Speaker 1 (00:02):
Draft.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
It's now officially open.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
This is Draft Season presented by Moody's, a proud partner
of the New York Giants. Decode Risks, Unlock Opportunity, Learn
Moore at moodies dot com. We are live from the
Hackensack Meridian Health Podcast studio Keep getting Better.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
I am John Schmelke.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
As always, we are joined by Tony Pauline from sports
keita dot com. Only a week away from the NFL Draft,
it is coming fast and furious. A busy show today.
We have about eighteen questions from fans. They've done a
great job of getting them in. A lot of them
are Giants related, but we will get to the ones
that aren't are not Giant centric. We have our first
(00:45):
round grades from both of us, and then we have
our sleepers in this year's draft. So we'll try to
motor through this as quickly as possible, so we have
some time Tony, anything on sports key to coming up
that fan just keep their eye on before we get going.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Just all the breaking news as to where what teams
are bringing in, which players, the chatter amongst the what
trades could happen or what teams could be looking to trade.
That's gonna just get louder and louder and louder as
we get further away from final draft meetings and closer
to the actual event itself.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
And then next week we'll have Tony's final mob draft,
or at least close to it.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
That'll be recorded on Tuesday.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
They might have a couple of changes before we get
the draft night, but that'll be all of Tony's latest
intel on what he thinks they're doing in the draft,
and he's gonna make all the picks, and then it's
my job to pick them apart a little bit and
to push him on stuff. So I'm gonna have fun
with that because I have nothing on the line and
Tony does, so that'll be fun for me. All right, Tony,
why don't we go through your first round grades?
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Here?
Speaker 2 (01:42):
How many total did you have? And who are the players?
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Then I'll give you mine and we'll talk about the
discrepancies between the two.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
I had twenty one, which a lot of people are
gonna believe is a big number for this year. So
I had twenty one solid first round grades. You know,
I'm pretty pretty I feel pretty good about this. Guys
at the bottom of the list, Tyler Warren. I know
a lot of people love him. I don't know that
(02:12):
you know in ordinary drafts he deserves a first round grade.
I game a first round grade. Josh Simmons, you have
to factor in the injury, you know, does he deserve
a first round grade? Missing half the season with that
knee injury? He's still a terrific left tackle. And then
you know the conversation piece that everyone's talked about literally
(02:33):
for you know, more than a month now, is Shador Sanders?
Is Shador Sanders? Does he deserve a solid first round grade?
I gave him one merrily because of what I still
in twenty twenty three, and I think he can be
a good starting quarterback in the league. I don't think
he's a franchise quarterback. I don't think he's worth a
(02:53):
very very early pick in the draft, as I reported
yesterday at sports Gita.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
But he is on your first round list. I'll go
through them.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
I'll start at the bottom and I'll go to the top.
So we have Tyler Warren, Walter Nolan, Josh Simmons, Luther Burden,
Shadoor Sanders, Coleston Loveland, Kenneth Grant, James Pierce, Nick Emmon Warrie,
will Johnson, Teed McMillan, Kelvin Banks, cam Ward, Mason Graham,
Jayalen Walker, Mikel Williams, Armond, Membo, Will Campbell, Ashton Genty,
(03:25):
Travis Hunter, Abdul Carter. So mine is similar to yours, Tony,
I have not finished I do linebackers last, so I've
not done John Campbell. But I think I'm gonna have
a first round great on based on what I've seen already,
so I have him in my list. I have Kelvin Banks,
Kyler Warren, Coaston Loveland, Mike Green, Josh Simmons, Mikel Williams,
(03:48):
Derek Harmon, Armond, Membo, Will Campbell, Jayalen Walker, Teed McMillan,
Mason Graham, Ashton Genty, Travis Hunter, and of course cam Ward.
So that's my group I have right now three, four, five,
six seventy nine. Let's see sixteen seventeen if you count Campbell,
(04:11):
so I have a little bit fewer than you. I
had a couple of late adjustments and we can start
getting into the differences here. I did not put any
corners into my true first round grades. I have both
Baron and Johnson. Is kind of first and the first
beginning of second type of deal kind of like that
borderline category, but you have Will Johnson in there. How
(04:31):
close was Johnny Baron into getting into your first round
grade list?
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Now there's a significant difference. I think that a Baron
is he a slot corner, is an outside corner. I
know that Will Johnson based off of twenty twenty three
could be number one outside corner. I think that John
Day Baron's still a little rough around the edges. Now.
You know, the pessimist will say, well, look at we'll
Fillel Johnson in twenty twenty four poorly. He played with
(04:59):
the injury, gave up a lot of the receptions, and
that's a legitimate complaint. But I remember what I saw
from Johnson twenty twenty two, especially in twenty twenty three,
and actually going against you know what I usually feel
because like quarterbacks. I like quarnerbacks that are coming off
a good season. We've seen a lot of those guys
come out of Ohio State enter the draft ball for
(05:21):
four seasons and never lived up to expectations. Maybe Will
Johnson from Michigan bucks that trend, all right.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
A couple other difference the ad I have Mike Green
in the first round, Tony, you did not, So why
is Mike Green out of your first round Greene group?
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Yeah, I still think. No, he's gonna go. He's going
to go in the first round. I just did not
give him a first round grade. I still think he's
a bit one dimensional. The size and the lack of
growth potential or a concern to me. I've stated at
all along I have my concerns about Mike Green playing
the run. On Sunday, You've seen you. You said a
(05:58):
couple of times that you're I'm okay with it. You
believe he'd be a good run defender. You know, I
don't know, But again I think it's the one dimensionality
of his game. Really good ed rusher, but I don't
think he's up there with some of the top edge
rushers in this draft.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Why know Derek Harmon is I got to be honest, Tony.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
When I watched him in more detail, I came away
loving the player. I have him as like my tenth
best player in this class. Why did Harmon make your
first round list?
Speaker 1 (06:26):
He's just on the outside of it. I like Walter
Nolan a lot. Walter Nolan is now getting talk to
the San Francisco forty nine ers. They're pick in the
first round. He's an incredible playmaker. I thought that Harmon
just struggled getting off blocks, where Walter Nolan was more penetrator.
I like Nolan, you know, comparing him to Nolan, I
(06:47):
like Nolan's ability to his growth potential. Harmon also does
have some growth potential. Harmon, Baron Golden, Green, Campbell, and
Connery were just on the outside I have first second
round grades on, so they were just on the outside
of being sure fire first rounders on my board.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
That's funny.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
My first guys out to Tony were Baron Golden, I
had a book in that mix too, Kenneth Grant and Connorley.
So those are the Nwill Johnson. Those are the first
guys out, and then as Arok Whu's my next. Those
are the kind of the guys that I at one
point I think I had all those guys with the
first round grade and I decided to slide them down
a little bit to beat. I'm trying to be a
little pickier here in terms of me a bit a
(07:29):
little tougher on the guys. But those are my first
guys out of round number one we both have.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Let me let me ask you. You don't have a
first round grade on Matthew Golden, do you?
Speaker 2 (07:38):
No?
Speaker 1 (07:38):
I do not, and neither do I. I mean so,
but Matthew Golden could end up as a twelfth pick
to the Dallas Cowboys. And I didn't hear you say
you don't. It seems to me you don't have a
first round grade on Ted McMillan either.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
No, I do I know I I I might have
missed him on my left.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
He's my sixth player in the draft. I love Tet.
I'm probably higher on him than most as am. I
I like him Tony.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
I know a lot of people talk about it seems
like he's gliding sometimes and not going all out.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
I think he's just pacing routes. I don't not that
concern with it.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
I think for a guy that size, he's really good
after the catch. He's got wiggle to him for a
guy that size is fast enough for me, and I
think Golden, by the way, is gonna be a great
number two. I think he's a really good route runner.
He can catch the football. He's not as fast as
his time speed, but he's fast enough. Like if you
put him across from Ceedee Lamb. I think he'd that'd
be a great kind of like the way Jordan Addison's
(08:32):
a good comment to Justin Jefferson, right. I think Golden
is like a Jordan Addison type of player, and.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
He's only going to get better. I mean, he has
played a lot of college football, but he was at
UTSA before Texas, so I think he's only going to
get better. I disagree with the fact that the criticisms
of Ted McMillan's going to half speed. He was on
a very marginal team last season. He always found ways
to get open, always coming back to the football. You know,
he's doesn't have the great speed, but he's got it
(09:01):
going on between the ears. Psychologically, he's got great football intelligence,
which I think really helps a lot. And his ability
to read the defense, know what the corner his opponent,
the cornerback or the nickelback is going to do, find
the open spot. To me, that really makes up for
the fact that he's not a four four five guy.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
The other guy went back and forth on that you
have in and I don't is Nick Iminwari Tony, who
I think is a look in terms of promise I
think it's fantastic. The way he moves for a man
his size is just insane. I just wish I saw
the physicality to match the size a little bit more
(09:40):
often with his tackling.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
You know. I think in that defense he made a
lot of plays against the ball, and that's what I
like with the safety. When the balls in the air,
you got to be able to make You got to
be able to play the pass rather than just be
a college safety that's a run first defender. And the
Manauari does it between the numbers, he does it outside
and getting to the flanks. I think the concern with
(10:04):
him is is he going to be able to play
a free safety position at two hundred and twenty pounds?
Are you going to be able to line him up
over the spot receiver being that big? But you know what,
the Ravens showed what you can do with a bigger
safety in Kyle Hamilton. And I'm gonna ware he's four
tenths faster than go three tenths faster than Kyle Hamilton.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
All Right, three other guys, I want to mention you
of Pearson you have I think he's a little one
dimensional for me. Tony, I worry about the power factor.
I feel better about Green and his strength and power
than I do Pierce, which is why I have I
think Green a thing up, and you ap pierced the
thing down, and I appiers the thing down. Luther Burden,
(10:47):
I can't get past him in that offense. I think
a Buke and Golden are both better players than him.
But I understand the promise, and he flashes some stuff
that's special, and then we already kind of talked about
Walter Nolan, but I'm worrying about those other two.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Here's the thing about Pierce, six foot five, two hundred
and forty five pounds, runs them plays to a four
four seven. I understand the fact that he looks like
a stick figure out there because he's so tall, thin.
He doesn't show a lot of strength. But he's a
younger guy, so in six foot five, he should be
easily able to put on another ten pounds to fifteen
(11:20):
pounds just as he gets into an NFL weight training
program and his body just physically matures. So I have
Pierce rated because I think he's a good player now.
I think in time, if he focuses on what has
to be done off the field, he can be an
outstanding player, and you know, you watch the film, he's
more than just an up the field guy. I mean
(11:42):
he's more than just an edgdresser. He gets out into space,
he gets out latterly in pursuit making plays against the
ball handler. So he does a lot of things well.
As far as the Burden's concern, I've said this numerous
times on the show, Luther Burden coming into to the
season was their number one graded prospect by NFL scouts,
(12:02):
not the number one receiver, the number one prospect in
the nation as far as college players were concerned. So
I still think that, yes, he needs to improve his
route running, he needs to expand his route running. But
I think he's got the size, he's got enough speed,
catches the ball well. I think he has all the
(12:24):
ingredients to be a legitimate number one receiver on Sunday.
You just have to put him in the right system.
I just don't see how, in my opinion, it's happened
before we could talk. I mean bring up names in
the past where a guy who was rated as the
top prospect coming into the season has just you know,
fallen the way Burden does, even though he was relatively
(12:46):
productive last year, no fair point.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
He has an injuries the last couple of years too,
which is worth keeping an eye on. So I think
those are the guys where we had differences on Tony.
There wasn't as many as you think. I think we
probably have probably fifth to fourteen or thirteen the same guy.
So I think we're very much in step, which is
not surprising. All right, let's get to these sleepers Tony.
We're gonna start at the running back position. Who do
(13:09):
you got?
Speaker 1 (13:11):
I like Leaquina Allen of Syrahcuse in Day two, Day three,
probably the opening stands of Day three, Day three more fourth,
fifth round is where I have him at. He's a
strong interior runner. He is an exceptional pass catcher out
of the backfield. He does a lot of things well.
The problem is he's two hundred and four pounds and
(13:32):
he runs into four or five to five, so that
those side speed numbers are not there. But he's a
real good back. I think he can be a feature runner,
but I think he's gonna be a good situational ball carrier.
To start off with Kyle Malnagy from Rutgers, I have
him a sixth round grade maybe this is just me
being sentimental, you know, letting you know, my heart take
over my head.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
But the sixth round is more than fair for him. Tony,
I don't think you're I don't think you're being sentimental there.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
I like him too.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
Yeah, Managhy was just a terrific ball carrier for Rutgers.
I mean, he carried that Rutgers offense two years ago,
came back this year when he really didn't have to do.
He has been the Rutgers offense the past two seasons.
A very smart I interviewed him. I mean, he had
options to go to Ivy League schools, but he chose Rutgers.
(14:20):
And after the twenty twenty three season, he had huge
nil deals to go other places, but he said, you
know what Rutgers got. Rutgers was a team that gave
me the school that gave me the offer. I'm staying
at Rutgers. So I like that sort of tenacity and loyalty.
He's a smart runner. You know, he doesn't time well
in the forty he didn't test all that well, but
(14:41):
he plays fast and he's smart and he's instinctive, which
I think helps a lot. And then Nate Carter out
of Michigan State, a guy who the production was okay,
didn't get invited to the combine. But he is an
explosive runner. I mean, he's the guy where if there's
a small bit of open space, he can beat defenders
into the open field, run to daylight. We'ren a four
(15:03):
to three seven at his pro DA plays to that speed.
And you know Nate Carter. When you watch the best
of Nate Carter, you look at a guy that is
just so explosive in a breakaway runner. The problem is
it was up and down with Nate Carter, but still
you take him late. You know, he's perfectly suited to
be a late round pick because in those lake rounds,
(15:25):
teams start looking at size and speed and athleticism, and
Carter's got the athleticism.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
All right, I'm gonna throw one guy in for me.
I'm gonna throw Bishart Smith in here at our SMU
with transfer. He was a wide receiver converted the running back.
But he's got some stockiness to him. He's not some
one hundred and eighty pounds running back. He's been almost
two hundred pounds. He bounces off tacklers, he has great
contact bounce he has juice, good acceleration.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
He makes guys miss.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
Now, is he ever gonna be your carry the load
eighteen carry a game type of guy. No, but if
you have ten carries and five or six catches in
the pass game and touches in the pass game, I
think he could be a really good, explosive part time
player for you. And I'd be thinking about him as
early as round four, to be honest with you, or
maybe even late round three. I thought I was really
impressed with what I saw from Bershard Smith on tape.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Yeah, I think, as you know you mentioned former receivers,
just got to learn the running back position, like to
deal the more physicality in his runs, But I'm sure
that will come in time.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
Sometimes he bounces too much, and I think that's part
of him being in an experienced running back.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
I'm with you on that, Tony. All right, let's go
to wide receiver and tight end. Who do you like?
Speaker 1 (16:30):
I mean Joshua Simon out of South Carolina. I have
a fourth round great on him. Some teams have a
much later on six', four two hundred and thirty nine
pounds ran four sixty five with the combine plays to
that speed plays athletic. Football not much of a, blocker
but they really didn't ask him the Block you, know
he gave effort when he was when he you, know
he was used as a blocker primarily in, motion catches the. Ball.
(16:54):
Well you know one of those guys that is a
almost an overgrown receiver well and plays the tight end
position like a. RECEIVER i like Both arkansas Receivers Andrew
armstrong And Isaac. Tesla armstrong is a guy the production
was there two years in a. Row whenever you watch
The arkansas, film he's making the contested. Catch he's got
(17:17):
a long, frame he's got long. Arms he catches the ball. Incredibly.
Well the question about him with, Speed he goes to
his pro, day he goes to his Prote he runs
in the low four. Fours so you know the speed is.
There you just have to transition that speed onto the football.
Field Isaac tesla has the, size has the, speed good pass.
Catcher the productivity is just not. There transfer From Hillsdale
(17:40):
college kind of got better and better in the last
two years he was At, arkansas blew up the. COMBINE
i think he's got a tremendous amount of. Upside you
take him in the fifth. Round you could have a
terrific pass, catcher terrific receiver moving, forward terrific number, four
potentially number. THREE i Like Carter, running former receiver who
(18:00):
moved to tight end last. Season we saw him at
The shrine ball. Again a bigger tight end who plays
the position like a, receiver which is his former. Position
catches the ball extremely, well knows how to get, open
more of a moved tight. END i have a six
round grade On. Runion had a Decent pro. Day you,
know if he gets, drafted it's going to be, very very.
(18:21):
Late one guy not on my, list AND i didn't
have my list BECAUSE i think he's A day two
pick and he may fall him To day three is
A Ronde gatson Of, syracuse, again former receiver who played
tight end this. Year caught the ball extremely. Well we
saw him at the shrinebl At tribol practices two hundred
and forty five pounds and he didn't slow down a.
(18:41):
STEP i mean he was. Quick he caught the ball exception.
Well he's able to get. Downfield And i've said this
time and time, again The Joshua simons of the, World
Rondi yatson's of the, World Elijah. ROYA i firmly believe
these guys two or three years down the road will
will be the best tight ends to come from this year's.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
Draft All, Right i'm gonna throw one more name in,
here AND i don't know if he's a, sleeper BECAUSE
i think he's probably gonna go in the third, round
BUT i don't. Know we even talked about him a
ton AND i just watched him this past. WEEK i
Think Tory horton From Colorado state is an excellent football.
Player his production is. FANTASTIC i know he dealt with an,
injury but just look at the last couple of years before.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
That he was a sophomore and he was having a
thousand yard.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Years he's, tall, tony he's quick getting out of his,
breaks he's, fast he's a frequent. TARGET i think he's
going to be a really good, player AND i think
the team's gonna get a good steal on him coming
off that.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
Injury at the end Of day, two a lot of.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
UPSIDE i have him as A day three, selection but,
STILL i mean highly regarded by scouts the last two,
years because he could have entered the twenty twenty four,
draft decided to go. BACK i think he played six,
games had twenty five catches or something before the injury
set in on A Colorado state team that wasn't that.
Great but he's got a lot of upside and to your,
(19:54):
point he's been well liked in the scouting community for
a couple of.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
Years, now all, right let's go to the defensive line, Position.
Tony these are more of your interior. Types so he
got a couple of defensive ends in this group.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
Too want to offensive line?
Speaker 3 (20:06):
First OH i missed offensive. Line i'm, Sorry, Tony thank
you offensive. Line, yes you Have Jalen travis out Of Iowa,
State Drew kendall out Of Boston, college and then Another
Shrine bowl, Guy Gerrod Christian lichtenhan out Of Oregon.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
State Jalen, travis The princeton transfer who played right. TACKLE
i mean he's, tall he's six, seven six 't, eight
bends his, knees blocks with, leverage fundamentally. Sound but he's also.
NASTY i mean he is a guy that is. Powerful
he likes to play, nasty violent, football tries defenders off the,
(20:39):
line run, blocking not a bad pass. Protector it's not
that he's a, stiff small area. Guy moves his, feet
just doesn't have classic left tackle. Footwork we saw him
last year At Iowa. State then we saw him at
THE Cia bowl and he played with that, way that
way throughout three days Of seena bol. Practice loved the
way he uses his. HANDS i think that this guy
(20:59):
is got starting potential at the right tackle, spot and
he's going to be A day three. Pick Drew, kendall
obviously the son Of Pete, kendall the former first round
pick guard From Boston, college a terrific, center, smart understands the.
Position you can tell his father was a FORMER nfl,
player gets the most from his. ABILITY i have him
(21:21):
right now as a fifth round. Pick you can get
centers In day three that turn out to be real
good starters On, sunday AND i Think Drew kendall's one of.
THEM a guy who's, overlooked wasn't invited to The Singer.
Bowl we saw him at The. Tribel he's he's very.
Workmanlike he's not, exceptional he's not an incredibly, ay but
he's very workman like and he's football. Smart a gerard
(21:44):
Of Christian, lichtenhan like you, said we saw him at
the at the shribol and you can't miss six three
and thirty. Pounds he is a massive, lineman but he's
not a big stiff. Guy he's not one of these
guys that just beat people by he's smothering them by engulfing.
Him he blocks with good. Fundamentals he keeps his feet
(22:05):
moving a pass protection, obviously he's a right. TACKLE i
think he's going to be a six to seventh round.
Pick some people have him, earlier BUT i think he's
a real good developmental. Guy once you bring him, along
he could eventually break into a starting lineup two years
down the. Road actually transferred From colorado To Oregon, state
where he played last. YEAR i thought he was one
(22:25):
of the Bigger combine. Snubs should have, got should have
gott an invitation. There you, know you think of a
guy that, big you, think, well he's an immobile, guy
not at. All watch him moves well to the second,
level real good in pass protection as.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
Well, YEAH i want to.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
Throw a couple guys here real. Quick The Boston college
offensive Tackle Asie. Tripillo he might get a little higher
than people. Think we've been talked about him a. TON
i think you know he's a right tackle not a left.
Tackle he's a, big power, guy better in the run
than protecting the. Passer BUT i think he could be
a solid. Pro and THEN i want to Throw Willie
lampkin out There, tony just because he's such a good.
Blocker HE'S i, know he's two hundred and eighty, pounds
(23:01):
but he's he's, short but it's got long. Arms AND
i just think he's a good football. Player AND i
hope a team gives him a shot at.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
Center he's a tremendous football player and he moves very,
well AND i think he has all the ability to
be a backup in his own blocking. System and as
we saw in The Senior, BOWL i mean you Had
Walter nolan, there you Had Dion walking, there And lampton
was taken was handling these guys day after day after.
Day and it's kind of. Funny, he's what five ten
and change guy at The Senior, bowl two hundred and seventy,
(23:30):
pounds yet you know every snap he came out the.
Winner so he's don't know if he's gonna get. Drafted
if he gets, drafted gonna be very. LATE i think
he'll have every. Opportunity and remember he played center at
The Senior. Bowl but he was a guard At North,
carolina so that versatility is going to help him try
when he when he's fighting to make a roster.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
Spot all, right, now let's go to the defensive line position, Here.
Tony you Have Warren, brinson who we saw at The shrine.
Game was a disruptive baffield. Guy bigger guy, too like
three Fifteen Vernon brown out Of, texas sees play next
To collins Inside jamaar And calbell out Of, oregon who
might not be body, beautiful but.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
At three hundred and thirty three hundred and forty, pounds
that guy can.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
Move Amed hassenin out Of Boise, state who he talked
a lot about as an edge, player and Then Tyler
batty out OF. BYU i believe it's still coming back
from an.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
Injury, YEAH i, Mean brinson is a guy that's been
on the. Upswing we saw he was terrific at The
shrine ball couldn't be. Stopped he had a good. Combine you,
know you come into the season The Zier stackhouses teammate
was the higher rated. Player yet it's been nothing But
Warren brinson on the. Inside he's an athletic. GUY i
think he can use them in a variety of, roles
could even use him in a three man line that
(24:38):
uses two gap. Techniques Vernon, broughton he's, big he's, explosive
he's got terrific, size he's got a. Motor he's a
guy that was on a very Talented Texas longhorned defensive.
Line so we didn't get the headlines or the notice
that he should. Have but all the guy did was
make play after, play down after, downs and he's got
(24:59):
a great amount of. Upside Jeremy, culwell he asked me
About harmon. BEFORE i think part of the reason THAT
i don't have a first Round Grand harmon is Because,
clwell WHEN i watched, him he was just incredibly.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
EXPLOSIVE a guy that, size he can Move, tony it's,
crazy and he's got a great.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
First, step and he's a. Penetrator you, said a guy that,
size he's got to play to that size because he
gets tied up in blocks or he gets knocked off the,
line where other by smaller. Lineman where you think the
guy who's three hundred and twenty three d and thirty
pounds should be more. Powerful so if he's able to
apply power to his. Game he's got the, quickness he's
got the. Explosion Ahmad hasanian just a great. STORY i
(25:40):
think a four to three defensive end who can rush the,
passer very, athletic needs to be. Protected doesn't have great growth,
potential but a guy who does a lot of things.
Right ditto For Tyler. Baddie not a great, edgresser but
a guy who can rush the. Passer he's a terrific run.
Defender he's very. Disruptive if you watch THE byu, film
(26:02):
he was the guy that they were constantly double teaming
outside on the, edge which allowed his teammates on the
inside to make a lot of. Plays late round, pick
BUT i think he'll do well as a rotational defensive
end in a fore man. Line late round pick in
the sense THAT i have a sixth round greade on
him right.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
NOW i wanted to roll right into your edge defensive end, Group.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Tony, Yeah Tyler baron Of miami could go third. ROUND
i have a fourth round grade On georgia. Transfer when
he's on his, game you can't stop. HIM i, mean
he is, explosive he is. Athletic he is a guy who's,
fast had a great, combine, workout terrific, today, workout can
stand over, tackle come out of a three point, stance great.
Upside the motors got to keep running on. Him if
(26:43):
the motor is running on, him you're gonna hit a
home run With Tyler barron somewhere in the fourth. Round
Fadil diggs Of, syracuse another Guy texas a and m,
transfer very, athletic ran in the four sixes the pro.
Day when you watch The syracuse film last, Year digs
is all over the place when they're on, defense making
(27:04):
plays in the, backfield rushing the, passer getting out into.
SPACE i think he's more of a three to four
stand up outside, linebacker although he could put his hand
on the ground on. Occasion and Then Elijah ponder from
Cal poly here's the guy who got seventh round grades
coming into the. Season we saw him at The Shrine.
Bowl merrily came out of a three point stance to Cal,
poly can play standing over. Tackle he was a terrific
(27:27):
edge rusher on the small school, level and then during
his prote he ran four or five seven in pouring
rain because Cal poly does not have an indoor, facility
so in the, rain outside in inclement. Conditions he tore
up his pro day. Again when you get into those late,
rounds teams start to look at guys, size speed. Numbers
that's WHY i think they look Towards ponder and day,
(27:49):
three AND i think he's gonna be a real good
situational Pass rushauran On.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
Sunday, yeah trade, trades, trades all.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
Right two guys out there out, Here Tony David, walker
who was like the smallest of round the edge.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
Rusher what was?
Speaker 1 (28:02):
He?
Speaker 2 (28:03):
East Not East? Carolina where's he?
Speaker 1 (28:04):
From Tony, Arkansas, Arkansas Central. Arkansas he Started Southern arkansas
and then he went To Central, Arkansas.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
Multiple, arkansas but he showed up at The Edior ball
and he was. Fantastic man Like nolga block. Him SO
i just think for a guy like, that the traits aren't.
There but you get him on day, THREE i think
you're getting a guy that can help. You and THEN
i Though Antoine Powell ryland in. There we saw him
at The Shrine. Bowl kind of a, smaller twitchier edge,
rusher BUT i think he has some pass rush.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
Potential so those are two guys out through out.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
There, yeah and the guy got both guys you can
stand them up over. Tackle you can also have him
come out of a three point.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Stance i'm with you all. Right off ball, linebackers who
do you?
Speaker 1 (28:44):
Like Jamon Dumas johnson From kentucky by way Of georgia
gonna be a fourth fifth round. Pick more of a
two down run, defender although he did make some nice
plays against the ball The Shrine bowl when we saw him.
THERE i, mean he's just a, tough, nasty punch in
the mouth type of. Guy stacks well against the, run
(29:05):
shows good instincts in the in pass. Coverage just not
the greatest, tester not the, most not a flashy, guy
but is very. Solid Justin baron Of sarahcuse you want
to talk about Another combine. SNUB i, mean when we
were at The Senior, Browle justin barn was the best
coverage linebacker in those one on one drills where most
(29:26):
of those linebackers were getting turned and chasing players all
over the, Field Justin baron was actually covering them across the,
field down the. Field he's a little bit, smaller two
hundred and twenty five. Pounds some people think safety. Block
he's going to be a terrific one gap weak side
linebacker that on third and, five you can put him
over the tight, end you could have him cover the
running back out of the. Backfield Teddy buchannon of k
(29:48):
another sort Of justin barn type. Guy we saw him
again at The Shrine bowl and a three down. Player
he's probably better against the run Than Justin, baron but
he also shows terrific cover. Skills great. Story entered the
season basically greated as a street free agent by. Scouts
now he's going to be a middle Of day three.
(30:09):
Selection and Then Tyrene powell Of. Rutgers i'm gonna go
back to WHAT i Saw Tyrene powell early in his.
Career it was a six to four and a half
two hundred and forty five. Pounds we've talked about him
on the. Show they used him in space and they
really didn't ask him the blitz that. Much and even
at that, size he was able to stay with running
(30:29):
backs and tight ends and coverage and cover a lot of.
Area has had a lot of injuries the past couple of,
years including a as we talked about a torn achilles
a year ago Last, february yet he still played this. Season.
Speaker 3 (30:44):
Yeah, Absolutely And i'll just Throw Jack kaiser out there
at A Notre.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
DAME i just think he moves better than you. Think
he's a smart.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
Player and THEN i Think Cody simon out Of Ohio
state as well as a guy THAT i think might
drop till later On day, three BUT i think he's
a very good player and a good middle.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
Linebacker all, right defensive, Backs tony who do he?
Speaker 1 (31:02):
Got Dot Day trader Of maryland in the, SAFETY i,
mean a guy who's been terrific the past couple of,
seasons does a great job covering center, field picks up
his coverage, assignments shows the ability to stay, receivers makes
a lot of plays on the. Ball he's a tremendous lacross,
player but he's not a great. Tester ran the four
(31:23):
sixes didn't have a great vertical, jump so you gotta,
wonder how is this guy who is a terrific football
player and a great lacrosse, Player he's just not a great,
tester which is what's going to push him Into day,
three AND i think he's going to be a steal
in the middle Of day. Three Justin wally Of, minnesota
a bigger corner that we saw in the. Postseason he's
(31:43):
got solid developing ball. SKILLS i think he's more of a.
Dimeback Marcus harris of cal WHO i don't think he
played as well in twenty twenty four AS i, expected
but he's got. Size he ran in the four to.
Three he's AT. Proda he's someone that's got a great
amount of. Upside you start them off as a nickel
back and you develop him from. There and Then Garnet
(32:04):
hollis Of West, virginia someone we saw at the shrineball
who just made play after play after. Play he's over
six foot, tall over two hundred. POUNDS i was shocked
to get an invite to The. Combine REMEMBER i mean
a year. AGO i think Was Beanie kok out Of
West virginia who didn't go to The, combine went in
the very late rounds and then did a great job
(32:25):
of The Pittsburgh. STEELERS i Think Garnet hollis come out
Of West virginia's.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
Next i'll throw a couple of names out. There Kobe,
bryant WHO i thought did a great job at The shrine.
Game really, skinny not the heaviest, guy but, man he
knows how to get after the football and cover. Guys, impressman,
long lengthy guy. Too and Then Dan, jackson the safety
out Of. Georgia, tony you, know we saw a lot
of good stuff in him when he ended up. Testing,
finally he ended up testing pretty. Well so those are
two DB's THAT i think people should keep their eyes
(32:50):
on on day.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
Three And jackson is just a smart. Guy you're looking
at him as maybe a nickel, safety a third safety
who can also play on special.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
Teams, okay we have many questions, Here. Tony you guys
did a great job getting a. MAN a lot of
them Are Giants, central which is. Fine that's. Great we'll
get to, those but before we, do just to remind
Their draft season is presented By, moody's a proud partner
of The New York, giants uniting the brightest minds to
turn today's risks into tomorrow's. Opportunity learn more at moodys dot.
Com all, Right, tony we did not talk a lot
(33:21):
about Shad Or sanders when we talked about our first round.
Grades that's BECAUSE i literally have five different questions on
him and our question section. Here so if you want
to hear About, Chador tony's about to give you the.
Lowdown And i'll give you some of my take as.
Well all, right this one first AT nyg tim are
there any concerns About Chador sander's leadership style the way
(33:43):
he's kind of talked about his offensive line after The
nebraska game and going after Some nebraska teammates on social?
Media what are you hearing on the grapevine about?
Speaker 1 (33:51):
That you, Know i've heard a lot of things that
have not been verified that have raised some red flags
going back to his days At Jackson, state where it Was,
hey the offensive, line you got to do a better
jump blocking BECAUSE i want to be the first guy
FROM fcs to win A Heisman. Trophy granted that's all
second and third, hand but where there's, smoke there's, fire
(34:14):
AND i think there is a. Concern you, know you
want your quarterback to be a. Leader you don't want
your quarterback to be. Selfish, obviously the quarterbacks got to
be willing to call people out on, occasion but when
the quarterback is, selfish that that's a. Concern and you,
know Again i've not seen this, myself and you have
(34:35):
to be careful with. That this is some sometimes, second
third hand, information but those concerns are out there and
the more you hear about, them the more they legitimate they.
Speaker 3 (34:44):
Become, YEAH i have no idea if it's true about
your door or. Not And i've replied To tim On
twitter about. This this is why teams have scouting, stabs,
Right this is why they go to the. Schools they
talk to people and they meet with, them and they're
gonna have this. Information and by the, way some teams
might think differently about the. Player one team might think one,
thing one team might think. Another So i'm With, tony
take all this stuff with the grain of. Salt it's
(35:06):
all second and third hand stuff that we hear on the.
Outside and the teams are gonna have their scouts on,
campus both At Jackson state And, colorado do their homework
on these, guys and they're gonna have a better feel
for exactly what they.
Speaker 1 (35:18):
Are but that's BUT i, mean the fact is This Shador,
sanders who back In december we thought was going to
be a top three, pick is in fact. FALLING i
run about this at the combine because there are teams
that don't have first round grades on. Him when you
look at him from a physical, standpoint you know he
doesn't have a great army doesn't have eight plus arm.
Strength he really didn't improve his game. Fundamentally there are
(35:40):
a lot of. Questions does it mean he's not gonna
be a good quarterback On? Sunday, No but what it
means is there aren't enough ingredients there for him to
be a very early draft, pick or you can argue
there aren't. Enough there isn't enough there for him to
be a very early draft.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
Pick AND i think what he's, WELL i think What
i'll add to that is what he's really good at
is the stuff THAT i think it's hard to really
quantify on, Tape and when teams meet with, them if
they see that he's super, smart they see some of
these things working on the board of them and things like,
that that'll, translate, well that might allow some teams to
fall in love with. Him when we're just looking at. Tape,
obviously our evaluation there is somewhat. Incomplete All, right here we,
(36:19):
Go New, York ben nineteen sixty. Three if should Or
sanders is there at three and you pass on, him
who would The giants quarterback starting quarterback be in twenty twenty.
SIX i say this because that is the only quarterback
move you can.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
Control.
Speaker 3 (36:32):
Yourself to, me if you're in position to draft the
top quarterback on the current, draft you cannot pass that. Up,
well What i'll say to, That ben is it all
depends what's your evaluation of the player. Is AND i
don't know what The giants stink Of shud Or. Sanders
tony doesn't know what The giant stink of should Or.
Sanders if they believe he's gonna be a ten year
franchise starting quarterback and that's their, evaluation they should absolutely
(36:53):
pick the, player no doubt about. It but if they
do the evaluation and they don't feel that, way you
don't want to push a player too far up your, Board,
tony especially when you have a potential elite prospect In
Travis Hunter Abdull carter with the potential to pick those.
Speaker 1 (37:09):
Guys you also got to look at the, situation and
his situation is the same In, cleveland where you have
a general manager and a head coach who have to
get some immediate returns in twenty twenty. Five so if
you're selecting that early in the, draft you know what
he's With the questioner he said is. Right you know
that's why The Tennessee titans are gonna take Cam, ward
(37:30):
not because they think he's gonna get a lot of
they're gonna be a winning team in twenty twenty, five
but twenty twenty, six twenty twenty, seven twenty twenty. Eight
you know you're looking at a coaching staff that needs to,
play if not winning, football incredibly productive football in twenty twenty.
Five and you're more likely to do that With Abdul
(37:50):
carter rushing the edge Or Travis hunter catching passes than
Shandor sanders either sitting on the bench or being behind
center making.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
Mistakes, yeah it might be tough For hm the beat
out Of Russell wilson early in the, year to be
quite honest with, you So i'm, YEAH i totally get
where you're coming from, That. Tony All, Right so to
follow up on, that let's say he does not go
early in the. Draft this from at two d rad
realistic and non biased opinion on where should or might
go if both The browns and The giants do not draft,
(38:18):
Him and we should bring up the News tony that
came Out Derek carr is the shoulder. Injury there's a
chance he might not play this, year WHICH i think
makes A saints possibility of nine more in the.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
Cards what do you think.
Speaker 1 (38:31):
My prior to mock, DRAFTS i had him going to
The saints at. Nine the last mock, DRAFT i had
him going to The steelers at what twenty? ONE i.
Agree you know everyone's talking now about, well you, Know
Derek carr the shoulder might not play in twenty twenty.
Five are you gonna tell me that you're gonna Slot
you know you're gonna Slip Shador sanders in there For
(38:53):
Derek carr and you're gonna get the same. RESULTS i,
mean the cults The saints should draft Door sanders because
they think he's the best player and that's their quarterback
of the. Future, yep not for twenty twenty. FIVE i
think you, know with The, Steelers Aaron rodgers is still
in the conversation. There they need the quarterback moving. Forward
(39:15):
that's WHY i had him going to The. Steelers, listen
there are some teams that don't have a first round
grand On Shador, sanders so he could drop a long.
Speaker 3 (39:23):
Way all, right let's go At kevin nmc ford on. One,
Tony i'll take this. One if Ownership Joe Shane Brandon,
brown then McDonald DENNIS A, Key, dable Et cetera And
John maher are deliberating On shod or. Three who makes
the final. Decision it's gonna Be Joe. Shane that's the
general manager's. Job The giants ownership, Group John, Maraw Steve
(39:44):
tishan and the, families they empower the general manager to
make those.
Speaker 2 (39:48):
Decisions Joe.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
Shane, again you want to build a, consensus especially if
you're picking a franchise, quarterback to everyone be on the same.
Page you don't want to split room in that situation,
ideally but eventually it would Be Joe. Shane it makes
that tie breaking.
Speaker 2 (40:01):
Vote all, Right.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
Final question on The shador stuff at the, Top, tony
could you see The giants Wanting shador but instead of
passing On carter A hunter at, three they're.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
Able to create a little bit of a bidding.
Speaker 3 (40:12):
War trade down a couple of spots With jacksonville In New.
England drop down one or two. Spots you don't Get
hunter Or, carter but you get at least another day
two pick for your trouble BECAUSE i theoretically you would
think you can still Get shador at four or five
if you move down one or two, spots AND i
imagine Both hunter were Or carter would be in demand
for Both jacksonville And New.
Speaker 1 (40:33):
England, well there's a lot of hypotheticals and scenarios. There
All i'll say, is if The giants are sold On,
SHADOR i think it makes more sense for them to
trade down and take him later on in the first
round than to take him at three fair.
Speaker 2 (40:49):
Point, okay here we.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
Go now let's move on to the Non shaudor portion
of our programming AT afc five two five. Three as
The giants general, Manager i'm putting you in that, Chair.
Tony given the choice Between Travis hunter And Abdul, carter
who would you?
Speaker 2 (41:04):
Choose and Why i'm.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
Taking out Dull caliter Because number one is he's the
top rated player on my, board so you get the
top rated player with the third pick of the. Draft
he's also a potential impact defensive, player and long before
it was a quarterback, league every team in the draft
wanted to come away with that impact defensive. Player giant,
fans Old giant, fans Remember Lawrence, taylor the impact defensive.
(41:27):
Player you, know where where are you Using? Hunter i've
always had him on my receiver. Board more and more
people are now starting to talk about him as a.
Receiver but, STILL i, MEAN i like him at. RECEIVER
i just love a Dull carter's ability to be a
three down defender as a pass, rusher playing space more
AND i think it brings more.
Speaker 2 (41:48):
Impact, yeah, well to, me this is a close. One
both players are really.
Speaker 3 (41:53):
Good that the top two players in my, opinion AND
i think a lot of people's opinion as. WELL i
would think either pick would be a slam. DUNK i
like the fact That hunter you get a bite of
the apple in two. Spots if he doesn't work in,
one you can use him at the. Other he's healthy
off the field personality. Wise everyone says he's just a fantastic,
kid BUT i think he has some things to work
on at both spots. Too Abdul, carter if he checks
(42:14):
out health, wise, look he plays a premium.
Speaker 2 (42:17):
Position there's been Von miller comparisons with.
Speaker 3 (42:20):
Him he's an excellent pass, rusher SO i think if
he checks out health, WISE i think you know what
you're getting a little bit more With. Carter BUT i
Think hunter gives you some interesting problems going both ways.
There SO i think a lot of that has to
do with The carter and kind of what the medical
show there. All, Right, Tony i'm gonna adjust this question
from at Big dash knows a little, bit BECAUSE i
(42:41):
think we know the answer to his. Questions i'll have
you rank. Instead let's say all four our hits in the,
league what position has the biggest impact for the team
that drafts. Him, edge, cornerback wide receiver or. Quarterback obviously
you know quarterback is number? One how would you rank
the next? Three edge corner and wide.
Speaker 1 (43:01):
Receiver corner cornerback is always a priority position because you
need so many of. It BUT i think if you
have all, players if you have three players at the
position that are equally, graded you have the same grades on.
Them you're looking at edge, rusher, cornerback then, receiver although it's.
Interchangeable you, know some people would say some teams would, say,
(43:24):
no we want that, big dominant. Receiver but, still, AGAIN
i go back to WHAT i said before About Abdul.
Carter everybody in you, know twenty twenty five years ago
was looking for that impact defensive, player and that impact
defensive player comes from the edge, rusher comes from the
guy that can rush the. Passer some will, say you,
know Ah Al, davis if you get that big corner
(43:45):
that can cover a third of the, field, well then
you got two thirds of the field where you've got
a few other. Guys you know that is more. Important
it's only the eye of the. Beholder for, me it
would be edge, rusher it would be that impact defensive
player up.
Speaker 3 (43:58):
Front i'm with, you AND i would put offensive tackle
in there right after those big people that can move
like they are the rarest people defined in these. Drafts
so it would be edge then offensive tackle for, me
and just with, You.
Speaker 1 (44:14):
Just to go, back you, know before it came became quarterback,
crazy and quarterbacks were so, overdrafted offensive, tackle especially your
athletic pass blocking left, tackle was the priority position in
THE nfl, draft along with the impact defensive.
Speaker 3 (44:30):
Player, YES i would go obviously, quarterback one, edge offensive.
Tackle THEN i would go wide receiver than, corner just
BECAUSE i think corner is a very volatile position and
play can really shift from year to.
Speaker 2 (44:42):
Year all, right here we. Go this is from At
doers do.
Speaker 3 (44:46):
FOREVER i Prefer hunter at, three But carter seems more
likely given the rumors The browns are gonna Pay. Hunter
Assuming carter and no. Trades where is the best value
for offensive weapons in this? Draft tony wide, receiver running,
back tight, End while still address guard and, tackle The
giants need more offensive firepower and trench. Work who would
you target offensively and where would you go after those?
Speaker 1 (45:07):
Guys you better have like forty five picks in the
draft to answer all those. NEEDS i, mean, obviously as
we've spoken, about running back is the strongest position in the,
Draft so you're gonna be able to get a good
running back in round, two in round, three in round,
four round. Five there's also a lot of good tight
ends in this, draft as you know if you watched
(45:29):
early in the. SHOW i think the tight ends that
go In day two could be the best tight ends
to come out of the. Draft we didn't even talk
About Mason. TAYLOR i think that when it comes to,
receivers there are good receivers in this, draft but you're
looking at more number threes and number, fours where In day,
two even the opening part Of day, three you could
potentially get a starting running back or starting tight. End
(45:51):
as far as the offensive guards to, CONCERN i like
the interior offensive line. POSITION a lot of college tackles
are gonna be offensive guards at the next, level and
it's also a good defensive tackle. Class but, again what
type of defensive tackle do you want do you? Want
do you want the, big wide bodied gap, occupier space
eater or do you want that, quick explosive one gap
(46:15):
three technique. Type you'll be able to get good players
day three in the, draft although they are more rotational.
Players remember we've talked about this couple times on the.
Show this is going to be a deep draft late
in the draft because this is the LAST covid. Year
so you've got a lot of, fifth, sixth seven year
guys who've played a lot of college football in this.
(46:35):
Draft and what that means is is you're going to
have fifth players with fifth round grades going the sixth,
round sixth round grades going the seventh, round seventh round
grades not even get drafted at.
Speaker 2 (46:45):
All, WELL i think you'll get, Value. TONY i think
it's a good.
Speaker 3 (46:51):
QUESTION i think running, back you can get a really
good player still at the top of round four and
feel good about. IT i think for tight, END i
think the really good guys will be gone by the
top of round, Three so that might be your goal
there for that.
Speaker 2 (47:08):
Wide.
Speaker 3 (47:08):
RECEIVER i like This day two, class SO i think
you could probably use a third round pick on a wide.
Receiver If giants have that early third round, pick you
and get a good player in that. Spot, GUARD i
would worry about waiting too, Long, tony to be honest with,
YOU i think you probably have to pick one at
either sixty four or ninety nine if you're a ninety,
five if you The, giants if you want to get you,
know a.
Speaker 2 (47:27):
Guy you feel good about starting right.
Speaker 3 (47:29):
Away if it's a developmental, guy, yeah you can wait
till till Till day, three and then defensive. TACKLE i
think top round three is an ideal spot for. That
you're gonna have good guys left on the. Board if
one of the top guys, drop you can get him
at the top round.
Speaker 2 (47:43):
Two that's.
Speaker 3 (47:43):
Great BUT i do think once you get out of
The Grant Derek, harmon that type Of Walter nolan, group
you get a little bit of a drop, off AND
i think you can wait till the top.
Speaker 2 (47:54):
Round three if you want to go attack that defensive tackle. Position.
Speaker 1 (47:57):
Again, well here are My day three. Guards Yali, Rodgers Texas,
tech who played, tackle who was terrific in the in
the in the in the senior, Ball Jalen, Rivers miami Of,
Florida Jackson, Slater Sacramento, State Clay, Webb Jacksonville, State Miles,
Frasier Joshua. Gray SO i think there'll be some decent
(48:18):
players there in the interior offensive line, position and some
of those, Guys Jackson slater as well As Joshua gray
are projected to be centers On.
Speaker 2 (48:28):
Sunday all, right let's go to the next question.
Speaker 3 (48:31):
Here let's go to the fourth round one oh, five
thinking offensive line for The. Giants what would be a
good value and realistic option? HERE i think you already
just touched on that day three, guards so we already
answered that. Question what value players could there be in
around four or five at the skill positions on?
Speaker 2 (48:49):
Offense running, back tight, end wide. Receiver who do you
like in that range at those?
Speaker 1 (48:52):
Spots, well running? Back you, know what do you? Say round?
Four i'm? Sorry four or? Five? Right? Okay where Is
Jordan james Of oregon? GOE i Mean Jordan james could
fall in the fourth. ROUND i think he'd be great value.
There Ty, felton the receiver From, maryland third round type,
player but eventually some of these guys you're gonna get
pushed into the fourth. Round Key Andrey Lambert smith Of
(49:15):
auburn By, Way Penn. State there's a guy that for
whatever reason has basically fallen by the. Wayside tested incredibly
well to, combine caught the ball very well At auburn last.
Year you know where Does Jalen nowell Of Iowa state
this heat fall into the fourth? Round Tess, johnson we
mentioned La Quin. Allen you'll be able to get good
(49:36):
players at either, position, fourth fifth round.
Speaker 2 (49:39):
Area how about tight ends date? Three who do you like?
Speaker 3 (49:42):
That?
Speaker 1 (49:43):
Oh, well you KNOW i Mentioned Aronde. YATSON i Mentioned
Joshua simon Of South. Carolina If Joshua simon is there
in day, three ALTHOUGH i have a what DO i
have about? Him right? NOW i have a fourth? ROUND
i have a fourth round great on. Him Harrold. Fannon
is he going to Go day two or could he
slide into the fourth? Round Thomas, FEDONI i mean a
(50:03):
guy who needs some. Development he's not going to be
A week one starter for, you but could be a
real good player down the. ROAD i mentioned A Randy
Aronde gatson who could be very likely gonna be a
day three, player ALTHOUGH i have a third round pick on.
Him later on Mentioned Carter runyon as far as my underrated,
guys And benjamin you're a. Sec played incredibly, well played
(50:24):
well At. Georgia didn't played incredibly well because they threw
the ball down the field of. Receivers came From. Stanford
was a past catching machine At. Stanford excellent. Size RAN
i believe four to six' four at his pro da
at two hundred and forty, two pounds six foot four
gonna be a late. Round guy seventh rounder could excellent.
Value there, all right now we're.
Speaker 3 (50:43):
Getting answered some non giant questions here at wide. Nine
giants how Much Of jalen milroe's deficiencies were from. The
system if it, isn't broken don't. Fix it hate the too,
commonly Comparison But josh allen had a lot of erradic throws.
In college any parallels to draw, From, THERE.
Speaker 1 (51:02):
Well, i mean it's kind of funny because you're talking
To A jylen milroe. GUY here i thought that the
switchover Probably Hurt, jylen milroe the Switchover from saban's offensive
savings staff to the. NEW staff i also think the
fact that AND again. I apologize you should know the
name by now the quarterback Coach, Of, washington michael Who
(51:22):
Coached michael pennix Went to seattle for. A year now He's,
at ALABAMA so i think He was alabama. Last year
probably would Have Helped. JALN milroe i do think that
there's some legitimate legitimacy to, that question to, that, concern well,
you know it was a transfer from saban to a
new coaching staff that Dad hurt jaylen MILROLL row i would,
(51:44):
say Yes but I'm A jaylen. Milroe supporters i'm a
little bit biased for.
Speaker 3 (51:49):
The guy, very Good any i'm NOT sure i think
his issues are Separate. From Josh josh allen was, just
accuracy straight up all over. The place miro's a little,
bit different. All Right, bob ussulman some buzz about a
few teams trading back into the. First round you can
talk about them if, You want, Tony two but who
do you feel might be candidates within the top ten
(52:10):
you might want to trade back a.
Speaker 2 (52:11):
Few, slots.
Speaker 1 (52:14):
Wait we're trading back in a few slots for if
he's in. Top, TEN okay i, UNDERSTAND now, i mean
you know THE way i see it. RIGHT now i
don't know that you're gonna be able to trade back
for any guys except For maybe Shid. OR sanders, i
mean how far back can you Trade For michel Williams Or?
(52:35):
Jalb walker how far back can you Trade For? Mason
graham so it seems pretty cemented. UP top i don't
know that, you know you've got to be CAREFUL because
i think if, you, say well we're gonna trade back
And Get, mason grant he could. BE gone, i mean
if he's not gone By The, Jack jaguars bik's gonna.
Be Gone the raiders will probably scoop. Him up so,
(52:56):
YOU know i think it's more of a maybe a
team trading up because there they Think That tyler warren
may not drop to. Their spot team trading up because
they want to get one of those offensive linemen and
ensure Themselves With. Calvin BANKS but i don't think those
either of those guys except For maybe warren or top.
Speaker 2 (53:15):
Ten picks, all right let's go To at andrew on.
Speaker 3 (53:17):
The score nevin's what do you think the range Ins
For josh simmons or the good teams later in the
first round better position to take him to give him
some time to recover or are they into complete into
compete now mode and when fewer guys with health and.
Speaker 2 (53:30):
Recovery, questions well we'll, find.
Speaker 1 (53:32):
OUT right, i mean if a team takes them in
the middle of the, first round, you know they think
that he's gonna come be on the Field. In september
they expect them to be on the Field in september
to compete for. A spot i Have The Kansas city chiefs.
TAKING him i mean their offensive line is. A, DISASTER
yeah i know They Signed, jalen MILROE but i think
(53:52):
Even Signing, jalen milroe You Bring josh, simmons in you
will give him. SOME time, i mean the answer to
the question is we're gonna see on. DRAFT night, i
mean one team TO watch i guess would Be The
houston texans who need a. Left tackle do they Look At.
Josh shimmons do They Take, josh connerly, you know to
fill that left. Tackle spot that would be one area
(54:14):
earlier on Maybe the rams Selected after, SO no i
would be surprised if he goes earlier.
Speaker 2 (54:23):
Than that, all right let's go to AT book.
Speaker 3 (54:25):
D two with all the talk about defensive interior and
defensive tackle depth in, this draft how do you distinguish
these prospects in terms, of, height weight scheme and suitability
for a team Like? The, GIANTS look i think it
depends What the giants are looking forward that they don't
want a bigger run stuff for Next With.
Speaker 2 (54:40):
Dexter lawrence they want.
Speaker 3 (54:41):
Upfield guy and that's how you separate, These, Right tony
or do you want to, you know is it the
one you know zero to one technique or is it
the three to five? Technique guys is it the guys
that are three twenty to three thirty of the guys
that are two ninety five to three.
Speaker 2 (54:53):
Ozho five that's how you separate.
Speaker 3 (54:55):
This group and the good thing about, This, class tony
is you got plenty of guys in both.
Speaker 2 (54:58):
Those, camps yeah let's look.
Speaker 1 (55:00):
At two guys in the, Third Round Olmar norman Lot
from tennessee six and a half and ninety One.
Speaker 2 (55:05):
Pounds Kelly real.
Speaker 3 (55:07):
Quick unlocked do you take a lot out of the
fact that his listed weight was like twenty five pounds
heavier than what he weighed at?
Speaker 1 (55:13):
The? Combine, no no because he played even if. It
was he was INCREDIBLY explosive i mean, on film he's
not a. HEAVY guy i mean he's an explosive first
step guy that was able to penetrate, the gaps get
behind the line of scrimmage and make plays and disrupt the,
action route whether it was socking the quarterback or making
a tackle. For loss and then on top, of him
(55:35):
You Got jordan phillips six one and a half three
hundred and twelve three hundred and fifteen pounds more of
your zero technique nose tackle type who did exactly That.
At maryland didn't have. Great production it gets be rated
because of the lack of, the production but if you watch,
the film he was occupying two blockers at a time
to allow his teammates to make plays on. The ball
(55:56):
although he did show some pass, rushing skills some. Athletic
ability you try and both practices when we. Were there I'LL.
Speaker 3 (56:02):
Throw cj west into that the run stuffing defensive tackle
group in round three, as well, all right and EVEN.
Speaker 1 (56:08):
Even, cj west what do? You run he ran like
four nine five at. The, combine yeah he is athleticism.
Speaker 3 (56:13):
Short arms though Him and phillips are both shorter players six,
to one both like thirty two. Inch Arms So norman
lott has like almost thirty four. In charms just to
give you, an example a guy that you mentioned a little.
Speaker 2 (56:23):
Bit earlier, All right lion cares zero.
Speaker 3 (56:26):
Twenty five Given the giants needs for offenses and added,
secondary depth wouldn't make more sense For the giants to
go off For a cleveland for a trade up to
two To. Grab, HUNTER well i Don't think cleveland's gonna
want to, Trade. DOWN tony i think they're gonna have
their guy. They want they're gonna. Take Them so i'm
not sure there's anything to give him to make.
Speaker 1 (56:41):
That, MOVE yeah I mean. I would I mean i
have my Concerns about hunter in. The secondary guy never backpedaled.
In college you know he's got a lot. Of upside,
but again in, my opinion go back TO what i
Said About abdul carter earlier in the question segment impact
defensive player guy. Up front when you get Players Like
ad calrter up front who can rush, the passer it
(57:02):
makes life in your secondary a lot easier and it
will mask errors in.
Speaker 3 (57:06):
Your secondary at seven underscore coops two More questions tony
from a roster perspective and, starting defense wouldn't it make
sense To the giants the draft And Start mason graham
the line up next to decks rather Than Drafting. Abdul
carter how far apart for you are the two prospects?
Speaker 2 (57:22):
Grade wise?
Speaker 1 (57:24):
They're significant and when you start drafting for need to
start plugging holes and you buy pass you know. Terrific
players what happens is two or three years down, the
road there's hindsight and, you're, like well why didn't We Draft?
Abdil carter why do We Take mason graham And Bypass.
Abdull CARTER so I Think abdull carter is such a
good prospect as, an airgdresher as a guy who can
(57:47):
play off the line and playing space on third down of.
Passing situations if you want him to just go back
and look at the twenty twenty Three Film mason Graham's
Good mason. GRAHAM'S intense i Think That mason graham is
physically more tapped out or basically has reached closer to
his limit, than Say Have, doul carter who's got great upside.
Speaker 3 (58:10):
With you, ON that i could not Agree more in the, Top,
three tony you, pick players you do not. Pick positions
you want to. Lead players don't worry about the fits. All,
Right Finally big dogs, and you by, the way you
can always find a way to get edge rushers on.
The field you're not gonna have any problem doing That
At big dogs. Thirteen eighteen, Final, question tony what would
you like to See the jets.
Speaker 2 (58:29):
Do in rounds one?
Speaker 3 (58:29):
And two and what would be your ideal picks and
if there is a surprise player that maybe they could
trade back.
Speaker 2 (58:35):
And target.
Speaker 1 (58:37):
My ideal pick For the jets would Be armand membo
right with that first pick to play. Right tackle they
need a. RIGHT tackle, I mean membo is a guy
who's got. Tremendous upside the last two year game the
last two years is game Film at missouri was terrific
and it got better tested off the charts At. The combine,
AND yeah i know you can only put so much
(58:58):
into guys running around on shorts AND a. T shirt
but at three hundred and thirty, two pounds this CAT
and i wrote, about this looked like a sprinter on the.
Football FIELD so i think they fill a position with
a guy who can start early in his career at.
RIGHT tackle i think. SECOND round i like An wiser
arroya a guy that can get down the field and
make plays at the tight, end position which is an
(59:19):
area of need For. The jets some people Have Said. Mason,
TAYLOR okay i can't Understand because taylor brings more as,
a blocker he just doesn't have the downfield Juices term
john likes to use all the time Compared. To arroya,
you know if they, trade down what are they trading.
DOWN for I mean i think that. THEY would i
(59:41):
think they could trade down if they get a large package.
Of picks maybe you look at a tight end, Later
on maybe you look at one of the offensive tackles.
Later on maybe you look at a receiver, later On.
And mecchabuka you pair them up with Another Former ohio state,
the receiver but it's going to have to be a.
Speaker 2 (59:58):
Significant, package tony, good stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
My friend uh we talked about what you're gonna have
