Today is Friday, which means more Good News stories from around the nation that the mainstream media doesn't report- After efforts to remove a statue of William Penn in Pennsylvania by the park service, people stand up and say no! Support for religious freedom is at an all time high.  In New York, a public school is set aside as a place to handle excess immigration. In California, the 9th circuit court of appeals shuts down efforts by city zoning to outlaw gas stoves.

Discover how the past informs our present as we delve into the intriguing intersection of faith, history, and the U.S. Constitution. We embark on a journey through America's rich heritage, facing the challenges of preserving it against the tide of modern cultural shifts. When the legacy of William Penn is under threat in Pennsylvania, we dissect the implications of erasing such monumental figures from our landscape and the crucial role of a biblical and constitutional perspective in these debates.

A beacon of hope shines through as we reveal the surge in support for religious freedom, as shown by a recent Beckett study. We uncover the burgeoning belief among Americans in the fundamental right to guide their children's education, based on religious convictions. With a groundswell backing religious freedom, we celebrate this awakening, emphasizing the indispensable part that religious institutions play in the fabric of our nation.

As the conversation takes a turn towards the contentious decision by New York City to repurpose James Madison High School in New York for immigrant housing, we raise hard-hitting questions about the implications for the community's youth and education. We shine a light on the importance of parental involvement in shaping their children's educational journey, particularly in an era where public education often intertwines with propaganda. Join us as we not only analyze these pressing issues but also offer empowering solutions, including our "Biblical Citizenship in Modern America," which equips you to become a torchbearer for the foundational values that have sculpted our great nation.

And today we're in fact goingto give you that perspective
with a lot of good news.
So it's Good News Friday.
Around here at WallBuilders, welove Fridays, getting a lot of
good news for you, David and Tim, have been compiling some of
these stories that the majormedia doesn't cover and that we

(02:05):
want to share with you today, togive you some encouragement, to
show you that the system workswhen we work it.
Principles of liberty are notdead, and it's time to get into
some of those good news stories.
David Barton is going to startus with the first piece of good
news, and I haven't done this ina while, so I'm going to guess
we're going to the courts inWisconsin.

David Barton (02:24):
I hope you don't spend much money gambling,
because you will lose a lot.
Kara will be, so picked at you.

Rick Green (02:30):
Wait let me guess again.
My guess is that we're notgoing to the courts, nor are we
gonna do a Good News FridayStory from Wisconsin.
Is that a smarter way to laythat bet out there?

David Barton (02:42):
Yeah, that's good, now you're about 95% right, so
you turned out to be wrong.

Rick Green (02:47):
You were right, well y'all just that y'all have so
much.
Y'all have so much good newsfrom so many places, it's
impossible to guess right.
It's just everywhere.
All right, man, where are wereally going?

David Barton (02:56):
Well, we're going to Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania
, we're going to Philadelphiaarea and Philadelphia.
Now Pennsylvania, go back,Pennsylvania is is one of the
early colonies founded byWilliam Penn back in 1681.
He helped create their frame ofgovernment etc.
But if you'll back up threeyears when we had all COVID
stuff going, and that's whenblack lives matter really took

(03:17):
off and became big across theNation, and despite all the
COVID shutdowns, it didn't shutdown the riots and didn't shut
down the burnings.
And so you see all thesestatues, dozens and scores of
statues being torn down, justtrying to wipe out the heritage
in the nation.
And that same spirit ofwokeness, the Biden
administration is moving forwardand and the the park service
decided they're going to takedown the statue of William Penn

(03:39):
there.
The founder of Pennsylvania, but they're going to take down
his statue because that's not avery welcome figure and you
really need a different view ofhistory then these, these
colonial guys who were sooppressive and not welcoming,
and and man, when I saw this Iwent through the room and, by
the way, when it was announcedby the, by administration, we
suddenly got contacted by allsorts of state legislators in

(04:02):
Pennsylvania saying what hey,can you guys help us, who are
some good attorneys we can geton this?
This is absolutely insane andit is just to back up.
William Penn was actually giventhe land of Pennsylvania by the
King, Charles II, becauseCharles II, old William Penn's
father, a really big debt anddidn't have the money to pay it.
So the King says hey, William,I'll give you all this land I

(04:23):
own over in that new placecalled America and that'll be
the way I pay your debt.
And so Penn gets tied over tothis land called Pennsylvania
and he gets over there and saysyou know that the king I mean
this is what Kings do he reallydon't know what he's talking
about.
It's private property.
The king doesn't own the land.
The native tribes own the landover here and I'm not going to
take the land just because theking said I had it.

(04:44):
So he comes to Pennsylvania andhe gets with the native tribes
and said hey guys, this is theland I would like to be able to
purchase as a colony, as a placefor religious liberty, where
people can get along togetherand we can work out differences
in a very civil way.
And he said can I buy this landfrom you?
And so the various tribes said, yeah, we'll sell you that land
is so those treaties is existand you can look at them.

(05:07):
William Penn signed the treatieswith these native tribes.
Native tribes said yeah, we'llget that land to you for in
exchange for what you're givingus.
And both sides were happy withthe exchange.
Both sides felt like they haddone a really good deal.
But then another tribe cameforward, said don't wait a
minute before that tribe sold itto you, they stole the land
from us and we're the actualowners of that that land.
And Penn says well, I'll buy itfrom you too.

(05:28):
So Penn then turns around andbuys the same land from the
second tribe.
And then another tribe comesforward and said yeah, before
those guys sat in who werestolen from the other guys, they
stole it from us.
So Penn tried to do the rightthing actually does three
different tribe payments fortribes who are claiming the same
land, but it was taken fromthem by other Indian tribes.
So this is not colonialismforcing their way down that the

(05:51):
throat of the Native Americansand forcing them to conform.
And they're top of that, whenhe gets there, unlike so many
other places in the world, hedoesn't set up a state
established religion.
I mean, if you're in France, you got to be Catholic, and if
you're in England, you got to beAnglican, and if you're in in
Germany, you got to be Lutheran.
He says, hey, whatever yourreligious belief is, you're
welcome here in Pennsylvania.
We're not gonna have the statetell you what your belief is.

(06:14):
There's so much good aboutWilliam Penn that became a model
for so much of what we have inour bill of rights today, and so
the the protection of privateproperty and self-government.
He set up this great system ofself-government where the people
are the ones who make thedecisions.
You don't have leaders tellingyou, it's the people.
And everything aboutPennsylvania, maybe more than

(06:35):
most other colonies in America, there's so much good there to
point out.
Now, were their bad things havehappened.
Sure, because people wereinvolved.
But is it the story that thethe wolf wants to tell?
Absolutely not.
And so here you've got thisgreat model and the Biden Park
services says oh no, no, we'vegot to take that out.
That's not a very welcomingfigure.
Well, there was such an outcryand there were enough historians

(06:58):
and citizens who got involvedand said are you guys complete
idiots?
Do you not know that this maybe the best, the best example of
what's right about America andyou want to tear it down?
And so that the session to takeWilliam Penn down lasted three
days and then they reversethemselves and said whoops our
bad , we're not gonna do thatafter all.
So that is really good newsthat there was enough public

(07:23):
outcry and enough legislativeoutcry and even the Democrats in
Pennsylvania told the Bidenadministration you guys are
crazy.
I mean the governor there, democrat governor, democrat
senator, us senator.
They all weighed in and saidyou guys clearly don't know who
William Penn is.
So the good news is it isstaying there and hopefully we
can start teaching betterhistory so that we don't even

(07:43):
have to go through these thingsanymore and we'll know who the
really good guys actually are.

Tim Barton (07:48):
And there are some great resources out there on
William Penn, by the way, ifpeople want to learn more about
him and a shameless plug we dotalk about him in our book, the
American Story of the Beginnings, as we lay out the foundation
of so much of the early coloniesin America, and specifically
the New England and Northerncolonies, where virtually every
Northern and New England colonywas founded by religious

(08:10):
individuals seeking religiousfreedom, escaping religious
persecution that endured over inEurope, and so this is part of
the fabric and foundation ofAmerica that more people knew we
would probably have a verydifferent thought, feeling and
really approach even to ournation as a whole.
So I highly encourage people goback, learn the story of William
Penn.
Again, a lot of great resourcesout there.

(08:32):
I think our friend SteveMcDowell from the Providence
Foundation has written about him.
I think Bill Federer is writtenabout him.
We have stuff on him as wellwith the American Story.
So we definitely encourage youto find out more about William
Penn and certainly many of theother incredible leaders that
were the founders of these earlycolonies and the leaders early
in our nation.

Rick Green (08:49):
Well, I know we probably don't disagree enough
on this program.
People probably say youprobably have more viewers if
you all just yelled at eachother once in a while.
But I'm gonna disagree with youguys on this story.
This is a bad news story, really bad news, because when
this first came out, I textedour state ambassador for the
Constitutional Coach Programthere in Pennsylvania and I said
Tony, we want that statue forthe Patriot Academy campus, so

(09:09):
let's hope they decide to getrid of it and then you make sure
that they ship it down toFredericksburg,T exas.
So I'm just gonna disagree withyou guys.
It would have been a lot betterto get that statue and put it
in Fredericksburg and not havethe culture win, because I'm
selfish.
Okay, no, seriously, it's agreat story.
But I really did text her whenthat happened.
So I was like I can't believethey're gonna get rid of William
Penn.
We'll take him! He'll be ourhero in Texas! We'll take him!.

(09:30):
All right, Tim, what's yourfirst piece of good news today?

Tim Barton (09:34):
Well, I can follow on and saying that we have taken
many great heroes in Texas, like a Davey Crockett and a Sam
Houston and many others, right.
So hey, you send them to us.
We will make them great.
My story is coming from Beckettand they have an article out or
they had a study out.
The article is by Life News butthe title says support for

(09:55):
religious freedom in Americahits highest mark.
Now, just for people to wraptheir head around this the the
largest support in the historyof these studies, the support
for religious freedom in itshighest score ever, with 69%.
Now when I'm saying that right,we're not talking about the way
people viewed this back in thefounding era, the 1780s, the

(10:18):
1790s.
We're not talking about maybe, probably this these studies were
done even after Ronald Reaganwas president, so we're talking
much more in the last couple ofdecades, but the the highest
support ever for religiousfreedom.
On a scale of 0 to 100, 69% ofthe individuals in America said
they support religious freedom.

(10:38):
And there was a lot of thingsin this study from Beckett where
they went through and saw whatpeople's views were on really
multiple different issues.
They have an index and so theygo as they break it down, they
go from kind of different age, demographic, really interesting
a lot of opinions whereAmericans are now that if we

(11:00):
look back a couple years ago weknew it should have been higher.
So, for example, they identifythat over two thirds, or 67%, of
Americans believe that parentsshould be the primary educators
of their children and should beable to opt them out of school
curriculum if the parentsbelieve the material is
inappropriate or violates theirreligious beliefs.
Now, we knew the majority ofparents were not OK.

(11:24):
When you have differentacademic and political leaders
saying that parents should haveno say in their child's
education, that the governmentshould be the ones taking care
of what kids learn and what theyknow and what they believe, and
parents really shouldn't bethat involved, we knew that was
not going to be correct in theview of what most Americans
thought.
And yet we saw we did not seeenough pushback initially.

(11:46):
And then, of course, moms beginwaking up, dads being waking up
, grandparents woke up and theywere showing up at the school
board meetings over the lastcouple of years, but we're
talking about the vast majorityof Americans recognizing that
this is not what we want to do.
So, as it goes through thisstudy, they're breaking down the
information they found and theyidentify that, when you look at

(12:07):
the Religious FreedomRestoration Act, which actually,
in 2023, celebrated its 30thanniversary and the Religious
Freedom Restoration Act was astandard.
The federal government was giventhat they cannot burden
religious freedom unless theyhave a compelling reason.
So, for example, if someone wassaying my religion is to murder

(12:31):
people, okay, well, thegovernment has a compelling
interest to protect the right tolife and to not allow people to
murder, so they're going to getinvolved in that.
So they have to have acompelling reason to limit
someone's religious freedom ortheir religious actions or
beliefs in action.
And then, number two, they havechosen the option least
restrictive of the religiousfreedoms.

(12:51):
So if they said look, you hadlots of options, if you wanted
to pray at a certain place, butyou decided to bring a massive
amplifier with a microphone intothe school cafeteria and this
six year old is screaming in themicrophone or prayer, that's
not really the best way to dothat.

(13:12):
We can say yes, you should beable to pray over your meal,
pray with your friends, have aprayer meeting but when you get
a little obnoxious with this, there is a parameter that the
government can say right, that'sa little too much, but they
have to do the least restrictivemeans possible.
While looking at this study, andoverwhelming, 88% of Americans

(13:34):
favored the Religious FreedomRestoration Act and an even
stronger standard for religiousfreedom.
So I can go through more ofthis article, but the bottom
line is that we are seeing sucha stronger standard for
religious freedom and, guys, atthis point it feels like it's
been a decade ago.
But the COVID lockdown just acouple of years ago, when that

(13:56):
was happening, there were a lotof Christians, there were a lot
of pastors who were saying, hey,we will close our church down
as long as it needs to, andchurches shouldn't have special
privileges.
Right, just because the liquorstore is open, just because you
can go to a marijuana dispensary, just because the strip club is
open, doesn't mean churchesshould be open.
Now, as stupid as that is, thatis a position a lot of pastors

(14:19):
and even some Christians took.
And so now, seeing thisincredible shift, reversal from
what culture is understandingabout this, that is incredibly
encouraging.
88% of Americans favored verystrong protections for religious
freedom.
That's good news.

Rick Green (14:37):
Very good news.
Time for a break, guys.
We'll be right back more goodnews when we return.
You're listening to the wallbuilder show.

Tim Barton (14:46):
Hi, friends, this is Tim Barton of WallBuilders.
This is the time when mostAmericans don't know much about
American history, or even heroesof the faith, and I know often
times for parents we're tryingto find good content for our
kids to read and if you remember, back to the Bible, to the book
of Hebrews, it has the faithHall of Fame where they outlined
the leaders of faith that hadgone before them.
Well, this is something that, asAmericans, we really want to go
back and outline some of theseheroes, not just of American

(15:08):
history, but heroes ofChristianity and our faith as
well.
I want to let you know aboutsome biographical sketches we
have available on our website.
One is called the courageousleaders collection, and this
collection includes people likeAbigail Adams, Abraham Lincoln,
Francis Scott Key, GeorgeWashington Carver, Susanna
Wesley, even the Wright brothers, and there's a second
collection called heroes ofhistory, and this collection
you'll read about people likeBenjamin Franklin or Christopher

(15:29):
Columbus, Daniel Boone, GeorgeWashington, Harriet Tubman,
friends the list goes on and on.
This is a great collection foryour young person to have and
read and it's a providentialview of American and Christian
history.
This is available atwallbuilders.
com that's www.
wallbuilders.
com.

Rick Green (15:49):
Welcome back to The WallB uilders Show.
More good news coming at you.

David Barton (15:53):
This is an interesting story dealing with
immigration.
I guess one piece of good newsis that even the, the blue
cities, a lot of the large bluecities, are recognizing that the
federal government's not doingthe right thing with immigration
and they're not controlling theborders.
And so all these blue mayorsare reaching out to the Biden
administration saying, hey, allthese people you're letting come

(16:13):
across are taking so much moneyout of what we have in the city
, we're having to provideservices we wouldn't normally
have to provide and we needbillions and billions and
billions from you.
So there's a recognition, evenon the left, that immigration is
not headed the right direction.
Well, one of those places wheresome immigrants have showed up
is New York City, and I found itamazing, by the way, when

(16:34):
Governors like, Governor Abbottwas was taking it, and Governor
DeSantis, they were bussingimmigrants to all these other
places or flying them to theseplaces when there's as many as a
hundred immigrants that wouldshow up, these mayors were
claiming hey, that's gonna that, that's gonna ruin the city, we
don't have that much money.
We're going.
, hey, in Texas, we get twentyseven hundred a day and you're
looking at a hundred.
You can't handle that?
What is it for us in Texas,Arizona, New Mexico, elsewhere?

(16:57):
So all that to say that in NewYork City, as they've had s
everal thousand immigrants thathave have gone to New York City
and they're not being able tohandle it, the story here is
that they have taken one oftheir high schools in New York
City, Madison High School.
They have closed it down.
That's a large high school, has3400 students.

(17:17):
But they have closed the highschool down and sent all the
students home and said, hey guys, you're just gonna have to
learn online or do what you can,but we need that high school to
house the immigrants that arehere.
We have illegal immigrants,we've got to take care of them.
So what you've seen is isnumber one they're saying kids,
your education is not nearly asimportant as taking care of

(17:37):
these illegal immigrants, sowe're sending you home so we can
take care of them.
And let me just do a littlebiblical verse here.
T his is a matter of prioritiesfor what you're seeing New York
City and if you go back to theBible in 1st Timothy 5:8, this
is if you don't take care ofyour own household, the people
in your household, and take careof them first, it says you're
worse than an infidel.
You've denied the faith.

(17:58):
What they've done is they'renot taking care of their own
citizens, they're taking care ofother citizens, and they thus
violated that biblical priority.
You take care of your own stufffirst.
You take care of your house, your community, your home, and
then you take care other stuffafter that.
So it's not that the Bible isagainst helping the immigrants,
against helping the needy.
Yes, you have the orphans andthe widows and those that are

(18:18):
need, but your first priority istaking care of your house and
then this.
So all of this to say what's thegood news out of this really
weird story out of New York City?
And this is good newstongue-in-cheek.
You guys may slap me down forthis, but the good news in this
is that these 3400 kids that arenot gonna be in New York City
schools are now going to get abetter education by not being in

(18:40):
school.
This is going to improve theireducation.
They have a much betteropportunity to get truth and and
to find better forms ofeducation online with all these
other schools out there andparents will be much more able
to see what's going on, just asthey did in COVID and that's
what led to so much schoolchoice out of the COVID stuff.
Parents said I can't believethey're teaching this to my kids

(19:00):
.
So I think this is gonna bereally good for those kids
because they will get a bettereducation now being away from
the indoctrination New York City.
But that's my tongue-in-cheekgood news.
I think it really actually isgonna be good news.

Tim Barton (19:13):
Well and dad, t's it's only good news, depending
on what source they pick, because they choose another woke
education structure or anotherwoke school, obviously it's a
problem, and I say that notbelittling what you're saying,
but recognizing that this is oneof the reasons we have
encouraged so many parents thatyou need to be very proactive
and engaged in your child'seducation, because the vast

(19:34):
majority of curriculum, or ofteachers at least teaching
curriculum in public schools.
They're embracing a veryradical ideology and even though
, again, we know a lot of reallygood public school individuals,
that we have some in our family, there's people that we love,
that we know are doing anincredible job.

(19:54):
We know there's people thathave prayed and feel God has
called them to be a teacher in apublic school or maybe
administration or a principal,superintendent.
We know some really good peoplein the system.
It doesn't change the fact thatso much of what is being taught
in the public education, thepublic school system, is really
really bad propaganda isunbiblical, is immoral and is

(20:17):
not what kids need to belearning.
It's why we've been encouragingparents you really need to
prayerfully consider where yourkids need to be going to school
that there isn't accountabilityfor that.
Right when Jesus.
.
There's a couple of interestingthings.
When you look at Jesus, whatdid he say was some of the most
significant, strictest things?
Right, he said well, theunforgivable sin is blaspheming
the Holy Spirit.
Okay, check right.
What would maybe we scale aboveor below, or maybe not above,

(20:41):
because something isunforgivable, except that one
identified in scripture by Jesus.
But maybe right below that, hesaid if anyone calls this one of
these little ones to stubble,it's better that a millstone, a
giant rock, be tied around theirneck and thrown into the ocean.
Now, Jesus is not encouragingsuicide for individuals, but
he's highlighting the importanceof the rising generation.

(21:03):
People that are going tointentionally mislead the rising
generation, there is aincredibly high standard of
judgment.
He says better for you to justget yourself like literally kill
yourself in that scenario, don't risk misleading these kids
because of the judgment, theconsequences you will face
because of that.
Now, the reason I bring this upis parents are the ones that are

(21:24):
told they're in charge of theinstruction for their kids, and
most parents have no idea whattheir kids are learning.
Therefore, they don't even knowthat their kids are being lied
to, that they're beingprogrammed, that this propaganda
is coming against them.
Parents, we would highlyencourage you, you need to think
about where your kids are inschool and what they're learning
.
Do we really know the teachersin the world view the teachers?
The teachers believe in truth?

(21:45):
Do they believe in biblicalstandards of morality?
This is important stuff to knowas we navigate the education
system.
So, dad, kind of back a littlebit when you're tongue-in-cheek,
they're gonna learn more notbeing in that school system.
Well, it's very possible theyactually will learn way more
being out of that system.
Even if a parent just said hey, here's a couple of books we're
gonna homeschool you.
Read these at home.
They'll probably get a farbetter education.

(22:06):
But it does matter incrediblymuch what the ideology and what
the philosophy of that educatoris.
You can go from one school tothe next, but if those teachers
have the same ideas abouteducation or using the same
curriculum, you haven't solvedany problems.
You have to change the worldview of the people that are
teaching that rising generation32 states now embrace school

(22:28):
choice, so that's even some ofthe blue states.

David Barton (22:30):
32 states now embrace school choice, so that's
even some of the blue states.
So this is starting to catch on.
The states are seeing how badtheir education is.
32 states now have schoolchoice in some form.

Rick Green (22:38):
Yeah, Tim, even as the parents are starting to look
, there is starting to be moresolutions as well.
I know we've all three been, you know, to a ton of different
homeschool conventions andtalked at private schools and
we're seeing that growth ofother options for parents as
well.
School choice is growing allover the country, so more and
more states are adopting that.
So this is all good news.
There really is an educationrevolution happening right now

(22:58):
and you're right, it goes backto they saw all the parents saw
this evil stuff being taught andthey said I finally woke up, I
gotta do something different.
I think people just didn'twanna believe that that school
they grew up in played ball for,or whatever it might be, could
possibly be this bad, but it isfolks.
And so it's really good to seethis revolution in education
happening.
All right, Tim, we got time forone more.
Go for it, man.

Tim Barton (23:18):
All right.
Well, this one is coming out ofCalifornia and we have joked
often when you find good newscoming out of California, right,
we're all a little shocked.
Well, this is good news comingfrom the Ninth Circuit Court of
Appeals and we've had good newsa couple of times from them, but
generally that's a very liberalcourt.
Well, this one is dealing withCalifornia and specifically the

(23:40):
city of Berkeley.
They impose new standards wherethey said that you are not
allowed to have any gas stove.
So for all buildings that werebeing done, commercial buildings
, any of the new buildingprojects they could not have gas
stoves.
And, of course, if you'retalking commercial industry
buildings and you're talkingrestaurants, the vast majority
of restaurants are using gasstoves.

(24:00):
So it's absolutely damaging, hindering a lot of the food
industry.
What's remarkable is the NinthCircuit Court of Appeals there's
actually a judge that alreadyruled against that standard from
Berkeley, saying, hey, you'rewrong, you cannot do this.
And they cited something allthe way back from 1975, it's the

(24:23):
ECPA, the Energy Policy andConservation Act, which prevents
cities from, and even statesfrom, going against what kind of
standards might be in placefrom the federal government, etc
.
It really is kind of in theweeds.
I don't want to get into theweeds on this a lot, but what's
interesting about this is, inthe Ninth Circuit Court of
Appeals, the judges that ruledin favor of these restaurants

(24:48):
using gas stoves.
They said , you can't just havearbitrary application and that
goes against the Constitution orfederal law.
States can't arbitrarily dothat.
There was a dissenting judge onthis panel and the judge said ,
even though all that stuffmight be true, that the city
should be allowed to do thisbecause banning gas stoves will

(25:08):
help prevent climate change andclimate change is the biggest
threat to our democracy.
You know, echoing that kind ofnonsense lying in that judge may
be also where noting wasappointed by President Obama, so
very leftist judge.
But the good news is that noweven the Ninth Circuit Court of
Appeals the panel has identifiedthat California cannot ban gas
stoves not something I thought Iwould see coming from the Ninth

(25:31):
Circuit.
So that's really good news.

Rick Green (25:33):
