Speaker 1 (00:01):
On the Bulldog Sports Network from Learfield. This is the
Bulldog Football Hour, presented by American pistachio growers, powering the
Valley one nut at a time. Also brought to you
by Table Mountain Casino Resorts, Lucky Days and Epic Nights,
and by Pepsi, official soft drink of Fresno State Athletics.
(00:23):
Now live from the Point Pattio Bar and Pistro, here's
your host, the voice of the Bulldogs, Paul Leffler.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
All right, all right, all right, it's great to be
with you tonight from the Point Patio Bar and Bistro
on a Tuesday night. We're used to doing this every
Wednesday night, but the game's not on a Saturday this week.
It's on a Friday. So we're here on a Tuesday,
and I feel like there's an Abbad and Costello routine
coming here somewhere.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
If any of you are old enough to remember those guys.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Big game this week, Friday night, seven point thirty twenty
fifth year in a row that Fresno State and Nevada
have played.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Do you believe that it's really become a rival?
Speaker 2 (01:00):
I think there ought to be a trophy for this
Sierra showdown from the team on the better side of
the Sierra Nevada to the team on the east side
of those mountains. Fresno State three and two on the
year and Nevada actually three and three. Now Nevada is
three and four on the season. Bulldogs one and one
in conference play the Wolfpack ozhe one. We're gonna talk
(01:21):
all about it tonight with coach Tim Skipper. We're also
going to have senior tight end Jake Bous join us
here on the patio of the Point Patio Bar and Bistro.
It seems like every week when we do this show,
the weather's even better than it was the week before,
and if we could bottle up tonight it would be perfect.
And boy, that chips and salsa looks good right there
(01:41):
with a few halapanos on the side. Saw a salad
and soup over there. The steak bites are coming, the burgers,
the flatbread pizzas, the pad tie. Everything's good here at
the Point, Patiobar and Bistro. So come hang out with
us and you don't have to listen to my voice
all night. We've got some other voices for you. And
to introduces the coach, here's a voice you hear every
(02:01):
home game at Valley Children Stadium.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, please welcome getting ready
to get his team ready against the the Battle Wolfpack
on Friday night, Prime Time seven thirty. The head coach
of your Bulldogs, the one and only Tim.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Skipper, never gets old. That's our public address announcer Matt Lee.
Or you hear him a Valley Children's Stadium, you'll hear
him at the Save Mart Center for Bulldog basketball.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Which is starting up soon.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
November eighth, the first basketball game we had the tip
off dinner last night. Coach George carl was here in
support of Vance Wahlberg. That was a fun one. Coach
Skipper didn't get to be there because he had a
few other things to do.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
A short week.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Do you feel a little extra stress with a short week?
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Be honest with us.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Do you find yourself trying to do too much because
you know you just don't have as much time this week?
I don't know if it's stress.
Speaker 5 (02:58):
I just feel like work and constantly, you know, like
you have to do more to make.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Up for twenty four hours. So it's all part of it.
Speaker 5 (03:07):
You know you're always gonna have this week during the season,
So it's actually kind of exciting because once you play
the game, then you have an extra day on the
back end.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
So can't wait to get to that extra day in
the back end.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
But until then, we got to grind a little bit.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
And sometimes I don't know if this is what you're
experiencing right now, but I think everybody listening and everybody
out here on the patio of the Point patio bar
and b stroke can think of some of those situations
where you know, in that moment, you've got a job
that's a little bit harder than it usually is, and
sometimes that brings people together. It's like, hey, we're all
going through this challenge together.
Speaker 5 (03:36):
Oh yeah, definitely. I mean, that's the whole definition of team.
So we're a team as far as players, as far
as coaches. We come together on game days and those
types of things, but so much goes into getting prepared
for a game. So it's pretty cool to see how
it all comes together.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Sierra Showdown Friday night, seven thirty Fresno State and Nevada.
You have some memories to pop into your head when
you think about this conference rivalry.
Speaker 5 (04:01):
There's a lot. Actually, I'll go all the way back
to when I was playing. I remember, I think it
was nineteen ninety eight that game.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
Man, But.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
There's a lot of stuff. There's no head.
Speaker 5 (04:14):
Yeah, but I remember Derek Ward having a big game
in there, and he was big game as a running back,
and he actually blocked the punt too, and I remember,
as a player, was like, that's pretty impressive to see
somebody be able to do all that. I can remember
us having a very very good day out there, and
then in the fourth quarter Kaepernick came in the game.
They had no idea who that was, and he almost
(04:35):
brought him all the way back. So I remember my
heart pounding for that one. I can remember Ryan Matthews
running like crazy up there when I really was like,
all right, this guy's gonna be a first round pick.
It was at that stadium that day. I was like,
he's a first round NFL running back, and sure enough
he was. So there's a lot of little things that
go into I remember first year back here was at
twenty twenty two. It was freezing cold, and we went
(04:59):
out there. It was a late kick like this one,
and we played really well. So those are some memories
hitting me right now.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
You not only played really well two years ago in
twenty twenty two up there, I believe that Fresno State
clinched a division title that night in Reno ended up
playing for a Mountain West championship and winning a Mountain
West championship, So that was a pretty big step.
Speaker 5 (05:19):
Yes, Yes, and that season, if you remember, it didn't
start out that will and we had to have some
bonding sessions and then we got rolling and we took off,
So it was it was.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
There's a lot of good memories in there, a lot
of good memories in this rivalry.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
You mentioned Ryan Matthews.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
I remember that game you're talking about, and some people
might want to know that next month he'll be enshrined
in the Fresno Athletic Hall of Fame. So if you
want to attend that ceremony November twenty first, I believe
the Fresnoeck County Athletic Hall of Fame, Mister Ryan Matthews,
going into that, what were you going to say about
that ninety eight game, because all I remember was you
guys were supposed to win that game, and a guy
(05:57):
that I used to play against in high school, Don Morgan,
had a big game for Nevada and helped beat you guys.
Speaker 5 (06:02):
Yeah, I was gonna start with a bad moment and
move into the goods. So I wasn't gonna say anything.
It was just one of those days.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Uh okay, faugh, fair enough.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
You cut me off. That was done. See, that's that's
why I need to keep my mouth shut and let
you talk. Well, maybe we'll get that one off there.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Maybe.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
Now he's coach Tim Skipper, he's here till well, he's
going to be hanging out till seven o'clock, whether he's
on the air or hanging out with you. Come order
what you want from the point. You have a chance
to win some T shirts tonight. We've got I think
at least five of these Bulldog T shirts that we're
going to be giving away to the folks who come
to join us.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
If you've got a.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Question for coach or for tight end Jake Boust, who's
going to join us shortly, you can send it our
way on the x app or maybe you still call
it Twitter, whatever you call it, use the hashtag ask
FS and we'll get your question to the coach. Or
did Jake Boust talk about that twenty five years in
a row that Fresno State and Nevada played each other.
The rivalry actually goes back over one hundred years and
(06:57):
there's been some doozies throughout the years. But I hadn't
even thought of this until I was reading the notes
that you're outstanding. Sports information director Savannah Stokol put together
that we don't know when Fresno State and Nevada are
going to play again. This may be the last trip
to Reno for a while because of conference changes. Yeah,
I mean football, college football.
Speaker 5 (07:18):
The landscape is completely changing, So I think this is
just the first of many. I think a lot of
things are changing. We'll see how it goes. It's kind
of sad because we've always been battling and kind of
used to each other.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
So we'll see where it goes.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
Maybe something will work out and then we end up
playing again every year, so who knows?
Speaker 2 (07:34):
Who knows? And you guys have played one altitude game
already this year in Albuquerque, which is about thirteen hundred
feet higher than the stadium and Reno, and you had
some pretty windy conditions early in that game, but you
haven't played a really cold game yet.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
And this is seven.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
Thirty on a Friday, night game time attempts probably gonna
be somewhere in the forties, probably going to drop into
the thirties before the game's over. Anything you guys can
do to prepare for that. This team hasn't encountered that
yet this year.
Speaker 5 (08:02):
It's all in mindset. Actually covered that with the team Sunday.
We talked about that, and uh, bottom line, when we
get there, it's time to go play.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
So I don't care what the weather is.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
We're not gonna wear fur coats or any of that
type of stuff or have some special fur gloves or anything.
We're gonna go play ball. So the only thing approval
is some tights and some long sleeves.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
That's it.
Speaker 5 (08:23):
Rather other than that, we're gonna go play.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Are you going full Pat Hill? No heaters all out
on the sideline as our No, we're not gonna do that.
We're gonna be a little bit more twenty twenty before.
But nah, nope. I love that though it was. It
was awesome to have it like that. Now, I gotta
ask you since we got on that and for those
of you who don't know, Coach Skipper came in as
a player under coach Sweeney continued, he was one of
(08:47):
the real leaders of Pat Hill's early teams at Fresno State,
then coached under coach Hill under coach Tedford.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
Now he's the interim head coach.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
Were there some games where you guys wanted heaters or
missed or fans or something like that.
Speaker 5 (09:01):
You were kind of mad that Coachill wouldn't let you
have them, Probably all of them that were cold.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
But he made a point.
Speaker 5 (09:07):
He didn't want to hear anything about it, like you
couldn't even bring it up. So it was just set
in our mindset knowing and it's not cold out here.
We have to have that mentality. And he made his
point and he stuck to it. That's for sure.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
There was none of that stuff. He made his point
back then. And we're at the point tonight. The point
Patti o'barn Bistro, northwest corner of Willow and Knees, brought
to you tonight by thirty two Below Ice, the official
ice provider of Fresno State Athletics.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Speaking of cold.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
We're going to talk about the matchup with Nevada in
a little bit, But I know you're frustrated. Fans are
frustrated with the result. The other night, because there's a
really good Washington State team that's five and one, that's
been getting votes in the national rankings, really high powered
offense ranked in the top ten nationally with what they
were doing coming in, and your defense held them to
twenty five points. Well held him the less than that
(09:57):
because the last points were on a pick six, But
it was a winnable game that didn't get won by
the Bulldogs.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
How did you try to process that with the team.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
What do you want to say to the folks out
here on the patio and those listening about what they
can expect moving forward and how you can turn a frustrating,
disappointing game in front of a sold out crowd into
something that helps your team grow.
Speaker 5 (10:18):
Yeah, definitely frustrating game because if you watch the film,
in a lot of ways, you think we won the game.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
That's the most frustrating thing.
Speaker 5 (10:26):
Usually when you lose, you're like, all right, this, this
and this, I see why, and then you have to
dissect it again. So I actually watched it three times
between when I talked to the team and when the
game ended, and it came down to about four or
five plays that really decided the game. They we had
two turnovers. They had two turnovers. We didn't score off
of their turnovers. They scored six off of ours, so
(10:48):
that was a big thing. The other thing was the
penalty battle, which breaks my heart.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
We doubled our penalty count, so we had thirteen penalties
in that game.
Speaker 5 (10:56):
They had like five, so and a lot of ours,
which I call stupid penalties, play penalties after the play happened,
so we had three of those. So there's a yardist
differentential there and it changed the field position battle, so
that was huge. And then there's a couple of little
plays that happened. We misjudged the kickoffs and put the
ball on the one Like little things like that that
(11:17):
you don't think are significant end up adding up. So
we'll get that stuff corrected. We're gonna continue to keep
getting turnovers. We gotta keep the ball, we gotta protect
the ball, and we'll be fine. But I will say
this to everybody. Our spirits are up in our building,
So keep your spirits up. We're gonna keep playing ball.
We're gonna keep working, we're gonna keep grinding. Nothing has changed,
(11:37):
to be honest with you. If we were undefeated right now,
we still need to win these conference games, so nothing's
changed as far as our agenda goes. We need to
be one to know each entire week and we'll be fine.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
We're ready to go.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
Motivated kids in that locker room.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
I hear a lot of ears reacting positively to those
words from coach Tim Skipper. Here at the Point, Pattiobar
and Bestrive got a follow up question on that penalty.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
We'll get to and we come back.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
If you've got a question for the coach, you can
write it on a slip of paper here. That's how
you're going to enter to win too. Write your name
down on a little piece of paper. We'll draw some
winners out of the hat at the end of the night.
We've got t shirts to give away. But if you'd
like to send a question in and you can't be here,
use that x app and the hashtag ask fs back
with Coach Tim Skipper. Jake Baussenior tight End coming up later.
We're here at the Point Patio Bar and Bistro on
(12:23):
a Tuesday night because game is coming Friday. Come hang
out with us. The weather is perfect and the food
is fantastic. It's the Bulldog Football Hour on the Bulldog
Sports Network from their field.

Welcome back to the Bulldogs Football Hour.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
We're here at the Point Patiobar and Bistro on a
Tuesday night because the Bulldogs play a night early this week.
On Friday night, seven thirty kick Friday from the biggest
little city in the world. Our pregame coverage will come
your way at five thirty. And I'm glad everybody got
the memo because we've got a great turnout out here
on the patio tonight and joined some fantastic food from
the Point patio bar and bi straw. I'm trying to
(16:04):
see what that is over there, looking pretty good. I
did see the beat salad over there. The Glen's eating
the beat salad here. Can't be beat. They have a
great wedge too. You can sorry, you can throw some
fresh holopanos on there if you really want to be adventurous.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
You sticking to your usual.
Speaker 5 (16:20):
Their coach always the usual never changes, and that's chicken wings, yep,
and wedge salad.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
See there you go.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
Doesn't change, doesn't change, doesn't change. Fresno State in Nevada,
the matchup Friday. That's what we call the Trip Ahead,
presented by Golden Eagle Charter, the preferred motor coach and
executive transportation service with Presno State Athletics. That trip. I
don't know, maybe some of these folks here are driving
that trip. You guys will be flying it. But you've
made that bus ride before, haven't. Yeah, made it with
(16:49):
coach Ill many of times.
Speaker 5 (16:52):
I've made it where we had to hope and pray
we could get over the pass over there.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
So it's an interesting drive. So I'm happy to be flying.
It's a quick flight. You go right over Yosemite every time.
It's really nice.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
You don't have a window seat, though, do you.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
I don't.
Speaker 5 (17:06):
I mean I could if I wanted to. I just
choose not to. I'm in aisle, I'm telling you. I
mean usually they just fly right over Yosemite Valley. You
got half them right here, el cap over there. I
love that foot look at it. Yeah, take in the scenery.
Well you can't.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
Before we get into this matchup with Nevada.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
I did want to follow up with you because you
your words stupid penalties and you define those as the
ones that come after the play, right especially you made
a great play and there was probably the most impactful
plan of lead of the game. One of your guys
made a great play. It's gonna be third and twenty seven.
They're likely going to have to punt you the football
and you're gonna have a chance to score before halftime.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
Then get it first in the second half.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
But then he stood over the player barked a little
bit fifteen yards automatic first down, and there were a
few of them like that. So when it comes to
eliminating those, I know you'd love to wave a magic
wand but how do you.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
Get that through to them? Important?
Speaker 2 (18:00):
That is what can you guys as a coaching staff
do to ensure that those kind of things don't happen.
Speaker 5 (18:05):
There's a couple of things we do. I mean, it's
really simple. It comes down to critiquing it and then
demanding it. So we critiqued all during training camp. We're
showing all these different scenarios, NFL stuff, high school stuff,
college stuff, stuff that had us on the film, like everything.
We just show a whole bunch of stuff, right, So
you handle that and the obviously the year kind of
went and we didn't have many penalties, and then as
(18:27):
it's gone, we're starting to have it. So a little
bit on me of not just staying on the guys
and demanding of them all the time, you know. But
I will say this, when we finished that game, we
had our meeting Sunday, it was it was quiet.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Jake can attest to it.
Speaker 5 (18:42):
It was a real quiet room, and we had to
answer questions for what we were doing.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
And it's a mindset.
Speaker 5 (18:48):
And like I always say, you cannot get emotionally hijacked.
You cannot get emotionally hijacked. You can't make a play
and do something stupid. You can't mess up a play
and do something stupid. You have to stay even keel
and that's before the play, that's during the play, that's.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
After the play.
Speaker 5 (19:05):
At all times you have to be on point. And
as soon as you slip up, that's when the penalties happened.
So we addressed it. We don't practice that way. So
we make sure we were watching practice real close, make
sure nothing crazy happening, and we'll just keep building and
we'll keep on demanding and we'll.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
Be fine, you know.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
And as I hear you say that, I'm thinking back
to when you were a player and you kind of
had a reputation of being an extra coach on the field,
that you would bring out something in your teammates and
you would hold teammates accountable.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
And I'm wondering with that dynamic of the penalties.
Speaker 9 (19:36):
You know.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
The other thing that comes to mind. You were talking about.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
The game there in Reno when you guys knock out
their quarterback and here comes this Spindley Lake freshman from
Turlock who starts taking over the game, Colin Kaepernick. But
the reason, one of the reasons you guys had a
huge lead was Clifton Smith was going off that night.
When Clifton Smith played here, there was a rule that
the rest of the guys on special teams had to
tackle him before he pulled up his jersey to show
(19:59):
his his little batman thing. And so I'm wondering, is
there's something in that if you had a player or
two step up and say, you know what, I'm gonna
be the police man. I'm gonna hold my teammates accountable
to not get those kind of penalties.
Speaker 5 (20:12):
Definitely, it's always, uh we'll say, for the sake of
radio friendly reminders that you could say to them on
the field. That always seems to work when your peers
are getting on you. So that's part of it. Also,
is each other held each other accountable too, So definitely
things you can do. I don't think we're at the
drastic Clifton Smith point where we got to go tackle people,
(20:33):
but that was a true story and it was it
was mandated, So hopefully we don't get to that point.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
Amen to that.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
You know I keep saying I'm gonna get to the
matchup with Nevada.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
But another thing that I think we should hit on
before that.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
As we give you our practice update, brought to you
by Pepsi, the official soft drink of Fresno State Athletics,
the health status of this team, because you know there
have been a few curveballs with that. You're still wait
for one of your most talented offensive linemen, Jacob Spoemer,
to get healthy. You just got Edward Fenua back on
the old line, Moss says, missed a game now, Malik
(21:09):
Sharad might be missing a few games. And Josiah Freeman,
who just got healthy, made a great play for a
touchdown in this game.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
He's gonna be out for a while.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
What do you want to say to the fans about
where you guys are health wise and how the team
responds to stuff like that? Yeah, I mean just bad luck.
I really don't.
Speaker 5 (21:26):
The one game where we were kind of clean getting
out of was Michigan, which you would think would be opposite.
You know, everybody's all you're playing this bigger school and
all that you're gonna get guys hurt. We really didn't
in that game, and then all of a sudden, it
seems like every single game somebody's been out, somebody that's
a significant playmaker, whether it's on.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
Offense or defense or whatever what have you.
Speaker 5 (21:44):
So hopefully our luck turns in that aspect of the
game and we can keep some guys a little bit
more healthy, because it's not only what you see.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
On the game day, but it changes how we practice.
It completely changes.
Speaker 5 (21:56):
And now some of the guys that are were scout
team guys that weren't get as many reps, now they
have to step up, which coach, you'll always started to
pick up the flag.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
We still kind of keep that going.
Speaker 5 (22:06):
We just I will say this football is a violent sport.
We all know and that things can happen that aren't
good as far as injuries go. But the next guy up.
That's why we practice, that's why there's so many guys
on the team. That's why when it happens, you're not surprised.
You have to be ready to go, and the next
guy up has to pick up the slack for the
(22:26):
guys that got injured, and hopefully we get some of
the guys that got injured back. It's not season ending injuries,
and we just keep on rolling, but we know as
part of it, so we're ready for these type of situations.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
And the Dogs looking to get ready for a much
improved Nevada squad on Friday night, seven thirty, kickoff against
a three and four Wolfpack team that's coming off a
big home win over Oregon State, a result that surprised
a few people. We'll talk about their running back, Saveon Red,
who I've had four touchdowns the other night against the Bees,
but I want to talk about your running back, Elijah Gilliam.
(22:59):
You mentioned a name there, Derek Ward, from back in
your playing days, and I'm not gonna put Elijah on
that barometer because that's unfair.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
Derek Ward was kind of a freak.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
To be that big and be able to move that well,
and that's why he became a thousand yard rusher in
the NFL. But Elijah's probably the biggest back we've seen
featured in a game in a while at Fresno State,
and he's a lot more nimble than people realize.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
What were you most impressed by.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
In a game that he did carry at one hundred
or twenty times for one hundred and twenty yards and
a touchdown, and maybe more impressively to me, picked up
a number of Blitzer's screaming, well, really good Yob. To
throw names out there, the guy that.
Speaker 5 (23:38):
Comes to my mind is Jamie Kimbro. I think they're
very similar, very very similar. Elijah sticks out a little
bit because he's bigger than the other guys, but the
other guys are really really smaller guys because he's not
really a big big guy, but he's way bigger than those.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
Guys, so he sticks out in that way. But man,
is he tough.
Speaker 5 (23:57):
The thing I really really appreciate about him is he's
been way his opportunity and once he finally had his opportunity,
he took advantage of that thing, and just very proud
of him. He can do it all. He can block,
he can run, he can catch, so we can trust him.
We line him up in empty he runs routes like
we do a lot of stuff with him. So it's
really good to see him take advantage of his opportunity
and have a.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
Very good day.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
It was good to watch, and your offensive coordinator Pat
McCann said something yesterday that the plan going in was
to rotate backs more and get Bryce and Donaldson some
more carries, maybe get.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
Arsono or Rivers involved.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
But Elijah had such a hot hand, you guys just
wanted to keep feeding him. Is there anything that you're
looking for that you haven't seen yet in the run
game that maybe this game presents an opportunity to do?
It's not necessarily the game's just consistency.
Speaker 5 (24:45):
We need to consistently keep running it because we can't
just sit back there and just throw it all game,
you know. So, and when you can run it effectively,
that means you're winning in the trenches, which is setting
Bulldog football the way we want it for each entire game.
So I just think the magic word would be consistency.
I just want consistency. We should be able to say
every single game we establish the run game. That's what
we want. That's our goal, and we need to accomplish
(25:06):
that in order to be successful. So consistency is going
to be the way I would answer that question.
Speaker 2 (25:11):

Speaker 2 (29:00):
We're here at the Point Patio Bar and Bistro on
a Tuesday night because the Bulldogs are playing on Friday night,
seven thirty Friday, the latest installment of the Sierra Showdown
between Fresno State and the University of Nevada. And if
you are looking for something to do Tomorrow night, since
we won't be out here on the patio of the
Point Patio Bar and Bistro, I'd love to have you
join us at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport to welcome
(29:22):
home our.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
Thirtieth Central Valley Honor Flight.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
Quite a few Fresno State grads on that flight met
a gentleman named Terry Walton, whose grandson is.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
Going to be playing for you next year.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
Coach Skip Braydon Walton, if you can and high big
offensive tackle. His dad, Kurt played at Fresno State as well,
and Terry wanted to play for Fresno State. Ended up
in the Air Force over in Vietnam, but did tell
me that he won three Pig Bowls playing for the
Fresno County Sheriff's Department against the Fresno Police Department. That
(29:53):
counts had a lot of Fresno State stories on that
honor flight, but we're talking football here tonight, and coach,
thanks for coming out last month when the honor flight
came in. It always means a lot to the Vets
to see people like you there. Oh absolutely, it was fun.
I recommend everybody do that. Let's big time tomorrow night,
playing a land around six. We'll start our program there
five point thirty if you want to join us. We're
brought to you tonight here at the Point by American
(30:14):
Pistachio Growers, powering the Valley one nut at a time.
We thank the American Pistachio Growers for their continued support
of Fresno State Athletics and for being the presenting sponsors
of our show tonight, Fresno State in Nevada. I know
this isn't at the top of your list, coach, with
all the priorities that you have, especially on a short week,
but the intensity that this rivalry has carried for the
(30:38):
last quarter century, there really should be a rivalry trophy,
shouldn't they.
Speaker 5 (30:42):
That'd be awesome. Yeah, maybe we can start one with
the last game.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Right, and then if it ever gets renewed. Yeah, I
mean I always thought it was a no brainer. We're
on this side of the Sierra there on that side,
why don't we just have mountains that are half silver
for the Silver State, half golden for the Golden State,
and there's somebody on top that could swing to either
side depending on who wins. I agree with you. I
agree with you.
Speaker 5 (31:02):
You can start that thing, put your name on it,
all right, and we'll just try to keep it on
the gold side every year.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
A pretty good deal, bring it to the show. So
in order to make that happen this year, you're gonna
have to stop Nevada's momentum. They had a big win
over Oregon State and their offense. I mean, you're looking
for consistency, so were they, But they had probably their
best game yet against Oregon. They've got a dual threat
(31:27):
quarterback who can really run the football. And this Texas transfer,
Savon Red really went off against the Beavers.
Speaker 3 (31:34):
He's not a little.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
Guy, not at all.
Speaker 5 (31:37):
It looks to me like they just made a commitment
to say, look, we're gonna out physical these guys. We're
gonna run the ball and we're gonna keep on doing
it until they stop us. And they had I think
it was three hundred and fifty three yards in the
game on the ground and only like sixty seventy eight throwing.
So we definitely are getting ready for a fistfight, that
is for sure. It's gonna be a battle. We're gonna
(31:58):
have to be ready to go in. The most team
will win.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
And that's kind of a challenge to your team, isn't it.
I mean, you're that's kind of ringing the bell and
hoping the answer. Oh yeah, oh yeah, it's.
Speaker 5 (32:09):
It's one of those challenges where you don't want to
wait to get beat up before you start fighting back,
so you have to be ready to start the fight.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
It's one of them challenges.
Speaker 2 (32:17):
And you know, after that game, Nevada's offense really stood out.
It was forty two to thirty seven was the final score,
but their defense had a hand in that too. You
guys are twelfth in the country in takeaways after getting
two more of them on Saturday, including one of the
craziest interceptions I've ever seen.
Speaker 5 (32:33):
I still don't know how Dan Clark did that. Do
you w on the flip. I didn't think he caught it.
I just thought he knocked it down.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
Then he says, interception. Yeah, it's crazy. We had picture.
Speaker 5 (32:42):
We actually showed a team the picture of him catching
it too, because he's going to be one of our
captains for the game this week, so it's pretty cool
to catch him mid air and see how he just
flipped all the way around with the ball and it
was one of his teammates that actually ended up flipping him.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
I think, right, that's what the collision was with kind.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
Of help flip him. Yeah, put it that way, it
was and a Clifton Smith front flip into the end,
So I'm not not one of those freestyle f lips.
One of the greatest examples of body control of we've
seen from Dean Clark with.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
That pick the other night.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
So you guys are top twelve in the country and takeaways.
But Nevada the wolf Back defense puts some points on
the board Saturday against the Beefs. Yeah, they're really good, man,
really good.
Speaker 5 (33:21):
They had to pick six at a valuable time in
the game, so they make a lot of big plays.
The thing they do the best though, when teams get
in the red area, they force them to kick. They
don't give up many touchdowns, so that's gonna be something.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
We're gonna have to work on.
Speaker 5 (33:35):
We've got to make sure we put the ball in
the end zone, so that's an emphasis for us.
Speaker 3 (33:40):
So coach Tim Skipper is here for a few more minutes.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
We're gonna let him enjoy his chicken wings and his
wedge salad, the Skipper Special here at the Point Patio
Bar and Bistro. But we're also gonna welcome on a
senior on this Bulldog football team, and we got to
give him a proper introduction. So we're going to bring
back the Voice of Valley Children Stadium.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
I'm the Save Mart Center for men's.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
Basketball and volleyball, the one and only Matt Lee Avern
and I'm gonna see if Matt can roll with me here.
You know, if you hear us talk about our sponsored
table Mountain Casino Resort on one of our broadcasts, it's
always Pat Hill who says an epic night.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
So we'll see if worm can handle that for us.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
Tonight's Bulldog Football Hour is brought to you by a
table mountain casino resort. Have a lucky day followed by
epic night only a table mountain casino resort. Pat says
it with a little more flair, but you save your
your flair for the introduction. We've got another bulldog football
player here tonight. Matt Leeaver tell us who it.
Speaker 4 (34:33):
Is, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, whether he is
blocking for a tailback or going over the middle for
a catch in the red zone. Number eighty six in
your program, number one in your heart, especially at this
table I'm staring at right here, Ladies and gentlemen, prieze
welcome tight end number eighty six.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
Jacob Boucet, Well done, well done, So step right up, Jake.
And as he's getting the headset there, Coach Skipper, what's
one thing you've appreciated about a guy I know has
really paid his dues in this program?
Speaker 5 (35:05):
Oh definitely. And I can't keep it at one. There's
no way, not even possible. But this is a very
tough dude right here.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
I'll say that. I'll start with that, and I don't
say that lightly.
Speaker 5 (35:14):
Very tough guy right here. He'll value you, he'll fight
you to the end. He has his degree already. NBA program,
right yeah, NBA program. That's also a major plus.
Speaker 3 (35:24):
But this is.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
Where I will end it.
Speaker 5 (35:26):
Okay, So Coach Baxter, our special teams coordinator since I
was playing, since I was playing every special team so
that it was kick off, kickoff, return, whatever. He has
tips that we have to memorize, and usually the guys
have to memorize one team and that's what you're kind
of expecting, and he doesn't tell you if he's gonna
pick you or whatever.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
So the first time.
Speaker 5 (35:44):
In the history of doing the tips, he picked Jake
to do five of them, okay, five of them, and
he nailed them without even breathing, Like he knocked them
all out, which is the most impressive thing I've ever
seen a guy do in a meeting room. He memorized,
he wasn't reading anything thing and he just hammered it out.
So kudos to youth. I've already told him a thousand
(36:04):
times it was great. Tell you one last time.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
This is it. Great job with that.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
I know you just.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
Said this is it, but I've got to follow up
here a little bit. So when you say five of them,
you mean like he knew it for punt cover, punt return,
kick return, kick cover, extra points at my points. Yep, exactly.
Speaker 5 (36:22):
And it's like five or five different teams, five different
teams probably, what would you say, from fifty to eighty
words per team?
Speaker 2 (36:29):
Yeah, fifty to eighty words per team. Yeah, Jake, you
might need to move that a little close to your mouth,
just so we make sure we hear you there. So,
I mean, if Coach Baxter put you on the spot
and you nailed five of them, you should be able
to give us at least like one of them, right, Yeah, exactly, right,
great the last game, right, I mean for the last.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
Game they carry over?
Speaker 14 (36:50):
Yeah? Maybe.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
Okay, we don't want to give away any secrets.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
It's not talking normal, it's talking football.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
Yep. Okay, all right, we'll let it go.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
But speaking of special teams, this is something I've actually
been wondering about. So, you know, Coach Skipper, when you
played Coach Baxter and Coach Hill, they had this thing
where you're supposed to be the hammer on special teams,
So then the sledgehammer became the representation of that. And
if you made a big play on special teams, you
actually got to run down the ramp with the hammer,
which I know you did at least once.
Speaker 5 (37:20):
I even won the big hammer. You might not know
about the big hammer. That was from a hit in
New Mexico. So if you knock somebody and back in
the day this was legal. Yeah, they didn't get up,
they didn't get up, you could get the big hammer.
So you can't do that, Jake, just high screen. But
I won the big hammer because somebody didn't get up.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
But then there was the regular sledge hammer, which is
no joke, Jake. Have you ever swung a sledgehammer?
Speaker 14 (37:44):
Yes? I have. Feels good, just on a tire, but yeah,
it feels not overhead.
Speaker 3 (37:48):
Oh that's the best.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
When you're swinging around like this, then you really smash
something you gotta go do. I mean, the fair just ended,
I guess, but you know it's a great trick with
the fair too, to impress you know, your girlfriend or whoever.
So then Boise State said, you know, we're gonna do
a hammer. A couple of years ago, we're in the
press box and the broadcast booth in Boise and camp Morell,
who doesn't exactly love Boise State. I'll just put it
(38:11):
like that, he sees that their sledge hammer is sitting
in our visitors radio.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
Booth in Boise.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
No way, he was really tempted to destroy that thing.
I think that was coincidence.
Speaker 3 (38:23):
It's still there.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
No sledgehammers were harmed that day, but Coach Baxter told
me he still has the sledgehammer. Oh, we have it.
We have it, and he's just waiting for a player
to say, Hey, what's the deal with that hammer? Can
somebody run out.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
There with it?
Speaker 5 (38:38):
So he's actually giving it out a couple times this year,
right twice, I think tice he's giving out twice. But
we haven't ran out with it yet for whatever reason.
I don't know why we haven't, but that's come. I
think the guys have left it into the locker and
forgot about it. So we're gonna get that done.
Speaker 2 (38:53):
What do you think, Jake, how cool would that be
if you had the privilege of running down the ramp
of Valley Children's Stadium holding that sledgehammer up for everybody.
Speaker 14 (38:59):
Sece that would be I mean, I didn't even know
that was the thing.
Speaker 15 (39:01):
I didn't know. Guys ran down with it. We don't
really do that anymore. We definitely should bring that. That
would be awesome.
Speaker 2 (39:06):
Well, maybe i'll have coach backstro I'll ask you tomorrow.
All right, what are you getting to eat tonight at
the point, By the way.
Speaker 14 (39:12):
I got the salmon? Something light?
Speaker 3 (39:15):
You know, something light?
Speaker 2 (39:16):
Yeah, Coach Q does the basketball games with us. He says,
Salmon's good for your brain. He says, that's brain food. Well,
there you go, hey, coach skip before we let you
go eat those chicken wings and wedge salad here at
the Point patio Bar and bistro. You have any questions
you want to ask Jake in front of his multiple
generations of his family and all the other people out
(39:37):
here on the patio, put me on the spot.
Speaker 5 (39:40):
Once you do this, explain to everybody, including your family,
the difference between a normal week when we have the
seven days between the games and then now we're six
days between the game.
Speaker 2 (39:51):
Kind of tell them about.
Speaker 5 (39:52):
How your body feels, how you get your body ready,
how you have to learn so much more as far
as the game plan, just your experience with it. Because
you've been here a while and you've done this, so
kind of let them know the enters of that.
Speaker 15 (40:04):
Yeah, everything's pretty much just sped up. Whereas before some
days or more split out. We'd have to combine certain
days and do you know, multiple things in one day
that would normally be on separate days. But it's really
just a mindset of the date's not going to change.
The date of the game is not going to change,
so you know, we got to be ready for everything.
Speaker 2 (40:26):
Hopefully the day of the gate doesn't change. If it does,
that means something really crazy happens. It doesn't happen very often. Well,
you know, I think I just stumbled onto something. Don't
you guys think Coach Skipper would do great if I
just disappeared and he asked the questions because that question
was better than mine.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
No way, but Coach will let you.
Speaker 2 (40:42):
Enjoy the rest of the night with the fans out here.
Thanks for hanging out, good luck on Friday. Thank you
appreciate it. Go dogs, keep sharing and we'll be right
back more with Jake Bause and your tight end. If

Speaker 3 (44:07):
Go dogs receivers. Either way, we're gonna bring five.
Speaker 2 (44:14):
It looks like Javinsky schlenden Baker in the backfield with
Matier who operating out of the gun on third and
eight dogs, do you bring the blitz?
Speaker 3 (44:21):
Matiar throwing for the sisode.
Speaker 2 (44:23):
Pick and what we got?
Speaker 14 (44:25):
Interception?
Speaker 2 (44:26):
Are you kidding me?
Speaker 16 (44:28):
Dean Clark from the air started in front of Kyle
Williams Contes flipped head over heels. He looked like a
pinwheel spinning to the sideline. An acrobatic pick for Dean
Clark to deny the Cougars.
Speaker 9 (44:43):
Wow, what a play and we and we brought six there.
Speaker 3 (44:46):
That's good.
Speaker 9 (44:47):
Brought a little pressure, made him speed that pass up
a little bit.
Speaker 2 (44:50):
And if Dean Clark hadn't gotten his hands down in
bounds there, it would have been out of bounds incomplete.
He's flipping head over heels and Cam I don't know
if you've ever made that play and how hard that
is to do. But he got his gloves down in
bounds before his whole body tumbled out a mouse.
Speaker 17 (45:06):
I was not athletic enough to make a play like
that no, I could come out of the middle of
the field and get there, but not that that was
exceptional from Dean Clark. What a play to send Washington
State away on that possession with no points. Oh what
that was a fantastic play from Dean Clark.
Speaker 2 (45:23):
They got themselves completely out of sync. Pat Hill at
Cam Worrell. Nobody breaks it down like those guys. You'll
hear more of Pats Atalyss Friday night, seven thirty when
the Bulldogs take on Nevada in Reno. Cam's gonna miss
this game, but we'll have former Bulldog offensive lineman Kenny
Wiggins staying warm on the sidelines. We've got tight end
Jake Boust with us here at the point patio bar
(45:43):
and Bistro here till seven o'clock. We'll give away some
T shirts at that point. And Jake, I understand, I
just learned this tonight.
Speaker 14 (45:50):
Now.
Speaker 2 (45:51):
I know you're working on your master's in Business administration
of Fresno State. You've already got a kinesiology degree. But
I heard you got a really cool birthday present on
your seventeenth birthday.
Speaker 14 (46:03):
Absolutely, you're sitting right here next to me.
Speaker 3 (46:05):
Who's sitting next to you?
Speaker 14 (46:06):
My little brother Wyatt. Say what's up, dude? Sup?
Speaker 2 (46:11):
So you and Wyatt have the same birthday August twenty fifth, eighteen.
Speaker 3 (46:16):
For this guy, that's pretty awesome.
Speaker 2 (46:18):
Yep. Whyatt, you can put that headset on if you
want to talk to us. You don't have to, though. Uh,
when you see Wyatt running around this kidden garden, buttons, buddies,
you bring back any young memories for you?
Speaker 14 (46:31):
Absolutely? You know that was a long time ago. But
you know, if.
Speaker 15 (46:35):
I I won't give him some you know, life advice,
but he probably wouldn't understand it very well.
Speaker 14 (46:40):
So I'll say that for later.
Speaker 2 (46:43):
Plenty of years to come. But they do go by quickly.
And I'm sure you know, as you look at halfway
through your last year in a Bulldog uniform, these years
are probably gone by pretty quickly.
Speaker 14 (46:54):
Oh man.
Speaker 2 (46:55):
Yeah, what's the biggest difference when you see in the
mirror number eighty six, not the jersey that Wyatt's went
right now, because that's a little small for you.
Speaker 3 (47:01):
Now that eighty six you look good.
Speaker 2 (47:03):
Way when you look at eighty six in the mirror,
what's the biggest difference you see between the guy who
came to Fresno state a few years ago.
Speaker 14 (47:10):
Really, it's the knowledge and.
Speaker 15 (47:12):
The things I've learned since being in this program I'll
carry with me for the rest of my life. And
the people I know and the people that I know
have my back now. It's, you know, completely different than
where I was four years ago.
Speaker 2 (47:28):
That's pretty cool. I think that's a pretty good answer,
isn't it. You would love to have every Bulldog football
player have a comment like that. And I know for
you guys, last year, you know you're in position to
compete for a conference championship. You hit the losing streak,
but then you go to that bowl game and Coach
Skipper comes in, fires you up, rallies you together, you
win the bowl game, and here you are still, you know,
(47:49):
in contention this year in the Mountain West. What have
you appreciated the most about Coach Skipper since he's become
the skipper of the ship, so to speak.
Speaker 15 (47:58):
Yeah, number one thing that comes of mine. He's just
brought the energy for all of us and he gets
us going pre game every morning in our team meetings,
he's there getting us juiced up for practice and it
gets us just really excited to play for him.
Speaker 2 (48:14):
Have you ever been around him more than thirty seconds
without seeing him smile.
Speaker 14 (48:18):
Absolutely not.
Speaker 15 (48:19):
He's always got a smile on his face, and he's always,
you know, bringing that energy for us.
Speaker 2 (48:24):
See that's what I was wondering, because sometimes a coach
has to get a little mad and get his point across,
and sometimes it seems like he's still smiling even when
he's mad.
Speaker 14 (48:32):
Yeah. Well, I mean that's just the kind of guy
he is.
Speaker 15 (48:34):
He's always having a great time and it rubs off
on his players and we're all having a great time
as well.
Speaker 2 (48:41):
So this game with Nevada, you guys are one and
one in the Mountain West. I mean, you're still if
you just need basically one team to lose one other
game and you'll have a chance at a championship if
you take care of your own business. When you look
at Nevada and this rivalry, we were talking earlier about
how two years ago you guys won the division with
that aim up there in Reno, I've always thought, whether
(49:02):
it's football, basketball, baseball, the sports I get to do,
there seems to be like a little extra edge, a
little intensity when it's Fresno State and Nevada. I'm sure
you respect those guys. Yeah, it kind of feels sometimes
like the Dogs and wolf Pack don't really like each
other all that much.
Speaker 15 (49:18):
Yeah, but I think it definitely comes from a respect standpoint.
Every time we play them. It's a tough game and
it's a physical game, and we're expecting that this week
as well. So, you know, we don't necessarily like anybody
we go against, but there's always a respect aspect as well.
Speaker 2 (49:34):
And when you heard Coach Skipper say a little while
ago that this game was gonna come down to.
Speaker 3 (49:40):
A battle of who could out physical the other. Yeah,
how does that make you feel?
Speaker 15 (49:47):
You know, like everything else he says, it fires me
up and gets us, you know, really excited to play,
especially on a short week. We don't see it as
a burden at all. We see it as an opportunity to,
you know, show up.
Speaker 2 (50:01):
Does your little brother Wyatt test your physicality at all?
Is you have her like a blindside with a crushing hit?
Speaker 14 (50:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 15 (50:06):
Every time I go home, he's always looking for a
wrestling match. But yeah, I never really let him win either.
Speaker 3 (50:13):
It's good for him Belt's character.
Speaker 14 (50:15):
Oh yeah, Well.
Speaker 2 (50:16):

Welcome back to the Bulldog Football Hour.
Speaker 2 (53:36):
We've got a few more minutes here with Jake Bous
Bulldog Senior tight end, thanks again to coach Tim Skipper.
The hour always goes by way too quickly out here
at the Point Patio Bar and Bistro. Next week we'll
be back to our normal night of Wednesday nights. We
look forward to seeing you a week from tomorrow here
on the patio from six to seven. And again we'd
love to see at the airport tomorrow to welcome home
seventy Valley veterans from their honor flight to Washington, DC,
(54:00):
including several Bulldog grads and even one former Fresno State
student athlete. I wonder if Wyatt could guess what sport
this guy played. No, you'll never guess. We'd run out
of time. He was on the Fresno State rodeo team
and competed in the national College Finals for Fresno State
after serving in the Navy and the Vietnam War. Guy
named Joseph Ventrees. You can welcome him and the rest
(54:22):
of those vets home tomorrow night at the airport. But
tonight we're talking football at the Point and we've got
Jake Boust, and I think there's at least one table
here that's been waiting all season for number eighty.
Speaker 3 (54:32):
Six to get the call.
Speaker 2 (54:34):
Jake, who all do you have with you here tonight?
Speaker 14 (54:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 15 (54:37):
I got my grandfather, grandmother, mom and dad, and a
couple family friends who are very close to our hearts.
Speaker 3 (54:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 15 (54:45):
I just want to say, like these the people at
this table, you know, I'm so happy that they're here tonight.
And I definitely couldn't have, you know, accomplished what I've
accomplished and been here without them.
Speaker 14 (54:54):
So love you guys.
Speaker 2 (54:58):
Looks like the feeling is mutual. Yeah, but Wyatt didn't
say anything. Yeah, he thinks so too. So we talked
about it. I mean, you're working on a master's degree
of Fresno State when you were coming out of Sanger
High School? Was this a realistic dream for you? Did
you see this happening?
Speaker 14 (55:15):
Absolutely in my mind, didn't.
Speaker 6 (55:18):
You know?
Speaker 14 (55:19):
Obviously from the valley.
Speaker 15 (55:21):
In my mind there was nowhere else where I thought
I was going to be, whether you know, whatever route
I had to get to go through to get here. Realistically,
it was Junior College, Fresno City, and I had a
great time there, and you know, worked and grinded and
got my way here.
Speaker 2 (55:38):
So and you know, right now, you guys are the
midway point of the season. The next five games are
all conference games, and they're really going to determine whether
you're a championship team or not. You've spent more time
around these guys, whether it's the O line, the quarterback,
even the guys you bump up against on the defensive
side of the ball. What are the things that you've
(56:00):
a to make you believe you guys can be a
Mountain West championship team in twenty twenty four.
Speaker 15 (56:05):
It's the grit that our team brings to practice every
day and on the field, you know, win or lose,
we're always going to go out there and play a
physical game.
Speaker 14 (56:15):
When it comes back to to is toughness.
Speaker 15 (56:18):
I think, and we show it, like I said, every
day in practice, whether it's scout team or first team offense,
first team defense, we're we're flying around, we're hitting, we're
having a good time. And you know, it's at the
end of the day when we walk off the field
where teammates and we know that we're always going to
trust each other no matter what. So that's ultimately what
it is that. You know what I see that I
(56:40):
believe we will succeed.
Speaker 2 (56:43):
But I've got to ask you to because you know,
I know. It wasn't the result anybody wanted Saturday, but
the red Wave definitely showed up. It was another soul
to out crowd at Valley Children's Stadium.
Speaker 3 (56:53):
Got a chance to do that.
Speaker 2 (56:54):
Again two weeks from tonight when San Jose State comes
for homecoming.
Speaker 3 (56:58):
Not from tonight, two weeks from Saturday. I don't know
what day. It is. A week and a half.
Speaker 2 (57:02):
From now, on October twenty sixth, when San Jose State
comes it's homecoming. Ron Cox is going to have his
number fifty four added to the Ring of honor. And
the breaking news today. I bet Wyatt would think this
was cool. Did you guys hear this? There's going to
be a postgame drone show at Valley Children Stadium after
that five o'clock kick against San Jose State. Have you
ever seen a drone shows? Not? Well, well, I don't
(57:24):
know if they'll wait for you guys to come out
of the locker room after the game. Maybe Wyatt can
take some video for you. What do you think would
you do it for your brother?
Speaker 3 (57:30):
Yeah? He's nodding his head.
Speaker 2 (57:33):
Can you tell the difference, Jake, when you're playing between
a sold out crowd and say, thirty five thousand.
Speaker 3 (57:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 14 (57:39):
Absolutely.
Speaker 15 (57:41):
The thing that draws people to this place, and what
I love about this place is just the amount of
people and the amount of people that care about this
team and show up every week, week after week and
bring that energy for us. I was fortunate enough to
grow up in an environment like that in high school,
being at Singer sold out crowds there too, so you know,
(58:01):
I've always been used to it.
Speaker 14 (58:02):
But you can definitely tell when you know.
Speaker 15 (58:05):
You go to these other schools that don't maybe have
that quite passionate fan base like we do.
Speaker 14 (58:11):
But yeah, I'm super grateful for Yeah.
Speaker 2 (58:14):
Tom Flora Stadium is a pretty special high school venue
named for a pretty special guy. How many of those
Tom Flora's Stadium famous tric tip sandwiches do you think
you ate in your life?
Speaker 14 (58:22):
I can't even count. I have no idea.
Speaker 3 (58:26):
We're almost out of time here, Jake.
Speaker 2 (58:29):
I'd love to hear one last comment from you about
because I can tell you really love being a Fresno
State Bulldog. I'm sure you would have had fun playing
college football other places, but this really means something to you.
How do you put that into words? What it means
to you to be a Fresno State Bulldog.
Speaker 15 (58:43):
I mean, it is really hard to put into words,
but really it's everything, you know, definitely right now and
in the future, it's I play on staying here and
it's gonna I'm definitely gonna be around around this place
for a long time. So man, it just means the
world to me that I've been able to be in
this position for these past years and know the people
that I know, and these coaches, you know, like I
(59:05):
said before, that have my back, and these guys that
I've become really close with. Every day there's you know,
football teams have you know, nine close to one hundred guys,
and you know, you get the opportunity to meet so
many different people from so many different places, and I'm
it's just really grateful.
Speaker 2 (59:21):
Maybe someday we'll be caring for another ballast out there
on the field. Maybe we're gonna see why it running
around in a Bulldog uniform someday. Thanks to Jake Bows,
thanks to Tim Skipper, thanks to everybody who came to
the point. Patty o'baran bistroz year here next Wednesday night
for the next Bulldog Football Hour on the Bulldog Sports Network.
