of being recognized.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Yeah, yeah, who doesn't.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
I know it's early to infer what's going to happen
with the Trump tariffs, but I would imagine that some
states will be impacted more than others. How do you
think Florida will fare compared to two other states? Well, um,
you come to the right place first, a word from
our president.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
You want to know how we're going to fare compared comparatively.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
The markets are going to boom the stop He's gonna boom,
The country is going to boom, and.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
The rest of the world wants to see, is there
any way that can make a deal.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
There you go, It's going to be boom, boom, boom.
Joel's doing old dance. We cannot get the cameras in
here quickly enough. We will soon have this on video
live where you can see the best show that takes place,
which isn't what happens on the air, but Joel's reaction
often to what I'm saying, or in that case the President.

(02:25):
You've raised great question, and it's a good one to
explore in depth. The impact of tariff policies is not
going to be the same in every state. You've got
all kinds of different factors, like the economic structure of
a state, the manufacturing base of a state, what it
is that is being manufactured, what it is that's being
imported and exported, all these different factors. And so, for example, China,

(02:49):
which will soon face a fifty four percent tariff by
the way, they have issued a retaliatory tariff against us
this morning. But the Trump tariff's all star April ninth,
and so a lot of things are going to start
changing around then states with strong times in Chinese imports,
they're probably gonna end up feeling the greatest impact by

(03:10):
the time it's all said and done. But but there's
another dynamic that goes into it when it comes to
like the Chinese stuff, there's not a ton from the
import side a difference between states, but there is based
upon who states tend to do the most business with
on the export side. So I'm going to start you

(03:31):
out with an analysis of Census Bureau and USA Trade
Online data, and if we take a look at the
overall most exposed state to the import tariffs the import teriffs. First,
what state do you think would be the most impacted
by import tariffs? I could give you like a dozen

(03:52):
of these and I still don't think you would get there.
The survey says Montana, Montana, and that's largely due to
why geography has much to do with it, their dependence
on Canadian imports, which, by the way, that is a
big thing. If we take a look at the five
most impacted states from import tariffs, they are, in this order, Montana,

(04:19):
New Mexico, Vermont, Michigan, and Maine. Now what do all
those states have in common. We're not going to look
to Joel Fernans from this one. It didn't go so
wealth the first time. A clear pattern emerges here. All
our border states right positioned along either the northern or

(04:43):
southern edges of the US, and those states tend to
do a lot more business with either their Canada or Mexico,
depending upon that geography. So okay, that's that piece, Where
does Florida fit into the picture?

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Then?

Speaker 2 (04:59):
On import how vulnerable are we to the import side? Well,
you might assume that Florida home to the sixteenth largest
economy in the world global tourism magnet, maybe we'd be vulnerable.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
To these tariffs.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
What do you think, Joel, I think we are less
likely to be vulnerable, and you are right, You are right, sir,
we are less Florida ranks forty seventh in terms of
vulnerability to import tariffs. Only Delaware, Maryland, and New Jersey

(05:31):
are less affected by us. You take a look at
a lot of what goes on with our economy, A
lot of it is domestic based. I mean, you take
a look at our natural beauty and the tourism it attracts.
Obviously that's not a tariff based scenario. You take a
look at even our manufacturing. It's the agriculture, it's medical science,
that type of thing, and a lot of that stays domestic.

(05:53):
So you can kind of look at Florida's being pretty
self sufficient as far as state economies go. All right,
So what about exports? How about the other side of this?
What states are most exposed to the export tariffs?

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Now?

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Well, the states most vulnerable to retaliatory taroffs are in
this order, North Dakota, New Mexico, South Dakota, Michigan, and Missouri.
The only one that really is a lot different than
the others, there's Missouri, and that's their corn exports. Their
corn exports used a lot by particularly in Mexico, but
other countries generally. Florida, by contrasts, we're even less vulnerable

(06:29):
to export terriffs than we are to import tarrio.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
We're forty ninth forty ninth in the country.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Only Hawaii has less exposure to export tariffs, and that
is again because the vast majority of what Florida produces
is domestic in terms of where it goes.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
So what does it all mean for the broader context?

Speaker 2 (06:46):
New Mexico stands out as the most exposed state, Florida
and Maryland tied for the least impacted states in the nation.
Doesn't mean we're obviously going to be entirely immune, but
as immune as any anyway. So one more thing that
you can appreciate about the free state of Florida
