
could we get on a flight later. It was difficult to do.

(42:59):
Clearly was not troubling. Considering wherewe were, it was very easy to
manage. Although the additional days stayswe're unexpected and all the costs and everything
that go with that. We alsohave not yet seen the any damage that
might have taken place where we are, although I'm told by those that live
there there's no damage. Hopefully thatis accurate, and don't believe we have

(43:19):
power. I wish that we're inaccurate, and I know many of you are
in that situation. But we're talkinga lot about the astros and everything else
that's going on here. Ten daysout from training camp beginning, Texans actually
officially announced what was reported yesterday thatJerry Hughes will be back with the team
a fifteenth NFL season, helping againthe guys that should take this team to

(43:42):
pretty lofty places and when it comesto chasing down quarterbacks who want to eighteen
game seasons and by weeks and havelong flowing locks and playing Cincinnati and others
this upcoming season. That's very goodnews and very excited that training camp is
on the horizon. Mentioned all thethings going on in Vegas preceding this show
and now moving forward through the twentysecond with NBA Summer League. Some summer

(44:04):
league games have already begun, thenon Vegas League Summer league games. The
Rockets don't participate in those. Overthe course of time that I was in
Vegas, because of all these events, there were a handful of pseudo celebrity
sidings on the athlete side. Isent you a picture of one of them,
a picture of my daughter with thebrother of Rockets guard Aaron Holliday.

(44:29):
That's strong. That's Drew Holliday's strongOlympian and two time champion, NBA Champion,
reigning champion walked by Drew in well, we'll just call it. One
of the Vegas hotels. The Nation, Bellagio, Caesars, all the same.
They are practicing, and they havehauled up in one of those hotels
over the next handful of days.I've got an exhibition for tomorrow. A

(44:52):
frequent guest during college football season onthe Matt Thomas Show ran into this person
yesterday, a day before today's Bigtwelve media Days began at Allegiant Stadium.
Were right outside one of the restaurantsslash sports books, which is essentially how
almost all the hotels have moved towards. You know, we talk about the

(45:15):
red sports book all the time atKushata, A great place to wager at
the kiosks, with your food, with your drink. It's kind of the
setup that's become more of the norm. Where it was just a bunch of
chairs, monitors and a big boardof wagers. They're almost all restaurants now.
Joel Clatt walked by college football analysts. I thought for sure you were

(45:35):
going to say doctor Roto. Nowdoctor Roto probably wouldn't recognize him on site,
but did recognize Joel Klatt on sitesaw one of the members of the
women's three on three Olympic basketball team, currently a TCU Hornfrog formerly an LSU
Tiger, formerly a Louisville cardinal,Hayley van Lyth was roaming around one of
the hotels and casinos. These arepseudo celebrities and just this morning, not

(46:00):
sure where he was going to,but obviously looking at more NBA talent.
One of the Rockets scouts was atthe front of our rental car shuttle bus.
Was he scouting members of Team USA? I don't think he was probably
scouting them, But with all theother teams and players and young people wherever

(46:20):
there yet they some of the teamsare and again, like I mentioned,
some of the other teams are playingtheir games in the other leagues in advance
of that. But it's time forthe teams to arrive and begin some of
their Vegas practices. Rockets first gameagainst the Lakers coming up on the twelfth,
Bronni's gonna get wrecked. Whitmore isgonna dunk on Bronnie and I Am
going to absolutely laugh my ass off. So the Rockets did. Finally,

(46:43):
most many of these names were reported, but they put out their actual roster
for this year's Summer League, andCam Whitmore is on it a men.
Thompson is not and I'm not surprisedby a men's exclusion, somewhat not surprised
that Cam Whitmore is on it,but he strikes me by the way again
I'll mentioned it last hour. Imeant Thompson and Jabari Smith Junior just wrapped

(47:05):
up three days practice against Lebron James, Steph Curry and the rest of the
US Olympic team, which is Ithink an immeasurable amount of assistance to those
two players to be in that atmosphereliterally playing five on five against them and
scrimmage's full length scrimmages Olympic style asthey did yesterday, although all you heard
about it was Cooper flag this andCooper flag that, which he earned and

(47:29):
looks like he will be awesome.Cam Whitmore strikes me as a player who
goes to Summer League this year andbusts it in practice, looks like an
All Star, and plays in onegame, probably maybe two. I don't
think they're they're gonna have him outthere seeing a ton of court time,
gonna win MVP of Summer League.I just don't think in his second year
that's probably what he's done. They'regonna put him to taken there to do

(47:51):
that. Aj Griffin, the playerthey acquired this offseason two years ago in
the lottery from the Hawks. Theytraded for him this year, he will
be there. Not sure if he'san on court guy either versus maybe a
practice player. He hasn't been inUdoka system yet and now he'll get this
opportunity. With Garrett Jackson running theteam, most of their back end of
the bench guys will be there.Nate Hinton, Nate Williams, Jermaine Samuels

(48:15):
junior Cougar, Fabian White junior who'splayed on a couple of summer league teams
over the last few years, andobviously Reed Shepherd, who Tuesday was introduced
to Houston. Okay, let's havean uncomfortable conversation because we're on the topic
of the NBA, and because wehave a few minutes left in the segment.
Kate Cunningham got his MAX deal today, And I mean, it's as

(48:37):
you and I were talking about itbefore the show, and you said it
it's not necessarily a surprise that ithappened. But as you also said before
the show, if you're Jalen Green'scamp and you see that the player before
you in the draft. All ofone cade and the two players after you
in the draft, as you werethe number two pick in that draft,

(48:58):
have all gotten not just a extensions, but rookie max extensions. We talked
vehemently about Scottie Barnes. You're goingto think you deserve that based on that
alone, and you know what, your camp's gonna be well within its right
to say that, and it hasnothing to do with the fact that you

(49:19):
probably shouldn't get a max deal basedon your play on your team. So
Cunningham the number one pick, he'sgot his deal done, Barnes the number
four pick, deal done, FranzWagner of the Magic got his deal done.
And it's all relatively the same. They're all in this draft. They're
all near the top of the draft. How many wins did the Pistons have
last year again with Caid in thelineup, None, exactly. Cad Cunningham

(49:43):
will be playing for his third NBAcoach Jalen's only on two and second GM
Yeah, third, oh, third, My bad. No, I think
we was there when he. Ithink Weaver did draft and so it would
be second tray and Langdon is nowthree. So the apples to apples.
Portion is the absolute obvious part, the simple part. These are the players

(50:07):
that came in with me. Thereare lottery picks, their top lottery picks.
They've been leaned on by their teamsto be that Barnes, Cunningham and
Wagner. What's the difference. I'mjust like that. There is no difference
except for the fact that his teamand Orlando now is they're not awful.
Cunningham seems awful. Scotty Barnes team, even with the excitement for some reason

(50:30):
about he and quickly being locked upthere long term, there's there shouldn't be
any excitement there. Give the Orlando'snot awful because the next year they drafted
Paolo Bancaro, right. Wagner justgot his extension. He's definitely not their
best player, but he's definitely theirseconds. He's contributing positive and Jalen Green
is an uncertain number player on theRockets. He's probably probably not their best

(50:52):
player. And I'm really only talkingabout the future. It doesn't matter.
I'm not speaking badly of Fred vanVliet, but it isn't where he ranks
because he's probably not going to behere long term. As a huge part
of whenever they do win big, unless it's this year. He's a super
expensive assistant coach who happens to beable to be effective still on the floor,
very good two different areas, Yes, and I think he'll be very

(51:13):
very good this year. That nextyear is at the team's option for well
over forty million. I just can'timagine that, you know, do they
work out a different way for himto stay maybe, or do they trade
for Devin Booker and he's not needed. But if Jalen Green is still here
and Reed Shepherd is playing and AmnThompson is playing, there is no contract
you could give to Fred van Vliet. I don't think that would make much

(51:36):
sense. But that simplest, mostobvious part of the negotiations. It is
in place. The teams are indifferent situations. The future of the teams
are in different situations. The Magicaren't wondering who their other possible number one
players are. Neither are the Pistons, but the Rockets are. Jalen Green
could be the fourth best player onthe Rockets right now this upcoming season,

(51:59):
maybe maybe lower. That's not evenlight and I'm not really trying to say
it as some negative about Jalen exactly, but there are parts of his game
that you want to see a lotmore consistency with and basically it's how he
finished his season if you recall theway we you know, he got a
chance, of course to talk toEmo Udokan rafel Stone as a here's our

(52:19):
postseason availability. We've talked to themboth since then, obviously Tuesday with Reed,
but you know, Emai almost kindof joked about how awesome Jalen was
at the end of the year.A question about what you think of the
way he finished the year, He'slike, well, I just got to
figure out how to get him tostart it sooner because he was great,
and he has been great late inseasons before, and yes, to coincided
with the absence of their only paintpresence in Alpera and Shngun. So the

(52:44):
fit and the money you want tospend it. That's a second player from
the twenty twenty one draft. Hewas the sixteenth pick that the Rockets have
to consider all this. That's whereit's really truly different. They have to
consider long term extensions with two playersfrom this draft. None of those other
teams do. They have to considerlong term extensions a year later with two
players Jabari Smith Natari Easton, andthen a year after that they're considering almost

(53:07):
assuredly, giving long term extensions toboth of the men, Thompson and cam
witmore. So, that's where it'snot apples to apples, it's basketballs to
softballs. Yes, bowling balls.Do they get put in there anywhere?
Well, there is one thing aboutthis situation that I do want to carry
over into the next segment. Butwe're also going to give away free concert

(53:27):
tickets and we're pretty sure this onewon't be canceled. Yeah, I said
it, but this is a differentshow tat Toyota Center. We will need
you to have been listening though, that's the key, and we'll find out
what that's about when we come back. But first I want to tell you
guys about QC kinetics. We wantto tell you guys about joint pain.
I can't imagine doing and dealing withsome of the things that have happened over
the past twenty four to forty eighthours with joint pain on top of it.

(53:52):
It's just no way to live.In fact, you're not living your
best life if you are dealing withjoint pain, your kneeshit, your hips,
your shoulders, your back, ifyou are having any sort of pain
of any kind, even if it'sbeen a few weeks, but god forbid,
if it's been years. You wantto get that taken care of,
and you want to do it withoutsurgery or downtime or harmful addictive pain medications.

(54:14):
You want to go to one place, in one place only wexh that
would be QC kinetics cutting edge treatments. How about accelerating your own body's healing
properties, revitalizing those joints that acwas talking about so you can move again.
All through the work of the peopleat QC Kinetics. They're working with
regenerative medicine, regenerative restorative cellular treatmentsfor your achy joints at QC Kinetics seven

(54:37):
one three, nine one three fiftytwo eighty five. It is the future
of medicine. The best news isthe future is now with QC Kinetics and
the way they are making sure youcan get rid of that chronic joint pain.
They've helt so many people right here, many of our listeners, tens
of thousands more around the country.Their locations here in Houston, Sugarland the
woodlands, the heights, and theCypress location. And you can call QC

(55:00):
Kinetics today for a free consultation sevenone three, nine one, three fifty
two eighty five for QC Kinetics.Back to Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler the
eighty Jalen and Alprin not in thesame draft, correct, No, they're
both twenty twenty one first round picks. Alpi went sixteen. I literally can

(55:22):
never remember if that's the case ornot. It just this what happens.
We have so many draft picks threethree last three years, not including this
year, two first rounders on theteam each time, Green and Alpi,
Jabari and Tari Cam And I'm inBingo and I know Cam and am In
and I know Tari, and uh, who'd you just say? Now,

(55:42):
I'm getting mixed up. They couldnot be any closes, right, Jabars,
That's right? Because they always rymeGreen and Alprin. I always feel
like one came after the other forsome reason. And that's why I bring
this up. If you were totell me that shing Gun got an extension,
I don't think a lot of Rocketsfans would be like, yeah,
I have a problem with that.I don't think they would the same way.

(56:06):
I think those same very fans wouldprobably have it. They would at
least pause if you gave Jalen Greenthat kind of extension. Well, the
other thing that we didn't bring thisup yet because it's the part of it
that makes the comparison basketballs and softballs, and it's what happened this offseason with
a GM that there's not a GMin the league that Rafell knows better than

(56:29):
the one that's running things in Philadelphia, Darryl Morey Tyres Maxi's getting a big,
fat, well earned extension after hisfourth year. Now, he wasn't
a lottery pick, but he's oneof the two or three best players from
his draft, and after year three, the majority of which was played without

(56:51):
James Harden, it was pretty clearthis guy's special got up to twenty points
per game, wasn't even a fulltime starter. Again, more of the
lean on him after Embiid began thatyear with the move I just talked about,
and then last year he was unbelievableand he was great in the clutch.
He gave them an absolute one twopunch. But the timing of when

(57:12):
they gave him his extension could haveeasily come after year three. He'd played
well enough to have earned that right, no question about it, and other
teams at other situations, at otherspots in the standings with other gms might
have done so, but in orderfor them to have orchestrated the moves they've
now made as they continued to playStar Search, which is the number one

(57:35):
game in the history of Darryl Moray. Nobody loves playing Star Search like Darryl
Moury, and he landed another Starlater in his career, clearly because of
the timing of all this, becauseof how the cap works, and even
though there are some new wrinkles init with the aprons and caps hard and
otherwise two of them that everyone's workingwith by not having him already under an

(57:59):
in to and ready for and eatingup your cap with his extension, the
timing of how you're able to putthese deals together and still satisfy those players
with money earned, and in Maxi'scase, he absolutely earned it. One
of the best players in the backcourtin this league. You're still able to
find a way to make Paul Georgedeal happen and give him. Look at

(58:22):
how much money they were able togive him, And I know Pe Paul
was on his podcast talking about allthis personally that he was felt disrespected,
the most popular way for awesome playersto talk about deals that didn't happen.
Felt disrespected by the Clippers on atwo year, sixty million dollar deal ended
up getting them all the way upto Kawi's deal three years, one hundred

(58:45):
and fifty. He got an additionalninety million out of him in an offer,
got an additional season out of him, but without the no trade clause
or that he wanted, he wouldn'ttake it, and then they wouldn't give
him the four years full which thesesixers ended up giving to him because he
wanted to. If you're not gonnado that, fine, give you the
full max and then you can takeit out. And he had said for

(59:07):
years I'll take the same deal Kawhihas, but because of the way they
disrespected him, even when they, according to him, did get up to
that level, he ended up nottaking it. But all those things I'm
saying are just about the timing ofall the rockets flexibility. They can just
move forward with cap holds on bothof these players at a much more manageable

(59:28):
number rather than extend them. Nowwith just that alone, there's uncertainty about
their respective basketball futures. Is I'llbe a Number one center? Is he
a guy you can build an offensearound. Is he all those things?
Same thing with Jalen? Is hefor sure a cornerstone franchise caliber one or

(59:50):
two? That question is clearly stillout there. I don't think there's any
good reason other than feel good tomake that happen. It is a little
dangerous from a personal standpoint. Imean, how does a player who feels
like he might have earned it andwatches other players around him get it when
they've done nothing either from a teamstandpoint, and his numbers actually weren't that

(01:00:14):
different from Wagner's this year, althoughthe numbers have gone up yearly for Franz
and it's been different for Jalen, but so has the team they were.
Finally, he played on a goodteam. I'm not that disappointed that his
personal numbers didn't go up when hiswin total and his contributions to those,
especially in the season when they nearlyfought their way into the top ten in

(01:00:35):
the West, that was a bigpart of it. The timing suggests you're
probably better off giving it to neitherof them this offseason, and at the
end of all of this discussion,I still don't know how I feel about
the sixers. And it's very, very potentially awesome, but two thirds of
that Big three have to be healthy, and they've never been healthy. They

(01:00:59):
just haven't. George is coming offan awesome season for what he is now,
what he the player, he isnow, still a two way player.
Don't want to run everything through him, don't want to wear him down.
Had his best shooting season across theboard, best from inside the three,
outside the three. He focused moreon his own offense rather than running
his team. And this is goingto be the first time in his NBA

(01:01:21):
career, first time he is theclear third option, an awesome third option,
a clutch player third option, anexperienced postseason third option. But he's
never been that before. He wasnever the third option with Harden and Kawhi's
never the third option obviously in OKCor Indiana, and now he is.

(01:01:43):
But the skills he's continued to cultivate, the shooting skills are a brilliant fit
to me in Philadelphia, better fitthere than in Golden State, who also
wanted him no question, Absolutely totally, because that I didn't like that fit
at all. That's just them tryingto, oh my god, can we
please try one more time? Andthey're so far out. He's not pushing

(01:02:07):
them over the top. I lovethat Clay's thinking that Dallas is going to
be better with him. Don't sayit. Dallas did good things this offseason
in my opinion, Okay, notjust him. They lost because the other
players were not consistently scoring with openlooks this postseason. PJ. Washington a

(01:02:29):
nice little run from the corner ina few of their series, and that
was pretty much. That's the onlything I would say Clay could do.
It's a big thing. Thompson,Quinton Grimes, Naji Marshall are all really
good fits to play from my opinion. With those two guards, and hopefully
still getting enough from Gafford and Washingtonfrom a we're getting kind of small as
a basketball team, which will maketheir second round exit all the more delicious.

(01:02:52):
All over again. All right,we will take a quick time out.
We'll come right back. We'll getto our signature segment. We've put
should back a little bit. It'ssay what, and we'll get to it
when we return, I can tellyou about my friend's over at Classic Elite
Chevy sugar Land. Also of noteclassic Elite Chevy Highway six and even classically
Buick GMC. Of notes classically BuickGMC closed today for everybody understands why Classical

(01:03:19):
Elite Chevy sugar Land and Classical EliteChevy Highway six open for you today and
presumably and hopefully as everybody pushes throughthis condition we're in from the hurricane and
tropical storm ramifications. But you knowthey're always Therefore, you appreciate you being

it might be. Myself included lookingat them consistently whenever it's time for us

(01:03:43):
to go find that brand new vehicle. That is where we turn. You
could do the very same thing withthem during their summer sales event, their
rev Summer Sales Event sixteen to fiveoff twenty twenty three Silverado LTS eight thousand
dollars off twenty twenty three Tahoes andSuburbans, great lease options on twenty twenty
four customs, Silverado's Blazer EVS LTSagain both twenty twenty four models. As

(01:04:09):
they say, together, let's DriveGM Dealer of the Year for many,
many, many reasons, now thirteenyears in a row. And among those
reasons, a fantastic ownership duo Jeffand Tiffany Sebastian. Great working with them,
Great for all the people here andour iHeartRadio family that do that and
you can do the same. ClassicallyChevy Sugarland, classically Chevy Highway six and

(01:04:30):
as well classic elite Buick GMC Houston. It's your home team, man,
lifelong Asters fan here anytime anywhere.I love your whole team. We go
to Rockular go just tell your smartdevice splice sports Talk seven ninety on iHeart
Radio playing Sports Talk seven ninety oniHeartRadio. That's right. Say what here
our signature segment. Every single Tuesdayat four thirty seven, we give you

(01:04:55):
our say what Tuesday signature segment. We usually do it four fifteen. But
this is a very very special editionof the A team here today on a
Tuesday, following some of what tookplace over Sunday to Monday morning and what
will continue to take place for many, many, many days. It sounds
like with the restoration of power andcell service, et cetera, and damage

(01:05:17):
fixed and otherwise we're in the sameboat with you and totally understand where everybody
is coming from. A few itemsthat made a little less sense over the
last handful of days usually finds itsway to say, what, I'll go
second when I take us out tothe ballpark, but you go first and
take us to the grid. Okay, here's the deal. What was completely

(01:05:41):
shattered last season when CJ. Stroud, Ohio State quarterback, just took the
lead by story. Yeah, Ithink you said it in your statement.
I mean, I'm just I'm sorry, man, the texts are really blowing
it here. No quarterback from OhioState has proven it that phrase uttered.
So yeah, because none of theother guys that have nothing to do with
CJ. Stroud other than the coloruniform they wore, basically because none of

(01:06:05):
them even played for the same coachin the same system, obviously in the
same era as CJ did. Soyeah, it's total nonsense. So I
State quarterbacks can play in the NFL, I believe according to how CJ played
last year. Yes, just askJoe Burrow. Oh, Joe Burrow,
another one of Ohio State's finest. That's the thing, is he or is

(01:06:29):
he just a guy who threw agrand total of thirty nine passes in three
years form the a lot of worksbefore he went to LSU. Started his
first game in college, went twentyfive and three, set numerous passing records
into including a two to two evenpasser rating in his red shirt senior year.
I mean, we all know whathe did at LSU. There are

(01:06:54):
Ohio State fans that apparently think theycan claim him. That's the say what
of this? The uh not sofast, Lee Corso portion of this.
That's where the audio comes in becauseJoe burrow On, pardon my take,
set the record straight. I didn'tplay football there. I mean I practiced
football there did a lot of practice. I did a lot of practicing and

(01:07:16):
lifting. You graduated, I graduated. I usually tell people that I went
to school at Ohio State and Iplayed football at I like that. I
got a lot better from practicing atOhio State, but I didn't get to
play, so I don't really saythat I played. I got to live
the backup quarterback lifestyle back then, and that was fun. Got that out

(01:07:42):
of my system and then I wasable to walk in. Yeah. Yeah,
starting is a lot more fun.I was a lot more fun.
I would love to be back upthough I would seems like, I mean,
it was pretty fun for now.I think even our friendly host there
pardon my take, caught on towhat I thought I heard him saying and
pausing through the backup last style lifestyle. It was absolutely bringing the Kelly Stafford

(01:08:03):
conversation into the conversation, which Ithink they picked up on. But a
red shirt ear they picked up onwhat he was putting down. Yeah,
oh yeah, and two years asa backup to J. T. Barrett
Dwayne Haskins going through Ohio State duringthat time, isn't that the first thing
you do? Also in a situationwhich is admittedly rare, much like it

(01:08:27):
was it, say Michigan when TomBrady was playing, you look at who
the guys that were supposedly better thanhim on the roster were and at that
time in their lives and their physicaldevelopment. Literally that could be the case.
I mean, tom Brady's combine videois famous. It's not just defamous,
but he was competing with quarterbacks whodid play at the next level,

(01:08:51):
one of whom was a first roundpick to play at the next level.
And when he went to LSU andplayed his first gear year. Nobody,
nobody, nobody thought Joe Burrow wasgoing to LSU and would become the top
pick in the draft after his firstyear, after he finally played, as

(01:09:14):
he said, college football. Hestarted every game for LSU his first year
at LSU, and he was astarting quarterback in the SEC. I don't
know much more you would say abouthis first year there. He had sixteen
touchdown passes in thirteen games. That'snot really anything to write home about.
And then he had sixty touchdown passesin his next fifteen games, which encompassed

(01:09:35):
his fifteen to zero national championship, one of the best single season quarterback performances
in the history of this fine collegegame. Hence the cigar, hence the
swag of Joe Burrow is elite andstill there. Yes, so he's actually
saying something there that probably, firstof all, this is why college football

(01:09:58):
is awesome, because it absolutely rufflessomebody's feathers. And yet it's so simple.
He's totally right. It's a perfectway to describe it. He literally
went to school at Ohio State. He practiced at Ohios He barely saw the
field. He was a zero whenit came to explain Joe Burrow's Ohio State
football career. Yeah, he wasa zero. He didn't play, he

(01:10:19):
didn't matter. And that's not aninsult, it's just a fact. Explain
it. Joe Burrow's LSU football career, greatest quarterback that university has ever seen,
greatest single season, and maybe anybodyat any university he's ever seen.
And he parlayed that into being thenumber one pick and the guy most have
picked to unsee Pat Mahomes. Ifanybody in the AFC was going to do

(01:10:40):
it, which he did one time, Well there's another Ohio State quarterback that
has something to say about that.Wait a minute, who who's that?
Where's he play? Wait? Youmean this guy? Yeah? I can't
wait for that to happen. CJ. Stroud and Joe Burrow gonna be
linked together as the only two Ohio'sacts to beat Pat Mahomes in the af
playoffs that's coming this year. Iman, could you have This city's gonna

(01:11:03):
lose its mind if that happens. So what you're saying is, at some
point during one of the probably threeor four, maybe five non post game
availabilities that CJ. Stroud has duringthis upcoming training camp. I should take
my time yelling over the other mediamembers to get my very important question in
just don't Choke? Do you thinkyou or Joe Burrow is the best Ohio

(01:11:26):
state quarterback in the nf I willpay you to do that. Maybe I'll
just do it. That's that's strong. I like that a lot. All
right, we will have something elsethat will cause you to say that phrase.
Say what might cause you to sayit? It might, I'm hopeful.
I don't know how you're going toreact to it. That's why we'll
bring it back on the other side. I'll take you out to the ballyard

(01:11:48):
when we come back here on theeighteen. Adam and Adam take Houston sports
very seriously. It's everything else inlife that they take lightly. I'm a
bad father and their wives love themfor it. All he cares about is
many back up to the team onSports Talk seven nineteen eight team winding down

(01:12:13):
the four o'clock hour, I feellike I haven't done a show with you
in over a week. With that, WEX and AC with you back in
studio. We know some of youwho are well able to listen to us
going through it after the storm We'reright there with you. Wex hasn't even
been to his house yet because he'sbeen on vacation and then a hurricane happened.
Afraid of what I'm gonna see.I don't know, are you.

(01:12:34):
I thought about this. I wascleaning off my back patio today and I
was like, would Wex be doingthis? Wex hates doing yard work.
I actually thought this in my brain. Uh yeah, I kind of do.
I mean, we do have alawnmower. I don't own one of
those. I'm gonna use that ina while, get on the roof from

(01:12:55):
time to time. Some light maintenance, some gutter cleaning, et cetera.
Okay, we don't like any ofit. I mean, the heat usually
says no, thank you. Ijust don't like, certainly not to plant
any flowers or anything making the bedslook good. I can tell you that
I worked on my base before Igo to Mexico next week. Oh,
I mentioned that I'm gonna leave again. Yeah, that should be something,

(01:13:15):
hopefully, Uh, I don't think. Yeah. I mean I could have
sent you way way more picks.I thought you would, but you know,
I was just trying to get intoenjoying the time there. The extended
time there was, Yes, raninto the timing of when our arrival back
in Houston coincided with the arrival ofthat nasty storm, so we were not
able to get anywhere near Houston untilearlier. Today we're able to fly into

(01:13:41):
our state's capital and then drive ourway into Houston. Did you keep it
weird while you were there? Alwayskeep it weird, Always keep it weird.
Getting those horns up, enjoying everythingthat the upcoming college football season has
in store for US. Media daysgoing on all across the country. Big
twelve this week, SEC next week. You h has made their way to
Big twelve media Days in Vegas, not so coincidentally. Yeah, it was

(01:14:04):
a good time out there. Butnow we're back to business here. Okay,
tell us the thing about the thingbaseball. So yeah, if you
were unaware, the Astros have morethan one capable starting pitcher unavailable to them
due to injury. Yes, morelike five or six or whatever. Time.
I'll give you the good news first, as expected, with the Astros

(01:14:27):
keeping a TBD slot open in theupcoming rotation for their series that begins tonight
against the Marlins, it will almostassuredly be taken by Jake bloss I threw
fifty five pitches over the weekend withSpace Cowboys, and all indications are after
his session today they're hoping and planningtentatively probably an erasable pencil writing him in

(01:14:49):
for Thursday's start, which will bevery good. I think the Astros they
basically stood inside the fire, justplaying with fire. They were lighting themselves
on fire, going with two bullpengames during a ten day road trip with
no off days, and they managedto make their way through it without really

(01:15:11):
either of those two games, destroyingarms, seasons, days, games,
whatever they heck they want. SeanDubin starts, Astros are undefeated this year.
Two starts, two wins. Helpswhen you put thirteen runs on the
board in one of them. Theymanaged to make it through and it was
just a matter of time and theoff day helps and Blosses return clearly puts
him at the front of the lineof you know, arms that they would

(01:15:33):
want to turn to, and hopefullyhe's able to give them a little bit
longer outing and show a little bitmore of what he can do and maybe
even stay there as they wait forI'm not sure. Luis s Garcia also
through in the last couple of days, not super successfully from a result standpoint,
but at this point it's only aboutbuilding up arm strength and making sure

(01:15:55):
that there are no setbacks and theydon't have to slow things down for him,
which which is what they are doingwith Lance mccullor's junior shut down.
Arm wasn't responding well after in betweenhis bullpen sessions. Joe spot has said
today to the media over at aminute Made Park, They'll keep him from
throwing for the next couple of daysand try to figure out what is the

(01:16:17):
plan moving forward, a plan theydo not know. The answer to it
is July ninth, and a possibleAugust return was what was preliminarily on the
table, and August is the secondto last month of this baseball season.
I would be fully speculating on it, but obviously timing plays a part.
Hopefully Lance will be able to addressthis in the coming days because he usually

(01:16:42):
does, especially when it's been unfortunatenews and he's seen far too much of
that. But they're pulling back onwhat he's doing and he will not be
throwing because he hasn't been bouncing backvery well. Justin Verlander is throwing is
throwing more often, but he's stillnot yet throwing off the mound. Did
he have a catch? He didhave a catch, but not throwing off

(01:17:05):
the mound means you're not even closeto getting on a mound in a game,
rehab game for him, most assuredly, we're going to be pushing past
the All Star break into the fiftysome odd games left of the season portion
of the year, and at thatpoint in time maybe there is a return

(01:17:25):
in store. I think they've gotanother two to three weeks worth of games
without him. At a bare minimum, this is from a neck, a
stiff neck. And again, asthe Astros for the most part, have
done through multiple general managers, usuallyit's left up to the players to divulge
whatever it is, and Justin usuallyis pretty good about that. So of

(01:17:46):
most of the pitchers. If youtalk to them individually, sometimes they'll refer
to the staff. Sometimes they'll saythat there's a little bit uncertainty here.
I'd rather not get into it,but they don't provide any additional information or
the people that would know the answerto it availability via interviews talking about the
athletic and performance training staff. Sohis situation from a neck. We don't

(01:18:09):
really know what the future holds basedand he did speak about it today but
did not discuss anything about what itis that's keeping him from basically making real
progress. Playing catch more than everyother day recently, but very cautious about
building up and not wanting anything whateveranything might be to flare up. And

(01:18:30):
that was obviously playing catch. Iwasn't happy. So the return of some
of these pitchers who clearly could reshapewhat their staff looks like, it could
help them down the stretch and couldbe our very first caller of the day
today suggested the need to go outand get starting pitching. Well, the
longer these guys aren't here, andthe longer you have not gone to get
anybody, the longer you're begging theonly five capable starters, which includes Jake

(01:18:58):
Bloss and Spencer Arraghetti of holding ittogether well. And then there was the
little antidote that rival gms seem tothink that the Rangers are going to be
sellers at the deadline. And amongthose names is a guy that a lot
of people wanted the Astros to goget, Michael Lorenzen. Yeah, the
Rangers are in a weird situation. They are the defending World Series champions.

(01:19:20):
They were the only team in baseballthat won the World Series last year.
All the teams that tried, theywere the only one that could do it.
I can't believe that the Astros letthem win the way they did.
As we head into the Rangers haveplayed ninety one games. The Astros have
played ninety final handful of games beforethe break, and the Astros and Rangers

(01:19:42):
will see one another before we getto the break. Here's where the Rangers
sit in the landscape of the AmericanLeague. Because they have fallen on hard
times, They've fallen back well backof the Astros. There are four teams
in the league, the American Leaguethat are worse than them, only four

(01:20:02):
teams. Like what we've been talkingabout the Astros much of the season.
Aren't they going to be sellers? You brought up Lorenzo their closer, deservedly
headed to the All Star Game, someone they signed in the offseason. He
would be a huge addition for anotherteam that needs one. Is Max Schurs

(01:20:23):
are gonna get moved again even withhis no trade clause if they want to
retool again for next year with SeegerSimeon, they could move a Doolas Garcia
and hope that Josh Young is readyto become their third day should move Adolas
Garcia. His trade value has neverbeen higher, and he sucks right now.
They really have a probably a fouror five, maybe even six player

(01:20:45):
list of guys that they could move. Give up on this year, clearly,
but set themselves up in a reasonablygood spot for next year. Reasonably
good spot for next year to dowhat now, win the World Series,
to compete to get to the playoffs. Because I think it's this point it's
hard to say where the Astros willbe because they have so many decisions to
make. It's pretty seemingly pretty easyto say where the Mariners are gonna be.

(01:21:08):
Bury me right there, and thenit's top of the division, right.
I mean they're not They're clearly notawesome, but with that much pitching,
likely most of it will be therenext year. Well, if the
Mariners went and got a Doulas Garcia, boy, you just talking about the
cross pollinations so spiteful of the Astros. They're like, well, we don't
care if we trade any guys chillsthe Astros. Let's go get him,

(01:21:29):
combine him with our pitching. We'regonna win it all or at least come
to the come out of the alall right, Our number three is coming
up next. Our Football at fiveconversation is coming up next. I'm gonna
try and squeeze something in, butif I don't get it into the football
at five segment, I will definitelyget it in before the end of the
show. It has to do withthe new EA Sports College Football game and

(01:21:50):
Orienthal Two lifelong Houston sports guys namedat him talking your team, Adam Clinton
and Adam Wexler, are the eighteenA. You're right if bussal football five

(01:22:13):
o'clock some five o'clock football Professional footballin America is a special game football five
here on a post Monday edition. That's Tuesday here of the eighteen I think

(01:22:33):
most of you who have access topower and access to pictures or have been
viewers of some of the coverage ofthe hurricane that's been through our city and
many others and still bringing some weatherand damages elsewhere, noticed that one of
the facilities here that houses a majorleague pro sports team did not escape like

(01:22:57):
many of your homes. The roofof NRG Stadium was damaged at least as
pictures show, and three different spotsof fairly significant portions of the panels at
NRG Stadium were torn off. Arenot there anymore, are not in place
as it happened since Rita And ifI'm not mistaken, on the second of
this month, and I'm not surefor how long a period of time was

(01:23:20):
on my way to the airport whichtakes us right down six' ten towards
two eighty eight, and the roofwas open, which is rare soccer game.
I don't know that it was foran event. They did play a
game in the coming day, soI don't know what it was for preparations
for the event. The surface thatthey were playing on, although it was

(01:23:40):
closed that night, I remember becauseI watched it right but well it was
on, I wasn't really watching it. I did not have a chance to
ask why. But it also tome, it just indicates, okay,
it does work. By the way, what was that event? The game
with the guy from Miami me nowso good, you know exactly. I'm
not as much as about it asI did. I was watching its extremely

(01:24:01):
exciting on everybody on the edge oftheir seats all the way through. I
was watching it at the home ofsomeone who has a vested interest in this
type of thing, and it wasvery much prominent. But I could not
have cared less. But they werelike, yeah, this is it,
NRG, I go what. Ihad no clue. Right. A couple
of nights later there was a gameat Allegiance and there were brazil fans all.

(01:24:24):
If you're not familiar, Allegiance Stadiumis right on the other side of
the highway that lines the back thatyou told me that one did not end
up taking a tour, but woulddefinitely been there. It's nice. So
if you were going to the gamethat evening, you were probably all up
and down the strip and they were. They were everywhere, and this whole
week of concac half games speaking offootball, if not, there were fans

(01:24:45):
locked in like if there there werepeople at I can't remember what we were
doing. We're somewhere to see thisor went to this event whatever it was,
and there were people just waiting inline. All they're all watching games
on their phones. If you hearda cheer from a CA Destino, normally
that means it's at the craps table. It's everybody's wonder the table something like

(01:25:05):
that. All the screams were forwhat they were watching on either at the
sports book or at the food hall, whatever it was. There were so
many matches that people were invested in, but the impact from damages, you
know, Minute made Park undamaged. They've got a game tonight Constellation Field no
power. Their game tonight has beencanceled, postponed. And the timing of

(01:25:26):
this roof issue at NRG Stadium,I mean, the Texans do have two
home preseason games they're during the lasttwo weeks of their home schedule doesn't begin
until after the opening week and whenthey beat Anthony Richardson and the Indianapolis Colts.
There are also other events planned atNRG Stadium. This a little thing
called the Circus. It's coming totown later this month. I thought that

(01:25:50):
went away. No Ringling Bros. And Barnum. I thought they went away.
I don't I thought Peter finally defeatedthem. I wasn't aware no concert
there later this month also, soit's playing Zachary Bryant. I believe,
Oh, that's gonna be a soldout show. I would think so.
Man, they lacked that country musicover there. No, I saw one

(01:26:12):
of his shows. I think hejust played actually whatever they're calling Arrowhead these
days, there's like four letters involved, and not those four letters, but
yeah, you know the gh HCsomething or other whatever they call it's like
at Arrowhead Stadium, and he playedthat and it was sold out obviously.
But I was talking and I'm like, this is it NRG really because they

(01:26:34):
did such a good job with theit's not bunting. What are they call
it on the sidelines? It's football. It's bunting in baseball stadiums. What's
it called when you do like youcompletely maybe the ribbons, the digital I'm
talking about the sideline panels, likethe actual cloth of whatever they are,

(01:26:55):
all of that. Until they dida wide shot where I could see the
roof, you had no idea thatit's where the Texans played football. Like
no, it just looked like abig I thought they were in Europe.
I had no idea. So anyways, so on the field was there an
item? Yes? Are you readyfor this? I'm ready. It's not
technically on the field unless you countit as a digital field. So we've

(01:27:17):
talked, I mean, probably morethan I ever thought we would about the
new EA Sports College football twenty fivegame, and there was a survey that
was conducted by Action Network. Idon't know if you're I mean, how
do you feel about their surveys?I mean this is Are they reputable?

(01:27:38):
I think so from a survey perspective. Sure, this is my favorite because
I'm not forcing Oj Simpson onto theshow. It's newsworthy and not because he
just died. A comprehensive survey ofover two thousand American college football enthusiasts.
So, in other words, thesame amount of people who are determined our

(01:28:00):
ratings in this city of three millionplus people, they they were They conducted
this survey to gauge fan expectations, and the results reveal insights into the legends
that fans hope to see in thegame, opinions on athlete compensation, and
the impact of nil rules on collegesports. Here's where it gets good.

(01:28:25):
Two thousand people surveyed, not huge, but a decent sample size. One
in five want Oj in the game, one in five nineteen percent, And
they have a list, right,bo Jackson leads the pack. He got
forty one percent of the vote inthis what's the actual question? They want

(01:28:46):
him featured in the game. Alegends, correct feature. There's there's a
legends, you know, roster thatyou can choose from to play with,
and they want him. Bo Jacksonmost wanted by forty percent of these college
for fotball fans. Barry Sanders camein second at thirty eight percent. Reggie
Bush was thirty six. Tim Tebowwas thirty five college football legend. That's

(01:29:11):
fine. Yes, he's at theHeisman House, It's okay, yeah,
ahead of Joe Burrow. Thirty twois his We just got through. Joe
Burrow's dominance as a college football legendwas five months long. Okay, but
you want Tim Tebow ahead of JoeBurrow, Herschel Walker, Lamar Jackson,
Cam Newton, Vince Young, RickyWilliams, oh, Johnny Manziel, Archie

(01:29:38):
Griffin, Marcus Mariota, and MattLinert, who they didn't even spell his
name right coming up bringing up therear at ten percent. I guess those
ballroom classes didn't pay off as muchafter all. Matt liner it's a TikToker.
Of course. You know that hiswife is she's hot, right,
she's Josie is. I don't knowher name's jo If I were to guess

(01:30:01):
he's definitely more than a foot tallerthan she is, but probably even more
than that. Like she's really petite. She's four eleven. It's very possible
he's not that tall. No,he's like six four, just typical NFL
sized quarterback blumber six' four,I believe. But yeah, OJ Simpson
nineteen, like all those names Irattled off, like you remember their college

(01:30:26):
career, mainly because it didn't takeplace in nineteen sixty eight, but USC
OJ Simpson is like up there, sure it is? Is he? Where
did Marcus Allen come in? AskNicole, Oh, hey, you can't
OJ Simpson or Reggie Bush USC runningback number one or two? Like where

(01:30:48):
do you rank them? Because Iknow it's very different eras and all that
kind of stuff, But it was, like, I mean, it's if
you go back and watch part oneof that documentary, there's showing footage of
him at USC and it's like aman among among boys, and you can't
say that Reggie's Heisman season wasn't thesame. That's what it was that I

(01:31:12):
would agree. I'm not saying hewas the best player in college football,
but as a runner, as theback, as at all purpose back,
just like OJ during his era.I mean, this also is a university
with Charles White, Mark Still andReggie, so they just are running back.
You. These guys were the bestof the best, and OJ absolutely
was that. I mean, whowas better? I mean there was more
to Reggie's game, I guess, but Reggie could have not been on SC

(01:31:40):
and they probably still would have goneundefeated until they played the Horns. I
don't think OJ's team would have beenquite as good without him. No,
even though they were very very goodhis well, not his first couple,
but after Saban got there, LouSaban got there and they were like,
yeah, our quarterback threw the ballsix times this game. It was our
offense was give him the ball. One guy said in the documentary he could

(01:32:02):
run faster side to side than mostguys. Good running forward. And I
loved the commercial director. I can'tremember his name, but he was He
was a producer or a director ofcommercials that OJ did. And he was
talking about he and Marcus Allen werein an event and OJ was so competitive.
He's like, he's got bad kneesat this point in his career.
He beat e Fan Marcus. Hebeat Marcus Allen because he was so competitive

(01:32:27):
about it. I'm like, yeah, well that would come into play later.
Ten games played in the season, they went nine to one Oges nine
to one. In one his lastseason there, he had three hundred and
fifty five carries in ten games. What was his yard He about eighteen balls?
He caught eighteen. That's amazing. He couldn't catch anything. He was

(01:32:50):
the He was like Deon Sanders, although Dion was a defensive back. He
ran for an average of one hundredand seventy one yards per game on three
hundred and fifty five carries, whichalso means his average was poor. Yeah,
but what Oka once seventy was hisaverage? What did Reggie average more

(01:33:13):
than that? Didn't he in hisHeisman year? Didn't he average over two
thirteen games? He only carried theball two hundred times and averaged almost nine
yards of carry, twice as muchas OJ and ran for more total yards
last done. Of course, hewas doing it against Pac nineteen competition and
Notre Dame another five hundred yards receiving. I mean, he really was awesome.
He was the secondary college football thinkhe could catch a lot. He

(01:33:36):
could catch and then run. Thatwas the best part. All right,
can't wait to hear their next surveywhich other NFL or former fallen stars they
want or don't want in the game. How about the cheater section on a
Legends MLB game. That would bea good roster right there. It could
be just about anybody, literally, anybody in no era. Only these players

(01:33:58):
did it. I'm sorry I gotthat wrong. Orange Team bad as per

Talk seven ninety that music means manythings we have not yet discussed here on
the show, or either of ourtime or revisit of a few items that
were brought up earlier. Or you'rewatching the Ice Bowl it could mean that,
or you're watching the Ice bowls.NFL films music wex on the frozen

(01:35:55):
Ton truck. They play this musicduring more modern references than games played long
long ago. There have been someAll Star replacements in Major League Baseball.
There's been a little bit of NFLnews as we approached training camp. There's
obviously a bunch of other Major leaguenews and everything else. Dan, what
do you have for us today?Oh, we got a trade. A
former astro involved in a trade,Philly Mayiton's. That is correct. Cash

(01:36:18):
considerations are a player to be namedlater. Heading back to the Tampa Bay
Rays, Phil Maton going to theOrange in Blue of the New York Mets.
Hmmm, well, I guess thatsupplements Edwin Diaz. I mean,

(01:36:41):
they obviously needed some bullpen help andthis, you know, I had talked
about how poorly his season had gone, maybe two or three weeks ago,
when we were looking at the seasonsof nears A Mayton and the other reliever
that left Houston, and everybody thoughtthey did not replace Ryan Stanneck. And
this was all at a time whenthey're middle relievers. Montero I had got
to win the other night. Yeah, Montero, Scott and Martinez had been

(01:37:03):
phenomenal. Mayton had a bunch ofpoor outings, which gave him a bloated
er. He'd actually been pretty goodfor the Rays and looking at bullpen pitchers,
you can look at their ra andit doesn't really lie. But if
you're pitching in half of their gamesor forty five percent of their games,
and eighty percent of your appearances arescoreless ones, then you're probably not quite

(01:37:27):
as bad as a helper as yourera suggests, because more often than not
they give you the ball and youdo your job. The days you don't,
maybe you don't win those games becauseof your performance, So it can
be damning. But moving on toa new opportunity, the New York Metropolitans
team the Astros had a fine timewith not too long ago. Part of
this recently completed road trip. Bestof luck to Nick Mayton's brother. A

(01:37:53):
fleet doesn't punch anything. There wasa pitcher who punched a wall over the
time we were gone sixty day ILbecause of it, was not happy with
his performance. This is always asmart play. The other part of him
moving to the Mets, well, the Astros just played the Mets. Unless

(01:38:14):
these teams meet in the World Seriesor he gets traded again, I probably
won't see him. Oh well, well, they weren't going to see him
this year. In the clubhouse anyway, what else we go? All right,
So nineteen ninety five, I wantto take you guys back because Craig
Vigio recently was on with JP Morosion the Road to Cooper's Talent podcast,
and he had made a revelation thatI don't think many of us knew.

(01:38:38):
I knew this. He almost leftto go play for the Colorado Rockies nineteen
ninety five offseason. He said hewas quote minutes away from being a Rocky,
as he recalled the free agent pursuit, saying he didn't want to leave,
but he also wasn't in a hugeagreement with the stance that the Astros
were taking the cap that they wereplacing on the offer they were willing to

(01:39:00):
give him. That it was kindof one of those all right, well,
if you're not gonna move, thenwe're gonna go to the Colorado Rockies.
And the Astros went ahead and said, all right, we don't want
that to happen. Stick around, stay and be an Astro for the rest
of your life, which eventually hewas. Which it's also to ninety five.
I mean that's when the run ofdivision championships soon after started for this
team. So what could have maybenot been. He was drafted by the

(01:39:26):
Astros. He's a former first roundpick. And then eight years later,
after obviously a pretty good start tohis major league career, he reached free
agency. This is what Dan's talkingabout, and after reaching free agency and
entertaining offers, they re signed him. And then eleven years later he became
a free agent again and they signedhim and he played all of his baseball

(01:39:48):
games here in Houston, where henow is part of Jim Crane's circle of
trust. And later, after signingthat contract to stay with the Astros in
nineteen ninety five, soon to beformer teammate would leave the Astros to come
play for the Rockies, and hiscareer would go into the toilet. So
At Hampton, Mike Hampton, MikeHampton. Although his career as a hitter

(01:40:14):
flourished like every hitters does there sohad he gone to the Rockies and all
other things remained equal, nineteen hundredand fifty five of his three thousand and
sixty hits would have come in aRockies uniform if he got them there,
and probably they wouldn't have been doubles, they would have been home runs.
All things remained equal, yeah, yes, probably more Homer's fewer doubles.

(01:40:34):
Could you imagine, like Aaron Judgeor Jordon in Corsefield, somebody would die
on the street routinely. I meanJordon in Mexico City looked pretty good.
Four fifty and four fifty something likethat. So Bijio the astro barely for
his career. Okay, what else? All right? So, as you

(01:40:56):
mentioned earlier, Big Twelve media dayshappening out in Las Vegas, and the
commissioner of the Big Twelve, BrettYormark, throwing out quite the gauntlet for
the rest of college football, sayingthat they have solidified themselves as being a
top three conference in the country, which, well, there's only four other
power ones now, So I guessyou've got that going for you that there's

(01:41:17):
never been a better time than rightnow to be part of the Big Twelve.
They are truly a national conference.Ten states, four different tide and
zones, all eyes now on theBig Twelve for the right reasons. So
I think there's some significance to theranking where he put them. There's a
clear one and two that's in order, the SEC and the Big Ten.

(01:41:40):
That's fair, right, very Andthen I don't think. I mean,
I guess there's a competition. Wouldyou agree with him that they're next when
comparing them to the Atlantic Coast Conference, I mean, aside from Clemson in
Florida State, there's nobody else inthe ACC. I look at and saying,
okay, okay, So Clemson andFlorida State versus who and who in

(01:42:00):
the Big twelve as their top two? Can't Utah State and Utah and Kansas
State is more of the this year? They're in the next best team or
Oklahoma State this year. Even thoughcoach Gundhy has kept them near the top
of a much more competitive Big twelvefor years, their number two is clearly
worse than the ACC's number two, right, very or do you categorize Florida

(01:42:26):
State as their back So I'm notso enthralled by what they've done the last
twelve or fifteen years. Anyway,Ah, the burden of proof's actually going
to be on them. If they'reback, you've got to do it again.
That's probably fair. I think there'sa huge difference between one and two
and three and four. But whenthere are only four, as long as
you're part of it, aren't youfine? No, absolutely. I mean,

(01:42:47):
it's just it's kind of weird tokind of look at it that way.
I think when most people read thiscomment for the first time is it's
like, well, wait a minute, it'd never been a better time.
You just lost two of your benchmarkprograms out of this league, and you're
saying that it's gotten better with thosetwo leaving. Yeah. That obviously,
the exposure and the landscape, theliteral geographic landscape of the Big Twelve is

(01:43:12):
enormous and essentially coast to coast, close about as close as you could get
to the coast, the actual Westcoast with Utah and Arizona State and Arizona
part of things. Colorado is theother two join. But are you good?
And I think Utah is legitimately good. They've year after year after year

(01:43:33):
they've found a way to put themselveswith Oregon, SCUCLA or anybody else that's
been nearer at the top of thePac twelve, and they, I think
accurately. Would you agree were thepreseason media prediction to win the Big Twelve
this year? Utah? I believeso I'm saying it is that is who
won. Kansas State was second,Oklahoma State third. I would agree.

(01:43:55):
That's literally exactly my ballot would havelooked the same. I just I mean,
I mean, I don't necessarily thinkthat Utah moves the meter. I
mean, of course, along withthose others too as well. I mean,
look, Oklahoma State, can youknow, do all the high horsing
that they want to do in termsof, oh, we're not gonna play
Bedlam anymore. But the truth ofthe matter is it hurts them more than
it hurts Oklahoma of not playing thatgame. All right, give me the

(01:44:18):
answer to this question. Then howfar down the list and list them as
you go until you would say thisSEC team would not win the Big Twelve,
or at least be your prediction towin the Big Twelve. If Alabama
was in the Big twelve, youwould pick them first easily. If Texas

(01:44:38):
was in the very Georgia, that'sthree. How many others for the upcoming
season in the SEC would you pickfirst? If you added them to the
Big twelve LSU all missed tennesseee, that's six, you would have all six
of them as your first place team. Yeah, that's the difference between the
best New Power for and the thirdor fourth best and the same goes for

(01:45:00):
the Big ten as well. Imean, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn
State. You'd probably pick them overany of these others. Prop definitely the
first two, even with all thechanges at Michigan is including their coach and
quarterback. Probably Penn State, andit seems like Penn State then well,
they don't beat the Big two,but they beat everybody else every year.
I think that's fair. But you'realso catching down times. New coach at

(01:45:25):
s at UCLA, and we'll seeif Lincoln Riley can I guess improve their
defense a little bit. And hedoesn't want to play the SEC supposedly,
no kidding, you know. Andit is interesting how this will They're everything's
not done yet. There's so manyridiculous rumors about more changes coming and some
of these massive conferences actually losing teamsto these other massive conferences. Football is

(01:45:47):
here. I've got a big rumorabout the end of next football season.
I'm on to deliver next here onthe A team. I got a This
is not a rumor, this isfact. Right now, X marks the
spot right now through September twenty first, you're gonna be able to get one

Dalley Green. Catch shoot that fucktremble here every rocket is going on the
go with the iHeartRadio ads. Makeyour point. You got the home of
the Rockies, Sports Talk seven night. Well, I've got good news and

(01:47:12):
bad news, gentlemen, as itpertains to next year's Super Bowl. Now,
it has nothing to do with thefact that the Texans will er won't
be there. I hope they are, but if they are, and again,
it's just a rumor and it's Julyninth, but I think the powers
that be for the halftime show atthe Super Bowl are gonna go back down

(01:47:34):
the pop route. And the bettingfavorite right now is a thirty one year
old daughter of Billy ray She's onlythirty one. I know, that's the
first thing I said, Hannah Montana'sonly thirty one. Well, if you
think about the fact that she gotstarted when she was like five, Wow,
Willie Raymond's kid. Huh. Yeah. She's a rumored to be the

(01:48:00):
headline singer for the twenty twenty fiveSuper Bowl halftime show, which kind of
sounds crazy to even say twenty twentyfive right now. So, considering how
most of these go, and eachtime we bring it up in advance of
a possible performance, my immediate thoughtgoes to who is invited to help with
the show perform alongside with However, and she was a finalist last year,

(01:48:21):
I should say, so, whoare the obvious or not so obvious musicians
that should be with her with herif, in fact, Miley cyrus at
the Superdome Caesars Superdome in New Orleansat Super Bowl Licks February ninth, twenty
twenty five, Home of the Saints, who would perform with Miley, Well,

(01:48:45):
uh, you're gonna be way wayLX by the way, yes,
you're gonna be way more well versedin the Hannah Montana realm since your daughter
was ried around that age. Idon't think anyone from the Hannah era of
really is going to be Well, that's what I'm saying, though, what
if they showed up, Like whatif one of her co stars who's just

(01:49:06):
like bloated and broken and strung outand just needs some a boost, Well,
we'll bring you out here for everybody'snostalisia purposes. Let's do that.
I don't know who they would be, because that's why I'm asking. I
don't I mean, I mean usuallyI don't think it'll be. Like I
said, I don't think it's anybody. For what was the concept of that
show. She was a rock starin secret, like a like a like

(01:49:27):
a double identity thing like Superman, only for bad pop. Yes, her
kids like Ariana Grande. We'll justhave her headline. I'd rather watch that.
She can sing, she can whisper, she can sing better than Miley.
I don't know what it is.Not a fan, I'm not fine.
I'm not a fan of Miley either, although I will say this,

(01:49:50):
Ariana, Oh okay, so youlike Miley. I mean wrecking balls all
right with me. I will saythis the climb, not dry eye in
the house when I'm windows upping thatone. Yes, that's Miley Cyrus makes
perfect sense. That's the type ofartists as we've seen less most of the

(01:50:11):
people that have elected to accept theinvite and have then performed. Even though
these uh the genre of music hasbeen very different over the last five or
six Super Bowls, they all makeperfect sense. Not somebody out of left
field. Maybe some older than others, maybe some younger than others, but
the shows have been very good.I'm gonna say what I say every year,
You're stupid and you're missing the boatbecause you're not having Metallica do the

(01:50:33):
show. I'm not even kidding. At this point. They are mainstream enough,
oh absolutely, But I'm telling youI think they're penalized because they're quote
middle. I'm like, dude, you've had all these other bands and I
know what their first thing. Peopleare like, I don't know those old
heads like, but come on,Metallica is like continuously selling out stadiums all

(01:50:57):
the time year round. They're gonnado it again at the end of this
year, all throughout the fall. They did it last year. It's the
same tour they're on. As soonas they release an album, it goes
number one. And they're better thanMiley Cyrus. Oh, but they're more
it's more wide ranging and broad beingbetter, is it? Well, if
my options are those two, it'sa no brainer. And what's funny is

(01:51:19):
Miley covered one of their songs forthat deluxe Black album release they did.
I can't remember which song she did. I think it was nothing else Matters
was the one that she covered andit was all right. Most of the
recent performers probably been on the muchyounger than Metallica side. Uh yeah,

(01:51:40):
not like they haven't had older superBowl halftime they did Who and Stones,
Yes on the roofs Madonna, Yes, but she's an old British man.
That's the difference. Well, intwenty twelve. She was not what I
would call in her prime. Didyou see when she had that on FO
fortunate an incident recently where she waslike, why aren't you standing up at

(01:52:02):
my show to the front the personin the front row who was sitting in
a wheelchair. Not great Madonna? Not great? All right, super Bowl
New Orleans unless you put it licks, super Bowl Licks telling to have Miley
Cyrus as the halftime performer at superBowl Licks. She's gonna do something with

(01:52:24):
it. Nothing worse than JT.Probably that didn't really so much imply a
LIX no, but what nothing's gonnahappen. It's not only she's gonna jump
out of the stadium fall to hernext performance like Lady Gaga did Party in
the USA. Guilty pleasure kind of. I used it last July for guaranteed

(01:52:46):
play at the super Bowl halftime show. If Miley is performing, she might
even ended on that, Hey,New Orleans, what a dump stadium?
By the way, all right, classical elite Chevy sugar Land, classic elite

How many names would you get tobefore you got to Chris Gordy None?
What's less than that? One hundredSports Talk seven ninety listeners survey top

(01:55:25):
in this text thread. He said, it will not have people turning off
the halftime show. Rather it willbe just as widely watched as any of
the previous recent previous performers. Youknow what, I kind of wanted to
turn off the halftime show last year. I was like, Usher, what's
he done lately? He's played out. I went and saw him lately and
he gave a speech recently. Wherewas that at the awards show? Which

(01:55:48):
one the b ET Awards? Whatdid he say? There were some beleepables
in there? You watched the BETAwards, it was it caught a lot
where there's a lot of traction onsocial media. So you decided to flip

members by like eighteen years. It'sjust for one two. But they can't
get out there because they're too old. That's why you think they can't go
