Friday: Will the Giants take Shedeur Sanders?

We're six days away from the NFL Draft, and there
are mock drafts after mock drafts trying to figure out
what's going to happen and where after we get past
the first few picks. So I've got some ideas on
what I would do if I were I'm going to
play a GM for a day here. And I think
it's pretty evident that cam Ward's going to Tennessee. I
don't think that's any secret. I don't think that's pretty

(00:35):
much a given. And Cleveland's not going to pass on
Travis Hunter. They're okay with him playing on both sides
of the ball. Probably, I would say ninety percent of
the game on offense and twenty five to thirty percent
of the game on defense is likely what I would see.
There is rumor after rumor now that the Giants are
going to take Shudeur Sanders, and it's Joe Shane right,

their general manager.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Yes, he made a dumb move last.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Year by not signing Barkley to whatever Barkley wanted, and
Barkley went back to bite them in the rear end
when he did what he did in Philadelphia.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Well, not only that, but doubling down and saying that, well,
he's a Daniel Jones. You know, we got to figure
out if Daniel Jones is our future franchise quarterback, Beers,
we're paying him forty million.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
I know, on my forty million dollar quarterback handing off
to my twenty million dollar running back, I think is
something along the lines. He said something like that, Well,
that's just idiotic because.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
They wound up cutting both. They wound up cutting Daniel Job.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
They have Russell Wilson, they have Jameis Winston, and I
think they have de Vito, right, yes, sir, So those
are the three that they got right now. Shador Sanders
is currently, I don't think better than Russell Wilson.

I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
And I would say that Jameis Winston, as inconsistent that
he has been in his career, has the experience to
at least get you through a couple of games in
the season if you need him.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Yeah.

But and Danny DeVito does not have anybody's talent to Tommy.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Danny DeVito doesn't either.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
But Tommy DeVito does doesn't have much talent compared to
Shaduur Sanders. But he also probably knows a little bit
more about the NFL than Shaudor does. If Shador Standers
was a game changing, can't miss, you know, Josh Allen
type player, I would or even eighty percent of that
in the in the draft reports, I would say go

get him. I think Shador will be a good NFL quarterback.
I don't think he'll be a great one. Whether he
wins Super Bowls or not will be dependent on the
players around him. I think he's very much one of
those quarterbacks it's going to need players around him.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
He's not Mahomes, he's not Allen.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
He's not the guy or Jason Joe Burrow that can
win with whoever you throw out there on the field.
You got to have marquee players at the other positions
for him to be successful. And I think that, if
I'm not mistaken, the Giants passed on Micah Parsons a
few years ago, which allowed the Cowboys to get him.
There was quite a lot of teams passed, but the

Giants had a shot at him and they chose not to.
And I think Micah Parsons is the next edge rusher
in this league that's going to be great. Carter, I
mean Abdul Carter. I think he's gonna be. I think
he is that uh. And then when you get down
to the to who you're gonna take. I don't think

anybody's ever going to be Lawrence Taylor. But Abduall Carter
is close to Lawrence Taylor as the Giants have had
since they've had Lawrence Taylor. So they got to take
to me. They've got to take Abduall Carter with that pick.
That takes us to the fourth pick, and that's New
England and they don't need a quarterback. They got to
go offensive line or defensive line. So I'm I'm open

to taking the guy from from from Michigan, the Mason
at Mason Graham.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
And then the fifth pick is Jacksonville, and I don't
really care what they take. They need everything they need
offensive line, defensive line, so let's go Will Campbell offensive
tackle from LSU. The Raiders are an interesting story right
here because they've got Geno Smith, and there are a
lot of mock drafts that say it's time to take
Ashton Genty at this number. I loved what Ashton Genty

(04:22):
said in a pre workout a pre draft workout. He said,
if I were any general manager in the NFL, we
played tackle football. I'd picked the guy that the other
teams can't tackle. Now, you know that somebody's already looking
forward to playing against Ashton Genty and tackling him. But
I do get that he did have a lot of

(04:43):
yards after contact last year in college. Whether he can
do that in the pros or not, we'll see, but
he is definitely the best running back. If I were
the Raiders, I would focus more at the wide receiver spot,
but I think they're going to take Ashton Genty at six.
I think that's where I think Pete Carroll loves running backs.
I think he loves running backs that I think he'll

(05:03):
want to be able to have a good running game,
and I think Ashton Jenty does go to the Raiders
at six.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
It makes the most sense because you know, the one
thing that keeps getting brought up is with Pete Carroll
is he's a very play action style coach and with
them getting Geno Smith, Gino Smith is a very, you know, good,
play action style quarterback. So it makes the most sense.

(05:31):
And I know you would prefer them to try to
go get a wide receiver, but they do have two
stud tight ends. They have Brock Bowers, and then they
have the kid from the year before I believe as
well that I can't remember off the top of my head,
but I mean they can always go address wide receiver,
maybe in the second round or third round, something like that.

(05:54):
Whether it's you know, we brought it up yesterday Isaiah
Bond because obviously unfortunately he's falling a little bit so
or if you know, Ted McMillan winds up dropping a
little further. I've saw one mock draft that have the
Textans taking him at like twenty five somewhere around there.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
I got.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
I think genty at six is good for the Raiders.
The Jets need offensive offensive line. They're gonna probably the
guy from Missouri Membo is a pick. There's others out
there offensive line for them. At seven, they Carolina, they
need everything to so they can pick, they can pick
offensive defensive line.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
I don't I would move off of Brys Young if
I was Carolina, I would consider taking a chance on
Shoudoor Sanders because I don't think.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
But again, whether it's you're.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Basically saying we're going to move off of Bryce Young
if you do that, but I don't care whether it's
Bryce Young or Shoudoor Sanders. You've got to protect him first,
and you've got to give him weapons. So let's see
what Bryce youunk can do if you draft a running back,
or if you draft a wide receiver, or if you
draft more protection. And I think every team in the
NFL can get good as quickly as they can if
they draft correctly and do the right things correctly. What

(07:05):
they can't do is make mistakes with this draft and
then try to put a stark quarterback in with nobody
around him, or an average quarterback around him with nobody
around him. So I think Carolina Carolina is going to
be back in this situation again next year. But if
they would draft correctly, if they would spend some money
on free agency, they could fix their team. And I

(07:26):
would go offense for now, just so that you can
put butts in the seats and maybe can find something exciting.
And if you do it, if you are able to
get skill position players around him, maybe they take on
Maryon Hampton because he's right there in the same state
in college.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
So you got it. You can sell me.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
If I'm at Carolina season ticket holder, make me come
to the games.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Put thirty five points on the game.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
You may not be able to stop anybody, but put
somebody on the field that can make me excited about
coming to the games.

As far as the running back, they won't do that
because they already have their running back.

It's Chuba Hubbard. Well that's true. Yeah, they have Cuba Hubbard.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
They have, you know, the the disdain of one Andy Everett.
They have Rico Daddle now as well.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
Good for them, and then he can suck for them
just as much as he did for the Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
And then they have, even though he's going to be
coming off of ACL injury again unfortunately, will be former
Longhorn Jonathan Brooks as well.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
The other the other guy that I couldn't Jonathan Brooks
may be the guy if he gets healthy, he could
he could.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Very well be. Uh.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
The other tight end I was thinking about what the
Raiders was Michael Mayers, the stud tight end from two
years ago from Notre Dame. So they have two stud
tight ends with Brock Bowers and Michael Mayers. I if
I'm Carolina, I would probably roll with with wide receiver
because that's what that's what a lot of the mock
drafts have.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
And they've got tat McMillan going from Arizona.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
It makes the most.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
Sense because if you're in the mindset of, well, if
they decide to move off of Bryce Young and they
draft your door, you don't have anybody throw to. I mean,
just going off of what their roster was last year.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
You had to see Bryce Young actually play with the
same talent he had at Alabama, because the Alabama roster
was better than the roster he's got comparatively in Carolina.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
Yeah, so I would look at him as wide receiver definitely,
for sure, for sure. Or maybe if if they feel
that I don't, I don't know who the heck Tommy
Tremble is, maybe they go with the tight end from
uh from Penn State, Tyler Warren.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
That that could be. It's not sexy, but it could
be an improvement, all right, Chicago picks at ten. There's
a lot of a lot of people that like John
Ay Barron, the cornerback from Texas.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
I know you do best cornerback in the nation, baby.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
Well you think that about every player on the Texas roster.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Who won the Jim Thorpe Award this year.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
That's fine for the best corner but it has if
he didn't win the Jim Thorpe Award. You I said,
he got screwed, and he's the best cornerback. He is
the best corner That's why he won the award, not
Travis Hunter. Travis Hunter was the best all around athlete,
wasn't the best corner San Francisco is gonna be uh
in the eleventh spot and that takes this to Dallas.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
Well real quick with with San Francisco, because I heard
Colin bring this one up the other day.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
We we we have talked about obviously with the offensive line.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
If Kelvin Banks, junior former Longhorn stud uh, if he
happens to drop and if he is there, do the
Cowboys potentially take him? Colin was saying that he thinks
that the Niners should take him because obviously Trent Williams,
the left, the future Hall of Fame left tackle, got
old in a hurry, and that could very well be

the replacement for them, especially if they're gonna pay Brouck party.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Yeah, they got to get in protection and then Dalla
and Dallas at twelve. If the if Matthew Golden's there,
I would consider it. I would rather have a Murray
and Hampton, and the other potential would be would be Banks.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
If he's there, I want one of those three and
I would kind of rate them.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
I would probably rate them Golden one, are Hampton won
Golden two in Banks three, And if any of those
three players are there, to me, that's it's got to
be one of those three players. And if Jerry chooses
one of those three, I wouldn't be critical of either
of the three because they need all three. As they evaluate,
they have to decide do we want the best wide receiver,

(11:23):
do we want the best left tackle, or do we
want the best running backs still available? And if Hampton
is there, they I would go running back first because
they got to fix that. The guys they they're having
service all running backs in the league.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
Don't do it for me.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
Give me somebody that's going to got the potential to
be a star. Matthew Golden Is could be a star.
But and by the time he's ready for a max contract,
CD Lamb's career is going to be way down the road.
And you're probably not going to have the t Higgins
situation that they had with Jamar Chase because their age
gaps are certainly smaller than the two that you have

here are terms of service will be So those are
the three I want to Dallas take because I think
all three could be available. And that's banks if he
doesn't go to San Francisco and Golden, Golden and Hampton,
you okay with any of those three, I'm I.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
Think I'm on board with you. If Omari and Hampton
is there, I think you should take the running back
at that point. Now I could see a potential to
where maybe they don't because it has been touted that
this is a very deep running back draft, So maybe
they do decide to go Matthew Golden, or if tech

Ncmillan is there, they could go with him as well,
even though some of the stuff that's come out about him,
I'm not real big on. I think it's if it's
one of those three, I'm perfectly fine with.
