Coming up at the bottom of the hour, around five
point thirty on the Pacific time, we'll have Adam Kaplan,
Fox Sports Radio, NFL Insider and Inside the Bird podcast host.
We'll talk to in the NFL with him, get closer
and closer. Carry to the NFL Draft. This is when
it starts to get interesting. Storylines start to change. Teams
put out one thing, that out another. We're gonna go no,
We're now, we're going quarterback. We can't stand any of
(01:03):
the quarterback prospects. We're gonna this. We'll treat you a
whole bunch of stuff up plus some signings and some
little small things that have happened in the NFL. So
we'll have some conversations with him regarding that. Uh, looking
forward to the conversation. And also I got something coming
up for you too as a music man. I told
Ryan said, we got to add this to the show.
So we'll do that a little bit later on a
(01:23):
little little music conversation for you, my guy. I thought
you would appreciate this all right, And we're coming to

rack dot COM's gonna help you get there and unmatched selection,
fast free shipping, free road has the protection, and over

Speaker 3 (01:45):
Carry So we got a couple more.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
Days of the NBA through Sunday, and of course we'll
know how everything situates when it comes to the playing tournament.
Then we'll know the seedings for the actual playoffs and
it'll be good.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
We'll be off and running from there.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
But I also wanted to have this thing since this
is pretty much the last time we'll be doing the
odd couple before the playoffs are all set. Let's do
our own NBA Awards ceremony, if you will. So, well,
let's start it off. Let's start a little lower. Let's
go with maybe Coach of the Year. Let's start there.
(02:20):
We'll work our way up.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
We'll do Coach of.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
The Year, maybe we can maybe do We'll do Defensive
Player of the Year, We'll do MVP, maybe even Rookie
of the Year, depending on time. But I definitely I'm
gonna get those three and Coach of the Year, Defensive
Player of the Year, and MVP as well. So who
do you have right now as Coach of the Year.
There's a few options. I think I've I've heard We've
(02:43):
had plenty of guests over the last couple of months,
who's throw out this name, throw out that name. But
for you, who strikes it up for you as you're saying,
you know what, everybody else has had some good the
great season, but this person, I gotta give it to him.
Speaker 5 (02:53):
Yeah, I mean, the Coach of the Year should be
undoubtedly given to JB. Bickerstaff with the Pistons, right, I mean,
you can obviously have Cleveland's coach Kenny Atkinson and that
in that mix as well, for what he did with Cleveland.
But Cleveland was already a you know, a team that
was ready to compete and ready to win, just needed
a little a little bit of tweaking here and there
(03:14):
to get them where they are now. So as far
as just a complete overhaul with the team and coming
with the team and taking them to newer and greater
heights and actually having an identity, it goes to JB.
Bickerstaff For me, what about you?
Speaker 4 (03:28):
It's funny you mentioned that it's the same thing I thought,
and I know a lot of people say Kenny Atkinson
a lot of people and email Udoko, which completely I
was just by saying, I completely can understand that. I mean,
we you kind of thought of Houston as an afterthought.
He gets there and he you know, now all of
a sudden, they're a real contending team, the little young
and I think a lot of people are gonna have
same that that save Oklahoma City mindset of a I
(03:49):
got to see it before I.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Believe it thing.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
But uh, they they are definitely a very interesting team
heading into this postseason.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
But for me, it's JB. Bickerstaff. Look, when you win
four teen games, when you.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
Lose twenty eight in a row, twenty eight in a row. Yes,
like the Pistons did last season. I mean that absolutely
has to have you right here in consideration. And then
you look at not only it's not as if they're
just like, Okay, they won some games and they've had
an improvement.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Dude, they're forty four and thirty six. There.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
I believe they're up at least last time I checked,
they were up today against the Bucks. Down three now, okay, halftime.
So but let's just let's say they messed around and
won this game. Now you'd be forty five in thirty six.
I mean, what an improvement. You know, we're already sitting
at a thirty game improvement at forty four wins. And
there's conversation we had Eddie House on if you listen
(04:44):
to some other NBA analysts that man, they might mess
around and beat the Knicks.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Yes, they've already beat them out through the season.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
You know, they've kind of had their number, and it's
an interesting conversation of man, not only so it will
be different. Oh, that's just cute. They got in and
they you know they were better. No, no, no, they're
real team that you're gonna have to beat. They're not
into playing. They're a sixty, they've got it on lock
and to me, they have a chance to make so noise.
So we agree on that JB Bickerstaff. But again, I
know there's gonna be some consideration for a couple other
(05:12):
coaches as well, and rightfully so, because Cleveland.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
I mean, I knew they'd be good.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
We knew they'd be a postseason team, maybe finish in
the top four in the East.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
We didn't expect sixty three wins. That's crazy.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
So I gotta give Kenny Akinson what he's done with
Cleveland some love. But I think for me, going and
knowing they're gonna be good and they should be good,
as they should have been even better last year when
it came to the postseason, that that's why JB gets
the nod because nobody expected this a thirty game turnover
from the Pistons.
Speaker 5 (05:42):
Yeah, no, it's been. It's just been remarkable to see, man.
I mean, obviously we go back to the Detroit Piston
bad boy era where they had some success. And the
thing about them right now, right they've dug themselves out
of the hole that they were in. I guess the
obscurity that they were in for such a while. Now
By actually a in that same brand of basketball, which
is fun to see, especially from a guy like me,
(06:03):
from you know, being a viable watcher of the NBA
around that time. To see them come back and kind
of do what the same way they did it when
they had their most success, it's just kind of cool
to see.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
I love it.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
I love that they're embracing it, you know. I mean
they're not doing that. No, we don't want to be there.
We know what they're not. Yo, we the bad boys.
We're gonna be tough. We're gonna represent for the city.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
I love it.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
I think it's the beautiful thing. I understand sometimes different
teams when I have an identity when it want to,
you know, be something different. But I just love that
they're embracing this, and I love the cities getting behind them.
All right, let's go to the defensive Player of the Year.
What's funny about this one, Carrie, is most of the
guys that are in contention are low key. Lou Dort's
low key, Ivan Zubatch is low key. It would have
(06:44):
been win ben Yama's without a doubt, if Winby wouldn't
have got injured.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
I mean, my gosh, he's gonna be special.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
And I think that's part of what makes me special
is he's so skilled offensively, but he cares about defense too.
You know, he wants to be great at defense and
so uh so, dang it, you know, with wish him
the best of speedy recovery.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
But Draymond Green has been a politician. Carry.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
Yes, he is taking any platform letting him know, including
his own. Hey, I want to win the fensive Player
of the year. Hey, what's your favorite color is green?
But by the way, I want to be fined foray
the year. All right, if you go to Los Angeles, dude,
you love in and Alberger.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
Yes I do.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
But by the way, I want to tell you that
I want to be I want to defend player of
the year, and so that's what I'll just stay with it.
For me, he is my defensive player of the Year
right now. And it's not because he is politicking for it.
It's because if you watch this team, man, it's just
remarkable at this stage in his career, the level of
guys he can guard. Watching him the other day when
they're playing the Lakers, he's guarding Lebron, you know, then
(07:38):
you watch him another night.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
He's guarding a SA bonus.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
You know, he's watching a big seven foot probably got
twenty five thirty five pounds over him. He's guarding bigs,
he's barning wings, he's picking switches. He's got to guard
smaller guys his IQ on the defensive end. So, I mean,
I know he's politicing. I know that's kind of some people.
It turns him off.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
It's it's a you know, like a guy telling me
he wants a war so bad.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
Yeah, But when you watch them play, what he means
to that team defensively being the quarterback, it is remarkable
to see and with Winby out to me and Jaron
Jackson Junior, not you know who's won it before, not
necessarily looking amazing defensively this year. To me, I think
it is Draymonds to be at it is. I mean,
it's Draymons. And I agree with you one hundred percent.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Man.
Speaker 5 (08:21):
He's letting anybody that wants to hear it, and anybody
wants to hear about it know about it. He's letting
him know that he is the right man for the job.
But I mean he is when you watch him play.
I mean, like you said, the versatility and the way
he can guard and who he can guard as a player.
I mean it's unmatched because it's his size as well.
But I mean obviously defensive MVP is one of those things, man,
(08:43):
where it's such a team award. Really when you think
about defense, like nope, I mean you can stop one
guy and still lose a game about fifty points, you
know what I mean? So right, right, right, value of
it is it's high. It's still a high award in
my opinion because it's an effort thing.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
But it is a team thing.
Speaker 5 (08:59):
And I think when you look at the you know,
the Warriors right now and that turnaround this second half
of the season, that added to the fuel for the
fire for him to actually be in in the running
for because that's true. If it was true, yeah, because
if they were continuing the way they were playing, I
don't think we would be hearing him as much. But
the fact that they're winning and they've been winning since
it all start breaking, he's had a big hand in that. Yeah,
(09:21):
I'll hand it to Dramond.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
All right, Ryan you.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
There, let me hit you give me an Alex, give
me a drum rolls. We get to this MVP conversation. Right,
this is the one we've had arguments on.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Rob and I go at it.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
People go at it when we have the guests on
the show, and you know what, it reminds me of
a little bit of the Josh Allen Lamar Jackson where Hello, Okay,
you that you heard that drum roll? You notice I
move forward. Let me tell you Sheila E is not
in there right now. That was the worst drum roll
somebody it is? You know what that was, Carrie? That
was a Friday drummer us Friday.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
I'm tired. Yes, yes, it's been a long week. That
drum one. That drum roll wasn't even rolling.
Speaker 5 (09:58):
Look, I'm looking at him as he do as he did,
and I was like, yeah, that's not it.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
That's not what she was That Alex Ryan, So I
can know who to cut out.
Speaker 5 (10:05):
I tell them, Yeah it was Ryan, forget it, Yeah
it was Ryan.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
You're Ryan. I don't even know if that was a shot. Ryan.
Somebody might need to give you a shot of espresso
right now. That's grim ro Alex.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
You better give me one two. I know you probably
have one in your sound bank. You got something in
it that you can hit. But no, again to the
MVP reminds me of Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, where all right,
both absolutely deserve it having phenomenal seasons.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
In this case Jokis and SGA. What do you like?
Speaker 4 (10:34):
Do you like a guy who's having more team success?
Do you like a guy who's who can play both
sides of the wall. Do you like a guy who
are doing things we've never seen when it comes to number,
guys's with sixty point triple doubles and yo kids.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
So it's a difficult one, it is.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
And also the story, this is why I was telling
Rob so long Josh Allen's gonna win MVP, because Lamars
wanted a couple of times that people go like, ah,
I'm a little tired that no, way.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
No, And I was right.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
This is reminding me of that Jokis has three sums
to say he could have had four.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
Some say maybe could have had five.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
You never know, And I think some people are like
all right, But for me, the defining difference and why
I give it to SGAK is because when.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
Your team has a eighteen.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
Game better winning record, you're the other guy's eighteen games behind.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
That's a massive difference.
Speaker 4 (11:26):
You know what I mean, like, he's not five games
behind six Okay, it's tight, eighteen game lead against a team,
and a team that is supposed to be, you know,
one of the better ones in that they got a
guy who is you know, been an MVP so many
times in Yokis you maybe expect them to be competing
for the first seed, a second seed. For them to
be fourth currently and be eighteen games behind, that's a
(11:47):
That's the main thing for me that edges out Joki.
And also SGA is playing fantastic on the defensive end
as well. He's one of the better wing defenders in
the league. And it's great to see a guy who
embraces who can score thirty plus for three years in
a row and still get you great, great, great defense
on the other side of the ball.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
I'm talking narrowly, but I give it the SGA.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
He's up eighteen games in the win column, he plays defense,
and he's giving you thirty plus a night.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
That edges it out for me.
Speaker 4 (12:18):
But again, it's one of those if you say, Jokic,
I'm not mad at you who you got.
Speaker 5 (12:22):
Yeah, you know what's crazy about the MVP, man, it's
it is what you said it's a combination of all
those things, right, And so the thing about that award
for me, it's become to a point now where it's
a little taint it for me because the best player
in the league should be but they never have Michael
Jordan only having five as it said, Lebron with only four.
(12:43):
It's crazy, you know, shack with one like they never have, Yes,
And that's why I agree with you. But you know,
because Jokis is the best player in the league. But
this year, this individualized year, this one single season, I mean,
this team has, I mean the best record in the NBA.
The team success does matter. I don't myself like really
(13:06):
like watching sg a play and that's just my own
personal thing. But you cannot, you cannot take away from
its greatness.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
And what is it? Is it the free throw line,
getting all the files, the new modern James Harden?
Speaker 5 (13:19):
It really is. It annoys me because when those when
those calls are given to certain players and it's not
giving to other players, and you watch that happen in
real time, it's put me. It just puts me off
a little bit. But he's a great player and he
is deserving to win the MVP. This year, So I
would say he is the m v P.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
No, no, no, I know it wasn't.
Speaker 5 (13:40):
I know it wasn't a glowing endorsement, but it between
it's between those two.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
Yeah, and I would give it the SGA. I would
that was not a glow That was the equivalent. That
endorsement was equivalent of Ryan's drum roll. That's that's what
you said. It like SCA had a gun behind your back.
You're like, yeah, yeah, I guess I gotta give that.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
There you go ride. You put a little off on
that right there.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
All right, you know what, let's open it up eight seven,
seven ninety nine on Fox since the NBA is gonna
be in and over the weekend, and obviously we don't
have a weekend show the odd Couples, So we want
to hear from you. You liked our picks, SGA. We
both agree for the MVP. Both agree on JB. Bickerstaff
as well. Do we agree on Draymond Green too?
Speaker 6 (14:24):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (14:24):
We did. What the heck is the clean sweat?
Speaker 4 (14:26):
We're not the odd couple right now, We're supposed to
be a odds right now, I'm about to change. Matter
of fact, I'm gonna pretend you didn't say SGA since
you didn't really want.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
To, Well I didn't.
Speaker 5 (14:34):
Yeah, so I'm jokis there.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Who you got?
We're doing some of the awards.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
You can do another one if you want Most Improved,
the Rookie of the Year, as well, if you got
some other things from just watching the NBA throughout this season.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
We're doing the.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
Awards for the league the Association. Hit us up eight
seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Don't forget. We got
Adam Kaplan coming up here in just a little bit.
It's The Odd Couple Kelvin and Carey who was in
for Rob in Fox Sports Ring.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Rob Parker and kelvin Washington weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
How dare you, Alex?
Speaker 2 (15:14):
You what?
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Now you want to give me the drum?
Speaker 4 (15:21):
You know? Boy? I tell you, I hope you go
back to the beach again, laying out there with your lady, Alex,
and I hope it starts raining.
Speaker 5 (15:30):
My god, embrace it still.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
You would embrace it.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
You totally would it's the odd couple Calvin Washington and
Carrie Rose, who's and for Rob on this funky flashback
Friday where Alex is completely breaking the rules. You cannot
play Summertime until it is officially summertime. You got about
two months or so before you can play this song. Yes,
it's absolutely no. I ain't gonna lie summer. But however,
(16:00):
we live in La Yes, but our folks are freezing
out in the Midwest and East coast right now.
Speaker 5 (16:04):
All right, great Salam says, we all make choices.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
That is true. You ain't lying about that.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
I did take my bus from Detroit to here, and
we're coming to you live Fromthtirack dot Com studios. Calm
the chaos with the shipping software that delivers use code
sports for a free trial at shipstation dot com. That
shipstation dot Com and again the code is sports.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
All right. You know, the season's wrapping up on Sunday,
So Carrie and.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
I have the conversation just basically giving out our awards
because we wouldn't be able to do that any other time.
So we're giving out some Coach of the Year, we
gave out MVP, gave out Defensive Player of the year,
said eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. Just your
thoughts on the awards for the season, some guys you
want to highlight who had a good or great.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
Season for you?
Speaker 4 (16:49):
Eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox. And let's go
out to Lou in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Lou, you're on with
the Odd Couple Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 5 (17:03):
LOUI there, Yes, I am, yes, magotcha Lou.
Speaker 6 (17:08):
Okay. Now, growing up, when you were in the basketball court,
two guys would pick the games. Who would be the
first two? Pick? Joker or SGAG? Who would you pick?
Speaker 3 (17:22):
I'm trying to really think about.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
I mean, SGA is more playground ball if you're asking that,
I mean just because he you know, he's more of
a guard than he But Yokers, being a seventh footer,
obviously I got a great advantage, and you got.
Speaker 6 (17:36):
The rebounds, you got the assist, and without without the Joker,
Denver would might not even make the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (17:45):
True, well that's true. I mean listen with Jamal Murray
being out all the time. Uh, they definitely wouldn't be
able to. But I mean I hear you again, s
g A for his team, you could argue the same, right,
I mean, Jaylen Williams was a an All Star, but
it's not like he is some big time perennial All Star,
you know what I mean, He's not like prime stephor
(18:06):
KD or something like that.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
And SGA.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
I mean again, to be up eighteen games Carrie's that's
one of the big parts for me is that's a
massive league lead in the race for the conference. And also,
how many times have we heard, you know, they always
want to support the best player on the best team, right,
We know we've seen that so many times, and that
that alone carry has been the reason why sometimes some
(18:31):
of the better players we thought, oh so and so
is a better player hasn't won because he might have
been a second or third seed in his conference and
the best player on the best team, you know, that's
who got it that particular year.
Speaker 5 (18:43):
Yeah, I mean, this the whole thing about who would
you take to start your team with. That's all subjective, right,
I mean, depends on what type of team you want,
what type of organization you are. I mean, it's not
like it's not your your your mom and dad's basketball.
Back in the day when obviously it was a centership,
and so that's a little different now, So I mean,
now with the wide open space and the way they're
(19:04):
running offenses at this point, I don't know. It's a
tuss up. And I think that's the part about this
debate that makes it a debate, because they're both great,
and I think you could, you could you You're fine
with you either one.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
Yeah, I mean, And that's the thing I still believe.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
I mean, I've said it a million times and I'll
probably say it as long as I'm on the air here,
just that I do believe human whether you want to
call it error, whether you want to just call it
emotions or thoughts come in or habits.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
And I say that I'm talking about voter fatigue. Carrie.
I think that's a real thing. Man. You're you're asking
humans to, you know, do things that humans are gonna do.
Speaker 4 (19:38):
They're gonna go this guy again, and sometimes I don't
even think they mean to do it. I think when
someone's even too young. So let's say next year, Cad
Cunningham is in the top three, which is not crazy,
and then somebody might go, man, he may even deserve it,
but they'll go, ah, he's young, he'll get it one day, yes,
(19:59):
And they give it to somebody else who's been teetering
right in the line of it, you know. So let's
say somehow Joki wins this year, Well, that voter might go,
let me give it to SGA.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
It's just his year, and Kate will get it next year.
He's young, you know, right.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
That happens as well, where they kind of keep postponed
because they're like, hey, that person's time will come. And
but the thing when you do that, Carrie, you never know,
they may never be as good a game, they may
never have a season again, ye you know, or someone
else may emerge. So we'll have to wait and see.
But that's pretty much how Carry and I saw the season.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
All right.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
We got Adam Kaplan getting ready to join us here
a little bit. We'll talk some NFL news with him
getting closer to the draft. Interested to hear his thoughts

Speaker 3 (20:53):
It is the yakable Kelvin Washington Carry rolls in for
Rob today.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
Rob's out there having some good time on the East Coast,
and we're going out by Adam Kaplan, Fox Sports Radio,
NFL Insider, Inside the Birds Podcast, Kaplan NFL on x
AKA Twitter.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
Adam, what's up, brother? How you doing? Guys could have
talked you networth less than two weeks a week from
the draft. Lot's going on.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
Oh well, this is where I was just saying the carry.
Everybody starts jocking stuff we heard a month ago. No
longer matters. We're going for a quarter by no way, No,
we're not. We would never draft Travis Hunter. Oh wait,
we're looking at Travis Hunter. All this stuff starts to happen.
I want to go with one of these things that
we're seeing right here becomes interesting. So we got this
little tweet out here. You got someone put out about
(21:37):
the ninth pick becoming interesting.
Speaker 5 (21:39):
It was Lewis Riddick.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
Lewis Riddick put that out and Coach prom Oh yeah,
shout out to loom. Coach Prime puts the eyeballs emoji
like and we know some people at him. Even as
we've talked to you over the last several weeks. You know,
Schador was a top three, top five sure man, top
ten man. He's meeting with Pittsburgh. They don't draft till
twenty first. Maybe he'd landing that. We don't know exactly
(22:01):
what's happening. What do you think of him at ninth?
You got his dad put down eyeball emojis.
Speaker 7 (22:05):
Yes, okay, here's the storage shud or Sander. So the
reason why in mackdress that I've done, I put Shuore
at three is because the Giants need a future quarterback, right.
They don't need that guy to play the season. But
you know, when you're picking that high and you're the
Giants at three and you don't know who your quarterback
is going to be past the season, like to solve
it because the hope is you can you continue to
(22:25):
get better, and you're picking the twenties, which means you're
a good football team. So the reality is, sure, let's
call it like it at Shureer Sanders is a top
forty pick. He's probably going to go in the first round.
But he's what do you say, a nice quarterback, pretty
sharp kid, obviously son of a coach and a Hall
of Fame player, but it's really a one quarterback elite
(22:46):
draft and cam Ward who's going to go one?
Speaker 3 (22:48):
And after that.
Speaker 7 (22:50):
It's it's just okay, it's not again, it's not a
really good quarterback draft. And this is not the year
to start reaching for a quarterbacks. So do you bet
honx with you? If you're the Giants, you go with
Russell Wilson.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
They're going to do that.
Speaker 7 (23:06):
You're probably gonna get Abdul Carter, who's a great prospect.
You don't worry about the fact that you've got Thibodeau
there and Brian Burns you Thibodeau, they don't they could,
they don't need to sign to an extension and play
out this fifth yr option, and then you know you'll
stick Carter in there. So the bottom line is you
take the best player available for the future and you
live with it, and you don't worry about the fact
(23:26):
that you don't get a quarterback. I know, I know
this is not good for the future of the general
manager and the head coach. But the fact of the
matter is they failed a quarterback previously and this is.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
What they have.
Speaker 5 (23:37):
Adam, all right, let's talk about the Browns for a minute. Sure,
they I think they made this move a year too
late bringing this guy back. But yeah, what do you
think about Flacco being back in Cleveland and what what
does that represent for that room in there?
Speaker 3 (23:52):
Yeah, here's what I'm told.
Speaker 7 (23:53):
All right, So last year in everyone locally and a
lot of the coaches won Flack go back. But this
is crazy, is the sounds was telling you what multiple
coaches told me that when you know, Watson didn't saw
what happened with Joe Flaccau Flaco with how he energized
the team, and they're worried that that that Watson would
(24:15):
feel like I had a quarterback, you know, he had
to look over his shoulder because of what happened, and
Flack would put the team in the playoffs two years ago. Right,
that was the feeling around multiple coaches I spoke with it.
It doesn't sound very fair, but and I'm not going
to speak for de Seauan Watson, but that was the
feeling around people who know what's going on. So that
was clearly a mistake, dumb mistake, and they paid for it.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
You know.
Speaker 7 (24:34):
The funny thing about the Browns is you look at
the roster, you go, you know what, it's an above
average roster. Yes, the quarterback play with Watson's been terrible,
some of the worst quarterback play we've ever seen. But
the fact of the matter is, you know, they're good
at receiver, excellent defense, offensive lines are not bad. You know,
they got to figure out the running back position without
Nick Chubb. But there's there's enough there. I mean, there's
(24:56):
absolutely enough there.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
Adam.
Speaker 5 (24:57):
We talked about that a couple of solds ago. Remember
I was I was saying the same thing. Why so
many people down on the Browns because coming into right
coming into last year, I thought that team would be
in the playoffs. And that's not the quarterback play, notwithstanding.
Speaker 7 (25:10):
Right as you know carry Yes, by the way, as
you lived, that's an NFL player. When you don't have
good quarter play, a quarterback play, it just shows it
doesn't matter how good your rosters.
Speaker 4 (25:18):
If good quarterback play, you're not gonna be very good.
Well well yeah, we all would know that. How important
in that position is.
Speaker 6 (25:25):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
One of the conversations we have too is what the
heck do teams want to do? When it comes to
Travis Hunter. He went out there and showed him at
him this is how you know I'm catching I'm doing
my pro day with no gloves on, showing him how
much of a real.
Speaker 7 (25:39):
It was funny because he's got great hands. That's the
word in scouting. It's funny.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
You bring that up. I I that is actually true,
but keep going. I just wanted people on, Well, no,
I mean that.
Speaker 4 (25:48):
I think that's a big deal because I think what
he's saying is that because some teams are saying, hey, oh,
we're just gonna play him as a dB, I think
it was I think very deliberate and intentional to say no,
I'm still a skilled and gifted receiver as well, and
maybe it starts to open up more positions, more opportunities
for him, and maybe even how a team may want
to utilize him.
Speaker 7 (26:05):
All right, a couple of things here, just so let's
go into this side of the situation. So Travis Hunter
is obviously an incredible athlete and great football player, really
smart kid by the way, intellectually like he's tested well,
really good to college student. He's the best player overall
for this draft. Okay, let's also let people know that
he's the best player. So if the Titans didn't need
(26:26):
a quarterback, he would go at one, and by the
way the Titans have a major needed corner, which just
so happens, but they also needed The quarterback always supersedes everything,
So Travis Hunter is a guy that most teams would
like to play a corner. However, when I found fat
and I was there Andrew Burry, the general manager of
the Browns at the combine, he's usually very tight left.
I don't know why he did this, but he was asked, well, hey,
(26:47):
you know, how do you see him? And he said,
you know, we see him more as a receiver and
I was like, wow, okay, well you know then we
didn't really know enough. He put it out there, so
now here's the feeling. Okay, and carry could attest to
this as being former player from a game planning standpoint,
you know, you got to know if you're a position
(27:07):
coach and a coordinator, Okay, am I going to have
him this week?
Speaker 3 (27:09):
What is he playing?
Speaker 7 (27:10):
And how do I game plan? It's see, fans don't
get that. Oh what are you talking about? He's a
two way player, can do whatever you want. It doesn't
work that way. Eventually, you have to be able to
game plan. This is not Deon Sanders here. Okay, ironically,
you know, it's very hard.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
I don't know. Carry tell me this is a former player.
Speaker 7 (27:28):
Yeah, physically, how could he possibly hold up mentally to
having two game plans for let's say he's getting sixty
plays a week we where there's actually one hundred and twenty,
but you know, the sixty plus sixty right offensive defense?
How could he possibly hold up doing like, I don't know,
eighty on one side and forty on the other.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Is it possible?
Speaker 5 (27:51):
He can't? Thank you No, I just all this talk
around him playing both both positions full time is just
it's bloney to me. I don't really get into that conversation.
I think it's you have to designate him as one
player and really get in the playbook and understand the
game schematic stuff on a different level than than most colleges.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
Now.
Speaker 5 (28:12):
Colorado may be a little bit more advanced. I'm not
sure with the pros being there, but you need to
understand terminology and understand your teammate and actually be there
enough to be good at that position before you learn
enough position in that league. It's just for me, it's
it's crazy to think about. But we'll see.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
You know what, you know what? You know?
Speaker 4 (28:30):
He just let me to I gotta go ahead and
pooh pool you, Carrie one time for Rob, come on.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
In honor of my boy and I love, I love.
That isn't funny how he gets his voice real high?
Its Ray gets it a bit.
Speaker 4 (28:44):
Adam Adams pretty good, by the way.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
That's actually really good, well, Adam, I sit next to him. Wow.
I don't know if that fortunate or unfortunate.
Speaker 7 (28:54):
I bet Rob twenty some years ago at the Combine
when he was a columnist, was for whatever De Trey paper. Yeah,
we don't really know each other then, but it's just
kind of funny. I do remember him very vividly with
that voice.
Speaker 4 (29:05):
Fun Yeah, I mean he's very It's it's distinct. But
I say that to say, I do think can't there
be something that special? We look at show hey, and
they would have told you there's no way he's gonna
pitch in it.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
You know, Well he is, but he's not getting tackled,
but he's not chilling anyone.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
But he's not even pitching. Hold on, hold up, it's
with the Nate Dog was he is? He was pitching
and he is gonna pitch now, Carrie, how have you.
Speaker 5 (29:31):
No Kevin will see how long.
Speaker 4 (29:33):
But I have you said that? This is what I
was asking both of you, Adam and Carrie. I'm saying,
can I say, Look, I'm not an idiot. If I'm
a GM, he's not gonna play both sides of the
ball for five six years. But if for a year
or two I can have this special, unique guy, I
can sell him to the fan base this way. I
love the marketing of it. If I'm Nike, we can
(29:54):
do a whole bow nose campaign. Isn't that great to
not even to not shut it down now and keep
the suspense of it all, Like I don't about drafted.
I'm not shutting it down. I want the I want
the theatrics of it. I want everything of it.
Speaker 7 (30:06):
So my understanding is from talking to some of these
teams that wanted to play corner, they're not opposed to
him playing receivers, but they want him mostly playing at
corner like that, and receiver wuld be like a change
of like if you're behind, or if you're in the
red zone, or you know, if you're on third down
and you want to play a lot of what we
call eleven or ten personnel. Ten personnel meets four receivers,
one back and no tight end, or eleven personnel, three receivers,
(30:29):
one back, one tight end, where you're going to spread
the field and get him out there where his size
and speed. I could certainly see that, but you just
cannot beat the guy up physically.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
You can't do that. He's way too important. He's the
best player for this draft.
Speaker 7 (30:43):
And it's by the way, it's a great discussion because
these are the same discussions that a coordinator, position coach,
head coach, and general manager have to have.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
They have You have to know what you're going to
do with him. You can't just figure it out later.
It doesn't work like that. You have to kind of
have a game plan and think.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
About it, like this's Adam McKelvin. So this we're seeing it,
like this is this phenomenon that's about to happen. Somebody
that can play both ways. There are plenty people that
can play both ways. It's we're just talking about the
workload here. I mean, we had I had a rookie
come in when I was in Arizona in twenty eleven
named Patrick Peterson. You know, but that's the point, like
(31:19):
he could have but you can't do it just can't
do it. It's really hard to do.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
You can't.
Speaker 4 (31:24):
It is physically you out here canting people carry it out.
Don't even fit your personality. Hope, I hope he. I
hope he has eleven pass deflected, five interceptions and six
touchdowns receiving.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
That's what I hope. He who crazy?
Speaker 7 (31:44):
That really would be crazy? But you know that if
it goes to the Browns, I could think, will happen?
Speaker 3 (31:51):
Listen? How great would that be? I mean, how great
would that be if.
Speaker 7 (31:54):
It happens because of all that they've been through, those
fans and the dog Pound, get a special talent like
that would be pretty cool for sure.
Speaker 4 (32:01):
Yep, Hey Adam, we appreciate you man, enjoy your weekend.
Thank you, Jordan Couple, thank you so much. Getting closer
and closer to the draft. I can't believe you care.
That ain't the real carry No.
Speaker 5 (32:13):
No, I you know what that that because this conversation
really it really moves me in a way that it
isn't me. It isn't my normal approach to anything, but
it's you.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
Know that, and you s g A take SG know
you are right.
Speaker 5 (32:29):
No Kelvin, no man, those kids wore you out today
mentor they did. They did, I'm like, just say no,
but no, I want to say no to that conversation
because I've seen so many special players that don't get
that chance, and I know they're just as talented. I'm
not saying he isn't the most talented everort I don't
know that, but to say it so casual.
Speaker 4 (32:51):
You saying I mean, and then you could argue a
lot of the league would say, how offensive is that
to us? Like all the stuff that we you know,
we you don't think we've seen the Charles Woods and
you know so I get it all right, we got
We talked about a little bit with Kaplan there the
Browns signing Joe Flacco. Just want to get Carrie's thought
if he was in the locker room of how you
handle you got Deshaun Watson who said I'm coming back,
(33:12):
I'm better than ever. We just talked about that yesterday
on our show and now them signing today, Joe Flacco.
Speaker 3 (33:17):

(34:21):

Carry didn't want to get your thoughts on We were
talking about a little bit with Adam kaplanman Joe Flacco.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
Who's had an interesting last few years.
Speaker 4 (34:33):
He's become like the Hey, I know I'm not the
guy the future, but if you want somebody to come
steady the ship, hol at your boy. You know, he's
become that like, Hey, if you just want somebody to
get things right for a little bit, call me, I'm available.
Speaker 5 (34:48):
Isn't that a luxury though, to get later in your
career and actually have something a team wants and actually
do it to the point where you know, maybe who's
to keep this guy around for a little bit long
Like Cleveland, that situation where he steps into the into
that team kind of states the ship gets him to
the playoffs. But then he gets to the playoffs and
(35:09):
then you see why he isn't the starter, right, Like
he's he's good enough to steady the ship and you know,
get you some wins here and there throughout the season,
very season, super Bowl when the quarterback has that DNA,
but also shows you, you know in the playoffs he's
he's turn over prone, right, and so he's part of
that real he's part of that same fabric. So you
(35:30):
look at a Flacco that comes in, you look at
Jameis Winston last year, right provided a little spark, but
always kind of falls back to turning the ball over
and doing doing that as well. So there's a risk
in Dore's a risk reward situation that's similar with James Winston.
With with Joe Flocco. I think he's a little bit
more steady, but he still has some of those same tendency.
So yes, can he come in and help you, help
(35:52):
you guys win some games and and with the team
that's ready to compete, be there to be a facilitator
and help that team go. Yeah, I think it's a
good move. But yeah, it's not gonna be long. I mean,
it's it's only a stop gap.
Speaker 3 (36:05):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 4 (36:07):
You brought up laughing because you brought up Jameis Winston,
and it's just hilarious because he's just like, oh, Lord, Lord,
have me come on, cut down these turn up his Lord,
and you're like, You're like, man, come on, like you
just threw you know, three hundred and fifty yards and
you you had four touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (36:25):
You look great, And people were like, maybe he's turned
the corner.
Speaker 4 (36:27):
He could be a starter again in the next game
of a Buck twelve with three interceptions and two fumbles lost.
Speaker 3 (36:33):
You're like, oh, He's like, oh, man, I gotta come on,
I I just gotta get those turnovers down. I don't
know what. They always bite me. They always bite me
in the crab legs.
Speaker 5 (36:41):
It's like Kelvin. You know, he's from you know, I've
known Jamons since he was probably around like five four
or five years old. He's from my hometown. So that's funny.
So when I talk, when I hear James and I
look at him, man, I he's so country. He's so
true to who he is in two ways. Bom man,
it's it's it's refreshing on that it is.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
Actually it's endearing.
Speaker 4 (37:01):
I think that's why his teammates love him and fans
even like fans just love them. And you're starting to
see h during the super Bowl week during all the
media stuff. You saw him out there for I don't
remember who would outlet he was with, but he was
doing all that stuff out there just was Fox.
Speaker 3 (37:16):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (37:17):
Yeah, He's out there being a being himself, being a
character which is just him. And I think that's why
teams love him, man, because he's absolutely just a fun,
lovable person being around, but Deggett, all those turnovers Shaq
and Dwight Howard, This will be interesting.
Speaker 3 (37:31):
