You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio living the dream

Speaker 2 (00:09):
It is Fox Sports Sunday, and we are broadcasting live
from the ti iraq dot com studios.
Speaker 1 (00:14):

Speaker 2 (00:15):

thousand recommended installers ti rack dot com the way tire
buying should be. I was listening to Kerrie Rhodes doing
the show with Montsey here before we got on the air, VJ.
And he said, this is his Christmas, this is his
(00:37):
biggest day of the year. This is a great NFL
player obviously played at the Ville, so you know he
knows basketball well, he was there. You know he knows
about the Patino and the whole situation at Louisville, going
back to the Denny Crumb days.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Where does this right for you? VJ?
Speaker 2 (00:54):
I mean in terms of your interests and across the
board sports guy like you are, Where does the whole
march madness fit in for you?
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Man?
Speaker 4 (01:04):
Where does it fit in? I would probably have it.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Maybe third or fourth behind Kickoff Sunday, NFL Kickoff Sunday
Super Bowl Sunday Final four weekend. And it's kind of
right there too, Natty College National Football Cham. It's so
fluctuating now, right, you got twelve teams in, right, So
it's not a day, right, it's a month.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
Right, it's not a day.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Oh oh, and it's never going to happen again, hopefully
maybe one more time. But Sunday in AUGUSTA if Tiger's
in shot or Tigers the lead, right, Tiger's in shot
or Tiger's the lead for twenty years?
Speaker 5 (01:47):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:47):
Yes? Right?
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Well, you know I was on the air with Katino
Mobiley here at Fox Sports Radio. Yes, Cap Mobiley and
I were doing the show together when Tiger won that
last Masters. Until we were on the air, and I'll
never forget this. Ralph Irvin was doing the updates. Ralph's
(02:08):
a big golf guy, and right before I toss to
the update is where Tiger is hugging.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
His mom, and I choked. I was on the air.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
I mean, the whole thing was so surreal watching him
win and everything else.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
It was incredible.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
And you know, I'm watching him win that Masters after
all those years, ten years since he.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Had won a major and everything else, and so I'm
with you.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
I mean, the thing that really stands out for me
personally as a UCLA guy is just when they reveal
the brackets and just that anticipation of when I'm going
to see Ucla now it really sort of brings up
a point today. By the way, just to update you
on where we stand. So there were five championship games today.
(03:00):
Right now, it's final seconds in the IVY League Championship.
It looks like Yale is going to hold on and
beat Cornell, so they will advance to the tournament. There
we got Florida and Tennessee. Right now they have Florida's
leading Tennessee thirty nine to thirty. How about Florida against Alabama?
They blew the doors off and a game near and
dear to uv JVCU and George Mason heading a halftime
(03:24):
right now, are getting close. Couple of minutes in the
first half. We've had fisticuffs in this game already. Between
the top two seeds in the Atlantic Ten, and then
later the AAC Championship between Memphis and UAB and then
finally the Big Ten Championship Michigan and Wisconsin, and then
the field will be set. But when you get down
to those brackets and the revealing of the brackets. I
(03:46):
think one thing that people have to keep in mind
about these conference tournaments, because I've seen a couple of
projections for UCLA still has a six seed after getting
blown out and bears by Wisconsin the other day, is
that the way the brackets work is that they pretty
much have the brackets set before these major conference tournaments.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
That's what they tell us.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Well, if you look at it, they rarely penalize schools
for early losses in these conference tournaments. If you see
where a team was projected and like, oh that was
an ugly loss, doesn't.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Seem to be a big penalty.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Their biggest nightmare, obviously, is when you get an upset
like NC State last year running the table. Would not
you know they you know they they win the AC
scene and now we got to scramble around.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Remember they had them well and they were an eleven seed.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
So they win the ACC tournament and they're still only
an eleven seed, and then Keith's got them on a
miracle run to get to the final four.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
In a year later he's out of a jet.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
But that's something like for me with ucl I would think, okay,
that was ugly got blown out by Wisconsin.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Tajay. This guy has been on fire for Wisconsin. This
guy's filling it up with threes.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
But right now I'm looking at some of the brats
still have them as sixty I hope. But that is
the thing about selection, Sunny, is just to see the
reveal and you know, surprises, maybe a higher seating there,
the excitement of a school like you see San Diego,
you know, making the tournament for the first time.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
They show how excited the kids are.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Just that that whole environment with the reveal of the brackets.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
To me is High Point super special? First time ever
for high Point. High Point?
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Yes, the other one.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
There's another one right there down in North Carolina, another
school I'm very familiar with.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
How about this when you see San Diego, So there
have been a Division two school and I didn't know this.
You have a four year waiting period where you're even
eligible once you make.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
The transferred Division one. Yes, not only did the men's
team make it, but the women's team made it as
well in their first year of eligibility. So special time
for the Tritons.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Yeah, that's right, And it's funny because you university of
San Diego. I've called two of their college football games
for cal Poly San Luis Obispo for ESPN twelve eighty.
So I've seen that football program member Jim Harball, Yeah,
Jim Harbor.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Well, you know who's the basketball could They had a
miserable You're at USD this year.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
Steve Lavin exactly for.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Former national championship coach with old Bannon uh In, Toby
Bailey and Tyas Edney and those guys.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
Hold on, hold on, I could tell you a real
behind the scenes story on that one.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
So they're in Seattle for the Final four in nineteen
ninety five. Jim Jim Herrick is the head coach and
his top two assistants are Mark Gottfried and Lorenzo Romar,
and Levin's like the third guy.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
And so what.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Happened was they get to Seattle. On what I was told,
and Labs could deny this. All he once is that
he as they were preparing, especially for the championship game
against the defending champion Arkansas, Corlis Williamson, Scottie Thurman, that
great team, Corey back, Lavin was nowhere to be found.
So what happened was and this shows you timing right
(06:59):
right place, right time. So after they win the national championship,
Godfrey leaves to take the head coaching job at Murray State,
Romar moves up to one assistant.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Lab Is now the number two.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
And then after the next year, when they got eliminated
by Princeton coach Herrick dear friend got into little squabble
with the athletic director, they forced him out. Romar had
already accepted the job at Pepperdine. They frantically call Romar
say forget Pepperdine. You're you're you're our guy, and he goes, I.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
Won't do that. I won't do that. I have committed
to Pepperdine.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
They're looking around like, holy crap, does that mean we're
going to give it to Steve Lavitt. It's going to
be our head coach. Matal lab got the job at UCLA.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Yeah, you go.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Something else about the tournament too that I like, It's
not it's not really the unveiling of the brackets. I'm
a guy who like tonight I would DVR all the
selection Sundays on all the networks, and tonight I will
stay up relentlessly just watching all the analysts talk about
the breakdown of the brackets. We all know about the
five to twelve. We all know if sixteen is beating
(08:03):
a one, watch fifteen's in the tournament, guys. Eight nine
is a toss up to fifteen. Like there, it's starting
to go through. I have these notes that I go by, Uh,
you know, the five twelve, Like two twelves be to
five every year, two twelves to five every year every year.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
Yeah, so he picked two twelves.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
Peace, it didn't happen last year, right, Well, it's not
every year, it's more I think, you like the reason
I imagine that is because immediately when I'm doing my brackets,
I go first to those twelve.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
Look at a twelve five mints.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
I always like, all right, so I know at least
one of these is going to be the upset, which
other maybe.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
In the ones, I advance all four ones the first round.
At least I advance all four ones. We've had now
to sixteens exactly.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
Purdue, uh, Padua Virginia are the two teams that got
meat about sixteen. So that's what I like. I like
breaking down and then over the next late two to
three dayscause the term is not till Thursday at nine am,
nine oh five or nine oh three Pacific time for
us noon for you guys all back east, back home
in the DMV one from.
Speaker 4 (08:59):
But I that's for it to me.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
Watching the brackets unveil, it's almost like a ooh ooh,
you're weight like a a tar hill, right, So I'm
looking you know, delaying violation took me off the other night.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
But we shut down in a second. Here what he's
trying to what was he doing?
Speaker 3 (09:17):
Trying to fake? And that's stupid. It's on him for
on him because he's trying to distract your teammates. Just
missed the free throw. Now he needs to make it
to tie it. And then he put his foot in
the lane and pulled it out. Give me thirty seconds
to break this down. Man, I'm doing this about basketball
right now. The I love, I love sports, I love
the product of basketball. I'm not trying to bang on basketball.
But because of the top, it's always gonna start the top,
(09:39):
because we have lost sense of talking about the true
game of basketball on the NBA level. It is now
filtering down to where kids won't even focus on just
the fundamentals. It's a stupid thing to do to try
to fake. I know you might see it in the NBA,
but the reps aren't gonna call traveler walk in the
NBA double, so then they're not gonna call that. You
(10:02):
see a guy in the NBA like put his foot
in and take it out when a guy's going to release,
and normally the rest let it go. But in college
they're more strict, they're more leaning.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Towards what way all traveling all the time, traveling.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
All the time.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
They call palming all the time. They call it legal
screen and college basketball all the time. And I'm not
gonna make a.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
Conspiracy theory about it, But no Cooper flag.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Carolina can't win that game, guy, Like real talk, Carolina
can't win that game with no Cooper flag. They need
Cooper flag. Do at least maybe test the agle for
the a CC Championship. I get all of that, but
it's a stupid thing to do. And it's a young
kid thinking, oh, let me do what I've seen.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
No, do what you've been coached to. Do as parents say.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
What a parent set of kids, Do as I say,
not as I do, do as I say, not as
I do, so that I will be waiting to see
I think they should still get in the fact that
Hubert Davis did load that competition up front all Brent
Michigan State, they played Alibei go look at that non
conference schedule, and he did it on purpose, said, I
(11:03):
did it so it could prepare us for the long
run and have us better.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
I know they only won one.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
Of those big quad quad ten call outs before whatever
they call it wins. But I said this about the
college football playoff, and I'm a standing on this about
the NCAA tournament.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
When you're getting down to nine, ten, eleven, twelve seed.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
Miss me, miss me with the good Field story, give
me the brands, miss me, miss me with the good
Field story. Now, if you won your conference in your
low seat, you know, like a low conference.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
You okay, you will get an automatic bit.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
But you're normally a thirteen fourteen, thirteen, fifteen, sixteen, you're
one of those seeds. But if you're looking at Carolina
and the second team in the A ten, come on, man,
give me the brand. Stop playing with me, give me
the brand, give me the money.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
All right.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
VJ.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
On the other side, I want to get into expanding
the tournament. I am not an expander, but I was
listening to our dear friend Bernie frattle last night's fight, alright,
and Bernie pulled out.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
Guy had late night.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
TV last night, so I'm hearing Bernie right, and he
pulled out because he's not a big expansion guy either. No,
but but he was reading off somebody's proposal for an
expansion that he thought sounded good.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
And dare I say so? Did I?
Speaker 2 (12:15):
I'll break it down for you a little more, not
a lot more, but a little more. Tournament that actually
makes sense. We'll break it down. This is Fox Sports Sunday.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
All right.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
So again, five conference finals today. One in the books,
Yale defeated at Cornell ninety to eighty four. So Yale,
top team in the IVY League, advances to another NCAA tournament.
Florida leading Tennessee forty five thirty three second half action
underway there halftime VCU with a thirty six twenty eight
lead over George Mason.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
Still to come the AAC.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Championship UAB and Memphis, and then the Big Ten Championship
between Wisconsin and Michigan. So I was listening to our
buddy Bernie Frattle last night. Bernie's old school like me,
and he you know, he's he's not a big advocate
of big money bags.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
Burrs is what I call him.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
Yeah, Well, you know, Bernie, Bernie's a hustle, a big
time yet hanging out in Vegas and everything else. So Bud,
he made a point.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
He was reading from somebody else that had a proposal,
and he goes, this actually.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Makes sense, So let's see what you think about this all.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
Right, So the sixty four school bracket that's been going
for forty years. Nineteen eighty five, the year Villanova had
the shocker against GEORGETOWNS, it was the first year they
had gone to a full sixty four. You know, they
had maybe one playing game. Now they have four, all right,
So how many new schools get to bring in? So
anyway he's reading off. Somebody had a proposal to add
(14:28):
eight schools. So instead of sixty eight schools, you have
seventy six schools. Here's the format, So fifty two teams
get essentially a first round by instead of having two
playoff playing games on Tuesday and Wednesday, you have six
each day. So you have twenty four schools, little down
(14:50):
to twelve. The twelve joined the fifty two, and now
you got the final sixty four. So you're at But
here's here was the reasoning for this. Years ago, sixty
four schools represented twenty three percent of the Division one schools.
But Division one has expanded since then, so now only
(15:11):
eighteen percent.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Actually get in.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
If you add eight schools, it goes back to twenty
three percent. And the fact is is that we've had,
like you said, back in those days, we never saw
sixteen b to one.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
Now it's happened twice.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
What do we have Saint Peter's get to what the
Elite eight as a fifteen seed, some crazy thing there
or Sweet sixteen.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
We've had, we had Loyola Chicago.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
We've had more minor conference teams get to the final four.
Just two years ago, Florida Atlantic and San Diego State
both made it to the Final four. So there's more
of a legitimacy now for some of these schools in
these lower divisions that can make a deeper run in
the tournament. So adding eight schools isn't out of question
in my book. I don't know how you feel about it.
(15:58):
Here's what I don't want right now. The SEC is
projected to get thirteen schools in this tournament.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
Forty two schools in the conference. I mean, come on,
thirteen schools.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Look, I want to see schools that you know, maybe
dominated their conference during the regular season. This happens all
the time VJ and then they get upset in the
conference tournament and they stay home. It's like, you know,
you have one bad day at the office. You dominate
the regular season, you make a run, all of a sudden,
you get upset in the conference tournament and they only
take one represented. I would like to see some of
(16:33):
those schools get an opportunity to still show their face,
because we have seen in recent years more and more
schools from these lesser conferences doing damage in the nca
basketball tournament.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
No, I don't like it. No, I don't know. I
don't why what are we doing? Stop? Listen. I don't
care how far you get. I don't Did you win it? No? Sport.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
I believe in the sports guys and always believed in
the sports gods, and.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
That's why I think things work out well for me.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
In sports, because I believe in the sports gods and
they always make sure the right team wins. Man Like,
it was cool when Chicago Loyola was there and Sister
Mary whatever name was.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
That's cool until it's not it's cool.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Do you feel the same way about George Mason or No.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
Six noeor but I have Listen, I have an unhealthy
attachment to George Mason because I grew up literally twenty
minutes from the campus. The very first Harlem Globe Trotter
game I ever saw in my life was at George
Mason against the Washington Generals. My homeboy on my door
set played was there on that team that got to
(17:41):
the final four for George Mason, Like I'm connected to
the school, so of course it's fun. But that's that's
an anomaly. It's not gonna happen all the time. We
have to stop acting like we like the little guys.
The same thing with the college football playoff. Stop acting
like you like the little guy.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
If you like the little guy, you would go to
the steak house and get the salmon. But you don't.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
This is coming from a North Carolina guy.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Hills all right, Big Docus more final force than any
other shoe, more than.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
Well then what I mean? Do you want a smaller tournament? No,
I want to go back to like when John Wooden
won his last tournament.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
It's fine where it is now.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
We don't need to continue to add schools that have
zero shot at winnie.
Speaker 4 (18:25):
Let me let me give you this announce it's a.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Thrill of these schools when they get it, punch their
ticket to meet dance.
Speaker 4 (18:30):
Let me give it. Let me give a veteran cold. Yes, no,
I'm not cold.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
It's just that don't winning.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
Some of them just want to get to the dance.
Stop acting like mediocre and small as good.
Speaker 4 (18:43):
It's not.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
If that was the case, guys, listen, and like I said,
if that was the case, you'd go to Mashtrows and
you go to Bowl and Beverly Hills on Sunset Boulevard
and you'd order the Chilean Sea Bass.
Speaker 4 (18:53):
But you don't.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
You get the tomahawk, because that's what you're there for.
You're there for the big dog. You're there for the
big piece of meat. You're there for what we don't
you don't want to see. We look at the NBA
right now, nobody wants to see the two best teams
in the finals, the two best teams in the NBA
right now, we are dready that they make it to
the final.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
We don't want to see Okac Cleveland when you want
to see Celtics Lakers.
Speaker 4 (19:13):
Thank you. That's the perfect example. Right now. We want
to see the point.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
We want to see Duke against either Tennessee or alot,
but we want to see the two top teams make
it to the National Chase game.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
All right, So let's go back USC Texas and the
rose Ball.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
So I'm at that game.
Speaker 4 (19:29):
Right and my game, Okay, but the Vision game.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Yeah, the bench young.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
So in fact, I was actually had come down to
the field on Texas's last strife. I was standing on
the Texas sideline. There was Matthew Coney. But I'm thinking
myself years later because that was the BCS Championship.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
Gats remember that year, Auburn had.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
An undefeated team, and so they and they got they
got left out on the mix.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
And kind of like Williams, Ronnie Brown and those guys,
correct if I remember right at running back, Okay.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Go ahead, and so but the point is, if you
had a playoff, there was a real possibility that somebody
pulls an upset, right, and so you wouldn't have gotten
the dream matchup that you did get, one of the
greatest college football matchups and games of all time. So
that's why I'm asking you, because you seem to be
going in that direction. You say less is more. Exclude
(20:25):
all these minor schools, get them out of the way.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
Let's get the top.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Schools in the scc ACC Big Ten, and the heck.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
With the rest of them.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
I'm looking through our update window at Moncie Bolanos, who
everybody in Fox Sports Radio notes she's wearing an LA
Dodger hat.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
Yes, you can't.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
Tell me that Dodgers Yankees was not a dream last year?
Speaker 4 (20:44):
Guys, it was a dream. Now, yeah, did the Marlins.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
Did it better than Arizona Texas here before?
Speaker 4 (20:50):
Yes, it wasn't. I'm a Ranger fan.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
I'm looking at that Ranger SI's eighty six.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
I'm a Texas Ranger fan.
Speaker 7 (20:56):
You come in in the Rangers, Rubisierra will Diamondbacks not Dodgers.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
D It wasn't.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
And do even have any other teams? No, because you
have to.
Speaker 4 (21:05):
That's just the way it is. In some years.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
People love the underdogs.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
They don't.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
Don't.
Speaker 4 (21:10):
That's a false narrative.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
They in the tournament, they do. That's why you're going
at your brother.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
I'm telling you complete the sentence. We like them early, but.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
Once we get to the elite eight, well, give me Izo, give.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
Me coach k give me. How did you feel about Carol?
Speaker 2 (21:24):
How did you feel about How did you feel about
Butler getting back to back national championship game?
Speaker 4 (21:29):
I can't remember nothing from those games.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
How about Gordon Hayward?
Speaker 2 (21:34):
Do you know how close that came to being literally
the greatest shot in basketball history? I mean it was
that close. I had a friend I wasn't at that game.
I had a friend that literally was seen on the
floor and he thought, oh my.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
God, he made it go. But what if it had
and I would that have been a bad thing for
college basketball? Would that have been a bad thing because.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
They know, because they would have taken down the evil
empire of do right? They would have not serious. It's
just like when Chris Jigs hit the shot against Carolina?
Did we care that it was Villanova or did we
care that Carolina got beat? Exactly? No one talks about
Jay Wright. He's a great coach. He recruited my nephew
Kendled to come to Villanova.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
Tell you Jay Rid's a hell of a coach. How
Villanova fell off the charts as soon as he?
Speaker 4 (22:17):
Who talks about him like you and not? Come on,
we're Sports Fox.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
But in the general college basketball coach conversation of the
last twenty years, how often do you think Jay Wright's
name is brought up? And he's got two national championships.
That's the point I'm making right there. Yeah, they won them,
but do we really care? Remember that Villanova won too?
Speaker 8 (22:35):
Well?
Speaker 1 (22:35):
Do you care about Yukon.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
Yukon is not a Cci're not exactly, but that's the
thing that Big e C.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
You and I grew up with that old Big East's.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
Big East in those days. So the conference ain't really
the same no more. Yeah, but by creating the other night,
not only.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
Did he went back to back national championships. You realize
that's twelve straight wins, double digits.
Speaker 4 (22:58):
Not even u c LA did I understand that?
Speaker 3 (23:00):
But college basketball, this is gonna sound real haters and
air torres.
Speaker 4 (23:04):
If you're listening, turn up the value right now.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
Talk to Aaron yesterday. We're talking.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
Turn up the value right now. If you look at
college basketball right now, it's not the same. Wow, it's
not the same.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
Things are coming from overseas. They're not even taking them
out of college.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
Slow down, let's find out what it's trending right now.
I'm sure Monty has an alternative viewpoint on this. Can
you believe VJ here insisting that college basketball.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
Is just not you know, it's not that anymore. It's
not it's not I'm not.
Speaker 7 (23:32):
Manchi is not a huge saying. I know, I know,
but she loved that world Clippers. She loved that World
serious last year though of.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
Course you didn't.
Speaker 8 (23:41):
But yeah, it was a Dodgers, so it wouldn't matter
who it was.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
But wasn't it not better that if you beat the
evil Empire, the other great, great brand of baseball empire.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
Well, yeah they are, they still are.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
They're not well now without Garrett Cole this year, they're
going to be a rough here for the Yankees.
Speaker 9 (23:58):
I think the idea of the Yankees and Dodgers was
was nice in theory.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
But well, beating them as a lifelong Dodger family myself,
because I didn't.
Speaker 8 (24:09):
Think the Yankees were ever gonna win. I'm surprised they
got there.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
If it was the Royal.
Speaker 9 (24:14):
To me, the best series the Dodgers played was beating
the Padres.
Speaker 8 (24:18):
That was our world series.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
Yeah you see that. Now here's the thing.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Now, think about think about what she's saying for a
second here, because when you talk about rivalries, it was
more in the moment between the Podreys and the Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (24:30):
Yankees Dodgers goes back to you know, Brooklyn story, But
that that doesn't hold weight with the current fact, Like, yeah,
so the Dodgers and they kept losing when they were
in Brooklyn. Why do I care about that, but beating
the Podreys.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
Oh yeah, you actually thought the Padres had to shot
the beach all last year.
Speaker 8 (24:47):
They were the murder team. They should have won.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
They had Game four at home, and the Dodgers had
that day they got aways.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
Well, I can't. I can't say that, you you know,
and I have to.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Take your word.
Speaker 3 (24:59):
I haven't thought I had the Dodgers going to the
World saying I thought no one in the NL was
beating the Dodgers.
Speaker 4 (25:04):
They were clearly the best team in the NL.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
Twenty different pitching starters, and.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
They were still and they were still the best NL team.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
Oh, they were the best team the year before. Oh yes,
swept by Arizona the year before that. One man, I
picked them.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
To get to the World Series that year because they
were the best team in the end. They'd been the
best team in the NL in the regular season for
the last three years.
Speaker 9 (25:21):
Absolutely, And in baseball, the best team doesn't necessarily go.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
Okay, where the Raiders the best team in the American
in baseball two years ago?
Speaker 3 (25:28):
After after July fourth, after July fourth, Yeah, because I
sat here and said they were. They were though they
were though if you looked at it, they were after
July fourth that year that they wanted they were the
best team in the AL. But anyway, I don't want
to sorry to know.
Speaker 8 (25:41):
You're fine. You're fine.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
I'm just you know what, I'm gonna like this. This
is set for the three of us because this is
twoll one and I walk this. Bring this to me, man.
I love you guys.
Speaker 9 (25:49):
All, I'm sorry, Go ahead, moms, All right, We're gonna
check in on men's college shoes right now. The SEC
Final still thirteen minutes left in this one, but number
four Florida he's on top of number eight Tennessee fifty
two to forty again, thirteen minutes to go. At the
Atlantic ten Final, early in the second half VCU with
the thirty nine to thirty.
Speaker 8 (26:06):
Four lead over George Mason.
Speaker 9 (26:08):
Yale has punched their ticket to the Dance after outscoring
Cornell nineteen to eighty four in the Ivy League Final.
In the NBA, the Cavaliers are trying to win seventeen
in a row, and right now they have the lead
against the.
Speaker 8 (26:19):
Magic sixty five to fifty five early in the third quarter.
Halfway through the third it's the Mavericks who.
Speaker 9 (26:23):
Are losing at home to the seventy six ers eighty
two to seventy nine. Lakers taking on the Suns tonight.
They will have Luka Doncic. He did miss Friday's game
at Denver due to a right ankle injury, but he's
available today. As for Lebron James, he started encore on
court workouts, so he's gonna miss at least another week
with that groin injury. According to SPN. In golf, the
(26:45):
final round of the Players Championship has been suspended due
to lightning in the area, but Rory McElroy is in
the lead at twelve hunder par overall, one shot ahead,
one shot ahead of JJ spawn. Today McElroy is four
under through eleven holes.
Speaker 7 (26:58):
Back to you, guys, ali on See will be prepared
because obviously VJ is a little disoriented, uh, in terms
of where I mean.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
The way VJ is describing it. He says, here's here's
what we should do college basketball season, regular season conference tournaments,
and so let's just pick a final.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
Four and go right to it. We don't we don't
need all that preliminary stuff. We don't need it.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
Just pick the four best goals and put them in
the final.
Speaker 9 (27:28):
You're giving off because but I don't disagree with you
that the Cinderella story.
Speaker 8 (27:32):
You don't want it at the end, I agree with you.
But then if.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
Gordon Hayward's shot goes in against Duke and Butler beats
Duke for the national championship, that shot literally lives forep.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
But Steve, I don't do if, guys, I don't do
if the shot didn't go in, and it's a lot
of champish and it wouldn't have been about Butler winning.
Just like you mentioned about Villanova and eighty five, it's
not still about Villanova winning. It's about who they beat.
That powerful fame Georgetown team. For some of you young
buckle rules, you know, whipp a snap is out and
then no, No, that Georgetown eighty five team, that's the
(28:04):
team if you remember that lost to Jordan in Caroline.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
By the way, they never would have been back. There
was no shot clank, there was no three points I
overheld the ball. They only took ten shots in the
second half. They made nine nine out of ten in
the second half. That's how they got that.
Speaker 1 (28:17):
They did. They couldn't have done it.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
The same thing when NC State beat Houston, there was
no shot clock in a three a falfano. They just
held the ball and you were able to run down
the clock. No three point shots anything.
Speaker 4 (28:28):
Yeah, all right, yeah, just give me the brands man
at the end, all right.
Speaker 2 (28:31):
Fox Sports Sunday, Hartman and Husky with you. By the way,
we are live from the tire rack dot com studios.

I finished fourth.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
In the Bracket Challenge.
Speaker 9 (29:26):
Here.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
Amongst the on air people, there were a lot of brackets.
How'd you do last year?
Speaker 3 (29:29):
And I didn't do it last year because I got
hosed in the first year, just like the Just like that,
I got host I'll explain it to you. Just like
the fantasy football league that buyer put together. I got
hosed in that too. In that league, Monty and nine,
I know Mancia remembers that we talked about it. She
was Lob City, her team was Lob State. Monty and
I were whooping at we were whooping ad, we were
kicking tail man. We both had, I believe, two weekly wins.
(29:51):
I had the highest ranked scoring team. I was number
one in the league. And one Sunday morning, for some reason,
it froze up and I was not allowed to pull
three guys out, and I was I'm like, oh not
not Shenani gives I called Segas. But I did do
the bracket challenge two years ago and I finished third, So.
Speaker 1 (30:07):
Please you gotta do down. We go ahead ahead.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
I wasn't gonna do it this year, but if you're
challenging me, I guess I got to now. I wasn't
gonna do.
Speaker 1 (30:13):
It this I'm laying it down because I'm feeling pretty confident.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
Oh okay, and you a great run, you know, off
of the topic that we're talking right now to.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
And by the way, guys just got me again in
our football picks this year, so she knows that.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
You know, if you lose to me.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
It's like the ultimate embarrassment, like like if you lose
to me in a bracket challenge, VJ.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
This is the lowest career against Steve Hartman.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
I followed you long enough. I listened to the radio
show driving into you for the last half.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
What I always love to say is the more you know,
the less you know. That's my excuse for why my
pics are still.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
Forever of you. Guys.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
Do I'm driving in one day, it doesn't matter. It's
still sports knowledge. You're nailing every question, and in the car,
I'm like, Man, I would love to try to come
up with a question that he couldn't answer. It's like
stump the swab in here. But if you want me
in the back bracket challenge, man to hands or to hand, Hell.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
I'll do it.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
We're gonna do a bracket challenge most definitely.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
All right, all right, so yeah, we're talking about either
expanding the tournament keeping it as it is, so you're
good with sixty eight.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
You just want to keep it where it is, right, He.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
Could have stayed to sixty four. Man eight, I get well,
don't you like the first of all?
Speaker 2 (31:18):
We've had two again one of your schools VCU am
I UCLA Bruins going from first four to final four.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
That's amazing.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
Amazon did the same thing. But it happens once like
every ten.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
That's the beauty of it. That's what we call a
Cinderella story.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
And nobody that's listening can name one player from that
VCU team.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
They know the coach Shaka smart News had how many
jobs since then?
Speaker 3 (31:44):
Exactly? He got the Texas job and that flopped. He
got the next job in that bar. And the only
reason why he was out there because he was a
very Remember he used to run out there and slid
on the floor with his guy.
Speaker 4 (31:53):
He made himself the show.
Speaker 3 (31:54):
I get it, get a better job, get a bigger paycheck,
and got married, had kids, able to take care of
his family.
Speaker 1 (32:00):
I get it.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
But no one can name anybody from.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
The George Basins well, I mean Colday, from that VCU team.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
Look, ninety nine point nine percent of the people that
will be filling out a bracket for this year's tournament.
Cannot name a single player in this tournament, not a
single player. They may know Cooper class.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
Say, everybody knows Cooper. That's nobody else. Yes, but unless
you're following a school, they wouldn't. They wouldn't know anybody.
It doesn't you know what they know. They know coaches,
They know coaches. It's always been about the coaches.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
Right now, all right, on the other side, I want
to get into one of the coaches. It's going to
be a big factor in this tournament. In fact, a
couple of coaches. They're going to be a factor in
this tournament. And whether or not they should even be
involved anymore in the NCAA tournament.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
We'll explain. This is Fox Sports Sunday.
Speaker 4 (32:56):
Do're listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (32:59):
Steve har There been VJ Husky Fox Sports Sunday Live
from the ti rack dot Com studios coming up in
the next hour. If you were listening last Sunday, VJ
basically ran down all the quarterbacks okay, around the NFL,
(33:20):
who's gonna go where?
Speaker 1 (33:21):
He has an update on that.
Speaker 2 (33:23):
I have some updates as well, because we still have
some big names out there that still are looking for
a home. We'll update you on everything NFL coming up
in the next hour. This hour, we've been talking a
lot of March madness. And you know how about Rick Patino.
He goes to Saint John's they won their first Big
East championship in twenty five years.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
Is they're going to be.
Speaker 2 (33:43):
Probably a two seed in this tournament and they are
going to make some serious noise. And then you have
Kelvin Sampson in Houston, they went a conference championship.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
They're going to be a one seed.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
The reason I mentioned a couple of these names is
that these guys were actually a spelled from college basketball.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
They got what we call.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
The don't show up three years, five years you're out pip.
I mean Kelvin Sampson and Indiana when he was there
cheating his brains out, he was he was he was
given a five year no shots.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
That's and so.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
But they serve their time and now they're back and
proving again. As we were talking about before the break,
college basketball is about coaches and there's a reason why
Tom Izzo is always in the mix because his own
knows how to navigate the tournament he's got a real
shot this year a Michigan state and you get the
(34:47):
loss of Wisconsin.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
I mean Wisconsin, that's a school.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
Good luck to Michigan today because Wisconsin can fill it up.
But there are when you think about the history of
the NCAA tournament. You mentioned Jay Wright, a guy that
you had to navigate the tournament, four final fours of
Villanova two championships. You think about the great Roy Williams
obviously coach. You think about all these different coaches that
(35:12):
were so good for so long because they knew how
to navigate the NCAA basketball tournament. But do you think
coaches like Patina, like Sampson, guys that have been given
the harshest penalty blatant cheating now this day and age.
Now with nil you're looking back like what was the
commotion about? But if you serve penalties like that, should
(35:35):
you be let back in the door?
Speaker 4 (35:37):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (35:38):
Absolutely, I'm a big guy. Second, third, and fourth chances.
Who who are we right?
Speaker 4 (35:43):
Who are we to judge?
Speaker 3 (35:44):
Who are we if listen, if the punishment your dad?
I love just using pair it because that's the only
way you can get people to be real. So if
you told your son. You have a very great young
man son. Okay, when he was twelve messed up in school.
Your punishment's a month, bad a month. But afterwards you
can iron back your Nintendo, you can iron back your
(36:05):
Sega Genasi, you can iron back going to the playground.
You can earn going to the party for that little
que eleven year old girl that you like.
Speaker 4 (36:11):
And then if somebody comes in and goes, WHOA hold on,
hold on?
Speaker 3 (36:14):
He was screwing up his exactly, he was screwing up
in school, and I gave him his punishment. He served
and completed his punishment, So now he can now now
he has an opportunity to show whether he learned or
he didn't learn. You're allowed to have second chances and
certain Now there's certain aspects of life. I won't say
on there, because you don't get no second chances that
(36:34):
you do something in some of these things I'm thinking
about in my brain.
Speaker 4 (36:36):
You gotta go.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
Away forever you or not. You can't walk among the
regular humanoids of the world.
Speaker 9 (36:41):
No.
Speaker 3 (36:41):
But in sports, if someone gets caught cheat, it's just
like the Hall of Fame stuff. All of a sudden,
people he didn't like to you're not gonna put.
Speaker 1 (36:50):
Him in you brought up in my head.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
All I'm thinking is, okay, I'm with you one hundred
percent on this VJ. It's true except for the Baseball
writers and the penalties against the PD user. Serious, you
know even that got well, we know that multimo guys
in the Baseball Hall of Fame that used pds, there's
no question they were using peds.
Speaker 1 (37:13):
All I know is Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens were
never penalized.
Speaker 3 (37:16):
They didn't fail any failed any tests, never failed.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
Test, and when they allegedly were using PDS, they weren't
even banned by Baseball the substance. So it's one of those.
So I'm with you, Okay, I'm staying with you on this.
Speaker 4 (37:31):
Look.
Speaker 1 (37:31):
I love the fact from a coaches stand.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
You know what's interesting about these different halls of fame
in sports, Like in baseball there's maybe twenty managers in
the Hall of Fame Pro Football Hall of Fames about
twenty coaches. There are as many coaches in the Basketball
Hall of Famous Players, right, right, I mean right, I'll
never get the year that Phil Jackson, roy wayns member.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
It's all inclusive. It's not just basketball Hall of Amba.
But the year that.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
Phil Jackson Roy Walliams made it, there were no players
in the Hall of Fame class and there are five coaches.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
Can you imagine if that happened in the Pro football
Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (38:06):
Yeah, we have an all coach class this year, no players,
or in baseball all managers, no players. They actually did
that one year in basketball, not that long ago, Phil Jackson,
Rohy Wallis. I think there was a WNBA coach. It
was like an international coach that wasn't a single player.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
So I mean, I mean, what is that? I mean,
is it the one sport more so than other sports
where the coach really commands that level of credit for
team success over the player.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
Well, in college basketball, yes, because kids are only there
three or four years, right, coaches are there for fifteen
to twenty Behind coach k that's forty five. Yeah, I'm
just I'm putting that fit to me to get some
love for me. It's got to be fifteen to twenty
at one school. You don't get to jump around no, no,
I need you, I need Nolan. We still see that, yeah, exactly,
(38:58):
But be Bay Times, the Roy Williams, I.
Speaker 1 (39:01):
Don't think people would have is the last of that.
Speaker 3 (39:03):
That's what I was. That's where I'm going. That's where
I'm going. I think it's almost like my analogy with
the NBA. When Duncan, Garnet, Dirk, and Kobe all left,
that was that error gone. Lebron's a different era waiting them.
That's a different era. That air is not gone, Beheim
Roy coach k Jay Wright. When those guys all walked away,
I said, wow, this is mean. Look whoever replaced with
(39:26):
thirty something year old John Shire? Forty something year old?
But the first Tarhelle Jersey I ever owned in my
life was a Hubert Davis Jersey. And now he's the
coach there like sweet, and guess what, even though Shire
is having a good year, he's.
Speaker 4 (39:39):
Not gonna duplicate coach k Let's let's let's he's not
gonna do.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
Play but he But the problem is, and this is
every UCLA coach out the guys that came after Wooden, Yeah,
none of them were compared to the guy before them.
Speaker 1 (39:51):
They all are compared.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
To win Wooden. Years doesn't matter, doesn't matter because when
you win that much fifty years ago compared to who
Doc Yeah, Kasey Jones no, they're compared to Big Red.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
All right.
Speaker 2 (40:06):
On the other side, we are going to get to
the NFL. What's gonna happen to Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson,
the rest of these quarterbacks will break it down.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
This is Fox Sports.
Speaker 2 (40:14):
Sunday, all right, rolling along here on this selection Sunday,
Fox Sports Sunday. We're broadcasting live from the ti rack
dot Com studios. Tyrack dot com. We're gonna help get
you there and our match selection fast reshipping, free road
ass of protection over ten thousand recommended installers, tire rack
dot com the way tire buying should be. All right,
We're about to tip off right now, the AAC Championship
(40:37):
game between UAB and Memphis. Already in the books earlier today,
Yale over Cornell. We heard Monsei with the updates. Tennessee
is trying to come back. By the way points spread
on this was five and a half. Florida currently leading
Tennessee seventy to sixty four. Her crack earlier today saying
(40:57):
take Tennessee in the points and Tennessee is making a comeback. Meanwhile,
VCU and George Mason close game here as well. VJ
fifty three forty eight VCU over George Mason six and
a half minutes to go.
Speaker 4 (41:10):
Yeah, Man, Battle of Va.
Speaker 3 (41:11):
There's a lot of talent at these schools, man, because
a lot of those kids get recruited out of northern
North Carolina area. Richmond is also was flooded with talent
in the DMV area because if you're going in the
DMV area, you're getting kids from Gonzaga, Da Matha, the WCAC,
which in my opinion is the second biggest sports high
school conference other than the Trinity League out here, which
Bo's Corona Orange, Jcierra Bosco and Modern Day and we
(41:36):
know Modern Days the Kriminal Lakrim of high school football
in this nation, along with Bisham, Gorman and IMG Academy
schools of that nature. So you get some good talent here.
Because everybody can't go to Duke, everybody can't go to Carolina,
everybody can't go to the top schools. Some schools got
to say, hey, we would love to have you, but
we don't have room for you. And some of these
other smaller schools they're like, no, hey, come here, you'll
(41:57):
start right away.
Speaker 4 (41:58):
We got Wayne.
Speaker 3 (41:59):
Wea ain't got three million, I but I got seven
fifty K and I own that's a lot more to
what you got right now.
Speaker 4 (42:03):
And let's let's move on from there.
Speaker 3 (42:04):
And that's that's where you're seeing some of these smaller
schools having having great talent.
Speaker 2 (42:08):
But see, this is what I love about the history
of college basketball. How one player Larry Bird at Indiana State,
David Robinson at Navy. I mean, you go down the
list of you know, one great player, go way back
in time. Artist Gilmore got Jacksonville to the NC Championship game.
Speaker 3 (42:29):
How about Bill Russell, Marcus Cambiat you mass you mess
with that team?
Speaker 4 (42:34):
Also Agar Padilla, Yeah, well, and the year before they.
Speaker 1 (42:37):
Had Louaring that school.
Speaker 4 (42:39):
Yeah yeah, yeah. Remember who do you almost get? Who's
the temple call? I always forget his name, the temple coach.
He was kind of fight with it the prescotference.
Speaker 1 (42:46):
You know that, you don't you don't want to talk
about your temple guy.
Speaker 4 (42:50):
Yeah, it's on the temple of my tongue.
Speaker 3 (42:51):
Anyway, I'll give you his name, John John Johnny Edny.
Speaker 4 (42:55):
I beat you, John.
Speaker 1 (42:56):
Jenny John Jay You by the way, never got to
a final four. He got five Elite eights.
Speaker 2 (43:00):
Yeah, there's no worse loss in college basketball than losing
the Elite eight because you have already invested three wins.
Speaker 1 (43:07):
You are knee deep, and you are one win. Because
you get to the final four.
Speaker 2 (43:12):
You've arrived, right, You forever are branded a final four coach.
Speaker 1 (43:16):
But losing the Elite eight is brutal.
Speaker 2 (43:19):
It's like finishing fourth at the Olympics and not getting
a medal. You get a medal if you go to
the final four. You don't get a medal by losing
in the Elite eight. That is the most brutal loss
because you're already two weeks invested into the tournament.
Speaker 1 (43:33):
You're one game away from the final four show.
Speaker 4 (43:38):
But if you lose the final four, your one game.
Speaker 3 (43:40):
Way, I got to do my twenty Still a final four,
still a final fourteen, I don't know, ze, yeah, but
final four or national championship game.
Speaker 4 (43:52):
Well, participant, I'm just saying, well.
Speaker 2 (43:56):
I mean, if you lose, if you lose, if you
get upset, Like let's take a couple of years ago,
San Diego State.
Speaker 1 (44:01):
Right, so they get the game winner against you know
them up Butler right there makes that shot.
Speaker 2 (44:08):
Okay, they get blown out by you cut, they got
all right, are they really upset?
Speaker 1 (44:14):
Now?
Speaker 2 (44:15):
The year before that, of course, you had Gonzaga with
the half court shot to beat UCLA in the semi Rials,
and they're undefeated. It's going to be there for and
then they get blown out by Baylor. Now that's painful.
That's painful. All right, Let's switch gears real quick.
Speaker 3 (44:30):
What about conference championship game, NFL AFC Championship Game.
Speaker 1 (44:36):
Super Bowl?
Speaker 2 (44:37):
No, no, no, no, it's the same thing with league
championship series, conference championship.
Speaker 1 (44:41):
Games E lead eight.
Speaker 2 (44:43):
When you are one step away from being in the show,
one for being in the World Series or the Super
Bowl or the Final four.
Speaker 1 (44:52):
Same thing.
Speaker 2 (44:52):
Okay, I mean, I'm just checking because if you're at
the show, you are going to get all the attention.
Speaker 6 (44:58):
You know.
Speaker 2 (44:58):
I've covered sixteen seventeen final fours. I love super Bowls.
I've been in many, many more Super Bowls than final fours.
But the atmosphere around a final four, if you're a
college basketball fan and you have a chance to just
hang out at a final four, do it, do.
Speaker 4 (45:13):
It, do it?
Speaker 1 (45:14):
It is spectacular, absolutely spectacular. All Right, we switched gears, right,
let's go.
Speaker 2 (45:19):
So a week ago we were sitting here, VJ. And
we are running down these quarterbacks. We talked about Sam Darnold.
The word was he was going to go to Seattle.
He went to Seattle. That wasn't a huge surprise. So
now all of a sudden we're talking about the Aaron
Rodgers situation. And by the way, yesterday we were talking
about the Aaron Rodgers situation, and I was assured that
(45:44):
by this time next week we will know where Aaron
Rodgers is going. This is not going to be some
drawn out process where he's sitting on a beach, you know,
meditating and making it clear to whoever. I haven't made
up my mind. He's going to make up his mind
this week. So here's here's what I'm hearing, and then
we'll get the vjes been on this one. Okay, all right,
So we have been told it really seemed like the
(46:07):
two most likely destinations were the Giants are Steelers, but
all of a sudden we got the Minnesota. But so
your guy JJ McCarthy is sitting there coming off an injury, untested.
Essentially he'll be a rookie next year. And this is
a fourteen and three football team this past year. So
I don't know a lot of people expected that when
(46:28):
Sam Donald took over at quarterback.
Speaker 1 (46:30):
But if you're.
Speaker 2 (46:32):
Kevin o'conne, you'll be like, I'm so good. He would
never say this, but I'm so good. I could pretty
much stick anybody a quarterback and win with this team
right now. But if he had Aaron Rodgers for a
year with that arsenal that Sam Donald was top five
in the league in both passing yards and passing touch
on Sam Donald. And remember this about Aaron Rodgers, And
(46:55):
I've been critical of Aaron Rodgers for the last several years.
He did start all seventeen for the Jets. He stayed
on the field twenty eight touchdowns, eleven picks. Not Aaron
Rodgers level, but still pretty good for a team that
was a complete you know what show?
Speaker 1 (47:10):
Yeah, okay jocks.
Speaker 2 (47:12):
So all of a sudden, you put him in with
one of the best play calling coaches in the league,
with insane talent around him, I wouldn't say that would
be the worst move by the Minnesota Vikings. If Aaron
Rodgers is up to the idea of essentially being a
one year guy, and then they hand the ball to J. J.
Speaker 1 (47:28):
McCarthy your thoughts.
Speaker 3 (47:29):
No dice, no dice, no bueno, no Breno, Pappazi. Listen,
let me tell you why man you because he doesn't.
You're not just bringing in the game of Aaron Rodgers
the talent. You're bringing in the bleep show ers, and
you do not want that. You have a young receiver
best in the league. You have a young quarterback coming
off a national championship, off of injury, off of injured year.
(47:51):
From every accounts and everything, I got a guy in Minnesota.
From everything, I'm here throwing well, like stayed at the
facility pretty much all year long. I doesn't have a
big mansion to go home to and all that. Yet
really put it to his rehab, really put in the film.
Study knows, the playbook knows, the players and the team
loves him. The guys love him. He was gonna be
the start of last year. He was gonna beat out
Sam Darnold and got hurt. So you have all these
(48:13):
other young pieces around this defense. Flores like you mentioned
Kevin O the coach, Like you know, you don't want
to bring in a show like that.
Speaker 4 (48:22):
We just saw what it was. We've seen this like.
Speaker 3 (48:26):
I've seen that, I've seen Goodfellas like a thousand times.
Guess what dog Harry still snitches on Paul. He still
tells the ending doesn't change. Sammy Govano still points out
John Gotti in court the ending that I've seen this
before and you can watch it over and over and
over again.
Speaker 4 (48:45):
And Dark Vader still tells says to them, I am
your fault. It's the lines not going to change. So people,
do you believe?
Speaker 2 (48:53):
Do you believe if Aaron Rodgers was the quarterback of
the Minnesota Vikings in twenty twenty five that they could win.
Speaker 1 (49:01):
A Super Bowl?
Speaker 6 (49:01):
No?
Speaker 4 (49:02):
Absolutely?
Speaker 1 (49:03):
How do you say that?
Speaker 4 (49:04):
Because the proof is in the putting.
Speaker 1 (49:06):
I put in the putt.
Speaker 4 (49:07):
But let me just let me explain. I put the
film on.
Speaker 3 (49:10):
Just because you have all these weapons around you doesn't
mean the year's gonna duplicate himself. Injuries happen, misfortunes happened,
Things happen in every game.
Speaker 4 (49:17):
No, NFL, I'm not talking about him. I'm not talking
about him. Justin Jefferson has been hurt the last game.
Speaker 1 (49:21):
That's true. If any team injuries can happen, So.
Speaker 4 (49:24):
Then I'm not gonna just say, oh well, if you're
plugging Aaron Rodgers. They can win this.
Speaker 2 (49:27):
You believe if healthy Aaron Rodgers, that have the same
level of success with that Vikings team that Sam Darnold
had this past year.
Speaker 3 (49:34):
No, because you just can't duplicate that something. It's good,
it's Aaron Rodgers. Something's gonna go wrong.
Speaker 4 (49:39):
It's Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 3 (49:40):
And I've been a guy that used to defend him.
I call him discount double check. He's one of my
favorite players for like fifteen years.
Speaker 1 (49:46):
Okay, so he's the lost four conference championship games over.
Speaker 4 (49:49):
The last like three or four years.
Speaker 3 (49:50):
I kind of just got to look at go, Yeah, look, dude,
I've definded you on radio and TV, but you're just
You're not the same guy.
Speaker 4 (49:57):
You're not the same player. I don't just look at
the numbers. I put the tape. He was awful.
Speaker 3 (50:01):
Throws did never connect with Garrett Wilson. They never connected
And that started in the preseason and people say, oh no,
they never connected. Mentally, they never connect the camaraderie. Rise's
two guys.
Speaker 1 (50:11):
So he would be the same way with JJ I
think so, I think, so, oh why not?
Speaker 4 (50:16):
Too young?
Speaker 3 (50:19):
A guy like Jefferson could take your game to levels
that Donald. But Sam Donald was trying to prove himself.
It was a proven year for him. Aaron Rodgers was
walking in the door saying, hey, look at me. Wh whoa, whoa, whoa.
I know to hide behind everybody.
Speaker 2 (50:34):
By the way, I just once again watched Enigma the
I mean, if you watch that self serving whatever that was, I.
Speaker 3 (50:43):
Mean it was.
Speaker 1 (50:43):
I agree with you.
Speaker 4 (50:44):
You walk in your locker room.
Speaker 2 (50:46):
You just said that Sam Donald wanted to prove him stuff, Aaron,
Aaron Rodgers doesn't want to know himself. After five to
twelve he disaster. I guarante you don't think he still
wants to walk out a champion.
Speaker 3 (50:57):
No, walk out a champion and wanting to prove yourself.
Think you have to prove yourself for two different things.
When you and I come sit down at us at
this desk and do this radio show, anybody in the studio,
our great producer track, Guy.
Speaker 4 (51:08):
Monzi, We're not here to we we're here already. We
don't feel like we want to perform. We want to
do well.
Speaker 3 (51:13):
We want to feel like we're the best, one of
the best on the air right now doing this. But
I don't feel like I have to see it here
and prove myself. Aaron Rodgers don't think he gotta prove
himself to anybody.
Speaker 2 (51:24):
That guy is so arrogant cooking on. I'm not disagreeing
with any of that now. But the Vikings are a
team off a fourteen to three seasons. Do it and
you have a rookie quarterback who's played what half of
one preseason game?
Speaker 5 (51:37):
It is what it is.
Speaker 4 (51:38):
Man, if you feel like you can go with him,
you go with him. You don't know unless you.
Speaker 1 (51:42):
Know all right on the other side. Then if not
the Vikings, then who Steelers? VJ VJ. I got an
alternative for That's another team. We're definitely gonna get into.
What are their alternatives?
Speaker 6 (51:56):
Right?
Speaker 1 (51:58):
This is Fox Sports Day, Steve Harman and VJ. Husky.
Speaker 2 (52:03):

a half hours away from the brackets being released, and
to me, it's still that there's this excitement, you know,
who's on the line, each of the lines, you know,
reason I still I'm gonna miss Greg Gumble, You know,
I really when I think about Selection Sunday, you think
(53:06):
about Greg Gumbele all those years on Selections Sundays passing,
you know for us that have watched, you know, Selection
Sunday for years.
Speaker 1 (53:13):
Greg Greg was great, absolutely.
Speaker 4 (53:16):
The big guy man.
Speaker 3 (53:17):
Him and John Saunders, John Siders, Yeah, gone to supporters.
Speaker 4 (53:21):
Man every Sunday morning.
Speaker 1 (53:23):
Was by the way, speaking of gone too soon, John Feinstein, Yeah,
you know John. Here's a story about John.
Speaker 2 (53:29):
So John obviously he was a young guy and he
wrote Season on the Brink, which was an absolute game
changer book where he followed Indiana basketball for an entire year.
And so one of his next books came out, like
nineteen ninety called Hard Courts, where he followed the tennis
tour for a year. First time I met John Finstein
in person.
Speaker 1 (53:49):
He came in to promote the book.
Speaker 2 (53:51):
Forty four books that guy wrote, you know, and he
was these are in depth books. I mean, it was
unlike anything that I don't what they have done. I'm
going to follow a team. In fact, they've changed the
rules about college basketball after season on the Break says
we cannot allow one guy to have exclusive access to
locker rooms and all this behind the scenes. They had
never been done before, it.
Speaker 1 (54:10):
Never done since. But yeah, we've lost some giants in
this industry.
Speaker 4 (54:14):
All right.
Speaker 2 (54:15):
Speaking of giants, VJ. Husky is one that has got
some very real thoughts on this quarterback carousel still going
on around the National Football League. All right, So let's
conclude the Aaron Rodgers situation. You say it's not happening
with the Vikings. Forget the Vikings, They're out. I wouldn't
do it.
Speaker 4 (54:34):
I'm not saying it's not happening.
Speaker 2 (54:35):
I was stay away from well Adam Kaplan, yester er
Fox Sports Real Insider. All he said about it was
they're kicking the tiers, of course, But I agree with you.
You used the first round pick of McCarthy. He's your guy.
You know that you have a coach that can take
Kirk Cousins game to another level and then literally take
Sam Darnold off the scrap heap and make him into
(54:58):
a Pro Bowl quarterback.
Speaker 1 (54:59):
So why can't he that we.
Speaker 4 (55:00):
Get him one hundred million dollar contract?
Speaker 2 (55:02):
Okay, So I'm with you on that, all right. So
if not the Vikings, where do you call it right now?
Because I one thing Kaplan said, I asked him, are
we going to know the destination of.
Speaker 1 (55:14):
Both Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson this week? His answer
was yes. So when we are sitting.
Speaker 2 (55:22):
Here next week, we're talking whatever Aaron Rodgers, what team
will he play for?
Speaker 1 (55:29):
Or will he shocked the world and say I'm calling
it a career.
Speaker 3 (55:34):
I have a third option. Oh okay, I have a
third option. He's not with the Giants or the Steelers,
and he doesn't retire. He he just kind of sits
on the sideline because no one's calling. He's not going
to retire. It's not in his ego to do so.
And I think his eagle will be even more Bruce.
Now back to the prove it. Those two teams go
(55:57):
in a different direction. Now the prove it show. Now,
Oh okay, hey, you know what. I'll sit for a second.
I'll show you. That's what I think the proof it
can boil then. But I just think if you're Pittsburgh,
like I said, Russell Wilson, they dropped the ball on
the Justin Fields deal, that's what.
Speaker 4 (56:12):
And the Jets swooped in.
Speaker 3 (56:13):
Aaron Glenn and those guys swooped in and said, no, no, nobody,
come on over here, don't worry about up there.
Speaker 2 (56:19):
They didn't want you, right, they were over five hundred
and benched you. And worse than that, they wouldn't put
him back in. We wouldn't put you back in, fire
the coordinator and everything.
Speaker 1 (56:26):
Brother won, losing all those games down the stretch, they
still wouldn't come on.
Speaker 3 (56:31):
We got you down here, here's some respect down here
in New York. Come make you some endorsement money too,
down here in the Big Apple. That's my I think
my third option is I just don't see the Giants
that you have chadoor cam. They're sitting right there. They're
right there. Tennessee Cleveland. I don't think Tennessee takes a quarterback.
I think Travis Hunters did pick there, like get the
(56:53):
best player in the draft, you could do the quarterback.
They maybe maybe Levice can can band a. You can
macguy for a year with Levis and then try to
find something next year. But you can't pass up Travis Hunter.
Speaker 4 (57:03):
You just can't. And if you're Cleveland, I said this.
Speaker 3 (57:05):
Last week, I cut I'd cut and just great the
check that you owe to Deshaun Watson it's not working.
Speaker 4 (57:11):
I'd cut him.
Speaker 3 (57:12):
You've struct this, You've restructured this contract three times. I'd
cut them in then take someone at two and then
the Giants you need one start fresh. Do not bring
their Aaron Rodgers bleep show to your town. You just
saw what it does in your stadium. You just saw
it up close and personal. So I still say those
two guys going the top three picks, that leaves Pittsburgh
(57:33):
out there, left for Aaron and maybe even still Tennessee
as a free agenc sign and they may still take
a quarterback. Or take Travis on the number one. He
lives in Nashville. He lives in Nashville. That is a
viable team that he can go somewhere when you don't
have when you're looking around, you're looking for hell. Okay
with the Giants and the Steelers, man, I want to
play though, Well, there's there's there's Tennessee.
Speaker 1 (57:56):
All right, I'm gonna I'm gonna for a conversation about
the cam Wardship door Sanders situation. I'm going to defer
that to a little bit later in this hour. I
want to talk a little bit about what Atlanta did
with Kirk Cousins. So they hand him a check for
ten million dollars.
Speaker 2 (58:16):
They're actually on the hook for thirty seven million dollars,
whether he plays it down for them or not.
Speaker 1 (58:20):
That's all guarantee. Guarantee thirty seven million there, including a
ten million dollar check.
Speaker 2 (58:25):
Yes, But there is a theory about why Atlanta did
this because there weren't a lot of suitors obviously for
a broken down but Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 1 (58:33):
But if the Steelers.
Speaker 2 (58:34):
Don't get Aaron Rodgers, They're they're not bringing back Russell Wilson. Nope,
And all of a sudden, that's a that's a playoff team.
I mean, that's a team that has a coach that's
never had a losing season. All of a sudden, they're
on the horn to Atlanta saying, so can we talk
to I know for Kirk Cousins, now that makes sense perfect.
Speaker 1 (58:59):
How the Falcons get something for him?
Speaker 2 (59:02):
I mean, they still got to eat a lot of contract,
but at least you're gonna get something for him.
Speaker 4 (59:06):
Billionaires. I understand, billionaires, I understand.
Speaker 1 (59:09):
I understand what bonaires, But there are cap implications. I
get you.
Speaker 2 (59:12):
But I mean everyone's working under the same salary cap,
so there are cap implications.
Speaker 1 (59:17):
But at least you would get something in return. So
I guess that's my feeling.
Speaker 2 (59:21):
As far as the Steelers are concerned, they've really pigeholed
themselves by letting Justin Fields go.
Speaker 1 (59:27):
And again, if if they don't get Aaron Rodgers, then
what what?
Speaker 4 (59:33):
Mason Rudolph, let me ask you this about Russell Wilson.
Speaker 1 (59:38):
Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 3 (59:43):
Okay, paper, sure, but I still take someone at number
two for my future. Do teams have to stop trying
to band aid the quarterback position from year to year?
Speaker 4 (59:57):
It does not work.
Speaker 3 (59:59):
Here's a reason why Jalen Hurts has played in the
last two of the four one to one Pat Mahomes
runs this Josh Allen keeps getting to the division around
in the AFC Championship Game. Lamar Jackson keeps getting to
the division around in the AFC Championship Game. There's a
reason people, they are the solidified franchise quarterbacks naming the
team that band aid the quarterback position that can even
(01:00:20):
win the wildcard game?
Speaker 4 (01:00:21):
Did Cleveland try to a flyco right? Watson got hurt,
Flako had.
Speaker 1 (01:00:25):
A nice little run in the round absolutely of the year, and.
Speaker 3 (01:00:28):
Then what happened once they went down to take to
the Houston indoors not outdoor implement weather or nothing. Got
whooped because it's just it's not sustainable fixed.
Speaker 1 (01:00:40):
Why did Cleveland get rid of Baker Mayfield?
Speaker 6 (01:00:42):
Huh?
Speaker 4 (01:00:43):
A guy who got me to the playoffs from he took.
Speaker 2 (01:00:45):
He was drafted by a team that was one in
thirty one to two previous years. Two years got him
in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:00:51):
With eleven wins. Right incompetent front office, there's a bunch
of them. Stop trying to band aid the quarterback position.
It's like a relationship. Listen, if it's over, it's over.
Stop trying to band aid it from weekend to weekend,
because from Monday to Friday it's crap around the house,
but Saturday Sunday is fun.
Speaker 4 (01:01:07):
No, it doesn't work that way.
Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
All right, I'm gonna get to this, cam Ward Shador
Sanders on the other side, let's do it, because you
are the only one out. Well, actually I say you're
the only one, but I actually saw one mock draft,
one one that actually agrees to you. But I'm gonna
I'm gonna explain something. I'm gonna use your own words
against me, against you, But first let's find out what
(01:01:32):
is trending right now.
Speaker 1 (01:01:34):
I can do that with him, not with you, Monsey.
That's I can't do that.
Speaker 9 (01:01:37):
You can't do I'm barely listening to you because the
Magic might beat the Calves right now.
Speaker 8 (01:01:43):
I'm watching that, and so I'm just like focusing on this.
Speaker 9 (01:01:47):
There's about thirty seconds to go right now, and the
Magic have a one oh six to one oh.
Speaker 8 (01:01:52):
Three lead over the Calves in Cleveland. By the way,
I have won sixteen in a row.
Speaker 1 (01:01:56):
Did you guys hear Charles Barkley predict that Lebron will
not play another game this year.
Speaker 4 (01:02:00):
I saw that, Yeah, I saw that.
Speaker 1 (01:02:02):
Oh no, he went on, he goes he's done. Yeah,
he's done for the year.
Speaker 4 (01:02:05):
But I think a joke.
Speaker 6 (01:02:07):
Enjoy it.
Speaker 3 (01:02:07):
I agree, because he's like who, he's like, who, don't know,
nobody wanted to go.
Speaker 1 (01:02:12):
To Milwaukee exactly. No, No, he was talking about and
then he just got into the whole thing about that
groin injury. He's done, She's not done.
Speaker 4 (01:02:21):
What a groin injury looks fine?
Speaker 3 (01:02:22):
The way he was celebrated on the arena for Bryce
James winning state championship, So the groin looks fine.
Speaker 8 (01:02:31):
Man, it was so funny because of the groing.
Speaker 1 (01:02:33):
I know this about the Lakers.
Speaker 2 (01:02:34):
I got a six game homestand now, but two of
the four of those games are back to back.
Speaker 4 (01:02:39):
I'll be there. I'm shooting out of here today to
get down.
Speaker 3 (01:02:41):
There for the end of that game against guys on
Wednesday and Thursday, one of those Nuggets, Nuggets and Bucks
this week.
Speaker 9 (01:02:47):
So tough teams going down to the final eight seconds
here and Orlando's still up by three. Okay, Yes, Suns
Lakers is going to start soon and Lakers will have
Luca Dantic available for this game.
Speaker 8 (01:02:57):
As for Lebron James, according to ESPN.
Speaker 9 (01:03:00):
He's doing on court workouts, but it's going to be
at least one more week until he comes back from
that growing injury. We will see if the Magic end
up spoiling the Cavs sixteen game winning streak with eight
seconds to go, it looks like they might be doing that.
So what has happened in men's college shops? Well, Florida
are the SEC champions. They just took down number eight
Tennessee eighty six to seventy seven VCU top George Mason
(01:03:23):
sixty to sixty three to win the Atlantic ten And
Yale has.
Speaker 8 (01:03:26):
Punched their ticket to the Big Dance after outscoring Cornell
ninety to eighty four at the AAC Final.
Speaker 9 (01:03:32):
Right now, still early in the first half of the game,
a number sixteen Memphis has a twelve to nine lead
over uab And. In baseball, guys, so apparently Mookie Betts
is ill loo.
Speaker 8 (01:03:44):
Yes, I heard flew.
Speaker 2 (01:03:46):
We had this on the news last night, but Dave
Roberts seemed the hits he could be ready.
Speaker 9 (01:03:51):
Well, apparently he tried to work out today. Yeah, and
he got tired really fast. So they don't think he's
going to be ready for Opening Day Tuesday at our time,
three am, six am East Coast.
Speaker 8 (01:04:03):
For that game in Japan, they don't think so.
Speaker 1 (01:04:05):
For the Dodger's sake, they're hoping that Yamamota has a
much better opening game than last year.
Speaker 2 (01:04:09):
Well no, no, no, Well, Blake, Actually he had seven
strikeouts in the first three year.
Speaker 1 (01:04:13):
He gave up the three year and then he got
lit up in the fourth. And remember Yamamoto last year
in Korea and he got.
Speaker 8 (01:04:19):
Rocked by the Yeah, but that was the Padres, but
that was also his first game. I feel like it's
gonna be a little bit different. He got Sasaki in
the other game, and then you have Sasaki in the
other game.
Speaker 9 (01:04:28):
Does it say anything that that Tokyo team, the Tigers,
shut out both the Dodgers and the Cubs.
Speaker 1 (01:04:35):
Well, I mean, when you consider the success of so
many of these jap now.
Speaker 8 (01:04:40):
Why shut out both of them?
Speaker 9 (01:04:43):
I was like, all right, guys, get get witted, get witted.
Speaker 6 (01:04:46):
Earl.
Speaker 8 (01:04:47):
It is early, but that's fun. That's the fun part.
Speaker 9 (01:04:49):
And Fravar Beldez has been named the Astros opening starter
for a fourth time in his career.
Speaker 8 (01:04:54):
Okay, back to you guys, all right, thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:04:58):

Speaker 1 (01:05:21):
All right, So I actually listen to what you say.
Speaker 2 (01:05:26):
I've been accused over my many decades of doing this
that I literally do not hear my partners.
Speaker 1 (01:05:33):
I mean, Rich Hornberger is notorious, and I will admit
there are times when I will have a partner going
to diatribe and then I will come in with what
I think is a fresh take and literally repeat what
they just said.
Speaker 2 (01:05:46):
Okay, because I'm formulating in my head, I'm not listening.
But there was one thing I did hear you say,
and I'm one hundred percent with you.
Speaker 1 (01:05:54):
When it comes to the draft, it's not always who
you draft, it's where you draft.
Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
And so I'm looking at this situation with both cam
Ward and short Schadeur Sanders, and you have, you know,
teams at the top obviously with the Titans, with the
Browns and the Giants that all neat quarterbacks. Okay, so
it looks like easy, right, Okay, there it is normal, right,
you have teams at the top, bad teams who neat quarterbacks.
Here are the two best quarterbacks. Although Jackson Dart, by
(01:06:23):
the way, is moving up quickly on the list.
Speaker 1 (01:06:25):
I do too. I was watching some highlight film that guy.
I mean, he lives up to the name Dart. He
can roll that. Oh god, he's got a cannon. He
has got an arm act very accurate. So Jackson Dart
might be in the mix eventually.
Speaker 2 (01:06:39):
But anyway, but here's the thing about this draft, because
as you are putting your draft board together, all thirty
two teams have their own individual draft boards. They're all
hidden everything else. You're playing the guessing game with everybody else.
This is why we always know, like especially like in
literally the weeks leading up to the draft. Remember we
(01:07:00):
had the situation a couple of years ago, you know,
or C. J. Stroud and Will Levy. You know, Levis
is good, he.
Speaker 1 (01:07:08):
Could go number two. You know he'll be number two overall.
Houston's gonna take him.
Speaker 3 (01:07:12):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:07:13):
CJ.
Speaker 1 (01:07:13):
Stroud is dropping like a stone.
Speaker 2 (01:07:15):
I think they came out with some story that he
hadn't done well on the tests or this everything else.
And obviously he was the second pick and he had
an unbelievable rookie season. So I'm but here's the thing
about this year. I do not believe that there are
teams out there. I know you throughout the Saints, you're
throwing out a couple of teams that might want to
move up. I don't believe that for a second. I
(01:07:38):
really believe.
Speaker 4 (01:07:39):
Why not, though you have to tell me why now?
Speaker 2 (01:07:40):
Well, here's my point. These are bad teams. Okay, the
Giants are a bad team. Yes, the Browns are a
bad team, yes, and the Titans are awful.
Speaker 1 (01:07:49):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (01:07:50):
A quarterback a quarterback alone is not going to change
the fortune of these teams. So if you can figure
out a way to trade down a little bit, guess what,
it's a game of chicken. You could still get your
quarterback and pick up an extra draft pick or an
extra player along the way. That's what all three of
those teams should be thinking this draft because I don't
(01:08:11):
believe that teams are going to move up, you know,
and give up a boatload for one of these quarterbacks.
I just don't think cam Ward Inchaudeur Sanders, at least
that's the perception of both of these guys around the NFL.
I just think using a top three pick on these
quarterbacks is not a wise way to handle this draft.
(01:08:32):
With that kind of draft capital at the top of
the draft, don't do it on one of these quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (01:08:37):
Trade down. You could still get one of these cores.
You could get Jackson Dart, who could actually be better
than both cam Ward and Chador Sanders.
Speaker 2 (01:08:45):
That's the way I look at how this draft should go,
not exactly well how it will go, but that's how
I would handle it if I was one of those
teams at the top of the draft.
Speaker 3 (01:08:56):
All right, So first of all, I have to bunk
the idea that team do not see these guys as
franchise changing. And if you're bad and you need a quarterback,
it's easy to say, well, you're more than a quarterback away,
Dub That's why you're two and fifteen, because you are
more than a quarterback away. But a d tackle's not
changing you next year. A corner's not changing you next year.
(01:09:18):
The left tackle out of Texas. Both those tackles, both
those big uglies, those hog Comlli's up front. They'll help
you build, but they're not changing you two and three
years from now, because there's gonna be other big tackles
coming along.
Speaker 4 (01:09:31):
You have to solidify the QP position.
Speaker 3 (01:09:35):
I don't care if it's Pop Warner, if it's middle school,
high school, UFL, USFL, XFL, I don't care.
Speaker 4 (01:09:43):
What league NFL you're back in the day.
Speaker 1 (01:09:45):
I don't care.
Speaker 4 (01:09:46):
You must solidify the quarterback position.
Speaker 3 (01:09:49):
And this idea that teams aren't clamoring, teams aren't go
through mock drafts.
Speaker 4 (01:09:53):
I talk to a lot of n IF. I'm building
a lot I built when I built.
Speaker 3 (01:09:57):
I built a nice NFL source of people covering the
Rams Chargers this year, and I'm calling, people are asking,
We're texting back and forth.
Speaker 4 (01:10:03):
People are texting me. Now, hey man, listen, I'm here
you on the air. Talk that stuff. Man.
Speaker 3 (01:10:08):
Cam Ward and Shador Sanders are going in the first
four picks. Guys, don't let talk at the camp at
the combine, don't let talk for and I'm not trying
to knock any other expert that calls into SHOULDS or
does TV into. I'm not trying to knock none of
them dudes. They're reporting the stuff that they're kind of hearing.
I'm just of the elk and of the perception of
I don't believe everything I hear. I look at the
(01:10:29):
sauce on the plate and the Okay, I see what
that is. It's red, So that's not gravy. So don't
put red sauce on the plate. Tell me it's gravy.
Gravy's brown or white. Where I come from, it's not red.
So that's where I'm at with this. And they're their
some mackdos that have the giants moving up to number
one because they either really like cam Ward and they
really like Shador Sanders. Now I like cam Ward, but
I love Shandor Sanders. I love Shador Sanders. The only
(01:10:53):
thing I wanted to do is in the NFL, BRO,
when you get pressure in front of you, you cannot backpedal. No,
it's not college. You cannot backpedal. You gotta be able
to maneuver the pocket. Let me let me just say this.
With these three teams Cleveland stay in pied, Cleveland staying
padd at number two.
Speaker 4 (01:11:06):
Cleveland's not moving now. Abdual Carter may be.
Speaker 2 (01:11:08):
A pick for them if he went him in a
CA I mean, would you in retrospect with the Miles
Garrett situation?
Speaker 4 (01:11:14):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:11:15):
Why didn't you let Miles and then take up dual Carter?
Speaker 4 (01:11:17):
Because I because, well, first of all, I told you
and Monty.
Speaker 1 (01:11:21):
Sorry, what was Cleveland's record last year with Miles Garrett?
Speaker 3 (01:11:23):
I get it, I get it, But I told I
told you on Monty this last week. Miles Garret's gonna
win out in a year and a half. He took
the money because you put it on the table.
Speaker 1 (01:11:29):
Of course he did.
Speaker 4 (01:11:30):
I wouldn't.
Speaker 3 (01:11:31):
I thank you you put that contract, highest non paid
quarterback in NFL history.
Speaker 4 (01:11:36):
Where's the pen?
Speaker 1 (01:11:37):
You want?
Speaker 3 (01:11:37):
Black or blue? Sorry, I'm signing. They tell my agent hush,
shut up, everybody be quiet, give me the pen.
Speaker 4 (01:11:42):
I'm signing this right now.
Speaker 1 (01:11:44):
That's a big calf number.
Speaker 3 (01:11:45):
It is a big cat number. But he's gonna want
out of it because they're not gonna be any better.
Why because if they take uf dual Carter at number two,
you're mistought taking your quarterback then not gonna get Jackson Dark.
Somebody else is gonna move up and take that kid
because that kid could play. So I think three or
four quarterbacks are going in the first round this year.
Mark my words, mark it down.
Speaker 1 (01:12:00):
All right. On the other side, I'm just gonna hang
on for this moment because I want to continue this.
Speaker 2 (01:12:06):
Because you mentioned your love affair with Shador snaps, and
there's a big reason why a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:12:12):
Of people are not in love with Shador Sanders. Valid
are not.
Speaker 2 (01:12:17):
What is the case of Shador Sanders should talent outplay personality?
If you want to call it.
Speaker 1 (01:12:25):
Down, Steve, I'm telling you, oh, Kyl, you're gonna hear.
On the other side, this is Fox Sports Sunday, Steve
Harbin VJ. Husky.
Speaker 2 (01:12:35):
Here, Fox Sports Sunday. We're live from the Tyraq dot
Com studios. All right, So it's in the books. Florida
defeated Tennessee eighty six seventy seven in the SEC Championship game.
VCU hangs on to be George Mason sixty eight sixty three.
They get the Atlantic ten Championship U A B. Memphis
are tied.
Speaker 1 (01:12:53):
Actually Memphis now with a one point lead twenty three
to twenty two, seven minutes ago in the first half there,
and Michigan off to a good start early on against
Wisconsin twelve seven Wolverines eleven minutes to go in the
first half. Those are the last two.
Speaker 2 (01:13:06):
Conference championship games, and the brackets will be revealed in
a little more than two hours. All right, So we're
talking about the NFL draft, and of course VJ Husky adamant.
I don't know why he keeps saying top four picks.
I mean, New England's not taking a quarterback. Do you
mean top three picks?
Speaker 5 (01:13:21):
Right?
Speaker 3 (01:13:22):
No, just no, because I think something there's gonna be
movement these four Nobody is moving up.
Speaker 1 (01:13:27):
Okay, let me stop right here about Shudor Sanders.
Speaker 2 (01:13:30):
All right, So this is the criticism of Shudor Sanders,
and a lot of people always said, well, how is
this nil money going to affect things?
Speaker 5 (01:13:38):
You know?
Speaker 2 (01:13:38):
I mean, it's good for these players. They're finally getting paid.
They're bringing zillions of dollars to these universities, they're getting paid. Well,
here's the difference, and we saw this last year from
Caleb Williams. Caleb Williams basically set his own rules last year.
I don't need your mind. I've already got millions. You
how much money he.
Speaker 1 (01:13:54):
Made in those two years at USC about ten million dollars? Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:14:00):
So, and Shador Sanders is driving around in his rolls Royce.
I mean, this kid has already got.
Speaker 1 (01:14:05):
Millions of dollars, millions of dollars, Okay. So Shador's out there.
Speaker 2 (01:14:11):
So his attitude is you know what in the past,
you're trying to indicce entice me right. You know, I'm
going to finally get the big money. I've already making
the big money. If anything, I might be taking a
pay cut coming to the NFL. And there's a lot
of you know, there's a lot of factors here.
Speaker 1 (01:14:27):
But here's the.
Speaker 2 (01:14:28):
Problem with quarterbacks in particular. It's not just the fact
that you have to obviously play well deliver. You're expected
to be a leader on that team. And if you're
a rookie quarterback with a lot of bravado. Cam Ward
is already on records talking about you know, you don't
take me blah blah blah blah blah. Last guy that
said that was Josh Roslynd, how to work for him?
(01:14:50):
And now we're hearing the same thing a little bit
from Shador Sanders, and I'll set the rules. I'll tell
you you know what, I'm going to do this and
and everything else. You go in that locker room as
POI quarterback, you better deliver because if you don't, you
come in with this. I'm above all of you. I've
(01:15:10):
already got millions in the bank. I don't really need
I'm doing you a favor by being here. You come
in with that kind of attitude in an NFL locker.
Speaker 1 (01:15:19):
Room, that's gonna be rough. I mean, you don't.
Speaker 2 (01:15:23):
I'm just advising any young quarterback just get into the league.
If you got the goods, guess what, you're gonna get
all the riches. If you don't, you'll be looking for
another job. But you come in with a certain level
of bravado into the NFL. You have really put the
(01:15:45):
spotlight on you, and you better deliver. I would just
advise any young quarterback don't do that. Okay, Josh Rosa
made a mistake, and I don't think that Shador Sanders
is doing himself any favors right now.
Speaker 4 (01:15:58):
All right, I'm one opposite side of it. I'm not
riding with that. Okay, this is the deal.
Speaker 1 (01:16:00):
This is the deal.
Speaker 3 (01:16:01):
This is the world we live in today. We're not
We're not living for ten, fifteen, twenty years ago. Because
at the end of the day, when you put the
tape on, see, this is what people do. This is
pay Elijah clip. This this is what people do. Whenever
you have some confidence about yourself, they try to shut
you down. They want to bury you because they want
everybody to be this humble guy coming in here. If
(01:16:22):
you want to win, you do take me. Why can't
I say that? You can say it, but you gotta
deliver it.
Speaker 4 (01:16:28):
So they let him. Let him get the chance to
deliver it.
Speaker 3 (01:16:30):
Then don't say, well, you know what, I don't like
that he said that, so I'm not gonna take him.
I don't like that he said that, So I'm gonna
ignore all the great film that's out there. At the
end of I am a film junkie. I am a
high school football coach. I am a film junkie. Stop
pointing out what someone said and the number that put
the tape on, because the tape, since the time tape
(01:16:53):
has been infitted, does not lie.
Speaker 4 (01:16:56):
It doesn't. We can all do narratives, we can all
pull a stat from a game or a stat from
two game. But put the tape on, talk.
Speaker 3 (01:17:06):
To everybody else around him, and this shit door Sanders thing,
I'm so sick of, not you, but just everybody else.
This is Deon Sanders. Hey, it's the same thing Brannie
James is gonna go through. But no one wants to
make that comparison and have the balls to do it,
but me. It's the same comparison. If you don't like
his dad, do you're not gonna like his son Deonson.
That's why he stood up there and said, you think
I care about this negative stuff?
Speaker 4 (01:17:28):
You want your quarterback to be there? Or do you
want your quarterback to care about it?
Speaker 3 (01:17:31):
So when he gets tenny NFL, he shuts down, he
can't take the pressure. Then we'll all be sitting on
TV and radio saying, oh man, look how soft he is. Lacas.
So you play pro football now you in the NFL.
You can't take a little criticism. We'd all be saying
that about him. The fact is, when you put the
tape on, Kim Warner, Shador Sanders or heads above everybody
at the quarterback position.
Speaker 4 (01:17:52):
Is this the quarterback draft.
Speaker 3 (01:17:54):
Of twenty twenty and twenty twenty one. Probably not, that's fine,
but it's the draft of twenty twenty five. And if
you need a quarter listen, if Tennessee wants to take
Abdual Carter or Travis Hunter, knock yourself out.
Speaker 4 (01:18:04):
And if you're gonna try.
Speaker 3 (01:18:04):
To maybe get Aaron Rodgers because he's right there in Nashville,
which is one of my things and the source that
I have that said, that's a really good possibility. If
everything else falls through, and then that's fine, I do that.
But if you're Cleveland, you know you need a quarterback
for the future. If you're the New York Football Giants,
you know damn well you need a quarterback in the future.
Don't try to outthink yourself with this because you didn't
(01:18:25):
like his bravado and stuff. I need my quarterback to
have bravado because when you're in enough, did Tom Brady
a bravado? Did Pa Mahomes bravado? Did all the super
Big Ben Pey Manny? All these guys have bravado and
that's what helps you win. So if you're going to
shy away from it, good luck, good luck going a
different way. If you're these teams, good luck. Is Deshaun
(01:18:46):
Watson working out for.
Speaker 4 (01:18:48):
Cleveland right now.
Speaker 1 (01:18:49):
Okay, look they're giants. There is obviously to what you
have to say.
Speaker 2 (01:18:55):
But there again, when you talk about bravado there, look
at if you don't believe that you're the best player
on the field every time you take the field.
Speaker 1 (01:19:03):
You have no chance of having what's wrong with saying that, Steve?
But because you haven't done anything yet? So what you
haven't done it yet? Steve? You gotta gotta do something.
Speaker 3 (01:19:14):
You know.
Speaker 7 (01:19:14):
I could go all the way back to a guy
like Dizzy Dean. It ain't bragging if you could do it,
But it ain't bragging if you coming out of the
college game. Yes, you have done nothing to prove that
you can do it at the NFL level.
Speaker 4 (01:19:29):
Let's rather have a kid that believes you're doing some
docile little guy glow. Well, you know, work really hard.
Speaker 2 (01:19:36):
Dak Prescott. So I went to his first preseason game.
I'll never forget this. So that was the draft with
golf and wins, you know, and what's his game down
in Denver?
Speaker 1 (01:19:49):
Lynch? What was the kids?
Speaker 4 (01:19:50):
Pa pack Lynch?
Speaker 2 (01:19:52):
So those are the first round picks. So I remember
talking to some friends who were at the combine. I say,
any of the quarterbacks out there have the it factor?
And he goes, there's one guy, Dak Prescott. I'll finish
the rest of the story on their stype because I'll
tell you, I'll tell you bravado when it counts.
Speaker 1 (01:20:07):
This is Fox Sports Sunday, two hours.
Speaker 2 (01:20:10):
Away from the announcement of the brackets for this year's
NCAA Men's Division One tournament. Can't wait for that coming
down the stretch here on the Selection Sunday, we're broadcasting
live from the ti iraq dot com studios tire rack

tire buying should be coming up here in about twenty minutes.
John Paul Morosi JP, it's gonna be joining us as
we get ready for the start of the baseball season.
Dodgers and Cubs have a two game series, the Tokyo Series.
I believe the on the West Coast. If you're a
Dodgers fan, you would have to get up at three
(01:20:52):
am to watch the game on Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (01:20:54):
Three am.
Speaker 4 (01:20:55):
Yeah, I'm not doing that.
Speaker 2 (01:20:56):
Okay, So it's a long season, like you said, long
all right, so we'll have GP on talking about that.
We've been talking a little bit about the NFL draft situation,
and you.
Speaker 1 (01:21:09):
Know, again VJ is not wavering at all.
Speaker 2 (01:21:11):
He's not coming off his prediction that both cam Ward
and Shador Sanders will be right at the top of
the draft the first four picks, he says, you know,
first three picks whatever. And obviously teams at the top
of the draft that descerately need quarterback help.
Speaker 1 (01:21:25):
But we are talking about Bravado. So I was talking
about the Dak Prescott story.
Speaker 2 (01:21:31):
So you know, I'm talking to this guy, the NFL,
longtime NFL guy who was at the Indianapolis at the
Combine that year and all the focus was on Jared
Goff and Carson Wentz and pax Paxson Lynch, and I
asked him. I just said, I said, all right, anybody
out there have the it factor? He knows what I'm
talking about. You just you watch him, and he's got that.
(01:21:55):
And he goes, there is a guy.
Speaker 1 (01:21:56):
With the IT factor.
Speaker 2 (01:21:57):
It's none of those guys. It's Dak Prescott. And Dak
had the great junior at Mississippi State and then their
senior what he actually had better numbers, but the team
wasn't as good, so he sort of fell off the radar.
So I went to Dak Prescott's first preseason game in
San Diego.
Speaker 1 (01:22:14):
The Cowboys are playing the Chargers. Remember the San Diego Chargers, folks, Yeah,
I do. Anyway, they should still be there. But anyway,
so I'm watching Dak Prescott and you know how this
is VJ. It's called the eyeball test, right, And I'm.
Speaker 2 (01:22:29):
Watching this rookie in his first preseason game and he
is walking the walk. He's walking like as I hit
me instantly, like this guy belongs, like I am here
and I belong. That's what I'm talking about. When we
talk about bravado, you don't have to say it, you
(01:22:50):
just have to show it. I belong.
Speaker 1 (01:22:54):
And we've seen this, you know, from young quarterbacks. We
saw from CJ.
Speaker 2 (01:22:59):
Stroud who had some question marks going into his rookie
season with a really bad Texans team, and from Game one,
he walked in that field and showed I belong.
Speaker 4 (01:23:12):
He didn't he have bravado.
Speaker 1 (01:23:13):
C an't come out, he didn't come out with a
lot of boasts before the draft.
Speaker 3 (01:23:17):
No, see, that's the thing you're trying to see. Now
you're putting. Now you're doing word sealing. You as no, no, no, no,
hold on, hold on stea. Now you're saying boast. It's
okay for someone to say that I'm the guy I
want you to take me. I'm cut for this, I'm
ready for this, I want to win, and I'm gonna
be But if.
Speaker 2 (01:23:32):
You don't have to say that right, no insecurities about it, no, no,
no no, if you have to constantly tell yourself or
tell the world I'm great.
Speaker 4 (01:23:43):
They're answering questions. People are asking him.
Speaker 3 (01:23:45):
Neither one of these kids walked to the podium and
just started shouting off stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:23:49):
They're asking questions.
Speaker 3 (01:23:50):
The media members are asking them questions, and they're answering them.
Speaker 4 (01:23:54):
I'm not gonna I was asking for that.
Speaker 1 (01:23:56):
If I hear my answer, do I believe I can
play this league? Apps?
Speaker 4 (01:24:01):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (01:24:01):
But that's how you would answer it. That doesn't mean
he hasn't answer it that way. And that doesn't mean
because they didn't answer it that way that you want
them to.
Speaker 4 (01:24:08):
But if that's a.
Speaker 2 (01:24:08):
Bad way, if you put money in the hands of
young people. We know it has a different effect on everybody.
Speaker 1 (01:24:15):
If you've been.
Speaker 2 (01:24:15):
Driving around in your rolls Royce, you got millions in
the bank already, and all of a sudden it's like
this you're telling me, like this is like some step
up for me.
Speaker 1 (01:24:23):
I've already arrived.
Speaker 4 (01:24:25):
You hear about me. He didn't say that though, that's
not that's not that your door.
Speaker 1 (01:24:30):
Some teams are employed and that's their fault.
Speaker 3 (01:24:33):
That's their fault for doing that. Then by implying that,
you don't have to imply that, you're implying something that
is completely an assumption on you.
Speaker 4 (01:24:41):
Or you can look at say all right, I get it.
Speaker 3 (01:24:43):
This kid is the son of Dion Sanders Prime Time,
so yeah, he been had money. So it's not about
the money and that's fine, But you don't think that
he still want his own hundred million dollar contract one area.
It's all one hundred and fifty million dollar contract one day,
so he don't So maybe he could turn around.
Speaker 4 (01:24:59):
Remember he bought it dad of a house. He bought
his dad i mansion. So he's taking care.
Speaker 3 (01:25:03):
Of the family now and that's still making money. That's
that's got nothing to do with his want. We're we're questioning,
we have a problem with this, we're questioning his want
to win and want to be great at the quarterback
position in football because he comes from money.
Speaker 4 (01:25:18):
Because he comes they got nothing to do it.
Speaker 1 (01:25:21):
And you're right about that.
Speaker 2 (01:25:23):
But you know, to be successful as a quarterback in
the National Football League, you gotta put in the work.
Speaker 7 (01:25:29):
You gotta put in the work, and they will put
I think both these kids, you gotta put in the
wayne and you gotta watch.
Speaker 1 (01:25:35):
Film, and you gotta grind, grind, grind.
Speaker 3 (01:25:37):
And if you want to be an elite quarterback and
understand that, Steven, I'm hinding my money on both these
young kids doing just that.
Speaker 4 (01:25:43):
I don't see neither one of these young kids. He
just running into the league and that doesn't got it.
And once again, see there you go.
Speaker 3 (01:25:50):
You're questioning their want to want to be great because
they're comfortable money wise, because of nil.
Speaker 4 (01:25:55):
I'm not buying that.
Speaker 3 (01:25:56):
Some people still want to be competitive, man, some people
you don't want to compete, regardless of what they bake.
Account says, your bank account's got nothing to do with
your competitive heart and a competitive spirit. And this is
coming from a guy who wants to be the first one.
When I go to play golf of my friends, I
want to beat the first one there. I want to
be I want to beat my boys to the golf course.
There's something to me about being the first one there.
(01:26:18):
That's just part of my competitive spirit, regardless of whether
I'm gonna win that round today or not, regardless of
how much money I got or what kind of car
pulled up. In the competitiveness of a human of a
human being, especially a man, does not change a lot
of times, Steve, because of what's in your bake account.
Speaker 1 (01:26:35):
Okay, I'll never aget.
Speaker 2 (01:26:36):
Marvin Hagler, the great Marvelous Marvin Hagler had this quote.
When he was asked why he lost his edge. Hagler
offered this line, it's hard to do road work at
five am when you're sleeping in silk pajamas.
Speaker 1 (01:26:50):
When you have money, When you have money.
Speaker 2 (01:26:54):
We have seen this around the NFL time and time again,
where a guy is working off his rookie deal and
now he's in line to get that big payday and
he gets it, and all of a sudden, he ain't
the same player.
Speaker 1 (01:27:07):
He didn't have the same hunger. He doesn't have the
same desire. He's gotten it. Man, he arrived, he made.
Speaker 3 (01:27:12):
It, and Tom and Tom again, we've seen players in
that same predicament how money.
Speaker 1 (01:27:16):
Predict and work harder.
Speaker 2 (01:27:18):
But my question always is, how do you know, because
I've talked to general managers, how can you tell that
that's a guy like a guy like Tom Brady.
Speaker 1 (01:27:25):
He didn't care how much money he made.
Speaker 2 (01:27:26):
He was always going to be right. He was always
going to push himself to be better, better, better. We
know that the Magic Johnson's the super Superstars, it was
never about the money.
Speaker 1 (01:27:35):
It's always about putting.
Speaker 2 (01:27:37):
But how do you know that guy is one of
those and he's not one of those guys that's like,
all right, I got my payday, I'm good.
Speaker 3 (01:27:43):
And Tom Brady admitted that he was eighth on the
depth chart at Michigan and kept telling everybody that would
listen to him, they're gonna regret having me eighth, and
walked up to Bob Kraft the first day said how
you doing. I'm Tom Brady. I'll be the best business
decision you ever made. And I'm sure for you.
Speaker 4 (01:27:58):
Oh my god, who does this rookie think he is?
Speaker 6 (01:28:00):
He?
Speaker 1 (01:28:01):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:28:01):
The kid is confident in himself, and yes they have
to prove it. But this whole oh, sit quiet until
you prove it. Yeah, all right, clothes mouse, don't get fed.
Speaker 2 (01:28:09):
But how does money affect you? That's one of the
things you have to understand, and you have to figure
out what these kids, I get it. Why can't it
be depositive? Why can't it's not money make him want
to work harder? Well, Kayln Hurts got his deal? What
the Jalen Hurt turn around to do?
Speaker 4 (01:28:23):
Win?
Speaker 3 (01:28:24):
Won a super Bowl after getting his deal, after getting paid?
What the Jalen Hurts do. I was always a Jalen
Hurts fan and no.
Speaker 4 (01:28:30):
Me too, all the way back to all the way back.
I hate the way he got bus no, no.
Speaker 1 (01:28:34):
No, But that was when I knew he had the character.
Speaker 2 (01:28:37):
See, I was always impressed with just Jalen Hurts the individual,
but the way he sat behind Tua that entire in
Alabama never made a peep, did his transfer Oklahoma, second
in the Heisman, and now he's a super Bowl champion. Absolutely,
That's when I knew the character of a guy like Jalen. Yeah,
but I'm just okay, So, where have you seen the
miscarriedc cam.
Speaker 1 (01:28:56):
We're not saying that.
Speaker 4 (01:28:57):
Oh yeah, I'm about to say, where's the mischaracter? Should
door cam?
Speaker 3 (01:29:00):
That's what I'm trying to figure where's this, where's the
where's the bump in the road that you could point
out and go, yep, there's the pothole that we always
we saw with Johnny football? Right, we said, and then
we watched the Johnny Manziel thirty for thirty and you go, whoa.
Speaker 4 (01:29:13):
He he wasn't even following the playbook. He was showing up.
Speaker 3 (01:29:17):
The offensive coordinator knew he was hungover at practices, Like wow,
And I didn't care. It was a great story. I
was like wow, And he still went and put up
forty points in in Tuscaluza and Peter Alabi Nick Shaven
still trying to figure out that's kind to re stopped
this kid, but just a magic But no one, No
one said.
Speaker 1 (01:29:33):
Well, I mean the NFL, they wouldn't let him do that.
That was the problem.
Speaker 3 (01:29:36):
So brash, But I just I'm gonna stand pack. I
watched the film. I can see you to watch the film.
My mock draft will be out in a few weeks.
I am doing a live first round draft pick on
my my TV show. So I'm doing the live first
round draft show three full hours. I'm standing Pat. Both
these guys got the sauce. Both these kids have to
(01:29:57):
have the film. It's not their fault that their parents
are ni l done well for them. That's not their fault.
Let's let them get into the league and let's see
what they do. But I still don't mind you asking me,
so what do you bring to the table. I mean,
I bring a winning and you know I bring like
SULDR said, what was wrong with Listen? If you're not
looking to win, don't take me like, what is wrong
(01:30:19):
with dad?
Speaker 1 (01:30:20):
Like?
Speaker 4 (01:30:20):
If you're not looking? And we know a lot of
these owners are looking to win.
Speaker 3 (01:30:27):
Uh no, No, they lost their game and both their
star players played in that What does that mean though,
that's nothing to.
Speaker 4 (01:30:33):
Do with everybody else played that ball exactly and he played.
Speaker 3 (01:30:37):
And guess what that shows character because he could have
sat and should have sat.
Speaker 4 (01:30:43):
Travis could have sat. But you know what coach Prime said,
Oh no, no, no, no, no, we don't do that.
Speaker 6 (01:30:49):
Here.
Speaker 4 (01:30:50):
We're ripping all these other coaches for letting their kids sit.
Speaker 3 (01:30:53):
But not one person that I heard other than me
got on national radio and saluted coach Prime for saying,
see that's character and making your kids followed. I've always
had a bad thing, even my Michigan God Steve that
sit out.
Speaker 4 (01:31:05):
No, no, no, you signed up for this. It's like
a relationship that you signed up for this.
Speaker 3 (01:31:10):
You don't get to run, you don't get to sit
out now because the next levels coming. So let me
back out of this now because the next levels coming. No, no, no,
we're not doing that here. No one propped him up
for that. But that's what he did, and that's what
his kids. That's called character. Finish what you start.
Speaker 4 (01:31:26):
Damn.
Speaker 1 (01:31:27):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (01:31:27):
I could get hurt. You could get hurt in September.
You could get hurt in October. You could get hurt
in November. You can get hurt anytime. Willis mcgaey had
his knees shredded in the National Championship Game.
Speaker 4 (01:31:37):
Did he have a good NFL career? I would think so.
Speaker 3 (01:31:39):
Ran four thousand years buch time with the Bills, rain
four thousand hours a bunch of times with the Ravens.
Speaker 4 (01:31:43):
He had a great career, but.
Speaker 3 (01:31:44):
Shredded his knee in the National Championship Game. I don't
want to hear about this injury stuff in these small
stories people come up with. Shador showed his class. Not
the only thing about ken Ward and what the Hurricanes
did is they knew he wasn't gonna play. Just be
honest and tell us last point. I may too, Marve
Harrison junior kid, I love you even though he's a
Buckeye kid. I love though, the fact that he decided
not to play. But you still gonna take the trip
(01:32:06):
with the team and come hang out and be all
in the camera knowing that Nah, man, if you not
gonna play, either sit you ass up in a booth
or just don't show up. If you're gonna show up,
then play period.
Speaker 4 (01:32:18):
Sorry.
Speaker 2 (01:32:18):
I was always curious with the Heisman vote how Shador
Sanders had fewer votes than Tyler Warren, the tight end
out of Penn State.
Speaker 1 (01:32:27):
Think about that. It's I thought that was hey, I
mean apparently so all right, coming up on the other side,
will switch gears once again. Major League Baseball season actually
starts this week sort of, and John Paul Morosio will
tell us all about it.
Speaker 2 (01:32:40):
This is Fox Sports Sunday, Steve Harbin and VJ. Husky
Here Fox Sports Sunday.
Speaker 1 (01:32:46):
We are live from the ti iraq dot com studios
and checking out the scoreboard right now halftime Wisconsin Lady
Michigan twenty three to twenty one. Let's see how that
sits a big Wolverine fan.
Speaker 2 (01:33:02):
Also are Fox Sports Radio MLB analyst the Great John
Paul Morosi JV. Does it matter to you whether or
not you're beloved Michigan Wolverines win the Big Ten Championship?
Speaker 5 (01:33:13):
Hell? Hell, oh, of course it does. Anytime you have
a chance to hang a banner at Chrysler Center.
Speaker 2 (01:33:21):
You do it.
Speaker 5 (01:33:21):
And I'll tell you what for Dusty May what he's
been able to achieve already this year. I guess we
could call it the Michigan double, if you will. If
the Spartans win the regular season and then the UFM
wins the tournament. It is a difficult conference to win
both the regular season and then the tournament as well.
So what a great buzzer beater yesterday, of course from
(01:33:42):
Michigan to get into the final game and certainly improving there.
They're seating perhaps and they're standing for the for the
NCAA tournament. But I know, and I speak on behalf
of my great home state here, we could see the
Spartans and the Wolverines both in the final four, and
that would be quite an achievement for us here in
the great state of Michigan.
Speaker 1 (01:34:02):
Well, it's the difference between UCLA and these other also rans.
At UCLA, there's only banners for championships, no final fours,
no conference tournament champions no regular season, none of that.
Speaker 2 (01:34:14):
Either you win it all or you don't. All right,
let's get to the start of the Major League Baseball season.
By the way, what is this Japanese team that's shutting
out both the Dodgers and the Cups. We know there's
this influx of all this great talent coming for Japan
into Major League Baseball. How good are the Japanese leagues
(01:34:36):
now in comparison to what they were ten, fifteen, twenty
years ago.
Speaker 5 (01:34:41):
Well, it's a great question, and I think that the
results of those games shows just how strong NPB is.
There's a reason why. Multiple times during the course of
the year, usually it happens around August after the MLB
trade deadline, you'll see MLB general manager flying over from
North America to Japan and then sometimes Korea as well,
(01:35:04):
to watch the top talent, because there are that many
talented players. Just look at the landscape of Major League
Baseball right now. Whether it's certainly in the case of
Japan we talk about Otani Yamamoto, there's additional now position
players coming over in the next couple of years. Okamoto,
a first baseman from the Tokyo Yamii Giants, Munitaka Mutakami,
(01:35:28):
who's a star hitting, power hitter, a slugger from the
Tokyo Yack Cult Swallows. There's a really really intriguing outfitter
coming over from the Ho Kaio Nipon ham Fighters. Of course,
the original team of Otani by the name of Chusse Manami.
The next two years too. I think that Takahashi, who
(01:35:49):
I saw pitching the premiere twelve rather in the month
of November, is as dazzling as certainly as rookie Susaki is.
He's that good and he's still in the NPB right now.
Speaker 4 (01:35:59):
So it's a unique.
Speaker 5 (01:36:01):
It's a unique situation in that the market for Japanese
players is not fully fluid, in that they have to
maintain a certain number of years of service in Japan
before they can come over to MLB unless they're posted
by their teams. So as a result, you can have
rotations of teams and lineups in Japan right now, who
over a longer stretch of time could compete with the
(01:36:25):
best in Major League Baseball. And we're seeing that already
this week, just like we saw it in the World
Baseball Classic when Otani and Team Japan beat Mike Trout
and the US in the final game.
Speaker 3 (01:36:36):
Chap Morosi vj Brno Husky A big of another funny here, Buddy.
Always great talking to you, and.
Speaker 4 (01:36:40):
We're gonna thank you so much.
Speaker 3 (01:36:41):
Listen, we're gonna switch teamscause I'm not even gonna try
to repronounce some of them names that you will repronounce
it just right there.
Speaker 4 (01:36:46):
Almost I almost say God, bless you a few times.
Speaker 3 (01:36:48):
All right, So listen, I talked to you about the
Texas Rangers, and then we talked about the race.
Speaker 4 (01:36:52):
Now to the bit we're on the Dodgers. I want
to flip to a team.
Speaker 3 (01:36:55):
And I know, I know it's spring training, I know,
but there is something to take away away somebody teams
are playing. I'm looking at the San Francisco Giants cause
I'm looking at a team that maybe could compete with
the Dodgers out here, and you know, they got some
guys that are taking enough bats and taking up swings,
three guys hitting over three hundred. You got Chapman in
four sixty two with four home runs. Is there anything
with this San Francisco Giant team that could kind of
(01:37:17):
reignite inn NL West rivalry and the Rivers not dead,
but just make it interesting after the All Star break
heading into the stretch run to battle the world defending
undisputed World CERs champions, the LA Dodgers.
Speaker 5 (01:37:32):
Absolutely, BJ, and I love the points that you're making
about the Giants. They bring in Willia Damas this year.
They also have some younger players coming up, Hera and
Carnaciona and had a really good spring training too, so
I like his potential to make an impact this year.
As you mentioned Matt Chaman, now I think even more
comfortable in a San Francisco Giants uniform. And it just
(01:37:55):
seems to me now that you've got Buster Posey there
for a full year as the president of Baseball Operations,
they've brought back in and I'm really intrigued by this.
The more of the traditional baseball for an office. Folks
who have playing experience. They've brought back the great Randy Win,
one of the wonderful people in Major League Baseball, as
their player development director. So I think they've brought in
(01:38:19):
some really first class baseball people, and I think that
is going to overtime. I think get the most out
of the roster they've got. And when you bring in
someone with Willia Doomas's background and his energy in the game,
Adamis plays the game with talent, but also swagger, energy, leadership,
and those are elements that the Giants in some ways
(01:38:41):
have been lacking since Buster Posing himself retired. So I'm
a believer. I love the points you're making. I think
that they're pitching will be a little bit better, better
and deeper and healthier than they were maybe last year.
So I'm on the same thing that you are. I
think the Giants will be a much improved team in
twenty twenty five.
Speaker 1 (01:39:00):
All Right, I'm going to pick out a random player
right now.
Speaker 2 (01:39:02):
Not so random because just a few years ago he
was projected to be the next young superstar in Major
League Baseball.
Speaker 1 (01:39:09):
For the last couple of years, the numbers have gone down.
Julio Rodriguez.
Speaker 2 (01:39:15):
So here's a guy that you know, that first year
out like everyone's talking about him like this is it.
I mean, this is another one of those young superstars,
like a Soto is going to be out there dominating baseball.
The numbers came down each of the last couple of years.
Is that the trajectory we're going to continue to see?
Or at the age of twenty four, still a kid.
(01:39:37):
Could he just have one of those breakout seasons. I
almost look back to Bryce Harper, you know, where all
of a sudden he had that gigantic year, like, oh,
that's the guy we all remember, you know, when he
had that huge MVP year with the Nationals. Is he
is he due for one of those?
Speaker 1 (01:39:54):
Or was he a little overhyped coming in?
Speaker 5 (01:39:57):
He is due for one of those? And I think
it's a great comparison to make to Bryce Harper, because
you're right when sometimes when these players arrived so young
and have success, you expect them to do it every year.
And even someone like Vladimir Guerrero Junior, who we're talking
about a lot getting an extension or maybe next year
(01:40:19):
he's going to be getting a want Sooto type contract.
He himself has had some ups and downs, and again
the case was Laddie is the same with Julio, that
they arrived so early. There are people players who are
Julio's age. If you look at the list of the
top prospects in baseball, he's basically the same age, twenty
(01:40:42):
four years old. He's twenty four years old if he
was playing in the Big Ten now, which in baseball
had setting seventeen teams, And if he was playing in
the Big Ten, he'd be in his first full pro
season now basically maybe a second pro season. So he's
still so young. And I think that part of being
(01:41:02):
a great player, and he is a great talent in
baseball is learning how to manage your own expectations of
your performance into the team concept because the pressure on
you is so great, and sometimes I think the great
players want it too much, they want it too badly
to produce. And this is the one sport of the
(01:41:24):
ones that we talk about so much on this network
that you can't play better by playing harder, And that way,
it's like golf, the harder you try, often the worst
you play. Whereas in football and in hockey you can
always hit somebody, you can always just give this amazing
effort and grind, and you are in basketball, you see
(01:41:45):
guys that are coming off the benches giving their team energy.
Speaker 1 (01:41:48):
He tried to do that.
Speaker 5 (01:41:48):
In baseball, you're going to strike out a three pitches.
So I think that in Julio's case, great young man.
I just think that he needs he needs that. It's
interesting he's got someone talent, but almost I almost feel
like he's best when he's playing at like seventy five
or eighty percent as opposed to one hundred, because when
you're trying two hard, sometimes it actually counterproductive. And I
(01:42:10):
think he lived that for a team that has struggled
offensively so much. But now they've got someone as a
director of hitting by the name of Edgar Martinez, who
you may know. Because I think those types of players
and mentors I think are going to be even better
for Juliowen. And I love what we talked about the
West Division in the NL and the AL. I think
(01:42:31):
both of them, the Dodgers, they're almost on their own category.
But outside of them, the other nine teams in the
AL West and NL West, they can almost finish in
any spot. And I love the element of surprise that
we have watching West Coast Baseball this season.
Speaker 3 (01:42:47):
Fox Sports Sunday, Hartman and Husky. We have right now,
JP Morosi, Fox Sports Radio MLB analysts. All right, man,
I want to go to the NL Central because I'm
a big Brew cool guy. I love what the Bucks
with the Milwaukee Brewers have done it over the last year.
But their peeple when I keep telling me, the Cincinnati
red team is going to catch up. And last year
were supposed to be the year you talk about Dela
(01:43:07):
Cruz and you know, they got done and they got
some good young players there and it just seems to
have it turned over for.
Speaker 1 (01:43:15):
The Red Jet.
Speaker 3 (01:43:16):
They were close and then the Bruce turn it on
last year ended up pushing about eight or nine games
in front of them and getting that division once again.
Can the Cincinnati Reds do they have enough pieces? Do
these young players? As my Steam colleague Tom our Left
just said, is this the year that we see this
team and go up? There's the young group of these
Red kids that are gonna catch the Brew Crew.
Speaker 5 (01:43:39):
I'm I'm a believer in the Reds. I also think
that that division is gonna get tougher because the Cubs
are a better team now than they were a year Ago. Yes,
they get Kyle Tucker, they're younger players like Pete Crow
Armstrong are better and better. It seems to me. The
thing about the Reds, they just had some tough news
with with Tyler Stevenson, their primary catcher, being out for
(01:44:01):
a while. It sounds like Jose Toravinho, who they acquired
from the Yankees, should be good to go for them
and be able to play opening Day, which is a
big time relief because even he had an issue of
injury wise there. And if you talk about any manager,
if you want to, if you want to see a
manager get just absolutely terrified with worry and concern this
(01:44:22):
closet opening day, tell him that his starting catcher is out,
because that's just they do not want to hear that,
and so steven fins out. But fortunately for them, Travignho
should be good to go. I think they've got a
really exciting team. Elie Dela Cruz for me as I'm
glad you mentioned him because I think he's one of
the most electrifying talents I have seen in my years
covering baseball, just his athleticism, what he can do. And
(01:44:46):
they get McClain back and McLain having him hurt last
year was a real struggle for the Cincinnati read so
healthy McClain, Christian and Carnacion. Strand can really hit. He's
a big time bat who I think is going to
have a big impact on the Cincinnati Reds too. So
I like, as I mentioned Hunter Green anchoring the rotation.
(01:45:07):
They've got some young talent coming. Louder is another good
name to watch in the rotation. So I think overall
the Cincinnati Reds have as much talent as they have
had probably in the last ten years. So I'm very
bullish on their chances.
Speaker 1 (01:45:20):
All right, So the Tokyo Series will kick off the
season for Major League Baseball this week between the Dodgers
and the Cubs. By the way, your Michigan Wolverines in
the first half held Tanja to zero points, the guy
that lit up UCLA in Michigan State zero points, and the.
Speaker 5 (01:45:38):
First They're gonna be a tough to They can create
some tough matchups. You got Wolf is a good guy
with size that could play in the perimeter too, So
I'm telling you they're gonna be a tough out in
the tournament.
Speaker 4 (01:45:53):
All right.
Speaker 1 (01:45:54):
Well, we'll see how that works. As always, John Paul
We appreciate the time. We'll do it again next week, JP.
Speaker 5 (01:46:00):
Looking forward to it. And by the way, if you
want to call me, you know, I know it's gonna
be early out west. When the when the uh yeah,
when the Tokyo series games wrapping, Yam York time. So
but if you want to call me any I'm not
you know, you know me, I'll be up playing, I'll
be up all the time.
Speaker 1 (01:46:13):
Okay, all right, JP, You're the best. We appreciate thanks man,
love catching up. Thank you so much. John Paul Morosi,
our Fox Sports Radio MLB analysts.
Speaker 2 (01:46:22):
Right now, all right, let's find out what is trending.
Monsey is standing by right now.
Speaker 1 (01:46:25):
You watching a lot of different things going on. We
are about an hour and a half away, less than
an hour and a half away for the brackets to
be announced.
Speaker 3 (01:46:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:46:34):
Also, none of these games better go to overtime, yes,
because then that's gonna.
Speaker 1 (01:46:39):
Get pushed back a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:46:40):
Yeah, why would be this Michigan Wisconsant game is a
weird game. I mean solo scoring and ceri. Yeah, Tanja
is zero for five, zero points.
Speaker 1 (01:46:50):
Yeah, no, very very thirty two on Michigan State.
Speaker 9 (01:46:53):
I was second guessing myself on the score and my
last up is all right, oh that is the score
right now?
Speaker 8 (01:46:59):
Very weird the second in the second half in a
se yes, like I really thought, is that the second quarter?
Am I tripping?
Speaker 6 (01:47:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:47:07):
At the NBA this way, they have played twenty two
and a half minutes and Michigan has twenty one points.
Speaker 1 (01:47:14):
Yeah, yeah, I.
Speaker 9 (01:47:15):
Mean wisconsinan it has twenty five and that's the score
of the ten final.
Speaker 8 (01:47:18):
Twenty five twenty one.
Speaker 9 (01:47:21):
Got to play defense. It is early in the second half,
so we'll see how this one ends up. Also early
in the second half of the AAC Final, and number
sixteen Memphis has taken the lead from UAB.
Speaker 8 (01:47:30):
They're up thirty nine thirty seven.
Speaker 9 (01:47:32):
But that one's also been back and forth with schools
have punched their ticket to the Big Dance Yale. Yeah,
they won the IVY League VCU. They took down George
Mason and won the Atlantic ten. And the Florida Gators
are the SEC champions after taking down number eight tennes
C eighty six to seventy seven. First title for fourth
rank Florida since twenty fourteen. And yes, we're like you
(01:47:53):
mentioned selection Sunday very close to that. Let's check in
on the NBA.
Speaker 3 (01:47:57):
Luka.
Speaker 9 (01:47:57):
Doncic came out to a hot start, but he kind
of cooled down already. He does have fifteen points and
the Lakers are topping the Suns forty nine to thirty three.
Late in the second quarter, the Orlando Magic snapped the
Cavs sixteen game winning streak.
Speaker 8 (01:48:08):
Coming out on top one away to one ozho three.
Speaker 9 (01:48:10):
It was a total team effort by Orlando, but Palo
Van Carol led the way twenty four points, eleven rebounds
on seven assists. In golf, the final round of the
Players Championship has been suspended because of lightning in the area,
but reports are that it's gonna start back up around
five point fifteen Eastern time, so in about forty five minutes.
But Rory McElroy has the lead at twelve hundred part overall,
(01:48:32):
one shot ahead of JJ Spahn. For today, McElroy is
four under through eleven holes, so in about forty five
minutes it should be starting back up.
Speaker 1 (01:48:39):
All very very good. We appreciate that as good mon
seeing great stuff. Hey, don't forget right after the show
our podcast is going up, So if you miss any

Speaker 2 (01:49:00):
I'm looking at the box score of this game between
the Lakers and the Suns. We got a minute half
to go on the half. The Suns have thirty five points.
Kevin Durant won for seven four points. His plus minus
is a negative twenty one in sixteen minutes.
Speaker 4 (01:49:16):
But I'm sorry, this team is done.
Speaker 1 (01:49:18):
What a the bells out there? Booker's out there?
Speaker 2 (01:49:22):
Kevin Durant? Is he still in the conversation? I mean
the numbers say yeah, he's still an elite player, that
he still has some kind of market value out there.
Speaker 1 (01:49:33):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:49:33):
The word was He basically gave the thumbs down on
returning to the Golden State Warriors.
Speaker 3 (01:49:38):
The biggest mistake was him leaving, of course, it was
that was the biggest mistake of him thinking that because
I came here and I won rings, you guys will
now love me the way to media or TV or
these plenties that sit on these TV shows love Lebron,
He said, it himself.
Speaker 4 (01:49:51):
He said it himself.
Speaker 2 (01:49:52):
So where else was he going to go into a
situation where a team's coming off a seventy three win
season with a two time league MVP, Steph Curry and
find out that Steph Curry is a teammate would allow
him step aside to some degree to let Durant do
his own thing nowhere, And they won, you know, back
to back championships. And then he's like, yeah, I'm the guy.
Speaker 1 (01:50:15):
No, you weren't the guy.
Speaker 3 (01:50:16):
Well, Draymond told him to his face during the time out,
we won before you. Yeah, and if you want to go, go,
And then they won like after he left. So Draymond
was right for people that don't like Draymond In fact, sometimes.
Speaker 1 (01:50:29):
Man, okay, because there are people in this group year.
Speaker 2 (01:50:35):
That are still insistent that Durant's as good as there's
ever been. And as a big man shooter, it's hard
to argue his ability to shoot the basketball. But I mean,
we're I mean, when you evaluate his career, is he
a top ten player in NBA history, top twenty player.
Speaker 3 (01:50:51):
Twenty five? He might make my twenty five list. And
that's because I'm a historian. I'm a Simon. I know
the game, so I don't.
Speaker 4 (01:50:57):
I'm not.
Speaker 1 (01:50:58):
I'm not dissing a doctor J Moses Malone, A Charles
I mean, would he be ahead of Jerry West and
Oscar Robertson?
Speaker 2 (01:51:04):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:51:05):
Absolutely not? How just why because I agree with because
he can score in today's.
Speaker 1 (01:51:09):
Let me be ahead of I mean, if you're want
to really go old school, is he better than elgam Baylor? No,
Elgie Baylor was dropping seventy with no three point lone?
Speaker 2 (01:51:16):
How about how about this elgree Baylor the first year
they moved his thirty ye in the league, the year
the Lakers left Minneapols to LA first season, averaged thirty
five point twenty rebounds, five assists, big old.
Speaker 4 (01:51:26):
How about your triple double? Like you have to, I don't.
Speaker 3 (01:51:28):
I don't get called in, Just like the topic we're
talking about earlier, right, Like, I'm not falling victim to
the name when it comes to free agency in football,
even when the guy's old, I don't fall victim to
oh top ten. And you see a guy's top ten
list and he has everybody from like nineteen eighty five
to now, like no one.
Speaker 1 (01:51:44):
Before then, Well that's that's ridic exactly, all right, but
let's would you rate him ahead of Carl Malone?
Speaker 2 (01:51:50):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:51:51):
Well, okay, so my beat. My thing with Carmeloon really fine.
Speaker 3 (01:51:54):
My thing with Carmelon is it's it's it's almost like
the Belichick Brady thing, right, is it?
Speaker 1 (01:51:59):
Brady is in the same play without Stockton. No you can't, No,
you can't.
Speaker 4 (01:52:06):
But Stockton is also the all time leader in two categories.
Speaker 1 (01:52:09):
Assists and steal. That's correct.
Speaker 3 (01:52:11):
And all Alone had to do was get to a spot.
Have you ever seen them give the ball to Alone
and say, hey, go get me a win. No, it's
gotta work with Stockton. But they never gave the Stockton
the ball and say hey, go give me thirty and
go give me it. He couldn't do it either. They
needed each other and we just can't picture them without
each other.
Speaker 1 (01:52:30):
The main think about their careers, not only that they
played like eighteen together. They never missed a game.
Speaker 4 (01:52:35):
No, no, they were.
Speaker 5 (01:52:40):
Two.
Speaker 3 (01:52:40):
You go down their stats on Basketball Reference, it's like,
and this is shocked the man. I'm like, wow, John
Stockton did missile start for like fifteen years.
Speaker 4 (01:52:47):
Yes, that era where guys could hit in the nineties
in the eighties.
Speaker 2 (01:52:53):
You know, I remember I did a show here with
Jim jacks a couple of shows with Jim Jackson. Right,
So he comes out of Ohio State nineteen ninety two.
So I said, what was the NBA like for rookie
in nineteen ninety.
Speaker 1 (01:53:07):
Two, and he just he just said it it was
a blood back.
Speaker 2 (01:53:11):
Yeah, like yeah, you know, you know Big Ten was,
you know, good basketball and everything else and everything else.
Speaker 3 (01:53:18):
Now, but think about the ACC at that time. To
go to the eighties and the nineties. Look at the
ACC or your rookie coming in. You were playing top
knots basketball at that point. But when you get to
the league, like, come on, dude, they froze Jordan out
in an All Star team and this is Michael Jordan. Yeah,
they would never do that to a rookie today. If
a rookie today made the All Star.
Speaker 4 (01:53:35):
Game and got picked, because they do the picks now,
they picked their teams.
Speaker 1 (01:53:38):
Yeah, they would never. Yeah, they sort of froze out
Kobe try to and.
Speaker 4 (01:53:43):
Try to try to, but when he but but when
he got in, when he got in.
Speaker 3 (01:53:48):
Yeah, well he wasn't gonna be got forced got for
them All Star MVP things too.
Speaker 1 (01:53:53):
He would made sure that.
Speaker 2 (01:53:54):
By the way, that's not the record alone, it's shared
a Bob Pettitt, who, by the way, is still alive.
Speaker 1 (01:53:59):
He's ninety two years and he's easily the most underrated
player in the history of the NBA.
Speaker 3 (01:54:03):
And remember famous in the locker room for saying that
LaCl boy, he ain't gonna let the game come to him.
Speaker 4 (01:54:08):
And remember all he gonna come get it like Jorna
was saying that back then. Now, he ain't gonna let
the game down to him.
Speaker 1 (01:54:14):
That's all you think, you know, is watch Cobe and
his first All Star game. He gonna come get it,
all right.
Speaker 2 (01:54:19):
Coming up on the other side, we're getting ready for
selection Sunday, and he surprises.
Speaker 1 (01:54:23):

Speaker 9 (01:55:27):
That's right, Yeah, congratulated, yes, no, thank you, Carrie and
I had fun, Yes, she got a great show.
Speaker 8 (01:55:34):
Always a pleasure.
Speaker 2 (01:55:35):
The great manse there Chris of course, always donning a
Pistons gear today, is right.
Speaker 1 (01:55:41):
Detroit, Yes, basket Paul.
Speaker 6 (01:55:46):
There's no football right now, and apparently there's a labor
dispute going down with UFL, so I might as well
just sigh, and I mean, hey, look, the Pistons at
least like are playing hard.
Speaker 1 (01:55:55):
Yeah, are you missing the.
Speaker 2 (01:55:56):
UFLUH Ask me in a couple of weeks, you know.
Speaker 1 (01:56:00):
And then our brilliant young producer Shay, who just continues
to grow and grow.
Speaker 2 (01:56:05):
Shade the laboring through this show as you do every week.
But it's a laborer love. It's a crazy workload. Yeah,
I knows, one of the hardest workloads in the in
the studio.
Speaker 1 (01:56:16):
You can well, you do a phenomenal job. We appreciate
it as always easy. All right, well Djay, Wow, another
very quick show today. We are counting down a little
over an hour away from Selection Sunday. As I said,
I'm gonna miss Great Gumble. I'm really going to miss
Great Gumble because to me that that man was synonymous
with Selection Sunday.
Speaker 2 (01:56:34):
You know, let's start in the West region, you know,
number one, and then I sit there and I'm waiting
for the you know, a little surprise, little hesitation that's sixty.
Speaker 1 (01:56:43):
They will be playing any number elevens and then they
do a cutaway maybe you know, to the team they're
all sitting together and they're jumping up and down. I mean,
I asked you at the top of the show, where
does a Selection Sunday rank.
Speaker 4 (01:57:00):
Fourth or fifth? Because you got a kickoff Sunday.
Speaker 1 (01:57:02):
But it is unique.
Speaker 2 (01:57:03):
That's the one thing I mean, what other sporting event
actually gets more people in this country involved than March madness?
I mean, what percentage of pep? I've said this many times.
The Thursday and Friday, those first two days of the tournament.
Sixteen games on Thursday, sixteen games of Friday. It should
(01:57:23):
be a national holiday. Nobody's working. Everyone is staring at
those brackets.
Speaker 1 (01:57:28):
Now after that, you know you got a bad bracket.
I'm done, see you later. I don't care about this
tournament anyway. But then you know you might have that run.
Speaker 2 (01:57:36):
You might have picked the right twelve to beat to five.
Maybe you had a thirteen beating of four.
Speaker 3 (01:57:41):
Are you get one of those teams to the sweet sixteen?
That's the thing, the first round upsets, those are a
crap shoot. You don't get no props from me from that.
It's did you pick a fourteen to the sweet sixteen?
Did you pick an eleven to the elite eight?
Speaker 1 (01:57:54):
Did you?
Speaker 4 (01:57:54):
Did you?
Speaker 1 (01:57:55):
Did you have NC stated as a final fourteen eleven
last year?
Speaker 3 (01:57:58):
Did you take them that far? Even my Tar Hills
a few years ago with with uh with as an
eight seed all the way to the national Championship game.
I had him to the Final four. I didn't have
any National championship game, but I had a feeling about
that team. And that's the team that went on to
beat Duke in the Final four. Beat Duke in the
their last game, coach kse last game of his of
his career coaching, beat him, and Cameron then beat him
(01:58:20):
again in the Final four. They're up in that National
Championship game and then the whistles just start to don't
go their way and they can't hit a shot. Next thing,
you know, Uh, Kansas and that kid Brown, that's what
the so with the different nuggets right now. He You know,
the kid made himself some money, made himself a draft
pick in the Star, and you know, you live and
learn with it. So my interest today is just one thing.
(01:58:43):
Uh Joe Leonardi has Carolina one of the first four out.
I'm just hoping that, you know, even though they lost
a lot of those.
Speaker 2 (01:58:50):
Good for you though, because you're watching the bracket and
all of a sudden, there it is North Carolina maybe
even in that and by the way, UCLA was in
that playing in twenty made it all the way to
find four going back to your tar heels. So they
win the championship. But the year before they lose to Villanova.
Speaker 1 (01:59:09):
Yeah. Game.
Speaker 2 (01:59:11):
So that year, I am sitting at my TV station
in one of our news anchors. She had never done
a bracket before, zero acknowledge of sports.
Speaker 1 (01:59:20):
Right. She goes, I want to fill out a bracket.
Speaker 2 (01:59:22):
I said, all right, So I gave her a bracket
and she's looking down and she goes, where's Ball Street?
I go, no, st that means stake ball Street. But
her origins were in Philadelphia. Guess who she picked? She
picked Villanova, I picked North Carolina. There's the infamous picture
of the two of us holding up the brackets. She
(01:59:44):
wins an eye lose, going with your tar heels.
Speaker 3 (01:59:47):
I know, whatever you would. The next year, you'd won.
And they should have won that game. Remember they're up.
Speaker 4 (01:59:51):
Eleven in that game, the whistles and the whistles.
Speaker 3 (01:59:54):
They're up eleven and they're looking like they're about to
pull away, and then the whistles start.
Speaker 4 (02:00:00):
It has slosed that game.
Speaker 1 (02:00:01):
Second, that game, purposely working against your targetl that.
Speaker 3 (02:00:06):
Wow, God, bless America. Have you played Patrick's date? Everybody
tomorrow enjoy the.
Speaker 1 (02:00:10):
Rest of your selection. Sunday. This is Fox Sports Radio
