We zitten gevaarlijk dicht bij een klimatologisch kantelpunt waardoor de Atlantische Oceaancirculatie voorgoed kan veranderen, blijkt uit het Global Tipping Point Report dat in november zal worden gepresenteerd op de klimaattop COP30 in Belém. ‘Als er niet genoeg maatregelen worden genomen voor dit kantelpunt, zal dit grote gevolgen hebben voor onder andere het klimaat in Noordwest-Europa’, vertelt Henk Dijkstra, fysisch oceanograaf aan de Universiteit Utrecht.
