Israël en Hamas hebben een akkoord bereikt over de eerste fase van een wapenstilstand in de Gazastrook, melden de Verenigde Staten, Israël, Hamas en de bemiddelaar Qatar. Rond 01.00 maakte de Amerikaanse president Trump het in zijn woorden ‘historische akkoord’ bekend. Volgens hem zullen alle gijzelaars ‘zeer snel’ vrijkomen. Trump bedankte de bemiddelaars uit Qatar, Egypte en Turkije: ‘Dit betekent dat ALLE gijzelaars zeer binnenkort zullen worden vrijgelaten en dat Israël zijn troepen zal terugtrekken tot een overeengekomen lijn als eerste stap naar een sterke, duurzame en eeuwigdurende vrede’.
