Speaker 1 (00:09):
This is in the Locker Room, presented by Ford and
brought to you by acro Shure, the official insurance and
cybersecurity partner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, by bet MGM, Huntington Bank, PNC, PEPSI,
and by FedEx. Where now meets next? Now here's Craig
Wilfley and Max Starks.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Wilson gets a snap lost right corner of the end
zone and it is hauled in by Pickin's touchdown.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaker 4 (00:40):
All right, it is power hour inside the locker room.
Now that's all right, Optimus. You could come on back.
We don't play till Monday night. I know you gotta
hit out the West coast like I am. Huh, just
lead the way, Bud, But no, I mean thinking about
last night and of course that that play right there,

(01:02):
the first wide receiver touchdown of the season was by surprise, surprise,
you know, George Pickens, right, yes, but it was a
beautiful back shoulder fade on Sauce. Gardener supposed to be
one of the top, you know, cover corners in this league,
and George Pickens just made light work of him in

(01:24):
that moment. And you know what, during the break you know,
we were looking at those clips and I was like, man,
but that that first one that was thrown to the left.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Side of the end zone.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
So we're going in the closed end of the end
zone right of the stadium, and the first throw was
thrown to that left side, and it was one of those.
It was ISO coverage. Sauce had his hands out. I
thought it was going to be a p I honestly,
because he never turned his head around and he had
George's like hand pinned underneath him, rappling with him. And

(01:58):
he still made the catch, but he just ran out
of real estate and the foot stepped out. But I
was telling Wes how after he made the play, like
him and Sauce were going at it all night, right right,
And on that play, he was yelling at Sauce like, look,
I still got the ball with one hand.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
I look at you. He's like yelling. He's like, man,
I don't care. It didn't cant. He's like, but I
still cut the ball. You can't guard me. And it
was like it was the jaw jackie back and forth.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
So then the very next play, I moved to the
back middle of the end zone and I'm like, oh, yeah,
I see what they did because they ran a bunch
to the right and George was on the inside inside
of that bunch. I was like, oh, they're going to
iso this for George, but get the two rubs for
him to cut out and back shoulder fade Sauce couldn't
get in.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
Then Sauce came.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
Up injured after was trying to defend him and he
was sitting there for a minute check it out his knee.
I was like, oh man, yeah, this was and so
you just you felt that momentum. And like I said,
you know, nothing against Justin. Like Justin did tremendous while
he was in, Like he did things, and him and
Russell are different French skill sets in there, right, you

(03:02):
see the tried, true veteran that that throws the ball
deep pinpoint accuracy. And Justin has the athleticism. You know,
he can get out of a sack, he can make
something out of nothing. So they both compliment each other
with their skill sets. But it was just something different
last night when Russ got warmed up, when the oven

(03:24):
got preheated for the guy who likes to cook, you know,
it just it felt different. The energy in the stadium
felt different. And for George to finally get his touchdown
seven weeks into the season, right, I mean, that's a
huge accomplishment. And you know, I was just excited because,
like you said, George gets a hundred yards receiving again.

(03:45):
I mean, he made some circus catches in the process,
and it was good to see him rewarded with an
end zone opportunity and him get it because I think,
I think that's what you play to work hard.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
You want to get paid off for your hard work.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
And I even saw justin Van and Come those guys
were blocking down field in the run game too, So
I mean those guys especial.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Showing the second half because second half, here's the thing
about it, with Russ just attempting some of those deep
balls that back, yeah, back end off, and all of
a sudden you got in the second half, it's Najee
Harris knocking off seventy five yards.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Yeah, you know of his one hundred and two yeah,
you know.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
And that's exactly one of the things that you hope
to be able to do is to create more running
space up front and that front end by backing off
some people and giving the opportunity, you know, for him
to be able to launch into some and when was
the last time we saw all these twenty yard plus
runs by.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Not all oh man.

Speaker 4 (04:40):
Yeah, he's got what five on the season or at
least yeah, at least five. And it's just it was
great because also, Wolf, you saw what a balanced offense
can look like. We said, this was the first time
you really saw what the Arthur Smith offense is supposed
to be.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
Right.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
It's physical, it's wearing you right, and then the shots
down field. We're gonna make you pay if you go
into single high coverage. And we saw it. I mean
the Calvin Austin play as well. In that game. Calvin
seems to always sneak in like a thirty yard completion.
You know, everyone somewhere you just keep forgetting about him,
and then all of a sudden, booms the thirty six yards.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
You're like, oh god, he's on the team too. It's
like you gotta forget. But just don't drop the ball, man,
don't drop the cow.

Speaker 5 (05:24):
You had it.

Speaker 4 (05:25):
You had it hit both your hands, your chest and
the helmet before it went out oh man.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
And we were like, we were bemoaning it. But you know,
the young man is just you root for him. You
just root for this guy. He's got a load of
talent and your special team see oh yeah, especially his
return capabilities. You know what, when they went punt safe
and he didn't fair catch it because everybody fair catch
is a punt safe, they leave the defense out there,
you know, and none of the defensive guys are really

(05:52):
I'm gonna block, you know. Yeah, and he and he
returned it. They got like just under ten yards or something.

Speaker 6 (05:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
I was about to say, yeah, hey, no fear he
will hurt you if you give him an opportunity because
it was a short field, right, a short field kick,
And he was like, no, I'm gonna take it. He's like,
if you guys want to want to send offensive lineman
out there.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
Let me ask you. All right now this is on
my game balls.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Okay, we're going to gas, all right, Russe Wilson, I
give one George Pickens and my third one offensively, I
want to give one to Ryan McCollum.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
You know why. There we go.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
He stepped in there, and you know, one for the
fat guys up front.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Gum it one.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
First start, that's the right, first prime time first start
in primetime for the Steelers here, and what a job.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
You know.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
I didn't see any miss snaps. I didn't see any
shot one over one exchange. And I'll tell you one
time I saw him throw Javon Kinlaw on his back
and I went, that was very Morgantown Maller.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Like exactly or Aggie like, because you know we can go.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
Yeah, you know, you're exactly correct. I have my son
in law that was a baseball pitcher in All American
at Texas A and M.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
So I wear an A and M shirt.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
You know.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
There there we go, look at that you're already rooting for.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
And Dan Moore absolutely you know him because of my
my son in law.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
He's a big aggy guy.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
Yeah you know, and well rightfully so he got my
daughter that man, I got it.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
I got an aggy T shirt. There you go.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
Look at you, look at you, and you're not agg evated.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
You're doing all right. So give me your give me
your offensive game ball. All right, offensive game balls.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
I concur with what you said with giving Russ Wilson
first start as a Steeler to have the game.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
They had two.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
Passing touchdowns a rushing touchdown to boot in this game.
I mean and you realize that that right there would
have won us the game. But no, no, no, there
is more, ladies, gentlemen. I am going to give one
to Van Jefferson for his first touchdown as a Steeler
against his dad, who's the wide receivers coach for the Jets.

(08:07):
Across the way he went to the fifty. He was
looking where to give it because he was going to
give his dad the ball. Couldn't find him, so he
ended up coming back to the sidelines. But to have
that moment and Missy talked about it last night, which
was a great Which was a great nugget his dad
when he played for the San Diego charges of the
wide receiver his first touchdown ever was in Pittsburgh.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
What year was that because nineteen ninety one.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
Okay, so that was I was in Minnesota at that time. Yeah,
I just remember Sean Jefferson. What an excellent what a
great player he was.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
Yeah, so yeah, so I got to give one Devanage,
ok I gotta give one.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
And he also had.

Speaker 4 (08:43):
One of the key blocks that sprung nause on that
big playout to the left. Got it, yes, So he
actually came and cracked on the on the Phil safety Okay.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
So yeah, so that's my second one and then last one.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
I've got to give it to Alignment and I've got
to give it to my boy.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
Dan Moore blind Side strong Side.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
I mean, like you said, you talked to you talked
about the Bavarian pretzel play. But he had a couple
of crack blocks in the game, my gosh around the
corner and freed the hole. I mean he did one
for for the for the Jalen play where he kind
of wiggle for like twelve yards.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
He had.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
He had some solid you know, some solid plays Michael Clemens.
I mean he did a good job on him for
the most part. You think about this. Russell got hit
five times in the game, Uh gave they gave it
one sack that Will McDonald went off the edge on Broderick,
but that was it.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
Yeah, there were no thundersacks. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (09:39):
Hey Aron, Hey, Aaron got hit eight times and also
got sacked. So our offensive line did a better job
than theirs. Plus the run game, I mean getting you know,
and I talked about it and I kind of had
this conversation. I forgot who was talking to last night,
but they were like, oh, well, you know, now as
you could have taken a knee at the one yard

(09:59):
line of the the game ran, the clock count stayed
on the field.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
I was like, no, you're that close. Take it game.

Speaker 4 (10:07):
It wasn't like they were gonna get one possession, Like
you didn't do that to have the go ahead run
and possibly give them the ball back with plenty of
time and they could go down score and tie the game.
The game was already done. And honestly, for an offensive line,
that's our accolade. That's that is what rushing yards and
rushing touchdowns are our accolades.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
Absolutely, So it's like, don't you steal our glory.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
He's running. He's running for six right now. You're talking
about what a woman's pregnant, right she's even for two.
He's running for six. He's running for all five as.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
Well as himself.

Speaker 4 (10:38):
That is that is our stat That is our stat
that actually applies to us and our physicality. So don't
take that away. No, we had two rushing touchdowns on
the game. Thank you, go get your one hundred yards,
but allow us to, you know, to take a little
piece of that pie too.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
We helped get you there to that.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
Hundred yards, especially if it's pie because you know I
love pie.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
Your cherry or apple? Which?

Speaker 2 (11:00):
Oh man, cherry cherry. That's right, cherry cherry of my
mother in law. She makes the best cherry pie going. Baby,
let me tell you something. You know, for my birthday
she gets she bakes me my own pie.

Speaker 6 (11:12):
Oh.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
And then then you know, the kids are trying to hit.

Speaker 4 (11:15):
On and I say, you get like the vultures start
to start.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
Hey dad, how are you doing? Are you going to
cut that pie?

Speaker 6 (11:21):
Then?

Speaker 3 (11:22):
Are you cutting it?

Speaker 7 (11:22):
At?

Speaker 4 (11:22):
You know what I would really like? So I've been
thinking about cherry for the last couple of days. I
would love to have a piece of that. If you
don't mind, sir, I'll go clean my room.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
They offer, yeah, time they offer when food is present.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Oh, you ain't kidding, all right, So we got that.
Now let's go to the defensive side. I'll beanie. Bishop
is my first one, obviously.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
I mean, hey, he got a Sunday night football game. Balls.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
Oh yeah, I saw because after I did my hit
and I'm walking up the stairs, Mikayle is stayed at
the top of the stairs.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Let's go, Beaty. The team's waiting.

Speaker 4 (11:55):
Because he got interviewed and pulled to the desk, right,
but you know, Mike t has to do his breakdown,
so just like running up the steps with it with
his football and hand. I'm like, what is it he
showed me? It was a Sunday night football game ball.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
Wow? So you got three?

Speaker 4 (12:08):
Yeah, a trifecta, a trifecta of game bullage.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
But let me yeah, but let me tell you something.
Nothing the Sunday night football is nice. Nothing compared to
getting a Rogers ball. Oh yeah, hey, you know it
would be better than one. Two You're not kidding, man, Yeah,
two of them indeed, but certainly I think. All right,
so we got Beanie Bishop. I'm giving my second one
to Larry Ogin joby. Oh my generation. I love that term.

Speaker 5 (12:37):
You know.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
I see you're you're in a cultured fan all right,
So you got it. You got a little sacuration going on.
It was a fine job of beating up Elijah Vera
Tucker to get come off and get that sack, and
Larry dead guming you go ahead and throw those backs
down like that, man, don't worry about that was a
BS card. I was standing right there when he did it,
and I'm like, I couldn't even make out the whistle

(12:58):
and then what transpired after that, all the other hits
on our guys, the hit on NASEI, the hit on Jalen.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
I was like, I wonder where that. Oh yeah, And
I'm like, and no flags, no flag? I mean they
fought eighteen guys the entire night. Yep, the team did,
because there's seven referees on the field, so I'm counting
them into the eleven. But it was just it was
frustrating to watch, like just how skewed it was. And

(13:28):
once again, should we be surprised? I mean because I
go back to my time playing. I mean, there was
always a thing where they were looking for any reason
to blame a Steelers player for something that they were
too rough. You were too you did you didn't provide
a pillow when you hit the guy, You didn't ask
him how he felt, you didn't give him a warm glass. Yeah,

(13:49):
there was zero permission. You just took it and you
just got a TfL. And it was just frustrating. But
you're right, Larry played through that and was just physical
at point the whole night, yep.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
And I you know, I love that game.

Speaker 4 (14:04):
Ball for him because yeah, he did the yeoman's work
and he and he got he got, he got the
Rogers pelt last night.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
He did, indeed, And then I would give my last
game ball to Danny Smith. You know, it's the third
first game, Wes. What was this the first game since
twenty seventeen with three No, I'm sorry, three games in
a row.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
We've had a block. That's it, all right.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
I mean Danny Smith is just the cultivator of double thumpers,
you know.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
I mean, he just really does a great job with that.
Man rays immediately absolutely.

Speaker 4 (14:34):
Yeah, give him more bubblegum, I mean, because he definitely
needs his own double bubble sponsorship.

Speaker 3 (14:39):
How does he not do coffee?

Speaker 4 (14:41):
I think because he doesn't have any more space in
his mouth because of all the gummy's got.

Speaker 3 (14:44):
That's true.

Speaker 4 (14:45):
Yeah, he's got like twenty five He's got twenty five
pieces of it.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (14:48):
Yeah, he had the ivy straight in the vease. He
doesn't have any available sipping space.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
Right exactly? That is that bazooka joe stuff. Man, he
must have like jaws of steel.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
Oh yeah, yeah, he just he does not need to
do any neck or or jo jow strengthening drills. He's
strong enough. He's like, no, I just chew an extra
piece of bubble gum. I got what's the record, twenty three?
I'm going twenty four today.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
I wonder, you know, we should talk to his mom
if he was I wonder if when he was a
baby he was a bitter, had to be, had to be.
You know, those those silent little bitters, you know.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
I got one. I got one.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
It's my youngest daughter's Quincy Ah Quincy winning that when
she gets mad, she'll just bite you. I was like, Quinny, Quinny, sweetie,
you can't bite that. But the good thing is she
doesn't bite at school. Good when she gets upset with
her sister, Oh yeah, she's she'll bite her sister.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
She's mad at us.

Speaker 4 (15:40):
She'll just she'll just bite me right in the forearm.
I'm like, this is not a turkey leg from the
state fair, sweetie. I know daddy's arm is meaty, but don't,
please don't. And then my wife on the shoulder one time,
what are you doing? He's like, and then you know
the bite's coming. When you say you see that, it's like, okay,
she she's she's going she's gone red. All she sees

(16:02):
is red right now.

Speaker 3 (16:03):
Well, do you agree Danny Smith absolutely.

Speaker 4 (16:06):
Capsul if we're talking about the specialties and that minca
elevation bs crap.

Speaker 3 (16:11):
I was like, when what are you looking at?

Speaker 2 (16:13):
Man?

Speaker 4 (16:14):
When Dean Lowry got that second block right, I yelled
karma at the referee. It was not It was not
my finest. That's why I had to ask. I'm like,
I'm like, uh, will I get in trouble? Will the
team get fined?

Speaker 3 (16:27):
If I if? I'm you got to be careful.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
But I remember there there is There was an instance
when I was on the sidelines years ago. I said
it wasn't me, it was another team and the sideline
guy got I don't know whether he got removed from
the sidelines or whether there was There couldn't have been
a penalty, I don't believe. But somehow the sideline guy
got involved in saying something at the referee that created

(16:51):
created a problem.

Speaker 3 (16:52):
You have to watch I stand in a group and
I yell it off.

Speaker 4 (16:56):
I'm looking at him and then you duck down. But
but then but then I'm like yelling it towards the field.
I'm like, no, I'm yelling at the blade of grass.
It was karma at the grass. I would have played
it off. Oh man, this this this camera guy, he's
just unruly. I don't know what to tell you, guys. Man, No,
I wouldn't do that our field photography, guys, I wouldn't

(17:16):
do I love them all, but but yeah, I was
just like, I was just like karma, you know, because
they tried everything in their power to take away that
great play by Minca, because Minca shot the gap perfectly
on the edge and as he jumped through, you know,
just like just like a ski jump, right, you know,
with the poles, he kind of.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
And you swing your arms down when you're jumping.

Speaker 4 (17:41):
I have never seen anybody that has ever done a
standing broad jump and not swung their arms. Tried tried
jumping forward without swinging your arms.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
It doesn't work. It doesn't work.

Speaker 4 (17:51):
And the guy was like he was doing the press
down motion as though he elevated over him. He didn't
elevate over the guy, like I'm watching the blade. Then
it's on the screen.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
MinC is yelling at the guy like you didn't see
the screen.

Speaker 4 (18:02):
The dude wouldn't look at the screen because he knew
he was wrong, and so it was just frustrating in
that moment. But you know, but like you said, karma
came around and it was undeniable. Dean Lowry put that
paw up and just absolutely whipped it that. Yeah, and
I just think, you know, that's one of the things
you have to have a great Special Teams coach to

(18:22):
be able to generate that type of fervor because Special
Teams is want to right, it has to you have
to be willing able and fully committed to it to
be able to be really good at it. And Danny
Smith knows how to incite that right, that right synapse,
that right part of the DNA and activate it, you know,

(18:43):
as though he's some type of mad scientists in a
lab and he knows how to get that crazy gene out.
And and that this team has consistently proven on Special
Teams that they can get the job done.

Speaker 3 (18:55):
I mean most what most blocked kicks since two and
nineteen I believe nine. So that's ridiculous.

Speaker 4 (19:04):
Yeah, that's a ridiculous amount, especially when you think of
how Special Teams is such a pedestrian play now, right,
you know you think I mean they tried to, Oh,
we're going to make the extra point a little bit
more challenging by moving it back.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
But these kickers can kick from sixty yards now.

Speaker 4 (19:16):
Yeah, So it's like, okay, so when you get those
moments where something pedestrian and something spectacular happens out of
that pedestrian moment, it's especially thing. So no, I completely
agree Danny Smith deserves that. And you know what, I'm
just I'm gonna give one to Dean Lowry for putting
up the pall.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (19:31):
Absolutely, he gets it because he actually physically carried that out.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
All right, you know what? Yeah, yeah, I think the
break because you know why, there's donuts there. Brother, we
got to break some donuts. We got we got to
break donuts.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
But more importantly, we're going to open up these phone
lines for the fans out there. We want to hear
your game balls for this game on a victory Monday.
Here inside the locker room. The number is four one
team one three one.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
Six has a bowling ball.

Speaker 4 (19:59):
And on top of that, I'm pretty sure the guys
who call already have it on speed down. So we're
just saying it for any new callers, but we always
welcome our favorites. We'll be back with more here inside
the locker room on the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
This is in the locker room, presented by Ford and
brought to you by acro Sure, the official insurance and
cybersecurity partner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, by Bett MGM, Huntington Bank, PNC, PEPSI,
and by Betex. Where now meets next? Now here's Craig
Wilfley and Max Stark's.

Speaker 4 (20:52):
All right back inside the locker room here, and we
have the phone lines lit up.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
It is time to go. And the first one, just like.

Speaker 4 (21:00):
I talked about optimists, to start the start the power hour,
We're going to Melvin in the semi Melvin, how are
we doing this morning on this victory Monday?

Speaker 7 (21:11):
Come?

Speaker 5 (21:13):
Yes, right in the.

Speaker 6 (21:16):
Road man, We're doing there. Man, Hey, I got I
got two things for you guys do morning. First of all,
helped the guys are doing well after.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
A great game last night. We're doing awesome.

Speaker 6 (21:28):
We are.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
There's nothing like a victory donut Monday, Yes, and donuts.

Speaker 8 (21:33):
Hey, hey, wilcom.

Speaker 6 (21:34):
Next, I got I gotta sign up for you'll please me?

Speaker 3 (21:37):
Okay?

Speaker 5 (21:38):
Max?

Speaker 3 (21:38):
What is it?

Speaker 6 (21:39):
Max?

Speaker 5 (21:40):
Well you remember this?

Speaker 6 (21:42):
Can you talk to our offensive line? I got my
first game off.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
Going to them there. Can you remind them about the.

Speaker 6 (21:48):
Five hundred clubs. Remember the five hundred club?

Speaker 3 (21:52):
Five hundred club? What was that?

Speaker 6 (21:54):
Oh? Man, that's that's when back in your day, most
when when all offensive lineman with bench bussing.

Speaker 3 (22:03):
Yeah, I'm sitting there thinking, what what am I missing here?
I don't I don't get it. Okay, yeah, I remember.

Speaker 6 (22:12):
You forgot about it.

Speaker 3 (22:14):
I did. Well, man, that was about forty some years ago.

Speaker 6 (22:18):
That's little bit tell them my age a little bit.
But I was hoping maybe you guys that each give
the offensive line guys just a tip from your path
to help make them a little bit better. They're doing good,
but there they're making progress. They're making the little bit

(22:38):
you could share with them that would help them just
take it to the next low.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
You know, the thing that you always got to be
careful is not overstepping your bounds. You know, these are
young men that I love, these guys, you know, I
root for them. I can't help it, you know, and
we'll you know, we talk about their their their success
and some of the failures, as you need to do.
But you know the thing about it is, especially with
offensive linement's about encouraging each other. You know, that's what

(23:06):
the big thing in the room is guys encouraging each
other through their play, through their words, and the way
they go and conduct their business. That's what it's about.
Being an offensive linement. It's a group effort, Yeah it is.

Speaker 4 (23:17):
And you know, I do get to talk to some
of the guys and I try, I try and impart
a little bit of wisdom with him. You know, I've
spoken with Dan Moore on a number of occasions. I've
spoken to Dan and Broderick as well, and you know,
like you said, I know how it was for me,
and even when Wolf was what was in my position,
you know, and I was in their position. You know,

(23:40):
I always just remember, you know, it was just like hey,
just subtle things, encouragement along the way, you know, just
a little it was a little tap on the head
like hey, you know, kind of just remember your why,
remember why you're here in this process. And sometimes that's
all you really need because these guys take a lot
of pride in their in their game and their craft,
and so so you don't want to change too much.

(24:01):
You don't want to feel like you're overloading them with information,
especially during a game, right, I mean, that's where it
can be. It can be a little daunting, but I
think you know, you're right. It's always good just to
give them a little affirmation here and there.

Speaker 6 (24:14):
You know.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
I always always look at Dan.

Speaker 4 (24:16):
He sits at the end of the bench, and you know,
I conveniently seem to want to go find and rifle
through the gatorades when he's down there, and just kind
of kind of getting his ear for a second, you know,
when things are rough or things you know, or things
are going well, and just kind of just give them
that little tiger Wood's fist bump, you know what I'm saying, Like, yeah,

(24:36):
you got it, man, you know, keep going, keep going,
forget about that last play, you know, all those kind
of little things because I know sometimes, you know, you
do want that affirmation, and so I think it's right.
I don't know they're gonna get to the five hundred card.
They have some really long arms, all those guys. You
have to be a little bit tight. I mean I
never got to the five hundred club. As close as
I got was four ninety five in college, and I

(24:58):
can tell you that was one that took every fiber
of my being to get to four ninety five. So
I was like, man, if they would have put five
more pounds in there.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
I don't know. I might might have broke both my elbows.

Speaker 6 (25:10):
Well, my game ball, like I said, goes to uh
the offensive line costa.

Speaker 3 (25:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (25:17):
Secondly, we're going to do one for coach Comin.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
Yeah, for this beating who he is.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
Yeah, black Black Air Force energy was alive and well
last night. By the way, Melvin, in case you were wondering,
he had the Black Air Force ones on.

Speaker 5 (25:32):
Oh yeah, I loved it.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
Yeah, exactly, got a pair.

Speaker 6 (25:35):
I got a pair of ordered there on the way.
I also want to give a shout out to our
defense man. They played great last night.

Speaker 4 (25:45):
Yeah, absolutely, no, No, I think all right, well perfect, well, Melvin,
I appreciate. I think it's all apropos, right. I mean,
the defense did the job. They're the ones that sparked
off everything that happened in the game. You're talking about
what twenty twenty four unanswered points? No, nor more than
that twenty if I do the math on that, Yeah,

(26:09):
exactly twenty four straight. So I mean you're absolutely right
pitching a shutout, and you know in that second half,
I mean they did such a tremendous job. So you're
right about that man, So I appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
Melvin. Be safe out there on the road, man, and
we're gonna keep it rolling here. Well, who we got
up there? Oh, of course our guy.

Speaker 4 (26:28):
You know you could have a silly sword, you could,
you could even have a talking sword. But we have
here inside the locker room a sarcastic sword. That's right sword.
How are we doing today.

Speaker 3 (26:39):
Bud doing?

Speaker 8 (26:41):
Real good, guys, real good.

Speaker 5 (26:43):
Thank you for that.

Speaker 9 (26:45):
Got a couple of notes out of the sheet here,
number one last week. If you remember, half of us
were saying should rush start or not? Or fields with
no animosity. It's just good, good, good good. And I
said that, And I'd like to get him out there,
not just because Russ is ready, but I'd like to
see if we have enough weapons for another quarterback to use.

(27:08):
Another view of the weapons we have. I'm getting tired
all year long about here, and we need another receiver
and going out looking for one.

Speaker 8 (27:17):
Let's see what we have here.

Speaker 9 (27:19):
And Russ, to his credit, who was the first pass
to I told you last week watch for the tight
ends to get more involved. First passes to Washington. I
think a career as being born. Guys, the way he
cut that one on the side, went forward, not out
of bonds, put the ball between both arms, put his

(27:39):
head down like he was a fullback at the goal line.

Speaker 8 (27:42):
I mean, that was really impressive. His athleticism and his size.

Speaker 9 (27:47):
I think what he had more catches than he had
all year already, and I think him in Farmouth when
little Wilson from Michigan gets healthy, the guys that are.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
On the field pick them.

Speaker 9 (28:00):
I mean, I think we have more than enough weapons
out there for a guy like Russ to use. With
that beautiful floating pass is I mean, it's accurate, but
it's soft. If there is such a thing, you wouldn't
have had them one hand receptions with Friarmouth and pick
them without that soft.

Speaker 8 (28:20):
Throw right where it should be to give them a
chance to get it.

Speaker 9 (28:24):
It's quite a difference than an arrow being thrown, but
very nice soft touch.

Speaker 8 (28:30):
So we'll see what kind of weapons we have.

Speaker 9 (28:33):
As far as the defense, I don't think you're going
to find a quarterback with a quicker release than Rogers
and the ability with his flick just a forearm almost
to get the ball down field like he does so
as good as I mean our rush, I don't think
you can do much better.

Speaker 8 (28:51):
I think that same rush will.

Speaker 9 (28:53):
Walk a lot better against any pedestrian quarterback out there.

Speaker 8 (28:57):
I think rogers had the orders to don't give them
any time to get to you. And for the most part, Boy,
he got rid of that ball so quick, no matter
how fast we rushed him. But I don't think you're
going to see that all the time.

Speaker 9 (29:10):
And the defense still pressured him to get rid of
it earlier than he wanted to some of the Aaron
throws that he threw. And last I'm almost out of breath,
my man, Beanie. I remember going back and reading when
he got picked.

Speaker 8 (29:24):
You know, he had a couple of paragraphs in the paper.
They were talking about him.

Speaker 9 (29:29):
And how he's got a chip on his shoulder and
how he's going to make this team and how he
can play in this league, and a lot of people
just shrugged him off. But once he's really healthy like
he is right now, at gui speed and athleticism for
his size is amazing. And just go back to the draft,
the prospect draft gradients, the way they graded them. He

(29:52):
had a five point sixty seven in the sentence, said
candidate for bottom of roster slash practice squad maybe that's
what the experts had to say about Beanie.

Speaker 8 (30:04):
Well, he looked a lot better than that last night.

Speaker 9 (30:08):
And I'll tell you, these guys were always being told
we're gonna go out and have fun.

Speaker 8 (30:15):
They actually looked like in that second half they were
having fun from one end of the field to the other.

Speaker 5 (30:21):
It was.

Speaker 8 (30:21):
It was a great evening to watch guys.

Speaker 6 (30:24):
You know.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
The thing I always think of was the late great
Chuck Noll, who I saw missus Knowle. She was there
at the alumni dinner. Yeah, on Saturday night. I was
so good to see her and and coach Nole's son Chris,
but they were in attendance, you know, And it makes
me think he goes remember when pregame speech and coaching says,
fellas go out and have fun because winning is fun,

(30:46):
and that was that's all he said. It was like going, Wow,
that was very short, but it was to the point
and just what you summarized their sword.

Speaker 4 (30:53):
Yeah, now it was excellent and I think you I
think you hit all of those points, very salient and
talking about all of those aspects, and like you said,
you know, I talked about it earlier. We have two
complimentary skill sets at the quarterback position. And you saw
the difference between those two styles. No, no right or wrong,
because listen, one got you to four and two and

(31:13):
the other one is at one to er right now.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
So both of them work. Both of them track well
with this team.

Speaker 4 (31:19):
But I think, you know, like you said, you're uncovering
more talent than I think we give this team credit
for what I should say.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
We already knew the talent on this team.

Speaker 4 (31:26):
I think for the national media public understanding that you know,
you want to tie us to every single free agent
wide receiver that's available. No, that's not that's not what
we need. I mean, you saw you saw the rust
off of DeVante Adams. You saw Brandon Ayuk got injured
yesterday in the game. You know, unfortunately you hope it's
not nothing too serious, but it's like going and trying

(31:47):
to chase those guys. We saw what chasing money looks like.
We saw it last night. That's what the Jets did, right.
They've spent a lot of money on this team and
they have not gotten the results of that. In fact,
they're going to the inverse of that. You know when
you look at it, so you know you have to
be able to exploit and utilize the skills of all
these guys.

Speaker 9 (32:04):
So so yeah, line them up, guys, go from top
to bottom, the receivers, the tight ends, in the backs,
Warren and Harris, all them weapons. With a quarterback that
sees all of them. He's just experienced enough to see
the whole field in every one of those guys in
a possible position to help them out.

Speaker 8 (32:26):
You know, that's a heck of a lot of talent.
I don't care when.

Speaker 9 (32:30):
Anyone says about another receiver. And that's what we wanted
to see, and I think we did got a glimpse
of it last night. And he's going to utilize everybody
like he should. But circle my man Washington, that guy
who wants.

Speaker 3 (32:44):
To top who that guy? Nobody?

Speaker 9 (32:49):
All right, guys, go out and look at this beautiful weather.
Open your eyes to the masterpieces.

Speaker 4 (32:55):
Absolutely absolutely, thanks or we appreciate you joining the lit
room all the time. All right, we're gonna take a
break real fast, and then we'll be back with more.
We got a couple more callers, so we're gonna have
rapid fire water cooler coming up in this final segment.
We come back with more inside the locker room, here
on the Steelers Audio Network.

Speaker 1 (33:26):
This is in the Locker Room, presented by Ford and
brought to you by acro Sure, the official insurance and
cybersecurity partner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, by Bett MGM, Huntington Bank, PNC, PEPSI,
and by FedEx. Where now meets next? Now here's Craig
Wilfley and Max Starks.

Speaker 3 (33:47):
All right, time for the bell leaf here.

Speaker 4 (33:52):
All right, we already know this early one morning system,
but we got rapid fire water cooler here coming right,
and so leave your gesticulation and your postulations to a
quick one. We're gonna get our last two callers before
we end this show. CR in Chicago. Uh, you are up,
my friend? How are we doing? CR?

Speaker 5 (34:07):
What's going on? My Stiller brothers and some mother mother?

Speaker 10 (34:10):
I'm feeling the Chicago Live Northeast and corner South North Carolina,
just north of Woman's in the home of our linebacker.

Speaker 5 (34:18):
Man. This is I'm so excited that I got it.
I've gotta talk because I can't. I'm too pumped up. Anyway,
It's just too many game balls.

Speaker 1 (34:26):
I mean, you just got to.

Speaker 5 (34:27):
Give everybody a game balls.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
The entire thing.

Speaker 5 (34:30):
Uh, the entire organization from the from the ball boys
all the way up to the guy in charge, mister Rooney.
Everybody did a wonderful job.

Speaker 7 (34:39):
Uh.

Speaker 10 (34:40):
I even want to recognize what coach Dungee's refer to
the seven fourth Steelers when they change quarterbacks in the middle.

Speaker 5 (34:46):
Of the season, and you see what happened with that team.
Not to say that this team can't do that, but hey,
we're just gonna have to wait and see.

Speaker 10 (34:53):
I want to also give a shout out to UH
to the wild Wild West and his West Virginia free agent,
a rookie Bishop.

Speaker 5 (35:01):
I thought he was outstanding. So I'm just so excited
about what happened.

Speaker 10 (35:06):
We got one more game for us to get out
there and do his thing, and then we're gonna have
a break, put everything together and get into that second half.
To start out with a I'm saying a six and
two record, and then to go into that second half
playing against our ass North rivals, it's gonna be off
the chain and I'm all in, I'm gonna stop in

(35:28):
the meantime and in between times.

Speaker 5 (35:31):
Here we go, here we Gorooh.

Speaker 4 (35:35):
I had to do that for Westboro Fast, all right,
appreciate to see our as always sr. We will open
the phone lines again. I promise we'll let you talk
a little bit more. But we gotta go down to
our boy. That's right, the one, the only flying will
Linda himself circus George and Sarasota.

Speaker 3 (35:49):
How are we doing, George?

Speaker 7 (35:51):
Hey, good morning from sunny Sarasota. Eighty two degrees, blue skies,
about white breeze and cool mornings.

Speaker 3 (35:57):
Ooh mind we have.

Speaker 7 (35:59):
My family was there for the game last night. My nephew,
Michael and his wife and two of his friends flew up.
They asked from conference in DC, so they made a
detour they were at the game, so they brought to
Modive and I was wearing get this wolf. I was
wearing my black Terry Bradshaw jersey for the game because well,
his last game was against the Jets, as you well know. Yes,

(36:20):
and maybe we can get a little bit of good
mogination there for the game.

Speaker 3 (36:23):
So game balls.

Speaker 7 (36:25):
I was tempted to give it to Nozy, but I'm
giving it to Russ because I think it was opened
up the defense so that they would be afraid of
his passing, so that not he had room to run.
That's my opinion on defense. You can't you can't not
give the ball to Beatie Bishop, the guy who's been
picked on all year by a closing quarterbacks finally made
them pay. And it was against a big name quarterback.

Speaker 3 (36:46):
And I ate that up.

Speaker 6 (36:49):
Ate that up like stuff after.

Speaker 3 (36:50):
The beating with sugar in it. No, it's all good
much like. Yeah, and then on.

Speaker 7 (36:56):
Special teams, I'm giving it to the lineman of blocks,
the Dean Lowry, because that was pivotal.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
That was huge.

Speaker 7 (37:03):
Yeah, it was right late long pick wasn't.

Speaker 4 (37:06):
Oh no, no, no, he's a vet we got We
picked him up from Green Bay. He'd been in Green
Bay for like seven years and he was in Minnesota
before that.

Speaker 3 (37:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (37:13):
Cool, okay, So I liked I liked the fact that
he was getting it was a big pause spatting that done.
So anyways, I don't want to eat up in your time.
I know you guys are done for the day, but
good to hear voices and ghost stealers. Man, I mean,
we're we're opening up some eyes and people are eating
a lot of pro today.

Speaker 3 (37:29):
Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Speaker 7 (37:31):
By the way, I was all for Russ Wilson. I
get to a consternation bought it. But you know what,
when Tuchek had a seven in a row back in
seventy six, we didn't say brash On used to sit
for him just because cru Check wants in a row.
Brash that went back in.

Speaker 2 (37:46):
Yeah, I knew Mike. Mike cru is a great guy.
He's the only guy, the only person I know that
lifted himself out of the NFL. He was a quarterback
with like nineteen inch inch arms, you know, Yeah, yeah,
a great guy.

Speaker 3 (38:01):
Great guy. Yeah. Well, hey you two, George.

Speaker 4 (38:05):
And of course it's good to hear that this sunshine
and blue sky's down there, especially knowing what happened very
very very short while ago with the hurricanes. So good
to hear everything's good down there. All right, Well that
is a show.

Speaker 3 (38:17):
We got through.

Speaker 4 (38:18):
Everybody got through it, got through the callers, and now
we can go, uh, continue to forge because there's still
about a half a dozen donuts left.

Speaker 3 (38:25):
We've earned it.

Speaker 4 (38:25):
It's a victory donut Monday here in the locker room.
We promise will save some from motes. Maybe for the
Steelers blitz guys, but no, he's Craig wolf Ley, Wesley
Huler on the ones and twos.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
I'm Max Starks. Of course CJ's in the back. I
don't know where he is.

Speaker 4 (38:39):
You know, it's like mom's a mom and the meat loaf,
you know what I'm saying. He's on Grimlins. You know,
he's leading ninjas. They got swords and stuff back there.
I don't ask questions.

Speaker 3 (38:47):
I just work here.

Speaker 4 (38:48):
And of course the since Brian La Martine for keeping
us on these airways every single day. Remember it's always
a great day on on Victory Monday, but go make
it even greater day today.

Speaker 3 (38:58):
