Speaker 1 (00:03):
At least he's the Drive with Dale Lolly and Matt
Williamson on your twenty four to seven home of the
Black and Gold cast in Steelers Nation Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
And welcome back to our number two of the Drive
here on the Steelers Audio Network.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
I am Dale Lolly.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
He is the Matt Williamson except no imitations, and Matt
are penultimate.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
Who drive mock draft. I urged someone to go back
and say how many did we do and tally them
all up. You guys took Kenneth Grant twenty eight percent
of the time you got.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
You know, I don't do that people, Yeah, don't do that.
That would waste way too much of your time. But
we've done a lot of them.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
We've done a lot.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
We've given you a lot of different options. We've gone
through a lot of different scenarios. We've picked at twenty one.
We've moved back, we've moved out of the first round.
We've traded picks future picks to move back up into
the second round.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
We've never traded up in the first round. We have not,
which I'm glad we didn't waste any time doing that
because that's not gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
I don't think it's gonna happen, right, They're not trading
with the Cowboys twelve.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
That's not the trade that's brewing. No, I don't believe so.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Anyways, So we're using the Pro Football Focus mock drafter
today because it's easier and we're up at twenty one, OK.
And we do have some trade offers, one of which
is the one that we've kind of talked about here
today a little bit more, or one that I think
they should consider. The Houston Texans are on them.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
They definitely seem like a candidate that could come up
for O line help or even a receiver like if
Golden or McMillan went, and they only like those two.
And the beauty of it is they traded Tonsoul. They've
got a lot of mid round, liquid type picks, and
they have some extra ones next year too, so they
don't mind throwing stuff in.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yeah, so here, I mean, so if you look at
it from their standpoint, the guys who are still available
are Matthew, Golden, Gray's Abel, Josh Connery. Because the picks
that went right ahead of us were Josh Simmons and
offensive tackle.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
I would start to panic if I were.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
That and a Mecca BUCA wide receiver. Exactly perfect scenario.
Can they wait four more picks and have more of
these guys taking off the board, and.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Especially if they only want the tackle right like Zabel,
would be great for him. But I think they like
their center, you know.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Yeah, So I'm gonna explore this with the Houston Texans.
We're only moving back four spots. I'd say they're twenty five, right, they're.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Twenty five now they have twenty five, fifty eight, seventy
nine and eighty nine. Fifty eight should be hard to
pry it with. They're not gonna We're not gonna get
fifty eight. Fan, we'd have to throw in our third.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
But out you know, if you're gonna get me one
of those two threes?
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Oh, what's to move back? Enough to move back four spots?
I'm good? Yeah, me too. I just want more on
day two. Yes, So my recommendation, I don't know if
it'll fly, is I would ask for one of the
threes and a little sugar, you know, like turn our
seven into a fifth or give me a future fifth.
(03:02):
And they might say no, but you know, just push it
a little. You like to push the back. I do well.
The worst I say is no, And you know, deep
down you're gonna you already have a deal in place.
You're gonna get one of the threes.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
So here's what I've offered, twenty one and one eighty five.
Kay for twenty five, seventy nine and one sixty six.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
Cool, Okay, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Yeah, mid round,
move up fifteen spots that you might be thrilled about.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
So this is saying, right now, there's a fifty percent
chance that will be accepted.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
Flip that coin. Boom, Okay, we got a little shit,
we got right. We now have seven picks in the draft.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yes, we moved up in the sixth round, which actually
happens one sixty six might be.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
A fifth round. I think that's five.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Okay, but we got we got our Day two pick,
and we get we moved back four spots in the
first round, right, right, mission accomplished, right, And they came
up to get well, actually they came up to get
Kenneth Grant, which is an ideal not what we wanted,
but okay, but the next pick was Omri and Hampton.
I don't love that. Then Malachi Starks and Nick Amy
(04:12):
Warre go back to back.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Okay, so two of the four would have been of interest.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Yeah, it does narrow things down a bit for us.
Here are the players available, Walter Nolan, Great Shadoor Sanders. Okay,
that's kind of it with the two the players that
I would be interested in taking them.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Well, considering Sanders, Nolan, Grant and Hampton were all available
at twenty one. This is why you move four spots,
not eight.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
So then the question becomes, do you take Walter Nolan
or do you take Shador Sanders at twenty five?
Speaker 3 (04:52):
For me, that's an easy decision. It's Nolan, I mean,
an easy decision. I understand both sides, but I'm not
paid to just say, oh, either's fine. I have an opinion.
I would take no one. Yeah, we could do either.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
My question to myself would then be I would have
to ask myself, do I think with pick seventy nine
and eighty three I can get defensive linemen.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Who are as good as Walter Nolan? No? And my
answer is no, No, Like I think he's here, guys,
I like, yeah, but not it's not Cam Hayward's replacement.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Yeah, And then I would have to ask myself the
same question about the quarterbacks. Do I think that there's
a guy who would be available there that I would
be willing to say, Okay, he might be.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
The future starter mil Row and Chakra the two. But
what's different about asking those two questions, in my opinion,
is I can leave this draft without a top March quarterback, right.
I can't leave this draft without a top match defensive lineman. Yeah,
I hear you. You know what I mean? Yeah, need
is different than the other, not greater, but different because
(06:05):
quarterbacks its own beast. Yeah, if I like Sanders better,
let's say, it's an easy answer, I'd take Sanders, right,
And that's the thing. Yeah, if he was a fifteen
percent better prospect, I'd be like, well, you take the quarterback.
You always take the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
The only other question I would have then, what about
Travon Henderson? What I consider Travion Henderson at twenty five?
Speaker 3 (06:26):
I don't want to speak for you. I'm not trying
to be argumentative. I have a hard time using the
first pick on Henderson or Hampton. I get it, they
would play a lot, they might go to Pro Bowls
like crazy. They're both really good fits. But man, the
guys that are going to be there in the third
and fourth round are good. I mean, it's just such
(06:46):
a deep class for that, and it's just not a
premium position. I like the players, it's nothing they did wrong.
And I'm not a running backs don't matter kind of guy,
and I bet they have a lot of interest in
both those dudes, as they should. But man, I think
Nolan changes things.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Okay, Walter Nolan, it is I'm gonna pause again. Here
we're at pick forty five. I just want to see
if any of those running backs have gone.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
They have not.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Oh wait, Travon Henderson went at thirty seven. Henderson went
at thirty seven. So now we're it picked forty four.
Let it run from.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
Hampton still there. No, Hampton's gone. He went before. Oh
Hampton won ahead over Okay, okay.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
We're now twenty five picks out from our draft pick.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
And look, I don't know who i'd give you extra
for at this point.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Yeah, none of the none of the other guys have
gone yet, but Darius Alexander just did.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
Yeah, liked them, but they got a similar player.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
Yeah, we're a pick fifty four we got although it
got down to seventy nine. Now we're within fifteen picks.
So the end of the second round, Cam Scatigbo and
Quinshawn Judkins were both selected. Okay, do we make a
move up to go get Johnson?
Speaker 3 (08:15):
I like Johnson more than Scataboo. I wouldn't give a
lot more, though.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Would he be a guy that you would trade, say
seventy nine in a future fourth to go get.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
That was what I was on top of my mind.
It was like, we have so many future picks. If
you think this guy's your lead back and as a
thousand yard rusher year after year and a scheme fit,
I think that's worth it to move up at that
portion of the draft such for a future four that
you're gonna get. You're gonna have two fours next year.
It doesn't hurt too much.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Yeah, so that has a forty six percent chance of
being accepted.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
And he is on the board. Yes, I would be
fine with that. I don't love trading up to the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Yeah, the Eagles did not accept that. I'm gonna go
down to I'm gonna go to sixty five. Okay, we'll
see if the Giants will accept the same deal.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
They did not.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
How about the Chiefs sixty six? For seventy five and
next year's fourth. That was accepted. So now we just
have to hope that the Eagles and the Giants don't
take Cam Johnson. Oh okay, So we didn't run it
to that point, you can't. Yeah, what you're saying, I
got you, all right, I'm gonna resume they did not.
(09:33):
But the Giants did take Jylen Milroe at sixty five.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Okay, which would make sense. Okay, so we grabbed Johnson.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
Yeah, yeah, Caleb Johnson is the pick at at sixty six.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Now, great, we.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Probably I don't know if we would have gotten him
or not at seventy nine.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
Right, but because we traded down and all it really
cost us was the future fourth and we had picked
up stuff. Anyways, in the first deal basically is would
you trade even right now? Would you trade twenty one
and eighty three for Nolan and Johnson? I think I would.
I think I would. Yeah, And we did that and
got a little more right, you know what I mean? Yeah,
(10:12):
and made a little something on the side.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
All right, we are now up at pick eighty three.
Top players available. Demetrius Knight, the linebacker out of South Carolina.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
CJ.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
West, the nose tackle out of Indiana. Xavier Estrepo the
wide receiver from Miami. Damian Martinez running back from Miami,
Chris Paul linebacker from Mississippi, Terrence Ferguson tight end from Oregon.
Elijah Roberts, ed rusher out of SMU, Jared Wilson center
(10:43):
out of Georgia, Latham Ransom safety out of Ohio State.
Vernon Broughton, defensive lineman out of Texas. Wyatt Millam the
offensive lineman out of West Virginia. Jordan Phillips is there
if you want to get a nose.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
The nose nose Wes has been my favorite so far,
but I was curious what other.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
Noses or the Charles Grant is there, the offensive lineman
out of William and Mary.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
I have some interest in Millium and Grant.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Anthony Belton, the offensive lineman at NC State. Save On Williams,
the wide receiver at a TCU is there. Jamari Caldwell
is there.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
About to ask it is called would you take Caldwell
over West or Phillips.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
That's an interesting discussion and we're a little different. I've
been asked about that. How am we stacked in those
those mid rounds.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
I've never had to do it.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
Yeah, it's and it's it's what do you so Phillips
doesn't give you any pass rush at all.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
No, he's a wrestler power, middle of the field, maybe developed.
I mean, I'm not sure it's not in his body
or his future, but he hasn't done it. He had
no sacks whatsoever in Maryland. None. I mean that's he's
never gonna be a high sack. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
He's more the Casey Hampton type that I'm just going
to eat up block after block and my inside linebackers
are going to love me.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Yeah. Him and Fraser going to wrestle like crazy camp.
You beat the crap out of each other.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Right, Caldwell to me, gives you a little bit more
pass rush, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
I think he gets off the ball batter's Hargrave in
terms of he's got that quick first step and right right,
he's kind of looks kind of jiggly, but he can move.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
Yeah. The jiggle part doesn't matter. Yeah, but he's active. Yeah.
And West is kind of in between those guys. Yes,
I would say he's in between. He's probably not as
good a run stuff or he's not as good as
pass rusher. It's not like Caldwell's a zero gains right either.
I mean that's a still job number one for all
of them. Yeah, I think Phillips is last.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
I think so too, just because I don't know that
that guy that that type of player.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
I'm not sure it's a third round he.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Plays more than like thirty five percent of the snaps
because he's never gonna play on Nickel and dime.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
I could probably take y'all y'all black in the fifth
or sixth, right, and I could do that instead and
do the same thing. There's a thirty three year old
on the street right now. I could get to do that. Yeah,
I think Phillips could turn. I'd love him to be
a Steeler. Yeah, but I think i'd I mean, much
more comfort with him the fourth. Yeah, well there is
three on the board, dude, there are three, and just.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
Well, we don't pick again until one twenty three, so
that's forty picks away. I don't know that we're going
to get one.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
Of those guys. Do you prefer called Well or West?
Speaker 2 (13:22):
I think that what the Steelers are looking for is
more called Well than West.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
I think there's a a day where he might be
on the field in nickel. It's not the best thing
you'd have, Hayward, and but maybe you have an injury
in game. Yeah, he's gotta go out there and play.
This team's getting you in your nickel and they're running.
Yeah yeah, yeah, that was a problem last year. Yeah right,
I'm fine with him. We draft them a lot, but
(13:47):
we do because we like them.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
We like them, and well they brought him in for
a visit. Yeah yeah, yeah, they like him too. I
can't they didn't bring in Phillips or West. No, although
they should know all about West because I.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
Think he was a Mac guy.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Yeah yeah, Okay, Maryland connections. We didn't take harmon this time,
so we can't room with Okay, we're up at one
twenty three.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
We got a back in two d Lineman.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
That all we got, Yeah, I guess so, yeah, all right,
uh so we're up here. The Jonas Sanker, the safety
out of Virginia, Billy Bowman, safety out of Oklahoma, Benjamin
your Check's tight end out of Georgia.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
I'm a fan. I just don't know if you have
a tight end.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
Ear Will Howard, the quarterback out of Ohio State, Jeffrey
bassa linebacker from Oregon, Mellow Dotson, cornerback from Kansas, Riley Leonard,
quarterback from Notre Dame, Miles Frasier the guard from LSU.
Ahmaud Hassen edge out of Boise State, Cameron Jackson the
(14:54):
nose tackle of.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
That's where it would ended up.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
Yeah, Jarquois Hunter, the running back out of Auburn. Jalen Reid,
safety out of Penn State. Josh Farmer, Ah, that'd been
nice to know. Yeah, defensive lineman out of Florida State.
He's not a nose nose though.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
He plays a lot of three techniques too. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
Yeah, Justin Wally the cornerback out of Minnesota. Jaden Blue,
running back out of Texas. Tess Johnson, wide receiver out
of Oregon, Rishard Smith the running back out of SMU,
Dylan Fairchild, guard out of Georgia. I think this sets
up to take one of those guards.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
I would say, Fraser, Fairchild and Wally we're the ones that, Yeah,
piqued my interest, and I think I'd rather go O
line than than Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
We're talking about a future starter here, as opposed to
a guy that's going to be a depth piece, a cornerback,
So you got really you have Fraser Fairchild.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
They kind of stand alone the nice picks here. Yeah,
and you're probably a starter a year for now. Yeah,
in the fourth round. That's that's great, that's fantastic. Right.
And I thought McCormick wasn't going to play last year,
and he sure did. He sure did right, Right, And
you're happy you had him exactly either as cool with me.
I really think they're very equal.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
One thing I want to look at is they have
him or the ages. So Fraser is twenty three point six.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
I think Fairchild's young. He's a raw player, but maybe
that's because he's at Georgia and didn't get the start
because he's good. Guys, hasn't turned twenty two yet. Okay,
that adds that's kind of a tie breaker for me.
I think he's a little more physically gifted too. Fraser's gifted,
but he has small hands and he's not as prototypical.
Fairchild just doesn't have a ton of tape.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
Yeah fair Child, Fairchild, Yeah, you take the I think
if it's close, you take the younger player.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Yeah, especially don't play on playing, especially on on the
on the lines.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
Yeah, because they're you know, a guy like they physically
developed a lot more. Yeah, Fraser at almost twenty four
is just about what he's going to be to you know,
in terms of string and things of that nature. Where's Fairchild.
There's a room to grow.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
Not that I would know the numbers. I'm just throwing
us out there to prove a point. He might be
a four hundred bench guy now and this time next
year he's four twenty five. Yeah, you know what I mean,
and all across the board he's just a little bit
more physically developed.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
Yeah, So Dylan Fairchild, I like that. Yeah, that's a
that's a nice value, nice value pick.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
Right.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
All right, we got another one coming up at one
fifty six and Riley Leonard still there. Interesting Seth McLaughlin
the center out of Ohio State. Jordan Hancock the safety
out of Ohio State.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
I think he's more than a safety though.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
Yeah, I think so too. Robert Longer Beamed, the cornerback
out of Rutgers.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
Don't dislike him, He's got some yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
L Pat Bryant the wide receiver from Illinois Zia. Alexander
the cornerback from LSU. Ty Hamilton, defensive lineman from Ohio state.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
We've gone there twice. Chase Lunt, offensive tackle out of
Connectic a lot different than the guy we just drafted.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Dylan Gabe, quarterback out of Oregon. Quinn Yours, quarterback out
of Texas.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
Quarterbacks are super exciting to me, the logic and drafting one,
but part of me is just like, if the best
they're going to turn into Rudolph, I have Rudolph. True enough,
Wincey Riley is still there. Corners and receivers seemed interesting,
especially the corner group. Cal McCord is still there though. Okay, again,
(18:25):
I understand it. I'd love to have a rookie in camp,
but one that can turn into Rudolph that's on a
two year deal. Isn't his appealing to me as a
corner that might be a starter in two years? You know? Yeah?
And I know we just went out of line. But
(18:46):
Lunt to me is a really good scheme fit and
a pure tackle that's six' eight that this they don't
grow on. Trees, Yeah mover needs get stronger.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
Too hancock to me is interesting, too because, yeah he
was their nickel.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
AND i think he's kind of like their defensive. Leader
does it? All he plays a lot of. SLOT i
THINK i don't know what a snap. Count, Oh i'm
pretty sure he plays a. Lot over four hundred snaps
in the slot the last two. Seasons, yeah And i'm
not sure he's a zero as an outside corner. EITHER
i mean HE'S i think he's a good. PLAYER i
think he tested great from WHAT i.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
Remember he's got, size he's six. Pounds, yeah he's different
from the slots that you have.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
Very And i'm not sure he's just a. SLOT i
know SOME i think he's.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
MISCASTING i think that's what he would be initially, initially,
Right like he would be your big.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
Slot Like beanie wouldn't be happy we drafted. Him, No
beanie's not stopping me from drafting, again. EXACTLY i got
to know any be a demon on special. TEAMS i
think that's huge, too do. IT i don't know we've ever.
DRAFT i don't think we've drafted him at. All And
i'm always every time you mentioned him when it's this
time of, draft, Like, OH i like, him he. Said
(19:55):
the problem is they call him a, safety BUT i
think he's a corner that can play.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
Safe, yeah think that's the he got because the majority
of his snaps the last two years have come in
the nickel, spot like he played two hundred snaps last year.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
Deep safety For themable he's four. Hundred you, KNOW i
think he's more Like. Sutton, yeah, YEAH i mean With Martin,
capable like those kind of. Guys, Yeah William Gay, sutton
going down the list of. Guys, right all, right we
are now up at one sixty. Six we got two picks,
left one sixty six and two twenty. Nine now quarterback
(20:29):
here doesn't bother me as.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
Much, yeah, Well Dylan gabriel's air Quin ers is, there cal,
McCord Curtis rourke.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
All would be fine with. Me their receiver of interest
probably usually.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
Not, yeah you're looking At Andrew armstrong From, Arkansas Samuel
brown From, Miami Elijah badger From.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Florida Kind of growing fond Of, badger But i'm not
going to jump on it down For, yeah that's just
because you're, cool. Dude, no you Like badger because of
breaking bad. Eh, yeah that's. Good, ANYWAYS i think you
just take a quarterback. Here that's.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Fine you're gonna take one in the camp and see
what's see what's available.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
Later let's let's take my court. Again, YEAH i like
McCord a. LOT i wish work was. Healthy, yeah that's
kind of say that's a. Roadblock all. Right two twenty.
Nine we are. Up we can take anything we. Want,
yeah this could be blocking tight. END i mean it
could be whatever you.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
Want top players, Available max And hook the safety out Of.
TOLEDO i don't think we could take a. Safety Curtis,
rourke the quarterback From. Indiana caleb brand saw safety at
until another.
Speaker 3 (21:40):
ONE i, Like, Yeah Drew.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
Kendall the center out Of Boston College.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
Center only it's gonna be tough for, Him yeah for.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Me Rayon lane the safety at A. Navy Max brosmer
the quarterback From. Minnesota Dean clark safety AT A. Fred
i'm seeing the trend.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
Here.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
Yeah Jalen, conyers tight end out Of Texas, tech BUT
i don't know much about.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Them Junior Tafana uh defensive lineman out Of. Utah Taj
brooks running back out Of Texas deck not so. Bad Jimmy,
horn wide receiver From. Colorado Raheem sanders running back From South.
Carolina Jalen smith the cornerback out OF. Usc John Quavius
(22:25):
marks the running back FROM. Usc LeQuinn Allen is There Cam,
horsley defensive lineman From Boston, College Ricky, white wide receiver
out OF u nlvay on special?
Speaker 3 (22:38):
Teams? Yeah, say is there any wide out that can
run or has traits or in this case can play?
Teams probably is a practice? Squad did we do? That?
Yeah any other?
Speaker 2 (22:49):
Receivers let me take a look here at the receiver
position you're looking. At Jimmy horn The Oese Ephraim chisholm
out Of Eastern. Washington i've heard some good things about.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
Him, YEAH i haven't watched him and studied, them but, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
Ricky WHITE u n L, V Kobe hudson at A
u C F Lejonte wester out Of, Colorado Bo collins
From Notre, dame Uh Trey Shawn holden From.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
Oregon Either white Or chilism would be. Okay how about
a blocking tight. End chishom had one hundred and twenty
catches last. YEAR i understand.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
This. Ye, yeah but he's not real. Big he's five to,
eleven two hundred. Pounds Ricky, WHITE i think he ran
really poorly six one one. Ninety but he's a special
teams type. Guy block kicks and things of that.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Nature is our Boy hoss Or leche there.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Look much at the tight end. Position you're looking At CONYER'S.
Cj Dipp ray From. Alabama Uh Luke lachi From uh Yeahlia.
ILLA i should say, yeah big Blocking dad was the
first round. Pick stud tackle played hurt last.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
Year. White it's tough to go wrong with. Us i'm
in all, Right.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Iowa there we go With schee and our draft is.
Completed all we gave up was a fourth round pick
from last year or for next. Year, right so we
still have ten picks next.
Speaker 3 (24:26):
Year. Right we didn't add any from the next, year
but we lost a.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Fourth we moved down and Took Walter nolan it picked twenty.
Five we then Took Caleb johnson moving back into.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
This we only moved up like the camp.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
Pick, YEAH i think At Caleb johnson at sixty, Six
Jamari callball at eighty, Three Dylan, fairchild the guard out
Of georgia at one twenty, Three Jordan hancock the safety
out safety slash corner out Of Ohio state at one fifty,
Six colin McCord quarterback From syracuse it won sixty, six
And luke like let's, say at two twenty, nine the
(25:02):
tight end out Of.
Speaker 3 (25:03):
Iowa a lot of big physical Guys. LINEMAN i think
it's a future guard in, there the future starting. Guard. Yeah,
again take one. EXTRA i like. IT i like it.
Again BUT i don't mind losing the fourth rounder next.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
Year, no because we picked We, actually what we really
did was we traded the fourth round pick for the
third round, pick more or. Less more or less because
we only moved back four, spots.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Especially if we would have taken an old into twenty one,
anyway right, RIGHT i mean that's exactly what we, did
so we're in, reality we moved up with that fourth
round pick to assure that we Got. Johnson, yeah the top.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
Back AND i really think there are other backs in
this draft THAT i. Like, yeah but there's four or
five THAT i. Like you get one of those, guys
he's going to be your bell.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
COW i think After, johnson it's a little. Different, yeah you,
know like some of them will hit Maybe touton Or
martinez or one of those, guys they'd be. GREAT i
hope they. Are, yeah BUT i Think Caleb, JOHNSON i,
know is going to. Hit the Two Ohio state fans, Guys,
Johnson hampton And GENTE i think are probably like go
ahead Of, warren you know WHAT i, mean like their there. Dudes,
(26:12):
yeah and there's a little difference if you don't get
one of. THEM i just think he really fits the scheme,
too that's the. Thing that's the. Thing, YEAH i, mean
if we were it was two years ago, SCHEME i
don't know if he'd be as. High you, KNOW i
probably Take. JOHNKINS i kind of like that drive to,
AGAIN i don't mind losing the mid round future. Pick
would you tarry? It right?
Speaker 2 (26:30):
Now we're sitting here On saturday and this this is.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
The, thing SO i like to day a lot of big.
GUYS i THINK i probably would filled all the. Needs, yeah,
yeah you upgraded. It running. Back i'm still pretty infascinated
with What nolan could.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
Be two really good young bodies on the defensive. Line,
right we're going to play a.
Speaker 3 (26:50):
Lot that are really. DIFFERENT a little guard for to
be named. Later but we said the same thing about.
McCormick i'm pretty happy that you had. Him and it
doesn't not like, much but the safety corner. SLOT i
bet he plays in the league a long time and
it's just a useful defensive. Back.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
Yeah and the reality is that outside of Mega. Fitzpatrick
your other safeties are all free agentcy after next.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
YEAR i hadn't thought about, That so he might be
a starter next he might. Be he could be one
of your starting safeties next, year or at least in the.
Mix in the, mix he maybe is your third. Safety
you don't have to go get. One he's your dimeback or. Whatever, yeah,
yeah that's a good.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
Point, anyways let's get to a. Break when we come,
back we're going to answer your. Questions we sent out
the bat signal earlier today always. Response we'll dig into
us some listener questions when we come. Back right of,
this he Is Matt. WILLIAMSON i Am Dale. Lolly this
is a drive on The Steelers Audio.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
Network at least he's the drive With Dale lolly And
Matt williamson on your twenty four to seven home of
The black And Gold Steelers Nation.
Speaker 3 (27:58):
Radio then welcome. Back I'm Dale.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
Lolly he is The Matt williamson and well this is
the drive on The Steelers Audio. Network of, course you
can hear the drive Every monday Through friday right here
on these very. Airways you can also download The steelers mobile,
app or you can watch along on.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
YouTube give us a thumbs up on.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
There leave us your. Comments did you love our? Draft
did you hate our?
Speaker 3 (28:27):
Draft? Yeah, yeah one, more one more.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
Coming so of course you can listen to all of
our draft coverage right here as. Well no YouTube for
the draft, coverage oh, right right, Right we'll just be
available on The Steelers mobile.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
App and of course you can listen along on on all.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
Sorts of different outlets where you get the. Show preferably
download The Steelers mobile app and get it that. Way
send out the thing for. Questions earlier today on the Ex,
twitter And Brad prentiss, asked do you have any good
stories of a successful draft week fake where a team
completely fooled the media and other teams about their. INTENT
(29:05):
i can't think of Any Lake.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
PORTLES i, mean it didn't work, out he wasn't, great
but no One kuyper mcshae, schefter they hid that one.
Completely as like the fourth pick in the. Draft it's
kind of like a well known one that no one.
Saw come you say he did that With tyson And
lullu as. Well remember they, ye they Took tyson A
lulu tenth really, early and no nobody Had Tyson lulalu
(29:26):
in the first. ROUND i do know some front offices
are really good at hiding, secrets you, know and some
of them put out are known for putting out smoke,
screens and there's some people to study that, stuff you. Know.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
Uh he also, asked Is tomlin's comment about nose tackles
going the way of the full back Disqualify Kenneth grant
or Can grant be more than his traditional nose love
the shows by the, Way, Yeah Mike tomlan for Those
he did say that he was asked about nose, tackles
true nose, tackles he, said they've kind of gone the
way of the. Fullback, sure some teams play with. Fullbacks
(29:59):
that doesn't.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
Mean don't align someone on the. Nose but the old
school justly run, stuff which is what we just talked
about in our mock.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
Draft, LIKE i think those guys get bumped down a
little bit because you've got to be able to rush
the passer in today's.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
Game, yeah you need to do, more And GRANT i
think does. MORE.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
Ms if The steelers do draft a quarterback and not Sign,
rogers do you think the rookie quarterback would learn much From? Mason,
well first of, ALL i don't think that's going to,
Happen but, YES i do think they would learn things From.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
Mason oh, YEAH i think it'd be a great influence On,
sanders a dart or. Whoever you. Know, yeah He's rudolph's
a great. Guy, yeah, yeah that's not a problem at,
all not at.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
All MARCO A Romero navarro, says great work on The
steelers AND raz scores. Prospects what would be the case
for drafting prospects without OUTSTANDING rads? Scores can you think
of any Recent steelers who are great players and not
so GREAT raz.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
Scores SO i did this on another. OUTLET i wanted
to in depth About omar in these two years has
been number one amongst all gms in terms OF raz,
scores The hexa, rascore matt relative athletics. Score now it's
only been two, years two, years it's a really small
but he's number one in terms of taking the most
(31:14):
he's basically had the most athletic. Drafter that's a draftee right.
Now and it's An eagles thing, TOO i, mean and
in particular like the sixth and seventh, round The eagles
and Now steelers take shots on just super athletes and
if they Hit Jordan.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
Alatta so the funny thing about that IS i was
looking at the chart when you when.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
You tweeted it.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
Out, yeah The eagles are actually at the bottom of
the league in that the last few.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
Years last few, Years, yeah because they've taken a bunch
of big guys that doesn't. MATTER i, mean the guy
Like Jordan, davis who's athletics a bad, one, right, said,
yeah he's a bad. Round he, ran but he didn't
jump and do all that other stuff at the at
the high end of the. Spectrum. Right SO i guess
the short, ANSWER i know we've got a million questions
(32:00):
is because the top guys Are Shamar stewart and you are,
right but they're better testers than football, players Especially. Stewart
well that's the. Downside, yeah they're just a bunch of
athletes that aren't good, players you. Know you, know there's
a lot of linebackers that Are Devin white great, tester
just doesn't see it in you, know like, yeah and
(32:23):
some positions it's more important than. OTHERS i want edge
rushers that are. ATHLETES i don't care if my safety.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
IS i can't think of Any steelers who were great
players despite not great having GREAT raz.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
Scores Jarvis jones was the one you, hoped you, know
like he's kind of the counting the counter, ARGUMENT i,
Mean nause wasn't a Great nause didn't quite qualify as
he didn't. Run he didn't, run but he wouldn't have
been a GREAT raz.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
Guy, yea, yeah, right but he was again a solid, player,
right he was a bost, obviously Ed, GRUCI i think
you should try running back once in the First we've
done that a lot of time that we've done that.
Plenty So Alex rayis is about a mid round, alternatives
(33:08):
alternatives at. QUARTERBACK i like McCord And howard a, lot
would like them in the fourth fifth round, range give,
range give us your personal rankings of those quarterbacks in that,
range and give us some insights on. Them, well we
just took McCord in our mock. Draft we passed On
howard earlier than.
Speaker 3 (33:23):
That.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
Yeah first of, ALL i don't think you're Getting howard
in the fifth.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
ROUND i don't, either And i'm not willing to use
a third.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Fourth, yeah and the fourth we took over. Him we
took a guard who's probably going to be potentially a.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
Starter for us next, year, right which makes a lot more. Sense,
YEAH i guess McCord seems to be our consensus favorite
to those five to seven guys that we know are getting.
Drafted we never seemed to end up With. Leonard we
never seemed to end up With. Gabriel gabriel doesn't interest
me at. All it doesn't interest. ME i don't want
(33:57):
a little. Guy he's a little, guy little. Guy and
if If rourke was, clean he would be my. Favorite
but there's a he's red, flag right if.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
Now IF i could Sign rourke immediately after the, draft oh,
yeah sign me.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
Up oh, yeah. Yeah and, FRANKLY i might even seventh
round or even IF i drafted, one, yeah to get.
Him my problem With howard is the McCown conversation we,
had like this looks like a long time, backup super
smart future head. Coach what's? That what's that? Getting? Yeah
you know.
Speaker 2 (34:28):
Yeah Steel City Sports report says my dream draft scenario
is to get two defensive linemen from the same school
for familiarity comfort with the new. Team what do you
guys think in which duo was you Like williams And
hamilton From Ohio, State collins And broughton From, Texas nolan
And pegeese From, ole Miss Harmon caldwell From oregon or.
(34:50):
Another we've never done The misissippi. One we have Drafted
harmon And caldwell a.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
Lot, yeah, yeah, yeah that works out well for whether
steels picking round, one round, three room them, Together go be,
on go be great, together run stunts. Together that's probably
the favorite.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
One the problem With williams And hamilton Is williams is
probably more of a early day two pick somewhere and
you're not gonna be able to get him right, now.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
But he always falls in between.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
Picks, yeah same thing kind of With collins And. Broughton,
yeah The mississippi duo is kind of interesting.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
Though. Yeah, Yeah, no there are someones you're not gonna.
Get The michigan. Duo, NO i didn't bring them.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
Up, Yeah weber eighty, eight asset pick twenty. One, Harmon, Nolan,
Grant hampton And sanders are all. Gone what's your best
guess on what The steelers will?
Speaker 3 (35:34):
DO i don't. Know they could all be. Gone that
would really be kicking the. Head there'd be.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
Somebody if those five guys are all, gone then somebody
trading somebody good is still available.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
Somebody that shouldn't.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
Be it shouldn't be like a baron OR i mean maybe, Better,
yeah like one of the top edge, rushers or somebody
would never imagine one of the tight.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
Ends OR i would also consider it That Trevon. Henderson i'd, say,
well MAYBE i was thinking the Two Ohio state guys
in Tylerk williams Or.
Speaker 2 (36:08):
Henderson, yeah it's not what you. Want it's not what you.
WANT i, mean you're gonna probably end up trading back.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
If your hand is totally, forced.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
Because there's if all five of those guys are, gone
then some of the addressers have fallen and some of
the Offensive, yeah or one of the cornerbacks has, fallen
and somebody's gonna want to come get or a wide
receiver's fallowing and somebody's gonna want to come.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
Get, RIGHT i, mean what other fifteen names would be
gone with those? Five you could get fifteen real. Quick,
yeah would you Take alexander or Ty? Leak if you
had to check if that is your first pick.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
And you had to take one of those, Two i'd
lean towards the age and Take. TYLEEK i, Think, OKAY
i don't know my answer. Uh Andrew kwaikowski, asked, ideally
would you Sign George pickens to an? Extension would be
nice to see how him AND dk worked together before
committing more, years but maybe difficult they'll have the cap.
Space but would be would like to know what you
(37:01):
think makes? Sense you're not signing him, now there's no.
Speaker 3 (37:04):
REASON i know he's walking into a contract, year but
that doesn't mean that you can franchise. Him you can.
Do you got a lot of.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
All kinds of stuff with. THAT i want to see
if he can be on his best. BEHAVIOR i want
to see if he can produce and be on his
best behavior Before i'm giving him a long term.
Speaker 3 (37:19):
Contract i'm, sorry that's just the WAY i want to
see the best version of. Him, YEAH i do want
to see him With. METCALF i want to see him
with a different, quarterback which is going to, happen AND
i have a different. Quarterback no reason investing that.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
Now there's not, enough, no not enough to go out
of the three defensive. Line this is j mars three
defensive defensive. Lineman who WOULD uns want us to? Draft
and also who is your? Favorite could be different answers
depending on the. SCHEME i go back and forth every. Hour,
yeah it just depends on what you're. LOOKING i, mean to,
(37:50):
Me hampton is the ideal fit is a defensive end
or Not Hampton? Harmon Should harmon as a defensive? End,
yes just because of the, length.
Speaker 3 (37:59):
The, length that's one of my favorite things about. Him
nolan doesn't have.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
That, NO i think he might be the most. Upside
he might have the most upside of the. Group And
grant is a prototypical nose tackle who could be the
anchor of your defense for the next twelve. Years And
i'd like to have a personality test with no medicals
and things of.
Speaker 3 (38:19):
That of, COURSE i don't. Know i'm real happy with. All,
YEAH i mean that's the beauty of. It BUT i
go back and forth all the time of ranking. Them
save the forty three.
Speaker 2 (38:30):
Says would it be good in the fourth, round fourth
or fifth round pick to pick Up Ty robinson From?
Speaker 3 (38:34):
Nebraska, YEAH i don't think he'll be another Fifth he's
been my guy from the get go on this. Thing,
yeah especially If grant was your first. One, YEAH i
mean that's a nice. Duo. Yeah you talk about, radscores
his was really, good really. Good.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
Yeaheah David rivera Asked harmon And Shador sanders both on
the board at twenty. ONE i know you would both Take,
harmon as WOULD. I but what do you think the
chances are The steelers two should. Door it just seems
like if he's at twenty, one they'll pull the. Trigger
would it be a. REACH i don't think it's a.
Reach it's not a, reach AND i would understand.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
It, Yeah AND i hope in a year i'd SAY
i was. Wrong i'm glad they took. Him he's really.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
Good, yeah we just talked ABOUT i don't. KNOW i
don't feel like his ceiling is high. ENOUGH i think
HE'S i think he has a chance to be a good.
Speaker 3 (39:20):
PLAYER i do. TOO i don't know if he can
be a great. Player that's my. Worry, yeah and at that,
POSITION i really want swing for the. Fences IF i
miss him and swing. Again CHRIS.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
G steelers, says If sanders falls at twenty one and
The steelers draft, him do you see them using next year's.
Pick they're originally planning it for a twenty twenty six
quarterback to get back into the second round this, YEAR
i don't see them drafting round one quarterbacks two years
in a, row nor DO.
Speaker 3 (39:45):
I i can't Imagine i'm trading next year's first no matter.
What and again that's not a stealer. Move BUT i
understand the question is if you were to Take sanders And,
okay then MAYBE i use next year's second to get
up to Get. ALEXANDER i can understand that. Process, yeah probably.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
Not Or Tyler, williams, right Maybe grant the earlier part.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
Of, yeah you, KNOW i would understand. It, Yeah i'm
sure IF i told a lot of people your first
two picks Are chador And, grant would you take? It,
well that sounds pretty, good you know WHAT i? Mean? Right?
Right and it's. Doable we get two more, Here Matt.
Speaker 2 (40:24):
Sables if The, Eagles, Dolphins bengals And bucks can pay
two big time receivers at the same, time why do
people believe The steelers won't both pay BOTH dk And.
Speaker 3 (40:32):
George you, can't you, can't you Can and some of
those guys have expensive quarterbacks. Too, YEAH i, Mean burrow's not,
cheap And hurches and cheap and yeah And joey bag of.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
Donuts ass how close ARE nfl gms to fantasy football?
Gms when it comes to. Trading i'll bet they're pretty.
SIMILAR i bet they're.
Speaker 3 (40:49):
Not they're. Not, no think about your fantasy football. League how.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
MANY i, MEAN i make like eight trades a year
in fantasy, football, Right LIKE I i enjoy the trading
part of.
Speaker 3 (40:57):
IT i just trade sometimes just to. Trade and you
also don't mind if you bring a bad apple into
your locker. Room, NO i don't care about. THAT i don't.
Speaker 2 (41:04):
Care he murdered somebody last. Week let's get.
Speaker 3 (41:08):
Suspender that's, right, yeah or you're pissing Off Cam.
Speaker 2 (41:12):
Hayward but also don't have to tell my g my owner, that,
hey we just brought on thirty five million in. Salary,
yeah you don't, mind all, Right so it's a little Different, Joey, yeah, yeah. Yeah,
anyways let's get through a. Break he is The Matt.
WILLIAMSON i Am Dale. Lolly you're listening to The drive
here on The Steelers Audio. Network we'll be back to
finish up the show right after.
Speaker 3 (41:32):
This at.
Speaker 1 (41:36):
Least he's The drive With Dale lolly And Matt williamson
on your twenty four to seven home of The black
And Gold Steelers Nation.
Speaker 3 (41:45):
Radio and we are.
Speaker 2 (41:50):
BACK i Am DALE lolli he is The Matt williamson
And Matt Jaylen warren signed his one year tender offer
today for his restrictive agent Suffer and that was the
thing this entire going into this, OFFSEASON i kept, saying,
Well steelers' top two running backs are both going to
be free, agents restrictive free, agents free agents they don't
(42:14):
go anywhere.
Speaker 3 (42:14):
Anymore, no it's like exclusive right free, agents like they
got no, RIGHTS i, mean and restrictive free. Agents it's
just a matter of where you tenure, them you, know
and especially at the running back position in a running
back heavy. Draft you AND i never thought for one
Minute warren would not be A. Steeler, no no.
Speaker 2 (42:34):
Chance and, honestly if you think about, this and again
this goes back to The steelers not having a. Plan,
right they put the second round tender On Jalen warren
because if somebody went wanted to come out and, say,
okay we're gonna Sign Jalen, warren then The steelers get
the second round.
Speaker 3 (42:51):
Pick you make that. Trade you make that, trade, right
you would say five million cashpas and Turn boring Into.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
Judkins, yeah now you're into the second, round, right you
want to get a?
Speaker 3 (43:00):
Pick, yeah, yeah and that might turn Into alexander Or
tyre whatever one of the running backs or on the running,
backs or then you Take hampton in the first round
because you don't Have warren and you take one to.
Seventh you, know like you win that, Trade you win the. Trade. Yeah,
yeah if they are tended him, LESS i would have.
Speaker 2 (43:16):
Worried, yeah because somebody then, well because he was, undrafted
you're not going to get a pick. Back you get
an opportunity to, match but you don't get to Pick.
Speaker 3 (43:24):
It really isn't even hardly. News you know that he
signed his. Deal he really has no. Choice he's happy about.
It they have no.
Speaker 2 (43:31):
Choice give the second round ten or it's over five.
Million it's a great deal for, him. Right it isn't
made a lot BY nfl. Standard, yeah the only difference
is he As Max starks likes to tell, us you
get you have to pay that tax on that money
because you're getting paid every week instead of getting the
money up, front no matter.
Speaker 3 (43:49):
Where you go in every, state every state in another.
Country this, YEAR i don't know how that. Works not, good,
Probly like your accountant is, going, WAIT i got to
do this for eight different, states and NOW i got
to do one for out of the country For. Ireland. Yeah, yeah,
yeah that's. Brutal it's a little. Different and preseason games
that are there and stuff like that. Too and again
(44:11):
we don't have time for that. Conversation it's a long.
One BUT i never thought of. That only players think
of that.
Speaker 2 (44:15):
And, agents you, KNOW i think about it all the
time when guys signed free agent. Contracts oh, yeah where
are you signing? At and if you're signing.
Speaker 3 (44:22):
State income, TACTS i, mean what an advantage.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
A, yeah you're going To, texas or you're going To
florida one of these other states that don't have a
state income, tax or you're going To, california, yeah Or
New york where you go where the taxes.
Speaker 3 (44:33):
Are through the.
Speaker 2 (44:34):
Roof, yeah your money doesn't go as.
Speaker 3 (44:36):
Full this is a couple hundred. Bucks, no we're.
Speaker 2 (44:38):
Talking to hundreds of thousands of.
Speaker 3 (44:40):
Zeros on the end of this. Conversation, Yeah and it matters,
absolutely especially for like A. WARRNT i mean it's different
if You're Aaron, rodgers, RIGHT i, mean money's really not an.
Object But warren might only play three more years of his.
Life his lifetime earnings might be ten, million, right, yeah
maybe you know and burn through a lot of it. Already,
yeah just in you know you've just.
Speaker 2 (45:01):
WAIT i paid two million dollars in taxes on my
ten million dollars AND i made yeah.
