Speaker 1 (00:13):
This is the Hub on Hollywood and iHeartRadio podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
I'm her co host James.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Rojas, and I'm Jamie blumco On this week's episode, we
have a non spoiler, Actually, I take that back, we
do have a full blown spoiler review of the new
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs movie. This has a
lot of drama behind the scenes, but I'm interested to
see if the drama on screen is worth the price
of admission. What may definitely be the price of admission

(00:41):
is the new Avengers Doomsday movie. The cast has just
been announced and it is a long list. Tom Hanks
makes a cameo and a new music video. But first, Jamie,
I hear Hallmark is coming to town.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Oh yeah, but we don't know a lot about actual
film itself, but Boston Casting is working on this one.
They are looking for folks to start filming a Hallmark
movie in Rhode Island starting in just next week. Right,
April is next week. It's crazy in early April. So

(01:21):
this is just more good news. Film industry is picking
back up here in New England. Spring is springing and
productions are coming back to town. Last week we told
you about Windows Bay that's going to be filming in
Massachusetts and Maine starting in May. So let's keep it rolling, James,

(01:42):
let's keep it going.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Any information about what type of Hallmark movie this is?
Is it like a holiday Christmas one? Is it I
just broke up with my boyfriend from the big city
now I go back to the small town of Rhode
Island kind of movies?

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Yes, because every Hallmark movie is that plus.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
So yes, answer, do you watch Hallmark movies? I never
get around to seeing any, and the ones that I
do see or know of, they're usually after people have
reviewed them and have completely dissected them.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Yeah, it's usually when they end up on streaming. Ye,
that I watched them. So who's Sarah Michelle Geller's husband?

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Oh, Freddy Prince Junior.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
Yes, CUCA from the nineties. There was a Hallmark movie. Uh,
like he started not too gone. It was a holiday
going back to the small town from the big city
and I'm a singer.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
His plot was, yeah, Christmas with you, Like he has
a daughter and then like this new woman comes along
and like they they're dating or something for something like that. Right,
it is a Christmas movie. So there's some magic of foots.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Yes, it was like a big singer who came to
town and ended up staying with them, him and his daughter,
and he was a small time like music writer, and
they started working together and they fell in love and
it was really sweet. I really liked it. Even though
it's the same plot as every single other thing, right,

(03:18):
I liked it. So you can expect more of the same.
And we've just got all of the most i'm gonna say,
romantical scenery right for these kinds of movies. Yeah, it's
it's New Own's a great place to film and all
kinds of movie. Got a period piece, you've got romance,

(03:40):
you've got drama. We've got places to shoot your movie
here in New England. So we got it all jobs
keeping them.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
I don't know where they filmed this or shot this,
but there was a new music video out just came out,
just was released this week, and surprisingly, or maybe not
so surprise given the context, but Tom Hanks he makes
a cameo in this movie, a music move a music
video for a song called you Better Run Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
And you Better Run to YouTube and watch it. This
is his son chet right is a part of the
band and is called something Out West and you and
I were just talking about this, right, it's kind of
a country band and Chet has the what is it
the bridge of the song. It's not the song that

(04:38):
is making waves, it's the theme of it.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Right, Yeah, I think I don't think I would imagine
Tom Hanks agreeing to be in any type of music
video unless it was for his son.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
And that's what we got.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
And the song is called, as I mentioned, you Better Run,
and so in the music video, it's entirely themed behind
Forrest Gump. And man, this is I don't know how
how many how much stretching you have to do in
order to get Tom Hanks, you know, Chet Hank's your
dad on this music video, just so you can incorporate

(05:17):
run Forrest Run and get him in the video. And
they're pretty much you know, Chet Hanks. He's dressed as
as Forrest Gump through the ages during this during this video,
and I think Tom he just shows up. I watched
the video. He only shows up, I think accumulatively, maybe

(05:37):
for ten seconds, but like he appears in the final
thirty seconds of the music video. And yeah, as you mentioned,
I think this is like just using the Tom Hanks
name so people can tune in and check out the video,
because yeah, it's the movie has the song has nothing
nothing to do with the movie except for pretty much
telling somebody to run rum forrest.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Is this shameless? It's just acceptable? What do you think
you leave shameless?

Speaker 3 (06:06):
Totally unacceptable? But it's really cute.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
I think is it even cute though?

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Because for those who haven't seen the music video, it's
Tom Hanks. The scenes that he's in, He's sitting on
a bench right and there's one second where he's shrugging
his his hand, his fist on his chin, another one
where he's kind of like arms up, kind of like huh,
like I don't know, and then and then the last
like five seconds is him like you know, chet Hanks

(06:34):
curling up with with with his dad Like that's it,
and so like other than I don't know, this just
seems like a's what's the opposite of a money grab?
Or like that's equal to a money grab? It just
like an attention grab.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
Right right?

Speaker 2 (06:49):
A chance?

Speaker 3 (06:50):
I think if your dad was Tom Hanks, you you
wouldn't use him, James, Is that what you're telling me
right now? You wouldn't use your dad's fame?

Speaker 1 (06:58):
I would hope to use him out, to use him
as something better than than this music video.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
I mean, what did you think of a song?

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Though it was okay, it wasn't it was inoffensive. It's
a you know, a country song about a guy and
a girl. And yeah, so like it's it's inoffensive, but
it didn't spark any any inspiration or or anything from
from me. But the thing is, again, Tom, like, he
didn't even dress up as his character. It may have
been funny if like he reprised his role and he

(07:26):
was seen throughout the music video reprising his role as
for a scump through the ages of the film. But
he's literally just like wearing like a black you know what,
like a like a like a blazer jacket and like
a normal and normal like you know, I don't know,
black pants or something. And he's sitting on a bench
wearing sunglasses. So he's he's not doing anything. He doesn't

(07:48):
stand up once in this music video. Uh, and so
they so I can imagine just him showing up on
the day of the shoot, him asking, Okay, so what
am I wearing today? And Chet's like, what you're wearing
right now is fine?

Speaker 2 (08:00):
There's the right there.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
If you just want to sit there right there while
I wear your Forrest Gump laugh is like a box
of chocolates costume or outfit.

Speaker 3 (08:08):
So I think Tom Hanks even knew he was shooting
a music video, like that's hilarious.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
I don't now, I don't now. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
Now I'm leaning more into that camp of like like
this is probably filmed with a very long zoom camera lens.
And Chat's like, hey, Dak, can you just sit here
next to me while I sing you this song? And
Tom is like okay, And then Tom's like kind of pointing,
like is there a camera guy like five hundred feet away?
And Chest's like no, no, just just give me a hug.

(08:38):
I need this.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Don't look that way, don't look don't look.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
That way, look over here. I don't know. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
Of the music videos that Tom Hanks has been in
the most appropriate, have you ever heard of a song?
And I'm gonna need you to look this up right now.
I should have told you about it earlier. It's a
song the Hanks and it goes Hanks, thanks bitch on Tom,
thanks Hanks, Like he was not like officially in that video,

(09:09):
but whatever that bend was used his likeness. Gosh, this
I feel like this was in twenty ten and it
was hilarious. And I remember Tom Hanks and his sons
responding at the time reacting to that music video because
Tom Hanks was all over that one with hilarity that

(09:35):
they really liked it.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
I'll look it up, but you know what, I will say,
the best actor, like professional A list actor, to appear
in a music video, it has to go to Christopher
walk In for a fat boy Slim. There's no there's
no other music video or actor in a music video that.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
Compares to that.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
It's just literally Christopher walking dancing throughout the entire like
three minute a four minute song, and he's like he's
a he's a trained dancer, and he's just doing his
perfect thing and at one point he's flying through the
air on wires and it's an amazing music video. So
this was Tom Hanks doing that by himself throughout this
entire thing. And maybe some shots too with like you know,

(10:18):
chat and and his uh and his partner Drew Arthur singing.
Then that would be much better. Again, I've had Tom Hanks.
I don't know why I'm spending so much time on this.
Actually this infuriator.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
My goodness.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
I love Tom Hanks, but yeah, they could have they
could have used them better for this, So I don't know.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Check it out. Okay, check it out.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
Let's let us know what you think about this music
video and the usage of mister Hanks and compare.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
It to Uit Groats. Is Tom Hanks, I hear.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
So he's not in that. He's just referenced a.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Lot they use I mean they use his face, the
like superimposed his face over. So the band is Groats
E R O A T S. And the song is
called Tom Hanks and it's got like Ryan's in there.
The cast of Astronaut movie, the Forrest Gump scenes and yeah,

(11:12):
Steven it too.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Okay, I see what they're doing there. Okay, Yeah, that's
more creative. Yeah, okay, yeah appropriate. I already I already
liked this one better than this one. Okay, again, we
spend way too much time on this topic.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Moving on, Let's.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Move on to something that should be well worth our
time and I pray, and that is the cast announcement
for Avengers Doomsday Marvel. There they're just going out there,
you know, they're going guns of blazon announcing what appears
to be the vast majority of the cast for the
next Avengers movie, revealing the names, and a lot of

(11:52):
these people are people that we haven't seen fill these
roles in over ten years, so we have to list
in front of us, and so we'll go down on
you know, some of the you know, the O g Avengers,
and some newcomers and some new upcoming films. But of
course we have folks like Chris Hemsworth reprising his role
as Thor, Vanessa Kirby coming in as Sue Storms. She

(12:13):
will be appearing in the new Fantastic Four movie. Anthony
Mackie of course, coming back as Captain America, Sebastian Stan,
Bucky Barnes, Letitia Wright as Shurry aka the Black Panther, Jamie,
want to take it away?

Speaker 3 (12:29):
Yeah, So Paul Rudd is back as Aunt Man. We've
got Wyatt Russell, who's j Walker. And now this one
I wasn't as familiar with No More? Who are you
plays No More?

Speaker 2 (12:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Yeah, so he was in the Third Black Panther, the
one where Sherry becomes a Black Panther.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
All right, yeah, did you see that one?

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Oh no, not not the Third Black Panther. It's Black
Panther two Wakanda Forever. Yeah, and so yeah, that's the
one without I'm blanking on his name, but the original
Black Panther because he passed away anyway, So he's a
name war the the Aztec kind of like underwater superpowered guy,

(13:19):
the villain.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
Okay, and then we've got to see Liu as a
shank Chi. I'm really excited.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
About Evan moss Is also as Ben Grimm, the Thing
from the Fantastic Four.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
And is he the original? No?

Speaker 1 (13:36):
No, no, he's the new one, the one right, he's
the new one. Yeah, the original one is. And I'm
blanking on I'm so bad, Like I know all these actors,
but just blanking on all their names too.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
But a long day.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
Sorry, it's been a long day, James, It has been
a long day.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
But Husman, by the ways, you were trying to.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
Think of before, Oh, Michael Chicklis, Michael Chicklas. Michael Chicklas
was the Thing in the original Fantastic Four or the
late you know, two thousands Fantastic Four with Chris Evans
when he was the human Torch. But we have Florence
Peel bringing back her role as a Yelena Belova Kelsey Grammer.

(14:20):
He's reprising his role as Hank McCoy aka Beast. He
made a short appearance in another Marvel movie recently where
he was like in the end credits, reprising his role
as Beast. Lewis Pulman as Century, Daniel Ramirez as Joaquin
Taurus aka the New Falcon, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm right.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
Harbor Red Guardian. We've got Winston Duke back as Mbaku.
I love him so much, Hannah John Kaman as Ghost,
Tom Hillston of course as a Loki, and the Og
Professor x Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen as Magneto. You know,

(15:05):
all coming back. We've got the original Nightcrawler, Alan Cummings,
We've got Rebecca Remained back as Mystique, James Marsden as
Cyclops that you know, we haven't seen them all right
in ten years?

Speaker 2 (15:19):
Yeah, And.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
The one that I'm most happy for, even though you know,
I don't know that this is my favorite character, but
I'm so so happy for Channing Tatum because his Gambit
is coming back from Deadpool right where it premiered, and
this is a character that he's been trying to get
to work for so so long, so it looks like

(15:45):
Gambits Channing Tatum's Gambit is still alive and Grumbral the
very very last one.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
James mister Pedro Pascal as mister Fantastic great Great casts
all around. So this follows the story of like you know,
the comic version. What the comic story is is Emperor Doom,
which is Doctor Doom. This is when he enslaves the
world by harnessing the power of the Purple Man, amplifying

(16:16):
you through the power through a powerful artifact, and broadcasting
his mind controllabilities out into the world. And so yeah,
so this has a lot of i think multi verse
aspects to it, So we're seeing different versions of these
characters being brought in and there's kind of a cross
where these different multiverses have to work together in order

(16:37):
to defeat Doctor Doom, which is going to be reprised
by by Robert Downey Jr. Which ironically he's not mentioned
on this list, right, but he will be because he's
the big bad Yeah, he.

Speaker 3 (16:52):
Was there as they made these announcements. Ardij Ardij no
longer iron Man but now coming back the MCU and
this new iteration Doomsday as doctor Doom.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
Yeah, I'm see who am I looking forward to the
most coming back let's see or being introduced. I like
Patrick Stewart. You know Patrick Stewart. I think somebody has
said like he's like his version of Professor Ax has
died three times over the course of several franchises, and
so this would be his fourth returns as Charles Xavier.

(17:30):
Rebecca Romayne is Mystique. That's cool. So I think that's funny.
Like you, we don't have Jennifer Lawrence. Maybe she just
is tired of getting painted purple or blue whatever color
she is. But but Rebecca Romayne coming back as mystique,
so that's really cool. You know the O G X men,
that's awesome. Sebastian Stan, you know, I'm a Stan for
Sebastian Stan. So whenever he's able to make a make

(17:53):
an appearance, that's that's good.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
And like I mentioned Baku Winston Duke, I love that guy.
I love him every time he's on screen. He just
makes me smile. And Pedro Man mister fantastic in real
life and now on the screen. Very very excited to
see how he's going to play with all of these

(18:18):
other characters in one movie. You know, what was so
great about the original Avengers, James was the dynamic between
the different characters. How do you feel the dynamic between
this very expansive list told.

Speaker 1 (18:35):
Play out, Well, it's going to be a balancing act,
of course. And the Russo brothers they're directing this one
as well, and so you know, they directed Infinity War,
they directed an Endgame. So I think you're dealing with
just you know, maybe the same amount, if not a
little bit more than what they dealt with in those
previous Avengers films. So I think if anybody can can

(18:56):
handle that balance, it's them. I know they've kind of
been on been on somewhat of a losing streak with
some of their non Marvel MCU related movies that that
have been bombing on Netflix, both in regards to critics, reviews,
and and people watching them. But you know, they haven't

(19:17):
swung out when it comes to Marvel or the MCU movies.
And so if anybody, as I said, can do this,
can rain in all these these actors, these characters and
put it in a you know, cohesive, uh storyline, I
think I think I think it's in good hands. So
I'm excited. I'm curious of who will be the main

(19:38):
players because you know, again you have so many actors,
but of course you're going to have to have maybe
three or four five standouts that are going to be
throughout the entire film or the majority of this film. Well,
you have everybody else kind of popping in and out,
So I wonder who the main focus will be revolving around.
So that's that's what That's what I'm most interested in,
all right, But.

Speaker 3 (20:01):
Name the last question? You have hope? You have hope
for this next phase of the mc U.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
I don't even know if phases matter anymore. Yeah, I
don't think phases matter anymore. I think people are I
think everything's kind of blurred now in regards to you know,
shows and movies. And I know they were trying to
start a new phase with with what's his name, the
guy who's gonna be playing Jonathan Majors, who's gonna be

(20:32):
playing the the next big Bad, But then that fell through,
and then after that fell through, and then other some
kind of flops or movies or shows that weren't heavily uh,
you know, well received. I think phases are kind of
like they're focusing less and less on. This is phase five.
Now we're entering phase six. This is just kind of like, okay,

(20:53):
this we're going in this direction now and we're hoping
this is good.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
Please stick with us, please, it's gonna be good.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
But we're pulling out all the shots we have. Robert
Downey Junior again, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
Right, so yeah, despiration.

Speaker 3 (21:13):
Speaking of desperation to get people out into the theater's
Disney desperate. But the whiff of desperation surrounding the Snow
White movie recent really released is pungent. It is pungent.
There have been so many controversies swirling around a Snow

(21:39):
White live action film that just came out, and it's
it's been pretty bad. It's pretty bad. I think it
is fair to say, with all of the negative press,
the negative reviews, the controversies with the actors, budgets, I

(22:00):
went and I saw this movie in the theater where
with my kids, and spoiler alert, was not that bad?
Can I say.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
That that's not a spoiler that's a review.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
Okay, there here's my review. It's not that bad, not
that bad, it's not that bad good.

Speaker 1 (22:27):
You wouldn't go as far to say that it's kind
of good, like the Bar is not that bad, but
it doesn't reach kind of good.

Speaker 3 (22:35):
I think that if you go into this movie with
the understanding that the dwarves are going to be like
CGI abominations, and you accept that and you let it go, right,
let it go, let it go, and you just go
into this movie with an open mind, you're going to
come out entertained. It's actually pretty good, I would dare

(22:59):
say that, is, yeah, pretty good. I've seen a lot
of movies lately, Jane, and there have been much more
your stinkers than this one. There have been movies that
I could not eat my eyes on, like The Lion King,
where I was literally motion sick and I could not
watch it and I didn't like the music or the
story or anything about it. There's just been a bunch

(23:21):
of other like stinkers that are way worse than this
than what the negative you know press gives credit for
you know is trying to say about this film is
not It is actually a pretty decent live action remake.
When you stand it up against other live action remakes

(23:42):
of kids movies like this, I'd say it solidly in
the middle of the pack. Is not that bad.

Speaker 1 (23:51):
So so, how how close to the original story is
this one, Like, what's the what's the premise to the plot?

Speaker 3 (23:56):
Great, So just to give people a refresher in snow White,
you know, since it's been like nineteen thirty seven since
this came out, But of course there have been many
iterations of it. Fleeing from the evil Queen, snow Right
finds refuge with gope, bashful, grumpy, sneezy, happy duck and sleepy.
And when the palace guards want a mission to bring

(24:18):
her back, a commoner in his group of Woodland bendits
band together to protect snow White. So that's one of
the big differences here is there's no Prince Charming who
comes in and, you know, to save the day and
save the princess and defeat the queen. This version of

(24:41):
snow White is much more proactive, and she's courageous and
she is fair, and she is strong and she is
brave that I don't think that they do it in
a way that's very like in your face, like I'm
sure woke, I am different, like I don't need It's
not like that at all. I think it was actually

(25:03):
a really natural progression from I had this wonderful family
and we had this beautiful kingdom and this evil person
came in and took it all away from us, and
I'm a slave, and I know this is wrong, but
I'm super scared and powerless and hopeless. And like the
story of her having to flee from the queen and

(25:27):
finding the cores and kind of slowly coming into the
realization that she is the one who has to step
up and save her kingdom and kind of kind of
slowly building that courage and slowly gaining allies. I thought
it was really natural and a good message for kids.

(25:48):
So my kids really liked it. I've been taken them
to a lot of movies with me, and there have
been movies where, you know, we're meant for kids, that
they couldn't sit through. They were running around the theater.
They were going crazy this movie at their attention throughout.
So not only do I think that it was a
sufficient plot, I thought the music was good as well,
and my son liked songs too.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
Realized musical.

Speaker 3 (26:14):
It is a musical. It keeps some of the classics
like the high Hole, High Hole and the whistle while
you Work, so it does have some of those classic songs,
has a number of new songs, and I think that
are that are equally kind of fun and exciting and

(26:36):
moved the plot align along. And my son really liked it.
He really really dug the soundtrack. And I want to say,
my favorite song of this whole thing is something called
Princess Problems, where it's a song about the commoner who
uh is the head of the Woodland bandits and this

(26:58):
helping snow White and he's like, come on, we've got
to been together, and he's like, that sounds like a
princess problem. I live in the real world, lady, like,
we can't do this, And it was a really sort
of meta, self deprecating sort of song, poking fun at
the princess trope and all of that. I thought. I
was delightful. I freaking loved it.

Speaker 2 (27:20):
I loved it.

Speaker 3 (27:20):
That was my favorite song. This song, this movie's even
poking fun at itself. I feel like the way that
they ended it names was very much like Wish that
recently came out. And if you saw the end of Wish,
then you've seen the end of Snow White.

Speaker 1 (27:39):
So I don't mind for spoilers. Do you want do
you wanna? Do you wanna go into spoilers. Uh, before
we do that really quick, what was the theater experience like?
Was it a packed house? Was it was it you know,
misso halfway or what?

Speaker 3 (27:52):
I went on a Tuesday night. It was fairly full,
which is unusual for Tuesday night. So I says, doing
pretty good. We were a group of teenagers that were
in front of us, and for as the movie was
getting like, you know, the lights start to dim and
they start singing hi ho hi.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
Kids. The kids probably.

Speaker 1 (28:19):
Probably it's even worse than normal annoying kids. And that's
coming from somebody who was a theater kid in high school.

Speaker 3 (28:26):
Yeah, that's said with love, right, Yeah, Yeah, getting a
little bit into spoilers. I think that there are two
things that really work for this film.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
Okay, let's start with just the.

Speaker 3 (28:37):
Ending, and then we'll go into the dwarves and the
kind of controversy surrounding that, because there's a lot of
meat there. As far as the ending goes, it was
not It's charming swooping in to save the day. It
was not snow White raising an army and you know,
and riding a horse in and slaying the queen. It

(29:01):
was actually snow White is given an opportunity for violence.
The Evil Queen comes down, played by Galgado, who did
a decent, you know, job as the Evil Queen, and
she hands her a knife and she's like, you want
to take your kingda back? Take it stab me now,
and you know, it's telling her you're not strong enough.

(29:22):
You're not strong enough to take this kingdom back, and
you know, in snow White it's like, no, I'm not
going to do this with violence. And the Evil Queen
orders snow White to be killed, and the soldiers come forward,
and snow White is like, Paul, you knows each of
these soldiers by name. He's like, I remember you were

(29:42):
a farmer. You lived with your wife, You grew cherries,
you know, and you shared them with everyone who had
a great life. Hey Larry, that wasn't the name. But
hey Larry, you know you used to cook. You used
to cook apple pies, you know, and you would you
would give food to anyone who who needed it, even
if they didn't have a dime in their pocket, you know.

(30:03):
And she starts reminding everyone of what they lost and
who took it from them. Right, it was the Evil Queen.
The Queen stole everything from everyone, right, And in deciding
to put down their weapons and no longer listen to

(30:23):
the lying evil queen to take her power away. Very
much like the end of Wish where everyone has to
band together and decide, hey, we're not We're not gonna
talk with it anymore. We're just not going to listen anymore.
We're not going to follow their orders. We're going to
band together and take away villain's power. It just seems

(30:46):
like I really dig that message, and it seems like
something that's it's more of a mature sort of message
that they're pushing instead of like, oh, I'm just gonna
raise an army and slash down the queen. And so
I really dug it. I liked it. I thought it
was a good message for kids. I think that they

(31:07):
also did half decent job with the issue of the
doors right, so James right?

Speaker 2 (31:15):
The dwarves yea, they.

Speaker 3 (31:16):
Are as I mentioned, a cgi abominations, no way around
it look terrible. I hated looking at them and the
whole thing about them being I needed characters and not
actual human doors. You know, what's a big to do. Also,
Disney didn't want to like ruffle feathers by casting little

(31:41):
people and then getting criticized for that every feather anyway, right.

Speaker 1 (31:50):
I had heard the intention was always to actually have
CGI characters, because I know there was I guess one
of the early pictures as somebody took and it went viral,
like showing snow White being being followed by like, you know, uh,
seven other people, but they look like normal sized people,
and so they were it was called like snow White
Inner seven roommates or college roommates. And then and then

(32:14):
people were like, oh, like they should have hired yeah,
like little people to play the role. And then when
the CGI news came out, people are like, oh my god,
they're cgiing people. So I guess, like, I guess originally
the plan was to always do CGI, but maybe those
actors were like there just to be you know, physically
there in the moment for spacing purposes or for voicing

(32:35):
purposes or whatever. But yeah, so I guess the intention
was to always make them CGI, which again people still,
as you mentioned, still have some issue with.

Speaker 3 (32:43):
So the way that they rationalized this in the movie
is that they are not actually dwarves.

Speaker 2 (32:49):
They're like magic.

Speaker 3 (32:50):
Scores are not mentioned, right, They're actually just magical forest
creatures who are hundreds of years old, and they're actually
voiced by by by doors by little people actors, which
is I suppose that to compromise, you know, the issue

(33:11):
being like, these are seven principal roles that could have
gone to little people and didn't. But I guess they
got around that by like, look, you've got a principal
voice actor, and there was a little person who was
cast in a different role as one of the forest bandits.
But I don't know. I noticed that in Wicked as well,

(33:32):
the munchkins from munchkin Land all regular sized people, you know,
and your dinklage had started a conversation about whether it's
appropriate to continue passing little people in these you know, roles.
That might have been the meaning. I'm not here to
offer an opinion on that. I'm just saying I think
the way that they kind of explained that these are

(33:54):
woodland creatures and not actually human doors, it kind of worked,
but it was also a confusing eh. So that was
just I wasn't happy about the dwarves at all, really much.
So I would say go in with an open mind
and just except that you're gonna hate dwarves, and it

(34:15):
will be a half decent movie, and that's my review.

Speaker 1 (34:20):
Actually, well, so far, you know, it's made or it's
about to, if not already cross the one hundred million
dollar mark. So people are watching it, and I have
heard mixed things. You know, there's one during the screener
for Death of a Unicorn, which we were reviewed on
the last episode of the Hub on Hollywood, we're saying
that one person said that they hated snow White, that

(34:43):
it was atrocious, it was the worst thing ever. But
then you hear other reviewers, you know, online, and they
say they really enjoyed it. They said the music was
really good, and it's something that they would recommend other
families and kids watch. And at the end of the day,
this movie is directed and marketed for children. So if
young children like it, so maybe the forty or fifty

(35:07):
year old man who was watching Death of a Unicorn
didn't like snow White because he didn't resonate with it
or you for whatever reason. But but you know, that's
on that's that's on them. But exactly this makes little kids,
like you know, kids, your age, your kid's age, happy
and entertained. Then then I think it did what it

(35:28):
was trying to do.

Speaker 3 (35:30):
That's what it's all about. My kids were very entertained.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
They liked it.

Speaker 3 (35:34):
That's who the movie is for. So all of the
other controversies very unfortunate. Rachel Ziegler spouting off her mouth
about have topic, political issues.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
And the other.

Speaker 3 (35:47):
Yeah, exactly. So, you know, waiting till after the promo, man,
after the promotion of the movie, Disney doing image control,
but far too late. And one of the things that
Disney's trying to do film seats right now, James is
offering a free trip to Disneylands in California. Have you
watched the movie in theaters? Between now and I think

(36:11):
the first week of April. You're entered into the contest
to win a really nice trip Disney. But they're they're
pulling out all the stops and hopefully they kind of
learn from this experience because all of the negative publicity
blown away out of proportion. Because this is definitely a
decent movie in my eyes.

Speaker 1 (36:31):
But you recommend for a family using families and kids,
absolutely go take them. Okay, I do want to ask
you one last question before we move on to our
last topic.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
But and this is a.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
Spoiler spoiler, spoiler spoiler for snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Your initial I just want to get your quick thought
on this, Jamie. I saw a clip that's been circulating
online and it shows Dope speaking. Yes, your reaction, your thoughts.

Speaker 3 (37:01):
I don't remember the original?

Speaker 2 (37:02):
Does he speak in the original?

Speaker 3 (37:06):
Well, look, James, there's an arc where she really connects
with Dopie and he is afraid to speak up, and
she helps him to find his courage. And it's part
of that whole development of going from from a place
of fear to a place of courage and being able
to stand up for yourself. So that's why that is.

(37:28):
And I thought that it worked really well in the
context of the movie. So the Pooh cooers can who
out forty two percent on Rotten Tomatoes, seventy four percent
approval on fandango, seven percent of Google users like this movie.
Reviews are all over the place. I say, going with

(37:48):
an open mind, make up your own mind. It is
absolutely a good movie.

Speaker 1 (37:54):
It's not terrible, and I'm out all right, So Jamie
had to leave the building, but I wanted to make
that we hit on this last topic before before wrapping up.
The Hollywood Reporter had this interesting article talking about the
theater going experience for moviegoers with disabilities, and I was
actually very surprised with some of these numbers, some of

(38:15):
these findings.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
So I guess.

Speaker 1 (38:17):
There was this study done by the organization called Inevitable Foundation,
and it surveyed over one hundred disabled moviegoers about their
experiences at theaters over the past two years, and it said,
you know, a positive thing for those you know, like
Mike myself who support movie theaters and want them to succeed.

(38:39):
Sixty five percent of those surveyed, they said that they
would prefer to watch a movie at a theater instead
of watching it at home, watching it surrounded by amazing
sound and maybe you know, get a concession or two.

Speaker 2 (38:53):
At the theater.

Speaker 1 (38:55):
Sixty five percent said they would rather go that being said,
only four four percent of respondents said that the movie
theaters met their ideal accessibility needs, meaning ninety six people
out of one hundred had a negative experience when it
came to whether it came to finding proper seating arrangements

(39:18):
or whether that came to restroom accessibility, sensory options, and
and open captioning. Forty two percent of respondents couldn't find
accessible seating, sixty eight percent lacked accessible restrooms.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
Also those with.

Speaker 1 (39:35):
Sensory issues that they preferred low sensory theaters with raised
a lighting. And the report concluded that theater owners and
distributors should reimagine accessibility as an investment to foster loyalty,
build trust, and to capture an underserved market. You know,
theaters they're pulling out all the stops right now to

(39:57):
try to get people back into the seats, whether that
is expanding the menu, whether that's expanding the literal size
of the screen. But I think what this report shows
is that there's still much more room and for improvement
and work that needs to be done in regards to
again making it accessible for everybody. And I don't know

(40:18):
what this means. If that means providing more space for
wheelchair accessibility for those you know who can walk but
may have a difficult time going upstairs, I don't know
what you do. But this I think is a good
report or story to raise awareness about that. So I'm
actually very curious those who listen to the podcast, who

(40:39):
watch The Help on Hollywood, what's your movie theater going experience?
Do you have a disability, whether that's a physical one,
or a sensory one or you know, what have you.
I'm curious about what challenges or obstacles you experience and
whether the theater of choice that you like that you pick,
whether they are a commodating or you know, the offer

(41:02):
things that can help you to improve that theater going
experience for yourself, Like what would you improve on? What
would you suggest theaters do to make it better for everybody?
So yeah, I don't know. This is a report that
you could check out on the Hollywood Reporter. It's titled
only four percent of disabled moviegoers report ideal theater accessibility conditions.
