In this episode, we talk to past Self-Healing Communities of Michiana team members, Kate Bindel and Aysha Gibson, on their experiences with Self-Healing Communities and how these experiences have influenced them and the path they are on. They discuss how Self-Healing Communities has affected their time and goals as medical students, and they also share advice they would give future doctors and current doctors. 

Dr. Nancy Michael explains NEAR-P Science (Neuroscience, Epigenetic, Adverse Childhood Experiences, Resilience, and Protective Factors). These different fields underpin the work of Self-Healing Communities and Trauma-informed Care.

We have a special guest, Kimberly Green Reeves, Executive Director for Beacon Community Impact, as our guest. Kimberly discusses how Beacon came to realize adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) were an important factor for assessing community health. She explains how community leaders came to become ACEs trained, how Beacon Health Systems journeyed to becoming Trauma-Informed, and why Kimberly believes in this work.

Welcome! This first episode is all about introducing you to our work. Dr. Nancy Michael from the University of Notre Dame shares her hope in the Self-Healing Communities model to build healthy communities. She also answers the question: what is the neuroscience of human resilience?
