Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to our number two of the morning kickoff
right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone,
and our number one. We talked about the NFL versus
the NBA. The Chiefs win again, they defeat the Steelers
twenty nine to teen, I mean twenty nine to ten,
and the Texans fall to the Ravens thirty one to two.
(00:22):
Two two two. Sark and Dillingham met with the media
previewing the peach Ball. We just talked about Dion Sanders,
that is Dion being Dion, and we also talked about
the Spurs and the Knicks and all the other NBA matchups.
But I want to get into the NFL mark because
(00:43):
the NFL is in one of those predicaments now where
they're starting to flex games out. They got games that
started on Monday night. Tuesday, everybody got off. We had
two games yesterday on Chris on Netflix, which I thought
was great. I thought Netflix did a really good job
(01:05):
and the personnel was really good. The only problem that
I had yesterday was JJ Watt and Nate Burlison being
the analyst for the game for the Pittsburgh Steelers versus
the Chiefs. Because everybody knows JJ watts brother is TJ Watt,
(01:25):
but Nate Burlison the entire game kept saying your little brother,
your little brother, your little brother. We know, we get it,
it's his little brother, but you don't have to over
analyze and tell us every single play that is JJ
(01:46):
watts little brother that is trying to make plays. The
sounds like a big brother thing. That is annoying. JJ
wasn't saying anything about it. He was trying to avoid
the topic. He wanted to be like.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Focused on this guy as a high level NFL player. Yes,
and don't make trivialize it by calling.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Him little anything. Yes, that's not JJ. It is is
technically his little brother, but he is a monster in
the NFL. And when you're calling the game, let's keep
it out of there. That's almost like you did. Did
you know that Coke and Shipley were roommates? Do you
know that their dads were roommates in college? Every time?
(02:27):
Why are you bringing up personal stuff anyway? They do
it every time. Yes, yes, at the very beginning they
talked about it. JJ. You know you're out here calling
your brother's game. Didn't call him little brother because you
go out there and you just you just say, hey,
(02:48):
why is playing a great game like everybody else does?
And it was just that was the only thing that
was the annoying part of that telecast. The second telecast
great Greg Olsen outstanding, the Ravens and and the Texans
great as always. But the fact still remains when you
(03:08):
look at this playoff pitcher and where teams are, how
are they going to break it down? Where are you
going to be in the wild card, in the in
the UH buys and sin not Cincinnati, but Kansas City
clinched a first round by they clinched home field advantage
(03:28):
of yes, So you start looking at all of these
teams and and you you really are trying to picture
where are you going to be playoff wise? Who is
going to be your pick to win it all? As
we talked about, Kansas City, Buffalo, Baltimore, Houston and the
Steelers have all clenched playoff position. Houston is falling, and
(03:54):
so it's Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh has lost now four games in
a row after being hot to everybody was excited to
get Russ and now they've lost too. Now they've lost
that's three games in a row. Sorry, they lost to
the Philadelphia Eagles, the Ravens and they've lost to the Chiefs.
All teams that are going to be in the playoffs
(04:17):
that are solidifying their positions as well. Now you got
the Ravens who have now taken control of the division
in that particular spot. So now you are the wild
card participant. So it's just interesting to me. And then
you go over to the to the NFC and you've
(04:39):
got Detroit they can win the home field advantage, would
have win this week. They have the Pittsburgh i mean
Philadelphia Eagles, so both teams in the state of Pennsylvania
will be in the playoffs. You've got the Rams that
are ahead in the in the third position for the division,
they're ahead right now at nine and six, and the
(05:00):
the Atlanta Falcons have the other position at eight and seven.
Zero faith in Atlanta. And that is the other question.
So are you looking at Tampa who is tied. They
win the tiebreaker over Tampa based on their head they
head win percentage. The Cowboys beating them last week didn't
help them in did not help them in if they
(05:20):
have to win the tie breaker over Seattle based on
the win percentage in the conference game for them, to
get in. So it's Seattle, Tampa, and Washington and Atlanta
all buying for that spot. So the Cowboys, the Cardinals,
the forty nine ers. Think about that Cowboys and forty
nine ers, neither one of them are in the playoffs.
(05:42):
New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears who play tonight, Carolina Panthers,
and the New York Giants all trying to figure out
what position they're gonna draft in coming up? Are they tanking?
Is everybody just going to continue to tank? Tank for
two of them? Yeah? Thanks for Shada tag for twoas
thanks for your door, all right, I see yes. So
(06:03):
Green Bay is another team that I look at. You
watch them on the getting the first shutout, first shutout
in the NFL this season on a Monday night, Man
that they look great and New Orleans looks awful, awful
without Alvin Kamara and Derek Carr. Look how bad that
they looked in those two games.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
But that just tells you how important the quarterback position is.
One and two having a running back that can make
the defense, you know, sag inside closer to the line
of scrimmage.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
Jerry Jones, I'm talking to you, yeah, yeah, but you
start to look at all these games, and you look
at all these teams, and last weekend Saturday Saturday football games,
they topped the college football playoffs, believe it or not.
In certain areas last week, the audience for the SMU
Penn State game averaged six point four million viewers on
(06:59):
TNT compared to the Texans and the Chiefs game on NBC,
which was basic cable, so everybody could pick that game up.
Fifteen point five million. Later, Clemson and Texas drew eight
point six on TNT and the Steelers and the Ravens
drew fifteen point four. But my question is if those
(07:24):
games would have been flipped and the NFL was on
TNT in Max as opposed to being on national television,
would those numbers be different? Goes back to your point,
where's the comparison. That's not a fair comparison. If it
would have been on let's say that they would have
been on ABC and the NFL would have been on NBC,
(07:48):
I think those numbers would have been a lot closer.
It would have been more comparable. I had no doubt
about it. And then on Friday night you looked at
the Indiana Not Youre Dame game, got thirteen point four
million views on Friday. On Saturday night, no NFL game,
fourteen point three for the Tennessee Ohio State game. So
(08:11):
it proves my point that if they were on regular
TV in those spots, in those spots with no other
game on, you get those big numbers exactly exactly. So
when they put these numbers out there and you start
to look at them, you're like, nah, that's not apples
to apples, And you could tell a lot of the
(08:33):
games started to really fall off, Like I got I
got up and went and got a piece of pie
when you know the score got ain't why you went
and got the pies because you because you were I
was bored with the game in the third quarter watching
uh two points be scored unbelievable, Like you know, those
are the kind of things that will get you pulled
(08:54):
off of big TV games. Speaking up that the Cowboys
got flexed out of a game, we'll talk about that,
but yeah, they got flexed out to where they're not
in the primetime spot. They got moved to noon next
week this weekend. As a matter of fact, it's this
weekend Cowboys were supposed to have the primetime three to
twenty five game, America's Game of the Week. Nope, you
(09:18):
got through stuff out of there and now you play
at noon Jones. You know, he is sick right now.
He is kicking the walls everything. He is sick right now.
Somebody got fired, you know, every time he gets pissed,
he fired people. Yeah, well he threatened to fire people
that don't even work for him. It's the Minnesota in
green Bay game. Minnesota and Green Bay game took over
(09:41):
the spot for the Cowboys in the Eagles. That's a
that's a big time game that has a lot of
implications now for the positioning. Green Bay is a one
point favorite on the road at Minnesota indoors over under
forty eight and a half. And then the Sunday night game,
which is outstanding as well, is Atlanta at Washington. That's
(10:06):
a good primetime match. There's a lot of good implications
in that game.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
But like, I just don't have a lot of faith
in Atlanta as a team. You know, like I'm if
Michael Pennix goes in there and plays like the draft
stock that he was drafted at, then yeah maybe, but
you know it's outside of that. Washington is gonna kick
them in the team and tonight's matchup, we have Seattle,
who needs to win this ball game, traveling to Chicago
(10:32):
to take on the Chicago Bears seven to fifteen.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
Amazon Prime another.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
Prime, Yeah, another channel streaming, another streaming that you're gonna
have to look for if you don't have Prime, Uh,
you're gonna have to get it to watch that game,
or go over somebody's house.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
