Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's good.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
It's good? What up as much? And you checking out
the Cruise Show podcast right here? You're welcome. How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:10):
I'm good, I'm good. Thank you for taking the time
to do this.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Oh you got it.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Yeah, it's crazy on our side, you know, So continue
praying for our city always always for sure. Hey listen,
thank you for your time. We appreciate it. And congratulations
on Landman Paramount plus.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
What a show? What a personal show for you?

Speaker 3 (00:29):
I think, right, I think I read that when you
read the script immediately it felt personal to you. Why
and why was your thea such an inspiration in your character?

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Are you gonna?

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Oh my goodness. As soon as I read the scripts,
saw this based from Texas and all of that. I mean,
I was born in Barscas. I drove from San Antonia
twelve past so a lot, and I drove through the
oil fields, and so I never knew that there was
a I didn't know about the industry. And so it

(00:59):
really does affect so many families in so many different
ways and people who live in that area, And that
immediately grasped my attention. Her being a widow.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
She was.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
Arianna is such an interesting character because even in the
face of grief. She is such a strong and resilient
woman Latina et cetera. And I mean, the women in
my life have very much shaped who she is. And
every time I would do a scene, especially me yelling
at Manuel, I was that was my mom, that was

(01:34):
my grandma. But I I was very young when when
my my Thia lost her family, and and I kind
of saw firsthand how it affected her. And and it's
something that I believe I was like five years old
or six years old, and so it's something that's very

(01:55):
it's it's somewhere in the back of my mind, and
I didn't realize how much it was present until Arianna
came into my life. And that was my cat and yelling.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
A dog barking or a couple of dogs.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
And if you hear a seven year old, it's my
son home from school screaming. So there's that. There's a
lot going on.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
Hey, Paulina, the season finales coming up on Sunday, and
you mentioned channeling some of your relatives during scenes. That
scene where you basically tell Tommy to fuck off and
don't judge you in your house was such a great scene.
Sorry for the language, but you know, I just I'm
starting to talk like Tommy now, I'm watching it so much.

(02:41):
But but that scene I thought was just so powerful.
How do you prepare for something like that and put
your mind into all Right, I'm telling this dude off
and I got to come off authentic. So what do
I what do you do to get pumped up?

Speaker 3 (02:58):
You know, bro She's Mexican broda, But I say, you.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
Know, everybody's got a process, you know.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
For sure.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
I remember Colleen Taylor and and just double checking that
we were on the same page for what we wanted
in that scene, And as soon as I read that scene,
I was just cheering her on. I'm so proud. I
feel like it's a scene that that just really does
embody embody women and them not taking shit from anyone

(03:34):
because we are, especially women, women are the first ones
to get just judged on everything and anything, and so
that's always in the back of her mind. I mean,
the circumstances are difficult, and I know that a lot
of people, especially in our culture, we're always afraid of

(03:55):
what outside people are going to say, of how we
handle certain situations, and so I just thought it was
a beautiful scene of Ariana really thinking out loud and
so going on set and then I'm like, oh, I
have to yell at Billy Bob.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
Ah.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
That was a little intimidating. But as soon as soon
as I like, just like, I'm not yelling at Billy Bob,
I'm not talking to Billy Bob. It's Arianna speaking her truth.
And that gave me the confidence. And I was very much,
very well supported by all of everybody, the cast and crew,
our director, he was amazing, and I remember we started

(04:35):
with my coverage and then they turned around and I
was like, I found something new that I can do,
and he turned around again and gave me that opportunity.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
You know, with this story being so heavy right already,
and then you're working with some legends just me more Bill,
Bob Thornton who you mentioned, John Ham. Is there any
fun on this set? Is there laughter? And who's bringing
that joy to the set?

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Oh? My goodness. You always have to have after, especially
when you're doing stuff as heavy as what we are doing.
Jacob and I always kept it lighthearted and there were scenes.
There was times where we couldn't stop laughing and we're
just doing a take and we're just like, hang on,
we just need it, We need a moment. But there
there's always that lightheartedness, which is good. It keeps you

(05:21):
saying in the face of what you were doing.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
I always wonder if, like with actors and actresses, if you,
guys ever go on to social media or go on
to TikTok and see the responses of your character, have
you encountered any of that? Yeah, you're like, you guys
just don't understand her.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Everybody tells me how big the show is, and I mean,
but in my mind, I'm just I'm sheltered in my
home and I'm just doing my own thing, and I
don't I didn't realize it. And I just had a
had jumped on the call with with Jacob who plays Cooper,
and we talked for hours and how how he has
been just being swarmed by people asking for photos and

(06:02):
all that. I'm just like, whoa, what do you mean?
And he was like, go on TikTok, look it up,
look up Cooper and Arianna.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
And just look at it.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Okay, a lot of people are rooting for us, and
then so I'm here for it. It's it's so crazy.
I never expected And now my TikTok algorithm some some
Landman clips come in, and now I'm just like.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Oh my gosh, are you watching yourself? Are you liking
are you liking the videos?

Speaker 1 (06:28):
It's it's interesting. I as it's hard to watch myself,
but this show is so good that I have to
watch it. I have to know because it's different reading
the scripts and then watching it come to live and
how they edit it. It's so beautiful. And and now
that I'm now that i'm I'm at it, I I
don't see myself in it. It's it's Ariana and that's

(06:51):
that's a true artist. I think that's really cool. And
then I'm I mean, I still close my eyes and
like if someone's there with me watching, I'm like, you know,
because I don't want them to look at me, because
that's what they do when.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
When they see you on TV, they're like they're watching you.
I'm there and here at the same time, like you're.

Speaker 4 (07:10):
Proud of it, but you almost get like secondhand embarrassment.
You're like, oh my god, he's.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
You mentioned TikTok. What was the last thing that you
bought on TikTok shop.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
I think I bought my cats that like donut thing
where they can hide in there. That's what I bought
for twenty five.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
You bought it.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Hey, Paulina.

Speaker 5 (07:35):
One of my favorite teens. And how you and Cooper connect,
your character and Cooper connect is when he's sitting on
the couch and he's eating stun it's super hot for him, right,
and you just laugh at him, you know, and you're
just like, that's not even the hot stuff.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Chill.

Speaker 5 (07:50):
But but are you a red or a green salta person?

Speaker 1 (07:54):
I think, hm, hmm okaya green? I mean no red?

Speaker 6 (07:59):
No?

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Wait is that red?

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Okay? Okay, nah, all good.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
All Gooda's red or green?

Speaker 1 (08:12):
See my mom does it where she does like the
egg in the middle and then does the green and
the red. Yeah. People in New Mexico they call it
like Christmas.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
I think the Seattles as well. I think it's called
for sure.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
You know your character Ariana out the Gate strong, right
out the gate strength.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Uh. And it shows right away.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
And I think you bring you being Latina, you bring
your mother, even your sister who prepared you, I believe, uh.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
As far as being a mom on the show.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
You know you're a widow, your mom and you watched
your sister become a mom and and everything that comes
with that, which is insane.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
Salute to all moms out there, you know.

Speaker 3 (08:57):
But yeah, that that that character Arianna is strength out
the gate, now, is that right there? Do you bring
your past experiences into the roles, especially this one, I yes.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
I bring I bring a little bit of of just
the people around me. And I feel like, again, this
is such a good representation of the women in my life.
And and so I definitely bring something in and I
carry something out with her as well. Ariana isn't living

(09:30):
inside me. I learned a lot from her. And and yeah,
my sister I was there when when when she keeps
not in the room, but I was there in in
in Colorado when when she had her baby. And perhaps
because she did it natural and no medication. And I know.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
My wife did that too.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
It's oh my goodness. And so my mom and I
we were like on night shift, just like bringing her
the baby whenever because those things eat every two hours.
Yeah no, And I'm the youngest, so I never grew
up with like babies or anything. And so it was
the baby. I'm still a baby, You're still the baby.
And so I that happened like the year that I

(10:18):
auditioned or land Man was when she she had a
baby and she's going to have another one very soon,
and so my moment and I were like, we're planning
to go over there and round two. So so yeah,
it was it was interesting. But I remember my first
John said, I paced on her and I was like,
how do you breastfeed again?

Speaker 3 (10:41):
And you know as latinos, right, we got to have
two babies, so the older baby can take care of
the younger baby.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
You feel me, I don't know anything. You know growing
up in Texas? You know Texas hip hop?

Speaker 3 (10:55):
That hip hop scene is a different planet, right, Who
did you grow up listening to?

Speaker 1 (11:00):
Oh my Goodness, Gabrielle you name it, like, oh my goodness.
My first memory was at a Juana's concert. I was
in a carrier, That's what I remember. I remember it
being really loud and it was a concert, and I
don't remember what time it was. But if I played
back to that moment and I probably could remember.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
No for sure.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
As far as hip hop goes, who are some of
your favorite artists hip hop?

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Honestly, I oh, nor your your smile just started, like,
give me some artists and I will listen to them.
I love music so much, you know.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
I mean that you mentioned your earliest memories at a
Juana's concert. Mine is a Mona concert, and I'm pretty
sure I fell in the seats and I like, I
don't know. I think I was like six and I
was at a Mono concert.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
Were they were always taking this to concerts. I remember
even stalking. My mom was a big groupie. Met Ricky Martin.
That's right, you met him when when they when he
was in Maneuval and they both had like the same haircut.
I'm not even gidding.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
It was a vibe back then. It was a vibe.
It was a vibe, it was a whole vibe.

Speaker 5 (12:18):
Yeah, hey, a quick question. You know, one of the
things I love about you and Cooper are are any
Arianna and Cooper? And by the way, I'm totally rooting
for you guys.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
Is you guys seem to just fall in love fast.

Speaker 5 (12:33):
You guys are both at an intersection where you almost
need that person in your life, right he does you do?

Speaker 2 (12:40):
Have you ever fallen in love that quickly?

Speaker 5 (12:42):
Paulina?

Speaker 1 (12:44):
Definitely, definitely, and and it is it is something where
it's just like two magnets that are just drawn to
each other and there's like no explaining it. It is
something that's beautiful, very rare too. Yeah, I definitely, I

(13:05):
definitely viewed Cooper as that person that I that I
was able to trust immediately. It's like something in the
fucking Stars that that they're just wanting you guys together,
and and so I definitely drew from that in that connection.

Speaker 4 (13:22):
I think the I think as latin as we just
love hard and love scary too at the same time,
so it just comes naturally in a way.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Definitely, I agree, Yeah, are scary?

Speaker 2 (13:35):
Does that mean toxic?

Speaker 1 (13:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (13:39):
It could be depending, It depends depending.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
I mean, we're not gonna put my fingers, but I
I understand how yes, scary, But I also think, I mean,
I'm someone that really trusts my intuition and if anything
feels wrong then I'm just like them out. But but
when it feels right, it feels right, and it's.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
Beautiful, it's great, it really is. It really is, man.
We need more of it, right, I.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
Agree, And I know when I talk to Taylor like
he wants to show relationships that are pure, that are
not toxic, and Cooper and Ariana wherever they end up
going it is that it is pure, it is it
is beautiful and far away from any toxic relationships.

Speaker 5 (14:34):
Yeah, well even Tommy, even Tommy and his wife start
out your first you know, visual of them is toxic.
You know his ring tone for his his ex wife
is scary ring tone and all that stuff. But then
you see how much they like, really love each other
and they're really fucking right or die for each other,
like for real, for real, and it's it's And I

(14:55):
think that's what's the great part about the show is
your initial instinct that's a human being and people that
are on social media is to judge all these characters
just a little bit. But Taylor Sheridan, who writes this
show and writes I mean Yellowstone and so many others,
the depth of the characters draws you in and you
look past your first reaction and go, nah, there's more
here to all these people right here. You know, yeah, yes,

(15:17):
she's getting drunk at a country club, but she's also
helping people at old folks home like And that's what
I love about this show is it's just you guys,
suck us all in as viewers with such depth and
that applaud to your acting as well, because you're pulling
it off, you know, real bal.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
Thank you so so much, and I agree. I know
every fucking person is messy, and every relationship it's not
all rainbows and sunshine. There are so many moments that
you decide and choose to go through together. And it's
beautiful watching Tommy and Angela's relationship flourish. I mean, even
Cooper and Ariana. The circumstances are against them, and yet

(15:58):
they are both choosing each other, and I think it's
very beautiful. And again, I think it shows you the
realness of what relationships are, but also the beauty in them.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
No, that's great. You know what I noticed.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
I you know, I studied body language, and every time
you curse, you seem to feel very comfortable.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
Which I can appreciate. Like that, I like that fucking
shit you feel me? Fuck yeah? Tailor like nah, so
do we I'm.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
Like, okay, I don't have to be.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
All yeah nah nah fuck that, man. Listen, let's be
our fucking selves. You feel me?

Speaker 3 (16:34):
How are they treating a young fucking latina on set?
How are they treating you on set?

Speaker 1 (16:38):
Oh? My goodness, I listen. I only work like a
total of twenty to thirty days. So I was like
in and out, but amazing, amazing there are I mean,
there are so many people in the crew that are Latinos,
and so it's like family. You you relate to those people,

(16:59):
and they're and and I think they also see like,
oh my god, like it's a Latina on screen. Yes,
and I think it's very inspiring. My hair person, Emerald,
she's Latina. I met her on another project and I
got to she got to do my hair this time,
and I can adore her and I would have conversations
with her too. I'm like, how is that looking? Is it?

(17:20):
Is it giving what it's supposed to be giving? And
she's like yes. You know, when I was doing the
breastfeeding scenes, the camera angles, even if you're doing it properly,
it's like, oh no, you have to move the baby
this way that way that it picks up right on camera.
And so my intimacy coordinator she was there telling me
what's up, and Emerald, she has babies, and so she

(17:40):
was just like, oh, yeah, that that looks goodn't And
so I everybody was on each other's side, and everybody
just wanted this to be as authentic as possible.

Speaker 3 (17:51):
Man, that's what it's got to be. I need an
intimacy coordinator here at the house.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
Guys.

Speaker 3 (17:57):
My poor wife christ God bless how.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
Do I get one of those? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (18:03):
Congratulations on land man, it's on Paramount Plus Fire series.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
We appreciate the time. Thank you so much.

Speaker 3 (18:10):
I understand you got a lot going on, so thank
you very much for sitting down with us.

Speaker 1 (18:13):

so devastating, and my heart go out with all the
families that are having to evacuate and are losing their
homes over there in LA. It's so scary to see.
I can't even imagine what people are going through.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
