(02:36):
The Texas women's volleyball team volleyball. The Texas women's basketball
team had a hard fought win last night against Missouri.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Let me just tell you this.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
Going into the ballgame, you heard from Vick Schaeffer yesterday
talking about what's been going on.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Mark, you had the flu.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
We've had the flu in our house, and it'll knock
you out. And what it did was took five players,
five players away from the University of Texas basketball team.
But that didn't stop them short bench, but they went
out and did what they needed to do to get
a seventy to sixty one win. The two players of
(03:17):
the week, the Natesmith Player of the Week Madison Booker,
and the SEC Player of the Week Taylor Jones, both
did what they were supposed to do, and that was
handle their business on the block, and Texas was able
to get the victory.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
They were able to get the victory.
Speaker 5 (03:33):
But guys, if you feel yourself getting sick, you've got
to isolate yourself from other people. Because whatever this new
blue bug is, it is aggressive.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
It will go through a team, a house.
Speaker 5 (03:49):
Everybody's going to get it if you don't really watch yourself.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
So that's the health disclaimer.
Speaker 5 (03:57):
Now as it relates to the women's team, hard they
did really well.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
With what they had and.
Speaker 5 (04:07):
Madison book of course, with Taylor Jones stepped up and
as Danny Green always said, they are who he thought
they were and they did what was necessary. But the
Texas Texas bench stepped up. So I'm sure kach Schaefe
was very proud of that.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
And one thing that I continue to look at, and
you talked about the bench.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
There wasn't much of a bench and.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
We were watching and they got a couple camera angles.
There wasn't a lot of people sitting on that bench,
but they were able to come out and play well
and be consistent. Madison Booker played all forty minutes of
the basketball game, did what she was supposed to do.
She was six of twelve from the field. She had
six boards. Taylor Jones six of twelve from the field,
(04:54):
had six boards. Taylor had seventeen points, and Madison Booker
had sixteen points. Shaye Holly didn't have her best shooting night,
but when they needed her most, she made some shots
and clutch time. I saw a lot of Jordan Lee
last night. Man, Jordan Lee is somebody. She stepped up
(05:18):
and did her thing thirty two. I'm not going to
mess up this young lady's name. When atunda is I
think it is how you pronounce it. She was amazing.
She was the one. I told you at the very
beginning of the year, I really liked her because she
has so much length that she can help this basketball
team out.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
But we gotta get Rory going, man.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
I mean, she had a tough night last night, but
she did have ten assists, so she was doing what
was asked of her. But it just looks like her, Yeah,
but it looked like a little bit of her was
a little apprehensive about shooting.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
You know, she comes out.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
They showed her workout every single day of what time
she gets to the gym for a seven or eight
o'clock game, and how much work she puts in for
shoot around and all the weightlifting and all that stuff.
I think sometimes and every athlete is different. I used
to not want to take batting practice when I was
(06:18):
struggling a little bit. And again I'm not saying she's
like not contributing. I just told you she had ten assists.
But I used to always walk away from batting practice.
I would go get my ground balls, I would go
get my work in. I would probably go inside and
hit off the tee or something like that. But I
would just avoid all the thinking of an at bat,
(06:42):
of an approach of everything.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
And just go play.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
And I think sometimes players just need to walk away and.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Just come out and use their natural instinct.
Speaker 5 (06:52):
Yeah, I think that Rory's team is going to have
to push shir I don't know if you have a
went through a drought or had the yifs or anything
like that. The only way that you break that is
if your team just start going, Hey, off the screen.
I need you to knock it down, Hey off this
(07:15):
double screen. Shoot it right off the rip like you
I'm clear to lane, like, get to the basket, high
pick and roll like. The coaches got to be a
part of it, and the team has got to be
a part of it.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
And you got to show confidence even if they missed.
Speaker 5 (07:32):
You pat them on the butt and you say, hey,
come on, man, step up.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
Like I think that's what she needs.
Speaker 5 (07:40):
She needs an overall effort of the team to get
a going once they get hurt going bro. They I
don't know if that anybody could beat them, include South Carolina.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
Yeah, they are a very very tough, tough team to
deal with. And you saw the resilience of what they
were able to do last night, and they can continue
to find ways to get the dub they got big
matchup coming up this weekend in College Station. They go
to take on Texas A and M Sunday at five pm.
(08:11):
That game will also be on SEC Network. Texas is
recognized as one of the top teams in the country,
and they keep finding ways to get it done. As
I said, the one thing that I looked at last night,
Mark was the same thing that happened in the Texas
men's game. The physicality of the basketball game.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
I think that's just the SEC That's just.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
What I'm gonna have to chalk it up to, because
both of those teams were they were fighting the entire time. Missouri,
this is a team that on the season they're twenty
excuse me, twelve and eleven and one in seven in
SEC play. So their coach probably just said, just go
out there and beat the hell out of everybody. Just
(08:55):
go be as physical as you possibly can. And that's
exactly what they did. They were very, very physical from
the outset. They ended up having twenty one team fouls.
Texas had eleven. It was just a rough and tough
basketball game.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
It was and very chippy.
Speaker 5 (09:16):
But you know, to Missouri's to the observation about them,
they only had three players that can really go, Like
you know, the forwards, the main forward, power forward, and
the two guards were good. Everybody else, man, they just misshots.
(09:37):
They couldn't handle that Texas defensive pressure.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
You found that a.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
Lot of those girls would get the ball and when
they felt the pressure, they passed it right away. Here
you take it. Yeah, they didn't want to smoke and
I didn't even I didn't even. I never factored that
in with Coach Shafer. Coach Shaffer, his pressure, his defensive
pressure make players that are not really confident in the game.
(10:04):
He'll break up, yeah, and he'll bring them early. And
that's that's what they did to Missouri. YI on fighting though, Yeah,
I was impressed.
Speaker 4 (10:12):
I was impressed with the fact of he had a
game plan, he's stuck with it, and his game plan
was to press the entire game.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
There was no letting up.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
There was a lot of physicality, there was a ton
ton of things that were You just kept looking at
it and was like, man, they are a physical, physical
basketball team. But the fact of the matter was Coach
Shaffer said, we're gonna press, and we're gonna continue to press,
and when they're done, we're gonna press some more and
(10:43):
it was Taylor Jones at one point, I kept saying
she needs to get back into the backcourt because she's
having to run up and down the field the court
the entire time.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
But you also look at.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
It and you're like, well, that's what coach Shaffer wanted, That's
what coach Schaefer needed, and that's exactly but he got
from that team and they brought the energy the entire time.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
Hard like that.
Speaker 5 (11:06):
That's a good ploy for Cooch Shaeffer though, Yeah, like
the good.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
All of those girls that haven't.
Speaker 5 (11:12):
Played a lot, let them run, run, run.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
It's gonna as long as gonna help you defense, no doubt,
no doubt.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
We're just getting started on a field. Good Friday edition
of The Morning Kickoff. When we come back, Arch Manning
is his time and we got a chance to listen
to him as he sat down with Marty Smith.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
We'll talk about it right here on.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
The Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio and thirteen.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Hundred The Zone.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
Welcome back to the next segment of the Morning Kickoff
right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
It is Friday, so that can only mean one thing.
That means you get over to AM thirteen hundred The
Zone on X and cast your vote for the COVID
Huddle best plays.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Of the week.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
And we started off with Taylor Jones being named SEC
Player of the Week, Trey Johnson being named SEC Freshman
of the Week, Michaleb Blakes of Vanderbilt scores fifty three
points last night. She scored fifty three points, an SEC
(12:30):
record yesterday, and Wimby makes the All Star team. Get
over there and cast your vote right now, Mark, I
want to get into this conversation because the arch Manning
era is starting. Yesterday you see the release of him
signing a contract, an endorsement deal with Red Bull, and
(12:54):
it was a pretty dope commercial if you ask me.
They did a really good job with that. But you know,
the era is now. Everybody's been clamoring for it. Everybody's
been wanting the conversation of an Arch Manning leading this
Texas football team, and they just desired him the entire time. Well,
(13:16):
the time is now, my.
Speaker 5 (13:17):
Friend, Not is it now, but it's tomorrow and the
next day and the next day. This cycle is never
going to end harder until he either graduates or leaves
early to.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
Go to the pros. Like people have been wanting him.
Speaker 5 (13:36):
They've been clamoring for him, Like they even to the
point where Quinn yours was a really special quarterback here
and they wanted to move on.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
They're like, oh he good, all right, great, good job
canan By. Yeah they couldn't. They couldn't wait for Queen
to leave. Yeah. I always put a disclaimer on everything.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
Be careful what you asked for, because Archer is gonna
have his struggles, and the last thing that you won't
is for him to go through a struggle and then
feel the pressure of the university coming down on it,
because he's gonna throw it interception and then he's gonna
(14:22):
fumble the ball and the crowd is gonna go absolutely
just nuts with grief and misery and doubt, and like,
why wait a minute, we should have kept cleaning, Like
it's gonna I'm telling you it's gonna happen.
Speaker 6 (14:39):
I'm not.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
I'm not.
Speaker 5 (14:40):
I'm not making this up. It's gonna happen. He's gonna
have to be able to weather those storms.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
Yeah, he definitely. I think he's built for it. But
it's ironic that you bring that up because he was
asked yesterday.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Well, now I don't know when the interview was done,
but it.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
Was released yesterday. He was asked about that playing and
not playing situation, because you get in there, you get
lathered up, but then you got to go sit on
the bench and wait your turn. And so he was
asked by Marty Smith Love ESPN all about playing and
not playing when you were.
Speaker 7 (15:12):
In a position in Queenn got hurt this year and
you started.
Speaker 8 (15:16):
What was that experience like for you to actually get
the taste of being the gut It was awesome.
Speaker 6 (15:22):
I think my first start against ULM I kind of
forced some shots downfield and it was a little bit
greedy than the next week against MISSUS State Excel. Then
the hardest part is you get a little taste of
what it's like and you.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Love it, and then you go back to not playing.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
That was pretty tough, Yeah, and you know as well
as I do. I mean, you think that you're gonna
get your opportunities, you're gonna put yourself in the right position,
and then all of a sudden, what you gotta go
back to the bench and wait your time. But every
time he came in, he did some good things. He
made some plays, but again, you know, there were some
(15:56):
times where you could tell that the game was a
little bit faster than what he was expecting and there
was going to be an adjustment period that need to
be made.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
Well.
Speaker 5 (16:04):
I think the main thing in my assessment of Arch
is he was put in a position where it wasn't
his bow he was. He was doing what was Taylor
made for Quinn in that offense. Coach sark is a
smart man and very aware of what he has. I
(16:25):
can see Arch not only stretching the field with you know,
being a precision passer, but I can see him being
Tim Tebow.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
I can see him in the power offense.
Speaker 5 (16:40):
More a lot more zone read a lot more Jalen
Hurts type of college football.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
It's about winning right, yep.
Speaker 5 (16:53):
And to have a six four twenty five pounds quarterback
that can speed, can get up to twenty two miles
an hour, like you don't just let that guy sit
in the pocket.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
And Coach Sartin knows what he has more than me
and you do.
Speaker 5 (17:13):
I can see them lining up in full wide with
a running back in the backfield, and the backfield goes
in the motion. Now you can tell that their man
or his own and when you get there aren't you
just take off and run for seven yards and slot.
There's a lot of things that they can do with
him that they couldn't do with Quinn.
Speaker 4 (17:33):
If you think that, if you think that Quinn would
have been a little bit more mobile, you think people
would have been a little bit more in his corner.
I never left his corner, by the way, I just
want to put that on the record. I thought Quinn
was the right choice, and he had the most experienced
and coach Sark knew exactly what he wanted to do
with him. But you start to look at at you know,
(17:55):
the mobility and the options of being able to get
out of the pocket and make some plays with your
legs consistently, and the fact two of what you said,
I mean, Arch is a big guy. He can move around,
and he's more physical, and he can probably take a
little bit more of the hits in college than it
is in the pro Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
Absolutely.
Speaker 5 (18:15):
You know somebody like a Josh Allen, who you know,
he's an anomaly. Same thing with Jalen Hurts and and
Lamar Jackson, they're they're there are three of a thousand
and maybe even more than that. But in college, the
college style, you can do more of that and and
(18:37):
have success. And I mean we'll be here all day
naming quarterbacks that were able to run the ball. Look
at Will Howard. Will Howard, I mean he from the
time that Texas played them first two years ago to now,
he's still a running quarterback and he's big.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (18:59):
I think that arch Man and is better than him
by a long shot.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
So yeah, I can see arch Man developing into.
Speaker 5 (19:08):
Tim Tebow two time champion or one time champion and
then go and play for whatever team is had the
worst record for that's.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
Arch is a better quarterback than t Bow.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
As far as throwing ability, is not that great of
a throwing quarterback and his upside in the pro level.
Speaker 5 (19:29):
It's about the system yeah, yeah, that he was in
and how it was Taylor made for his ability.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
Well, I remember, I remember started talking about the the
ability for drawing up the plays and the plays that
were drawing up. He saw that he had more deep
shots than he had for any other quarterback, and he's like, man,
I think we had a lot of big chunk plays
that we were trying to develop there. But one of
the things that Quinn was a Quinn sorry, one of
(19:58):
the things that Arch was asked about again, was the
entirety of his college experience. What has that been like?
What's it like walking around campus? And what have you
learned since you've been here?
Speaker 8 (20:10):
How do you describe your college experience so far?
Speaker 6 (20:14):
Like?
Speaker 1 (20:14):
Can you walk?
Speaker 7 (20:15):
What's it like walking across campus?
Speaker 6 (20:16):
It depends only today you're trying to selfies a lot
of selfies. Yeah, just keep it on the run. Selfies
aren't bad though, you know, didn't keep walking?
Speaker 7 (20:25):
Just don't stop?
Speaker 1 (20:25):
Yeah, just don't stop. That's what cuch shartony. Don't stop.
Speaker 7 (20:28):
How do you describe it?
Speaker 4 (20:29):
That's funny. That's funny too. Don't don't stops. Just keep
it moving, man, keep it moving. Yeah, selfies are good,
Like I like the way this kid thinks.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
Man.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
You know, he dropped his id early on his time
at the forty Acres and you know, people were giving
him a hard time. And now he's he's the man
on campus and I can see.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
I'm sure he's.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
One of those guys that's got to take a lot
of classes online as well.
Speaker 5 (20:59):
Yeah, I mean with all of the attention that he gives, uh,
and it would just be disruptive, you know, because he's
a he's a superstar. You look at right now, he's
the feature on ESPN a whole a whole year away
from the season starting. Like, what is it going to
(21:20):
be like in spring football? How many media outlets and
camera crews and everything's going to be there. It's gonna
be like hard knocks to him, Like he's got to
he's got to be prepared for. Uh what that struggle
is when you just need a break from people.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
Yeah, there's gonna be need to be a break a
lot of times. And speaking of break, that's what we're
about to do. We're about to take a break. We'll
hear more from Arch Manning and what's been going on
with him as well. But when we come back, the
NBA has another issue that we need to talk about
and we kind of last week when we were talking
(22:02):
about certain players. We'll talk about it right here on
the morning kick off on Sports Radio and thirteen hundred Designer.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
Mark Henry on the road, Harball, Hart and Khalil in studio. Mark,
what you're doing, man Man?
Speaker 5 (22:27):
I am here in Indianapolis, Indiana for Royal rumble.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
No I am not gonna be in the rumble. I
am here.
Speaker 5 (22:39):
For Russell Khan to sign autographs and also on Sunday, I'm.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Signing at the Toy Pit.
Speaker 5 (22:47):
It's one of the more incredible places that I've ever
been sign before, thirteen.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
Thousand square feet.
Speaker 5 (22:55):
If you think that the place in Dallas we went
to was big, this place is. You know that, Plus
it's absolutely incredible.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
That's awesome, man, Continue to put smiles on people's faces
that really still look up to you and what you've
been doing in your career. And you know, yesterday we
had a conversation about Triple H and what's been going
on with him. And you know, I saw Stephanie McMahon.
She's got a new show that's gonna be coming out
(23:27):
kind of like Peyton's Place if you remember that from
football on ESPN two. So pretty cool stuff, I mean
ESPN plus pretty cool stuff going on there. But some
things that aren't pretty cools.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
The allegations.
Speaker 4 (23:42):
Now, we've all been with our friends and watching the
game and seeing a guy not play very well or
a young lady not play very well.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
And one of the first things that come out of people's.
Speaker 4 (23:53):
Mouth is that dude, point shape that dude, man, that
dude is over there doing He's not playing well, He
points shaving, he points shame. Well, we had a John
Tay Porter situation that got him suspended for life in
the NBA. He's no longer able to play in the
NBA because of the allegation of him doing prop bets
(24:18):
that had some large wagers on it, some abnormal wagers
on certain players. If you were putting money on Lebron
James every night, people probably wouldn't look at it, and
you would bet the same amount or whatever it might
be people, it wouldn't bring up.
Speaker 1 (24:34):
A red flag.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
But if you're betting on a guy named John t Porter, yeah,
I know a lot of you are trying to figure
out who he is. He's not the name in the
NBA that you're looking for, or even Terry Roseier. Terry
Roseier seems to be caught up in a situation from
his days in Charlotte. Now Terry Roseier is now playing
(24:58):
for the Miami He we already know about the Miami
heats difficulties, but there was a gambling ring that was
that was accused of conspiring with John Tay Cook, so
they banned him from the league last April. Well, it
seems to be that Terry Rozier is in the allegations,
(25:18):
and now they're trying to figure out if he was
doing the exact same thing.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
So that's not good.
Speaker 4 (25:26):
It is not good, especially when the Feds are involved.
They don't show up unless they got something right.
Speaker 5 (25:34):
They got they got you doing something. They got a pigeon,
they got an email, a text message, they got.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
Facts.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
I don't know, people still facts, man, They just they
still got a fact.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
And they might have like one of those homing pigeons.
Speaker 5 (25:50):
Yeah, somebody got caught doing smoked signals.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
You guilty of sands Come when the fans come, Man,
they don't, they don't, they don't. They don't miss right.
Speaker 4 (26:01):
So here's where it gets a little sticky, they said
in said game. In a March of twenty twenty three,
when he was with the Charlotte Hornets, the.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
Hornets fell to the New Orleans.
Speaker 4 (26:14):
Pelicans one fifteen to ninety six. Rosier started recorded five
points on a pair of mad buckets, and he left
the game with a sore right foot after only playing
ten minutes. Now, Rosier has not been accused of any
wrongdoing by the NBA, this report says, but when the
(26:37):
Feds come a watching and a knocking and they are
starting to look at some unusual betting activity related to
Terry Rozier's performance. The league will conduct an investigation. Now, Mark,
(26:57):
there's been conversation all the time. You and I have
said it here and talked about certain players and just said,
wait a minute, why is this dude doing this? Yeah,
and the money that is involved in the game creates
that thought process of what in the wide world of sports.
(27:20):
Because of the fact that the NBA, the NFL, Major
League baseball, hockey, soccer, any sport where you can put
a wager on it is now partnering with said league,
It's going to create controversy moving forward.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
There's no doubt not only.
Speaker 5 (27:40):
They gonna create create some controversy looking into other people's careers,
is gonna throw up the red flag of all the
people that actually did because I'm telling you hard, it's
not an isolated incident, correct.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
There are other people.
Speaker 5 (28:00):
They have done it, They've been propositioned about doing it,
they tried to put it together themselves, and.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
Now it's going to come out and so we'll will.
So you know, people can't perform when they give me.
Speaker 5 (28:16):
I've seen a lot of times where people will get
in trouble and you will see their game. Just go
in the toilet, right because they can't focus, they can't think.
They feel like, you know what, man, they can out me.
I might as well just you know, pack it up now.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
And it's crazy too, because I come in here and
I tell you guys all the time about prop bets.
The Super Bowl is going to have prop bets, always does.
Every game has a prop bet. How many pass attimpts
do you think? How many passes do you think he's
going to throw in this game? How many insists is
(28:54):
he going to have? How many dunks? What color is
the gatorade that's going to be poured on the winning coach?
There's so many different prop bets that are out there.
How long is the national anthem during the game? There
is so many questions. Yes, there are so many questions
that are asked during this time that it seems like
(29:19):
we're in a place that they have to get it
under control.
Speaker 5 (29:24):
Bro, they have to get out of control. Yeah, I'm
gonna tell you this, throw this out there. Yeah, if
you give the death penalty and there's no conversations about
it afterwards, you're done. People won't stop doing it, yep.
Because if you give people leadway and say well there'll
(29:47):
be a suspension or fine or this that and that
that's given hope.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
Oh wow, I mean I can get away with it
and be Okay.
Speaker 5 (29:57):
My image might suffer, but I'm gonna still be able
to be in the game and get paid.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
No, you get charged, you get the death penalty. Well,
and the death penalty, my goodness.
Speaker 5 (30:12):
I'm talking about for a sport you never get to
play the professionals.
Speaker 4 (30:16):
Oh okay again, I was about to say, I'm like
the death penalty.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
I ain't safe taking him out back.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
Coming up next, there's another story that is out there
and it's not a fun one for someone from this area.
We'll discuss it right now on the morning kickoff on
sports Radio and thirteen hundred the Zone. We go from
(31:06):
one allegation to another allegation, and this one is kind
of a I don't even know how to address it properly.
MARKO to home. Yeah, it's a little too close to
home for a lot of people in this area. And
before I get into the conversation, I want to make
(31:28):
sure that we understand that he has Vietnam denied all
allegations and will continue to fight this for his family
and for everyone that is involved. Yesterday news came out
that Justin Tucker, former Texas longhorn and now kicker for
(31:49):
the Baltimore Ravens, one of the most accurate kickers in
NFL history, has now been accused.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
Of basically.
Speaker 4 (32:01):
Not to the extent, but it has a lot to
do with Deshaun Watson type of deals. The tweets came
out yesterday, but a lot of it have been talked
about in twenty twenty one and there was no news
of it. There were some stories that have happened throughout
these times, and Justin came out with the report yesterday
(32:26):
and wrote his own little note. It said, these allegations
in the Baltimore Banner article are about me are unequivocally false.
Throughout my career as a professional athlete, I have always
sought to conduct myself with the utmost professionalism, and I've
never been accused of any misconduct of any kind, and
(32:47):
I've never been accused of acting it properly in front
of a massage therapist or during a massage therapy session
on during where they was working on my body. I've
never received any complaints from I'm a massage therapist and
have never been dismissed from massage therapy or body work session,
and have never been told that I'm not welcoming a
(33:09):
spa or any place of business and accusing me of
this misconduct. THEMN article, he goes on and on and
on and talks about this is this tabloid fodder.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
It's not true.
Speaker 4 (33:21):
I don't know why people are coming after me like this,
And so to end it, he said, I cannot be
any clear. These allegations are false and incredibly hurtful to
both me and more importantly my family. Now Mark, Whenever
these types of situations come up, obviously people have to
(33:42):
do their due diligence. They have to research it and
can't always just run with what the story is because
of the fact that there's a lot of people that
are clout chasing, there's a lot of people that are
always deeming something in a way that maybe he didn't.
He passed on a lot of opportunities, right like he
(34:04):
wanted to move away from these people and not deal
with this type of deal. So there's a lot of
conversation that has been said and moved around during this time.
Now we have to give it grace. We got to
give it time to unfold. But still, when your name
is put in that type of situation, it's not a
(34:26):
good look.
Speaker 5 (34:27):
No, it's not at all. And a lot of people say,
where to smoke their fire. You have to take yourself
out of situations like that. If somebody is out for
you and they want to tornish your name, there's not
much you can do to stop them other than not
give them ammunition. Right, And a lot of people hard
(34:51):
They tend to think that everything is going to work
out if I don't say nothing. But sometimes silence is
a it is more louder. Yeah, yeah, it's louder. So
I'm glad that he was able to come out with
a statement. At least he knows, at least he's not
fearful of putting out the wrong message.
Speaker 4 (35:16):
Right, And of course you want to make sure that
you you cover yourself as well. I mean, it's just
one of those situations that you hate to hear about it,
you hate that it's being done. And just like when
you look at uh, when you look at that Terry
Rozier situation. Now obviously those are two different things, but
(35:36):
when you look at that situation, you understand that. Okay,
we got to figure out, Like I said, if the
fans are involved, it's a lot deeper than what we
see on the surface and them just saying no or
him denying the situation. But this type of deal, can
it be a he say, she say type of situation?
Speaker 1 (35:59):
You know what it can be.
Speaker 5 (36:02):
There's a gentleman that I know that works on me
that told me a story that one of the guys
that he used to work with got accused of being
handsy with being as a messeuse. And the guy basically
came out with a statement saying, listen, this lady she
(36:26):
didn't want to pay me and she put bad words
out on me. So we don't know the full story.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
It could be a case where you know, he went
somewhere and he.
Speaker 5 (36:39):
Didn't think that their service was good and he told
me he wasn't gonna pay, and then they decided to
throw sultan his name. We don't know what the case
might be, but I feel like we should give him
the benefit of doubt and wait before he's you know,
thrown under the bus. But being something like this, because
(37:02):
you know, sexual violations, you know, they right up there
with racial.
Speaker 4 (37:07):
Right right well and also looks at it too. You know,
I'm some people to recover from. People have asked the
question and it was written and it's been on our
message boards as well. Do you think he knew that
was coming down the line? And is that why he
performed so poorly this year? Is just because obviously you
(37:28):
know that they said that these reports have been out
there for quite some time.
Speaker 5 (37:34):
So that's what I was saying earlier, like have you
ever had the yips? Like is there something that you've
ever been so focused on that it took your attention
away from what you were supposed to be doing.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
Sports wise, family wives.
Speaker 5 (37:50):
Or whatever, Like it's hard to do your job and
you know that something is about to be released about
you that is either not true or right right.
Speaker 4 (38:02):
And you know, he's a guy that everybody I saw
on the news yesterday they were showing him singing his
opera and being, you know, in front of the orchestra,
being able to go out there and sing. We've heard
it hit the stories of him. He's a very talented,
talented human being, But you still don't want your name
(38:22):
being attached to this. They were also saying that there's
reports that he's going through a divorce. Is this part
of the divorce and just why he's going through the divorce.
There's just so many stories that is out there and
that could have played a part to him not being
as successful as a kicker this year than what he
normally is. So we shall see. We'd be wrong not
(38:46):
to talk about it. Therefore, that's why we did. But
some of these situations you got to let the dust
settle and see what happens next, and that's what we're
going to continue to do.
Speaker 1 (38:59):
So this isoray to pay attention to.
Speaker 4 (39:01):
I'm sure the NFL is going to be all over
it and having those conversations as well, so you will
hear a little bit more about it and hopefully we'll
get some clarity coming up.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
So coming up next our number.
Speaker 4 (39:12):
Two, the NBA All Stars were announced, but more importantly, who's.
Speaker 1 (39:18):
Not an All Star?
Speaker 4 (39:19):
And we'll also hear from Arch Manning once again right
here on the morning kickoff all Sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone.
Speaker 2 (39:35):
Oh for the Horse, thirteen hundred, this song.
Speaker 1 (39:41):
Welcome back to.
Speaker 4 (39:42):
Our number two, Oh the morning kickoff right here on
Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
Our number one.
Speaker 4 (39:49):
We talked about the Texas women's basketball team getting a
hard fought victory over the Missouri Tigers seventy to sixty one.
Texas played without five players who we were out from
the flu. Madison Booker and Taylor Jones played their behinds
off and Texas gets the dub. Now their focus is
on the Texas A and M fighting Aggies as they
(40:11):
go there. On Sunday, arch Manning met with Marty Smith
of ESPN. He also signed a new deal with Red Bull.
We'll continue those conversations about Arch Manning and get a
chance to listen to him. And then we had some
scandals in NBA and NFL. Justin Tucker is in a
peculiar situation and Terry Rozier is dealing with allegations of gambling.
(40:38):
Well point shaping as we'd like to say. But right now, Mark,
let's get into the NBA. The reserves were announced yesterday
and wimbin Yama is an All Star. Finally can talk
about Winby and his ability to be in the All
Star Game. And there's some snubs that were out there, Mark,
(40:59):
and you want to talk a little bit about some
of those snubs.
Speaker 5 (41:03):
Man, I just can't believe it like, I mean, just
the thought of.
Speaker 1 (41:09):
LaMelo Ball not making.
Speaker 5 (41:11):
It to the All Star and uh, Devin Booker, I
mean I can see Kyrie not making it.
Speaker 1 (41:21):
I couldn't. I couldn't.
Speaker 5 (41:23):
Nope, I can I can see Levine not making it.
But Tyree's Maxie, I mean he missed some games, so
I can see him not making it too.
Speaker 1 (41:31):
And Powell. Uh, but sabonas Sabonis is one of the
top five big men in all the basketball how does
he not make it?
Speaker 4 (41:41):
Yeah, it's a little disappointing when you when you look
at it, when you look at the entire rosters of
all of these teams, you start to say, wake what
the Eastern Conference reserves Dame Lillard, Darius Garland, Jalen Brown,
k Cunningham, Tyler Here, Evan Mobley, in, Pascal Siakam. One
(42:03):
of the guys that I thought should have been in
there was Jared Allen. And no, it's not because of
a Homer pick. I just think that Jared Allen is
dangerous in the middle of that Cleveland lineup. In the
Western Conference, the reserves are Anthony Davis, Anthony Edwards, James Harden,
Jared Jackson. Uh. Seeing him from the Rockets, Jalen Williams
(42:27):
of the Thunder, Jalen with the E N not the
l O N, and Victor winbin Yama. The starters we've
talked about them in the East is Jalen Brunson, Donovan Mitchell,
Carl Anthony Towns, Jason Tatum, and Jannis Antetokoupo. In the West,
Shake Yes, Shake Gil Chris Alexander's, Steph Curry, Nicolo Jokic,
(42:51):
Kevin Durant, and Lebron James. You know, I'm with you
on I'm definitely shocked Kyrie Irving is not an All Star.
Trey Young is another name that people were kind of like,
wait a minute, But the name that really stood out
to me is Tyrese Maxie.
Speaker 1 (43:11):
I don't care if he missed games.
Speaker 4 (43:12):
There's players that have missed games, but Tyrese Maxie is
the reason why the Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia seventy
six ers contend and he averages twenty seven points per game.
You know, he's been the bright spot, bright spot for
this team and he's not an All Star.
Speaker 1 (43:34):
That's ridiculous to me.
Speaker 5 (43:35):
I think it's one of those that is not a
sexy pick because you go back to your options and
you look at the starters. Jalen Brunson and Donovan Mitchell
have been balling. They are the starters in the East.
(43:58):
You mean to tell me you go put Maxie in
front of one of them. No, he doesn't. Yeah, that's
what I'm talking about. He can be a reserve. As
a reserve, I can see him bumping. There's Garland. There's
Garland has been playing well, but he's not Tyrese Maxie.
Speaker 1 (44:19):
If you had to pick.
Speaker 5 (44:20):
Head to head in an all NBA draft and.
Speaker 1 (44:26):
Dari's Garland and.
Speaker 5 (44:30):
Tyrese Maxie were on the board next, there's no way
that you picked Darius Garland over Tyrese max.
Speaker 1 (44:40):
No way.
Speaker 5 (44:42):
Well, you know what I mean, talent experience like position versatility,
you don't do it, Harge.
Speaker 4 (44:52):
Trey Young has has eleven point four assists per game
and he's not an All Star.
Speaker 1 (45:00):
LaMelo is fourth in the NBA in scoring.
Speaker 4 (45:08):
Jared Allen in field goal percentage is number two in
the NBA. You start looking at some of these positions.
You know who I said shouldn't have been in there?
Tyler Hero. No, Tyler Hero.
Speaker 1 (45:24):
Tyler Hero, shouldn't have been on there.
Speaker 4 (45:26):
Tyler Hero, I would have taken Trey Young or I
would have taken Tyrese Maxey.
Speaker 1 (45:31):
For sure, I would have done that.
Speaker 4 (45:35):
And I know that a lot of people believe in
Tyler Hero and what he's been able to do for
that team.
Speaker 1 (45:42):
But if we're going.
Speaker 4 (45:44):
Shot for shot, playing for play, Tyrese Maxey is the
sixth leading scorer in the NBA. LaMelo Ball is the
fourth leading scorer in the NBA. I'm still looking for
Tyler Hero. Tyl Heroes' were eighteen those are That's That's
(46:05):
why I look at this sometimes and I'm like, I know,
it's guard guard heavy, and situations present themselves in different manners,
and you know, popularity contests, How are you with your peers?
We went through all of that, But when it comes
down to reserves, then you should be able to go
(46:26):
pick the people that you think are going to be
able to make things happen quickly for your basketball team.
Speaker 1 (46:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (46:34):
I think it's unfair. I mean, but you gave the
criteria that twenty five percent is picked from the sports writers,
twenty five percent from the players, the players players, yeah,
and then fifty from the fans. The fans have the
(46:56):
Lion's share of the Pigs yep.
Speaker 1 (46:59):
And the fans make it a.
Speaker 5 (47:03):
Just what it is, fandom, a fanatical standpoint. They judge
with they heart, not with the statistics. Only half of
that board is judging with statistics.
Speaker 1 (47:14):
Yeah, it's just you know, that's what it's all about.
Speaker 4 (47:18):
You start looking at these games and you're trying to
figure out what's next for them and how they're going
to go about it, and how does this season break down?
Win is the actual magic going to happen, and that's
how it goes down. But I am happy for Victor
winbin Yama. Victor winbin Yama is somebody that's very popular
(47:38):
in the NBA, somebody that we all look at and
it's fun to watch. They play the Bucks tonight, so
I'll be interested to see what the matchup between he
and Jannis and how physical that game is going to be.
Giannis is averaging thirty one points per game with twelve
(47:59):
rebounds and five assists. Weinby's twenty four points a game
with a eleven rebounds and four assists, So it's a.
Speaker 1 (48:09):
Battle of big men.
Speaker 4 (48:11):
But we're getting closer and closer to the trade deadline
as well, and I'm going back to this again. Where
do you see Jimmy Butler finally ending up?
Speaker 5 (48:26):
I think Jimmy Butler's going to end up in Sacramento.
I know that's not a popular destination. But they have money,
they have picks. They want to unload another big contract,
which you know they're gonna have. They're even gonna have
(48:49):
to get rid of them or losing. So I feel
like that's the move Sacramento Kings.
Speaker 4 (48:56):
Well, there's a story out there right now that looks
like Jimmy Butler may end up going to Golden's Golden State.
There's been some conversation about that. So let me just
humor me in this humor me in this conversation. Right here,
(49:17):
Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green on the same team in
the huddle, not happy with the plays.
Speaker 1 (49:30):
I love it? Why why you love it?
Speaker 5 (49:35):
Because of the drama, because of what could be entertainment
wise for us as fans, Like you mean to tell
me that you don't want to see Draymond Green and
and Butler in the and a huddle together when stuff
gets tight?
Speaker 4 (49:53):
Yeah, come on hard, Yeah, that's funny, beautiful, and it's
funny because the report from Kevin O'Connor, says, my league
sources confirmed these hesitations, revealing Curry himself has reservations about
Butler's fit in the Warriors locker room, and it's a
sentiment shared by head coach Steve Kerr. As we've talked
(50:17):
about before, Butler, the Chicago Bulls, the Timberwolves, and the
seventy six ers and now the Heat all are trying
to move on from Jimmy Butler.
Speaker 1 (50:28):
I think that they'll be able to work it out. Man.
Speaker 4 (50:30):
We'll see, we'll see. Coming up next, we're gonna listen
to Arch Manning. That's right, Arch Manning talking some football,
being in up Manning family, and of course replacing Quinn yours.
Speaker 1 (50:44):
It's all coming up next right here on a few
good Friday edition of the.
Speaker 4 (50:49):
Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio A thirteen hundred the Zone.
The University of Texas has a new QB one. That's right, folks,
(51:11):
a QB one has been named at the University of Texas,
and his name just happens to be Arch Manning. Mark,
You and I have talked about Arch Manning and the
expectations coming into the University of Texas and replacing a
quarterback that did an unbelievable job. When you sit back
(51:31):
and think about what Quinn yours has become for this
basketball team, and I think it's important to understand that
it's not going to be an easy road to hoe.
When you think about the quarterback position at Texas, We've
had some big time conversations. We've had big moments throughout
(51:52):
this time. For all of the quarterbacks that have ever
walked on the forty acres.
Speaker 1 (51:58):
I think that he think great, hands hard. It's not
just him.
Speaker 5 (52:02):
Everybody thinks, oh, it's just one quarterback is going to
solve everything. That's not the way it works. The University
of Texas has going to be is going to have
great talent around Arch next year. Not to mention, I
would say the best are one of the top three
best coaching staffs in college football. They know more about
(52:26):
what Arch is than we do, and they're going to
put him in the best possible space because they want
to win. You know, as much as we want to win,
they want to win ten times more.
Speaker 1 (52:38):
It affects him more, yup.
Speaker 4 (52:40):
And one of the things about it is he's part
of the Manning family, and Arch talked about that about
the family.
Speaker 1 (52:46):
The advice and what all goes.
Speaker 8 (52:48):
Through when you're the heir apparent to the throne of
the first family of quarterbacks with a famous last name.
To what degree do you desire to create your own identity?
Speaker 6 (53:00):
Yeah, I never really think about that. I'm just here
to play football. It's a game I love, grew up playing.
You're out there with your friends playing every Saturday. What
could get better than that. I'm not here to take
someone off the throne or I'm not worried about my legacy.
I'm just worried about playing ball and winning games.
Speaker 8 (53:13):
Which family member you feel like your game is most like?
Speaker 6 (53:17):
I think probably like my grandfather. He could run around
a little bit, make plays, use a little more of
his athleticism. But I like to take bits and pieces
of everyone's.
Speaker 7 (53:26):
What pieces do you take from Peyton?
Speaker 6 (53:29):
Just his preparation, his accuracy, the way he leads other guys,
gets the most out of his teammates. Peyton was in
town this past summer and I wanted to throw with him,
and like every little detail, where am I parking? What
time are we warming up? What time are we finish in?
What's the weather? Like? He wants to know it all
so It's cool to see that, because that's what you
need out of quarterback.
Speaker 7 (53:46):
What pieces of Eli's game do you try to incorporate.
Speaker 6 (53:49):
I really like how Eli nothing really faced him. I mean,
he was up in New York with the media. They'd
have good years, bad years, and he kind of stayed
level headed. He would throw for four hundred yards or
throw for four inner set and he couldn't tell the difference.
Speaker 4 (54:01):
So I really respected that. That's what it's all about.
You got to be levelheaded. You got to be calm,
cool and directed, calm cool and collective. But you also
have to have that direction and that leadership of the
ability to be able to be a top notch quarterback
and bringing discipline to the conversation.
Speaker 1 (54:18):
Urge.
Speaker 5 (54:18):
You know that you've heard the term coach speak. That
was quarterback speak right there. You notice that when Arch
makes a play, he's like horns to the don He's like, yeah,
we did that. He dances with his teammates. The dude's
colored point, got a great personality.
Speaker 1 (54:40):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (54:42):
They are not going to be able to keep all
of that suppressed with the coolness.
Speaker 1 (54:48):
He's not Joe cool. The dude is. He's going to
be one of the.
Speaker 5 (54:54):
Most flambuoyant players in college football since Johnny Manziel.
Speaker 1 (55:00):
With good heritage and with good upbringing.
Speaker 4 (55:05):
You think it's you think he's gonna be He's gonna
have that that flare like Johnny.
Speaker 5 (55:11):
Yes, sir, he's gonna have the flash. I've seen it bubbling.
I you can't put the mustard on the hot dog
if you don't win. So he wants to win so
he can show off. You you watch when he scored
or when he does.
Speaker 4 (55:26):
No, I know that he's gonna he's gonna be excited
for his teammates. I mean Eli, and and and Arch.
I mean Eli and Peyton were excited for their teammates too.
And yeah, he's got some flash and all that. But
now he's the guy. You know those moments he was
he was coming in and yeah he was ready to
go out there and play.
Speaker 1 (55:46):
But I don't I don't know. Maybe I don't know,
I don't know. Maybe you watched you watched the interview
last night.
Speaker 4 (55:54):
Yeah, he's got a great personality. I think it's great
for him to.
Speaker 5 (55:58):
Be that personality, and and he wants to dance with
his team. I don't know if I've seen a quarterback
outside of Johnny Manziel do that much dance.
Speaker 1 (56:10):
And that much shucking and jibing. The dude got it.
He know what he has and.
Speaker 5 (56:18):
His ability to assimilate through his uncle and his grandfather
and his dad, which Cooper was a really good wide
receiver that had a knee injury that they can fix today.
Neck injury, yeah, that they couldn't fix back then.
Speaker 1 (56:37):
Yeah. So now like he was, he's the athlete. Man.
Speaker 5 (56:44):
You said, you hear him say that he likes his
grandfather's game. He moved around, he made plays out of nothing.
That's that's who he wants to be.
Speaker 1 (56:56):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (56:56):
And then he also, you know, he asked about what
what what advice do these guys give you when you
get a chance to talk to them along the way.
Speaker 8 (57:05):
If you reach out to Peyton about something, what's an
example of the time that you did that, And what.
Speaker 7 (57:11):
Was his analysis?
Speaker 1 (57:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (57:12):
I remember last spring and I was struggling in two
minute drills, so I reached out to him and just
texted him and he sent back like a ten.
Speaker 1 (57:19):
Minute voice audio.
Speaker 6 (57:21):
It's hilarious, and he just went on and on and
ELI will cut more to the point. I reached out
to him just about a player to coach stuff and
how you always want to be coachable and sometimes it's
good to get yelled at in front of everyone else
to set the tone that you're not favorited or anything.
Speaker 1 (57:35):
That you're not favorited.
Speaker 4 (57:37):
You're not the You got to go in there and
get to work just like everybody else. But the main
thing is the main thing, and that's taking the torch
from Quinn and now being the quarterback for the University
of Texas. When did you realize it was your time?
Speaker 8 (57:51):
When you see that Quinn was ready to go? How
did that go down? Where you learned, all right.
Speaker 7 (57:57):
It's my time, it's my team.
Speaker 6 (57:58):
Kind of right after the high stake, I was a
plint in the locker room. He was just like, enjoy
every moment. It goes by quickly, so love on your
teammates and have fun. And Coach Charge just told me
to be myself and be a leader and work hard
and all work out.
Speaker 4 (58:11):
And there's a picture out there now mark that they
started their winter workouts and you see him yelling at everybody,
getting fired up in the middle of the huddle, and
so that I think that's his step and letting everybody
know that this is going to be his team.
Speaker 1 (58:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (58:27):
I mean you have to establish that dominance as the
as the team leader and the identity of the team.
And he made he made a point to say that
he was told that sometimes it's.
Speaker 1 (58:41):
Good for you to get yelled at.
Speaker 5 (58:43):
Uh, so everybody knows that you know you're on the
same board with them, that you're not held up to
a higher standard.
Speaker 1 (58:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (58:51):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (58:52):
There was an incident or story about Jim Brown and Ernie.
Speaker 1 (59:01):
Ernie Davis.
Speaker 5 (59:02):
Ernie Davis and Ernie Davis used to get screamed at
all the time. Every time Jim Brown would mess up,
they would scream at Ernie Davis and Jim.
Speaker 1 (59:14):
Would be like, I know you're talking to me. Yep.
Speaker 5 (59:17):
But they would never dare say that to Jim Brown.
The coaches wouldn't say that. They'd be like, Ernie, you
got a hold onto the ball, Jim, I know he's
talking to me.
Speaker 1 (59:29):
Yeah, no doubt, no doubt. And I think Arch would
be a good leader. You have to absorb some of that. Yeah,
that's what leaders do. Glad that he's getting it now. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (59:39):
One of the things that is driving me nuts, though,
Mark is the fact that people are putting him in
this category like all of a sudden, Texas is fixing
to win the national championship because he's there. But it
gets even crazier because, first take yesterday, our guy Cam
Newton decides that I'm just gonna throw So I'm crazy
(01:00:00):
out there, and let's see if we can get some
controversy going.
Speaker 1 (01:00:03):
Yeah, I think they tak it for arch make it
make sense.
Speaker 9 (01:00:08):
Okay, wow, wow, coach Settenheimer has one and done written.
Speaker 1 (01:00:14):
All over They have to thank he got one and
done written all over him.
Speaker 9 (01:00:19):
Okay, why do you want to done?
Speaker 1 (01:00:21):
You get the first pick of the draft? Okay.
Speaker 9 (01:00:24):
Not only that, I'm going to go back into my
godfather bag and say, okay, Jerry Jones is a business
man and he's gonna get in this don coleyon you
know what I'm saying, mentality, and he's going to give him.
Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
A deal that he can't refuse. Who Nick Saban?
Speaker 9 (01:00:38):
Go get Nick Saban as your head coach, coach draft
arch man, and as a number one pick man.
Speaker 2 (01:00:44):
But okay, but Nick si come on.
Speaker 1 (01:00:46):
Man, what are we doing? What are we doing? That's
called the wisp thinking. What are we doing?
Speaker 4 (01:00:55):
That's that's the thing that is driving me nuts.
Speaker 1 (01:00:58):
Man, That is it.
Speaker 4 (01:01:00):
That is why all of this insanity. He better not
make a mistake on the football field, dog, he better
not make a mistake.
Speaker 1 (01:01:07):
And coming up next, I.
Speaker 4 (01:01:08):
Know you won't make a mistake because you are the
world's strongest man and you can only bring us the
world's strongest take. And it's coming up next right here
on the morning kickoff on sports Radio and thirteen hundred
the zone.
Speaker 1 (01:01:39):
The beat has dropped. And you know that means one thing.
WWE Hall of Famer who's.
Speaker 4 (01:01:44):
On the road for a good time, brings you the
world's strongest take.
Speaker 1 (01:01:50):
Take it away, big fella. Alright, what's up man? You
know what time?
Speaker 5 (01:01:55):
Man?
Speaker 1 (01:01:55):
What time is it?
Speaker 5 (01:01:57):
It's time for the world's strongest Let's take by the
world's strongest man, Khalil. Back then they didn't know me.
Now I'm hot. They all all men, guys. I have
to go back to what we talked about earlier because
(01:02:18):
there's just too much meat on the bomb. I wanted
to talk about the Texas women's team, but this, this
is just this is too juicy. It's too juicy. I'm
talking about it like those those those candies that we
had when we were kids that were gum that you
chew and they burst in your mouth.
Speaker 1 (01:02:36):
Oh, I remember those. I love those. I love Candy Hard.
I don't like you Hard just making a diddy face.
He's one of those guys too much.
Speaker 5 (01:02:50):
So we talked about the people that got snubbed in
in the in the picking of the All Star team. Yep,
LaMelo Ball, Devin Booker, Uh, Tyrese Maxim, Jared Allen, and
(01:03:13):
and Dontri and Sabona's is the biggest one to me.
Speaker 1 (01:03:18):
Now, the guys that.
Speaker 5 (01:03:22):
Didn't that, you know, they they they made the team
that I.
Speaker 1 (01:03:25):
Feel like.
Speaker 5 (01:03:28):
They could have been bumped that they got the they
got the love from the fans too much.
Speaker 1 (01:03:33):
Because of the fandom standpoint.
Speaker 5 (01:03:37):
Hart, you mentioned it like Tyler Hero and Darius Garland,
like they you there's no way, there's no way that
you put either one of them above Trey Young and.
Speaker 1 (01:03:59):
My guy which one. Yeah, you can't do it.
Speaker 5 (01:04:05):
The fans, y'all all should have y'all hands fain that
that's that's a horrible, horrible choice.
Speaker 1 (01:04:14):
And and you know what it affects.
Speaker 5 (01:04:16):
Despite the fact that you say, oh, it's just a game,
it's just an All Star game.
Speaker 4 (01:04:20):
No, but it affects legacies. It affects Hockety books too.
Speaker 5 (01:04:26):
Yeah, and and now the starters Jalen Brunson, Donovan Mitchell,
Jason Tatum, called Anthony Towns and Jannas that's a solid
Eastern All Star lineup undebatable.
Speaker 1 (01:04:42):
Everybody on that deserves Steph Carry.
Speaker 5 (01:04:48):
I Steph Carry is Steph Carry, but he Anthony Edwards,
he's been balling. I would have put Anthony Edwards up there,
and Steph Carry would have been on the bench.
Speaker 1 (01:05:04):
Shaye, Kevin Durant, Lebron.
Speaker 5 (01:05:08):
And Joker undebatable, Like you you leave them in the
spots that they're in.
Speaker 1 (01:05:17):
But I'm I'm just I'm gonna go on record.
Speaker 5 (01:05:19):
In the West, Uh, Anthony Davis and Victor Winde Yama
and Anthony Edwards, either one of them could have been.
Speaker 1 (01:05:31):
On the starting unit.
Speaker 5 (01:05:32):
But car Anthony Towns, Jason Tatum and sabonas Bro they
I mean, Gianna's they've involved and it's hard to put
them in that spot. The Evan Mobley and I mean,
you can't put all the Cleveland Cavaliers on there.
Speaker 1 (01:05:52):
That's why I feel like j Allen didn't make it.
Speaker 5 (01:05:56):
It's because they had three other Cavaliers on that team,
and they well, who's the less scorer and the less sexy.
Jared is the less sexy because he's not the scorer,
he's the defender.
Speaker 1 (01:06:13):
I mean even though twice this year he's got Player
of the Week.
Speaker 4 (01:06:18):
Let me ask you this and I'll let you finish
thirty nine and thirty nine, I mean thirty nine and
nine and thirty seven and nine. When you got a
team that plays like that, don't you think your team
should be benefited.
Speaker 5 (01:06:34):
No, because it's an individual award, which it got just
an All Star. Now, if it was a team thing, yeah,
Boston and Cleveland, shit should Yeah, they should have more
players on there because they deserve it. But as an
individual award, harde you got to give. Let the guys
be voted in by the individual status. The only real
(01:06:56):
ones in the West that have an argument is Victor
Windy Yama and Anthony Davis.
Speaker 1 (01:07:03):
In the Wist. They got two starters that shouldn't be started.
Speaker 5 (01:07:08):
Tyler Hero shouldn't be on there and Darius Garland shouldn't
be on there, Like they're taking up valuable spots from
Tyrese Maxi.
Speaker 1 (01:07:22):
And I would even go so far as saying.
Speaker 5 (01:07:25):
Trey Trey Young should be in that spot too, So like,
that's that's my take.
Speaker 1 (01:07:31):
What say you, man? I'm with you on some of
these snubs.
Speaker 4 (01:07:36):
And it is something that's got a lot of meat
on the bone because of the fact that there's so
much talent in the NBA, but there's only X amount
of spots, and the debate will always rage about every
single player besides the obvious, right, Like you know, Tyrese
Maxie is a guy that we've been talking about a
lot because of what he's done for his team. But
(01:07:56):
his team is like nineteen and seven, I mean in
thirty you know, not a good basketball team, so they're
they're not there. Yeah, nineteen and twenty seven not a
good basketball team as a whole. But you do want
us to look at the bright spot and him being it.
He's somebody that I thought should have been in there.
LaMelo his team is twelve and thirty two. That's why
(01:08:19):
they don't have him in the All Star Game. So
there's a lot to unpack. But I also look at
what's going on with the Rockets. The Rockets have some
great players that are putting up some great numbers, but
they only have one guy that's going and a lot
of people don't even know that guy's name.
Speaker 1 (01:08:38):
So Shane Young is a good player, but so it's.
Speaker 5 (01:08:42):
Green, Yes, yes, you know, Green could have easily been on.
Speaker 1 (01:08:47):
Thompson has been balling.
Speaker 4 (01:08:49):
He's a guy that everybody's been talking about what he's
been able to do. So there's guys that are on
the on the court that are are are.
Speaker 1 (01:08:58):
Really really tough basketball players.
Speaker 4 (01:09:01):
But it's just a matter of all right, which one
are we gonna take and who are the ones that
need to be done?
Speaker 5 (01:09:08):
So, Marge, why why don't why don't they add six man?
They always have the six man Award, Like, that's a
great take do to five and also have the sixth man.
Speaker 1 (01:09:20):
Yeah, that's a great way.
Speaker 5 (01:09:22):
You could have put Anthony Davis or Wyndy Yama in
the West, and you could have put Trey Young or.
Speaker 1 (01:09:30):
Tyrese Maxi in the in the east.
Speaker 5 (01:09:35):
You fix it, you solve it, because I'm you know,
I'm a I'm a solutions guy. I hate just throwing
a problem out there and have everybody look at the problem.
It's like looking at ugly art. You ain't fixing that
you know you can't fix why you put that on
the wall.
Speaker 1 (01:09:53):
Man?
Speaker 4 (01:09:55):
There he is w W E. Hall of Famer in
the world stronger this man bringing us the world's strongest.
Take Mark, I know you got to go to a meeting.
Appreciate you, dog, and we'll reconvene on Monday. Well, I'll
be talking to you this weekend. Appreciate you. Go enjoy yourself.
Speaker 1 (01:10:13):
All right, man, y'all be good.
Speaker 4 (01:10:15):
All right, when we come back, we'll close out the
show and send you to Dan Patrick, the Texas women's softball.
Speaker 1 (01:10:21):
Team, number one in the country.
Speaker 4 (01:10:24):
We'll talk about it right here on the morning kickoff
on Sports Radio and thirteen hundred The Zone.
Speaker 7 (01:10:42):
This week's show its gearing to.
Speaker 1 (01:10:44):
The podcast page.
Speaker 4 (01:10:45):
We had a lot of great guests all week long,
and of course we've had opportunities to do so many
different things, and I just know that the more that
you continue to listen to the show, the more that
you will enjoy everything that is going on. Also, I
want to make sure that we holler at the softball team.
(01:11:07):
But in just a minute, we're gonna also talk about
the baseball team and what's going on this weekend. Because
a lot of folks had a good time last night,
But right now I want to give you an opportunity
to win a pair of tickets to go see Jason
Aldean August the sixteenth at the Moody Center. All you
got to do is get over to AM thirteen hundred
to zone. You're already listening to it on the iHeartRadio app.
(01:11:28):
And if you're not, get over to the iHeartRadio app
and tap the red microphone and leave a message. All
week long, every word that we left for you, the
keywords started with a T.
Speaker 1 (01:11:39):
Tonight, this word is town.
Speaker 4 (01:11:43):
Town is the keyword that you leave to get a
chance to win a pair of tickets to go see
Jason Aldean August the sixteenth at the Moody Center. Also
be listening to the Craig Way Show this afternoon for
a chance to win another pair of tickets for another concert.
I wanted to bring this up because the Texas softball
team has done everything except last year they ended up
(01:12:06):
losing to Oklahoma. They were so close, so close to
winning the national championship. But they have continued to work,
recruit well and make some serious things happen, and they
are the number one team in the country. Preseason number
one team in the country, and one of the biggest
things for me about this softball team is leadership.
Speaker 1 (01:12:30):
And coach talked about leadership.
Speaker 4 (01:12:32):
He talked about the experienced players, and coach is always
excited to have the leaders on this team.
Speaker 10 (01:12:41):
It is exciting to have now what we consider, I
may bee a senior leadership type team, and you know,
I mean being young that label for the last couple
of years, we can't use that anymore. So you know,
it's great to have some experience back. And you know,
of course, as I've said many times, you can't practice
being in those situations of the College World Series and
or championships. It's something we need to build on to
(01:13:01):
continue to do. And like you said, just keep that
core rolling from yet a year and so you're peer.
Speaker 4 (01:13:07):
Led and not so much coach led. And that's important
to understand too. And they got a lot of players
that are talented. Mia Scott take Teagan cava On and
Reese Atwood are three of the top players in the
country that have been recognized as those types of players.
But he also wants to make sure people understand that
(01:13:30):
this team is gonna work hard and they feel comfortable
around each other because of the talent that they have.
Speaker 10 (01:13:37):
We soon get a little bit of that feeling from practice,
you know, going out and being with the team and
seeing how they're operating, how they're talking. They're really comfortable
in some of the positions. Obviously there's a couple of
positions up for grabs, there are some competition going on.
Speaker 1 (01:13:49):
You always want that.
Speaker 10 (01:13:50):
But you know, obviously having pretty much the full pitching
south back plus a really good freshman and Cam Cam
Salmon that should help us there. Obviously, losing a lifty
in Stelle Chick is something we can't replace, but you know,
the pitching staffs is in tagged too, obviously, go to
solid nucleus throughout the lineup with a good hitting team
that I think you know, bat at three seventy last
(01:14:10):
year as a team. So we're excited about having all
those pieces back for a good.
Speaker 1 (01:14:15):
Run this year.
Speaker 4 (01:14:16):
Yeah, it is an exciting time for them and having
those players back and then you know, as well as
the experience that they bring every single day, it's something
that is important to build around the nucleus and recruiting
is up. He just talked about one of the top
pitchers in the country cam Salmon coming to the University
(01:14:37):
of Texas, so that is huge, huge for them. An
exciting time on the forty acres. Also, there's an exciting
time tomorrow. The weather is starting to clear up. I've
just looked out the window. The bright skies are theirs.
Little windy. Saw the tree swaying a little bit. It's
a little windy. But tomorrow is the alumni game and
(01:14:59):
fandom fan appreciation Day. Excuse me, fan Appreciation Day Tomorrow.
Get out to the baseball field dishfalk Field. It's free,
so gates open at ten thirty, ten thirty to eleven thirty.
You'll get some autographs, you can get a chance to
(01:15:20):
play catch on the field, you can get some pitchers
with Bevo eleven forty five. You got to clear the
field and batting practice will happen for this year's team.
The alumni will be there. They'll take batting practice as well.
It's going to be a fun, fun time and of
course you get the alumni introductions and the first pitch
(01:15:41):
will take place at twelve thirty. You can also watch
it on the Longhorn Network. Got to download the app
to be able to watch it, but you get a
chance to come out there and hang out meet some
of the former players, and now you get a chance
to meet the new players, get a chance to be
around coach Slasnegel and see how he operates. Last night,
it looked like everybody had a great time for their
(01:16:05):
annual ladies' night at the dish where they were talking
to them and getting a chance to meet all the
new players on the forty Acres. So it is a
really really good time if you're gonna play softball, baseball, basketball.
The Batman's basketball team is in Baton Rouge as they
(01:16:26):
take on LSU tomorrow. I believe that game is at five.
And then of course you have the women's basketball game
on Sunday as they travel and take on Texas A
and M. It is a big, big week around the
forty Acres. Is a big week around here as well,
and of course we want you guys to be a
(01:16:48):
part of it. If you haven't told all your friends
about the morning kickoff with myself and Mark Henry, what
are you doing.
Speaker 1 (01:16:56):
We have a good time and.
Speaker 4 (01:16:57):
We're gonna be informative and we're gonna bring you all
the things that are happening on ut in NBA in
college football, NFL football. Next week, we'll be talking a
lot about the Super Bowl. And I want you all
to think about this this weekend. As seasons continue to
go on and there's a conspiracy theory that is out
(01:17:21):
there that continues to try to push the narrative of
the Chiefs being favored, they get calls, all these different things.
Is there something that you need to clear up in
your mind because of the simple fact when we start
(01:17:44):
talking about dynasties and looking at dynasties, we're excited about them.
Speaker 1 (01:17:49):
In the very beginning, the.
Speaker 4 (01:17:51):
Kansas City Chiefs was a team that everybody was looking
at and saying, oh man, I really like Patrick Mahons,
oh Man, Andy Reid.
Speaker 1 (01:17:58):
He get there, but he hadn't done anything.
Speaker 4 (01:18:00):
Oh man, all these different situations, and now we start
to see them. They play well, they play solid, they
do things the right way, and now all of a sudden,
you're not feeling them.
Speaker 1 (01:18:15):
It's just kind of.
Speaker 4 (01:18:15):
Crazy how we go through that cycle in life of
watching people do great things and then we get bored
with it.
Speaker 1 (01:18:24):
Crazy crazy times. But I want you all to enjoy
your weekend. I want to thank.
Speaker 4 (01:18:28):
Khalil, I want to thank our god Mark, Henry Royal
rumble this weekend as well, and of course I want
to thank you the people. Just remember this, don't believe
everything you see, because even salt looks like sugar. Have
a great weekend, folks.
Speaker 1 (01:18:44):
Pich
