(00:00):
Rosemont. Thank you guys so muchfor coming out. This is a salute
to service with Miller Lite kfan Kone O two min set the Vikings Radio
Network. I'm mus thank you guysso much for coming out here. We've
had people coming out in droves andwe absolutely love it. This week the
salute to service and could not bemore excited than to have Dalton rise there
(00:23):
with us, ladies and gentlemen, big number sixty six. We have so
many things to cover here, butfirst and foremost right away when he walks
in, this thing is sweet. His hoodie as he comes in and he
goes, my wife got it forme, and I'm like, wait a
minute. You had to order online? Yeah, man, she got it
(00:43):
from some company. I'm pretty surethey sent it to us, so I
was cool with it. She dressesme. I hate to admit it,
it's the truth. If she didit, I'd show up not looking so
good. So yeah, I mean, well, you play football, so
you're wearing everybody else's clothes. Iknow, man, All the time people
are telling me, hey, wherethis where that? People are telling me
what to wear on game day too, So I'm grateful for It's a good
blessing to have. Does she alsotake care of your fit when you're going
(01:07):
to you know, games and stufflike that. Anything you see me wearing,
especially before games, you know, she knows that's the big moment.
That's when the pictures are going tobe taken and the video as you're walking
in. Yeah, she does agood job with it. Man, Like,
just lay out whatever I'm supposed towear, put it out there on
Saturday, and I'll get it done. I love that. So you played
college at k State yep, andthen you get drafted by the Broncos,
(01:30):
sir, and then now you're herewith the Minnesota Vikings, and we could
not be more excited. Ladies andgentlemen. Thank you. Now here's the
thing. You were born in Branson, Missouri, Yes, sir, I
mean this is the home of likethe Oakreage Boys, Statler Brothers. Do
you go and do the Branson Didyou do that at all when you were
a kid. Because when you're herein Minnesota and you grew up in the
(01:55):
Twin Cities or you're around this area, mall of America is awesome. But
the only time you go there whensomebody else from out of town comes into
town, okay, all right,is Branson the same way. I've been
to Branson two or three times. We've done Silver Dollar City, the whole
deal. So I've really enjoyed it. Obviously, that's where I'm from,
so I love it. It's beena great time. I've been to Mall
of America once. Already, funnystory for all y'all senior trip from where
(02:19):
I come from. I'm from atown of eight hundred people, and I
literally got on a senior trip andtried to began to Weigains, Colorado,
and our senior trip was to makeit to Mall of America. We broke
down an hour outside of Minneapolis andhad to have our parents come back and
get us. So we didn't evenmake it. But I made it three
or four weeks ago, and itwas a pretty cool moment. I'm like,
you know, ten years later,I finally made it to the mall.
(02:43):
All right, So I have twoquestions for you, you know,
with the Branson, Missouri thing, but everything else and the fact that this
is the other question I really wantto ask you, is Dalton Please,
please, for the love of God, tell me that your parents named you
after Patrick Swayze from Roadhouse, JohnDalton, that's a madass right there.
(03:07):
I've seen a few of the memes. Man. I don't know if they
did. I've asked him a fewtimes. If they did, They're not
willing to admit it, but theydid. I think they might have.
Have you seen you? Have youseen the mo Yeah, I've seen the
movie Man Roadhouse. I mean it'sa classic. It's a class all is
a classic too, I don't mind. I think it's good. Crazy for
the swayze I think all of usare, and it's a fantastic movie.
(03:28):
Oh man, I'm just gonna gowith that. Every time I ever talked
to about you at all, andyeah, it's like you know, he
was named aftern Dalton, Patrick Swayzeyfrom Roadhouse. See if my parents ever
hear about it, we're good withit. It's good with me. It
gets back to him. Tell usabout you. You created a nonprofit that
(03:51):
you and your wife work on,right yeah, yeah. Before I do
get into that, I do wantto say two things to everybody here.
Being here and being a Minnesota Vikingsure does mean a lot to me,
And I'm very grateful to be apart of this organization. Grateful to be
here in this state, and younever know when last down, last play
(04:11):
of football you're gonna play in yourlife. And I say this with a
lot of certainty. If for somewild reason, this is the last year
of football I played my life,I'll be damn proud to end up being
a Viking. So thank you guysso much. And two with the salute
to service, I'd be remiss ifI didn't mention it. I have a
lot of people in my family thathave served in various different branches. My
brother was in the US Army, did his basic training in Fort Benning,
(04:35):
Georgia, his airborne infancy training inFort Bragg, and then was an Army
ranger out in Italy and went ontwo deployments. And I say that because
I'm the spoiled one here. Iget to play in front of millions of
people and people call me a heroon Sundays, and I get to do
this for a living, to playthe game of football. I don't think
(04:56):
I should be the one sitting overhere signing autographs. If anything, I'd
love to get the people that haveserved this country get your autographs, because
you guys are the real heroes. And I just want to say thank you
so much. Absolutely, look atthis, the whole place is standing out.
Man, this is so awesome.I couldn't do what I do on
Sundays without what you guys have donefor our countries, So thank you.
Isn't that amazing when you have familymembers and you have friends and people that
(05:21):
actually have made that commitment where youcould not be more proud of them,
which is what I absolutely love doingthis when we do Solute Service. We're
out at different locations all over themetro area and you can feel it.
And what I love about it,what you just said is that you're so
(05:41):
proud of your brother, You're soproud of the people that are here that
actually were once in service or maybecurrently in service. I mean, it's
amazing how big of heroes yes are. I mean the selflessness that it takes.
I mean, this world's priorities arecompletely mixed up. They've been mixed
up for a long time. Teachers, people that serve our country, I
(06:02):
mean they deserve to be a ploteda heck of a lot more than people
then grown men that throw around apigskin on Sundays that's made out of leather.
I mean it's it's kind of crazyhow much we're put on a pedestal.
I think there's a lot of moredeserving people, but definitely grateful for
it. Before we get into toomuch more here, Now that you are
in Minnesota, you already mentioned thatMall of America. You finally made it,
(06:23):
made it, ye made I didit. I did it. What
other very Minnesotan thing have you done? I mean, it's not like it's
too far off of your geographical map, but I mean, have you had
gulash? So I've done a fewreally cool things. I've been to Matt's
Bar and had a juicy lucy whichwas huge. Yes, and I don't
(06:43):
know even how to phrase this, but when I took that bite and that
whatever that substance was that flew throughmy mouth, I covered my home mouth.
I was delicious. Man, thatwas good stuff. And it's hot
molten nava, I don't know whatit was, and cheese sauce. It
was crazy. And then I've beento an apple orchard. Oh. I
went out to Afton Apple orchard andlike walked the orchard and got apples with
my wife and some homemade apple.Major dude, I was the one that
(07:06):
scheduled it. Man, that's mytype of stuff. Oh yeah, oh
yeah, I'm a goer man.I like pumpkin patches. I like pumpkin
lattes. I'm a big fall guy. I'm a big fall guy. You
think I'm a beer drinking, huntingguy with a dog, and I'm I'm
a pumpkin pie latte drinking pumpkin patchguy. Dude. You know that's what
I do. Bro. You know. The thing is is that I do
(07:27):
enjoy that, and we did thatwhen we had kids like that were really
little. Now they're old and they'recosts me more money. But but yeah,
I always think about that. Mywife's always like, well, we
should go to the pumpkin patch.I'm like, well, the people that
know the best pumpkins that work there, they've already picked those. Why are
we getting on a wagon right now? I don't understand apart we do the
same thing with Christmas tree. Ohyeah, oh are you a real Christmas
(07:49):
tree guy? Real Christmas tree guy? I want the little pine needles laying
all over the ground. Man,I want that good smell. I mean,
I can't wait for it. It'dbe great. But I have an
apartment now, so I'm a bigyou. I grew up in a town
eight hundred people, so I hada small farmhouse, and then in my
time in Denver, I had ahome. And this is my first time
in an apartment because I got hereso abruptly. So it's gonna be a
(08:09):
little bit of a change, butit'll be all right. I know.
I was looking at Wiggans where it'soutside of Denver. You're not too far
hour hour Yeah, but yeah,I was like, I was trying to
like pull out the map, pullout the map, like what cool thing
is he by? Not much? No, yeah, I know, not
much. That's a herod part ofColorada. It's a lot like western Kansas
(08:30):
for sure. Yeah. It's closeto Nebraska, Denver and on, like
the real Colorado. They don't reallycount us a part of Colorado. You're
not part of any kind of cutit off after the mountains. What brought
you there? I mean, Imean, honestly, you again, we
were talking about where you're born andthen all of a sudden you end up
in Wigans. My parents were bothraised in Colorado. They went to school
(08:52):
up in the mountains, and asthey got married to the young age about
eighteen years old and started having kids. They started heading down on back east.
My dad was also had also livedin Kentucky at one point, so
they headed back east. And theyliterally said, there were two kids trying
to find something a little bit smallerand a little bit cheaper, because you
get out there in the planes andit gets cheaper. And the first town
(09:13):
they came through, which is thegateway to the planes, is Wiggins,
Colorado, And it was nineteen ninetyeight and Wiggins High School had just won
football state championship. Mind you,we haven't won since, so they fooled
us, and they had just didn'tdone really good on some grade testing or
something, but they just felt likeit was a good place to set up.
My dad traveled a lot through theairport. It was only forty five
minutes away, and that's where theydecided to call home. That's such a
(09:35):
small town. Was that eleven oneleven or is that a night? It
was eleven on eleven. But inColorado they based the classification. It's there's
six man, eight man, andthen there's eleven man. There's one A
through five A for eleven man. They don't do it based off who's on
your football team. So we hadsixteen guys on our football team. But
with the amount of kids we hadin our school, we were still a
(09:56):
one A program. So there weresix A teams that had the same amount
of guys on their teams that wedid, but they had so much less
in their school. So I alwaystold my dad, because he was our
head coach, and my dad's verygrab you by your face mask, make
you run gas ers old school.I said, dude, you were running
guys out of here to the pointwhere we have sixteen guys on an eleven
man team. So it made ithard, but it was fun. So
(10:16):
then obviously you had to play defensethen as well. So when you got
to that point where you're like,do I want to play guard or do
I want to play I'm guessing DT. I was a defensive tackle and middle
linebacker in one A football. Yeah. I was also the gunner on front.
Yeah. I was the gunner onpunt and kick return and kickoff and
(10:39):
dude, you do everything, man. I was doing every single position.
I kicked extra points and I evenplay a little bit of quarterback. I
was mainly an offensive linement. Soyeah, I mean it was different,
very very small town Field. Oh, if you were a gunner, I
mean I played very minimal in highschool, but I was returned to kick
return, I would be absolutely yes, see my hands. No, No,
(11:00):
it's a fair catch, no matterwhat. There's some highlights on YouTube.
You have to go check out budOh it's really good. Yeah'll be
on Kickoff just sprinting down there six' five for indering twenty pounds against one
a kids. Man, it wasbad. It was bad. You talked
about that the next Man Up thing, and then you end up here in
Minnesota. And obviously the biggest storylinethat could be with this week, especially
(11:26):
is Josh Dopps and Joshua Dobbs comesin and this is a guy who doesn't
even know your name. Yeah, yeah, and in that experience, what
was that like? And also Iwant you to dive in a little bit
about Garrett Bradbury and the role thathe played in helping Josh Dopps in that
(11:46):
second half especially. Yeah, thestory with Josh is incredible. I got
here in early September and I thoughtI was rushed into it to starting to
play and start three weeks into it, right, I mean, this guy's
been here three days. He doesn'teven have his bad unpacked. And here
he is getting put in a game, having to lead us down the field
to beat the Atlanta Falcons. Andone thing I said to Day in an
interview is the poise that that manhad and the composure that he needed to
(12:11):
have in a game like that forus to win was incredible. I mean,
my hat goes off to him.For a guy being in the league
for six or seven years, youwould have thought he'd been in the league
fifteen years. The way he handledthat huddle and the way that you know,
when he first got in and wehad a strip sack, we had
an interception, it kind of starteda little bit rough. The way he
was acting then is the same wayhe acted when he won the football game
for us. So I get myhat off to that guy. The way
(12:33):
Jarrett Bradbury plays ever since I've beenhere. He's the leader of that offensive
line. He commands the huddle,he commands the plays. Garrisone a tremendous
job, and that center role ishuge, especially when you get a new
quarterback in there. The cadence isdifferent. Everything's different. We have gotten
no reps with this guy. Thisguy's looking at his wristband in the huddle
trying to name plays. You couldtell he had no clue what that play
even meant. You're like, you'relooking at each other as an offensive line.
(12:56):
You're like, oh boy, lockin boys, here we go.
And on top up of it,you know, Garret's trying to snap the
ball. This guy, he's nevereven snapped it to him. We've never
set for and we don't know wherehe's gonna set up. And what an
amazing day, what a core memorybeating the Falcons in exciting fashion like that
will be We all saw on thesidelines. You guys are sitting there like
literally circled around him as he's takingsnaps from Garrett, and you're all like
(13:20):
leaning in, going what's he saying? What's the cadence? Those are the
first time we ever heard the guygive a snap count. We had no
idea and we were literally teaching him, like dude, there was a lot
going on. Man, Yeah, that is so awesome. Here's the other
question I have for you, andthis is just you know, in house
here at the American Legion as we'redoing Salute to service and we're in Rosemont
with Miller Lyte, how do youtell his emotions because Dobbs has no eyebrows,
(13:50):
so you can't tell if he's excitedor frowning. For you, how
do you how do you determine whatkind of mood he's in? He does
a great job. Man. Joshhas always been so smiley ever since he
showed up. He's so kind. The dude is constantly He showed up to
our offensive line dinner last night, was hanging out with us. I mean,
he shows his emotion, but atthe same time, he's so even
(14:11):
Keel, which I mentioned from thegame that you love. I mean,
you love even Keel quarterback. Ifyou've got a guy that's emotional, it
gets rough. But he does agood job. He expresses it. Have
you embraced his nickname the Pastronaut?I love the Pastornat. I think it's
a I think it's a great Ithink it's a great way to go people.
I'm in the locker room every dayand I hear people ask him questions
like like, so, wait, are you are you gonna go to the
(14:33):
moon or are you gonna get ona rocket like he's been. He's been
answering questions all week for guy.But I mean he's smarter than all of
us. He is. Yeah, very intelligent, Yeah, very intelligent,
which is absolutely awesome. Again, ladies and gentlemen, we have Dalton Reisner
hanging out with us here number sixtysix, and you yourself, you gotta
you get thrown into this thing andat some point you're like, I don't
(14:56):
know if I'm gonna be going inat right guard, I'm gonna left.
What am I gonna do? CoachCoop? Who you played with, Chris
Cooper, which this is an insidestory as well. My brother actually coached
Coop at und So it's always somuch fun to see how well he's doing
in this whole thing, and youplay with him in Denver. But all
(15:16):
of a sudden, here we go. We you're in and you're sitting there
next to Darris on Bradberry. Youknow, I've been I've been wanting to
come to Minnesota for a while. If anyone remembers, I came here on
a visit, I think it wasAugust one and they didn't end up,
we didn't up coming to terms onanything. So I've wanted to be in
Minnesota for a while. And whenthey made that call on September eighteenth,
(15:37):
I said, man, like Iwant to come here and help this team
win. I didn't come here tosit on the sidelines. I didn't come
here to just collect the check andwatch these guys play. I mean,
in my four years in Denver,I had never been suited up watching anyone
else play. I mean, Imissed four games in my career, so
I missed four this year. AndI tell my wife, I'm like,
I never want to watch another footballgame again. Like I want to be
(15:58):
in here playing this game. Soit feels really good. I'm grateful,
I'm blessed for the opportunity, gratefulto be back at left guard. And
I'm three and O's a Viking,so it feels pretty good. Nice,
nice three and O. I lovethat. All right, So let's just
do a stupid question just for funsies. Have you ever had snake before?
(16:22):
Like eight snake? The only snakeI've eaten is rattlesnake. And like I
said, yeah, I'm from avery small town. So in high school
being my boys whenever, I livedon a ranch with one hundred acres and
we have a lot of pasture, and when we run across a rattlesnake,
you know, rule is when youhave cattle and horses, always kill that
rattlesnake. Right, So we cutoff the head. We buried it.
(16:42):
You know why you got to burythe head because they can still bite twenty
four hours after you cut it off. Four hours. Oh yeah, yeah,
don't let that thing set out.You got to cut that thing off
and bury it because it'll bite you. And you know, we may or
may not have had a few youknow, yeah, we may or may
not have had a few lights. And we decided to cook up the rest
of the snake and eat it isgood. You gotta fry. It was
(17:06):
awful. I think we I thinkwe lied to each other and said it
was good covered in barbecue sauce. But I want to do whatever again because
I just saw this at the They'rethey're coming out with a rattlesnake. Or
it mightn't be rattlesteak. It's justsnake pizza and it's first gonna be uh
in Japan only, but it's pizzaHut. It's coming out with no kidden
(17:27):
snake pizza. Wow. Yeah,I couldn't do it. I couldn't.
You know, when you have sausageand pepperoni and ham. Why would you
do snake all the goodness? Yeah? Okay, wait do you put pineapple?
No pineapple? No, that doesn'tbelong on people. I'd rather have
pineapple on there there. I wouldsneak, absolutely, I would. If
someone's like, okay, we'll justget half in half you you get the
(17:48):
cheese pizza, and I don't wantthe snake near my cheese. I got
out of him. That's absolutely disgusting. So outside of the of the rattle
sneak that you ate, what islike, you know, you see big
dudes and you're always assuming. Man, they're crushing a ton of food.
What is like your go to makesyou feel good, makes you almost won't
(18:12):
take a nap kind of food?Oh man, for all the kids out
there, I should really be saying, a good salad with grilled chicken and
broccoli and rice. But to bereal honest with you, it's a place
by the name of McDonald's and geta couple of mcdoubles, spicy mcchickens,
a couple of large fries, theblue Power raid, some cookies. Oh
(18:36):
that man, that's that's my napmeal for sure. Just got to stay
away from it, though, thatwas one meal. By the way,
that wasn't like, oh, we'regiving back to the people behind us,
pay it forward kind of help. That's mine. So how is Whitney enjoying
your wife being here in Minnesota. She's loving it, man. She's been
welcomed with open arms. People havebeen so kind to her. She'd us
(19:00):
her jewelry business. So she's beendoing pop ups and working hard. She
loves getting ready for game day, getting her little fit. She's got her
TikTok and her social media and she'sreally enjoyed it. Man, she's loving
it. I love that. Okay, let's just talk just briefly here before
we get a chance for some folksto get some photos here with Dalton Reisner,
by the way, is our guesshere, Yeah, big number sixty
(19:21):
six. So you got the Saintscoming up here, and anytime you say
the Saints in her room with Vikingsfans, yep, yeah, okay,
it's not two thousand and nine.Let it go, okay, all right,
don't let it go. All right, we got our Vikings cheerleaders that
are hanging out here with us aswell the American Legion. So you got
(19:45):
the Saints and that d line isthe matchup that you got going on there,
And now we're sitting here on aFriday. You've looked at tape.
You guys have a game plan.I'm not asking for game plan or anything
like that. Yeah, but whatthey do as far as putting on pressure,
especially in the pass game, Yeah, these guys are good. Yeah,
they got a really good front seven. These guys know how to push
(20:07):
the pocket. These guys know howto win at the point of attack,
win at the line of scrimmage.Cam Jordan there on the edge, Granderson
on the edge, to Mario Davisand the interior linebacker. I mean,
these guys attack. These guys doa really good job. They're they're like
one of the number one defenses Ithink against the run this season. Yes,
so you already know what we needto do, what we need to
do as an offensive line, whatthat game plan is, and we got
to go out there and establish thatand that's every week. That's no secret
(20:29):
offensive line. We want to runthe ball. When you run the ball,
you established playaffs and you establish otherpasses downfield, and that's our goals
offensive line and move move other grownmen from point A to point B against
their will, so got a greatfront taking them very seriously. These are
some grown dudes that want to comeafter our quarterback and our running backs,
and we'll see who's up for thetest on Sunday. Dalton Riser, by
the way, named after John Daltonfrom of Course Roadhouse, and I love
(20:56):
it you caught it here first becausethat that, yeah, Dalton was a
badass, and so yeah, hewould fight his way out of a bar
and the whole works. Here's thelast question I'm gonna ask you, and
it's just kind of a dumb questionjust because I recognize stupid things because I'm
a radio guy and that otherwise Iwould have a real job. How long
(21:17):
does it take you to get yourhand gear all ready to go? Because
if you watch the tape and thegloves and then more tape and all that,
how long does that take to getthat all geared up? It takes
a while. I'd say probably thirtyminutes. I mean, offensive, lineman,
you're hitting other grown dudes every singleplay, and I have thumb casts,
I have wrist casts, I havebuddy tape to go on my fingers
(21:41):
and then gloves to go over allthat, and the more you bundle up.
The more you're gonna the better you'regonna feel after the game. So
that takes us a while. Alot of guys do it, that's for
sure. Okay, here's the otherquestion I have follow up on that.
What happens when you get all tapedout, you get it all bundled up,
you get it everything ready to go, and then you go, I
gotta pee, dude, It's notgood. There's been times where I've forgotten
(22:03):
to put my jersey on, likeand I have to have other other equipment
guys put the jersey on for mebecause I mean, my fingers look like
this and they're taped up and Ican only like do this with my fingers,
and it's it's not fun. Man. I will not say anyone's helped
me pee yet in my career, but I will also be honest and say
that sometimes when it's game day andsomething's gotta happen in the first quarter,
(22:26):
third quarter and there's not a bathroomaround, a man's got to do what
a man's gotta do. Yeah.Yeah, otherwise you're going Nascar. Yeah,
we got too many more laps.I'm just gonna let her fly.
Yeah, it is what it isman. Sometimes you gotta do what you
gotta do. Don't rise there,Ladies and gentlemen here salute the service with
Miller like kfan K one O twothe Vikings Radio Network. We thank you
(22:48):
guys all so much for coming out. We got tickets that we're gonna give
away. Also, will you takesome photos with people? I will take
some photos with people, of course, that would be absolutely sweet. Thank
you again, buddy, It's niceto me. Thank you guys so much.
God bless you guys. School GoVikings
