Peace that remains when everything else falls apart—sounds impossible, doesn't it? Yet that's exactly what Jesus promised when He said, "In this world you will have trouble, but take heart! I have overcome the world."

This devotional unpacks the profound difference between the world's temporary relief and the unshakable peace Christ offers. We explore how genuine peace isn't the absence of problems but the presence of Jesus in the midst of them. This distinction changes everything about how we face our challenges, from morning chaos to unexpected difficulties throughout our day.

When peace is found in a person rather than a circumstance, it transforms how we respond to life's pressures. Instead of matching the energy of chaos around us, we bring something different into every room—His presence. Our calm becomes our testimony. Our steady spirit becomes a safe space for others. And in those moments when someone asks how we're holding together, we get to point them to the source of our strength.

The most powerful revelation? Peace loves to fill empty hands that once held stress. It flourishes on the other side of surrender. When we loosen our grip on control and lay our burdens at Jesus' feet, we create space for Him to move in ways we never could on our own.

Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or simply seeking deeper spiritual grounding, this episode offers practical ways to walk in peace—not just as a concept, but as a lived reality that flows from relationship with the Prince of Peace Himself.

Ready to trade fragile, fleeting calm for firm, deep, and secure peace? Listen now and discover how to remain anchored, regardless of what storms come your way.

Speaker 0 (00:00):
Welcome to Faith Unplugged.
I am your host, daisy, and I amglad to be hosting this episode
of our midweek devotional, apart of the Compass Chronicles
podcast.
I'm so glad you're joining metoday as we step into this
sacred space together.
This is our moment in themiddle of the week to set aside
the rush, the noise, theconstant demands of life and
simply rest in the presence ofGod.
Today we're talking about peace, but not just any peace, not

(00:23):
the kind that comes and goesdepending on how our day's going
.
We're digging into the kind ofpeace Jesus talks about in John,
chapter 16, verse 33.
I have told you these things sothat in me, you may have peace
In this world.
You will have trouble, but takeheart, I have overcome the
world.
It's the kind of peace thatstays with you in traffic,
intense conversations, inuncertainty and even in

(00:43):
suffering.
It's not fragile or fleeting.
It's firm, deep and securebecause it's rooted in him.
But before we dive in, let'sinvite God into this moment
together.
Jesus, thank you for today.
As we open your word in ourhearts, help us to hear your
voice over the noise.
Let your peace calm the stormsinside us.
Remind us that you've alreadyovercome the world and that
changes everything.

(01:03):
In your name we pray amen.
Let's face it, peace feelselusive sometimes, doesn't it?
Especially in the mornings, when everything seems to hit all
at once.
Maybe you woke up alreadyfeeling behind.
The alarm didn't go off, thekids are grumpy, your phone has
five new notifications and noneof them are encouraging.
The world has a way of shoutingat us before we've even taken
our first deep breath.

(01:23):
But Jesus whispers somethingvery different into that chaos.
He says I have told you thesethings so that in me you may
have peace.
Not in your schedule, not inyour routine, not even in your
circumstances.
In him, that little phrase ispacked with power.
Because here's the thing Jesusisn't surprised by our troubles.
He doesn't try to pretend thatlife will be all sunshine and

(01:44):
smooth sailing.
He says it straight in thisworld you will have trouble.
That's a promise too.
But it's not the kind we hangon our walls or write in cursive
on a mug.
It's raw and real and itresonates.
Life is hard.
There are seasons when peacefeels more like a luxury than a
reality.
But Jesus never meant for us togo looking for peace in all the
wrong places.
His peace isn't the absence ofproblems, it's the presence of

(02:07):
Him in the middle of them.
That's what makes it differentfrom anything the world offers.
And let's be honest, most of ushave tried the world's version
of peace the five-minute socialmedia scroll, the comfort food,
the deep dive into distractions, and while those things might
give temporary relief, theydon't satisfy that deeper ache,
the one that longs to be held, understood and calmed by
something greater.
Only Jesus meets us there withpeace that stays.

(02:30):
Think about this If Jesus hasovercome the world and he has
then every challenge we'rewalking into today is already
under his authority.
That doesn't mean the challengegoes away, but it does mean we
don't walk into it powerless.
We go in with God anchoring us.
That's why this verse is such alifeline it invites us to shift
our focus from what'soverwhelming to the one who
already overcame.

(02:50):
If we start the day with thattruth, it doesn't change what
we're facing, but it does changehow we face it.
So, right now, whatever's aheadof you, whatever is pulling at
your piece, take a second topause and remember jesus has
already overcome.
You are not stepping into theunknown alone, you are stepping
into it with the one who hasalready declared victory.
That truth won't erase everystress, but it will steady you.

(03:11):
Let's build on that truth.
If peace is found in him and heis with you, then your peace is
never far away.
Think about that for a second.
Jesus doesn't hand you peacelike a package and then waves
goodbye.
He is peace.
Isaiah, chapter 9, verse 6, evencalls him the prince of peace.
That means when you're walkingwith Jesus, you're walking with
peace itself.
So why does it still feel sohard to feel peaceful?

(03:33):
I think it's because we oftenforget that peace is a
relationship, not a result.
We treat peace like a reward weget after we've done enough,
fixed enough or planned enough.
But Jesus says in me you mayhave peace.
That means it's available rightnow.
What if we stopped chasingpeaceful circumstances and
started choosing peacefulcloseness with Jesus?
That kind of shift wouldradically change the way we do

(03:54):
life, because instead ofmeasuring peace by how quiet or
stress-free our day is, we'dmeasure it by how close we feel
to him.
Even in scripture, the mostpeaceful people weren't those
who had easy lives.
They were the ones who stayedclose to God in the middle of
chaos.
Think about Daniel in thelion's den, or Paul in prison,
or Jesus asleep on a stormy boat.
Peace doesn't mean the absenceof trouble.

(04:15):
It means the presence of trust.
And that trust deepens when westay connected to Jesus
throughout the day, not just inour morning devotion, but in
those little in-between moments, the short prayer while waiting
in line, the whispered help me,lord before a conversation, the
pause to breathe and rememberI'm not doing this alone.
There's something incrediblypowerful about making Jesus part

(04:35):
of our moment-to-momentawareness.
It's not always about formalprayers or long devotionals.
It's about communion, aconstant turning of the heart
toward the one who never leaves.
In that quiet turning, peacecomes rushing in.
And don't forget, peace is alsocontagious.
When you carry it, others feelit.
Your calm becomes a testimony, your steady spirit becomes a

(05:06):
safe space.
The world needs that kind ofpeace.
Your home needs it, yourworkplace needs it and you have
access to it, not because you'vefigured we live right.
So how does peace show up whenlife gets messy?
It shows up in your responses,in the way you talk to others,
in how you treat yourself, inwhat you choose to focus on.
Peace isn't just a feeling yousit with.
It's a fruit of the spirit thatgrows in you and spills out
into your world.
Let's say you get blindsided bya problem today, a text that

(05:28):
throws off your plans, a momentof conflict, a reminder of
something you're dreading.
That's the moment when Jesus'promise becomes powerful,
because peace gives you thepower to pause, to stop reacting
out of panic or frustration, tochoose a different response.
It helps you say wait, I don'tneed to spiral, I don't need to
fix this on my own.
Jesus has overcome this too.

(05:48):
Peace reframes your challenges.
It doesn't minimize them, butit puts them in perspective.
It helps you remember.
This is hard, but it's nothopeless.
This is stressful, but it's notthe whole story, and when that
becomes your mindset, it changeshow you walk through your day.
You speak more gently, youforgive faster, you make space
for grace, both for others andfor yourself.

(06:10):
One of the most powerful thingsyou can do today is let Jesus'
peace guide your reactions.
You don't have to match theenergy of the chaos around you.
You can bring somethingdifferent into the room.
You can bring his presence.
And here's the thing Sometimespeace looks like taking care of
your body and mind too.
Rest Sabbath Slowing down, saying no, turning off the noise
these aren't luxuries.

(06:31):
Slowing down, saying no,turning off the noise these
aren't luxuries.
They're spiritual practicesthat remind your soul.
It was never made to run onfear or hustle.
You were made to rest in God.
So today, maybe it's time tocreate your own peace plan.
What does it look like to stayrooted in him when stress hits?
Maybe it's a verse you memorizeand repeat.
Maybe it's a breath prayer likeJesus, bring your calm.
Maybe it's journaling yourworries and then writing Jesus,

(06:52):
you've overcome this.
Peace is a practice as much asit is a promise, and the more
you lean into it, the more itbecomes your default posture,
not because you've mastered it,but because you've surrendered
to the master.
So here's your invitation todayDon't just survive the day.
Walk through it with the onewho brings peace in every step.
Let him shape how you think, speak and move, and let others

(07:13):
see that peace and wonder whereit comes from, because that's
how jesus gets the glory.
And as we think more aboutwalking in peace, let's remember
peace doesn't always announceitself with fanfare.
Sometimes it shows up quietly.
It's the steady breath whenthings feel rushed.
It's the strength to bite yourtongue when you want to snap.
It's the ability to sit withtension without falling apart.
That's the kind of peace, thattongue when you want to snap.
It's the ability to sit withtension without falling apart.
That's the kind of peace thatgrows over time like a tree

(07:34):
planted by streams of water, roots deepening with every hard
moment surrendered to Jesus.
You see, peace isn't just forthe mountaintop moments when you
feel close to God.
It's for the hallway in between, the moments when you're
waiting, the awkward middle, theunresolved, the unsure.
That's where Jesus invites usto take heart, not because the
answer is already here, butbecause he is.
His peace walks with us evenwhen we don't know where the

(07:56):
path is leading, and it's okayto admit that we're still
learning how to live in thatpeace.
None of us have it perfectlyfigured out.
Some days we lean into it morethan others.
Some days we forget.
But the beautiful thing aboutJesus is he doesn't withdraw his
peace.
When we mess up, he gentlyreminds us come back.
I'm still here, my peace isstill yours.
What a comfort to know.

(08:16):
We don't have to earn it, wejust have to return to it.
So let me ask you this what'strying to steal your peace right
now?
Is it something unresolved, something unspoken, something
out of your control?
Can you name it?
And once you do.
Can you picture laying it downat Jesus' feet, not just
metaphorically, but reallylaying it down, closing your

(08:38):
eyes, breathing deeply andsaying Lord, this is yours.
I can't carry it, but I trustyou can, because here's the
secret that makes all thedifference Peace is often found
on the other side of surrender.
The moment we loosen our grip oncontrol, we make space for God
to move.
It doesn't mean the problemdisappears, but it does mean we
don't have to carry it alone andpeace loves to fill empty hands
.
That once held stress.
Now think about how powerful itis when someone else sees you

(08:59):
walking in that peace.
Maybe they know you're goingthrough something.
Maybe they've seen you wrestlewith anxiety, with loss, with
waiting, and yet you're steady, not fake, not emotionless, but
anchored.
They notice and that becomesyour witness.
Not just your words, but yourpeace becomes a living testimony
of Christ's presence in yourlife.
Peace evangelizes without evensaying a word.
It draws people in, it makesthem curious, it cracks open a

(09:22):
door for conversation and whenthey ask, how are you holding it
together, you get to smilegently and say honestly it's
Jesus, I've given it to him.
That moment can open hearts.
It might not happen right away, but seeds are planted when
peace is present.
Let's also not forget that peaceis a weapon.
It's how we fight the lies ofthe enemy, the ones that whisper
in your ear you're not enough,or this will never get better.

(09:44):
When we're rooted in christ'speace, we fight those lies with
truth.
We say I don't have to have allthe answers, because I know the
one who does.
That is spiritual warfare, thatis kingdom living, and that
kind of peace pushes backdarkness in ways we can't always
see.
So today, let your peace beactive, let it be bold.
Let it be the kind of peacethat doesn't just calm your
heart but shines outward, givinghope to someone else who's

(10:06):
still searching.
Let it flow freely, not becauselife is easy, but because Jesus
is faithful.
Let's close in prayer.
Jesus, thank you for being ourpeace, our strong, steady and
unshakable foundation.
Thank you that, no matter whatwe face today, you've already
overcome it.
Help us to stay close to you,to keep our eyes fixed on you
and to let your presence shapehow we move through this day.

(10:27):
Fill us with calm when we feelchaos and confidence when we
feel fear.
Let your peace not only hold usbut overflow into every part of
our lives.
In your powerful name we prayAmen.

presence and remember thatyou're never alone, even in the
deepest shadows.

spoken to you in some way, wouldyou consider sharing it with

(11:08):
someone you know?

It could be a blessing to themtoo.
