Europa heeft een nieuw digitaal systeem in gebruik genomen dat reizen van niet-EU-burgers naar Europa registreert. Het systeem, dat de ouderwetse stempel in het paspoort moet vervangen, heet het Entry/Exit System (EES). Volgens Europa-correspondent Stefan de Vries is het bedoeld om beter bij te houden wie het Schengengebied binnenkomt en verlaat. ‘En dat gebeurt nu niet meer met inkt, maar met biometrische gegevens: vingerafdrukken en gezichtsherkenning.’
