Hosted by brothers from other mothers Ealan Osborne, Brad Pipkins and Derek Konofalski, Hidden Movie Club is like a book club...but for movies! This bi-weekly podcast discusses the movie that the hosts and their club members watched the previous week, either in a movie theater or in the comfort of their own homes. Movie theater attendance is very encouraged, but not mandatory, to keep the cinema experience alive!
Just like streaming TV networks these days, there are also plenty of music streaming services to choose from. We've had experiences with a few, but not all, and we have some things to say about them! Come join the conversation live, or catch us on the flip side in audio form wherever you download your favorite podcasts! But also come for the tangents to other off-topics as per usual.
Let's face it - nostalgia is a HUGE seller these days. But are we holding onto the past thinking it really was a better time when it comes to car audio, going to the movie theater on a Friday night, or popping in that fresh new Korn album in your CD player? (heehee!) Or do we really have unprecedented times right now? Let's discuss!
Hooray! Both Brad and I have a wonderful relationship with Collin from Aperion Audio that already spans many years! Let's talk about speakers, interconnects, and anything else that comes up with one of the most laid back, badass drummers on the planet that just happens to work for a super cool company with kick ass speakers!
Kaleidescape sure did make a splash with their Strato V player, dropping the price of entry to $3,995. Still a lot of money, but do the benefits outweigh the costs? Is doing it DIY with the likes of an R-Volution or Zidoo or similar still worth it in the end? Sit back and enjoy the discussion!
With technology advancing so rapidly these days, when do you think it's time to maybe upgrade components? And how often from then on? We chat about that, the ridiculous price of the PS5 Pro, and I go over some things I experienced at CEDIA in Denver! Tune in and enjoy the show!
In this episode, the audience got to ask their questions and we tried our best to answer them! Of course we went on our tangents, but that's what makes it fun, right? :) Tune in and listen to the beautiful chaos!
Every have a dream home theater setup in your head, then you finally reach that dream...and it turns out it's a bit much more than you bargained for? Join us as we get way off topic at times (in a good way) and talk about scenarios that might make us think it's time to scale back a bit. Plus answering your questions! Hooray!
Up until recently, the act of remastering a classic film from yesteryear meant re-scans of negatives, and painstaking removal of blemishes and dust particles, frame-by-frame. But now, with advancements in AI tech, it seems there are directors or studios out there taking shortcuts to remove those blemishes at break-neck speeds. What's happening here? We discuss this and MORE, so tune in! :)
CES, CEDIA, T.H.E. Show, AXPONA, etc. Have you been to any of them? Are they even worth it? Why would even want to go? Well, folks, we go over those reasons and pepper in some personal stories of our time at these types of conventions and trade shows. Check it out!
What would be considered overkill in a home theater when it comes to how many channels you have? What's the minimum amount that would get the best experience? We tackle these questions and much more in this week's episode, featuring our good friend Tarrus from The Fun Waste of Time Podcast! Check it out! :)
In this episode, we discuss the importance of physical media, even in 2024! I know, crazy, right?! But of course, in our typical fashion, some other related topics come up and we tackle all the stuff you're dying to know about! :) Enjoy!
Brad is solo in this episode, since Ealan had a family reunion! And what an episode this turned out to be! Give Brad some love for taking the wheel and driving this topic of 8K, and if it's really worth it, considering manufacturers are already scaling back on the whole 8K craze that started a few years ago. Check it out, fam!
With the re-release of Gravity on Blu-ray with the Atmos soundtrack making waves in the home theater space right now, Brad and I wanted to discuss what makes an immersive audio mix...immersive? And what about a bad audio mix takes us out of the movie? But of course, we also answer your questions from the live stream and go off on tangents, as usual. :) Thanks for listening!
A new milestone! Get ready folks, because this is our first official guest interview episode! Bert Van Daele, the CTO of NEWAURO BV (Auro 3D) joins us and we talk all things Auro 3D, the new Auro CX and Auro Scene codecs, Auromatic Upmixer, and much more! Auro has seemingly risen from the ashes of bankruptcy, and we're here for it! Very exciting stuff is about to launch. Check it out!
This week, we're starting a new tradition! With every episode that ends in a "1," we're gonna do an "ask us anything" stream where you get to ask what's on your mind, and we'll try our best to give you the answer you wanted! Ha! :) Some good stuff was discussed throughout this episode, so sit back, relax and enjoy the show!
With AI generative artwork and videos all the rage nowadays, is there a future where AI can help solve issues in your home theater? Whether that be enlarging a picture to near-perfect pixel density, or advancements in room correction software? And do you even use voice commands with Google or Alexa or Siri? Let's discuss!
Are you excited about the prospect of franchise films like the new Deadpool & Wolverine? Or perhaps Gladiator 2 coming out later this year? Were you like us and got some serious Marvel fatigue once Avengers: Endgame, well...ended? We discuss the shift in focus in Hollywood where money and analytics and fulfilling consumers' need to binge new content is king, instead of focusing on the art of a good film. But there is one studio...
Are you the kind that gets nerdy with your home theater? Well you should! Calibration is key since no room is the same! Brad and I go over the ins and outs about why it's necessary. Tune in and check it all out!
Where do you draw the line on diminishing returns when it comes to home theater equipment? Are you really getting a $15,000 experience with speakers that cost that much? How do manufacturers like Trinnov and Kaleidescape get away with charging such a high premium on convenience alone? We discuss this and much more on this week's podcast! Hooray!
At CES 2024 in Las Vegas, Auro BV unveiled a new scalable streaming audio codec named Auro CX that Auro claims will revolutionize the game by having near uncompressed quality audio even through television broadcasts and streaming. And DTS was back at CES claiming their "IMAX Enhanced Signature Sound by DTS" will debut on Disney Plus sometime in 2024 (despite already failing to deliver that same promise in 2023).
