never occurred to me before, But do you know dogs
can donate blood?
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Oh? Yeah? Or no? I didn't know that, but I
guess now that you say it out loud, it kind
of makes sense.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
It makes total sense, right, But have you ever seen
it happen?
Speaker 3 (00:28):
No?
Speaker 1 (00:28):
I don't think I would be able to watch it,
if I'm being honest with you.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
So in Warchester, England, an old English foxhound named Cannick
became an unlikely hero after donating blood to save the
life of a four month old Cocker Spaniel named Roscoe.
Roscoe had been suffering from severe internal bleeding caused by
a rare genetic condition, and time was running out, so
(00:53):
veterinarians quickly reached out for help, and they found it
through the Kroome and West Warwickshire Hunt, where joint Master PIPA.
Wilkinson volunteered Canick as a donor.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
But PIPA, yeah, you sweet angel.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Within hours, Cannick had given two hundred milliliters of blood,
which was then rushed over to the Vets for an
emergency transfusion, and the procedure worked. Roscoe was stabilized and
Vets say he is now on track to make a
full recovery.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
That's incredible.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
I looked this up. This is like a common thing.
Blood transfusion between dogs is a common thing. But I
have never been asked to donate my dog's blood.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Would you yes, if my dog.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Was healthy and comfortable, I would I give blood as
a human every fifty six days.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Yeah, but you had I'm not I'm just saying coming
from the other side. I'm not saying I don't agree
with you, but I don't know if i'd be comfortable
with it, because the dog doesn't have a say in it.
Like I can't ask the dog, are you okay to
give blood?
Speaker 1 (01:53):
But like I can I could. I couldn't say yeah,
I'm okay giving blood. There's a consent issue here, I.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Would feel but I would like even with kids, like
unless it was to save another kid's life. That's probably
the only way I would do it with my own children.
But like a pet, I couldn't look them in the
eye and be like, hey, dude, we're gonna poke you
with something. You're gonna have no idea what's going on.
But it's good that they can and they do well.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Your kids got shots right when they were little.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Yeah, well yeah, that's kind of the same thing, kind
of kind of I don't know, I don't.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Isn't that crazy though, I just it's something that has
never occurred to me, Like, I know, it probably happens
because dogs have surgery all the time. Yeah, but I've
just I've never thought about it.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
It was wild.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
And then these cute puppies, they are actually both really cute.
I'll post this at bnety three dot com, But whether
it's people or pets, the takeaway here is that kindness
has the power to save lives.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
And it's incredible that you can do it and it worked. Crazy.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
