Speaker 1 (00:05):
Lots to say with Bobby Bones and Matt Castle is
a production of the NFL and iHeart Podcasts.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
We got lots to say, We got lots to say.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
What a backer and we hope you stay because we.
Speaker 4 (00:24):
Got lost to say.
Speaker 5 (00:27):
Yeah, we got lots to say. Now here's Bobby that.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Hey, what's up?
Speaker 4 (00:34):
Somebody's actually calling my front work right now. It's hey, Ree,
can you up and sign for that package? This is
what we're doing. Yeah, coming, hold on, he's gonna run
off Reid. Get it, get it. This is what when
you're working home. Yes, when you're working from home, ups
shows up while you're doing the show.
Speaker 6 (00:52):
Of course they are.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Yeah, and of course it needs a signature. It's probably
something that your wife about herself.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
I think it's honestly something because I spend way more
than her.
Speaker 6 (01:01):
Do you, I'm the exact opposite.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
Yeah, I spend way more than her. She doesn't. She
feels guilt about buying like expensive clothes, where I don't
feel guilt about anything. A lot of the stuff that
I buy, though, if I'm buying clothes for like TV
or something, I don't have swag. You write off your
outfits if I use it.
Speaker 6 (01:22):
Yeah, of course that's brilliant.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
I didn't come up with it. Like my business manager
was like, you're buying this for television, so you should
write it off.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
What about if I just wear stuff for the podcast,
like I could show up. I'm not giving you financial
device in a three piece suit.
Speaker 6 (01:35):
Next week I show up. I'm like, I wrote it off.
Bobby told me I could. I think you're good.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
Yes, I'm not one to give financial advice.
Speaker 7 (01:43):
I know.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
Yes, we will do sports conspiracies. Now. I've not told
Matt what the conspiracies are, but I'm gonna run and
buy you. We'll see if you believe them or if
they're fake. I like this what Matt is going to
do later and I don't know what his are. You're
bringing quarterback terminology and you're gonna make me less dumb. Okay,
and listeners, you're gonna tell you're gonna teach me things
(02:05):
that casual or mids aren't gonna know. But we're gonna
sound smarter if we happen to hear it and go
oh yeah, of course that's what that means.
Speaker 6 (02:13):
We've got it, guys.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Boom, Okay, I'm in my Matt Castle number seven, can't
City Chiefs jersey.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Rocking hard, looking good, Yeah, filling it out. I like
how this one looks on me better. I'm more of
a red.
Speaker 6 (02:22):
Guy, are you. Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:24):
See, I was always more of a blue guy, but
then red does pop on you.
Speaker 6 (02:27):
It really brings out your eyes. Hey, thanks, you're welcome.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
I got to wonder how it's to change a jersey
color and see yourself in a different jersey because you're
all blue. That Patriots jersey looks nothing one percent cheap jersey?
Is that weird?
Speaker 6 (02:40):
We're super weird.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
So I went from the Patriots, you know, pretty classic colors,
the Grays, the Navy blues.
Speaker 6 (02:46):
All that stuff patriotic.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Then I got to the Chiefs locker room and there's
my jersey and it's red on red on red right everywhere.
Speaker 6 (02:53):
And it just was one of those things that you
kind of have to get used to.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
I don't know if it's how the jersey catches yeai,
the colors, whatever it might be.
Speaker 6 (03:01):
It just took some time to get used to that.
And I changed my number.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Yeah, I'm for seven on right now, well sixteen Lynn
Dawson for the Chiefs. I didn't know that they retired it,
so they called me and said, hey, what number do
you want? I said sixteen and they go, ah, yeah,
that's been retired. I was like, yeah, I should have
probably done my research here. So they said, well, how
about seven because one plus six equals seven. I was like,
(03:24):
that's how they sold it to me. I was like, sure,
let's rock it.
Speaker 6 (03:27):
Seven's a great I mean great number as well.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
That's kind of how I was forced to my stupid
name Bobby Bones because it's not my real name. Bobby's
my real name. But I go in and they're like, well,
you don't want to use your real name, and I'm teenage,
I mean seventeen, eighteen years old.
Speaker 6 (03:41):
I'm like why not?
Speaker 4 (03:42):
And they're like, wow, that's stupid. Really yeah. I'm like,
well that's not right now. But also i'm a kid,
so and I just want to get on the air
and they say, you can be Bobby Z or Bobby Bones.
They gave me two options.
Speaker 6 (03:52):
Bones was definitely the better pick.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
I think so too. I never have really loved it
even now. I don't love it really because I feel
like a pirate or a porn star or something. It's
just something Bobby Z that doesn't feel it sounds more priority.
Bobby Z feels like I'm going to sell you some
like timeshare O something.
Speaker 6 (04:10):
You're definitely on an INFO commercial.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Yeah, like Bobby Z. Well let's get you to place.
Speaker 6 (04:13):
Bobby Z. I've got the gorilla grip here, read you sign?
Speaker 4 (04:18):
Oh you got do you know what it was? Just
leave it there. There's three packages whose name, my name,
and my wife's.
Speaker 6 (04:24):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
I appreciate that, buddy, he flew up there. We have
coming up in a few minutes, Jim Naggi, who runs
the REESEA Senior Bowl. But then after that, I took
a picture and I posted it on Instagram of me
in your Patriots jersey and you had your Cowboys jersey on,
and I said, hey, I will give away this Patriots
jersey if there's someone who's a big fan. So people
commented under it, and we have a listener on she wrote, Yes,
(04:48):
Boston Girl loved that. Matt included who's yours is one
of his favorites it's one of mine too, which means
two things. One Patriots fan and actually listen to the
podcast and.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Listen to the podcast like that was definitely in depth
analysis that we're giving right there.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
So we're gonna bring her on and that's cool. I
don't know what your raid is, but I'll have you sign.
Speaker 6 (05:03):
Up for her perfect.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
I love that one thousand bucks? Is that what your
rate is?
Speaker 3 (05:07):
Nine three?
Speaker 4 (05:08):
A couple of stories. One speaking of the Chiefs. Now,
this comes from the fan ninety six to five. The
Chiefs are leaning towards a move to Kansas, and it's
gaining momentum. By the time November rolls around, ground will
most likely have been broken in the state of Kansas
if that is the direction they decide to move in.
And then secondly, there's been talk of a dome in
(05:29):
Kansas City. You can't do well for the Chiefs because
Kansas City is in Kansas, but mostly in.
Speaker 6 (05:36):
Missouri, right on the Missouri side.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
Yeah, right, What do you think as a former chief
about moving it to Kansas and or doming the new
place if they build it?
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Well? Number one, I know that there's been always ongoing
discussion with the fan base, and also you know how
much money will the fans put up for a new
stadium and everything like that. So I'm sure that it's
one of those power plays by the Hunt family and
everybody else involved that are trying to rally the troops
around the idea of building a new stadium, and you know,
(06:08):
if they don't get the funding, then they possibly could
go to Kansas, which is understandable.
Speaker 6 (06:12):
It's not far away.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
Okay, Well, and that's the thing you make the exact point.
Kansas is going to spend money, the state of Kansas
to fund more of the stadium.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Exactly so that that could play out the way that
you're hearing it right now, because I know this has
been a discussion that was ongoing since right after I
left about redoing the stadium and getting funding from the
state itself through taxpayer money. And it's whether or not
they're willing to do it. Well, I'm guessing Kansas is
willing to do it because why would you not want
(06:41):
Super Bowl winning, especially at the height of a dynasty
the Kansas City Chiefs to be in your state.
Speaker 6 (06:46):
It kind of makes sense Kansas City.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
Yeah, Kansas would be like the Lakers getting Luca, Like
perfect time, you get the Chiefs right when they're awesome, Right,
I would love that.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
But the thing about Arrowhead, it's such a special stadium. Anybody,
any player that's ever been there understands how special that
player I mean places in terms of the noise level
and the experience itself. It's really a special place to
go and compete and play. And then if you dom
it though, it'll be just as loud. I mean, those
(07:16):
fans are passionate, they care about them. But at the
same time, I think that there's something to be said
about playing in the Elements and it's one of those
legendary stadiums in the Elements.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
Cold sucks.
Speaker 6 (07:28):
Cold sucks.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
I mean, I'm not a I would be an advocate
of it if I was a player to like domme
it up, But I just think it takes away from
the horror of arrowhead.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
Or all you want. I don't want to freeze myself
every time I go to a gar.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
You don't have to put on the wet suit. Yes, no,
whatsuit sucks.
Speaker 6 (07:44):
Oh gosh.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
One other headline Bills and wide receiver Kalishiker reached agreement
today on a four year contract. It's an extension worth
up to sixty million dollars thirty two million guaranteed, eighteen
million paid in the first twelve months. The deal ties
into Buffalo through the twenty twenty nine season. I will say,
in my opinion the Bills, which had quote no wide
receivers going into this year, no quote weapons For Josh Allen,
(08:08):
I think s Kirk came out of this really the
shining star of I don't think he would have got
the looks had they had other a number one, a
true alpha. Yeah, but I think he proved that he
can make some catches and make some plays.
Speaker 6 (08:23):
There's no doubt.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
I think when you look at this season and you
look at the weapons that they had on the outside,
he stood out amongst the rest and he was.
Speaker 6 (08:31):
A go to guy.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
There obviously was trust in chemistry with Josh Allen, and
he had an outstanding year. And when you go out
and you get that opportunity to perform the way that
he did, you get rewarded with a new contract. And
I'm sure if I'm Josh Allen, you're looking at what
you have on that roster. You're sitting there going we
need to bring this guy back. And that's a special
part about having a franchise quarterback like Josh Allen, because
(08:54):
when you have a guy like that, wide receivers want
to come play with a dude. And he's one of
the best quarterbacks in the league. He's obviously the MVP
of the league this year, and so to bring him
back into the fold, and then also they'll probably add
more pieces to the outside this this next offseason. It'll
be pretty special for that player.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
The Combine is this week in Indy. Now, you did
not go to the Combine, but I do have your
PRODA numbers. Oh gosh, I found them on the internet.
Speaker 6 (09:23):
I didn't run a good forty. I know that too hard.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
I don't know what a good forty would be though
for you, because this is something like bad. What do
you think you ran at your PRODA?
Speaker 6 (09:29):
Officially? Gosh, I want to say four to nine.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Four eight, Yes for eight eight, Yeah, that's pretty much
a four nine. But it's not. It's not a four
to nine.
Speaker 6 (09:41):
You know.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
The funny part is I trained so hard for that.
I went out and like was with a track coach
and did all these different you know, exercise get out
of the blocks.
Speaker 6 (09:49):
This, that and the other.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Still, when it came time, I've felt my heart pump
in your all adrenaline. I even wore I told you
I think this before I wore track spikes didn't really help.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
Did you run a faster forty in training? Do you remember, Yes,
I definitely ran a faster forty was it time the
same way?
Speaker 6 (10:08):
It was?
Speaker 3 (10:08):
Uh, hand and operated. Yeah, that's probably why I was
in the four sevens that day. I was like, can
you guys borrow this? Do we have any footage of this?
Can you just check this out?
Speaker 4 (10:17):
So you're sure the trainer wasn't gassing you up. You're
at four to six.
Speaker 6 (10:20):
That you're just he probably was.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
He's like, look, you've been training for three months, dude,
and we're at the same part of the same place
you were prior to coming to me, So I'm.
Speaker 6 (10:28):
Going to just gas you up right now. Vertical jump,
vertical jump.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
I think I was a thirty three, thirty four, so
you're not giving yourself enough credit. He's mister humble in life,
and on this show, thirty four is pretty good. Could
you dunk?
Speaker 3 (10:40):
No, I couldn't dunk. You give me a small ball
I could dunk.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
So it's probably two inches away.
Speaker 6 (10:45):
Probably two inches away.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
You never dunked?
Speaker 6 (10:47):
No, are you dunk?
Speaker 5 (10:49):
No?
Speaker 4 (10:49):
I'm two an avanage.
Speaker 6 (10:51):
Right, I know, But I got a caboose on me. Bro.
It just always weighted me down.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
But that's like a thrower's butt.
Speaker 6 (10:55):
Yeah, it is.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
It's not junk in the trunk. You have a thrower's butt. Yeah,
it was like c seed Sabbathia buttocks.
Speaker 6 (11:01):
Right, But I need I need the calves. See I was.
I went a big thigh, small skinny calfs didn't really
work for jumpers.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
When did you grow as a kid?
Speaker 3 (11:10):
So I was about six six' one my freshman, year
jumped to six three over the next two, years and
put on another inch my senior.
Speaker 6 (11:18):
Year what about your? Kids my, kids they're all pretty.
Speaker 4 (11:21):
Tall are they taller than you?
Speaker 6 (11:24):
Were?
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Matthew my son is really. Tall he might be one
of those kids that turn out to be like a six.
Niner my daughter's fourteen's of five. Ten my other daughter's,
thirteen she's five. Eight my Son, clay he's almost five
foot and he's only. Nine and then my Daughter, lily
she's really tall for her. GREADE i don't know where she,
is but, yeah my wife's six foot.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
Two and when you say you don't know where she,
is you mean you know where she. Is you don't know.
HER i don't know BECAUSE i we don't know where she.
Speaker 6 (11:51):
Has that's. Trouble hopefully she's stall at.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
School, yeah that would be a bad parenting decision by.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
Me my wife AND. I we do not have kids.
Yet we plan sometime soon to start trying to have
kids next year or. So But i've often Said i'd
like to name if we have a, boy the First,
Bobby and to her it's why would you want to
put that pressure on? Them this is the conversation we've. Had,
Yeah she's, like why would you want to put the
pressure on? Them and then secondly she's, like why don't
(12:15):
women like name their daughters after? Themselves did that? Never she's,
right that never, happened, True AND i, said, Well i'd
really like to have A. Bobby but then she, says
what about if you have another boy and he's not The,
bobby like the first, Kid? Matthew did you have that?
Speaker 6 (12:30):
Bog, Well i've got A Matthew.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
Junior and so we were going back and forth if
we had a, boy because we never found out until
we were in the i mean in the labor room
when they came, out whether it was a boy or.
Girl so we had always a girl name a boy.
Name AND i was, like you, know it's kind of
if we only have one, boy why don't we go with,
junior we had that same discussion and then but we'll
call him bear AND i was, like, well that kind
of defeats the purpose of call him after you as
(12:54):
a junior and you call him a, bear, right or
you call him.
Speaker 6 (12:57):
Bear so we went With.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
Matthew and at the end of the, DAY i was,
like the kids still will Be, matthew and, yes it
is what it.
Speaker 6 (13:05):
Is your dad did, this but he'll find his own.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
PATH i think that most juniors that you know have done.
That and then my Son clay came along and we
named Him clay and there has never been a discussion
between the two boys Like clay's never, like, dude why
don't you name Me matthew two or anything like.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
That The George foreman he has like All george's And.
Speaker 6 (13:22):
Georgina's that's pretty cool.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
THOUGH i like that. TOO i would Loved, YEAH i
would like.
Speaker 6 (13:26):
That it makes it.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
Easy bobby, One bobby, Two bobby, three like we're.
Speaker 6 (13:29):
Good It's bobby's.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
World it's just. Sequels it's not even different, kids just
sequels to the same one of.
Speaker 6 (13:33):
Them will one of them work out the follow on my?
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Footsteps, no it's just one of those where it was
just kind of came about with like what about a
junior and we went that direction and never thought twice about.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
It THE Nfl combine Starts. Thursday you can watch it
AN nfl network all week and, long and SO i
want to do some of These combine. Activities they'll be
doing some of the. Drills forty yard Dash Xavier worthy
holds the record with four point twenty, one which he
did in twenty twenty. Four the forty evaluated by itself
in a, vacuum, overrated, rated.
Speaker 6 (14:09):
Overrated or.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
UNDER i think it's overrated in some capacity because you
definitely see wide receivers that might have larger frames and
run a four to. FIVE a four to five is
not that much different than a four to. Four but
if you can go out and you turn on the
game field and this guy's a game changer and can
catch the, ball come out of his, brakes has intermediate,
quickness and all the different things that you look like
for a football.
Speaker 6 (14:28):
Player and that's the hard.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
Part when you do these, measurables it's just a measurable and,
yes you have explosive, speed but does that. Translate We've
i've played with guys that were drafted in the second
round that ran a four to.
Speaker 6 (14:39):
Three they couldn't play.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Football so the first thing That i'm doing as evaluator
Is i'm turning on the. Tape i'm, saying does this
guy love? Football does he hustle every single? Play is
he a guy that understands the game because you can
see for a wide receiver in, particular is it man versus?
Zone can he win one on one matchups when there
when he's locked up against a good. Corner so that's
(15:01):
the most important. Aspect, now if you go out there
and they're expecting you run a four or five and
you run four to, eight well that might say something
about you and your, preparation how you, train and that
you just don't give, it you.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
KNOW i feel like at, times if you run a great,
forty you can jump around or two rounds for no
reason other than your, fast which usually doesn't end. Well, Right,
like if you're, Drafting, wow he's so much faster than we.
THOUGHT I, mean there are a few PLAYERS i can
think of that were drafted just for speed and it
took them years to. ADJUST i think even With Xavier,
(15:33):
worthy he was like he's just going to run straight
line and he developed out of necessity into a better
receiver because they had nobody for a while that she's
really struggle with having wide receivers because everybody got. Hurt but,
YEAH i think. They i'm with. You my opinion doesn't
hold the weight yours. Does BUT i think the forty
yard dash is given a little too much.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
Weight and the, guys as soon as they get done
with football, season they go right into training just these.
Drills they're not doing as much football oriented stuff other
than if you're a quarterback you're throwing to wide, receivers
you're working on your footwork and all that. Stuff And
i'm sure they're all doing that because they do do
football related, drills don't get me, wrong but these specific,
drills the three, cone the twenty yard, shuttle the sixty yard.
(16:13):
Shuttle these guys have been training for months just for
this one, event so they're trying to get prepared so
that they can shine right when they're time's. CALLED i
did that for THE act. TEST i literally just studied
THE act. TEST i crushed, it BUT i just studied the.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
Test, right wasn't the, material it wasn't all the things
they could ask. YOU i literally Studied act theory and
really and. CHEATED i mean didn't, cheat but, yeah it
was like, this like you just trained to do the
combine things so you score better at the. COMBINE i
did that with the. ACT i have two. More The wonderlick.
Test there's a punter who scored Perfect Pat mechanalely from
(16:51):
nineteen seventy. Five now The Wonder lick isn't used near
as much as it, was, right but how do you
feel about the Wonder? Licking did you take?
Speaker 6 (16:56):
It?
Speaker 3 (16:56):
Well it's funny BECAUSE i went in for protay AND i,
said AS i told you, BEFORE i showed up probably
about five minutes timas after they had started the one under,
like WHICH i didn't know that they were starting the Wonder.
LIKE i THOUGHT i was going there just to do
these drills that you're, saying the vertical, jump you, know
the twenty five to twenty five bench, press and they're,
like you're not even on my. LIST i was, like,
WELL i was a senior quarterback here and could you
(17:18):
let me take? It and they're, like, well there's only
fifteen minutes, left so go in. There SO i went in,
there and you, know it's some of it's really easy
questions that anybody could. Answer but then they start doing
like the word problems and, this that and the, other
and so they're trying to see your aptitude and how
you adjust to certain. Questions AND i think in some
capacity it's, overrated just BECAUSE i don't think a lot
(17:40):
of guys are thinking they're going to have to go
take an intelligence test as much as let me tell
you WHAT i know about, football the game that you're
recruiting me. For it's like having somebody come in for
a job interview and not asking them anything about the
job that they're about to do and what their skill set.
Is instead you're doing some obscure thing and seeing how
they respond to.
Speaker 4 (17:59):
That you just give them that triangle from cracker barrel
where you jumped it right where you jump the t's
where you go sitting there and sambitdeen up one or
two left a final. One the quarterbacks throwing doing the
on field throwing in the. Workouts how valuable is? That
could you're seeing some of the guys not do? It your, thoughts,
WELL i.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
Think it's valuable because, again you've got a lot of
eyes on, you and also the guys that compete at
THE NFL i mean. COMBINE i believe that all the
scouts and the evaluators and the, coaches they like to
see the fact that they get out there and they
want to compete against their, peers and then it's mostly
they're looking at, footwork arm, strength those different types of.
Speaker 6 (18:40):
Elements that does this.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Translate and, again you're throwing in, shorts you're throwing on,
Air you're not going against. Competition so take that with
a grain of. Salt But i'll take a great. Example
it was It Anthony richardson for The. Colts he's a
guy that went out, there threw the ball outstanding and
really performed well from a testing, standpoint AND i don't
(19:02):
think anybody thought he was going to go as high
as he. Did but they are, like this guy is.
Special he's a special, athlete he's got a special. Arm
if we can develop them into a, player we might
catch that lightning in a. Bottle and so this is
an opportunity for them to increase their draft. Stock at
the same, time there'll be other guys that might misthrows
and get over critique that they might lose a little
(19:23):
bit of that momentum and have to work themselves back
up BECAUSE i think the higher draft status you, have
the more ability that you have to, drop because everybody
wants to critique this throw or critique your footwear and
find weaknesses in your. Game whereas guys that just go
out there and rip it and let it. Fly that's
how they raise their draft stock and can get higher
(19:45):
and higher in the.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
DRAFT i think if you cannot rise because of an
excellent performance business, speaking you probably should not. THROW i
know that's not the winter. Mentality but IF i were
cam or should or and they can go through perfect
and not lift their status at, all why WOULD i
go and risk myself to drop when there is no
ability to.
Speaker 6 (20:05):
Gain that's a great.
Speaker 4 (20:07):
Point so and aside from, that at the, combine you're
throwing to receivers who you don't, know you have no
communication with leading into. It they're randomly lined, up they
run a wrong, route you could look. Stupid there's a
lot of things that can. Happen now that's only for
the players that cannot. Rise IF i Were ship or A,
CAMERAORD i would not. Throw they're still having their pro, days, Right.
Speaker 6 (20:30):
And that's the biggest.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
Thing and that's exactly the point that you're making a
lot of the high profile quarterbacks won't throw at the,
combine but they'll go do all the interviews and get
to know people and introduce themselves and have that. Conversation
but then they have their pro, day and that pro
day is something that they've scripted, out they've.
Speaker 6 (20:48):
Been working on that they've been working with those wide.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Receivers they're, comfortable they understand body, language and so these
throws they've done hundreds of times already Before Pro, day so.
Speaker 6 (20:57):
You're going to get the best version of.
Speaker 4 (20:59):
Themselves we're going to go and talk To Jim. Naggy
into the Second Matt Bobby lots to say back in a.
Second we're about to talk With Jim, nagi the executive
(21:22):
director Of Reese's Senior, bowl and he's had all these,
guys so we'll talk about a lot of the. Players
how do you Know.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
Jim he actually was a scout With New England patriots
WHEN i got To New, england and then When Scott
pioli took the job In Kansas, city he came with
him as one of the scouts For Kansas. City so
he was actually with me for my first eight years
in THE nfl in the scouting. Department in the player personnel.
Department he's a great. Guy obviously he's brilliant because maybe
(21:49):
he had some impact of me getting.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
Drafted he four Time Super bowl, champion eighteen YEAR nfl,
scout took over as the executive director of The Senior
bowl in twenty, eighteen and Like matt, says was a
scout for The patriots when they Drafted Matt and let's
have him now On instagram At Jim Naggy UNDERSCORE. Sb
here he Is Jim. Naggy, Hey, jim thank you so
(22:12):
much for the. Time you are at the epicenter of,
football college AND nfl right, now so we're super. Pumped
you took a few minutes with. US i would like
to start through and just go back in time into
the time machine a player by the name Of Matthew. Castle,
like what do you remember about the scouting Of Matthew.
Castle he is.
Speaker 7 (22:29):
One of the all time draft.
Speaker 5 (22:31):
Hits, right we always talk About Draft boston And Matt
castle got, it never started in college and went on
to become a really SUCCESSFUL nfl. Starter that's a that's
a hell of a draft pick in the seventh. Round,
no WHAT i WHAT i remember most About matt especially
going back To New england is when he was a young.
Guy just the confidence that he had in the in the,
Teammates LIKE i remember going down in the cafeteria and
(22:52):
guys just kind of gravitating To, matt and, uh he
just kind of had that that hit factor to, him you.
Know and And Tom brady was well established at that,
point but when you bring in a young, backup it's
cool when they've got that to. Him so, yeah and
then we THEN i went To Kansas city With Scott
pioli and we traded For. Matt SO i was With
matt at a couple different, places and it's cool to
be on with.
Speaker 6 (23:12):
Him, Jim you're my. Hero thank you for drafting.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
Me and, also CAN i just ask this, question how
did you evaluate? Me and how did were you guys
able to Convince Bill belichick, like, hey we should just
take this guy in the seventh. Round you had no
film to go off. OF i threw thirty two passes
in all of.
Speaker 6 (23:28):
College that's.
Speaker 5 (23:30):
MORE i thought it was, Seventeen so that's fifteen more
THAN i. Thought SO i wasn't, NO i wasn't responsible
for The West. COAST i was in The midwest at that,
point trying to remember who Our West coast guy was back.
Then BUT i know it Didn't josh, McDaniels go work
you out before the draft run this.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
Time, no that's the funny part about. IT i Think
Matt russell was The West coast guy that came out and.
Watch and this is another QUESTION i have for. You
when you do have somebody that you want to get
drafted and you're in that war, room do you stand
on the table for that player and try to influence
coaches or gms or whoever it might be to make that.
Speaker 7 (24:05):
Pick you're, right it was it Was Matt.
Speaker 5 (24:07):
RUSSELL i remember.
Speaker 7 (24:08):
That no one. THING i do Remember.
Speaker 5 (24:10):
Matt you played on some special, teams AND i remember
us talking about, that you, know just like you, know
what a competitor you were and what a, selfish selfless
teammate you were that you wanted to just like find
any role to get on the damn. Field so that
that really impressed us going back in your in your.
History but uh, YEAH i mean in terms of getting
on the, table you have to do that stuff the right.
Way AND i think that's what you know that going
(24:32):
way back in, time those early years In New.
Speaker 7 (24:34):
ENGLAND i was a young.
Speaker 5 (24:35):
SCOUT i MEAN i THINK i was in my late
twenties at the, time.
Speaker 7 (24:37):
And uh date.
Speaker 5 (24:38):
Myself but, uh you, know and those are the things
you learn kind of tricks in the trade and, like you,
know how how to you, know how to go about
lawyer and up on a, player because that's what it.
Is you get into draft meetings and and everybody's got
a different take on a, player so you really got
to you, know kind of argue your case and then
and then create support for the. Players so there's the
right way of doing it and there's the wrong way
(24:58):
of doing. It but but, uh you, know that's what
the teams are paying you. For you're out on the,
road although you, know spending all those hours away from your.
Family if you don't go back to the building with you,
know with a bunch of guys that you want to
be on that football, team you probably weren't doing your job.
Right so, yeah you certainly you certainly fight the. Case
and is a young scout that's how you make your.
Name you push for enough guys that end up making
(25:21):
it at your place or you, know teams track this
if they you, know you push for a player and
you don't draft and or sign, him but he goes
somewhere else and becomes a really good. Player the teams
take notice of. That the powers that, be the, gms
the head, coaches they remember that. Stuff so, yeah it absolutely.
Speaker 4 (25:36):
Happens i'd like to draw a parallel or have you do.
It being the executive director of The Senior bowl now
The Resa's Senior, BALL i want to get, that make
sure we get the sponsor name in, there of course
that you. Mentioned and SO i talked To scott a
few weeks ago AND i was talking to him About.
Matt he mentioned the same, thing the special. Teams what
parallel would you? Draw can you pick a player now
that is used or has been able to be used
(25:59):
in a lot of different places where that's a value
going into the next?
Speaker 7 (26:02):
Draft oh you mean in this year's?
Speaker 4 (26:04):
Class, yeah, yes somebody who's who's done a lot of
different things and that's you, know a benefit to drafting.
Speaker 6 (26:10):
Them.
Speaker 5 (26:10):
SURE i mean when you when you say, THAT i
mean there's always there's always offensive linemen really in defensive
linemen that are really the most, positioned. Versatile and one
guy that comes to mind is a dude From North
Kota state Named Grey's. Abel you, know they've got a,
long long history of offensive lineman coming out Of North Kota.
State in, scouting you're not supposed to quote unquote scout the,
(26:31):
helmet but, man when you when you see those, buys
That bison offensive line, LINEAGE i mean it, matters you.
Speaker 6 (26:37):
Know.
Speaker 5 (26:37):
There we had a guy in the senior world a
couple of years, Ago Cody, mauk long red, hair no front,
teeth he looked like a, viking went in the second
round of The Tampa Bay bucks and it has become
a really good player In.
Speaker 7 (26:49):
Tampa you, KNOW i.
Speaker 5 (26:50):
Think he's you, know as great at os being one
of the top five guards in the league this year
and that YEAR i Thought cody was the only guy
in the league in that draft class that could play
all five offensive line. Spots he actually did that here
In mobile and this. Year the kid's name Is Gray's.
Abel And gray was just down here a few weeks,
ago and.
Speaker 7 (27:07):
You played every. Spot he played.
Speaker 5 (27:09):
Center he's really a, tackle you, know a tackle by
trade At North Akota, state but he played, guard he played.
Speaker 7 (27:15):
Center so that's really. Cool.
Speaker 5 (27:17):
Man you get into AN nfl season and you're only
carrying you, know eight or nine offensive linemen on the,
roster and you know maybe only seven or eight on game.
Speaker 7 (27:25):
Day you get in a.
Speaker 5 (27:26):
Pinch you got to have guys that can move. Around,
so As matt knows that mantras has always been the
more you can, do and if you can play all five,
spots that's a pretty cool calling.
Speaker 3 (27:36):
Card, jim talk to me about the week of The Senior,
bowl because obviously they play in the, game but when
the evaluators are looking at these players and they come
to The Senior, bowl is it one of those situations
that the week of, preparation the week of practice is
almost more important for evaluators than the actual.
Speaker 7 (27:55):
Game that's a good, Question.
Speaker 5 (27:57):
MATT i, know that's kind of like the popular, narrative
right because you, know most of the teams get up
here and Leave mobile On, friday because our interviews end on,
night so in so do. Practices so you, know most
of THE nfl guys get out of. Town most teams
will have at least a scout or two maybe stick
around for the. Game but what gets lost in that
is they go back to the facility and they wear
(28:18):
the damn tape out the game tape out like you wouldn't.
Speaker 7 (28:20):
Believe BUT i don't. KNOW i, mean the.
Speaker 5 (28:22):
Practice week is certainly really. Important and why is that?
Important for a couple of. Reasons, ONE i, mean it's
good on, good you, know it's it's the best of
the best from around college. Football we've had over eighty
percent of the draft of the last five drafts playing the.
Game so you, know you can even play to school
LIKE usc or a big boy program like. That and
depending on what position you, PLAY i, mean you might
(28:45):
not go up against a REAL nfl guy the entire
season or maybe one or, two you, know and then you,
know down here.
Speaker 7 (28:51):
You go in rep after rep after. Rep so those.
Speaker 5 (28:54):
Reps are really, important just seeing how guys, compete how
they learn, it how they take coaching on the. FIELD
i tell our players all the, time like you're gonna
get beat down.
Speaker 7 (29:03):
Here you. Know Aaron, Dine like we just Saw zach and.
Speaker 5 (29:05):
Retired he was in the Same Senior bowl As Aaron,
donald and those two guys had some epic battles and
they were beating each other. Up and you, know it's
not if you lose a, rep because you're gonna lose.
REPS i tell all the, players it's how you bounce.
Back you, know you've got head coaches and gms down
on the field and that's what they're paying attention for.
There they're looking at body, language they're looking at facial
expression when you get, beat and how you bounce back
(29:27):
that next. Rep so that that stuff's all really important
because that's stuff you don't see on. Tape and then
the other value to The Senior bowl when people ask
you know what you, know how do you get guys
From Ohio state And georgia And michigan in these programs
to come play in the, Game and not trying to
disparage the scouting community at, all because that's that's. Me
that's WHO i was for you, know twenty years AND
(29:49):
i still see myself as as a scout at. Heart
but it's a lot more valuable when you get the
decision makers seeing you in. Person so you, know again
you talk about pounding the table and getting on the
table for. PLAYERS i know from a scouting, perspective it
was a lot easy for easier for me to sell
a player to someone Like Scott pioli if he had
(30:09):
seen him at The Senior. Bowl, Right, like there's we're
all just Human, like there's a level of buy in
when you see it. Yourself so you, know to have
these guys that are making the picks In april be
up close and personal with these players for you, know
for an entire, week that's really. Impactful so you, know
WHEN i talked to agents AND i talk to players
and their, families that's that's really my main pitch is
(30:30):
that these gems and head coaches are just normal guys
and they're, trying in a short period of, time trying
to get familiar.
Speaker 7 (30:36):
With a group of.
Speaker 5 (30:36):
Players and you, know why would you pass up an
opportunity when you've got all these thirty two you know
teams with all their decision makers you, know down here
hanging out with you for the.
Speaker 4 (30:45):
Week it looks Like tier one is going to Be
shutar And cam.
Speaker 6 (30:49):
When it comes to the.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
Quarterbacks but it's that second layer where they're predicting these
guys to fall at all different. PLACES i Think Jackson
dart is the one THAT i mean everywhere from a
mid first round pick into the second. Round can you
tell me About Jackson dart and what makes them special
and what will make him rise up the draft?
Speaker 5 (31:07):
Board, yeah it's a it's a great Question jackson. Is
he does seem like a guy that's gaining. MOMENTUM i
kind of feel like the media is is getting onto.
THAT i think the league was a little head of
ahead of. That, yeah he's a he's got a lot
of really cool stuff when you just break him, Down
he's got, Size he's a really good.
Speaker 7 (31:25):
Athlete you, know.
Speaker 5 (31:26):
He's got very good, mobility kind of Like matt was
a bigger quarterback and he Had matt's a lot bigger
Than jackson, was but you, know good athlete for his.
Size he's got a live. Arm he's just you, know
and he's been through. ADVERSITY i think for a long time,
NOW nfl teams have been trying to drill down on
what guys have overcome in, life you, know and again
bringing that back To, MATT i, Mean matt overcame a lot,
(31:46):
mentally you, know mental toughness trying to get through his
career AT usc and you, know you saw in the
last year's draft, CYCLE i think they really started to
do that with the quarterback. Position you, know maybe that's
something the league ignored for a, while was really drilling
down in the mental toughness and uh AND i think
we saw with Bo. Nicks you, know you, try a
lot of these quarterbacks had the easy. Road you, know
(32:06):
they've always been the best players in high school and
college and you know then they get to the pros
and stuff hits the fan a little bit and they
don't know how to react where you, know with Bone
nicks last, year he was you, know went through a
lot At. Auburn we saw, that you, know having a
lot of pressure on him following his dad's, footsteps you,
know having it not turn out great after a second,
year and then going To, Eugene oregon and you, know reinventing.
(32:28):
Himself and that's kind of What Jackson dart had to,
do you, know starting off THE usc and being the
starter as a freshman and then you, know having to
go out To oxford and kind of refined himself in
a different part of the. Country so he's bet the
teams know he's been through some. Stuff so you, know
the biggest thing For jackson And mobile was, was you,
know WHEN i say this in all respect To Tulane,
kiffin was seeing him operate outside of the ole miss
(32:50):
offense because.
Speaker 7 (32:51):
You, know talking to a lot of guys in the
league HAD.
Speaker 5 (32:53):
I had one buddy who's an ASSISTANT gm tell me
this fall that like Watching jackson on, tape was watching
routes on air a. Lot it'll.
Speaker 7 (33:01):
MISS i, mean guys are just running.
Speaker 5 (33:02):
Wide it's open and you know there's there's not the
small ways and didn't have to anticipate like you have
to at the next. Level and so to come down
to The Senior bowl and play in a REAL nfl
style offense with you, know you know all those things you,
know you, know more accuracy.
Speaker 7 (33:17):
And and things.
Speaker 5 (33:19):
Of that nature helped. Him so he's a he's a
really cool he's a really cool. Prospect and like you,
said like that that range you gave, HIM i MEAN
i would air towards the high side of, that just
because there's so many teams right now that need.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
Quarterbacks he had a front row seat to watch all
these guys at The Senior.
Speaker 6 (33:34):
Bowl and now we're going into the combine. Week who are.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
Some of the names that you're high on that you
got to see firsthand and, say, hey this is this
is a dude that can continue to make that jump
in the eyes of all the.
Speaker 6 (33:46):
Evaluators that's a really good.
Speaker 5 (33:47):
ONE i would, say you know when someone at your
crosstown rival AT, Ucla Femio La dejo is a really
cool player in the sense that you, know he started
off his career AT cal and he was an off
the ball, linebacker and he's just a monster when you see, Him,
like how did this guy play backer at that? Size
but you, know and he was even an off the
ball lineback or going into the first couple of games
of this, year AND i think they moved him in
(34:09):
like week, three and you, Know, matt you'll remember this.
Guy Clancy pendergass was our decoordinator In Kansas city and
he's on THAT ucla staff now and he called me
about week, four week, five and he's, Like, jim just
keep an eye on this. Kid he's, like we moved
him down to the. Edge we're letting him rush the
passer a little. BIT i really feel like this is
his best. Home and he took off the second half
(34:29):
of the. YEAR i, mean this guy's, long he's, powerful
he just has the prototype edge rusher. Body and then
he comes to The Senior bowl and he was. Unbelievable
he was great on the, field he was great off the.
FIELD i, mean really high, energy guy loves, football SO
i hope he carries that momentum into the. Combine i'll
be curious to see what some of the testing stuff
(34:50):
looks like because on the, field for a guy that
hasn't done what he's been asked to do for very,
LONG i, mean it's exciting to like project and think
that this guy is going to be two years from
now and someone actually works with him how to rush
the passer because right NOW i think he's just going
off natural Abilit so just really curious to see HOW
fm does with all the with all the testing.
Speaker 4 (35:10):
Stuff can you describe to me At Jalen milroe will
be at the next? Level Mostly i'm an sc. GUY
i watched him run a, lot but his arm is.
TREMENDOUS i don't feel like he got to use it a.
Lot but what is he going to be at the
pro level as a.
Speaker 6 (35:22):
Quarterback that's a great.
Speaker 5 (35:24):
QUESTION i think that you, know IF i were to
be able to pay admission to go into any draft,
room you, know this spring and be a fly on
the wall for some of the, debates it would be
For Jalen milroe IF i could sit in on one,
player BECAUSE i think there's gonna be arguments on both,
sides and, uh you, know if you're if you're debating
(35:44):
on the lower side With Jalen, milroe you'll point to
like The oklahoma game and some of the inconsistencies with the,
accuracy especially like short. Intermedia and then if you argue
on the high, side you'll, say, guys AND i can
relate this back to my time In. Seattle we legitimately
talked About Lamar jackson as a wide receiver in our draft.
Speaker 7 (36:02):
Room so that WASN'T i. Know Bill pollion.
Speaker 5 (36:04):
Takes a lot of lot to makes a lot of
crap for doing, that BUT i was with AN nfl
team and we had the same debates and now he's
a two TIME, mvp so you.
Speaker 7 (36:12):
Know and then same thing With Jalen.
Speaker 5 (36:14):
HURTS i, Mean Jalen hurts was in The Senior bowl
four or five years, ago whatever it, was AND i
got asked her In Senior bowl press conference if we
were going to Play jalen or running back during the.
Week so, again like you can sit there and argue
all you, want but you you, know a Thing i've
learned with the accuracy piece is if you're if you've
got good. Feet to, me accuracy starts at the ground.
Up AND i mean if you're a high end athlete
(36:35):
Like Jalen hurts And Josh allen who had accuracy, questions you,
know and now to a guy Like Jalen, MILROE i
think that's going to get. Better you, know when you
work Like Jalen milroe does And Jalen hurts does And
Josh allen. Do like those guys are high end, Workers
they're they're gonna get better at their. Craft and uh
SO i would bet on the high side Of Jalen.
Milroe but it's gonna be, interesting you, know of all
(36:57):
these players like where that comes out In.
Speaker 3 (36:59):
April, well every draft class kind of has the strength
of the draft class from a positional.
Speaker 6 (37:05):
Point last, year obviously we saw what six quarterbacks go
on the top.
Speaker 3 (37:08):
Fifteen when you look at this year's draft class and
the crop of athletes coming, out what position group would
you say is probably the strongest and that we'll see
come off the board early and.
Speaker 6 (37:18):
Often, YEAH i would say two.
Speaker 5 (37:20):
Positions and the cool part about saying this is these
were the same two POSITIONS i said over the summer
WHEN i was asked this type of. Question it's defensive
line and running, back and you, know usually it doesn't
always materialize that. Way but you, know because in the
summer when you're when you're doing underclassman, tape you, know
you're kind of projecting glass half, full how these guys
are going to be with another year, development and sometimes
(37:42):
it doesn't pan. Out you, know sometimes the classes kind
of fall. Apart but you, know this YEAR'S d line
class in the running back classes are our. STRONGEST i,
Mean i'm just going to go back to the seven
Years i've been here running The Senior. Bowl it's certainly
the best two classes we've got at those at those
two respective. Positions so you, know and on THE d,
line it's not it's not just the edge, group it's
(38:03):
not just the INTERIOR d. Line it's it's across the,
board and it's not just. RUN i, mean can you
can find inside pass, rush you can find eds. Rush
and then at the running back, position those those guys
come in all shapes and sizes and skill sets. Too
you got and most of them can play on third.
Down most of these guys are three down. Backs SO i,
mean if you're a, team if you're working for a
(38:24):
team right, now or you're a fan of a team
that has a glaring neat at one of those two,
spots you don't necessarily have to go in the first
or second. ROUND i think there's going to be starting,
level starter level players at both of those, positions especially running.
BACK i, MEAN i think you're going to get some
guys that end up being starters in the fourth and
fifth round of this year's running back.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
Class speaking of, that let's talk About Ali gordon two seasons,
ago unreal At Oklahoma. State last, year the whole team.
Disappointed So Olli gorton didn't have the season THAT i
think they expected him. To what do THE, nfl what
are the personnel guys think Of Olli? Gorton who is?
Speaker 5 (39:01):
He, well they're certainly going to go back to the
tape two years. Ago he's a big, guy he's. Young you,
know he's not gonna fit every. Scheme he's just. Not
he's a big. Dude he's got a hike, cut so
he's a little, leggy but he's got a really deceptive.
Gear he's got really nice speed for a guy with
(39:23):
his body. Type usually those bigger guys don't have the foot.
Quickness ali, Has so he's got some subtle you, know
make you miss AND i and and you said. IT
i mean that everything kind of fell apart in Still
water this year for whatever, reason and that was they
were looked at as being a really good. TEAM i,
mean people had high hopes For.
Speaker 7 (39:41):
Oklahoma state this.
Speaker 5 (39:42):
Year AND i actually talked to you, know a couple
of guys on the team of The Senior, Bowl Nick
martin And Colin oliver about that and what their take
was on, it because they started okay and then things
just kind of fell. Apart BUT i think What ali,
showed you, know coming in The Senior bowl is the
teams might have thought he's just a you, know really
a base downs running back that you, know struggle to
contribute in some packages and he can catch the. Ball
(40:04):
they just didn't they didn't use them a. Lot but and,
again you, know he's a big target out of the,
backfield which is you, know really really friendly for a.
Speaker 7 (40:11):
Quarterback SO i think his best football still ahead of.
Speaker 5 (40:14):
HIM i think if you go back to twenty twenty,
three you know exactly what he, is and you, know
you just you just chalk it up to didn't have
a great last year in, college but sometimes those guys
end up becoming great.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
Pros, Yeah i'm talking to me about the tight End
harold fan and at A Bowling.
Speaker 6 (40:28):
GREEN i watched this kid play last. Year he was absolutely.
Speaker 3 (40:31):
Phenomenal he might not be a household name like A
Tyler warrener Or Colson lovelin somebody like, that but the
kid can. Play do you think his stock once he
got out there at The Senior bowl and played rose
tremendously because he is a little bit undersized for the
tight end, position but he's got tremendous ball.
Speaker 7 (40:48):
Skills, yeah he's he's.
Speaker 5 (40:49):
A he's a unique, prospect you, know like it's you,
know everyone likes to especially in the media more so
than with, teams but everyone tries to do the player comparison.
Game and he's a hard one, because like you, said
he's only about six, three so he's a little, undersized
more of an old old school h back type body.
Type And i'll give it give credit to my Buddy
Daniel jeremiah at THE Nfl network when we did The
(41:12):
Senior bowl roster reveal, show he compared fannin it To Antonio,
Gates and until he said, THAT i never you, know
but you guys can Remember gates, like he wasn't the
smoothest moving. Guy everyone thinks he was this phenomenal athlete
because he was a basketball player At Kent state and
he was a good, athlete no doubt about. It but
there was just something a little funky to his movement
(41:33):
that threw you. Off AND i think that's what made him.
Effective AND i Think fan is. Similar SO i like
that comp THAT dj. Throughout but like you, said the
production is. CRAZY i mean he had the guy had
like one hundred and seventeen catches and fifteen hundred yards
and ten. Touchdowns and so one credit the coaching staff
At Bowling, Green Scott leffler and those guys were like,
(41:54):
devising you, know scheming ways to get this guy. Open
if you're Playing Bowling green this year and you don't
have two or three guys focused On Harold, FANNON i
don't know what you're.
Speaker 7 (42:02):
Doing and they still found a.
Speaker 5 (42:04):
WAY i, mean he was here in the bowl game
and caught seventeen. Passes so, yeah he's a hard matchup
guy because he is a little unorthodox with his, movement
but he knows how to get. Open he's got great,
hands he's kind of and he's got a little knack
after the. Catch so you you mentioned some of the
guys up top that are going to probably go in
the first. ROUND i don't Think fannon's going to go
(42:26):
in the first, round BUT i think like he's a
guy next year right away if like you're a fantasy,
player kind of reminds me a little bit Of isaiah
likely From Baltimore ravens could be you know right away
of good number, two like a number two in the
past game THAT i could see fan and having five
or six touchdowns next year as a rookie for.
Speaker 4 (42:42):
Sure last, question it's noon draft. Day The. Titans they
got to get ahold of, you, like what do we
do with their number one? Pick who are we? Picking
what are we? Doing what are you Telling Jim.
Speaker 5 (42:52):
Well Mike, boorganzi who was there In casey with, Us
matt you might not remember he was cutting his, teeth
that he was cutting his teeth as a young guy
in That casey. ORGANIZATION i would, Say mikey trade out
in stockpile, picks, Brother but that's WHAT i would. Do
this is to, me this isn't a great draft to
be up there way, high but it is what it.
IS i, mean if you're The, titans you're stuck. There
(43:13):
you either got to take a good. Player but, Again
i've always been a big believer in trading down and
accumulating picks because if you have faith in your scouting,
staff you, know obviously it creates some margin for error.
Too but you, know you put faith in your, scouts
you're gonna you're gonna get good. PLAYERS i really feel
like the meat of this draft is from you, know
twenty to. SIXTY i think there's some really good players in.
(43:35):
There so but if you had to stick right, there,
man they need a quarterback going. FORWARD i don't know
who that's gonna. BE i don't know if they want
to go free. Agency you, know you could go To
Sam darnold. Route there's there's some options out there in free.
Agency but that's why they're paying my boy forgo the big.
Speaker 7 (43:51):
Bucks they'll have. To they'll have to figure that.
Speaker 4 (43:53):
Out, jim we appreciate the time love here in your
analysis and and thanks for sharing that with. Us you
guys can Follow Jim Jim naggie UNDERSCORE sb and we're
looking forward the combine and then the. Drafts so, again
thanks and good to spend some time with.
Speaker 6 (44:07):
You.
Speaker 7 (44:07):
Jim, YEAH i appreciate you having me on.
Speaker 4 (44:09):

Speaker 6 (45:07):
There?
Speaker 2 (45:07):
Yes, no my dad is an Unbelievable patriots. Fan so
back like in the eighties WHEN i was, little he
would take me to the Old Foxboro stadium and we'd
get tickets On, sunday AND i mean they were super
cheap because The patriots weren't good, then so we could
go to the games and he'd take us Every. Sunday
SO i just grew up a Giant patriots. Fan that's
(45:29):
my whole life has revolved around The patriots.
Speaker 4 (45:30):
Schedule so After Tom, brady who was your second favorite?
Quarterback Matt?
Speaker 3 (45:34):
Castle of, course that's it's Always Tom brady. First there's
no guessing. There But Drake, may you've got to be
pretty excited about the Young.
Speaker 7 (45:44):
Buck, yeah showed some pretty good stuff this past.
Speaker 2 (45:47):
Season hope we can get some good receivers for, him
and there's definitely some.
Speaker 6 (45:53):
Promise and how about your Boy Mike grabel coming? BACK
i Love Mike.
Speaker 2 (45:56):
Rabel, YES i think that was.
Speaker 4 (45:58):
Great did you ever have to See matt play?
Speaker 7 (45:59):
LIVE i did.
Speaker 2 (46:00):
Not my daughter's dad was at that first game When
brady's knee when And matt came in to save the.
Speaker 3 (46:08):
Season oh was he one of.
Speaker 6 (46:09):
The ones that were going?
Speaker 3 (46:10):
No oh, god he.
Speaker 2 (46:13):
Was he vowed to never go to another game. Again
but it turned out pretty. Good it wasn't so.
Speaker 3 (46:17):
Bad it's.
Speaker 4 (46:18):
Amazing we picture for a couple of. Reasons, one because
you're obviously a, fan we could, tell but also you
listen to the podcast because you Referenced matt Liking, Hoosiers
so we really appreciate you listening to the. Show that
means a lot to.
Speaker 3 (46:28):

Speaker 6 (46:39):
You, okay, Awesome thank you so. MUCH i appreciate.
Speaker 4 (46:41):
It are you hiding from work? Now are you off? Work,
No i'm off.
Speaker 2 (46:47):
WORK i work in early, shift like four forty five
to one, thirty So i'm already home for the.
Speaker 4 (46:52):
DAY i understand that.
Speaker 6 (46:53):
Pain that's What i'm talking.
Speaker 4 (46:54):
About, yeah you struggled getting to sleep at a time
that makes, Sense.
Speaker 6 (46:58):
Yeah six.
Speaker 2 (46:59):
THIRTY i want to go to, bed.
Speaker 4 (47:00):
So SAY i get. It thank, You, christine and we're
going to send this to, you and we appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (47:03):
Listening, Awesome thank you so.
Speaker 6 (47:05):
MUCH i have.
Speaker 4 (47:08):
Sports conspiracies and All i'd like for, you And i'll
do the. Same we will say if we think it is,
true could be, true or no chance, okay one of the.
Three let's start with. This have you heard about the
nineteen eighty FIVE Nba draft lottery and how supposedly it
was rigged for The. Knicks, now the theory is THE
nba Wanted Patrick ewing In New york to boost the
(47:29):
league's biggest, market so they rig the. Lottery some, people
And i've listened to quite a few podcasts and watched
quite a few tiktoks on, this believe that The knicks
envelope because he reached in you can grab an, envelope
it was either bent or, frozen So David stern could
easily identify. It so the question is do you think
(47:55):
and you could inside this? Category this could not even
be about this, specifically but it could be The Cleveland
cavaliers when they Got lebron that's his. Home, yes it's
kind of crazy that he ends up going To, now
that's not a massive it's just the luck of the.
Draw do you think it's the luck of the?
Speaker 6 (48:10):
Draw, NO i think that there's a possibility. THERE i
put in the.
Speaker 3 (48:14):
POSSIBILITY i put it absolutely in the possibility.
Speaker 4 (48:16):
Category because you have a star Like Patrick ewing in
the biggest, market that's automatic. Revenue if he's halfway.
Speaker 6 (48:22):
Good that's.
Speaker 3 (48:22):
Revenue that's eyes on the, sport that's all the different
media attention that comes in the media outlets covering the.
GAME i MEAN i, COULD i could say it's. Possibility
i'll give it possibility to the frozen. Envelope, YEAH i
was gonna, say that's pretty.
Speaker 4 (48:35):
Gang it's. Done that's brilliant because that looks no different
and you're feeling. Around oh that's the cold, one got? It,
yeah that's.
Speaker 6 (48:42):
Awesome there it. Is. There it Is.
Speaker 4 (48:44):
Michael jordan's secret suspension for. Gambling the theory Is Michael
jordan didn't retire to play. Baseball, REALLY Nba Commissioner David
stern secretly suspended him for. Gambling his sudden retirement came
after rumors of gambling, problems and he conveniently returned right
after his supposed suspension would have. Ended, Now jordan is
a known. Gambler it's not even, illegal like dude loved
(49:05):
to compete in any way, Possible and the conspiracy is
that he had been. Caught another crazy conspiracy is that's
why his dad was. KILLED i know that's super, conspiracy,
right but That David stern didn't want to outwardly suspend,
him but needed to suspend, him and that's what he
decided to do with play.
Speaker 6 (49:24):
Baseball, Well i'm gonna go with.
Speaker 3 (49:29):
True to possibly, True Like i'm right on The i'm
between the.
Speaker 6 (49:32):
Two i'm either, OR.
Speaker 3 (49:35):
I, mean because definitely an own gambler still gambles to
this day is a legend in that, community like, golfing
anything you're. Gambling we're even at The Kentucky. Derby one
time we ran Into jordan at one of the events
there and my offensive, Lineman Dan copen immediately, goes you
want to play high?
Speaker 6 (49:53):
Card just awful. Whim he couldn't have been.
Speaker 3 (49:56):
Cool he's like absolutely thousand dollars of. HIM i was, like,
OH i was, Like i'm, out go, ahead enjoy. That
So i've seen it first, hand like it's just something
that's in HIS. Dna So i'm hoping it's a possible
true with you, know, opposite BUT i could see it
going easily to be a truthful.
Speaker 6 (50:14):
Statement.
Speaker 4 (50:15):
Yeah we're like on a scale of one to, ten
and one means not at all and ten means for.
Sure i'm like an.
Speaker 6 (50:20):
Eight you, KNOW i might be in nine because of this.
Speaker 3 (50:23):
Reason who wants to go down To, Birmingham alabama and
play DOUBLE a baseball The, barons and then gotta go
play for The, barons and then you gotta be in
the bus leagues like my brother played For Birmingham. Alabama
i've been, there AND i understand what minor league baseball looks.
Like you go from the pinnacle of the greatest heights
that you could possibly be in a legend in your
(50:44):
sport and be, like now you know, What i'm gonna
go sign baseball's for fans and play in the minor
leagues right after three, championships right after three, championships when
you're still in your.
Speaker 4 (50:54):
Prime, yes because it came back and won three more.
Exactly that's how in his prime he.
Speaker 6 (50:58):
Was So i'm, going you know, What i'm going with
a yes on that i'd like to.
Speaker 4 (51:01):
Say and we have no, idea we have no inside
information on any of, these OR i wouldn't bring them.
Up The Black sox Scandal Major League baseball in nineteen
nineteen H Chicago White sox players intentionally through The World
series in exchange for money from. Gamblers and it's not
so much that that, happened.
Speaker 6 (51:16):
But it did, happen didn't.
Speaker 4 (51:18):
It, Yes Shoeless joe was supposedly not. Involved he played
out of his, mind batted over three, hundred played his face.
Off he said he was. Innocent other people said he was,
innocent but he was still. Banned so you Think Shoeless
joe was.
Speaker 3 (51:34):
Involved, no not if you bat three hundred and during
The World series and you ball out of your, mind
unless they are, like, hey look we're going to blow this,
game put money on the other, team but you go
and do your thing because it'll look make us look less.
Speaker 4 (51:47):
Guilty but now you're next leveling. It now you're first enveloping.
Speaker 3 (51:51):
It thank you very. Much, well this is all conspiracy theory.
Anyway so if you go out there and ball out
of your mind and don't show any weaknesses in your
game or uncharacteristic peret, PLAY i believe.
Speaker 4 (52:03):
Him, YEAH i believe them. Too anything, more, well It's
i'm just looking at his stats, here because.
Speaker 6 (52:11):
This is his stats for The World.
Speaker 4 (52:13):
Series, yes three seventy five batting, average twelve, hits which
was A World series record at the, time no errors
in the, field, hit the only home run of the entire.
Series he claimed he never took. Money he later said
gamblers offered him five thousand, dollars which now is probably
like one hundred thousand.
Speaker 6 (52:31):
Dollars, right he was.
Speaker 4 (52:33):
Illiterate some believe he didn't fully understand what was happening
when he quote, confessed like they coerced him into a
confession and the jury found him not, guilty BUT mlb
still banned.
Speaker 6 (52:42):
Him that's messed.
Speaker 4 (52:43):
Up, yeah that's missed, up supecially.
Speaker 3 (52:44):
He couldn't, read especially if he couldn't Any, yeah and
then you got a lawyer sitting there using really big,
words and you're, like.
Speaker 4 (52:50):
Uh that's WHEN i bought a. House that's WHAT i
didn't know what was happening to sign papers yet.
Speaker 3 (52:54):
Exactly when they put all of the all of it and,
Writing you're sitting, THERE i don't understand any of those, words.
Speaker 4 (53:00):
And at some point you just go Just i'll just sign.
Speaker 6 (53:02):
Whatever, YEAH i AM i liable for? Anything is it
actually in my?
Speaker 4 (53:05):
House the two thousand and TWO Nba Western Conference finals were. Rigged,
now that's The the theory is THE nba Manipulated game
six helped The lakers beat The kings in advanced to the.
Finals the evidence is The lakers shot twenty seven free
throws in the fourth quarter, alone and former Ref Tim
donny later claimed the game was. FIXED i don't think
he was the one running the game, though but he's
(53:27):
the one that got in. Trouble you may see if
he was actually on that. GAME i don't think he.
Was but, yeah this was crazy because they came back
in one game. Seven i've watched documentary is type stuff on.
Speaker 3 (53:37):
This, man what's your thought on. THAT i think for
SURE i would go at. NINE i THINK i don't know.
How it wasn't no WAY i.
Speaker 6 (53:45):
WAS i was A lakers, fan, Dude lakers don't cheat Like.
Speaker 4 (53:48):
Sacramento the fact That sacramento they were going to go
into The Tim duncan to the finals over The Laker
No Vlatti.
Speaker 3 (53:57):
Divotti, YEAH i, mean but at the same, time wasn't
that the hack of shack type the year where he
had every time that they got, down teams were just hack,
shacks so he'd have to shoot free throws because he was.
Speaker 4 (54:12):
Not this was so it was.
Speaker 3 (54:14):
Different, Yeah i'm gonna have to go back and watch
the game BECAUSE i mean it was a long time.
Speaker 6 (54:18):
Ago let's be, Honest.
Speaker 4 (54:20):
I've never heard of this. One this.
Speaker 6 (54:21):
One just.
Speaker 4 (54:21):
Funny it was twenty, twelve so it wasn't like nineteen, ten,
right so twenty twelve The olympic badminton match fixing. Scandal
several teams intentionally lost matches in group play to get
easier matchups in later. Rounds the teams barely tried serving
into the net on purpose and refusing to hit. Rallies
they were eventually disqualified Front Sports Flight. Conduct that feels
(54:43):
like that was it's just all right.
Speaker 3 (54:44):
There, yeah it's pretty self explanatory right, there because have
you seen those players play badminton in The. Olympics they're.
Incredible it is, dark it's like you playing. Pickleball, no,
oh don't you light to? Me don't you light to?
Me but they don't, miss, right it's exceptional. Play so
if they're hitting the ball in the net and making
not even force and, rallies, YES i would agree with that.
Speaker 6 (55:05):
Statement, well they got kicked out, too right they. Did, Yeah, well.
Speaker 4 (55:08):
Speaking of, PICKLEBALL i put up a little video because
if weather finally got good, here so, good and SO
i have some of those metaglasses THAT i was wearing
and they have the cameras in SO i was just
testing them. Out and SO i was hitting some balls
with a buddy of mine AND i posted it On
twitter AND i was, like, hey weather's good playing. Pickleball
so some dude gets under and writes a. Comment he's,
like you. Suck anybody good would have been charging the.
(55:30):
Net now why DO i care that somebody is trolling
me about a VIDEO i? Posted SO i, Said i'll
play for a thousand. Bucks, yes where do you? Live
like you take the thousand bucks you put on an,
Account i'll do the same. Thing we'll put an account
And i'll come to you AND i will play you
for a thousand.
Speaker 3 (55:47):
Dollars, now this is where social media gets great when
you engage fans like this and you literally said let's.
Speaker 6 (55:55):
Play, yeah and what do you?
Speaker 4 (55:56):
Say so he didn't respond for a long, time, okay
and then he finally Said i'll play. You and he
lives In ohio and he, says my home court is
something something lifetime. Fitness BUT i went back again AND i, said,
No i'm not going to just show up and be,
like hey, Guy i'm here to play you for no.
Reason if you're as good as you say.
Speaker 6 (56:15):
You, are put your money where your mouth.
Speaker 4 (56:16):
Is thousand dollars put an, account because that's going to
pay my travel cost to get up there with me
And reed and whomever to shoot this.
Speaker 6 (56:23):
Thing they're definitely shooting it for.
Speaker 3 (56:25):
Sure and you, KNOW i commentate over, absolutely AND i
have no idea what the.
Speaker 6 (56:29):
Older he's in the.
Speaker 3 (56:30):
Box he's in the box. AGAIN i know THAT.
Speaker 4 (56:32):
I might even lose because the guy claims he was
a four YEAR d one athlete tennis, PLAYER i think.
Speaker 6 (56:37):
Wrestler now that doesn't, count but different movement.
Speaker 3 (56:40):
PATTERNS i am not. Scared is the? Thing different move
then wrestling match AFTER i am.
Speaker 4 (56:45):
Scared now now THAT i am, Scared i'm going over
to my. Account and by the, way On instagram And
twitter it's Mister Bobby. Bones But i'm going back over
to this. Guy i'm telling you right now he might
have deleted all of it.
Speaker 6 (57:01):
THINGS i thought this was going to come to. FRUITION
i was looking.
Speaker 3 (57:04):
YESTERDAY i didn't find him.
Speaker 4 (57:05):
Really, okay so somebody.
Speaker 6 (57:09):
It was my it was my, burner it was my burner.
Speaker 4 (57:11):
ACCOUNT a different guy. Deleted so the first guy that
talked crap to, ME i talked crap. BACK i, said
you ain't. Serious and the second guy, said any good,
player this is the guy would come up to the
net and singles and pick you. Apart find some real.
Competition by the, WAY i didn't post. IT i was
even playing a, game.
Speaker 6 (57:25):
RIGHT i was.
Speaker 4 (57:26):
RALLYING i, said you talk a. Lot by looking at your,
pictures you don't look athletic at. ALL i didn't even look.
IT i didn't even go to his. ACCOUNT i just wrote.
THAT i didn't go to his. ACCOUNT i just wrote that.
Blind and so he SAID i was A d one
athlete for four. Years AND i Said i'll play, you
and THEN i Said i'm. In oh, great he, SAYS
i just got, this send me your email, address all draft,
up escrow. Agreement now we're talking best of three games
(57:49):
up to fifteen, points straight, up best of three games
up to fifteen.
Speaker 6 (57:52):
Points don't you normally played it? ELEVEN i don't.
Speaker 3 (57:54):
CARE i played one. Hundred, Yeah so all we need
is forty five points for you to, win.
Speaker 4 (57:59):
Not only that, many thirty two out of three best of.
Speaker 6 (58:03):
Thirty oh, yeah you're.
Speaker 4 (58:04):
GOOD i can win the first. Two i'm not claiming
That i'm the best or THAT i will even for
sure beat this. PERSON i just want to challenge people
that come out of nowhere for no reason to talk.
Speaker 6 (58:13):
GARBAGE i think.
Speaker 3 (58:14):
You're you're pretty confident in your pickleball game because you
chance Challenge Andy.
Speaker 4 (58:18):
Roddick that's one of my best FRIENDS i.
Speaker 3 (58:20):
Know but it's still you were confident enough to where
you felt, like, HEY i could compete with.
Speaker 4 (58:24):
YOU i did not tell HIM i could beat. HIM i,
said do. YOU i asked him you felt LIKE i could?
COMPETE i THINK i.
Speaker 6 (58:29):
Compete, yeah, yeah that's What i'm.
Speaker 4 (58:30):
Saying, Okay i'm GLAD i got this little response.
Speaker 6 (58:32):
Here let's go maybe.
Speaker 4 (58:34):
Good it was hard to find it. Though twitter kind
of sucks. Now it was my. Favorite it kind of sucks,
now but, anyway you can follow us over. There yours
is like m Underscore. Castle what it?
Speaker 6 (58:43):
IS i? Think so it's.
Speaker 4 (58:44):
You you're all the same because On instagram it's kind of.
Hard it's like m Underscore, castle smiley, face smiley get.
Speaker 3 (58:50):
Out you, KNOW i just got social media four, Years
so bear with.
Speaker 4 (58:53):
Me, OKAY i gotta get on. THAT i do want
to do, this AND i think this would be fun
for me and for the listeners of. This matt's actually
(59:15):
going to teach us something as far as football, knowledge
because sometimes we hear things and we don't really know
what they mean as far as like what quarterback they're
saying and when they're describing. Formations so would you teach
us a couple of things today before we?
Speaker 6 (59:26):
Go, okay do you want to start on the offense
or defensive? Side let's go. Offense, okay so offensive side
of the.
Speaker 3 (59:31):
BALL a lot of times it's based on the terminology
that you're.
Speaker 6 (59:35):
In so you could call a formation two by.
Speaker 3 (59:38):
Two you could call it, doubles which is the easiest
way of saying two by. Two but in A New
England patriots, lingo it's zero out. Slot the slot describes
THE z going to the. Slot the out describes THE.
F so if you take your base, Formation.
Speaker 4 (59:53):
I'm lost, already boy telling we got a simple what
we gotta even simplify it?
Speaker 6 (59:57):
More, okay it was.
Speaker 4 (59:58):
Simplified so what would be the base Formation?
Speaker 3 (01:00:00):
England so you take, zero which is AN i formation
old school full, back tailback right behind.
Speaker 6 (01:00:06):
Them one tight, end two wide.
Speaker 3 (01:00:07):
Receivers Zero now everything after that it changes the. Formation
so if you said zero on that really means you
have a tight end in the, game and now it's
two by, two but with two tight ends. Attached zero, on,
okay zero, Out all of a, sudden it's really a
three by one, formation but you now have three wide receiver.
Set look WHEN i first got, there my mind was
(01:00:30):
blown with how they called their.
Speaker 6 (01:00:32):
Formations it wasn't something like. Trips, right it's zero out zero.
Speaker 3 (01:00:36):
Hoole, okay then let's just boil it down to. Zero
when you say zero, out what the crap does that?
Speaker 6 (01:00:41):
Mean zero?
Speaker 3 (01:00:42):
Out now puts it's now you're in personnel grouping, eleven
which means you have three wide.
Speaker 6 (01:00:48):
Receivers that out tells the f he's all the way.
Speaker 4 (01:00:51):
Outside does the eleven personnel mean one running, back one tight?
Speaker 3 (01:00:57):
End so that's probably an easier conversation because describing formations
in very complex systems is going to be a little
bit overwhelming for any. List so when you talk about,
personnel which is the first thing that we, mentioned when
you come in the, huddle so you start with say
it's eleven, personnel that means you have one running, back
one tight, end three wide. Receivers if you were to
(01:01:18):
say ten, personnel that means one running, back no tight,
ends four wide. Receivers so then twelve. Personnel you'd have
one running.
Speaker 4 (01:01:28):
Back two tight, ends which would just leave two wide, receivers,
right because you can only have so many players.
Speaker 3 (01:01:32):
Exactly now we're in goal. Line, hey we're going goal line,
here we're in twenty three, personnel.
Speaker 4 (01:01:37):
Two running backs in three tight.
Speaker 6 (01:01:40):
Ends.
Speaker 3 (01:01:40):
Boom so you're in a condensed formation at the goal.
Line you're trying to jam it. In so you bring
in three tight. Ends your heavy personnel. Set so some
people will call it, heavy but most people use. Numbers
it's heavy personnel. Set and so you're going to have
three tight. Ends two of them attach the line of
scrimmage with a full back in the. Backfield so you
got the two, backs, Right.
Speaker 4 (01:01:58):
So it starts, backs backs and tight, ends and then
whatever's left is the, receivers, Right and so in total there's.
Speaker 3 (01:02:06):
Five there's probably more than. That we've got thirteen. Personnel
so you got.
Speaker 4 (01:02:12):
One running, back three tight. Ends but then how many
wide receivers? One, okay so that would mean that the answer.
Six then, yep, okay so there's.
Speaker 3 (01:02:20):
There's seem more than. That.
Speaker 6 (01:02:21):
Bro, well we didn't mention.
Speaker 4 (01:02:22):
It so there's a quarterback and then five we.
Speaker 6 (01:02:24):
Say twenty one. Personnel, yeah, okay we, did so.
Speaker 4 (01:02:27):
THEN i think by deduction there's six total spots because
look at, quarterback not part of. It, center two, guards two.
Speaker 6 (01:02:35):
Tackles, yeah that's self.
Speaker 3 (01:02:36):
Explanatory so so you're always describing those numbers tell you
exactly what personnel group you're in based on the play
that you. Call so you don't want certain personnel groups.
In so IF i call twenty one, personnel that's two,
backs one tight, end and all of a sudden a
call comes in and it's should.
Speaker 6 (01:02:54):
Be a three wide receiver, Set well you got to call.
Speaker 3 (01:02:56):
Timeout and that's happened before where we, thought all of
a sudden they send in the wrong personnel, group they
didn't communicate, it and then all of a sudden you're
sitting there going, Wait i've got to take a time.
Out lot of times you'll have that or the play
clock shut off in a critical moment and you take
a time out as a. Quarterback, so but personnel sets
are really important because it really dictates terms for what
(01:03:19):
play call we're going to go to.
Speaker 4 (01:03:20):
Next, okay so we've started. FUNDAMENTALS i like, This so
let's just say it's twenty one personnel from What i've
learned here two running, backs one tight. End, right that
means they're going to be two, receivers two.
Speaker 3 (01:03:33):
Receivers, right you're going to have your z ER. X.
Speaker 4 (01:03:35):
Okay so now you've got to put a. Receiver now
is the next language what the receivers are going to
do and where they're going.
Speaker 3 (01:03:41):
To, be, Right so you could call you could say zero.
Slot that slot tells THAT z he's going to the.
Slot so now you've got two ride receivers on one,
Side you've got the one tight end attached over, here
and then you've got two backs in the backfield and
a lot of times you'll do that to remove a.
Guy so if they're playing man, defense you're going to
remove that. Cornerback now we've got better run. Fits when we,
run say something like boss boss on strong safety. Back
(01:04:06):
so the full back is on the strong. Safety that's
what boss, Means bob fullback on the, backer which is
usually the boss Is bob on the strong boss, right,
exactly got, It So.
Speaker 6 (01:04:18):
Bob so there's word association with how you call your.
Speaker 3 (01:04:20):
Runs and then as you get the then you get
to the pass.
Speaker 6 (01:04:24):
Game.
Speaker 3 (01:04:25):
Right and so in The New England, patriots. Offense for,
instance the fifty series is called a slide, Series so
we're sliding out to THE o, line taking the four
down to the will. Linebacker the back's Responsible mike To,
sam so middle linebacker To. Sam then the sixty series
is man and so that means the offensive line taking
(01:04:45):
the four down to that middle backer and they're, scanning
duel and through to the to the sam over here
and the back has the weak side.
Speaker 4 (01:04:53):
Backer, YEAH i walked into a trigonometric class. GUY i
MEAN i was going to, say LIKE i did some
intro to trig and SO i was able to talk
us through the personnel. Part the. Rest i'm a little.
Loss let me ask you one other fundamental, question, then
why is it important to identify the?
Speaker 6 (01:05:08):
Mic? Okay so that sets your protections.
Speaker 3 (01:05:11):
Up so, really when you come to the line of,
scrimmage say we had a six man man protection in the, sixties,
right that means the line's taking the four down to
the mic. Linebacker if he's cheated over this, way they
can duel that front. Side meaning if THE mic comes by,
himself they'll pick him up with one of the five. Linemen,
okay usually the interior if they overload. PRESSURE i Know
(01:05:31):
i'm hot off of.
Speaker 4 (01:05:33):
You saying a lot of things that you lost me
like as soon as you opened your. Mouth, okay so
now the insurgent to do all it.
Speaker 3 (01:05:40):
Does when you identify THE mic, linebacker that sets your protection,
scheme that tells the offensive line in the back. Immediately
SO i come up and, Say mike's fifty. Four that
means if in the protection, scheme you're responsible for four
down to the will, linebacker that's now the next guy
over is going to be the will.
Speaker 6 (01:05:57):
Linebacker and it doesn't matter who it.
Speaker 3 (01:05:58):
Is it could be a, nickelback which is you, know
a whole other, terminology but they're going to that guy
in the running back starts with the middle linebacker out TO. Sam,
now when you come up in any, protection you're always
identifying THE mic. Linebacker where it gets a little bit
tricky is in certain, offenses as a strong safety rotates,
(01:06:18):
down you know that they can't fire that weak side
linebacker because he's got to be in coverage over. There
so you will change YOUR mic. Point you'll go normally
he's the middle, linebacker you change, him and NOW i
reidentify THE mic as THE. Sam that changes everybody's course
and where they're going to and the initial start of the.
(01:06:39):
Protection so there's a lot of different moving parts and
it takes.
Speaker 4 (01:06:44):
TIME i could ask my, guys do you guys have
anyways talking ABOUT i, Mean, kevin.
Speaker 6 (01:06:48):
How about something simple like WHAT i hear be?
Speaker 4 (01:06:50):
Coverage, OKAY i like, that but let me ask one more?
Quick CAN i want to get better at? This When
i'm identifying the mic On, madden WHAT i feel Like
i'm DOING i could be completely. WRONG i could be
doing it. WRONG i feel like when identify the, mic
regardless of where he, is that's now the middle of
my offense is adjusting my protection to that.
Speaker 6 (01:07:07):
Person that's exactly what you're.
Speaker 3 (01:07:09):
Doing so if there's something as simple as it's called
boss back ers, strong they'll move over gap.
Speaker 4 (01:07:16):
You just did a different boss, man you're given a second.
Speaker 6 (01:07:18):
Boy both meaning they move, strong they move. Weak.
Speaker 3 (01:07:23):
Well that always is an indication for a quarterback that
they're going to have some kind of, safety either the
weak safety or strong safety drop down into some kind
of post side post. Safety but still when you look
at it and identify it as middle linebackers, here because
that's what the structure of the defense is that's where
your offensive line is.
Speaker 4 (01:07:39):
STARTING i need to know what peak coverage.
Speaker 3 (01:07:41):
Is peak coverage is it's actually when they have some
type of defensive lineman drop, back so now you have
eight people in. Coverage it's usually in long distance situations
for the defensive unit where they. Drop you see sometimes
those big defensive linemen drop in the middle of the
field and try to steal, something so they're just trying
to get an extra guy in. Coverage do you understand nickel?
Speaker 6 (01:08:02):
Dying? Yeah, see so you got that.
Speaker 4 (01:08:04):
Down, yeah it was just all the, time all the.
Speaker 3 (01:08:08):
Formation it's really hard to sit here with out like a.
Speaker 7 (01:08:10):
Board.
Speaker 4 (01:08:11):
Yeah, yeah maybe that's what we do next. Time, YEAH
i was, like get them. Aboard but here's WHAT i learned.
Though personnel twenty three two running, backs three tight.
Speaker 6 (01:08:20):
Ends bam nailed.
Speaker 4 (01:08:21):
It thirteen one running, back three tight. Ends BUT i
gind that'd be. Tough you' you can't only do, thirteen can?
Speaker 3 (01:08:27):
You?
Speaker 6 (01:08:27):
Oh yeah you, can you.
Speaker 4 (01:08:28):
Can and then the rest are just whatever wide. Receiver
so it's a numbers game like whatever's left, Right.
Speaker 3 (01:08:33):
And a lot of it is because you're trying to
create mismatches because you know that any type of big personnel,
group whether it's twenty, one it's kind of regular personnel,
groups you're going to get their regular, defense and a
lot of times it simplifies it for the. Offense but
all of a, sudden you go thirteen. Personnel it's still a,
big big offensive. Unit they stay in regular but now
you get. Mismatches and that's where a guy's Like gronk
(01:08:54):
and The Travis kelcey's of the world and all those
they used to eat because the matchups on linebackers and
safeties is different versus A dB because.
Speaker 6 (01:09:02):
They have to match your.
Speaker 3 (01:09:03):
Personnel and then all of a sudden they, say, look
this guy's killing. Us they bring in the substitute a
defensive back for one of those, linebackers which is considered,
nickel and now you run the ball because now you
have advantageous advantage to running the football against lesser.
Speaker 4 (01:09:20):
Defenders Logan ryan friend of ours would play a bunch
of nickel mm.
Speaker 3 (01:09:25):
Hmm it's one of the most important aspects of any
defense is a good nickel back because they usually play
on the interior part of the. Defense they also have
to be good at run force because they have to
stick their nose in. There they're usually asked to blitz
off the, edge and if you've got a good nickel
and then who can also transition and play really good pass.
Defense their Solid because who's the guy that's normally in
(01:09:46):
the slot at the wide receiver. POSITION a guy that's,
shifty he's, quick he's one of those possession type guys
that you might. Get you're, saying you, know a try
hard guy that's always in the right.
Speaker 6 (01:09:57):
Position, yes.
Speaker 4 (01:09:59):
Exactly, okay Well i'm a little brain fried from, that
BUT i feel LIKE i got the real. Point it's.
There next, Week i'm gonna be. Stronger that's. It thanks
To Jim. Naggy thanks To matt who crushed it. Today
brought in his, knowledge brought in his cap and gown and, say,
class sit, down about to teach you what you don't.
Know that's when you, realize you think you might know
something about, football that you don't know anything about. Football
(01:10:21):
when someone who knows about football comes in and, says
here's WHAT i know about, Football.
Speaker 3 (01:10:23):
And Then i'm starting to realize is, like MAYBE i
wouldn't be a good coach Because i'm overwhelming my audience very.
Speaker 6 (01:10:29):
QUICKLY i should just started very.
Speaker 4 (01:10:30):
SIMPLISTICALLY i think twelve year olds have a better chance
five offense.
Speaker 3 (01:10:33):
And center quarterback exchange victory. Formation visual would help.
Speaker 7 (01:10:38):
Too to his point of the board.
Speaker 3 (01:10:40):
A, board because when you hear it and you don't
understand the dynamics of what you're looking, at you're just, like, ah,
yeah you've lost me at.
Speaker 4 (01:10:47):
Hello BUT i think it's great for people like myself
that didn't even understand it to understand we don't even.
Understand instead of going why didn't that make it's easy
for me to do that yellfa screen and.
Speaker 6 (01:10:57):
That's, yeah well that's all the. Time when you're, like what?
Speaker 3 (01:11:00):
Happened why they have the busted, Covers you're, like well
it was pretty.
Speaker 4 (01:11:02):
Complex, yeah fifty two treasure, hat jumpy. Jump you didn't see.
Speaker 3 (01:11:05):
That you didn't see THE i mean The samstrong safety
but let's off the.
Speaker 6 (01:11:10):

Speaker 3 (01:11:11):
