One month after releasing him from an expensive two year
deal that would have paid him twelve million dollars. This year,
the Mariners have brought back Jorgete Polanco the one year
deal seven points seventy five million dollars with a player
auction besting option with performance bonuses. Perhaps on top of that,
he's not gonna play second base like you did last
year when he started out twenty nine point two percent

(02:20):
third base. Let's see how that goes. Pitchers and catchers

that could sociate our Hugh Millan and former NFL players,

joining us now on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline from Mobile, Alabama. Sir,
thanks for joining us on ninety three point three KJRFM.
(03:46):
How are you.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
I'm doing great? Thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
You're welcome, all right. I'm gonna start right at the
top of mind. People Seahawk fans out here in Seattle
want offensive lineman and they need some good ones. They
need guards and centers, particularly at eight, guards and centers
that have stood out to you that you could tell
us about that might make Seahawk fans excited. Let's not
say just first rounders, but even maybe second day pick prospects.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Yeah. Well, I mean the first guy that comes to
mind is North Dakota State offensive tackle Graized the Bell,
who was working at Garden Center at the Senior Bowl,
and he was pretty clearly the best offensive lineman there,
especially through the first two days. Had never played guard
or center before. You know, it was a left tackle
(04:32):
all of this season. But I mean he had I
think first two practices he had twelve one on one reps,
and you know, the one on one pass rushing drills
are set up for the defensive lineman to win, right,
and he won eleven out of twelve decisively and had
one that was like a halfway loss. Really just a
lights out performance, and he boosted his stock from I
(04:56):
would say like a fringe second rounder like fifty to
seventy range to somewhere like I could. I could see
him potentially going in the first round, but definitely top
of the second round.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
And as you do NFL draft scouts, James, do you
see that guards are in the infamous words out here
genno Ander Johnson? Are overvalued? Are they paid too much?
Are they drafted too high? Are they drafted too low?
What are guards in the NFL draft landscape? To you?
Speaker 2 (05:27):
Well, I don't think that guards are less important. I
think that you know, there are a lot of offensive
lines across the league every year that prove how important
interior offensive line play. I think the main sticking point
when it comes to value is just the scarcity of
(05:49):
guards versus tackles. You know, every free agency cycle there's
at least a couple, you know, starting caliber guards and
centers available. They don't always hit like players that we
expect to do well in a new situation don't always translate.
(06:09):
But every year there's there's a few starting caliber guards
that get signed. You can't really say that with tackles.
It's a rarity when a true quality starter hits the market.
So I think if we're contrasting the value of tackle
versus in tier. It would just come down to the scarcity.
You know, the good tackles usually get re signed by
(06:32):
the team that drafts them. But as far as importance,
I mean, yeah, bad guards can wreck your offense just
as quickly as bad tackle play can.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Tell us about it.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
With the Seahawks, they're in a the same situation they've
been in for some years now, and that's to draft
a quarterback or not. And with John Schneider, he's only
taken two quarterbacks since he's been here.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
That's Russell Wilson and Alex Magoo.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
Looking at this draft, the whole talk has been, oh,
it's not a strong quarterback class, lase blah, but you're
down at the Senior Bowl. Maybe this os take a
flyer on a third round, fourth round guy, Has there
been anyone that you thought could be someone that could
just sit behind a starter and learn that looks decent
enough to do so?
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Yeah, I'm If I'm taking a quarterback that I'm planning
to red shirt for a year, I would probably go
with Jalen Milroe or Jackson Dart.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Now.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
I don't really value those quarterbacks as highly as some
other people. I know. Certain analysts have Jackson Dart like
in contention for a quarterback two in this class, and
think of him as a second round pick. I would
be a lot more comfortable to taking him outside of
the top one hundred because I think he does need
to sit for a year. The offense that he's running
(07:50):
an old myths. I mean, he's not reading the entire field.
He's basically just throwing to one on one matchups or
making like really simplified read and needs to learn how
to deal with pressure as well. And then Jalen Miro
just is completely erratic on tape. There will be stretches
where he's fairly accurate, and then he'll pretty much like
(08:13):
blow the Tennessee game because he can't hit anyone over
the middle of the field. Pocket presence ranges from really
good to like some of the worst in college football.
So he's got all the traits in the world, but
two players that I think need to sit, but could
be promising developmental options with some upside if he wanted
(08:37):
to go with more of a higher floor, low ceiling
type of route. Will Howard wasn't at the Senior Bowl,
but I really like him, especially what he did down
the stretch in the college football playoffs, somewhere in the
fourth round probably, and then Dylan Gabriel is kind of
a point guard distributor, just a really efficient can operate
(09:00):
from the pocket. Doesn't give you a whole lot in
terms of crazy arm talent or anything, but really experienced
protects the football accurate, can you know, operate the offense
on schedule.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Yeah, speaking of Gabriel, that's a name that was brought
up on our text line a few days ago.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
Where do you have him? Is he a fourth round
grade for you?
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Yep, I've got a mid fourth round grade on Gabriel.
He's my fourth ranked quarterback, one hundred and fifteenth overall.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Jane Strosser from the Mobile from the Senior Bowl and
Mobile Alabama joining us on ninety three point three KJRFM.
What do you think of Kyle McCord from Syracuse? Is
he in that middle round and there are some who
see him as an NFL prototype, but now the NFL
prototype seems to be more of a runner.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Yeah, Kyle McCord, I think he's right in that Will
Howard range fourth to fifth round. He you know, kind
of fits the gunslinger archetypes. Just you know, have some
if you just like watch a couple of games. You
could get lucky and stumble on some outstanding how McCord
(10:08):
performances and be convinced that he's like a second round pick,
but also some disaster games in there, you know, throwing
a bunch of pick sixes. And I think that, you know,
really with this this quarterback class, like looking strategically for
the Seahawks, if I was making the decision, I would
(10:32):
probably just pass on this class and uh and and
punt on that decision for next year. It's it's just
it's really not a promising a group of quarterbacks unfortunately.
And I say that as a Titans fan who you
desolutely need a quarterback, And yeah, it's not looking good.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Well, but the one thing the Seahawks are great at
at the NFL Draft is passing on quarterbacks. Yeah, you
got that right the last fifteen years. Tell me about
Willie Lampkin. I've seen you post videos of Willie Lampkin
from the Senior Bowl. He's a guard from North Carolina.
Do you see where do you see him fitting in
the NFL? Is he something still of a project?
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Well, he was an interesting player and he was actually
after watching him at the Senior Bowl. He was the
first person that I went home and watched his tape
just because I mean, we've literally never seen a player
like him in the NFL. He's the shortest and the
smallest offensive lineman in combine history, just over two and
(11:37):
seventy pounds. Actually has decent arm lengths thirty two inches
is twenty first percentile for centers, which is where I
project that he'll end up. I mean, he's too small.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
To be a guard, but.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
There's you know, if you've ever seen Aaron Brewer, that's
really the closest comp former Titan center and now plays
for the Dolphin, and Willie Lampton kind of has a
similar play style where he's actually really technically polished, like
he has to be to you know, survive of his size.
There are times that he'll just get bulldozed by power rushers,
(12:15):
but generally there's a really good job of leveraging plays
with good hand usage, and you know, holds up a
lot better in past protection than you would expect for
a player of his size. I do still worry about
him holding up in past throw in the NFL. I
think it'll be an uphill battle. He does have really
(12:36):
fun run blocking tape, Like at two hundred and seventy pounds,
he's got so much range to get out on the
move pull. You know, he's running downfield as fast as
Amari and Hampton and you know, pancaking safety. So it's
really fun tape in the run game, and I could
I could see him settling into maybe a kind of
hybrid fullback like flex tight end role. He was like
(13:00):
the kind of player that Harbaugh would be able to
find a role for. But yeah, if he's gonna stick
on the offensive line, it's definitely going to be at center.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Wille Lampkin North Carolina's two hundred and seventy pounds, he
would be three inches shorter than the smallest current NFL
offensive lineman, the second lightest in the past twenty five years.
This is James Foster on the Beacon Plumbing hotline from
the Senior Bowl and Mobile Alabama. He's with the thirty
third team, James.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
The Seahawks also need some help in the trenches on
the defensive side, and I want to look at edge rushers.
The Seahawks finally had a guy that got ten sacks.
I know ten sacks is an end all be all,
but for the Seahawks not to have had that since
what I want to say, two thousand and sixteen, maybe
seventeen maybe I think Frank Klark might have been the
last player to do so twenty sixteen with ten.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
With that being said, who are some edge guys that
you've seen that can pop in the NFL at the
next level and take a defense at the next level.
Just what their ability to get out of the quarterback
and stop the run.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
Two.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Yeah, this is a stacked edge rusher class. I mean,
you can really like at every spot in the draft.
I think you can find value the headliners that were
at the Senior Bowl. You've got Mike Green out of Marshall,
who's six three two and fifty one pounds speed rusher,
(14:16):
can win with power, has a nasty outside spin move.
You know, obviously the level of competition is somewhat of
a question, but he performed really well at the Senior
Bowl against some tackles that will be starting in the
NFL next year. I think he's pretty much solidified himself
as a top fifteen pick. A little bit later down
(14:39):
the board, you've got kind of there's two similar project
types in a similar mold to Trayvon Walker from a
few years ago. Michel Williams out of Georgia and Shamar
Stewart out of Texas A and M. Both of them
are gonna have outstanding performances at the combine there. You know,
Michel is listed at two sick five, Shamar Stewart weighing
(15:01):
at two hundred and eighty one pounds. But I mean
they're gonna probably have like eighties percentile forty yard dashes,
but just extremely raw as pass rushers. So if you
want to go that route where you draft a guy
year one, he's gonna be like a solid early down
run defender while he figures out a pass rushing plan.
You could go with one of those guys, but then
(15:23):
down the board, like one of my favorite players who
was at the Senior Bowl is Donovan Ezaaku out of
Boston College led FBS. It was either him or Mike Green.
They were in contention down to the wire of leading
the FBS and sacks. But a highly effective cross shop.
(15:43):
He's just got like he's got two or three moves
that he kind of alternates between. It's a really simple
pass rushing plan, but no one in the acc could
stop it. He's a little bit undersized, but he actually
has really long arms and has some of the best
been in this class. I mean he he dips around
the corner as effectively as anyone. So he's one of
(16:06):
my favorite players. And then one more guy that I'll
mention is a small school, small school guy, David Walker
out of Central Arkansas. Speaking of unconventional builds with Willie Rampkin,
David Walker is about six foot flat, but he's two
hundred and sixty seven pounds and a lot of people
view a lot of people want like tall path rushers.
(16:28):
I want my pass rushers to be as short as
possible because that means they have to do that much
less to get lower than their opponent. And you saw
in the seeable one on ones, I mean, David Walker
is a bowling ball battering ram just no one could like.
He's so small that the target point for the tackle
(16:49):
to land their punch, it's hard for them to make contact,
and he has that automatic leverage advantage. He has the
most dominant college tapes that I've ever seen in going
up against terrible competition, but I mean, it's it's honestly
hilarious to watch. He's playing on sandbox mode in whatever
conference Central Arkansas plays in, and you know, this is
(17:12):
a big week for him to prove that he could
maintain that level of performance against the better competition, and
he answered the challenge. He was one of the best
house rushers there. So he's the guy that I liked
second or third round.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
You mentioned Mike Green from Marshall and Shamar Stewart from
Texas A and M there were two of guys that
had great practices. In case of Mike Green, one great
drill truck in an offensive tackle just obliterated him and
then they leave. And I've been around covering this game
for twenty five years, and I remember when NFL scouts
looked at the competitives a guy and they want to
(17:46):
see him out there every day, bringing his lunch pail,
doing a game consistency, not just in a week, but
through the entire pre draft process. From those NFL people
you're around and mobile, what is the reaction to guys
like Mike Green and simarsh through another's who have one
good practice and leave the whole camp and just gone
pack it up. See at the combine.
Speaker 2 (18:06):
Yeah, I'm sure a few years ago it probably would
have gotten more of a negative reaction. But every every
year for the past like four or five years, it
seems like there's at least one or two guys that
that leave early after a couple successful days in practice.
I know there was some drama because one of the
(18:29):
players that left, I'm not I'm not gonna say who
because I can't remember exactly who it was, but one
of the players that left, like didn't tell Jim Naggy
and just leaked it through the media, and they were
they were all pissed about that. So that's what everybody
was talking talking about. But I actually heard more about
(18:50):
people being impressed with players like Walter Nolan from Ole
Miss for example, who had two really strong performances, actually
got banged up in the second day of practice and
then came back out the third day of practice when
he didn't really have to, Like, nobody would have blamed
him for taking the rest of the week off. So
(19:10):
I think that I'm not sure it's it's really going
to knock somebody down a team's board, but that kind
of thing could go a long way and bumping a
guy up real quickly.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
I'm gonna ask you about centers because the two five
three wants me to ask about him anyone that particular
stand out, and maybe not first round, not just the
top shelf guys, but second day guys or somebody of
depth at center.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
Yeah, it's a really weak center class. Unfortunately, now there
are some potential conversions that could make it a less
week class. I mentioned Gray's a bell. He was working
at Garden Center, so so excuse me, Yeah he was.
He was splitting time about evenly, so he he could.
(19:57):
You know, most people will probably listen to the guard,
but he could when they sit in as a center.
I know there are some scouts that actually prefer him
there perdue tackle Marcus bow. I also know a lot
of scouts really like him of the center. I was
hoping to see him get some work there at the
Singer Bowl, but they were just playing at tackle, which
(20:18):
I didn't really think anybody viewed as long as his
long term fit. So kind of disappointed was how they
handled that. I thought Jodah Monheim out of USC had
a solid week. He's more of a Day three guy.
I didn't really like his tape, but I thought that
what he did in the last three days is as
(20:39):
impressed as I've ever been with him. And I'll also
mention a Shrine Bowl guy, Drew Kendall out of Boston College.
He's my third rank center. I thought he had a
really strong performance in the Shrine Bowl, went on ones.
So he's the guy that I would keep an eye on.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
Dan's Foster, You're a busy man. You just still descend
across the board with quite a bit from Alabama in
the Senior Bowl. We appreciate it. Thank you, sir, Thanks
proving me. James Foster from Mobile, Alabama at the Senior
Bowl with the thirty third team. He's an NFL draft analyst,
works with that same outfit that Hugh Mellon, our own
quarterback is on telling us that Grey's Abel, he mentioned
(21:17):
him like three times at North Carolina North Dakota State
guard at some see as a center said he didn't
really see him lose a rep, and he's right. Those
drills are really lined up for defenders to win right
and to track meet and and he's the guy's just
getting absolutely trucked. And Grey's Abel from North Dakota State,
he said, didn't lose any of the reps he watched.
(21:37):
And I asked him who the top guards are and
that's first one he said. That's about the only one
he said. He went on and on for him. So
guard is a position today Seahawks need to address and
they lake and Tomlinson's not coming back. They have went
through a rotation of guards that they didn't like Anthony Bradford.
They're not sold on obviously, Christian Haynes are not sold on.
They tried three times to give him the job and
he didn't win it. And as center reason I asked
(22:00):
about center, not just because the two fight three asked
me to, but Oval with Timmy is not convinced the
coaching staff that he's the guy. I mean, if you
had Christian Haines, who'd never played the position before, practicing
at center at the end of last season, that told me.
I was out there at the indoor facility then of
December seat I was like, wait a minute, Christian Haines
is practicing shotgun snaps what So they obviously aren't sold
(22:22):
on Old with Timmy. I figure that out back in April. Yeah, right,
and to do with no need, Hey man, come play football.
We know you just got off of surgery, but screw it.
Next here be part of the show. Your reaction to
hearing from James Foster to Senior Ball. You ask, we
delivered with the questions that you had on the text line.
And the Mariners in their latest moves, well read back
your text I just saw you in finess. We're gonna
(22:43):
talk to him at eleven forty five. All that coming
up on ninety three point three k JRFM. Hi, welcome back,
thanks for listening to at the Greg Beot Show on
Chris Greg Bost Show with Christopher the Kid on ninety
three point three kid r FEM. You know what time
it is and music means it's time to readbeck your
text on the Toplemore du text line four nine four
(23:06):
five one. When it's game time, it's totally time.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
From the two zero six our guy Travis Greg over
under on Polanco errs by All Star Break fifteen.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
Fifteen by the All Star Break. Wow, you can tell
Travis is a tongue in cheek. Tongue in cheek, that's
the question. I mean, he had some trouble from second base.
Now he's going to throw across the field and the
balls are going to come out of him a lot
harder than that. He's played twenty four career games in
eleven years at third base. So this is something of
an experiment for the Mariners. It is from our guy Dustin.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
Out of the two five three, Polanco has a higher
upside and is better than Rojas, don't you think.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
I do agree that he there's potential to be better offensively,
obviously based on his numbers in his career path. But
they've signed a lot of guys based on their career
numbers that haven't done with the have done previously before
getting here. No, I hear you on that.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
As a die hard but down trodden MS fan, I
actually don't hate bringing Polanco back. It's better than doing anything,
and is also better than the Solano signing. Still not
subscribing to We'll leave the half, but I think there
might be a lot of fans that agree that bringing
Boloca isn't the worst thing.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
Ever, it's sure better than if you just said, well,
we did, we did Donovan Solano. Thanks what we're done exactly.
Speaker 3 (24:29):
So I think there are probably more Manners fans that
feel that way.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
When I go out and say that not likely, it's
just that they've been so I mean the entire offseason
last season, fifty four percent stuff. There's just so much skepticism,
and you can see why. You can see why fans
one playoff appearance and what is it twenty four years
you see why fans are Oh Horay Polanco, big deal?
(24:54):
I mean, you get it, right until the results change,
you understand. But I mean they're not a forty win team.
It could be worse. I hate to say that, but
they'd not. With the pitching staff they have, they are
not bottom. It's that's what's so frustrating for the fan base,
and that you listening. I get it, I totally get it.
And there are the Mariners at a point right now.
(25:15):
Let's face it, no matter what they do, they lose
in the public's perception. Oh, Horiy Polonko, big deal? Oh
Donovan Salona thirty seven years old? Wow, I mean that's
where they're at right now, until the results change.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
From the two oh six Mariner hate radio is getting old.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
Yes, it has been years of.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
Utility and ten years of frustration, but there are many
cities who would love to be competitive or close. Planka
has a history of being better. Rodriguez was not good
for the first two thirds of the year. Pitching is good.
Bring up Young and Emerson and let's go.
Speaker 1 (25:48):
Emerson Hancock fan, but you're gonna put them you have
a six man rotation. There's been talking of that. Why
not I heard Chris Ka Crawford talk about that with
the mayor.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
Right.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
You know why players would hate that is for the
incentive Luis Castillo for his next contract or even the
young guys who's still under club control. They don't want
a six man rotation. That takes away what five to
eight starts for the season. That's five or eight fewer
chances for them to reach incentives and be attractive as
free agents. They don't want a six may rotation from
the two five to three.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
I hate to admit it, but every one of the
Mariners have a better year and they will be competing
for the division.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
Oh, I think so. I don't know better yet, but
they're going to. I think they're going to compete for
the division. Wouldn't you be shocked if they didn't compete
for the division?
Speaker 3 (26:32):
I guess we should ask what is competing for the division?
Speaker 1 (26:36):
Be in contention to the final week or so? Wouldn't
you be really surprised if this team didn't do that?
Speaker 3 (26:40):
I mean, even though if don't they do that every
year though, and then yeah, sure, so I mean, what
are we what are we saying here? Is that what
we want exactly? That's where I'm going. It's like, okay,
competing for it? How about winning the division? How about
you you retext and say they are winning the division,
and then we can have a discussion around that. Competing
is what they've been doing win the division, right kind
(27:02):
of the Seahawks. We don't want to compete around the division.
We want to win. The Seas gonna win the division.
So I think we should just change the wording a
little bit and come back to us.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
Is that fair? Greg? It's fair, but it's somewhat spoiled
entitled because like I said, this isn't a forty win team.
It could be worse. I mean, we could be I'm
trying to think of a team it's been really bad
for a really long time. We say the Royals, and
then the Royals rose up last year and a sports
series just a few years ago. It's lost right now
(27:32):
at top of my head, the Pirates. Oh I'm from
Pittsburgh area, be a Pirates fan. Right now, we'll just
read the next thing. Our guy Marcus is out in
San Diego. I'm sure it's seventy degrees in blue sky
where he's at. He read a great article on MLB
dot com that said it's easier to have a bad
offense at Team Mobile than it is to have a
good offense at Cores with stats. Also, Polongo wasn't terrible
(27:53):
for last season and apparently had a bad knee he
had for the whole year, So maybe.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
Trying to be optimistic there. I think that nothing wrong
being optimistic. I just I know a lot of fans
are just tired of being optimistic because they've seen this.
They've seen this movie before. How many times have you
seen the Gladiator? Greg, You know you've seen it way
too many joking, choking.
Speaker 1 (28:14):
Way too many times.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
But the biggest thing is fans have seen the movie
too much and at this point they want to turn
on the movie and oh, I miss this blooper or
this deleted scene, like you want extras, and they're not
getting that right.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
So I don't. Yeah, I understood.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
I can't hope for optimism when they've done nothing to
say here's optimism.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
But whatever. Two five three clarifies he meant Colt Emerson,
not Emerson Hancock. Oh, Okay, Well that's on me, that bad.
That's okay. I think I jumped to Emerson Hancock. But yeah, we.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
Did talk a little bit about gambling. So I thought
this is a great text from the two five three.
I've been a camera ran for the series for fifteen years.
The NFL has a gambling policy, even for us. We're
not allowed to bet on any sport period. It's true.
Oh I'm sorry. I mean that's just kind of the
way it is.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
No employee, no NFL employee, in anything. Gardner, the guys
in the kitchen, nobody. They're trying to keep it clean,
and it's they're really tone a line by embracing all
of this advertising money from these betting sites and yet
just chopping the heads off of people who are betting.
(29:22):
But I get it. I mean, you're you don't want
to even be close to the field of play and
the integrity of the game and all of that. But
it's just a It's why Pete Roselle, for many, many
years when I was growing up and young in this business,
wanted nothing to do with gambling, wanted nothing to do
with Las Vegas. No way as an NFL team could
ever play there. He just said let's just keep it.
(29:44):
But then online and the proliferation of accessibility for people
and the money and the advertising and the different venues
of advertising, and it became so large that the leagues
couldn't ignore it anymore, and it was just this cash
cow that they had to milk. Now they're milking it well.
Sometimes you get cheese curds. Sometimes you get players and
(30:06):
employees who run a followed it. But it's just so easy,
and they shove it down your face. Oh, I'll just
bet on this prop. I could do it right in
the middle of the game. Okay, let me just pick
up my phone and do it. It's yeah, it's they're
having their cake in eating it too literally too.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
Oh my gosh. I'm trying to find the one that
I was laughing at earlier in today. Find another one
to read, Greg, and I'll get back to you.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
Three six says eighty nine wins als Champs for AO West,
Champs for them, I don't know, you know's I don't
know if eighty nine will do it, depending on the
Astros and they're pitching staff, and the Astros had a
ton of injuries. We know about that last year before
they've got going, and we talked about it in the
middle of July. Hey, the Astros are gonna get going
once they get healthy. I'm not sure eighty nine wins
(30:52):
would do it. Starters don't even go five innings, So
go to a six six man rotation of three six
says yeah, I hear it. But again, that's gonna take
away six starts for Luis gust Deal or maybe more
in the season, guys that are becoming arbitration eligible six
fewer chances. That means instead of two hundred and ten strikeouts,
you might have one hundred and eighty or that stuff
(31:14):
matters come contract time.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
All right, here's the one that I was looking for
from the four two five. This is when we were
talking about the Mariners early in the show. Just turned
you on and you're talking about the Mariners, Can you
talk about something a bit more interesting, like paddleball championships
or something I knew. I knew at the time that's
what you were looking at when that was hilarious battle ball.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
I'm like, wow, zero knowledge or expertise. Yeah, you don't
want me talking about that. That would be bad pickleball.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
Now, then you know at four two five we can
call you and you can break it down for us.
Speaker 1 (31:44):
How does that sound? Four five says do some homework.
Alonzo turned down thirty million dollars multiple years from the Mitch. Yeah,
I realized that this why I was talking about a
one year deal at this point.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
That's the Mets, though I have nothing to do with
the Marrions organization. That's one team.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Really are your first base, DH, fifth outfit or backup catcher? Boy?
That sounds enticing, doesn't it. That's me parenthetically, not him
or her. Do that until the trade deadline blisses up
as a utility infielder and pinch runner. Yep, I think
that's what's going to happen. But I'm still gonna yell
for Ryan Bliss and the reason somebody asked them the
text line, why is my fascination with Ryan Bliss. He's
(32:21):
new and fresh, and he gives a dimension that the
marriage don't have. Pressuring defenses. Dylan Moore does it sometimes,
but his speed Brian Bliss's speed. I told you I
was at the game one of his first games against
the Mariners on a Saturday afternoon, a late Saturday afternoon game.
He got on first base with a walk and was
at third base and two pitches and scored on a groundout?
(32:42):
How many times did the Mariners score on a groundout?
They could use that all the time, the way they're
hitting a two hundred batting average. It was and I
thought at the time, when we need to see more
of this? Yes, overpowered by her fastballs is Luke Arkins
and the higher velocities. Luke Arkins pointed out on our
show yesterday. Yes, but he was his first half the
partial season in the bigs. Didn't we give up on
(33:05):
him because he was overpowered by some high velocity? Give
him a chance, man, and he doesn't cost anything, which
is probably the most attractive feature to him for the
Mariner's ownership. Have you seen the mayor I have. He's
wandering around in a salmon covered hoodie. I don't even
know what that's about. You're looking fly today? He is.
We'll talk to the Great Mayor of Maple Valley internest
(33:27):
next on ninety three point three KJRFM. Welcome back to
the Greg Belt Show with Christopher Kidd on ninety three
point three KJRFM. Happy Friday to you and Happy Friday Day.
(33:51):
Internet joins this in studio. Hello, Hello, sir, well, you're cracking.
Are better for a day?
Speaker 4 (34:00):
They played a really bad team for being honest, I
mean we're being honest. That was yeah, and they they
got no goals any last night. Sano and the rookie
of the kids pretty good. He just he struggled. So
but hey, take that and win, and I'll be honest
with you. It's it's down to Sundays. If you think
you have any chance at all.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
I must win game on February fourth or whatever.
Speaker 4 (34:23):
It is, be February second, right, Groundhog Day?
Speaker 1 (34:27):
So what it is?
Speaker 4 (34:28):
Yeah, I mean that's you're that's a team you're chasing.
Speaker 1 (34:32):
Yeah, what are they nine points? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (34:34):
I was just looking it up actually because I think
that they won last night. Right, Ah, fifty seven? Your
for your eight points back, and they've got three games
in hand on you, Calgary. I'm just and I'm just
counting them, right, I mean you could count the Kings
(34:58):
as well. They're at fIF eight. I mean, if they
slip a little bit, but I mean just look at
the look at the numbers. I mean, Calgary's twenty. There's
seven games above five hundred. La Is nine games above
five hundred. Those are the two teams you have effectively
a chance to catch. You're at your four games under
five hundred with three more games played, your point percentage
is four to sixty two. Theos are both well over.
(35:21):
La is almost six hundred, and Calgary's five to seventy.
If you don't beat Calgary on Saturday, that's a four
point swing and you drop to twenty three and twenty eight,
five below five hundred with four games left before the break.
I I want to be optimistic and do the math,
but it's they win. They were six points, they'll win,
(35:41):
they're six but they still have games in hand.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
Yeah, right, this Calgary.
Speaker 4 (35:44):
So that point percentage what you look at, I mean
you need ninety five to ninety seven to get in
and Seattle would have to win at about a six oh
five six twenty something like that win rate. The rest
of the way, I mean, it's doable. They get on
a roll, I thought a couple of times are on
the verge of it, and then they lay an egg,
so like the Anaheim game.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
So we'll see, right.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
For the otherwise, it's going to be a busy month,
month and a half. Some doozy you guys are shedding,
you guys will be buying some new jerseys. I'll tell
you that.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
You're having collector's items.
Speaker 4 (36:14):
Thirteen, Yeah, thirteen and thirty seven ain't gonna be here.
So simple as that.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
There you go. Money walks about the Seahawks. I was
going to ask you, do you see any way Scott
Huff stays at the offensive line coach with Clinton Kubiak
and new OC I personally, I hope, so just for covering.
Speaker 4 (36:29):
Him, I don't know. I wish I could tell you definitively.
I gas, probably maybe, but I don't know. Klinton Kubiak
from I mean, we will meet him on Tuesday, I guess,
but but I don't know. I mean, he has no
relationship with Scott Huff, right, none. And the relationship that
Mike McDonald ha was Scott hoff was through Ryan.
Speaker 1 (36:48):
Grubb correct m tenuous at best.
Speaker 4 (36:51):
I would say I would if we start, if we
start reading the tea leaves Greg Bell, That's what I thought,
which would which would be tough for Scott because the
hiring cycle in college, which is where we'd probably end
up going back to, is already.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
Over correct for the most part. The boor was asked
about him and Almabam when we could go, and he
kind of hemmed and hot about Eyah, I love him,
He's always I'm always going to be here for him.
But he really didn't say.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
Yeah, well, being there for you and actually having a
spot for you the whole whole different thing. I'm here
for you. I'm here for you.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
Man. It's a Friday. I know Steve Peazoo is at
the Senior Bowl. You're gonna have him.
Speaker 4 (37:24):
Yeah, Steve's Ontay's. We got things a little bit different
than Steve's going to be doohn today. Danny O'Neil's on
as well today, so we're gonna have our two. Well,
Steve's usually Wednesdays, Senior Bowl stuff was going on. I'm
assuming Steve's probably already back home since no one stays
for the actual game, but we'll check it. He was
there writing stuff, podcasting all weeks. We'll get to him.
And then uh, Danny's weekly visit twelve twenty, and then
of course the huge Mariner's news. You're that cynic. We were
(37:47):
just talking about, Well, I'm gonna try not to be
I'll be honest with you. I'll try not to be.
Well that actually, that's where do you bring that up?
Because that was I'm gonna try not to be that
guy today. I'm sure I will be that guy today,
but I'm gonna try not to be that guy today.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
Michael wal you be you Ian. Danny wrote a what
are they doing there? You go?
Speaker 4 (38:05):
Okay, So I'll stop right there. Sorry. Sorry.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
Danny O'Neill up next. He just wrote a column in
the News Tribune about Pete Carroll's return and how he's
pretty excited about actually the back of the NFL. Do
you'll hear in Fornash. You'll hear Danny O'Neill in about
twenty minutes with him and Forness Anderson, Harris Jessman McIntyre rap. Next,
Craig Bell the newstributing Christopher Kids. Thank you for listening
all week. With a short week than I had, I'll
be back on Monday with Chris at the same time
(38:30):
ten to noon. He ends up next to ninety three
point three kJ RFM.
