Of course, you're out of town because you were dealing
with WrestleMania. From what all looks and likes, seems to
be a pretty interesting one. I, myself my friend were
and was in town in Austin, Texas, babe, and I
was holding it down for SEC network plus got a
chance to call some outstanding Top ten baseball this weekend

and the Texas Longhorns sweet the Auburn Tigers.

Texas was number one at the time.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
They will be number one again. Mark Texas went out
and had an unbelievable weekend sweeping Auburn. They are now
thirty three and five, sixteen and two in the SEC,
three games ahead, three games ahead, full games ahead of
Arkansas who is now thirteen and five, LSU who is

twelve and six, Tennessee twelve and six, Vanderbilt is eleven
and seven. The list goes on and on, and then
you have your Texas A and M fighting Aggie's who
are sitting at eight and ten. A and M comes
in two Austin, Texas dish fault field to take on
the Texas Longhorns this weekend, and let's just say it

is going to be out of control in Austin, Texas
this coming weekend.

Well, you know they're going to.

Try to show up regardless of what their record is
and how we look at them right now. With cochslasneggle
coming to Austin and all of the success I believe
in playing sport, a lot of people that. You know,
they front run, they want to win, they want to
get out of the front, get a big lead.

If my team is not at the top and I'm
playing the top team, that's gonna be our best effort.

Absolutely, I believe that's what this is all about. I mean,
you know the story of it all. Coach Slasnego being
at Texas A and m his team getting to the
College World Series, just losing it right at the very end,
and then all of a sudden he becomes the head
coach at the University of Texas and the rest is history.
(04:37):
But before that, Texas has to take on Texas State
Tech in San Marcos. Texas ends up losing to Texas State,
and of course Texas State fans are the SEC champs
because they beat Texas at home, so they're thinking themselves
as that as that type of team.

But I want you to I want you to hear

Obviously, I said, I was on the call this weekend
and Kimball Schusler had put on a performance like no other.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
Pitch of the inning coming from Hitzler.

Reps left field fair ball, It'll score two Kimball Schusler's
red hot weekend continues standing at second seven to one.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
I think we figured.

Out who the sec batter of the week is going
to be. When your hottest fish grease like Kimball Schusler
is the young man from Atlanto. The ball is looking
like a beach ball to him right now, and he's
taking quality cuts.

And making solid contact.

And he's being rewarded for his efforts. Kimball Schusler, as
I said, he is somebody that has been an integral
part of the success. And the story goes with Kimball Schusler.
For those that don't know, Kimball Schusler went to Texas
A and M. First, he was there with coach Slasnagel,

and then he ends up leaving Texas A and M
to come to the University of Texas.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
He hits a home run at A and M.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
He rounds third base and kind of tells coach Slasnegel, yeah,
how you like them apples? Well, then he comes here,
he ends up not being the starting catcher, goes and
plays first base. He's been amazing over there for somebody
that hadn't had a chance to really play first base.
He's done an excellent job there, and just so you know,
(06:35):
he hits a walk off home run because they run,
they run, rule Auburn to sweep the weekend. Auburn at
the time was the number eight ranked team coming into
this weekend, and he ended up having eight RBIs in
the game. He's the fourth Longhorn to have eight RBIs
(06:55):
in the game since two thousand and eight, Brandon Belt
who went on in the big leagues, Porter Brand who
was a transfer, and Will Gasparino who did it earlier
this season. So for what we've been able to see
in this time, you're starting to see some different guys.
Adrian Rodriguez, the young infielder, Mark who's dealing with a

hand injury, hit a home run. That ball was hit
so far and loud, hit off the back of the
centerfield wall. It was ruled a double at first, but
then they went back and reviewed it it was a
home run. And then all of a sudden, Casey Borba
hit a big, big blast home run to left field.
(07:37):
Texas had a fifteen hits in that game, but the
story ended up being a young player getting an opportunity
to play, and we'll talk about that in marharts Knock's life.
But I want you to hear what coach Slasnegel had
to say about Kimball Schustler and what he's been able
to achieve. What a day for Kimball Schusler.
Speaker 7 (07:58):
Man, What a guy, What an incredible leader, baseball player,
competitive athlete, on one of the top four or five
pure competitors that I've ever coached and honored to be
on his team.
Speaker 8 (08:11):
It was definitely in the back of my mind. I
knew we needed one more to go home early. But
at the end of the day, I was just hunting
the fastball and got.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
It and absolutely crushed the ball to end the ball game.
Texas goes on to win, and as I said, they
are the number one team in the SEC. But there
was another young player that got an opportunity to play
this weekend. All the hype was around Jonah Williams comes
(08:42):
to the ballpark, puts in the work on Friday. I
mean exc yeah, on Friday he gets his first two
college hits, and then on Sunday he goes three for three,
scoring two runs and making a couple of plays in
left field. Just so you know, folks, this kid is
seventeen years old. He's supposed to be playing high school baseball,
(09:04):
and Kimball Schustler noticed the talent that is Jonah Williams.
Speaker 8 (09:09):
We love Jonah. He's at the end of the day,
he's just a dog. I mean, he'll you put him
in there and he'll get it done. I mean, I
don't think there's many seventeen year olds out there doing
what he's doing at this level. So, I mean, he's
just a fierce competitor and I know he's just going
to keep getting better.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
And Texas has made a bunch of adjustments. When you
start to look at this team and how they've been
able to piece some things together. Situationally, Texas has dealt
with injury. Texas has dealt with injuries on the dirt,
on the outfield, and now on the pitchers. Now, Jared
Spencer comes out of the game on Thursday precautionary measures.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
They said he was sore.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
But he will get an opportunity to see if he
can pitch this weekend in a big series. Ruger Riojas
was only through thirty five pitches. I believe that it
was for him to get an opportunity. He may be
put into that Friday role.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
One thing's for sure.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
No matter what's going on, Texas has pushed the right
buttons right now. And those are the types of things, Mark,
that can't be denied, that can't be denied what we're
seeing or you did a hell of a job.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
I just want to let you know that you did
a hell of a job calling those games.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
You know, it's always good.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
I'm partial, Yeah, I s I show favoritism, but you
had a lot to work with with all of these
guys doing so well, like it seemed to me like
you were having a good time, like like you out
there calling the game like you were talking to your
friends in the barbershop.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Absolutely. Absolutely, And the thing about it is too Mark.
You know, we've seen some lean years around not not
like coach Pearce didn't take this team to Omaha, don't
get it twisted, but the energy becomes infectionous around here,
and it just seems, as I said, they're pushing every
button the right way to make things happen. We're just

But coming up next we're gonna talk football, the trans portal,
and man, what is going on with that young man
from Oklahoma? Mark, I need you to shed some light

on this right here on the morning kickoff on Sports

the promo just a little while ago. This weekend will
be Texas Fan Day this Saturday, starting at nine to
eight m Fans can go to the team shop fire
sale at ten from ten to two Texas Game Day
(11:58):
Street Fest. Mark and I will be out there along
with Cam Parker, your Longhorn Game Day crew. Craig Way
will be joining us via of comrades, And of course
you get some on field experience twelve fifteen, you get
player autographs and so much more. But one of the
(12:19):
things that had been in the middle of the conversation,
Mark and the transfer portal opened last Tuesday and it
will run through the end of this week. But you
start to look around college football and you say, what's
next for some of these kids. I was at a
Crawfish will this past weekend and they brought up the
(12:42):
fact that there were ten thousand kids in the transfer portal.
Think about that. Ten thousand kids have now decided that
that's what they wanted to do. They wanted to get
into the transfer portal, and you start to really look
around and say, okay, where are we now in college athletics,
(13:04):
And everybody keeps saying, well, you blame the school, you
blame the NCAA, I blame the parents.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
I blame the parents a lot of times.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
And the reason being is because in our lives, Mark,
we've been blessed enough to do different things, so we've
seen different things happen, but at the end of it all,
we have to have some stability in our life. You
can move to place to place and do things that
you want to do, and that's cool if that's what
(13:34):
you want to do, But where's the foundation that is
being set for the next move, for the next job opportunity.
What are we doing as parents to say it's okay
to bounce from school to school to school, because at
the end of it, there's ten thousand people, Mark, ten
thousand players that are trying to go to another school.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
How does that even work?
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Cards you're acting like everybody has kuth, that everybody has laws.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
I'm trying to put some respect on people.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
Name Man.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
You trying, but that's not the reality of it. Like
some people, if you give them an inch, they want
to go a mile. The name, image and likeness is
not about who could be the richest. It's about being
comfortable and getting something for your name and the work
and what you added to that university that you go to.
(14:36):
What we're experiencing is free agency. And if the rules
say that you can ask for four million, people are
going to ask for four million. But if you put
a hard cap he no quarterback can't get more name,
image and likeness more than two million, and then reposition
(15:01):
have a number attached to it, then people will elect
more than stay where they are right well.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
For example, Texas now has just got a couple guys
into the transfer portal. Emmitt Moseley, the fifth we talked
about him already, the wide receiver from Stanford.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
They got the tight end Jack Injuries.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
We heard that on Thursday because our guy Eric Henry
of Horace twenty four seven have mentioned that in our
conversation that there may be some movement in that position.
We also get a kicker from Texas State in Mason Shipley,
who is a liberty heel kid, but he is also
replacing or given an opportunity to come in and replace

Burt Auburn because Bert Auburn decided it was time for
him to get into the transfer portal.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
But there's a.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
Young man that is in the middle of I guess
you could say some controversy. I guess he's a defensive
lineman from Oklahoma. He originally was. The conversation that happened
on Friday was that he was coming to the University
of Texas and we were all just sitting there saying,

how did this happen? Where did this come from? Because
he was in the middle of this transfer situation where
he was supposed to be the Oklahoma defensive tackle.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
Well, then it comes.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
Out yesterday that he has decided I'm staying at Oklahoma.
I'm confused about what happened here because the.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Colonist why you were confused? Why hard I'm gonna tell
you what happened. He entered the portal a leverage. There's
other people that are getting six hundred, like I'm getting
five fifty, and they go, all right, well, let's let's
(17:04):
have the money and make everything even.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
And then you stay, it's not rocket science.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
Well, it's funny that you say that, because Steve Sarcassian
has a different philosophy when it comes to you're negotiating power.
Speaker 9 (17:22):
The moment you go in the transfer portal at the
University of Texas, you're no longer coming back, which I
think a lot of schools do kids go and test
the waters and try to come back.
Speaker 5 (17:33):
We're not.
Speaker 9 (17:33):
I'm not playing that game. If you want to go
in the portal, going the portal, good luck to you.
Speaker 4 (17:38):
Hey, hey, I'm not mad at it. I am I'm
not mad. I am not either agree either with us
or you against this. Who like you?
Speaker 2 (17:49):
If you if you negotiating the contract, you negotiating the
off season like they're they're in season. Yeah, like what's next?
You're waiting to after the Cotton Bowl? All right before
the Cotton Bowl and you say, you know what, I
don't know if I'm gonna play without that one hundred

thousand dollars bonus.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
Well, see, this is where it gets interesting to me.
Because the transfer portal is open, you do have those opportunities.
But I think here's the conversation. Now, I understand that
there's hard conversations that are being had day in and
day out because just like the transfer portal is opening,
(18:35):
there's conversations with the coaches because you know exit meetings.
You have those meetings about all right, man, what is
your role going to be with this team moving forward?
Do you feel like this is an opportunity or a
place for you to be that you're going to stick
it out and grow. I understand that sometimes those hard
(18:57):
conversations may not be wanting to transfer, you're being asked
to transfer.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
I'm not naive to that.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
But again, it's difficult because of the simple fact that
when you put yourself in that position, and again I understand,
coaches come to you and say, I just don't think
you're getting it. I don't know if you're gonna be
able to play here, blah blah blah. I get that.
So it's not always those kids getting in the transfer
(19:26):
portal because they're searching for something different. It may be
because they've been asked to go search for something different.
But again, how do you navigate those waters if you're
not that five star, four star type of player that
can be impactful somewhere else, how do you navigate that?
Speaker 2 (19:50):
Well, it would be hard for me to. I would
be more on the coach Sarkizan playing with the portal
like I'm gonna say what our needs are and if
we have somebody that's interested, let's go after it.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
And if not, then we're gonna have to work with
what we got.
Speaker 2 (20:10):
But the one thing I'm not gonna do hardest, I'm
not going to negotiate with an agent during season like
this is they're preparing right now the core of their team,
and just because the actual football season hadn't started, the
(20:32):
preparation and the install for the season has started back.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
So it's gonna be this whole transfer portal deal and
what the expectations are and where they're planning to go
is something that I do believe that they've got to
get a hold of this thing. Mark.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
I mean, it just can't.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
Be all willy nilly all the time, where these moments
seem to slip away because I see the writing on
the wall, and as a parent, and I'm sure you
feel the same way. Well, I'm not going to speak
for you, but I know as a parent of a
kid that is coming up and his opportunities now are

kind of changing, it's going to be a difficult path
to take because there's so many other people that are
looking If coach Miller is looking at a kid that's
already got stripes on the wall that limits what my
son's opportunity or the next man's sons opportunities are going
(21:33):
to be. So you got to find a home and
you got to make the best of your home. Coming

They talked about Bo nos and a lot of folks

are excited about Bo Jackson. Just so happened that Texas
was playing Auburn this weekend, and I got a text
message and a conversation that was generated by a former
Texas Longhorn baseball player, and he sent me a text message,

do we we have our version of Bo Jackson?
Speaker 3 (23:03):
I said no, but I am intrigued. He said, Wow,
that was a quick No.
Speaker 1 (23:09):
I've been hearing about this kid for quite some time,
and obviously there are some things that might have happened
that have kind of given you the impression of an
impressive start.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
And although.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
I am excited as much as the next person, I
am really intrigued to see how this all plays out.
And the person that I'm talking about is Jonah Williams,
the five star free safety athlete that is going to
(23:47):
be on the football field. And you can see him
at DKR Texas Memorial Stadium in the fall, but right
now you're at UFCU dishfalk Field and he got a
chance to play this past weekend and he did not disappoint.

Stretch from the left hander Kate Fisher.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Here's the pitcher.
Speaker 10 (24:09):
Swe on and that is lying in the left center
up as hit rounding third, coming into scores Tommy Farmer.
There's the first collegiate hit for Jonah Williams. It drives
in a run and it's for nothing Texas.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Not only was it his first collegiate hit, it was
his first collegiate RBI. And when I tell you that
the folks in that stadium were excited as all get out,
I can't express it. You can hear it right there, Mark, and.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
Then he was anytime that you have a guy that
is seventeen years old, graduated school early just so they
can go and get acclimated to the college life. I
knew a lot of seventeen year olds and I don't
know any.
Speaker 4 (25:01):
That are ready for the big time. He walked into
the big time like it wasn't no big deal.
Speaker 1 (25:08):
And this is a guy that has had to deal
with some injury when he first got to the University
of Texas. He had to bide his time. He had
to wait for other people to get injured as well
for him to get this opportunity. But he wasn't done.
And that very next that bat, he had another opportunity.
Speaker 10 (25:28):
A two ball, two strike pitch to Jonah Williams, swings
here and lines it in the center field. It will
drop from a cent and it will drive in two runs.
How about the freshman Jonah Williams. He has his first
career hit, then his first career two hit game, and
his first three RBIs two there and the log Worns

pushed back with two when they.

Lead six to two. But he wasn't done on Sunday,
I mean Saturday, excuse me because the games got moved up.
In a fourteen to two she lacking of the Auburn Tigers,
all Jonah Williams was able to do was go three
for three, score two runs, get a walk, and steal

a base. Jonah Williams hype train is something that is
truly truly amazing. And as these things start to happen
and continue to happen a lot of folks around the
forty Acres are excited. I want you to hear what
coach Slopsnegel had to say about Jonah Williams.

I think I'd be a lot.
Speaker 11 (26:39):
Of trouble one more fans Jonah woman out there, but yeah,
he's earned it.
Speaker 4 (26:43):
Think about Jonahs.
Speaker 11 (26:44):
You got to think about how you know in today's
youth athlete, You know, there aren't that many multi sports
people in high school, much less than comply and considering
how many baseball games youth baseball teams.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
Kids play these days.
Speaker 11 (27:00):
He's probably played forty percent of the games and the
rest of the guys in our dugout. But that's why
I love football players.
Speaker 12 (27:06):
Because I would much rather have a guy play meaning
full football game or a basketball game or soccer game
where you're trying to play and win for your team,
then play a boatload of meaning less summer in ball
baseball games.
Speaker 11 (27:19):
I'm not discounting, you know, the development that happens when
you play.
Speaker 4 (27:23):
All those baseball games.
Speaker 11 (27:24):
But I think there is something to be said for
being a super competitor, and that's what he is.
Speaker 4 (27:29):
I didn't tell him one today. He did that on
his own.
Speaker 12 (27:32):
He used the whole field to hit, So yeah, he's
going to be playing left field too tonight.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
Now here's the thing that I think was very important.
Two things that coach said. Number One, he is he
is a multi sport athlete, so his time at one
sport takes away from time at another. A lot of
kids are playing eighty five game in summer league, ridiculous,
(28:04):
ridiculous amount of games. Doesn't make sense. He's going over
there and being able to do both things. The other
point of it is, I've been around as you a
bunch of seventeen year old kids.
Speaker 3 (28:17):
The thing that stands out to me, Mark is that
he's supposed to be.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
Going to his prom. When kids come to college early,
they come to college to go and play football. This
is the first time besides what I remember when Bryce
Harper and Bryce Harper skipped his senior year went to
college because kids weren't pitching to him. This dude skipped
(28:43):
his senior year. He's supposed to be trying to help
Galveston Ball get to the baseball playoffs in high school
and he's on the number one team in the SEC
and got five hits in two games as a college
left fielder. And the reason why he's getting this opportunity,
(29:05):
Max Blue is dealing with an injury. Who was the
Big twelve player of the year and was on fire
at the beginning. Adrian Rodriguez had a hand injury. He's
getting a chance to come back, but Eathan Mendoza is
dealing with an injury as well. So Jonah Williams is
Wally Pippen even though he is a bona fide star
(29:27):
and is going to be even better as he gets
more reps.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
Hey, that guy right there, harje If I if I
played him, if I play if I had him behind me,
I would be waring.
Speaker 4 (29:41):
I'd be wanting to change positions because you know he coming,
you know he coming.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
And if in any athlete, when you know that somebody
else could do a better job than you can, you
gotta stand aside. If you're a true team player and
you have to do with this, He's going to be
one of those guys.

As coach said, I didn't ask him to bunt.

He did it on his own and he got a
knock out of it because the dude understands competitiveness and
how the game should be played. Welcome to the forty Acres,

Texas softball has had its ups and downs. They're no

battled through in the number three versus number nine matchup.
So during that time, Texas on Friday, or excuse me,
on Thursday, they hit a walk off Grand Slam, and
then this weekend they end up losing Game two, but
they find a way to win Game three.

Texas comes into a new conference, but the results remain
the same. They win championships, and I know that the
tennis team is real excited as they continue their journey.

personal show which we sold two, thousand tickets. SOLD out,

on stage their, theme songs and it was a good

time to be half. For everybody jacob showed up and
did his, BEST karaoke im precious and.

Like had a. Good time but the thing that my
take is on is.

A lot of the athletes need to take ownership and
their selves rather than allowing other People TO.

And i was a product of that too early in.

MY career i let everybody else, do everything AND then
i just sat BACK and i made, all APPEARANCES but
i didn't make all. The money and now IT'S like
i want them to think about from a business standpoint
of HOW can i? Do something and YOU and i
gonna put our heads Together In. New orleans we're gonna

we're gonna, be very very busy next year.

followed all weekend LONG when i had some time to
kind of gather my thoughts about what was. Going on but,

those types of events you alluded to it being like
The super bowl of certain things and, the world, you
know just certain things that are those singular events that
everybody loves to go. And see and, You know WrestleMania
now has turned into, two nights which to me is

really really just goes to the credit to the business
of it all that you can grab an audience for
that many days and, understand, that hey while we're, out
here let's let's Check, Out WrestleMania let's go to. These
events let's go look at, This party let's go look at.
That party you get to meet this person and be.
Around it it's. All interesting but like The, super bowl

it's an epic week, of events and The super bowl
can get kind of tiring. At times just like, you
said this is probably the busiest. You've been but when
you Go To super bowl events or you go To
The national championship of, college football it's, a busy busy
time because you're you're people think it's all fun in

glory and you don't really realize it's work for people
like ourselves because we're setting up, the interviews we're trying
to make sure that.

To be, we're yeah and constantly talking the entire time.
As well, so yeah you try to decompress and have,
a day but it's hard when you're there.

with WrestleMania. From what all looks and likes, seems to
be a pretty interesting one. I, myself my friend were
and was in town in Austin, Texas, babe, and I
was holding it down for SEC network plus got a
chance to call some outstanding Top ten baseball this weekend

and the Texas Longhorns sweet the Auburn Tigers.

Texas was number one at the time.

They will be number one again. Mark Texas went out
and had an unbelievable weekend sweeping Auburn. They are now
thirty three and five, sixteen and two in the SEC,
three games ahead, three games ahead, full games ahead of
Arkansas who is now thirteen and five, LSU who is

twelve and six, Tennessee twelve and six, Vanderbilt is eleven
and seven. The list goes on and on, and then
you have your Texas A and M fighting Aggie's who
are sitting at eight and ten. A and M comes
in two Austin, Texas dish fault field to take on
the Texas Longhorns this weekend, and let's just say it

is going to be out of control in Austin, Texas
this coming weekend.

you know the story of it all. Coach Slasnego being
at Texas A and m his team getting to the
College World Series, just losing it right at the very end,
and then all of a sudden he becomes the head
coach at the University of Texas and the rest is history.

But before that, Texas has to take on Texas State
Tech in San Marcos. Texas ends up losing to Texas State,
and of course Texas State fans are the SEC champs
because they beat Texas at home, so they're thinking themselves
as that as that type of team.

Obviously, I said, I was on the call this weekend
and Kimball Schusler had put on a performance like no other.

red hot weekend continues standing at second seven to one.

to be. When your hottest fish grease like Kimball Schusler
is the young man from Atlanto. The ball is looking
like a beach ball to him right now, and he's
taking quality cuts.

And making solid contact.

And he's being rewarded for his efforts. Kimball Schusler, as
I said, he is somebody that has been an integral
part of the success. And the story goes with Kimball Schusler.
For those that don't know, Kimball Schusler went to Texas
A and M. First, he was there with coach Slasnagel,

and then he ends up leaving Texas A and M
to come to the University of Texas.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
He hits a home run at A and M.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
He rounds third base and kind of tells coach Slasnegel, yeah,
how you like them apples? Well, then he comes here,
he ends up not being the starting catcher, goes and
plays first base. He's been amazing over there for somebody
that hadn't had a chance to really play first base.
He's done an excellent job there, and just so you know,
(06:35):
he hits a walk off home run because they run,
they run, rule Auburn to sweep the weekend. Auburn at
the time was the number eight ranked team coming into
this weekend, and he ended up having eight RBIs in
the game. He's the fourth Longhorn to have eight RBIs
(06:55):
in the game since two thousand and eight, Brandon Belt
who went on in the big leagues, Porter Brand who
was a transfer, and Will Gasparino who did it earlier
this season. So for what we've been able to see
in this time, you're starting to see some different guys.
Adrian Rodriguez, the young infielder, Mark who's dealing with a
(07:16):
hand injury, hit a home run. That ball was hit
so far and loud, hit off the back of the
centerfield wall. It was ruled a double at first, but
then they went back and reviewed it it was a
home run. And then all of a sudden, Casey Borba
hit a big, big blast home run to left field.
(07:37):
Texas had a fifteen hits in that game, but the
story ended up being a young player getting an opportunity
to play, and we'll talk about that in marharts Knock's life.
But I want you to hear what coach Slasnegel had
to say about Kimball Schustler and what he's been able
to achieve. What a day for Kimball Schusler.

Man, What a guy, What an incredible leader, baseball player,
competitive athlete, on one of the top four or five
pure competitors that I've ever coached and honored to be
on his team.
Speaker 8 (08:11):
It was definitely in the back of my mind. I
knew we needed one more to go home early. But
at the end of the day, I was just hunting
the fastball and got.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
It and absolutely crushed the ball to end the ball game.
Texas goes on to win, and as I said, they
are the number one team in the SEC. But there
was another young player that got an opportunity to play
this weekend. All the hype was around Jonah Williams comes
(08:42):
to the ballpark, puts in the work on Friday. I
mean exc yeah, on Friday he gets his first two
college hits, and then on Sunday he goes three for three,
scoring two runs and making a couple of plays in
left field. Just so you know, folks, this kid is
seventeen years old. He's supposed to be playing high school baseball,
(09:04):
and Kimball Schustler noticed the talent that is Jonah Williams.
Speaker 8 (09:09):
We love Jonah. He's at the end of the day,
he's just a dog. I mean, he'll you put him
in there and he'll get it done. I mean, I
don't think there's many seventeen year olds out there doing
what he's doing at this level. So, I mean, he's
just a fierce competitor and I know he's just going
to keep getting better.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
And Texas has made a bunch of adjustments. When you
start to look at this team and how they've been
able to piece some things together. Situationally, Texas has dealt
with injury. Texas has dealt with injuries on the dirt,
on the outfield, and now on the pitchers. Now, Jared
Spencer comes out of the game on Thursday precautionary measures.

They said he was sore.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
But he will get an opportunity to see if he
can pitch this weekend in a big series. Ruger Riojas
was only through thirty five pitches. I believe that it
was for him to get an opportunity. He may be
put into that Friday role.

One thing's for sure.

No matter what's going on, Texas has pushed the right
buttons right now. And those are the types of things, Mark,
that can't be denied, that can't be denied what we're
seeing or you did a hell of a job.

You know, it's always good.

I'm partial, Yeah, I s I show favoritism, but you
had a lot to work with with all of these

You know, we've seen some lean years around not not
like coach Pearce didn't take this team to Omaha, don't
get it twisted, but the energy becomes infectionous around here,
and it just seems, as I said, they're pushing every

will be joining us via of comrades, And of course
you get some on field experience twelve fifteen, you get
player autographs and so much more. But one of the

things that had been in the middle of the conversation,
Mark and the transfer portal opened last Tuesday and it
will run through the end of this week. But you
start to look around college football and you say, what's
next for some of these kids. I was at a
Crawfish will this past weekend and they brought up the

fact that there were ten thousand kids in the transfer portal.
Think about that. Ten thousand kids have now decided that
that's what they wanted to do. They wanted to get
into the transfer portal, and you start to really look
around and say, okay, where are we now in college athletics,
(13:04):
And everybody keeps saying, well, you blame the school, you
blame the NCAA, I blame the parents.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
I blame the parents a lot of times.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
And the reason being is because in our lives, Mark,
we've been blessed enough to do different things, so we've
seen different things happen, but at the end of it all,
we have to have some stability in our life. You
can move to place to place and do things that
you want to do, and that's cool if that's what
(13:34):
you want to do, But where's the foundation that is
being set for the next move, for the next job opportunity.
What are we doing as parents to say it's okay
to bounce from school to school to school, because at
the end of it, there's ten thousand people, Mark, ten
thousand players that are trying to go to another school.

How does that even work?
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Cards you're acting like everybody has kuth, that everybody has laws.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
I'm trying to put some respect on people.

You trying, but that's not the reality of it. Like
some people, if you give them an inch, they want
to go a mile. The name, image and likeness is
not about who could be the richest. It's about being
comfortable and getting something for your name and the work
and what you added to that university that you go to.

What we're experiencing is free agency. And if the rules
say that you can ask for four million, people are
going to ask for four million. But if you put
a hard cap he no quarterback can't get more name,

your role going to be with this team moving forward?
Do you feel like this is an opportunity or a
place for you to be that you're going to stick
it out and grow. I understand that sometimes those hard

conversations may not be wanting to transfer, you're being asked
to transfer.

I'm not naive to that.

But again, it's difficult because of the simple fact that
when you put yourself in that position, and again I understand,
coaches come to you and say, I just don't think
you're getting it. I don't know if you're gonna be
able to play here, blah blah blah. I get that.
So it's not always those kids getting in the transfer

portal because they're searching for something different. It may be
because they've been asked to go search for something different.
But again, how do you navigate those waters if you're
not that five star, four star type of player that
can be impactful somewhere else, how do you navigate that?

Well, it would be hard for me to. I would
be more on the coach Sarkizan playing with the portal
like I'm gonna say what our needs are and if
we have somebody that's interested, let's go after it.

And if not, then we're gonna have to work with

But the one thing I'm not gonna do hardest, I'm
not going to negotiate with an agent during season like
this is they're preparing right now the core of their team,

chance to play this past weekend and he did not disappoint.

his first collegiate RBI. And when I tell you that
the folks in that stadium were excited as all get out,

is seventeen years old, graduated school early just so they
can go and get acclimated to the college life. I
knew a lot of seventeen year olds and I don't
know any.

That are ready for the big time. He walked into
the big time like it wasn't no big deal.

And this is a guy that has had to deal
with some injury when he first got to the University
of Texas. He had to bide his time. He had
to wait for other people to get injured as well
for him to get this opportunity. But he wasn't done.
And that very next that bat, he had another opportunity.

A two ball, two strike pitch to Jonah Williams, swings
here and lines it in the center field. It will
drop from a cent and it will drive in two runs.
How about the freshman Jonah Williams. He has his first
career hit, then his first career two hit game, and

Lead six to two. But he wasn't done on Sunday,
I mean Saturday, excuse me because the games got moved up.
In a fourteen to two she lacking of the Auburn Tigers,

a base. Jonah Williams hype train is something that is
truly truly amazing. And as these things start to happen
and continue to happen a lot of folks around the

youth athlete, You know, there aren't that many multi sports
people in high school, much less than comply and considering
how many baseball games youth baseball teams.

He's probably played forty percent of the games and the
rest of the guys in our dugout. But that's why
I love football players.

Because I would much rather have a guy play meaning
full football game or a basketball game or soccer game
where you're trying to play and win for your team,
then play a boatload of meaning less summer in ball
baseball games.

I'm not discounting, you know, the development that happens when
you play.

All those baseball games.

But I think there is something to be said for
being a super competitor, and that's what he is.

going to be playing left field too tonight.

Now here's the thing that I think was very important.
Two things that coach said. Number One, he is he
is a multi sport athlete, so his time at one
sport takes away from time at another. A lot of
kids are playing eighty five game in summer league, ridiculous,

ridiculous amount of games. Doesn't make sense. He's going over
there and being able to do both things. The other
point of it is, I've been around as you a
bunch of seventeen year old kids.

The thing that stands out to me, Mark is that
he's supposed to be.

Going to his prom. When kids come to college early,
they come to college to go and play football. This
is the first time besides what I remember when Bryce
Harper and Bryce Harper skipped his senior year went to
college because kids weren't pitching to him. This dude skipped

his senior year. He's supposed to be trying to help
Galveston Ball get to the baseball playoffs in high school
and he's on the number one team in the SEC
and got five hits in two games as a college
left fielder. And the reason why he's getting this opportunity,

Max Blue is dealing with an injury. Who was the
Big twelve player of the year and was on fire
at the beginning. Adrian Rodriguez had a hand injury. He's
getting a chance to come back, but Eathan Mendoza is
dealing with an injury as well. So Jonah Williams is
Wally Pippen even though he is a bona fide star

and is going to be even better as he gets
more reps.

Hey, that guy right there, harje If I if I
played him, if I play if I had him behind me,
I would be waring.

then this weekend they end up losing Game two, but
they find a way to win Game three.

But one of the swing, one of the big swings,
happened during this game.

I can't speak for her, but I think these home

Yeah, that's right. There's something that's got to change at
that particular point. But Texas finds a way to get
that win, and it is it was huge because it
was number three versus number nine. Texas just continues to battle.

SEC and they continue to work through these particular moments.

This conference is not easy.

Gronsi was named to the All Tournament team as well.
Texas comes into a new conference, but the results remain
the same. They win championships, and I know that the
tennis team is real excited as they continue their journey.
