Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right. It is the Ben and Skin Show ninety
seven point one The Eagle. This segment is brought to
you by the Sunset at McKinney Amphitheater, where you can
own a piece of Dallas's most luxurious amphitheater. Now it's
coming here in twenty twenty six, is going to be
in mckinni. It's going to be an incredible venue and
you can own a piece of it. To find out
more information, go to Sunset Texas dot com. You can
(00:20):
own a fire pit suite. It's like a real estate investment.
You get DIBs on all the tickets so you can
sell the tickets. You can also join the Apeman Club.
It's awesome again that Sunset Texas dot Com been what
we you say in moments ago we were talking about
the people are calling it a secret press conference, which
I don't know that that's fair. It was a private
(00:41):
press conference. I mean, it's not a secret. People knew
it was happening, but you had to be invited. They
only invited like I think it was twelve members. I
heard that when I'm not sure the exact number, but
that's about the size that it was. And I saw
our Buddy mark Stein of DLLs was on there talking
about how a horrible way it is to go about
(01:03):
a press conference, not only yesterday, but what they did
in Cleveland on that Sunday morning. He was going off,
and I've never seen Stein go off on anything, and
I think that speaks volumes as to how emotional all
of this is and how many missteps from a public
relations standpoint, the Dallas Maverick seem to keep making. If
mark Stein is going to speak up like that, yeah,
(01:24):
And I want to be so careful about this because
I respect Dirk so much and I don't want to
speak for him or pretend that I know anything I don't.
I just what I wanted to bring up is that
Tim McMahon has been making the rounds and he's been
talking to a lot of radio shows and podcasts. Obviously
he was the strawsturing the drink at this press conference thing,
(01:45):
and he's been going around and talking about an article
that he's planning to release the minute the mav season
is over, and a couple of the places where I've
seen it posted is they've said that Tim McMahon is
going to talk about how Dirk became at odds with
the organization. Again, I'm not saying that. I'm just saying
(02:06):
what I've seen out there that's coming down the road.
And so for a MAVs fan, you're looking at, Okay,
they got rid of Luca and somehow they've alienated Dirk,
Like what how do I process that? All on the
night of a plane Like, it's a lot to take in.
So as a Maps fan, you're like, wait, they lost
seventy seven, they lost forty one. What is happening like
(02:28):
as the sky fall. So whatever McMahon is talking about,
and I don't know what it is, I can't wait
to read it the minute it comes out. Yeah. Same.
But I also think what's been happening is local people,
MAVs fans have suddenly gone Wait a second, I thought
McMahon was a Nico Harrison mouthpiece. I thought he was
tearing down Luca with all these lies, Like wait, what
(02:49):
Now he's the one asking the tough questions And now
they're carrying McMahon on their shoulders. And we've been trying
to say this to anyone who will listen. We've known
Tim McMahon very well. We worked with him at Hea
Pien Dallas I almost got in a fistfight with Tim
McMahon at a basketball court in Miami. He do an
elbow and he throws elbows. That's the way he plays.
And I'm soft, and so I would have put that
(03:10):
on me if that had happened. But he's he's a friend,
and he is the best at what he does that
I've ever seen in my media career. What I mean
is asking the tough questions. I could be sitting next
to Rick Carlisle and he could look at me with
those cold dead shark eyes and stare laser beams through
my soul and I might wet my pants. McMahon would
look right at him and tear his ass down. McMahon
(03:32):
fears no one. McMahon is in no one's pocket. He
doesn't do anyone's bidding. He just asked the toughest questions
on Earth. And so if you're a MAVs fan and
you've been thinking that he had some agenda, was in
someone's pocket, you're a dumb ass. I think what it
is as I think people read what they want to
read with the they read with confirmation bias. Yeah, and
(03:54):
what Tim does is Tim wants to give you both
sides of the story. Like again, when I tried talk
about this, I want to present it as I wouldn't
have done the trade. I wouldn't have That's not the
way that I believe about basketball. I've also never run
a basketball team, so no one is, hey, what kind
of trades would you make? Right? Like when I was
(04:14):
younger and more naive and arrogant, I thought I can
do this. I was wrong. Okay, But my whole point
is we all have opinions, and that's fine. They can
be validated however you want to validate it. But people
read stuff to the degree they want to read it.
And I think it's probably inaccurate that Luca's this scott
free angel that's never done anything wrong and evil Nico
(04:37):
shipped him off. Like, I think that's probably inaccurate. And
I can say that telling you whatever problems Luca does
or doesn't have, I wouldn't have traded him. I would
have gone, Okay, how can I fix this? Because I
believe that there's certain players in basketball that are so
uniquely talented you have to figure out how to make
them work if there are deficiencies. That's the way I
(04:57):
look at it. Okay, Nico didn't look at it this way,
and he said this over and over and that press conference,
and I told you, guys, is when it happened. He
targeted Anthony Davis. That's who he wanted. So we can
sit here old and go. He didn't get enough for him,
not in his mind. In his mind, he can win
a championship with Anthony Davis because that's what he believes
Anthony Davis is. And he said that, he said it
(05:20):
over and over. We targeted Anthony Davis. Defense wins championships.
That's how he believes he's gonna go win a championship.
I'm not saying he's right. I'm not saying he's wrong.
I'm saying that's what the man believes. And so the
reason I'm saying all this in context of Tim McMahon,
Tim McMahon is gonna write things that if you're think
Luca's Jesus, you're gonna think Tim McMahon screwing you over.
(05:41):
He's also gonna write things. And if you're in Nico
Harrison's family, you think Tim's out to get you because
he's presenting both sides. And he told Nico that yesterday.
It's in the transcript, he said, who cares what I think?
I'm asking trying to get an answer to this question
on logic. My opinion doesn't matter, like he said that
(06:01):
to Nico, And that's what I would say on all
the people that think he's out to get Luca. He
doesn't think his opinion on Luca matters. He wants to
give everybody every bit of this story so people can
try to understand how a twenty five year old generational
talent is traded in the middle of the night for
a return that ninety eight percent of the people out
there perceive is not enough. That's what Tim McMahon's job is,
(06:25):
and he busts his ass to try to do it.
He ain't pro Nico, he ain't pro Cuban, he ain't
pro Luca, he ain't pro Dirk. He's trying to do
his effin' job. Sorry, we're gonna get back into the
preview for tonight's game and talk to Little Maps coming
up at five point thirty, so don't miss that. But
coming up next, we're gonna get into did I watch
a show that Katie's been begging us to watch? We
(06:47):
got a little Cowboys Talk coming your way and the
most anticipated movies at the summer. This is the world
famous Ben and Skin show. On ninety seven point one,
The Eagle
