Join me as I cozily enjoy the Book of Mormon one chapter at a time, every Monday and Wednesday! I make jokes, add insight, context, and (hopefully) further understanding. Come for the goofy jokes and the casual atmosphere... stay for the neat gospel truths in every chapter.
This episode, we finish off the words of Samuel, with a resounding warning to the Lamanites. God misses them, and they need to get it out of their head that they are still His people. Because they aren't.

This episode, we get the joy of hearing Samuel continue speaking. This time, he talks at length about the signs of the coming of Christ—His birth, His death, and His mission. What a feast!

This episode, we start Samuel the Lamanite's words! He's a touchstone prophet in the Book of Mormon (spoiler: Jesus Christ Himself chastises the Nephites when He visits because they didn't write his words down)—so we should definitely sit up and listen.

This chapter really emphasizes the vast difference between us and God—our nothingness versus His Holiness, power, and perfection. This chapter isn't about alienating us from God, though. It's about emphasizing the miracle that is His perfect love.

This episode is absolutely all over the place in terms of righteousness—in the beginning, the Nephites are wicked, then they get righteous, then they get wicked and the Gadianton Robbers (who were exterminated earlier in the chapter) reform a few years later in a slightly different form, the people get a little righteouser and then return to being wicked..... yeah. It's a lot. I feel for Nephi right now.

This episode, we read as Nephi the prophet, after the whole debacle of the murder last chapter, receives the sealing power from God. It's a very dramatic scene. Once Nephi receives this earth-shattering power, and a message from God to the people, he doesn't even go home. He goes straight to preach to everyone he can possibly get himself in front of.

In this episode, not only do five people go to check whether or not Nephi's bold prophecy (that the Chief Judge was dead) was true, but those same five people get convicted for his murder and nearly killed. They're converted and later freed, after Nephi prophesies AGAIN exactly how to get a confession out of the real killer (the chief judge's brother). Very dramatic. 10/10 would watch again. This has been my Letterbo...
This episode, we read as Nephi continues to speak to his wicked Nephite countrymen. Some people believe his words about the coming of Christ, many don't. To prove his point, Nephi ends the chapter with an absolute power move—prophesying that the chief judge is currently laying in his own blood... they can go check. Next chapter... they do.

This episode, we hear a bit of Nephi's anger towards his wicked countrymen. He gets asked point blank by a random group of Nephites why he is mourning for his people, and so Nephi takes the opportunity to absolutely let 'em have it. He has some awesome words for them, lots to learn from.

This episode, we watch as the Nephite/Lamanite dynamic flips on its head—this time around, the Lamanites are becoming more and more righteous... and their Nephite counterparts are uhhh allying themselves with murderers. Yay!

This episode, not only do we get the sons of Helaman (Nephi and Lehi) quoting some of the BEST words of Helaman on the planet (Helaman 5:12), but we get to read as an entire group of wicked Lamanites—and even a Nephite dissenter—are quite literally spoken to by God, and they are completely changed.

This episode, we watch as the Nephites go downhill and lose almost all of their land to the warring Lamanites. They end up cornered (title drop woah) in the northern border of their lands. They do get half of their stuff back, but not before repenting and coming back to him.... for a bit.

This episode, we watch as the Nephites tear themselves apart—with absolutely zero help (yet) from Gadianton and his band of murderers. What causes the civil unrest? Easy—pride.

This episode, we read as Gadianton enters stage left. For those of you familiar with the BoM, Gadianton is really fricken important in just about the worst way possible. Even Mormon agrees.

This episode marks the chaotic beginning of the new era of the war chapters. The government shatters, murders happen, and a Lamanite army nearly murders everyone. Yippee!

This episode, we officially say goodbye to the book of Alma. It's been real. This chapter is a chapter in which the Nephites simply... enjoy their peace.
Also I 100% did forget to do a standout verse this episode. wow. What would your standout verse be if you got to choose?

This episode, we read as Captain Moroni and Pahoran retake the capital city, strategem the last Lamanite-posessed cities out from under them, and restore... finally.... peace. Oh, and Teancum does a murder again. This time, unfortunately, he doesn't get away with it. But Ammoron still dies, so it was still worth it. What an absolute chad. He is remembered fondly.

This episode, Pahoran (the person who received the angry letter Moroni sent last chapter) responded not with offense, anger or spite—but rather, with love, patience, and even excitement. Pahoran was ENCOURAGED by the complete shredding that Moroni sent. Listen along to find out why...

This episode, we read along as Captain Moroni, the intense man that he is, proceeds to send the most threatening, angry letter possible to the leadership in Zarahemla. Why? Because they are not sending the armies, food and weapons needed for the Nephites to be supported on the war front. Or, as Moroni might put it: The people in Zarahemla are lazing around on their thrones in a thoughtless stupor, too power-hungry to send any armie...
This episode is a lil transition between Helaman's epistle to Captain Moroni, and Captain Moroni's..... "strongly worded" epistle next chapter. Despite that, we still get some fun little tidbits in this chapter! I'm telling you, there's no chapter with nothing to learn in the Book of Mormon.
