Welcome back to Clark's Puppet Shop BBN Radio here on
the UK Sports Network. I'm Darren Hedrick. Happy to be
back with you for another season. As we get set
for Kentucky football the season opener this Saturday at seven
forty five inside Kroger Field and the UK Sports Network.
Coverage begins at five point thirty with the Jack Burford
Chevrolet count Down to kick off coverage presented by Christy Thomas,
(04:55):
Jeremy Jarman, and Logan Stenberg, who we'll hear coming up
later in the program, but right now, now, Christy joins
us here on the show, and we're also alongside Keith
Farmer from BBN tonight WLA X eighteen. And finally, it's
game week, right, what is it?
Speaker 11 (05:10):
I mean, how did that happen?
Speaker 12 (05:11):
We were actually talking about that before we came on
the air, where we're like, all of a sudden with this,
it's football season. But there's no better time a year
on the planet than football season, especially when we you know,
of course we're in our second summer. But when you
start to taste a little bit of fall and smell
a little bit of fall, you're like, it's on, it's ready.
Speaker 13 (05:26):
And we had that weather last week, right, it was
that nice and cool fall, like we're perfect. I was like,
I would agree, but yeah, yeah, I think you know.
It hits me really when they start training camp and everything.
But still you're right, nothing like when you don't like it.
Even Coach Doop said is his press conference first thing
he said, Hey, I walked in Monday morning and it
was game week.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Yeah, and it's different. It hits different.
Speaker 12 (05:46):
And there's something about August too, I said, I think
when the calendar flips over to August first, that seems
like a sort of a magical thing that happens for
me where I'm like, now, you know, we're getting into
that mode. So I love that too.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
So yeah, Well, and Keith, it's great to have you
on the show with us tonight. I know you guys
are busy. Not only did you have six o'clock news
in the sports, but you're also getting set to really
cover what should be an exciting year of UK Athletics
on BBN Tonight. And it was some exciting new news
announced recently with the extension the partnership the UK Sports Network,
(06:17):
UK Athletics and wl e X with BBN Tonight.
Speaker 13 (06:20):
Man, I'm so excited about that. Everybody in our department was.
We were thrilled to hear extended to twenty twenty nine.
And I tell you that I even said this in
the release. But it's like this has been a highlight
of my career, you know. Being able to just talk
about all things UK athletics and bring the stories of
the athletes and to bring what's happened the latest, you know,
(06:40):
to BBN on a nightly basis has just been a
thrill for me.
Speaker 12 (06:44):
It's always something I felt like in this market was
so needed, you know that to have some kind of
nightly in a good spot, a primetime spot that everybody
could really sink their teeth into.
Speaker 11 (06:55):
And this is it. So I think it's it was
long over.
Speaker 13 (06:58):
Day and look the thing is, I know everybody and
watch it that night. I have so many people tell
me that they, you know, either DVR record some other way,
you know, or just go back and watch later on
bbntnight dot com, last the Internet and watch yeah exactly.
And then but they do they tell me, you know, hey,
we watch it the next day and my dad even
does that, you know, records it, watch the Last Night Show.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
I love it. As you're getting ready to do your
coverage in addition to what we're doing here on the
UK Sports Network, the one hundred thousand feet view, does
it feel like a theme this year? Is new around
UK athletics. You've got Memorial Coliseum opening is basically a
brand new arena. Historic. Yeah. And then with football you
got so many new faces, but you also got a
new offensive coordinator, a new quarterback. It just feels like
(07:41):
there's there's new basketball coaches. So I mean, it just
feels like the we're new is everywhere around the athletics
department right now.
Speaker 13 (07:49):
Yeah, I'm excited about, you know, getting the season started.
But I hear so many people. I don't know about you,
but I get out and about and I have a
lot of people that are excited about basketball. What do
you think about these school? Yeah, you know, what do
you think about these teams? And I tell them, I go,
but hey, we got football season.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Though, first.
Speaker 13 (08:05):
Yeah right, yeah, yeah, I mean, yeah, let's do that first.
But they are excited about the newness that you were
talking about.
Speaker 12 (08:11):
Well in so many new faces and the women's basketball team.
I was just telling Darren before we came on the air,
I was am seeing Big Blue U which is during
welcome Week and all the freshmen come into Kroger Field
and they teach them about game day traditions and that
sort of thing. And then they take the iconic Kentucky
picture out on the field, and the women's basketball team
came in and I thought, gosh, look at all these
new faces. And then Darren said, yeah, and you were
(08:32):
looking up at all of them, right, And I was like, yeah,
that's exactly what you're tall.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
I'm tall.
Speaker 11 (08:37):
I couldn't believe it.
Speaker 12 (08:37):
I was like, yeah, wow, okay, So it was so
fun to see.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
One other thing that's new is the Southeastern Conference because
Texas and Oklahoma are now members. The schedules are different,
the divisions are gone. Are you excited about the way
the schedules are now christy where all of a sudden
you look and it's like a who's who of teams?
And as we heard Mark Stoops say, this conference wasn't
with the faint of heart before, but now it's a
(09:02):
challenge for all sixteen teams in the league.
Speaker 12 (09:05):
It's hard to not be excited. I think about stuff
like that because now it's really a super conference. I mean,
it's become what it's. You just didn't add just anybody.
You added, you know, some perennial powerhouses in the football world,
and then you know, oh, by the way, they're not
too bad. In volleyball tall Texas is Oh, by the way,
Oklahoma's pretty darn good.
Speaker 11 (09:23):
It's softball, you know.
Speaker 12 (09:24):
So there are all these things that as you add
these teams in, you just think, wow, it really up
the game. So I thought, you know, really, whatever you
do inside the SEC is.
Speaker 11 (09:34):
Is going to be top of the line.
Speaker 12 (09:37):
I mean, you know, these are guys that are going
to be playing for national championships because if you're doing
it in the SEC. But then you take a look
at you know, all these great places Kentucky's road games
are well, first of all, it's brutal, but it also
is fun to think about. You know, going to Texas
for the first time since nineteen fifty one is amazing.
I mean, you know, all these things that are going
to be a ton of fun to see. So I
think it's great. I mean, it's you know, it's a
(09:59):
super conference. It's like anything else that's out there, and
it's gonna be fun.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Keith was going to ask you the same thing about
getting to go I know you've been to Austin, Texas,
but to go there for a football game that Kentucky's in,
or even going to Norman, Oklahoma, Yeah, how much are
you looking forward to that.
Speaker 13 (10:12):
No, that's the thing is, I've really not had the
chance to travel all that much because it just was
one of those things that kind of went away from
the TV side of things. So last year I actually
got to go to Fayetteville and I got to go
to Baton Rouge for the first time. I've obviously been
a Knoxville. It's closed Fandy, but you know, it's for me,
it is it's exciting. My son and his wife live
in Austin, so it gives me a chance to go
(10:32):
down there. Yeah, when that came out, I was like,
who's going second?
Speaker 1 (10:39):
You go first?
Speaker 13 (10:42):
So yeah, but no, I think we're all old enough,
I think to remember all the other expansions that we've
seen most recently, Yeah, you know, with you know, the
last two expansions in the SEC, and to me, it
just makes every program better. It improves, you know, everything
within the.
Speaker 12 (10:56):
Little well and doing away with the divisions then too,
I think just really makes things incredibly interesting because how
many times have we all seen or known where you know,
the East was heavy or the West was heavy, and
the two best teams really didn't get into the SEC
championship game, and that won't be the case this year
in football, so I think that's really cool.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Yeah. Well, one other thing that's new this year is
a member of the Countdown to Kickoff team alongside Christian Jeremy.
We welcome Logan Stenberg this year. We'll hear from him
when we come back, so look forward to that. Love Logan,
So he'll be joining us here on the program Stick around.
We'll take a quick time out and be back with
Logan Stenberg here on the UK Sports Network.

Welcome back to Clark Spot, up Shop, BB and Radio.
Here on the UK Sports Network. We're going to go
right to our phone lines where Logan Stenberg, the All American,
joins us. He is now a part of our UK
Sports Network team. He'll be alongside Christy Thomas and Jeremy
Jarman for the Jack Burford Chevrolet Countdown to kick Off
beginning at five point thirty on Saturday. And Logan, I
(14:58):
know Game Week that first on and used to be
exciting for you get all amped up and ready to
hit somebody else. What's it like to be Game Week
number one on this side of things, this side of
the microphone?
Speaker 19 (15:11):
Man, I'm amped up, afraid to hit somebody.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
What do you mean?
Speaker 12 (15:16):
Well, really, what he meant to ask Logan was outside
of working with me, what are you looking forward to
those being a part of the UK.
Speaker 19 (15:25):
Man, I'm just pumped to be on the fan side.
To be honest with you, speculate. There's a lot less
pressure on this side, I'll tell you that much.
Speaker 11 (15:32):
He said, speculate.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
I like it.
Speaker 11 (15:34):
We love to speculate and we love to arm.
Speaker 19 (15:37):
Oh yeah, yeah, we're pretty good.
Speaker 11 (15:39):
At that, no doubt. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
But it's gonna be fun Christy when you when you
have Logan added in with Jeremy, because you've got two
linemen that have been on opposite sides of the football
to give a perspective.
Speaker 12 (15:51):
Now, it just like bookends, really, which I said, you know,
and these are guys that have played at such a
high level, So you're talking about two guys that have
done it all in the SEC, two guys that have
done it at the NFL level and really understand it
and really get it. So that that, I think, more
than anything, is what I'm most excited about. Seeing these
guys come together with their experience and you know, what
(16:12):
they can bring to the table is huge. And I
love this perspective from being able to hear from a
guy like Logan about you know, listen, being an offensive lineman.
We talked about the SEC not being for the faint
of heart.
Speaker 11 (16:21):
Neither is being an.
Speaker 12 (16:21):
Offensive lineman in the SEC that ain't for the faint
a heart either, So you know, here's a guy that
can bring a totally inside perspective on what that that's
like and and can can really break down an offense
in a way we've not done in a long time.
Speaker 11 (16:35):
So I think this is really cool.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
Logan. Let me ask you, because we heard from coach
Stoops today talking about the one thing he wants to
make sure his team does this weekend is control what
they can control and you know, channel the energy properly.
As a player, how long did it take to kind
of master that to where you put everything in the
right compartment to where it needs to be so you
(16:57):
can perform in that first game?
Speaker 19 (17:01):
Yeah, I mean it took me well into my senior year,
to be honest with you, to control those emotions. And
it's hard. And that's what the biggest thing is all about.
How much experience you have on the offensive line, how
much experience you have playing in front of seventy eighty
thousand people and being able to do it with all
your boys out there. And you mentioned controlling the controllable.
I think the biggest thing is to have a balanced
(17:22):
offense this week. I mean, I want to run the ball.
I want to throw the ball downfield. I want it
to look smooth and on time. I don't want any
pre snat penalties. I think if we go out there,
we're gonna put up a lot of points and a
lot of things to be really happy.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
What have what's kind of stood out to you with
the offensive line so far in preseason? What you've gotten
to see or what you already know about the guys
that are that are upfront trying to protect Brock.
Speaker 19 (17:46):
Yeah, Eli Cox is the leader up front that There's
no two ways about it. He's the one that's gonna
be making all the calls. Everything's gonna stem from that
center position. I think we've got one of the best
to do it. You know, he's coming in as a senior.
He has a lot of snaps under his belt. He's
a smart guy, he loves to play ball, he cares
a lot about UK So I don't think we're, uh,
we're in any trouble in that front whatsoever. I'm really
(18:08):
excited to see Jalen Farmer. Have heard a lot out
of camp from him. Apparently he's got a little nasty streak,
which you know, I'm a big fan of. So I'm
really interested to see what he does at the right
guard position.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
In terms of a new offensive coordinator, obviously Brock vander
Griff's coming in here, he's got to learn a new
system and a new call. But and then these wide
receivers and running backs have got to be on the
same page. But what is it like from the offensive
lineman's perspective of learning new cadences maybe or new h
maybe some language that you've got to use within the
new offense.
Speaker 19 (18:43):
Yeah, you know, verbage changes every year, doesn't matter. If
we had you know, in my four years we had
Eddie Green, it changed every year. It didn't matter. It's
all the same place. You're gonna be running power, you're
gonna run counter, you're gonna run sweep. It's all the
same things. Just's what you call it. And so that's
what they've been doing in camp for the past six
weeks is just kind of learning how to work together
is one the efficient with the offense. And I think
(19:04):
they're gonna do a great job. I mean, obviously there's
gonna be some growing pains, but I don't think it's
gonna be anything to worry about.
Speaker 11 (19:09):
Logan.
Speaker 12 (19:09):
I had a conversation with Brad White really talking about
Fall Camp and how that, you know, getting excited about
Fall camp, and he was talking about how much he
loves that and he really loves that time that the
guys are able to spend together. What did you see
in your time in fall camp that you know that
really is such a time that these it's hard. I
mean There's no two ways about it. Fall camp is hard,
(19:29):
but it's such a special time for a team that
I think is really hard to replicate.
Speaker 11 (19:35):
There's no way you can do it until you go
through it and you live it.
Speaker 19 (19:39):
Yeah, he nailed it around the head. I mean, it's
really just kind of coming together as one as a team.
You know, you have all the pieces together. You do
that in the off season when you're recruiting and getting
guys in. Once they're in those doors, you got to
learn how to play with each other, you know what
I mean. So it's going to be learning who you're
playing next to learning how Brock makes his calls, what
he does when he's nervous or scared or unsure, how
(20:00):
he reacts, And once you figure that out, then you
can play off of that and then special things happen.
You know, Once I know what my left guard is
gonna do, I can play off of that and it
makes me look better vice versail all across the field.
Speaker 12 (20:13):
There's definitely some youth on the two DP that we
see in some of these positions as the number two
and some of these O line positions. What are you
thinking about that? Like, I guess really kind of the
rotation of these guys is will be interesting to see.
Speaker 19 (20:28):
Yeah, I agree, and I don't know what they're gonna do.
Is a lot of young guys backing up some experienced
dudes on that front line. I'm really excited to see
Kobe Keenham. I may be biased from Florence, Alabama, so
pretty excited to see him get out there and hopefully
we can get up by a couple of touchdowns and
get the young guys in there get some experience, because
I think that's big. I mean, you can practice out
(20:51):
there on the practice field all you want, but once
you play in front of some fans and you actually
get to hit somebody else, it changes a bit for you.
Speaker 13 (20:59):
Did you see some things like that, Like when you
were playing where you saw guys just like really balling
out in practice and then all of a sudden the
lights came on, it was a little bit different, or
vice versa.
Speaker 19 (21:09):
Those lights can be too bright sometimes, so when you're
when you're out there and you're looking up and it's
fourth court, everybody's got the fours up and it's rocking. Uh,
you know, those eyes can get white sometimes, so and
that's where the experience comes in once you have guys
that have experienced it and you know, been down to
Florida in the swamp and and won and fought back,
and that that's that's better than almost anything in football,
(21:32):
is just knowing what to do when times are tough.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
Let's take a quick time out and we'll continue this
conversation with Logan when we return. This is Clark's Pupping
Shop bb AND Radio in the UK Sports Network.
Speaker 6 (21:43):
Hey, I'm Jackie, and a little thing I love about
the Chick fil a Chicken biscuit is the chicken. It
is golden brown, so juicy, so delicious. It's the perfect
savory start.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
To my day.
Speaker 7 (21:53):
Hey, I'm Matt and a little thing I love about
the Chick fil a Chicken biscuit is the freshly baked, flaky,
buttery biscuit. When I take a bite, it's kind of like,
you know, crispy soft, crispy, crispy outside soft, interior crispy chicken.
There's really nothing like it.

Welcome back to Box Puppet Shop BBN Radio. This is
the UK Sports networkdarreon Heddrick alongside Keith Farmer and Christy
Thomas and joining us on a Clark's Puppet Shop phone line,
Logan Stenberg, who's now a part of our UK Sports
Network team on Game Day Saturdays and uh, Logan, let's
let's turn a little bit to the defense. I know
this is going to be Jeremy's job on Saturdays to
(24:12):
take care of the defense, but man, you gotta be
excited when you look at some of the talent on
that side of the football, especially a disruptor like Dion
Walker on that line.
Speaker 19 (24:21):
No, I mean that's a game changer. I'm not worried
about the D line whatsoever. And then honestly, in the
secondary with Harrison, it's gonna be solid as well. I
have no no question marks on defense right now. And
that could come back and bite me in the butt.
But I'm.
Speaker 12 (24:37):
Listen me saying that we're gonna go twelve and Oh
always comes back and bites me in the butt.
Speaker 11 (24:41):
But it's fine. I mean, we just wear it and
go with it.
Speaker 19 (24:44):
I down with you. I mean National championship or bus.
Speaker 11 (24:47):
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 12 (24:48):
I mean, let's get to Atlanta, right, Let's get to
the get to Atlanta and then yeah, I mean all right, Logan.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
And championship. Yes, Southern Miss is game one. You gotta
be one to OH before you can beat twelve of them.
Southern Miss is game one, and uh, Logan, I don't
know how much you've had a chance to really sit
down and break down the Eagles. There's a lot of
new things. I feel like this. You could say this
about any college football program in today's era. But there's
(25:15):
a lot of new faces in that Southern miss program.
One of them is their quarterback transfer from Florida State,
Tate Radamaker. He's going to bring a dynamic arm to
that life to that offense for the Eagles on Saturday.
Speaker 19 (25:30):
Yeah, the problem with that is that Deon's gonna be
in the backfill with JJ all day. It doesn't really
matter who they back there.
Speaker 12 (25:38):
Beyont Yeah, speaking of JJ, I think that, you know,
he's a guy that a lot of people are talking
about really looking to have a big sixth season when
you think about that young man coming back, and you know,
Jeremy talked a little bit about on our BB AND
Game Day special that we had about really JJ's not
(25:59):
in Crely in a position where he's able to as
part of this defensive scheme get a lot of sacks
and do that kind of thing. But he does an
awful lot in his role in his position. But you know,
this could really be a big year for JJ to
get to the next level.
Speaker 11 (26:14):
I mean, I think I think he's got it in him,
don't you Logan.
Speaker 19 (26:19):
He's definitely got it in on this big year for
him and he understands that as well, and Brad does too,
so I'm sure that they're in there getting ready. And
I'm really glad you mentioned that he's a great role player,
like he sets up for everybody else to get the
big play. And you know who notices that, NFL scouts.
You know, he may not have his name called over
the loudspeakers, but people are taking note of him.
Speaker 13 (26:39):
He's a hell of a player, like one of the
guys to last year that you know, and this year,
everybody's talking about Maxwell Harriston, right.
Speaker 11 (26:46):
I mean, but.
Speaker 13 (26:47):
How do you have such a big season as he does.
You know did last year to two touchdown returns, I mean,
just an amazing year. How do you back that up
and not expect that kind of year as a player.
Speaker 19 (27:02):
Well, he's just got to play his own game. The
big players will come to stay within yourself, do what
you can do and control the controllable. And I truly
think that there's not gonna be any problems for him whatsoever.
He's got the speed, he's got the ball, he knows,
he knows how to play that position. He just doesn't
need to make the moment too big, you know what
I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
One of the things that coach Stoops talked about today's
press conference was the technology that's at the fingertips and players,
not just during preparation in the weak logan, but during
games now, the iPads, the communication and the helmets. What's
your thoughts on that and kind of everything that's now
at the fingertips of a player, even when the live
actions happening on the field.
Speaker 19 (27:44):
Yeah, it's just like the NFL. I mean, it's gonna
be broken down. The offensive line is to be able
to come off the field, see what that defense is doing,
see where they messed up, fix it mid game, and
keep going. I think the biggest thing is going to
be the the helmets walkie talkie that they got with
the core. It's gonna be like a teap sheet form
back there. Hey, the safety's dropping down, look for the deep.
(28:04):
Oh they're playing salt, look for something under. I mean,
it's just gonna be really easy for him. It's gonna
be nice one two reads for him, and it's gonna
be uh, it's gonna be a game changer, I think
all across college football. That's the problem.
Speaker 12 (28:16):
It's hard to write my mind around any of that. Honestly,
this is where I know I'm old when I think about,
like even now, seeing high schools have this technology on
their sidelines, right, they've got iPads too, and they've got
big TV.
Speaker 11 (28:27):
Set up and what are they like?
Speaker 1 (28:28):
This is.
Speaker 11 (28:31):
Believe it. I'm like, my gosh, this has come a
long way.
Speaker 12 (28:34):
That's when you know you're old, right when, because now
these kids are game right, it is a game change.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
It's a long way from the dry erase boards something.
Speaker 11 (28:41):
Yeah, yeah it is. Yeah, the little magnets we're all
moving around.
Speaker 19 (28:46):
The dry race board is just getting broken mid game.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Anyways, Well, Logan, we appreciate you taking some time to
join us here this week. We look forward to having
you on the show again as the season progresses, but
obviously we can't wait to see you alongside and hear
you alongside Christy and Jeremy starting this Saturday at five
point thirty on the pregame show. And we'll get you
(29:08):
out on this just your overall thoughts on Game one
and what you would like to see from that Kentucky
offense against the Eagles on Saturday.
Speaker 19 (29:17):
Yeah. I touched on it briefly. I just want to
balance offense. I don't want anything crazy out there. I
want to average five yard to carry. I want Brock
to throw for two hundred and two tudies and then
get out by half. I think that it's going to
be a good game, and I really just want it
to be smooth operation. I don't want any pre snat
penalties whatsoever. I would love maybe a roughing the passer,
(29:39):
some type of aggressive penalty though, just to kind of
set the tone for the year. They'd be great, but
I don't want to wish that too much.
Speaker 11 (29:45):
That's a Logan Stenberg comment if I've ever heard one.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
All right, Logan, thanks so much for being on with
us tonight, buddy, and we'll see you Saturday.
Speaker 19 (29:54):
See y'all there, man.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
Thanks, it's Logan Stenberg, the American lineman.
Speaker 12 (29:58):
Who's part of the kraption. He don't see a rough
in the passer call. It's an unsuccessful game.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
I like it. I can already tell Saturday is going
to be a little foul with you and Logan and
throw Jeremy.
Speaker 12 (30:10):
Into that miss Oh gosh, yeah, well listen, they're great
and to that end, it is going to be a
lot of fun. And let's not tell him. I said,
this is now. You have a grown up job, but
this is not. You know, he's married, got a little
baby now and doing all kinds of he's doing grown
up things.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
So don't forget.
Speaker 13 (30:25):
He's gonna be on BBN tonight and BBN Game Day.
Speaker 12 (30:27):
He will be Yes, he'll be making some appearances yeah there,
which will be great. I mean being able to break
down some plays and stuff will be Yeah, it'll be awesome.
Speaker 11 (30:34):
Yeah.

the show here on Clark's Pumping Shop BBN Radio, Darren Heddrick,

chat with Logan Stenberg, the All American who's now part
(34:14):
of the UK Sports Network team. He'll be on the
pregame show that Jack Burford Chevrolet Countdown to Kickoff coverage
begins five point thirty this Saturday, Kentucky and Southern miss So.
One thing we haven't really touched on about the excitement
of this week the fact it's a night game. I
know it's hot to late August days, we get a
night game, right, Oh my.
Speaker 12 (34:35):
Gosh, Listen, I said, I'm already sort of thinking forward
thinking about South Carolina being at three thirty, which you
know is obviously right in the heat of the day.
But at some point we will get some reprieve. But
there is something special and different about a night game,
just and I think from that perspective of when it
cools off, and when everybody you know has all day
(34:55):
long out there, you know, tailgating and having a great time,
is there's something special about it.
Speaker 11 (34:59):
So I think it's cool.
Speaker 13 (35:00):
I think the thing I'm excited about is getting to
see those new lights that they're talking about, the new
ribbon board that I've been watching go up as we
visited over there, so you know that. I think the
players getting the chance to go out there and practice
under it. Even though Coach Stoop said today wasn't totally
prepared and ready to go, they got a sense of
what it's going to be like. And I think that's
gonna be a lot of fun. But also for the
(35:21):
fans being game and seeing those lights go off. Yeah,
And so I think that's gonna be good. I think
we've got some cooling weather coming in though that day.
I believe it would be good and maybe it'll cary
over to the tells us yes exactly.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
In the And the other thing too, is we sort
of hinted at with Logan, is you get an opponent
coming in here that's historically been tough on SEC teams
and has a lot of unknowns. But I feel like
every season opener now there's going to be so many unknowns,
that's just part of it. But Southern miss is a
known commodity in the South.
Speaker 13 (35:52):
So yeah, I mean, you know, heck goes back Brett Farve, right,
But but they've always played Kentucky tough. I remember them
playing against Louisville when they were in the same conference.
It was always tough for them to win there. They
came here obviously in sixteen and beat us. We had
to go down there in tough one out in seventeen.
So it's one of those programs that you don't want
(36:14):
to overlook at any point.
Speaker 12 (36:16):
I think if there was a point to play them,
it's it's great that it's the first game, so we
have a little extra time to be able to prepare correct.
We heard him talk about that. You know, we've been
preparing for him some last week. This is obviously a
true game week approach. But yeah, they've had some extra time,
and there's nobody better to have that extra time, right.
Speaker 1 (36:32):
Funny stats, since you mentioned Brett farv Yeah, Florida State
top ten team upset by unranked Georgia Tech this weekend
to start the college football season. The last time Florida
State was upset by an unranked opponent when they were
in the top ten themselves far Southern miss.
Speaker 12 (36:48):
There you go, Okay, wow, that's a nugget, you know,
And I mean here they are preparing for a team
that's got a new offensive coordinator.
Speaker 1 (36:55):
Man, think of all the film.
Speaker 13 (36:57):
Yeah, the UK is having to go through to try
and figure this thing out. And on the other side,
on top of transfer portal.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
Right, yeah, so yeah, how excited are you to see
Brock vander.
Speaker 12 (37:08):
Griff Well, you know, I don't know why you wouldn't
be excited, but you know, because this is one of
those things I said, I feel like this is where
we are every year, where we're kind of you know,
when we had back to back years with Will Levis,
I thought that was such a treat to have the
same quarterback. But you know, I think this everybody is
talking about, you know, what this young man can do,
and I think it's going to be different than anything
(37:29):
else we've seen so far out of you know, the
last several quarterbacks that we've had, especially with Devin Leary,
and you know, so I am really excited to think
about this offensive line. I know we talked about them earlier,
but you know they're experienced and seeing Eli Cox in
that center position, you know, love to see Jagger Burton
have a big year.
Speaker 11 (37:48):
I mean he's due for a big year. But this
is you know, Marcus Cox.
Speaker 12 (37:52):
I mean, these these are all guys that are are
on everybody's watch list as you know, potential first team
SEC kind of guys that are going to be protecting
this guy that could make this a really fun offense.
Speaker 1 (38:04):
And Keith he's got some real whippings. Barry On Brown,
dun Key.
Speaker 13 (38:09):
Old Jimory Maclin, Fred Ferrier. I mean, yeah, I'm really
excited about it, but I think for me, the thing
I'm excited about you brought up Will Levis. Remember the
first year how much he would go out and he'd
just run people over or jump over again whatever. Yes,
And then second year it seemed like they wanted to
like protect him for his career, right, and they didn't
have him run as much. Then Devin Leary not much
of a runner. I think we're gonna see Brock Vandergriff
(38:30):
get out and be that year that we saw the Levis,
you know, and get out there. And then on top
of that, you got Gavin Wimsatt, who could come in
and could easily run some wildcat run someway.
Speaker 1 (38:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (38:40):
He was doing things, yeah, load, So I think it
could be a fun time with the quarterback position.
Speaker 2 (38:46):
You know.
Speaker 12 (38:46):
We had to sit down on our BB AND Game
Day show with barry On and Dane, which I thought
was really good, just because I felt like they had
just grown up.
Speaker 11 (38:55):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 12 (38:56):
And even though they're juniors and these guys have had
some great success year, you know, I think maybe last
year was probably slightly disappointing based on their freshman seasons.
But I think to watch them as juniors, really it
feels like they're just coming into their own and they've
had a tough go of it with different different offensive coordinators.
I mean, this has not been easy, different wide receivers coaches.
(39:17):
I mean, you know this is this has been a
tough go for these guys to have some consistency from
the coaching side of things. So I'm thrilled for them,
you know, like, let's let's let's see these next two
years with the same offensive coordinator, with the same wide
receivers coach, and somebody that I think, by all accounts,
has done a very nice job in de Keel Schortz
seems like he's doing any coach.
Speaker 13 (39:37):
And the thing that shows me they've grown up is,
you know, Sierra that day I asked them, said, you know,
what have you taken from from having that that had
to be tough to have, you know, different quarterbacks, different coordinators,
and they were like, oh no, it's football, and you
know you just take something from each of them and
you learn and you grow from it. That showing exactly
how sure they are and how they didn't let it
get them down. That they had something different thrown at them.
(39:57):
They learned from what was put in of them.
Speaker 1 (40:01):

episode of the new year, getting you set for the
football openers Saturday Nights against Southern miss A seven forty
five kickoff at Kroger Field, Darren Hedrick alongside Christy Thomas
and Keith Farmer. And I've heard you guys mention not
only BBN Tonight, but BBN Game Day. It's a show
(42:36):
that airzon Saturday mornings gets everybody set. And you guys
have already talked about a few of those sit down
sort of long form interviews. How much fun have you
had doing those? Because you kind of get to know
a little more about the person behind the jersey rather
than just knowing, Hey, daan Key's a wide receiver. You
get to know Dane a little better with those.
Speaker 13 (42:55):
Yeah, and I don't know, hopefully I don't steal your thunder,
but like you know, just you find out you get
to talk to them before you even start the interview,
start the record button, you know, and so you get
to know a little bit about them, their families and
things like that. But you know, Brad White going out
and I saw him at the baseball game, yeah, you know,
and how much fun he was having and she was
asking him about that, and he's kind of he's watching
(43:18):
the coaches right more than he was the player. Yeah,
he's feeling for Minji owned. Yeah, like the decisions he
was having to make.
Speaker 12 (43:25):
He would would actually tell us what they would do,
Like he knows their nuances and all the little things
that they would do about how you know mine would
walk down the third whatever it was he does when
he walks out there.
Speaker 11 (43:34):
He knew it to a tea.
Speaker 12 (43:35):
And then you find out fun stuff like we're birthday twins.
Brad White and I are birthday twins. So you find
out that kind of stuff, so, you know, and honestly,
you start to think about that kind of stuff too.
Is you know, like these coaches are really trying to
be part of this community. I mean they you know,
this is that's important to him. And he even said that,
he was like, you know this is you know, we're
living this and so, you know, for their kids to
be involved in things and them to be supporting other
(43:57):
sports knowing that they're supporting football as well too, is really.
Speaker 1 (43:59):
Cool, you know.
Speaker 13 (44:00):
And I'm not gonna lie, it's pretty cool when you
get to sit down with like Mark Pope before he
goes out in front of the thousands of fans at
rupp Aerna and talk to him for the first time
and you know, welcome him in and everything, and that's
really cool.
Speaker 4 (44:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (44:12):
And Kenny Brooks Maggie did that with Yea with Kenny
Brooks as well, so really neat.
Speaker 1 (44:16):
Yeah, yeah, you know, I was just sitting there thinking
I had a similar experience in baseball with the women's
basketball team because they brought a recruit to a game
and it happened to be the weekend we played Tennessee
at Kentucky Proud Park and that place was packed and
they come in and they're like, oh, this is this
is crazy. And then the fans recognized coach Brooks and
his staff and were standing up while play was happening
(44:38):
on the field and cheering and clapping the new women's
basketball staff. And so I'm on the radio trying to
call a pitch. I'm like, by the way, that was
just a ball. They're cheering because you know, the women's
basketball staff is just set down in the front row
by and home plate.
Speaker 11 (44:53):
So that's great.
Speaker 12 (44:54):
Well, that's you know that there is a sense of
community amongst those coaches. You know, they they really do
support each other. Their reach tweeting there, you know, they
are supporting each other. So you know, and I one
of the best, and I'm sure we're gonna talk about volleyball,
but one of the best at that is Craig Skinner.
I mean, he is so supportive of all the sports.
He's always retweeting something and you know, always talking about
(45:14):
all the great things and other rael. Yeah, so it
really is a sense of community for sure.
Speaker 1 (45:21):
No doubt about it. And I know for BBN tonight,
you guys got a couple of weeks off for the Olympics,
but back up and rolling and keeping everybody updated every night,
week nights at seven thirty on. Yeah, you've got football
and volleyball. Soccer's already underway, so plenty right now.
Speaker 13 (45:37):
Yeah, oh, it's been a blast to get this thing started.
But you know, glad that volleyball's finally here. But like
you said, soccer, the women are already off to a thing.
It's three and no start, right and the men got
their first win, so big there and now just looking
forward to UK football getting it started.
Speaker 12 (45:50):
Those two weeks off for the Olympics really set that
show up though to do some fun things because there
were so many UK athletes exactly did so well that
they did some great sit down on interviews with some
people who you know, with Messi Russell and you know
some of these went besides great, I mean, she's so fun,
so some cool stuff that came as a result of
the Olympics as well too.
Speaker 11 (46:10):
So yeah, good, it's a great show.
Speaker 1 (46:12):
You got to watch it, Yeah, no doubt about it.
And we are going to talk about some volleyball coming
up next as Craig Skinner's team will officially get the
season underway tomorrow night. But I know one thing that
they're going to be on a neutral court tomorrow night
against Nebraska, and we can talk about that a little bit.
But exciting to see the soft opening of Memorial Colisseum
(46:33):
and getting a match in there with fans. It's going
to be a lot of fun to see what is
essentially a new arena at the historic Memorial Colisseum.
Speaker 11 (46:40):
It's incredible. You've been in there?
Speaker 4 (46:41):
Right?
Speaker 11 (46:41):
Have you been in?
Speaker 13 (46:43):
I've just really peeked in. Maggie went when they had
the press conference with Mitch and you know, I know
there's some other I've seen videos though that to me,
I didn't even expect it to look like it. Yes,
I'm really blown away from it and I can't wait
to get in there.
Speaker 11 (46:58):
Have you been inside, deren Yeah? What do you think?
Speaker 1 (47:00):
I love it? I mean, it's just amazing the turnaround
and the look of it. I think the fans are
going to love it. During the summer, if I had
to go to the Joe Craft Center to meet with somebody,
I would always find a tunnel or sneak my way
through to find a window and watch the progress. That
was a lot of fun, you know.
Speaker 12 (47:16):
I happened to see it. I guess the last time
I saw it was when it was just bare bones.
They had stripped everything out and you talk about dirt story. Yeah,
it was just such a bizarre thought, you know, like
where they really were trying to maintain some of the
historic nature of the building itself, but then had just
stripped it down. You thought, gosh, this really is an
old building. It's really so to see what they've been
(47:39):
able to do is remarkable.
Speaker 1 (47:41):
Well, we're going to take our final time out here
on Clark's Pumping Shop bb AND Radio and when we
come back, we'll talk a little bit about this volleyball
team that gets their season underway tomorrow night. This is
the UK Sports Network. Whoa whoa, whoa Dave.
Speaker 17 (47:56):
Before you use that post tool digger, where's your gas
line and where's your wallet? Because you hit the gas
line and it's going to cost you. Not to mention
that it's also very dangerous. Okay, Now, where's your phone?
Good call eight one one before you dig. One call
and you'll know where to dig every time. It's to
(48:16):
call eight one one, no problems, no accident, no fines.
Oh and it's the law tip or not.

So the Cats go twelve and oh, that's twelve, I
regain that's a dozen donuts.
Speaker 11 (51:29):
That's a dozen donuts. I'm in, Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (51:32):
And then listen, I just hope the first donut you're
not still holding on to after they.
Speaker 12 (51:37):
Win the twelfth yet, but before to the parking lot,
I'll have that down way to go Kroger.
Speaker 11 (51:44):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (51:45):
Oh. The Cats open the season against Southern Miss Saturday
at seven forty five inside Kroger Field. Our coverage begins
at five point thirty with the Jack Burford Chevrolet countdown
to kick off. I'm joined by Christy Thomas. She'll be
alongside Jeremy Jarm and Logan Stenberg on our pregame coverage
and also Keith Farmer from BBN tonight WLAX eighteen and
(52:07):
he'll be getting you set for the action all week
long with bb in tonight and also BBN Game Day
on Saturday morning. Football is not the only thing getting
started this week. We've hinted at it. Let's talk about it.
Volleyball gets started tomorrow night on a neutral court in Louisville,
playing number two Nebraska, big matchup Top ten. Nebraska is
a very proud program in the sport of volleyball. We
(52:28):
know about it, and the Cats match up with him
tomorrow night.
Speaker 12 (52:32):
Well, and don't think if you were to go on
UK Athletics dot com and look up the volleyball schedule,
you're not. Your eyes do not deceive you. You are
seeing what that's real. What you're looking at is real
and you can hardly believe what you're looking at because
Craig Skinner is doing it. I mean, if you want
to see some high level volleyball, go watch Kentucky play.
I mean, this is incredible what they're doing, and he's
(52:53):
doing it, you know, by design, and this isn't like
Oh my gosh, who did this schedule?
Speaker 11 (52:57):
This is like we it's by design.
Speaker 12 (52:59):
And he's on this last year as well too, getting
this team ready for postseason and figuring out what who
are we and who are we going to be to
get ourselves ready to make a run.
Speaker 11 (53:09):
And they did just that last year, so this is great.
Speaker 13 (53:12):
Yeah, he said, it's it's not you know, what are
you gonna learn from a team that's just knocking it
out of bound? It's not getting serves in that kind
of thing. He said, we know we got to win
every point against Nebraska and teams like that. I mean,
this would be like Kentucky men's basketball playing you know, Duke,
North Carolina, Looisville in Michigan State North Carolina all in
the same season, right, like just it's unreal.
Speaker 11 (53:32):
And the great venue, so this will be yeah, this
will be a really.
Speaker 13 (53:35):
And it's on ESPN too, so they love that they're
getting the eyeballs out there. The ABC A doing a
great job setting up this showcase. So it's really neat.
Speaker 1 (53:43):
And Nebraska is the program that has continued to grow
volleyball along with Texas and Kentucky. They played at the
Football Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska last year sold it out.
Speaker 11 (53:53):
It's incredible, unbelievable, credible, So cool for the sport though,
I mean, what a what a great thing for the sport.
Speaker 1 (53:59):
And this weekend fans, if you don't go to Louisville,
you'll get a chance to see the Cats open Memorial
Coliseum this weekend. Friday, August thirtieth, the Cat's host Northern
Kentucky at six thirty in the Bluegrass Battle, and then
Saturday they'll take on Western Kentucky and finish up Sunday
against Morehead State. So three chances to see the Cats
(54:19):
volleyball team this weekend starting Friday, August thirtieth, opening Memorial Coliseum.
And then you look ahead to their SEC schedule, although
I don't want to gloss over the non conference kent
State is coming down the way. Yeah, that match, by
the way, is on Friday, September sixth. But the early
conference schedule, guys, the second SEC game is a trip
(54:42):
to Gainesville to take on Florida Sunday, September twenty ninth.
Oklahoma comes to Lexington in early October. Texas comes to
Lexington Sunday October thirteenth, and that has followed immediately with
a trip to Knoxville to take on a top twenty
five Tennessee team.
Speaker 13 (54:59):
The thing I love about, though you brought it up already,
was those first three games. You're opening up the historic
Memorial Coliseum against three in state programs. Yeah, that's so
cool to see him do that. That's great, great job
by Craig Skinner.
Speaker 11 (55:11):
Yeah, I love that.
Speaker 1 (55:12):
What excites you the most about the volleyball team this
year there are some stars that are back from last year,
so he's got a talented squad getting ready to take
on this schedule.
Speaker 13 (55:20):
I think one thing is new coaching that's come in
and I'm hearing that they love what is going on there.
I think they're going to be playing a little bit
differently than we've seen them recently. And then you still
got the players back like Brooklyn Delay and emmcgrome and
Aaron Lamb and.
Speaker 1 (55:39):
Moly Tuzzo.
Speaker 13 (55:40):
You know, I mean you can bring back I know, right,
I mean, yeah, exactly who should have been the player
of the year wasn't I mean, you know, so hopefully
he's got a little chip on our shoulder, a little
something she wants to say, you can't take this year's
away from that kind of thing.
Speaker 1 (55:53):
And the SEC is going to grow. And volleyball Vanderbilt
previously did not have a team. They now have one
and it is some four Kentucky assistant coaches leading that program.
Don is that?
Speaker 10 (56:03):
I mean?
Speaker 12 (56:03):
Really, anders Nelson did such a great job here as
an assistant, so to see him be able to and
that that's no small feet to take something from from
absolutely nothing to something. And kudos to Vandy for adding
on a team. I think this is great. So wish him,
wish him a ton of success.
Speaker 10 (56:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (56:20):
So volleyball opens their season against Nebraska tomorrow night in Louisville.
That game, by the way, if you can't make it
to the Young Center, will air on ESPN two and
it starts at seven pm Kentucky and Nebraska.
Speaker 13 (56:34):
And the second game is after that or before that,
after that Wisconsin and Louisville.
Speaker 1 (56:38):
Yeah, after that. Okay, Yeah, we've got just about a
minute left. We've already asked Logan what he wants to
see this week for football against Southern Miss. Keith, what
are you looking for out of the wildcast this week?
Speaker 13 (56:47):
I think you know, the main thing is on the
offensive side. I think we all feel pretty good about defense.
I just want to see how this offense looks and
how much they have grasped it. Again, he mentioned the
lights going on, right, so I want to see the
lights come on. How have they grasped? How does it
work from Bush being up in the in the box
to getting the plays down and get him executed?
Speaker 1 (57:07):
Christie about thirty seconds? What do you want to send mine?
Speaker 12 (57:09):
Quick, Bud, because I'll say this, you can't go twelve
and h until you go one and other. That's really
all I care about.
Speaker 1 (57:13):
Do we get the dub the dot get and I'm gonna.
Speaker 12 (57:17):
Go Kroger and get a donut. Listen, I will video
that and put that on on X y'all better believe it.
Speaker 1 (57:23):
Again special thanks to Logan Stenberg joining us here on
