Speaker 1 (00:10):
NBA is starting to pass out some awards we have won.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
What do we have? Excuse me? So far?
Speaker 3 (00:18):
The sixth Man of the Year Award has been awarded
to one Peyton Pritchard of the Boston Celtics with eighty
two first place votes. He had a total of four
hundred and forty five four hundred, yeah, four hundred and.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Fifty four total points.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Second was Detroit Pistons Malik Beasley, and then third was
Cleveland Cavaliers Tie. Cleveland's Cavaliers Ty Jerome at third nowhere
on this list, Andy, is one Keldon Johnson, which selfishly,
that's a tragedy. Keldon Johnson really deserved to be on
(00:57):
this list. He didn't deserve necessarily to win it. And
I get with Peyton Pritchard here.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Okay, I'm gonna go on a box here, Andy, so
just I think I'm gonna agree with you on this.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
I'm gonna so just sit back here.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
I understand why Peyton Pritchard won this award, but.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
It's the same notion of.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
How I rated and judged Matthew Stafford's career with all
of the stats that he had at Detroit, because at
some point they had to throw the ball a bajillion
times because they were always down by thirty points. Now,
in the aspect of Peyton Pritchard, he's with the Boston Celtics.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
He comes off the bench, but he's.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
In an offense and a team and it's no fault
of his own, but he's on an offense and the
team that jack's up fifty five plus threes.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
A game, and he gets to participate in that. He
gets to participate in that.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
And if I remember correctly, there's a stat that's like,
Peyton Pritchard only has like ninety percent of the shots
that he takes a three point shots, so it's like
and grited.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
He makes them, But it's.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Like, are we overvaluating how much he is he is
really means to that team.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
That's my only issue. That's my biggest that's my biggest buck.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
But I can say, I'm gonna play Devil's advocate here,
hit me with it. Did Monogenobili win six Man of
the Year all those years for the same reason?
Speaker 2 (02:22):
No?
Speaker 1 (02:23):
No, not the fifty threes, but he was the best
player off the bench on the best team in the league.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
You could argue that at times he they weren't the
best team.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
But they by the time April rolled around, the years
that they won or made the NBA Finals, they were
the best team or at least the best team in
the West.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Yeah, but they were one.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
They were one rebound away from having back to back
championships in thirteen and fourteen.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
That's still too soon.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
But if if you could argue those teams back, then
that's starting five. And granted, even with number two back
on the roster, the Celtics starting five right now is
still leaps. I'm not leaps and bounds, but they're really
up there because again, they have guys one through five
(03:17):
that on any given night they're like, hey, you know what,
Jason Tatum, I don't feel like I don't feel like
scoring twenty points.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Derek White, you're gonna go for thirty?
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Well tomorrow, there's a there's a question mark as to
whether or not they're gonna what's Tatum's doubtful? Yeah, Jayson
Tatum is doubtful yea, So, which means Cozingus is probably
gonna go go for Yeah. They've got they've got depth.
And what's amazing is is Derek White's their fifth best.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Player or four, fourth, or Harford.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
So you know, you can pick take your pick because
Brown and and Tatum are one and two and and
Toorzingis is in the mix. So Derrek White is on
most nights your fifth best players. So I agree with
you that Pritchard gets the nod. If the Spurs were
for a forty five win team, I think Keldon Johnson
(04:06):
would have more consideration. But when you only win thirty
four games, the only the only award that the Spurs
should get this year and they're not because he didn't
play enough games is Wimby because he should be the
Defensive Player of the Year.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
But two awards. What's the other one? Rookie of the
Year Steph Castle.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
You know, well they're gonna get those steps step Castle
is gonna get Rookie of the Year. But Wimby would
have get Defensive Player of the Year based on the
fact that he has more blocks than the second place
guy Daniel he played in forty less games. Yeah, uh
so or so that's that's the situation there, like but
it's it's.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
You're usually when you when you get.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Six man all all NBA teams, they're usually not putting
players on non playoff teams on those teams.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Or on those awards.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Yeah, it's just when I'm looking at this, at this
awards list. You know again, Eliite easily deserves to be
up there. Ty Jerome, I believe deserves to be up
there with the Cavs. DeAndre Hunter deserves to be up there.
By the way, what a great pick up for them
at trade deadline. Thank you again Atlanta Hawks for doing that.
(05:15):
But nos Reed deserves to be up there. Nos Reed
is a good role guy that comes off the bench.
The two that don't make any sense to me whatsoever
is Russell Westbrook had had fourth, had four third place votes,
and then Alex Caruso. Well, Keldon Johnson is a lot
(05:35):
more important than Alex.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Denver media is giving Westbrook his his his points. Yeah,
I don't care about Alex Cruso.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Either, But.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
I always question how all Star games. I don't think
it's done scientifically, And the players are the worst ones
in the world to vote because they're just going to
vote for their friends and who they like. But when
I've done this before with UTSA, and some years they
don't have us do it.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
In some years they do.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
But when we were in Conference USA, it was me
and JJ that got the San Antonio votes for basketball.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
We didn't for football.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
That was sids and coaches, and basically the sids told
the coaches who they should vote for, and that's how
they came up with a team, I think. But I
took it pretty seriously because I picked players who I
thought were good and typically, like I'll give you an example.
There was a player and I can picture him. It's
(06:35):
got a common name, but I can't think of his
name right now. He played for Western Kentucky, and he
wasn't Charles Bassey or their point guard, but it is
that Anderson. Her last name was Anderson, and it could
be any name. Jordan Anderson. I think it was his name,
Jordan Anderson let uts up a utsa up. Every time
he played, whether utsa won or not, he had a
great game. So I put him. You put five number ones.
(06:57):
They had list like thirty people on the ballot, Put
five people who thought should be on first team, five
number twos who should be on the second team, and
five number threes, and I would put him usually second
team every year. Well, I think I was the only
one that voted for him because when he played into
a Texas he sucked, and when he played Fau.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
He was terrible.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
So those guys weren't going to vote for him because
they didn't do anything. He didn't do anything in those games.
And so to me, that's something that you have to
you take into consideration. If Bill Schoning is watching and
I assume he gets a vote or did this year.
If Bill Shoning is watching the Washington Wizards twice and
(07:37):
one guy has two thirty point games, that may get
some attention to him in giving him a vote. Although
it's the Wizards and he might want to count them out.
But maybe it's Charlotte, or maybe it's Detroit. Maybe you
see him twice and one guy scores thirty both nights,
Well I'm going to think about putting him on one
of my teams. But then he sucks the rest of
the year against every team he plays for, and you
(07:58):
see his stats and they're okay, they're not great.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Uh It.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Sometimes you just get a skewed version and a very
subjective version, not objective version of who.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Should be on those teams.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
You know what's dumb is we completely forgot Drew Holidays.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
On the Boston Celtics as well.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Yeah, I forgot, Yeah, we forget about Drew Yeah, that
puts that's what puts those two guys even further.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
Down on the list.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
Yeah, I mean Drew Holiday is not looking to score.
He doesn't need to. He can be he can if
he needs to.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
So yeah, but.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
That's just my rant on that. I understand why he
why he why he won it. But I just you know, hey,
when when you're doing that much and when you're only
good at one thing, granted he's good at it, do
you really like do you really deserve that?
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Though? Well, who else you gonna who else you gonna pick? Again?
Speaker 3 (08:49):
I would have I would have taken maybe Maliite Beasley,
especially with what the turnaround of the Detroit Pistons were
this year. Again ties Cleveland Cavaliers, whether it's tied Rome.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
By the time you get to a pick like that,
most of the people in the NBA are lazy. Oh
who's the best, Who's got the most points? For people
coming off the bench? I'm voting for him exactly, all right.
Two other things to finish up the show. Next, we'll
tell you about them, both, including a rant. Next, it's
the Andy Everage show on the ticket
