Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to the program here on Sports
(00:02):
Radio AM thirteen hundred the Zone here on this Tuesday afternoon.
My name is Craig Wait. Thanks so much for joining us.
We do appreciate that. As always, we're with you from
two to five pm daily here on the program here
as we sit hard by the Pennybacker Bridge and astride
Lake Austin and the Colorado River. Glad to have you
(00:24):
with us always. Glad to be joined by the producer,
Cameron D.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Parker.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
The D on the birth certificate stands for Dallas. We
had a detailed discussion of his the level of his
fandom yesterday for the team for which he was named,
the Dallas Cowboys, that he says he's not going to watch.
He did watch a little bit of the preseason thing,
but does not plan to watch him in the regular
season or the postseason unless they've reached the NFC Championship game,
(00:50):
something they have not done since nineteen ninety five. Would
you like, since since Dallas is your middle name, whouch
you like to have like one of those uniforms like
what SMU you has where it just has Dallas right
across the front there in the middle there.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
With those are pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
I love Duncanville's where it's just the d yeah philosophy
and in the vill on it d Bill.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Yeah. Those are always really cool. Yeah yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
And and by the way, they're gonna be tough to
beat again the preseason number one team in the state.
They if I remember correctly and I can check this,
I don't think they start when everybody else starts on
the zero week because for the second straight year they're
only able to schedule nine opponents.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Nobody wants to play them. And kind of hard to
blame people, you know, because I'm the same issue that
Fick Schafer's happened.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Trying to get trying to get non conference opponents and
and and more importantly in their case, non conference opponents
to play at home. And so they're still working on
their non conference schedule. That's why it hasn't been released yet.
The men's basketball non conference schedule is out, but the
women's basketball, uh non conference schedule not yet.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Duncanville's open week one, and then they play South Olk
Cliff the second week. Then they play something called Saint
Francis Academy of Maryland, which is a really high level
private school in the Baltimore area.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
I'm guessing that game is gonna be on ESPN. U.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Uh, it's not because I know the guy does play
by play uh for the radio Rocks and he told
me it's a flow sports telegas.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Okay, yeah, yeah, oddly enough. So yeah, that's uh and
it and it is a Saturday.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
That they'll be playing them. So yeah, they're gonna they'll
be tough to beat. But there's teams in this area
that they're that are gonna be tough to beat all
as well. Everybody's practicing now, uh. You know Pantagraffs practicing,
Westlake practicing, Lake Travis is practicing. Uh, you know the
Big six A programs to Big five A programs like
Liberty Hill and Cedar Park. Uh, you know all of those,
(02:59):
you know the four they're all the way down. They're
all on the field and doing practices either early in
the morning or in the evening or something trying to
beat the heat, which makes sense as hot as it is.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Do you have your schedule yet for high school football?
Do you know what your Week zero game will be?
Do you have a week zero game or are you
just doing we do Okay, I do that is week zero.
That's gonna be.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
And Week zero for Texas high school football is week
one for college football. It's the last weekend of the month.
We're actually on Valley Sports Southwest going to televise the
game in the Metroplex between Lucas Lovejoy and Lovett Cooper.
(03:43):
Big intersectional matchup between two five A powers, accented by
the fact that it is the return to the sidelines
for none other than Todd Dodge. Oh of course kind
of quote unquote went out on top when he had
the three peat with Westlake retired, but now he's back.
Took a year off and a couple of years and
(04:05):
now he's ready to go again. And he's going to
be the coach at Lovejoy, which is for folks who
don't know where that is. That's it's part of the
suburban sprawl on the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
It is to the east of Plano, kind of north.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
He said, you know what, I would equate it to
Hoddo think think about that kind of northeast and and
you know, building up really big.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Of course is a six A. Now Lovejoy is a
five A program.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Uh, but yeah, that that'll be the game we'll be
doing on the on the week zero of that, and
then of course all the scoreboard shows and all that
all that sort of stuff. Today on the program, we'll
talk some college football. We're gonna hear from Sark, now understand,
and you'll hear and there's some really good offerings from
Sark about the development of the of this football team,
(04:55):
coming out of the scrimmage, coming out of the practice yesterday,
there's good stuff there. At the time that Sark did
the media availability yesterday after practice, ward had not come
down that Christian Clark had sustained the leg injury. I
still don't know the full extent of that yet, But Sark,
(05:21):
we'll talk about some of the other things as well
with this football team, and we'll hear from him.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
There's a lot of audience.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
We'll hear it in all three hours of the program
this afternoon. Also Pro football training camp updates. No update
really to tell you about Ceedee Lamb. Although I don't
know if you've heard this, Caam, I've heard whispers that
(05:50):
they're getting closer, that the talks have accelerated, and then
whre's reports of an offer being made where he would
be the second highest receiver paid a contract of all
time if they accept that that supposedly has been extended.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
I think I saw Adam Shefter tweet yesterday saying that
it's expected they will get a deal done before week one,
and I think so too. I mean, we saw it
with Ezekiel Elliott. I think if you're going to rate
between CD, Micah and Dak Prescott the likelihood they'll get
re signed, I think CD is that one, Micah two
(06:28):
in DAK three.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
At this point that makes sense.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Well, for those who feel that the Cowboys would be
making a huge mistake by.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
Not holding on the Dak Prescott, it might not make sense.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
But in the prioritization, if we can, if we can,
if we can from ament climb into the mind of
Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones and Will McLay and the
way that all that's going in the front office of
the Cowboys, I think you are correct, cameronon that. I
think that's how they prioritized it. We heard Stephen Jones
(07:03):
even on the first day their training camera the first
time they spoke the Cowboys brain trust about how they
have the challenge to do three deals that many organizations
only have to deal with one, and he made a
point of pointing that out. He said, We've got three
(07:24):
that we have to deal with, three that we have
to get done. So maybe it's on their list, but
I think to your point, the priority is certainly going
to be more toward getting CD Lamb, if for no
other reason, because that's strong the most attention, and if
(07:49):
they can get him locked up, then they figure. What
I'm just guessing is because he is such an explosive,
playmaking type of receipt that even if they can't hold
on the Dak Prescott after the end of the season,
whatever quarterback they had, be it Trey Lance or somebody
(08:09):
else that they brought in, somebody else, can still get
the football to see Lamb and let him do his thing.
So I do agree with you. I think that's I
think that's the direction that they would go. Micha Parsons.
They got to get done too. He can he can
be that kind of franchise guy and they need they
(08:30):
need to get him done. So anyway, we've got other
NFL notes to get to Olympic notes as well. There's
a basketball to get to. Baseball's had some bizarre things
happened in the last twenty four to forty eight hours.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
We'll do that.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Speaking of bizarre, we do have inconceivable, which will include
a fast food update.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
By the way, we could update to tell you that,
you know.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
I mentioned an inconceivable the other day that updating fast
food because we put Starbucks into the fast food category
and they came up with a new drink of vanilla
Caramel Swirl, and Cam said it sounded interesting, so I
thought I would take it beyond interesting and went ahead
and picked us up each one today coming in review.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Good, Okay, I need I need that sugar rush this afternoon,
you guys. For folks who don't know, we're getting.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Very excited around here because like everybody else, we're excited
about the advent of football season clearly and in specific
for the Longhorns. This of course is your flagship radio
station for Long Corn football. This and you'll be able
to hear all the games both on this station and
on our big Elephant teen sibling that wears the straw hat,
(09:48):
ninety eight point one FM Cavet, the home of Austin's
all time country favorites, So on both signals you'll hear
all of the long Horn football game and I think
also on Austin's D station one O three point one them.
So we've got it. You can't miss it, the games
on your radio dial. So we've got the games on.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
This season.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
And just like last year, last year was the first
year back, and it all happened so quickly, the games
winding up back over here in the iHeart family, Me
coming back over, Cameron coming over and joining us at
the IRA. If it's a truth or to Cameron was
actually an employee here before I was there in my
second go round, didn't make a second go around. Technically
(10:32):
second go around. I was here for nineteen years the
first time. But then but then the second go around,
there's second time you you were, you were in the
building before I was, but in my situation was a
little more complicated.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
We'll get through it.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
And so last year was the first year getting through
all of that, and and there were some things and
adjustments and yes, even some growing pains to go through
on some of the things. But got through that and
now re upped, re armed and excited and ready for
a year number two back in the iHeart family. And
we've got all the games. So with that in mind,
(11:12):
this morning, Cameron along with our fearless leader, our program
director Terry Fox and what you had technical industry and
also you had Mike Hardball, Harge and Mark Henry who
you listen to every weekday morning on the morning kickoff
from seven am to nine am. But Harje and Mark
(11:34):
Henry will be joining Cameron to bring you long one
game day pregame coverage beginning three hours prior to kick
So they went down along with technical staff.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
To and it was Terry Kelly there from the next
week as well. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Yeah, speaking of fearless Leaders, our operations director for the
Long Worn Radio Network from lear Field, A group of
them gathered down at the new broadcast location for that.
I know, folks for years have become accustomed to seeing
the broadcast location be on the sidewalk there just outside
(12:12):
the entrance to the west side of the press box,
west side of the stadium, and it's kind of crammed
in on some of They've got new, big, spacious digs
just a half block down the street right there at
the wind Ship Circle area where there's going to be
so much going on and so you like that area.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
Oh, it's gonna be exciting. Craig, I'm super pumped, and
I know the rest of the team is as well.
Year number two of our pregame show, but revamped, reimagined
this year will be called Longhorn's Game Day and glad
to be hosting it again with with Mike Carge and
get to welcome Mark Henry, who has got some great
insight on football, on the game, on Texas Football as well,
(12:52):
so looking forward to that. We're in a great spot
right near Big Bertha in the food truck, so a
great place for fans to come in, be able to,
you know, watch our show. We're gonna have you know,
plenty of guests on this season. Greg and Roger will
join us from the booth at times, former players insiders.
It's exciting, Craig, and we're what eighteen days away, eighteen away,
(13:15):
and I just couldn't help but think about how good
the timing is and the positioning that you guys next
to Big Bertha, you know, the the big beverage truck
if you've not seen it, that dispenses cold malted beverages there.
So now, unfortunately, I think I'm gonna have duties during
(13:38):
the game and after the game, but I know my
cards and Mark Henry will probably be taking advantage of
Big Beertha after our show, after the show, to make
sure if you're coming out you do take advantage of
Big Earth though.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
The first of the Long Orange Game Day programming will
be on Saturday, August thirty first, and that's eighteen days away,
and it will be at eleven thirty AM, three hours
prior to the two thirty kickoff, and those guys will
take you for two hours from eleven thirty AM up
to one thirty and then our network pre game at
one thirty in the kickoff at two thirty when that
(14:13):
postgame coverage as well. So all of that to come
here on the Zone.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
And our iHeart Radio family.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
All right, up next, we're gonna hear from Long Ones
head coach Steve Sarkisian when we continue here on this
Tuesday afternoon on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone
and where you can always listen to us for free
the iHeartRadio app
