Join me as I cozily enjoy the Book of Mormon one chapter at a time, every Monday and Wednesday! I make jokes, add insight, context, and (hopefully) further understanding. Come for the goofy jokes and the casual atmosphere... stay for the neat gospel truths in every chapter.
This episode, we read as Captain Moroni and Pahoran retake the capital city, strategem the last Lamanite-posessed cities out from under them, and restore... finally.... peace. Oh, and Teancum does a murder again. This time, unfortunately, he doesn't get away with it. But Ammoron still dies, so it was still worth it. What an absolute chad. He is remembered fondly.
This episode, Pahoran (the person who received the angry letter Moroni sent last chapter) responded not with offense, anger or spite—but rather, with love, patience, and even excitement. Pahoran was ENCOURAGED by the complete shredding that Moroni sent. Listen along to find out why...

This episode, we read along as Captain Moroni, the intense man that he is, proceeds to send the most threatening, angry letter possible to the leadership in Zarahemla. Why? Because they are not sending the armies, food and weapons needed for the Nephites to be supported on the war front. Or, as Moroni might put it: The people in Zarahemla are lazing around on their thrones in a thoughtless stupor, too power-hungry to send any armie...
This episode is a lil transition between Helaman's epistle to Captain Moroni, and Captain Moroni's..... "strongly worded" epistle next chapter. Despite that, we still get some fun little tidbits in this chapter! I'm telling you, there's no chapter with nothing to learn in the Book of Mormon.

This episode, the Lamanites can't be decoyed again. They've been fooled twice before, but NOT this time. That is... until they ARE fooled again. They once again leave their strongholds (absolute fools, they are), and they are once again completely tricked into losing their occupied city. Must be hard to be so dumb.

This episode, the Nephites continue to curbstomp the Lamanites by taking back two cities, take loads of prisoners, and miraculously fighting off a Lamanite army. Very fun stuff. Did loads of Lamanite prisoners escape? Yes. Did the Nephites still win? Also yes.

This episode, we read as the tiny band of stripling warriors gets the better of (no hyperbole) the actual biggest Lamanite army. How do they do it? What are the consequences? Who's to say? Well, those who listen in, probably.

This episode, we read as the Nephites dance circles around their drunken Lamanite brethren, as they arm the very prisoners those passed-out guards were supposed to protect. Things.... don't go well for the Lamanites in this one.

This episode, we read as the children of the Anti-Nephi-Lehies stand up to help the struggling Nephite armies, because their parents made a covenant with God to not fight. They stand up to fight on behalf of their parents.
They're really fricken cool.

This episode, we read as the Lamanites get a new king and flank the Nephites on the east and on the west—then we zoom into one city, Mulek, and the Nephite's attempts to kick the Lamanites out.
How do you win against people in a fort? Get them out of the fort. There's absolutely no underlying allegory in this chapter.

This episode, just about everything goes wrong that can go wrong for the Nephites: internal civil conflict, an attacking army is approaching, and that army keeps winning fortified cities.
But then one person stands in that army's way......
Teancum.

This episode, we read as Captain Moroni fortifies the lands of the Nephites like a madman. In doing this, God achieves through him great peace and prosperity. That tenuous peace is broken though... not by attacking Lamanites, but by their own people erupting in conflict. This totally isn't trying to tell you something personally.

This episode, Captain Moroni once again absolutely dunks on Amalickiah and his (now clothed) Lamanite army. How does he do this? One word: preparation.

This chapter, we hear that Amalickiah (of last chapter's fame) isn't satisfied with being the king of the Lamanites. He in fact wants to be king over everyone. So, with that, he prepares (radicalizes, you might say) his people into hating the Nephites. Captain Moroni, on the other hand, is much more level-headed.

This chapter is perhaps the one with the most intrigue, sabotage, and drama in the entire Book of Mormon. Amalickiah starts the chapter as a Lamanite general, and ends it as the Lamanite king, having taken over everything that the previous king held dear. What a guy.

This episode, another antagonist arises—this time among the Nephites. What does Captain Moroni do about it? Here's a hint: he doesn't violently attack. He simply gathers supporters of liberty and freedom. And then Amalickiah pulls a General Grevious (star wars joke for ya) and promptly runs away.

This episode is one of transition. Alma speaks to his eldest son and hands over the high priesthoodship, blesses the church, then my man dips out of there and just goes on to never be seen again. Normal spiritual dude stuff it's fine. Now, his son is under the weight of Alma's massive strength and legacy.

In this episode, Moroni tries to let off Zarahemnah's army with an oath of nonviolence—but their pride will not let them concede. After Zarahemnah nearly kills Moroni point-blank, a soldier of Moroni's.... let's just say... makes a distinctive object lesson.

In this chapter..... the war chapters commence. We meet our first Lamanite general, Zarahemnah, and his formidable enemy Captain Moroni. Moroni starts off strong by clothing his armies. You wouldn't think clothes are an advantage... but they in fact are. Oh, also he shows off his ability to balance faith and works in the way he leads his armies. He's pretty cool.
