It can be so easy to inadvertently tear down the confidence of a child. We mean well when we say things like “be careful,” not realizing that it can make the child question their ability to take calculated risks. Instead we should focus on allowing them to do things themselves, even if we think they are “wrong.”

Research shows that time-outs do NOT work for children. If you’re unsure about what other techniques to use, this episode is for you! We discuss the ways you can help a child say that they are sorry without forcing them to mutter the phrase when they may not mean it.
We encourage you to make sure that the disciplinary techniques used at your daycare or preschool are in line with what you believe and practice at home.
Preschoolers are eager to become independent and show their autonomy. While it can be frustrating for parents and caregivers, it’s important to let them do some tasks on their own. It helps develop their life skills as well as their confidence.
