Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right. Nothing gets the party started like that song.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
And I'm ready to get this party started at the
Chalk Talk Casino and Resort.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
Lit Man, that just gets me fired up, you know
what I'm saying. Yeah, yeah, af bro, I want to
hear some Christmas carollers right now.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
We are at the Chalk Talk Casino and Resort here.
I just get so happy when I'm here. This is
my happy place, the Chalk Talk Casino and Resort in Durant, Oklahoma,
where the possibilities are endless. And we got the stage
set for some potential high jinks today as we've got
about twenty chairs.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Set up like set up in front of us.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
We're right outside the District which is District Hall where
we broadcast when we come to Chalk Tall, which we
love coming here. But there's Italia Kitchen, there's Soul Hot Chicken,
there's the pit. There's a velvet taco. You got you
some velvet tacos so good when it hits your lips,
it's so amazingly good. What is it a euphemism for
I forgot?
Speaker 1 (00:54):
I don't know. It's like good food. Yeah, yeah, it's
pretty pretty good.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Christina, And we are right now to the League.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Sports Bar, and we're right on the edge of the casino.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
You see the slot machines.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
There's over seventy four hundred slot machines here and you
can see about fourteen of them right there.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
Do you you know what's right there, the greatest bar
in the league. That bar right there is called the League.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
We've had many nights watching multiple sports and various horse
races at that bar.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Yes, that's where the players played it. Okay, we go
right now.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
And so if you are coming out to the casino tonight,
like maybe you're gonna come see a sticks concert, dude,
we are set up for some highjinks because we're right
outside the league and there are about thirty chairs set up,
and so we were like, wow, they right, not really
in front of us, kind of off to the side.
And so when you see our setup here, we've got
(01:49):
you know, Yvonne has set up all the ninety seven
point one the eagle tables with table claws and all
that stuff, and so it looks like, wow, this radio
show is gonna draw you know, forty fans are gonna
come sit in these orange chairs here in the lobby.
But somehow it got off you know, like they're not
set up directly in front of our table, so there
must be a miscommunication.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Then we find out no, no, no.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
They realize we're idiots and the spares, and that if
anybody comes out here, they're just gonna stand here and
watch us do the show. And those chairs are set
up for Christmas carollers who are gonna start at six o'clock.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Singing Christmas music because that's what Christmas Carollers do. Yeah,
And honestly, when people do come out and see us
here at Chalkdown, and they do see us, they can
come walk by, we wave, they wave and they say, hey,
we like you guys, and then they head straight to
the slot machines or the blackjack tapes.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
They don't really watch our show.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Yeah, they go get their room, they check in, and
then they go straight and start gaming.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
God, I wish I was getting I wish I like
to plan this around when we're gonna be here, and
we're gonna be here a lot. We're gonna be here
doing lots of different remotes throughout the year next year
as well, and we'd love it if you want to
come out and hang out with us, because now on
this particular stay.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
I'm not staying. I don't have a room. I'm not
gonna be gambling. Is that because you didn't want to
see sticks in contracts?
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Man, my daughter's got a basketball tournament, so I'm like,
you want to see sticks. I'm racing back out of
here too. You get home, which, by the way, I
forgot the intro.
Speaker 5 (03:12):
Jo A smooth for God.
Speaker 6 (03:14):
You start time mos right now, you're ready, right right,
right right one.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Time quick wit epan with ill show.
Speaker 7 (03:35):
You're gonna ruling it, except with a summer week pursuing it.
Huddled out shaw shank through the sewer. Kid, Now what
chilling at day eagle? Yeah, we're doing it. Three o'clock
on the dock. Got a habit for my house, a
goat status, Howard starting to get Tradit shows that up
multiplied like a rabbit.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
Two end zone out, crank it up, beating the habit.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
I hang out with my friend Rocket on the radio.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Mom always talking on the radio.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
It's time to to this walk in, Oh baby, baby,
Kati Christina all the Oma radio.
Speaker 5 (04:24):
Ah.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Yes, we are live and direct from the chalk Taw
Casino and Resort, Durant, Oklahoma, where fun is happening all
the time.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
The possibilities are endless here.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
So just make sure to get out of here as
quickly as you can, whether it's today or any weekend
or any time, because there's always fun happening. And tonight
at Choktaw Casino and Resort and Durant, Oklahoma, Sticks is performing, Dude,
that is going to be a fun concert for a
lot of people there.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
They're one of the I mean, we're right next to
our studios.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
When we're not here, we're right next door to Loan's
and I bet Lone Stars pumping out a Stick song
about once an hour. I feel like they're in such
heavy rotation over there at Lone Star.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
It's amazing. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
And so we were sitting here talking about six and
we just started kicking around. Okay, so how many how
many banger hits do they have? And I'll be damned,
as we sat here and talked about it, we came
up with quite a few. Now, we like to podcast
our show, and if we were to play music on
our show, we couldn't podcast it.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
That's why the Today Game is not podcasted? Is that why?
Speaker 2 (05:30):
So I thought maybe one of the things we could
do is see if we can remember and sing Stick songs,
like if you can remind me, because what age or
what years are we talking about where Sticks was doing there?
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Can I guess late seventies.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Yeah, that's a good guess. It's rock solid if I
remember correctly. And I got to like kind of attach
it to a memory.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
From school, if correctly.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
The last big Sticks record was the one that had
best of times. Huh uh, these are the best.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Oh, there's seventh most stream song on Spotify.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
Don'tkay, I don't recognize it. That was not clicking that well,
it's because I can't sing. That was their last big
hit together. And then so the main guys behind Styx
or Tommy Shaw who played guitar and sing Tommy Saw
Tommy No Son of a Bitch, And then the keyboard
player Dennis the Young and Dennis de Young would sing
(06:25):
the ballads like Babe, Babe, I'm believing, don't know, god man, it.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Was so sonically beautiful, no, yeah, so perfectly like it's
like they were using auto tune before auto tune was
the thing.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
But then, I don't know if Stick's performing tonight, if
Tommy Shaw and Dennis the Young are back together, because
they had a falling out and then Dennis Deyong went
and recorded the worst song of the eighties, Desert.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
Moon, Desert Moon on dazz Moon.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
He would do a lot of piano ballads, you remember that, No,
he would do like, he would do a lot of
piano ballads. And Tommy like if they're doing Renegade, Tommy
Shaw's the driving force behind Renegade.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
That's one that Rocks rented kind of like that's always
in the Mad Rock Well neither was.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Yeah, and and there are there are elements of Sticks
that are proggy, like for example, mister Roboto is a
whole concept thing, which you got Miss Robot, which that's
a whole concept thing.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
Which that's what prog bands do.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
They do concept records and things like that, right, So
there are elements of Sticks that are proggy.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
And then they were known for their power ballads.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
Like Babe and and and so when I think of Sticks,
the first thing I think of is come sail Away
being Come.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Sail Away, Come Away. I didn't know that, Yeah, And
and that is that is the endings.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
That's the song that ended the TV series Freaks and Geeks.
And the joke in it is that the main character
who wants to dance. He's at the school dance and
he doesn't know how to dance, so they're like, just
do a slow dance. So he starts at the beginning
of Come Sail Away, which starts as a ballad, and
then it starts rocking and he's forced to have to
dance with her fast.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
Okay, so it's a funny bit. So they do.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
But yeah, they they go back and forth between power
ballads and proggy rock kind of.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
Power ballads, prog rock, yacht rock, and it's what is
the what is that?
Speaker 1 (08:37):
All their best songs are do we leave any out?
Speaker 4 (08:39):
Well, their most stream song on Spotify's Renegade by a Lot,
which we just sing that, and then come sell Away
and then Babe, which I still don't think I you
would know it.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
Really if you don't recognize this babe, I'm if you
don't know that far, that's it's like, that's how it's.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
So it's just singing with nothing else.
Speaker 5 (08:59):
Now.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
I did have some news on the band.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
On March twentieth of this year, they announced that Ricky
Phillips would be leaving the band to spend more time
at home, but Lawrence Gowen's younger brother, Terry is the
new bass player.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Oh, Terry's the base. Terry and Ronnie pretty great. So
does it say whether or not Dennis DeYoung is with
the band?
Speaker 1 (09:19):
So current members James j. Y Young, is that Dennis is? No,
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
Chuck Pinazo, okay, that it looks like he there was
a former member of the man, John Pinoso, Tommy Shaw,
that's he's important. Todd Suckerman, Yeah, uh, Lawrence Gowen, will Ivankovich,
Terry going.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Okay, So yeah, Dennis, they never made up and they
have unless Dennis the Young passed and I didn't even
know it.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
If there's people listen like you know, like it's Dix
used to do it for me, like you got Nelly
next week.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
And that's the greatest, the great news of the grand
theater here at the chalk Pakas in a resort during Oklahoma,
and they have so many different bands coming there.
Speaker 8 (10:00):
I had one of the best nights of my life
was here when I saw The Killers. Oh yes, two
years ago I think it was, and maybe a fool Sophia.
Another one of the greatest knights of my life was
here when my wife went to see the Jonas brothers
and I want about one thousand dollars the black jack table.
I was partying with you that now, and she came
to me and said how much did you lose?
Speaker 1 (10:21):
And I was on the contrary, honey, yeah, up a foul.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
Well, you were sitting there salivating over Nick Jonas.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
I was winning money over here. It would be Joe Jonas,
thank you? Right? Oh really? Yeah? She poweringked them for
you and heard, no, Joe's in the righteous gymstones. Yeah,
I know, but that was for her.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
He's number one for her or just in general. I
think it's for him forever for you. Really, it's not
even debatable, It's never been debatable. Yes, Nick Jonas is
the biggest Joe Nick Joe all the time I know.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
And Nick is the one that had all the solo hits.
No One.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
We're talking about the Joe bros I know, and one
of them is Nick Jonas. And when they went on
their own, everyone's like, oh, you're just a Partridge family.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
Nick Jonas is justin Timberlake. Now. I was.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
I was looking up stick since they're performing at chalk
Taw and I was doing a deep dive on them
and I was trying to figure out if they were
yacht rock or not.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
They're not yacht rock.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
And there is a group called Yachty by Nature, okay,
and they only perform perform yacht rock songs. They're cover
band and they perform, they do perform, Come sail Away.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
I like the idea of little Yachty doing yacht rock songs.
He might he's got a funny little yachty rock. No, no, no,
that's okay. And and there's songs that aren't yacht rock.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
They get played. What about their song boat on the River.
It's not about a boat.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
That's river rock.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
Oh yeah, that's casino gambling river rock.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
I'm very ozark. Yeah. Have you guys ever been riverboat Gambler? Wait?
What hold on question? Is it is Edward of Nahara
Champions Ozark? Was it a Reo speedwagon? Yes?
Speaker 3 (12:00):
And dude, and Ario's beadwagon is more like Sticks than
Styx is yacht rock?
Speaker 1 (12:05):
I would argue, Yeah, you know this is this is
really an argument that Jeff k should be having right now.
Oh he's got his own station to do that. Yeah,
the Lone Star.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
But uh, but dude, if you're mine in Ben's age,
what you like about Styx. Is you like mister Roboto
because you went roller skating to that? Yeah, that was
a big roller skating jam. Yeah, absolutely, yeah, you would
know the best of times.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
All right, you your ass.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Well, we are at the chalk Tawk Casino and Resort
and to Rant, Oklahoma, and we are so fired up
to be here, and uh yes, Styx is performing tonight, Katie.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
Who did you say was coming down the pike? Well, dude,
we have Cole Swindell tomorrow night.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
Next week on Friday and Saturday, we have Nelly, dude,
and we had Creed coming in here on the twenty eighth.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Are they bringing the Texas Rangers with him? I hope?
So now they're actually bringing seven Dust with them. Oh wow.
Speaker 4 (12:55):
And Ivan tells me Los Tigress del Norte January thirty.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
First, he's talk about the Tigers of the North.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Yes, North Tigers. The Tigers of the North do not
mess around. They are gonna be legit.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
So we're in good shape.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
Okay, very nice where we are off, by the way,
ticketmaster dot com for any of those shows, Okay, and
get room and stay out here and have an absolute
blast because there's always something fun happening out here.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
The possibilities are absolutely endless. All right, are we gonna
carry this over?
Speaker 5 (13:22):
Then?
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Yeah? Let's let's all right? Yeah? All right?
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Coming up next in uh, where are you gonna take
his KT?
Speaker 1 (13:28):
What's the plan? Oh he's checking his email. No, I'm
not checking my email.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
Well, we're gonna we're gonna give a shot at pop
culture jeopard Do you guys want to see if you
can answer the questions that we're actually asked to actual people?
Speaker 1 (13:38):
You bet your ass. Let's be fun and
Speaker 2 (13:39):
That's coming up next, Live from the Chalk Talk Casino
and Resort to Rain, Oklahoma,
