in the franchise. You guys mightknow it if you do sing along.

so it's a special one in myheart. Let's do it. You

gonna stap usle The world will beours. What's my name? What's my
name? Say loud out? Hey, a lies on mean, let me

(02:01):
see them. I'm the new kidin town. I'm off the buck.
You know who I am. Idon't bend the knee back down. Your
pastors passed. There's no second chance. It's my time. I'm up next.
My mom's as mean as it gets. So say my name is say

(02:23):
lest I don't follow rules with alldisrespect. You know what they say?
Bad goes up all the fun.All these chicks, stop the kids.
I'm a one of one, andI'm troublesome, little misbehaved. Look at
all your vks. They're all middleage. Hey, maybe I could be

They're all washed up. I'm thenext wave, from the cradle to

No one's kinda step a, Sothe work will beers. What's my
name? What's my name? Sayloud? Out Hey, say loud.

(03:22):
It's a classic. It's a classic. And funny thing about that song that
was so crazy was I actually dida cover of What's my Name on this
Disney special a few years back.I was like fourteen on the Descendants remix
dance party, So getting to likebe on the song now on the official
remix was like so mind blowing,So yeah, full circle moment. But

(03:45):
this next song, it just hitten million views on YouTube, so insane,
and it's literally been out like forless than a month. So yeah,
it's crazy. But it's called redand if you know where you should
sing along hit it. I'm arebel, I'm a men of some of

(04:15):
one girl riot Yeah yeah, yeah, slipping through the shadows like I'm ultra
violet, yeah yeah. Hearts onthe walls, but no love in these
streets. Appetite for destruction, thegirl's gotta eat. Yeah, tell Thelma
shoulder and it won't be quet.Yeah, yeah, on a path of

(04:39):
destruction. This is kinda be fun. Set it off good berserk to not
a light it up like fireworks, burn it down on the sand now bread
red red, red red hair sayingred se ah, it's criminal. How

(05:06):
you follow the crown? This inthe air, boots on the ground.
I hear the sound and it's gettingloud yelling red red Ray, I'm breaking
in called the gods, raise thealarm, Princess of hearts. They have
to dark off with their heads, leave them for dead, Red Ray on

(05:27):
the destruction. They gonna think, come on wan, hey, set it
up, compass their son a lightit up black fire works, tear it
down, then pake this towne.I don't want my bathcro boy, some
clean looking to my eyes say thefire really burn it down? Sallow to

(05:51):
see it now? Red well whereRay saying red? Hey very thank you

(06:17):
guys, so so much. Ohthis was so fun. Thank you guys.
Hopefully you watch the movie and you'renot like, what are these songs?
This is awkward, but hey,if you haven't seen it, hopefully
it inspires you to go home andwatch it. It's really cute. Thank

(06:38):
you guys. Should we do aQ and a let's do it, let's
do it. Heyo, one moretime, let's show some loved Kylie Cantrell.
So MBD new movie just drop itdid and it broke the Disney Plus
streaming record for the most streamed moviein a three day period. Dog,

(07:00):
how crazy is that? It's insane? What So when did you get that
info? Literally an hour ago?I kid you, not an hour ago.
I was in my hotel and Igot a call from my manager and
he was like, hey, bythe way, like Super Casual were the
most streamed Disney branded television film everfor the first three days that it's only

(07:23):
been out. Insane. And Ithink of all the success of Disney right
there's a lot of different age groupsin this room right now, and obviously
you know, millennials and gen zet cetera, with all the different franchises
and movies that have been in Disney. But all of a sudden, you
become a star and records get shator Dog, I'm just saying it's a
coincidence. Maybe not. Maybe it'sabout you, is what I'm trying to
say. But let's talk about Kylieback in the day just a little bit.

(07:45):
What got you to it. Whatgot you into wanting to get into
show business? My origin story,my villain origin story. Actually, I
so I grew up in like themost artistic household. My dad, who's
over there, is a songwriter.Yeah, I'm hyping him up, producer
everything. He's so embarrassed right now. But no, I grew up with

(08:11):
him and my mom, who's adancer and choreographer. So you could say
it was in the blood, butno, it felt very natural to kind
of pursue the arts. I waspushing my parents the minute I got potty
trained. I was in dance class, I was singing in the studio,
I was writing songs in my bedroom. So it only felt natural that this
would be what I would pursue forthe rest of my life. I literally

(08:35):
can't fall back on anything else.I suck at math in school. Girl,
you and I both That's why Ido this. What artists inspired you
like when you were young young, like for as long as you can remember,
who were like the first that youwere like, Oh I want to
be like them, or anything alongthose lines. The first person that comes
to mind for me is Zindaya.I looked up to her so much.

(08:58):
I still do but and it's coolthat she also comes from Disney. She
was Queen of Disney at that time. I mean, Shake It Up was
like my ultimate favorite show growing up, and they were dancers on the show,
and she sang, and she wasjust so cool. And she's just
made such a flawless transition from Disneyinto music and also obviously like blockbuster films,

(09:20):
and yeah, I see myself leadinga similar path. But I think
she's an icon. So I dohave a question because there's a few songs
on the soundtrack that you're on several, but how is how different is it
making music of your own compared tomaking music specifically for a soundtrack that's going
to be part of a movie.Well, you definitely don't have as much

(09:41):
creative freedom to do what you wantto do. Of course, there's like
a bunch of Mickey mouses as wecall them, that are obviously, you
know, kind of steering the shipand I'm just another kind of vessel for
that for this bigger vision. Butno, the soundtrack is so fun and
I think that like I would reallybump these songs, which is awesome,

(10:03):
Like these songs I would actually listento, So it made it that much
more natural in the studio to recordthem because I already loved them so much.
But I think making my own music, obviously it comes from a way
more vulnerable place. I'm telling mystory and just sharing what's true to me
in that moment, So of coursethat's that's a difference. But I mean,

(10:24):
I love the songs in the soundtrack, so it was easy to kind
of make them my own. Now, when we talk about your own music
and doing your own things, areyou more of a notes person on your
phone that writes lyrics or a voicememo person who hums melodies and might just
say the lyrics aloud voice memo forsure? For sure. I mean I
do a little bit of both.Like sometimes I'll be I don't know,

(10:45):
like taking a shower or something, and I'll be like, oh, that's
like a cool concept or a coollittle lyric, and I'll write it in
my notes app, for sure.Even though I want to start getting into
writing things on paper because I feellike that, I don't know, it's
more vintage, and there's it's justsomething more real about writing it and me
and your dad feels so old rightnow about you just talking about writing on

(11:05):
paper. Yeah, that's you know, times have changed when that's sounds like
a crazy concept. Did you learna penmanship by any chance? Not really?
Yeah, they're like completely stopped penmanship. I know I can't write cursive
either. Well, you know yoursignature at least, yeah, at least
I know that someone just out herejust making stuff up and signing things on
your behalf. So what is yourfavorite song to perform from this movie to

(11:30):
send? Oh? I mean Red. I haven't done too many performances because
of course we've been tight lipped aboutthe songs and everything before the movie came
out, But now that it's out, I want to perform it everywhere.
I love the Red song. Ijust did a performance of it at Vidcom
that was kind of the debut ofthe song and me performing it for the
first time for a live crowd, and the energy was just insane. I

(11:52):
was in full costume, I hadten backup dancers a screen behind me with
like clips from the movie and itwas just unreal the energy in that in
that room. I know you remembervividly, So we want to know all
about it. That moment that yougot the call, that you got the
role as Red. We take usinto that room, that hotel room,

(12:13):
that bedroom, that phone call, that email, that FaceTime, whatever it
was. I always say it's themost anti climactic story because I was going
that I know I'm gonna be soreal. But yeah, I remember I
came out of a meeting with mywhole team, so I was like with
my manager and everyone, which wasvery convenient, and I wonder if that

(12:35):
was staged. I need to askabout that, but no, I was
with my whole team and we're walkingout of this meeting and my manager's like,
oh wait, it's it's your agenton the phone. He has something
to tell you. He puts iton speaker, and my agent did the
annoying like classic, Kylie, Ihave some bad news for you, like
you're gonna be really busy in January. I was like why, He's like,

(12:56):
because you booked the role of Red. And it was this, you
know, big moment. Of course, the tears started happening right away.
My dad was crying, I wascrying. I called my bestie and she
was crying, and it was justa lot of happy tears but ecstatic.
But it's safe to say that youragent is an agent because they couldn't act
very well. Is that what you'resaying. Yeah, I don't think the

(13:16):
acting skills were there, but theintention was there. I that's something me
and my cast always joke about becauseliterally all of them got the news broke
into them the same way. They'reagent doing that classic like teasing thing.
Agents love to do that. Ifeel like we're part of the job description.
Okay, we need to come upwith a new way of like breaking
news because I found out I gotmy dream job here that exact same way.

(13:37):
Why do people love doing that? It's a week, but I feel
like it's played out like the emotionalroller post, laid out like, hey
here's bad news. Yes, wegot to come up with something different.
Agents do better. Yes, let'scome up with a new thing. If
there's one thing to take away fromthis very Q and A is that we
need to evolve as a news tellingsociety. I think so most important lesson.

(14:00):
So you are, as I saidbefore in your intro all things singing,
songwriter, actor, actress, dancer. What is the one favorite thing
that you like to do the mostperforming? So singing and dancing I think
they go hand in hand. Butperforming is also acting. You're performing when
you're acting. Of course you're playinga character, but it still comes from

(14:20):
the same place. And I dofeel like performing is where I feel the
most at home for an audience forpeople. So I would say that a
little birdie told me that you're afan of TLC? Is that true?
Yeah? Who told you? Who'sthis birdie? They're named Wikipedia? Everyone

(14:45):
be hearing stuff from Wikipedia. Howdoes he know everything about me? Yeah?
Wiki's that dude, dog or maybeit's a woman. It's twenty twenty
four and if anybody knows information onthings that we shouldn't, probably women over
men TLC. Really, Yes,what's your favorite TLC song of all time?

(15:05):
That's hard? That's hard. We'llgo classic and say no scrubs,
Okay, I like that. Idon't hate it. It's a pretty flawless
song. In my opinion, thatwhole album was dope. It's no crazy,
sexually cool, but fan Mail isstill dope. Yeah, no,
for real? And that was theirlast album. Like as a as a
squad, so sad. But growingup listening to TLC, what other artists

(15:28):
were you kind of like really goinginto and enjoying their music overall? Well,
TLC is a good example of likenineties. I'm obsessed with the nineties.
I feel like all of our bestperformers and greatest artists came from that
time. That's a fact. Yeahfor real? Like Aliyah, I mean
Brandy, So you're an R andB girl? I am an R and

(15:52):
B girl? Okay? Yeah? Was it Never Say Never a Brandy's album?
Was that the name of it?Yeah? Yeah, I can tell
you every song on it. Ican sing every song on it. Have
you ever is my joint dog?Have you ever some? So? Oh?
I just got goosebumps. That wasweird. I don't like that supposed
to be manly? Is that atear coming down on your face? You
No, I'm going through things. But so R and B fan growing up,

(16:18):
that's what's up now? Is thatthe music that you heard growing up?
Or is that something that you gravitatedtowards yourself? I feel like,
I mean, my dad definitely wasthe one who exposed me to music at
the earliest stage, and I thinkhe did such a good job of exposing
me to all different kinds of music, I mean, rock, jazz,
R and B pop, But Idefinitely naturally gravitated towards more R and B

(16:40):
and pop. So yeah, that'slike the space I love. That's the
kind of music I want to make. So a lot of people may just
be hearing about you for the veryfirst time because of the Descendants movie.
What is something you want those peopleto know about? Kylie Cantrell? The
person? The person? I don'tknow. I feel like I don't take

(17:02):
myself too seriously and I don't know. I'm an astrology girl. Yeah,
I'm a cancer, he said,there's the door. I'm a virgo.
No, we're actually like a goodmatch. Though people say that cancers and
virgos compliment each other because they're veryopposite. My failed relationships tell me otherwise.

(17:32):
However, go on, damn,we got personal here. Okay,
I love it. Let's get alittle personal. No, I do resonate
with being a cancer. I thinkit helps me. I feel like it
helps me so much as an artistthat I am kind of emotional and a
bit more sensitive. I think ithelps me tap into that when I'm performing

(17:53):
with acting and music, I thinkI'm able to be vulnerable, And yeah,
it helps me with this job.If I worked like as a secretary,
I don't know if that would helpas much. You'll just be that
girl that opens up to everyone thatcomes into the office. We all have
that type of person in every walkof like office life. Totally, they
should just be songwriters exactly. Thenyou can get paid to do that.

(18:15):
So, talking about vulnerability and songwriting, has there ever been a time where
you felt so vulnerable on a songthat you were like hesitant to bring it
to your team or even your father. Oh for sure, Yeah. No.
I mean it's interesting because like mydad is, you know, so
a part of the process with mymusic of course, Like he's the person
that like taught me everything I know. So I always like play him songs

(18:37):
that I write in different things.I'm like, oh, what do you
think And He'll be like, it'llbe like a song where I'm spilling tea
about like a boy or something. He's like, oh, and just out
of curiosity, like what's this songabout? Is it something that's like a
real life experience or and yeah,I end up usually spilling the tea to
him. Well that's good, You'rekeeping an open for sure. Which listen,

(18:59):
I have a nine month daughter. It is my first congrats, thank
you, thank you. I wantto have that line of communication with her
as she gets older. Now Ido have a personal question. I hope
you guys don't mind that. I'mgoing to ask her for, like dad
advice real quick? Yeah, coolwith that? All right? Cool?
Thank you? What do you thinkI should get my daughter into first?
Like? Dance? Dance? Dancedance. You didn't even hesitate, dog?

(19:21):
Now what did that do for youfor your level of skill as you
got older in life? Everything?I literally owe everything to dance. I
think it helps with stage presence, discipline, just being aware of your body.
It helps with posing with you know, how I perform, how I

(19:41):
present myself, how I carry myself, how I stand, how I walk.
It all comes from those early daysof dance and confidence for sure.
Now what message do you have forfans of yours that are a little younger
that are struggling with that confidence?Get your button dance girl? I love

(20:03):
it. What can we expect fromKylie Cantrell in twenty twenty four and beyond,
even beyond the Descendants movie, Justa whole lot of you know what
I'm already doing, acting and singing, and lots of music, lots of
music and album and yeah, hopefullyanother Descendants movie if any Disney execs are

(20:26):
out there. I'm down. Listen. You don't break records and then not
have follow ups. Dog, thatis just bad business. That's true.
And if there's one thing Mickey isgood at, it's business. Okay,
final question before we wrap this up. We are into dunkin Lounge. So
if you had the chance to bein a Duncan for one hour with any
one artist, dead or alive, who are you going to kick it at

(20:48):
Duncan with? Right now? I'dhave to say, Charlie XCX, Wow,
I am a brat and I'm obsessedwith the Brat album. It's all
I play in the house. Oh, I think we have a brat in
the crowd, the one with theneon hair. Wow. You know what's
funny I'm talking now. Well, the funny thing is that there's another person

(21:10):
in the crowd with neon green intheir hair. And the moment you said
Charlie XCX, I looked right overat her because she also has neon green
nail. Because is it not abrat summer? It is exactly she gets
it. The girls who get itget it, got it, got it.
So Charlie XCX, you're the firstperson to ever say that, no
way what she seems so fun.She does seem like a lot of fun.

(21:32):
I have some stories from early onin her career that I'll share with
you in private. But she's agreat person. I'd love to hear them.
But you're even greater. One moretime, let's show some love to
Kylie KNT Trout
