The Salem Podcast

Drawing from John 21, Pastor Tim Niekerk walks through what happened between Jesus and Peter on the shore after the resurrection. When we fail, the instinct is to file ourselves under damaged goods and assume God is keeping score. Jesus meets Peter at a charcoal fire, the same kind of fire Peter stood beside when he denied him three times. He doesn’t use it to shame him. He asks three times, “Do you love me?” and ...

What if the weight of your guilt could be lifted by one resounding "absolutely" from God? In John 21, Jesus finds a shame-filled Peter beside a charcoal fire, the same kind of fire where Peter had denied him. Jesus doesn't come to reopen the wound. He comes to heal it, and he gives Peter his calling back. Pastor Jason walks through God's absolution, his solution to our sin problem, grounded in Romans 5's promise that Christ died fo...

Peter walked on water. Peter also denied Jesus three times. In this message from "The Forgiving Challenge," Pastor Tim takes an honest look at both sides of that story and what it tells us about sin. Sin is bigger than missing the mark by a little. It's something every one of us lives with, and it points us straight to our need for a Savior. The good news is that God doesn't wait for us to hit the bullseye. He comes after us right ...

Rahab had a past nobody in Jericho would have bragged about. In this final message of the Good Neighboring series, Pastor Jason walks through her story: a woman who hid two Israelite spies, struck a daring bargain and ended up in the genealogy of Jesus. The spies told her "our lives for yours." Jesus says the same thing to us. It's an encouraging, practical look at what it means to love the neighbors right in front of you.

We are so...

Are you loving your neighbors, or secretly trying to fix them? Pastor Jason shares a disarmingly honest confession: his fantasy football draft became a covert evangelism project, and God had to redirect him. Through Jesus dining with outcasts in Matthew 9 and healing on the Sabbath in Luke 14, a powerful truth emerges: people are not problems to be solved. They are fellow children of God to be loved. As Salem continues its neighbor...

What if the words playing in your head are quietly shaping the world you live in? Pastor Tim unpacks the ancient wisdom of Proverbs and James, revealing that words aren't just sounds—they're swords that pierce or salve that heals, sparks that destroy or rudders that redirect entire lives. He vulnerably shares how, during his darkest seasons of ministry, a counselor challenged him to write down who he truly is—a list he ...

What if the "gardens" God has entrusted to you (your marriage, your children, your faith) are quietly filling with weeds while you're busy with good things? Pastor Vince reveals that biblical diligence isn't just hard work; it's love paying attention. Like Martha, so consumed serving Jesus she nearly missed Him, we too let the urgent crowd out the important. Little neglects become big losses, but the Gospel reminds us that even whe...

What if the most dangerous thing in your life isn't what you don't know, but what you don't know you don't know? Pastor Vince unpacks one of his favorite verses, Proverbs 15:22: "Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisors they succeed," revealing how pride quietly closes our ears to wisdom and ultimately to God. Through the cautionary story of King Rehoboam, who sought agreement instead of truth, this message challenges...

What if the loneliness you feel in a crowded room—or even in your own marriage—is a sign you're missing something God designed you for? Pastor Tim reveals that from the very beginning, God declared it "not good for man to be alone," and that wisdom about friendship isn't just advice—it's an invitation. Drawing from Proverbs and Jesus' own example of choosing his inner circle, this message challenges you to ask: *W...
