Speaker 2 (00:32):
White side to Wilson, shattered up Old Veston has any stars.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
He stares Alex so betch Stan Store Saint ninety five.
There's a new goal scoring champion and his name he's
Alex Sander.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
Oh Betchtan.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
He has done it.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
Peter on Long Island. His teammates pop him.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
There is but one Alexander, the greats, the greatest.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
To ever do it in at all hoty League history.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Great call, great call right there, the capture of the moment.
Vj as Avechkin. Right now as we're speaking, they've of
course stopped the game right now, and uh they're actually
trailing this game two to one. They won't care about that.
Wayne Gretzky on the ice honoring a Vetchkin. By the way,
the thing about Wayne Gretzky that everyone needs to know
(01:30):
is if if you wonder about the character of a
guy like Wayne Gretzky, I have crossed paths with some
of the greatest athletes in the history of my lifetime,
and Gretzky is a gentleman. He is one of the
all time greats. He actually complimented me one time. We
were at a wedding at the same time, and He's like,
I've been listening to you for years, Steve. He's a
(01:50):
huge sports fan. He wanted to get into all the
sports and everything, just like you know. I was so
blown away. I almost apologized him because when he was
with the Kings, I was sort of like the anti Gretzky, like,
where are the cops?
Speaker 5 (02:02):
Right?
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Come on, Wayne, are we gonna win a cup here
in La Once once I met him, I'm like, Wow,
this guy is He's the real deal. He is an
absolute gentleman. He is he is the face of the
National Hockey League, but he is there. He's excited for
a Vetchkin to break this record. So anytime you get
you know, this kind of a record, I mean this
is like breaking.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
The home run record. I mean, this is it. Goals scored.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Alexvechkin is now number one on the all time list.
Speaker 6 (02:29):
Yeah, and as always, Man, welcome, Steve, Welcome myself Man,
Fox Sports Radio Sunday Harmon and Husky. He did, Burt
get a big Vanilla funny, big Vanila sports talk poppy,
thinking all of our wonderful listeners out there in Fox
Sports Radio listening to LAM for tuning in with us.
And yes, my man, Alex the Great, the big Russian
Alice Covechkin.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
Is now the all time leading.
Speaker 6 (02:52):
Score And this is a little bittersweet for me because
my favorite hockey player of all time is Wayne Gretzky.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
Wayne Gretzky was with my New York Rangers.
Speaker 6 (03:00):
Now we didn't win anything when he was there, but
you know, and then he's with the Kings, and that
was a popular thing because back then the King starter
jackets round and he had n w A and you
had the Raiders in LA and black and silver and.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
It was just popping.
Speaker 6 (03:14):
But I have to push back on the illustrious voice
we just heard saying he is now the greatest time ever.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
I agree what you say right there, Obviously, Gretzky is
the greatest. He's the only guy who's had his number
retired by the entire absolutely.
Speaker 6 (03:31):
And you talk about four time Cup winner, he talked
about ten times Ross winner, two two times Smith winner,
five time Pearson winner.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
All time leaders score and he's up there and assists also,
so he won just a goal scorer.
Speaker 6 (03:44):
Yeah, it's almost like John Stockton, right, number one and
assists and number one in stills. The guy could play. Well,
here's what you want to say about him. He leads
to all time categories two, not one two. He's not
top ten until he leads.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Well, here's the thing about Gretzky. Gretzky was first and
four foremost a facilitator. Yes, that was his game, wasn't.
When you think of goals scores, you usually think of
the wingers guys, you know, that's what their.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
Job is, scoring goals.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Los guy was a guy that would set up the
curries of the world and everybody else that was scoring
goals with the Edmonton Oilers back in the day messy.
So he was setting up some of the greats of
all time. Putting a lot of those guys, by the way,
in the Hall of fame.
Speaker 5 (04:25):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
But you know again, it's it's no knock on a Vechkin.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
But when you talk about who is the all time great,
it was Gordie Howe until it was Wayne Great and
Wayne will always be number one. But not taking away
a Vegkin, especially when you had the injury early in
the year, a lot of people thought, Okay, he's just
not gonna have.
Speaker 6 (04:45):
Enough under now and his body's been baked. That nice
gray beer, a very brutal game, verything is and always
standing on skates.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
But a Vekin standing next to Kretzky, he's like a giant.
It was like Mario Lemu back in the day, these giants.
Gretzky not that kind of a guy. But again, it
doesn't take away from Gretzky, but it does say everything
you need to know about Wayne Gretzky that he's front
and center there to congratulate being part of the celebration
for a beschkin Us family and break him. This record
(05:14):
eight hundred and ninety five career goals is mind blowing.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
Here's not a lot of goals.
Speaker 6 (05:18):
And also too, I just want to also bring up
and assists Gretzky led the NHL and assists from nineteen
seventy nine to nineteen ninety two. Yeah, he led the
league and assists every year. Then he missed it the
following year, but then he got it right back the
year right after that. So there was about thirteen out
of fourteen years he was not only the most prolific
hockey player, the most skilled hockey player, the best goal scorer.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
He was also the best.
Speaker 6 (05:42):
Oh, here you go, you go get yourself a goal
to let me help you get into the Hall of Fame.
Let me help you make some money on your upcoming
contracting deal because I'm going to feed you the puck.
Just be where you need to be, be where you're
supposed like Tom Brady, right, Just be where you're supposed
to be. I'll get you the football. Just be there
and I'll aarku you look good. The hard Trophy is
the MVP Award in the NHL. He won that eight
(06:03):
straight year.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
Yeah years, stuff well, and Jordan should have won that
many times. So I always, I always I applaud the
NHL back in the day because you know, the NBA fes, well,
we can't give it to you know, Jordan or Lebron.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
Every year we got to spread.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
It's like why, I mean, the NHL had no problem
to rightfully hand the MVP award eight straight years d
Wayne Gretzkin.
Speaker 6 (06:27):
And baseball does the same thing. Baseball gives it to
the best scout. We don't care about voter for team.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Harry Bonds won four in a row.
Speaker 6 (06:34):
Because he was the best player in baseball for four
years in a row, dominant.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
And then you look at the NBA.
Speaker 6 (06:38):
They they got all wrong now, but I'm not gonna
put it on a negative I want to put it
on a positivelight because I grew up in the D
and V. I grew up going to Capitol games when
they were terrible. Okay, there was about a ten year
span in my childhood the Redskins were the only good
thing that was going on. With Jay Schrader and Joe
Gibbs and and and and uh and uh, the John
Riggins and Doug Williams. They were the only thing going.
(06:59):
The Bullets were terrible at the Old US Arena out
in landover Maryland.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
The Capitals were terrible. The Orioles were said.
Speaker 6 (07:07):
The only reason why you drove an hour forty five
minutes shore I was from Woodbridge to Baltimore was to
see Cal Ripkins Jr.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
That was it for about ten straight years.
Speaker 6 (07:14):
So I remember when the Capitals were bad, and I
remember when they drafted this guy and people said he's
gonna win a Stanley Cup for the Capitals. Ah, God,
the Capitals are terrible. And what did he do? He
went and won himself a Stanley Cup for them. Now
he's the all time goal score leader. But once again,
this greatest of all time. We got to get out
of this victim of the moment stuff because I always
(07:35):
say when Kareem Abdul Jabbar, for for twenty something years
he was the all time leading scorer in the NBA,
nobody called him the greatest to ever doing. Karme Malone
was number two for about a decade and a half,
no one called him the greatest of all time.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
Alvechkin, it's great, he's done finishing in the moment.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
By the way, he did qualify by saying goal scorer, yeah,
but then yeah he.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
Time, but he's not the greatest. Goals scored big because
you've scored more more goals. And I, by the way,
hide in an.
Speaker 7 (08:03):
Era where goalies can use their legs though, which is
kind of the big difference and seismic enough that I
think it has to be taking in consideration of goalies
and Wayne Gretzky's era, well.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
And Wayne row down on their knees, I think one
hundred percent.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
Chris and also Gretzky would be the first to tell
you the nineteen eighties obviously was the highest scoring decade
in NHL history. You know, again, this Edmonton Oilers team
led by Gretzky and Messia and Gury, you know, they
were they were putting up numbers that we had never
seen before. And it is a much different league now.
But again, Gretzky is like if the basket was double
(08:38):
the size what it is today.
Speaker 6 (08:39):
But we also have to quantify the game is different
as far as physicality. Goalies going down to their knees, okay, fine,
but they're still highlights. You can go to where goalies
were still maybe not going down to their knees, but
we're splitting and kicking, you know, kicking the puck with
their leaves like the goalies today. Yeah, but not even
But once again, the game is not as physical. You
could play longer in today's game, and you can skate
a lot more. What are we talking about here. It's
(09:02):
the HL the boards and hitting guys in open ice
or way different. The game is just different. I'm not
gonna even say he you know, and by the less
physical than it used to be.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
In every score if you really want to go back
in time when it was a six team league, six
team league, where you think about it, you're playing the
same teams like fourteen times a year, twenty times.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
Originals, the original six, original six.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
And when you look at a Maurice Rochard at Gordy
Howe and they're scoring. In those days, no one had
ever had one hundred point season until expansion. It just
wasn't possible because of the physical nature of the Imagine
how I've always said this, You know, people say why
Geno Bill Russell was winning NBA championships in an eight
team league? All right, think about it right now, if
(09:45):
you were to reduce the NBA from thirty teams to eight,
how good would the personnel be on those eight teams?
Speaker 4 (09:52):
They'd be outstandards.
Speaker 6 (09:53):
It would be ridiculous, it'd be it'd be eight all
star teams. But that's also about Gretzkins, that that's what
it was in the NHL when you he had six teams.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
Later in his career with the Rangers.
Speaker 6 (10:03):
Also, remember guys towed those three years he led the
league in assists too, So even as an older player
where the league was different and goalies can go down
to their knees, he was still setting guys up to
score goals as an old guy. That was his thirty seven,
thirty six, thirty seven and thirty eight years old, Wayne
Gretzky was still leading the National Hockey.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
League Alexander Ofvechkins thirty nine and and was.
Speaker 6 (10:26):
Still exactly so think about it. It actually took him
an age. I don't know if it's a year as
far as the careers will go.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
I know the number of games almost to change.
Speaker 6 (10:35):
Retzky got in the NHL at eighteen, so I'm not
sure how that ate. Actually he was in the WHA
for a year. It's it's it's a great the way.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
They don't count that one year he had in the
WHA which then merged into the NHL the following year.
So that one year he had where he had a
phenomenal year in the WHA which merged into the NHL.
Speaker 6 (10:54):
They do not count those goals. Yeah, sixty four sists
that year in one hundred and ten points. So as
a at eighteen, at eighteen comes in and he just
drops off one hundred, yeah, one hundred and ten points
in sixty four since. But at the end of the day,
congratulations to Alex Novechkin. I grew up with a lot
of Capitol fans. I know they're they're happy. This is
a great thing to say. Look in sports, guys, records
(11:14):
just aren't always gonna stand there.
Speaker 4 (11:16):
They're meant to be broken. That's why they keep them.
Speaker 6 (11:19):
And sooner or later, someone's gonna break Peyton Manning or
I think it's Drew Brees for the most passing yards
in the season. Peyton man is touchdown passing yards for
a season, just like Tom Brady had.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
It and then it got broken.
Speaker 6 (11:29):
These records are midt to Ben Broke, just ingested take
it in on a beautiful Sunday morning. Alex Kovechkin Capitals, Congratulations, sir,
you are the man. You've been the man I've always
loved you as a player. Congratulations to him for being
now at eight What is it? Eight thirty five forty five,
eight thirty five, what's the record? Eight ninety excuse me?
(11:50):
Eight ninety five zarrowing in on.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
The big nine zero Well will be interesting to see
because he'll get it. We only have a few more
games in this regular season. You know, was he gonna
come back next year if he still had to get
the record?
Speaker 4 (12:01):
All right?
Speaker 1 (12:02):
On the other side, so well, Avetkin breaks Gretzky's record
A big positive in sports.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
We would be remiss if we didn't talk.
Speaker 1 (12:10):

Speaker 4 (13:17):
So yesterday VG was.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
Doing the show with Carrie Rhodes, who, even though he's
a Louisville guy, is a die hard Duke basketball fan.
Speaker 8 (13:25):
I said, how are you a Duke basketball fan? He
goes when I was talking, like another college when you
have when you know, especially one one from louis which
has such a great legacy in basketball.
Speaker 5 (13:36):
Right.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
But anyway, he tried to explain to me he fell
in love with Bobby Hurley of all people. I'm like,
Bobby Hurley made you a basketball fan. Anyway, So we're
at the end of the show, we're previewing the Florida
Auburn game was going on at that point where we're
previewing the Houston Doude thing. I asked, you nervous about anything?
He goes, well, yeah, the officiating that it won't get
(13:57):
all that physical. And I said, well, I'll tell you
what I would be nervous about if I was Duke.
If this is a close game at the end, because
Houston has been tested a couple of times in this tournament.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
And Duke is not.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
And if it's a close game, look out. And that's
what I said on the end of the show yesterday.
So you know, the game was going on, I wasn't
really paying attention. You know, Duke had like a nine
point lead. It didn't look like Easton had a whole
lot going for him. I know everyone's to talking about
a nine point lead with two minutes left, but think
about this. So the Houston kid gets called for the
technical for knocking the ball out of his hands on
(14:31):
the inbound pass. Duke makes the technical foul. Duke has
a six point lead thirty four seconds left and they
have the ball yep, And I'm watching And you know,
when we talk about choke jobs, I don't want to
put it so much on the players as I do.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
The coach John Shire, what are you doing.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
You have a kid that you continuously have in the
game to inbound the basketball and he has rattled big time,
and you've never changed. You kept him in a position
to make mistakes, which ultimately he did. And then at
the end, seventeen seconds left, seventeen seconds left, you call
(15:11):
a time out, You're down one and Cooper flagshot as
a fade away.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
What are you doing? Go to the basket?
Speaker 1 (15:21):
Be aggressive. John Schier butchered the end of that game.
Now he didn't get help from players that are missing
free toes, but their inability to change their scheme to
inbound the ball is all on the coach. This guy
failed his team miserably at the end of that game.
(15:45):
I'm happy for Calvin Sampson. I'm happy for these Houston Cougars.
Speaker 4 (15:49):
I'm picking them. I'm all going to say right now,
I'm going for them to upset the Gators. I'm hoping.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
You know, I really don't have obviously a horse in
the race, but I'm rooting for these Cougars.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
But that loss is right in the hands of John Shire.
Speaker 6 (16:03):
Well question well, you know me man, being the beloved
Tarhille fan, I am.
Speaker 5 (16:07):
I was.
Speaker 6 (16:08):
I'm having a great day. If anybody's wondering, if anybody's wondering,
how VJ. Verne Husk getting big vanilla funny is doing it.
Speaker 4 (16:13):
I'm doing great. When you just jumping up and down,
I mean I'm great.
Speaker 6 (16:17):
I'm not sen This beautiful day out here in Los
Angeles is sunny. It's gonna be eighty one degrees to
day in the beginning of April, when other parts of
the country it's coldest raining. There's still some snowfalling in
the Great Midwest up in the north. And it's beautiful
out here because to watch them crumble the way they
did yesterday. And I warned you all last week about Houston.
(16:38):
Houston hasn't played a great game yet. Houston hasn't play
You're right, but I told you, But the one thing they.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
Can do is defend. I said it to you, and
I said it to Prefet.
Speaker 6 (16:46):
When you can defend, you have a shot to win
any basketball game because defense travels just like football. Defense
in a running game travels in the NFL. In college football,
if you can run the football, if you can stop people,
that travels you. It's not just a home thing normally
at home, as people's like the role players played better
like the true freshman receiver plays a little better, the
(17:08):
true freshman safety, the five star corner plays a little
better and basketball is.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
The same way.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Man.
Speaker 6 (17:13):
But when you're in a neutral site in the NCAA tournament,
two things you must do, and that's defend and rebound.
And they out defended Duke yesterday, and they out rebounded
Duke yesterday.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
They got more aggressive on the glass.
Speaker 6 (17:26):
They held due to sixty seven points, and we marveled
how Duke defense shut down Alabama.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
And right, what did they do? They beat them on
the boards, and they defended.
Speaker 6 (17:38):
And I gave Shires prompts right here live on Fox
Sports Radio last week. I say, he's got them defending really, really,
really well. And yesterday Houston only scored seventy points. But
when you are first, second, third, and just about every
major statistical defensive category and the sport of basketball, My
great partner here, my illustrious co host to my left,
(17:59):
has been covering this stuff and stuff longer than me.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
He knows.
Speaker 6 (18:01):
I'm telling the truth. When you can defend, you got
a shot. And what they did yesterday in the second
half is they locked Duke down. Duke scored thirty four
points in the first half. They scored thirty three points
in the second half of their sixty seven points. Meanwhile,
Houston scored twenty eight but then put up forty two
in the second half. Duke's defense was still there, but
the Houston Cougar's defense is just that much better. And
(18:24):
I think also too, I think the way I watched
this game, I said, you know what they look like.
This looks like the Greg Popovich technique. And I'll explain
that to you guys.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
Remember when Lebron was going.
Speaker 6 (18:34):
Ballistic on the Spurs after the year where Ray Allen
hit the three the following year where Lebron's going like
just ballistic andever look what he's doing to the Spurs.
Papovich was like, yeah, we're gonna let Lebron get his
We're just gonna stop everybody else because you can't stop Lebron.
Not that Lebron, this Lebron today, Yeah you can stop that.
Guy'm covering the Lacaus. I say it up close to
(18:56):
personal three nights a week. But that Lebron you couldn't stop.
You can't stop with you at twenty seven, seven and
five or something with like he was balling. Now you
should have had thirty. And I'm a big on Cooper
a little bit right now, too, because if you're that
guy National Player of the Year, ACC Player of the Year,
I get your coach did not help you down the stretch,
but that fadeaway shot, You've got to have a go
(19:17):
to move. I said the same thing about Wagner from Arkansas.
I like that kid, but he doesn't have an Okay,
I need a bucket.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
This is my move.
Speaker 6 (19:26):
I practiced five hundred times a day with a thousand
shots in the off season.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
I'm going to this move.
Speaker 6 (19:31):
I'm getting to that spot because I know if I
can get here, I'm getting this bucket. A fallaway jumper
from Cooper Flag was almost like, bro, put your head down.
You've been you've been beasting on these guys, and now
you get soft.
Speaker 4 (19:45):
You know what that's called.
Speaker 6 (19:45):
You know what that's called Hartman, That's called the the
device tightening. Baby, that's the grips, that's the moment, that's
the pressure. And we found out they Duke had a
great year, but they don't have those guys that could
just take you through those moments.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
The Houston Cooper's well, one question that comes out of
this game is what's next for Cooper Flag. By the way,
Cooper Flag, how about this staff. From last night's game,
he had twenty seven points, seven rebounds, four assists, three blocks,
two seals. He was the first player to ever lead
his team in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks in
(20:20):
a Final Four game since defensive stats became official in
nineteen eighty six. So he literally made history last night.
No one's going to remember any of that. All they're
going to remember is a shot that he took that
barely brushed the front of the rim because he's falling
away and he was falling away instead of being aggressive
going to the movie or down one. I was going
to say, if it was a two point game, a
(20:42):
three point game, it's a one point game. And you know,
he was saying, it's exactly what we drew up in
the hut, online everything else.
Speaker 4 (20:49):
But they didn't draw the fight away this. They didn't
draw a fight away. Lbs.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
No one is going to remember. And this is the
power of the NCAA tournament. No one's going to remember
the Cooper Flag won the Wooden Award. No one's going
to remember unanimous American. This is the legacy. That shot
is the legacy of Cooper Flag of Duke if he
indeed leaves, which he I'll he should, he's gone. He's
gonna make the big money in the NBA. I don't
(21:13):
know if a lot of NBA people are going to
look at this like, no, was that. But that's the
problem because of.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
The absolutely not care guy. Look, you know you asked
Larry Bird.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
Larry Bird still hasn't gotten over losing the magic in
Michigan state of the game.
Speaker 4 (21:30):
And magic Magic won't let him, He will not let him.
He goes was That's when we know we have back
and forth to the Lakers Celtics, but that was one day,
one game.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
You were undefeated, you were three three in a row.
I got you lost, and I got that forever. And
Larry Bird admits I've never gotten over that and there
was no way I can undo that. So that will
be the Cooper flag legacy in his one year of
Duke is that final shot.
Speaker 4 (21:54):
It won't be a legacy though. It's just like Zion.
Remember the year Zion was going to be all work
for you didn't even make the final day, lost the Eliteate.
Speaker 6 (22:00):
They lost an eliteate, the Michigan State and tom Izzo
so and guess what, No.
Speaker 4 (22:04):
One tedur is a bigger state nothing that Zion did it.
Speaker 6 (22:07):
Dude, we don't discuss all the dunks, all the Highland,
we don't discuss nothing. We don't even talk about his
shoe exploding in the Carolina game. We don't talk about
that stuff because that's not One year is not going
to leave you a legacy unless your Carmel and Anthony
the Fab five or Anthony David Hooper.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
You to go win it as a freshman to have
a legacy.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
And Cooper Flag had the opportunity to join Mellow and
Anthony Davis at least place wars star freshmen who actually
led their teams to national champions.
Speaker 6 (22:33):
But he didn't even get to the game. Yeah, like
Dale's guy, like the Fat Five didn't win it, but
they got their get to.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
The game with the shot ball in his hands, shot
to win the game, and he barely brushed the front
of the rim. All right, let's find out what is
trending right now. And Manzi very excited about Alexavechkin's historic
day today.
Speaker 9 (22:55):
Absolutely no, That's what I'm gonna be talking about that
all day.
Speaker 4 (22:58):
In fact, in case you missed the right side of
Wilson shattered up.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
Oh that has any stars The Stars Plex, Sodastan Star,
Saint ninety five Shadow Gold Starring Champion, and his name
he's Alex Sander.
Speaker 4 (23:18):
Oh gotch Daner.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
He has doun it here on Going Island.
Speaker 4 (23:24):
His teammates by them. There is but one Alex Sander,
the greats the.
Speaker 10 (23:31):
Greatest demand in National Hockey League history.
Speaker 9 (23:36):
You just heard on the Capitol's radio network. It happened
in the second period. They paused the game, did a
whole celebration when Gretzky spoke and said, I would be
the first one to shake your hand, and he did. Also,
Wayne Gretzky said, I don't He said, I know records
are meant to be broken. I don't see anyone breaking
this one, is what.
Speaker 11 (23:57):
He thinks, Swayne Gretzky. So, I mean it's a while.
Speaker 6 (24:00):
Is a gentleman up in Edmonton that had a chance
to cover into kings Orler serious layer at Cryptostia by
the name of Connors.
Speaker 4 (24:07):
Yeah, it's still it's so tough to do. I get it.
Speaker 12 (24:10):
He's got a long way to go, you know what
I mean, anything can happen, but if there's a guy
to go get.
Speaker 9 (24:15):
It, absolutely absolutely, there's still you know, it's still.
Speaker 4 (24:20):
Sport guys.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
I mean just just the ability to play this sport
twenty seasons, uh and maintain a high level absolutely like.
Speaker 4 (24:28):
The super super superstars. New in any sport.
Speaker 9 (24:31):
Is his mind boggling and so impressive that he's been
with one team and one team only, Like, that's pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
That's so.
Speaker 13 (24:37):
That's that's the that's the baby, that's the Duncan, that's
the stir That's why we love those guys and we
hold them up like, bro, he did it for twenty
one squad.
Speaker 4 (24:48):
Yeah he didn't run.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
Now, now you're making Evanton oiler fans cry because Gretzky
left for.
Speaker 4 (24:53):
L a well and they blamed his wife. It was
I mean.
Speaker 11 (24:58):
To say, that's on the oil office exactly.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
Now.
Speaker 9 (25:02):
The Capitals are losing though, and this came to the Islanders.
It's three to one, very late in the second period.
We'll move on to Major League Baseball. Tyler Glass now
has been pulled from the game for the Dodgers.
Speaker 11 (25:14):
It's the third inning. It looked like he was pulled.
Speaker 9 (25:17):
Yes, let's say let him back out, but it looked
like he was pulled with the bases loaded. Philly has
tied the game on a wild pitch by Tyler Glass.
Speaker 11 (25:25):
Now they also got had none of this, did have
a two run homer.
Speaker 4 (25:28):
So it's two to two.
Speaker 9 (25:29):
Phillies and Dodgers bottom of the third again, bases loaded
for Philadelphia Nationals edging the Diamondbacks three to two. Also
bottom of the third. The Pirates have taken the lead
from the Yankees two to one. Bottom of the third
as well. Cardinals and Red Sox are in a double header.
Speaker 11 (25:43):
Top of the fourth. They are scoreless in game one.
Speaker 9 (25:46):
White Sox up on the Tigers two to one, also
top of the fourth, just like the Blue Jays and
the Mets, who have scored.
Speaker 11 (25:51):
It's two zero. New York up Royals blanking the Orioles
three zero.
Speaker 9 (25:55):
Top of the second. Bottom of the second, Reds, Brewers scoreless.
Astros and Twins have tied the game. Bottom of the first.
It's one to one and the Padres looks like they
have the bases loaded.
Speaker 11 (26:05):
They're up on the Cubs to zero.
Speaker 9 (26:07):
Top of the first inning and starting soon in about
thirty or so minutes, YU con tating on South Carolina
in the NCAA Women's National Championship.
Speaker 11 (26:17):
Tip Off is at three eastern. Sorry about UCLA, Oh.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
Well, I'll get into that in a moment. Ugh, oh
is beyond right page. Beckers was their fourth leading score.
Speaker 6 (26:30):
That was the whole thing, right base, Beckers were their
fourth leading freshman.
Speaker 4 (26:34):
Flood fishman first of all fun and just she hit everything. Yeah,
I mean it was even.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
The thing about that game was Gino Arima was almost
as flabbergacid as UCLA was after the game just how
well his team played. He goes, Yeah, I mean, we
felt confident going into this game, but if you were
to tell me we're going to beat the number one
ranked team in the country by thirty four points, thirty
four points biggest margin invade. There have been one hundred
and thirty one and women's final four NCAA Tournament games.
(27:04):
Biggest margin of victory ever and on the men's side,
it also was a thirty four point win before Magic
Johnson and Michigan State b Larry Bird. They paid pen
the IVY League schools A nine seats, snuck into the
final four.
Speaker 4 (27:16):
They lose by thirty four, but this was a number
one ranked.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
Team in the country, and wow, I mean, I mean
it just you know, it was a perfect storm where
Yukon just shot the ball crazy played out of their minds.
As you said, Page Beckers was like third and fourth
leading scorer on the team, uh you know, and for
UCLA and Lauren Betts had twenty six points the best
team at twenty five.
Speaker 4 (27:41):
It just was one of those days, all right.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
By the way, that women's championship game will be tipping
off here at the top of the hour, so we'll
definitely be watching, which should be a tremendous matchup something
defending champions South Carolina taken on Yukon looking for the
first title. By the way, in quiet a while, and
Geno ari Ema says, it's on me the fact that
we have had to wait this long for an opportunity
to win a championship.
Speaker 6 (28:03):
He says, it's on me. I get what he's saying,
but I don't like that. Let's just give you know,
props to your favorite female coach, Mulchy down at LSU. Yeah,
and then and then let's also give props to mss
don Staley, who has been able to uh, you know,
put together and resurrect a program that meant absolutely nothing
to women's college basketball until she got there and turned
(28:26):
that thing around. So let's it's it's not on you.
It's just that that d'An tony, you couldn't really coach
that well. But there's one thing he used to always
say when he just didn't have an answer for our
reporter or our journalists or somebody, he would just look
at him and go, sometimes the other team's good. Sometimes
the other guys really good guys. Like we're doing we're
doing what we can. I don't have an excuse to
(28:46):
give you. Guys, it's Kobe, what do you?
Speaker 5 (28:49):
What do you? What do you?
Speaker 6 (28:49):
What do you expect me to do in the fourth quarter?
You want me to put all five guys on him.
I can't do that. Sometimes other people in your business
and your careerer, your industry is just good.
Speaker 4 (28:59):
I feel what he says. It's not all on him.
Speaker 6 (29:01):
There's been some other women that Baylor's got one, nor
to Dame one one with a buzzer beater for national championship.
There's just been some other programs. Listen, this is the
great thing about women's college basketball. It's getting spread across
because for about fifteen years, it was what Gino and
who pat ms pat rip to the great pass on
it was them too. If you got Kannas Parker you
(29:22):
were winning. If you got Rebecca Lobo, you were winning.
And if you got Super you win. If you got
the two top girls or the top girl, you were winning.
It now is more spread off feel them though, But
I'll say South Carolina today, Don Stale was gonna win
that thing.
Speaker 4 (29:32):
Really.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
Oh yeah, I'm going to cun okay, I mean I
have to. I mean that a way they handle my bruins.
By the way, we're live from the Tyraq dot Com

to our Fox Sports Radio videos on YouTube. One of
the big questions about the Ladies NCAA tournament this year
is where's the audience after the defection of Caitlin Clark.
And the numbers are not good. The numbers have been
way down from what we saw. Remember last year's championship
game on the ladies' side between South Carolina and Iowa
(30:17):
blew away.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
The numbers of the men's championship game. I mean blew
them away. That will not be the case this year.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
We obviously have a great matchup to one seeds with
Houston and Florida on the ladies' side is another tremendous matchup.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
I mean, these are the two schools coming into the season.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
All eyes are on you know, Page Beckers decides to
come back for a fifth year. She had missed that
full season and obviously put Yukon right back on the map.
As far as winning a national championship. South Carolina Defenny
champions But the ratings right now VJ are not great
at all. And so this constant argument against the value
of Kaitlin Claky, it just doesn't make sense. Recognize this
(30:56):
is so rare a Tiger Woods, a Michael Jordan. The
NBA has never come close to the ratings they had
when Michael Jordan was winning championships. Look at the ratings
for those NBA finals in the nineties. They obliterate anything
before or since. Of course, Tiger Woods anytime in a major,
(31:17):
I mean double triple, quadruple the audience when he was
in contention for major golf championships. And that's the same
about Kaitlin Clark. Why it's not a matter of why.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
It just is.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
Kaitln Clark is a phenomenon, and she alone generated all
this insane extra interest in women's basketball.
Speaker 4 (31:39):
It is a fact.
Speaker 6 (31:41):
I listen, man, you was cooking at first, but right
now you're not even boiling water for some oodles.
Speaker 4 (31:45):
Why is that we've cooking for?
Speaker 6 (31:46):
Because you and I we had this discussion last year,
you and I said in it's very same studio with
Monsei doing the updates.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
How are you get angel Resa credit?
Speaker 6 (31:54):
No, I'm not gonna give angel resaw to credit, but
you're not gonna sit here and give Kaylee clark on
the credit.
Speaker 4 (31:58):
You guys are just glossing over what it really was.
We're powerful.
Speaker 6 (32:01):
We're part of the media. Okay, I throw my hands up.
I'm part of the media too. I used to say, Oh,
I'm not part of the media. I'm a radio guard.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
Arm no VJ.
Speaker 6 (32:07):
You're part of the media because you do sports talk radio.
You cover the NFL, the NHL to MLB in national
basketball associations, so you're.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
Part of the media.
Speaker 6 (32:14):
There was a story and an image created. Whenever you
have good guy versus bad guy, it is going to sell.
Speaker 4 (32:20):
People are gonna.
Speaker 6 (32:20):
Tune in the NBA got saved by this. We're trying
to act like that this is not the case. And
I'm not gonna sit here and do that. I'm not
gonna throw no other cards in it. I just know
if the media creates good guy versus bad guy, people
are going to pick sides and tune in.
Speaker 4 (32:36):
Why do you think sports talk TV is so bad?
Right now? What's the number one main topic every day?
Speaker 5 (32:40):
Guys?
Speaker 6 (32:40):
Everybody knows Lebron versus Jordan. So you create a good
guy and you create a bad guy, and you're throwing
out there, and as Americans, we are going to dive
in head first.
Speaker 4 (32:51):
It is what it is.
Speaker 6 (32:52):
And this year there was no good guy bad guys story.
So then people said, oh, well, I'm not that interesting that.
We love conflict, we love violence, we love guns, we
love the termoid. Why do you do reality TV and
people throwing drinks on each other and fighting and stuf?
Why do you think that stuff so popular? You look
at it and go, I don't watch this crap? But
guess what, though, Steve, somebody does. Because it's still on eve.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
Why was there a conflict?
Speaker 1 (33:16):
See you're saying there was a conflict, Okay, you had
this whole dynamic between LSU, Angel Reese Iowa and Kaylen Clark.
What was the conflict conflict was is that Kaylan Clark
was getting so much attention, so much attention, she was
breaking records, They were putting her in the In the
conversation with Pete Marrivitch, there was a jealousy factor against
(33:37):
Kayln Clark, this girl from the Midwest, that it blew
people away, and all of a sudden, the rest of
the basketball world on the lady's side, said why is
she getting so much attention?
Speaker 9 (33:48):
Why?
Speaker 6 (33:50):
And then they started creating all This is exactly what happens.
Speaker 4 (33:54):
It started is nuts.
Speaker 6 (33:57):
It started with Angel reeson, none started with the john
Sen and the Tony think we'll touch on with listen, right, let's.
Speaker 4 (34:05):
Agree to let's agree to disagreement. We're not going to
agree on that.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
Well, I get here's what we can't agree on. Without that,
the women's ratings are going to be down.
Speaker 4 (34:11):
It's unfortunately because we have great players on the court,
you know, pagebackers. I mean, these are great players.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
They deserve the attention, but without Kaitlin Clark alone, they
will not get it. We continue on here as we
get ready for that women's championship game.
Speaker 4 (34:26):
We got much more.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
Oh that's right, still some NFL news less than three
weeks away from the draft. This is Fox Sports Sunday.
Speaker 4 (34:35):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio Radio.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Steve Harman, VJ Husky Fox Sports Sunday. We're live from
the tire rack dot Com studios. By the way, calm
the chaos with the shipping software that delivers use the
code sports for a free trial at shipstation dot com.
That's ship station dot com Code Sports. Well, little chaos
(34:59):
going on here, but well that's part for the course.
Here with Hartman and Husky. Shae, our producer, has found
something here. So we again we've been talking about and
certainly VJ has been hammering the point that what's lacking
this year on the lady's side is just that good
versus bad, right, the matchup of you know again a
(35:23):
versus Kaylyn call.
Speaker 4 (35:24):
You need that kind of narrative.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
But we do have something going on right now on
the on the lady side, and it involves your great
coach in South Carolina, Don Staley and Paige Becker's the
superstar of Yukon.
Speaker 4 (35:40):
So give us the background here, Shaye what's going on.
Speaker 14 (35:43):
Yeah, So basically Don Staley was in a press conference
yesterday where she was asked basically, this is this is
a quick point. There was a really long question. So
much like last season in the Iowahawkeyes with Kaitlyn Clark,
there's a sense that more attention is being paid to
the other team instead of really the South Carolina game
Cocks because of the certain player and not necessarily the
(36:06):
impressive run. So Don Staley actually responded to this and
this was the exact quote.
Speaker 4 (36:12):
Wilsh.
Speaker 15 (36:13):
You know, sometimes we create these narratives about great players.
Caitlyn was one of them. Page is one of them
right now, and we tend to forget the narrative about
what our kids have been able to do.
Speaker 11 (36:29):
And going for their third in four years.
Speaker 15 (36:34):
So there's a sentimental narrative about Page, great freaking player,
like anybody would start their franchise with Page because of
her efficient way of playing, because of her she's a winner,
(36:54):
and she'll be the number one pick in the WNBA draft,
and she'll be an Olympian, she will be all of
those things.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
Right, But when you put a.
Speaker 15 (37:02):
Narrative out there, everybody sees that and it puts It
puts us at a disadvantage, whether you want to believe
so or not. You know, official seed, you know it's
all over TikTok is all over Sports Center is all over.
Speaker 2 (37:18):
All of that.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
Let me ask you this, s fee Jay, Sure, and
let's go.
Speaker 1 (37:23):
I don't want to I don't want to accuse, but
I mean, there just seems to be a racial overtone
in this whole thing.
Speaker 6 (37:28):
Well, here's the thing, all right, and I if okay, fine,
let's dive into it. If you're asking me, then you
know it could be that you've been around, Steve, you've
been around long enough. Yes, all right, you've covered sports
long enough. You've seen a lot. Man, you've seen a
lot more than a lot of people here at Fox
Sports Radio. If we're gonna talk my whole thing about
when this topic comes up and we're gonna talk about it,
let's just be honest and talk about it. That's my
(37:49):
thing we're gonna talk about. If we're not gonna be
real about it, don't bring it to me. Don't bring
it to me that that ticks me off, that piss
me off really really bad. If we're gonna talk about it, though,
let's talk about it. This is still America. This is
still a country we live in where there's still a
social divide and economic divide, and educational divide and academian
divide in a race divide. The media plays into this
(38:12):
stuff a lot. We gotta stop acting like we don't
see this. What she's saying is one hundred percent true.
But she's not trying to blast or hate on page
Beaker's as she just called her a great freaking player
number one overall. Any franchise is gonna draft her. She's
gonna be an Olympic which coach Tale is probably gonna
coach on one of those Olympia Olympic teams. She's not
(38:33):
putting it on the girl, just like last year. She
want to put it on Caitlin Clark. She's talking about
the same thing I said, the narrative that's put out there.
And you talk about even a school like Duke where
they had their years where what was the thing about Duke?
You don't want to go play in cameeron? Why because
you're not gonna get calls. They're they're they're the they're
the they're the good American, good old boys. They're the
(38:53):
great white Eyed team, and it just is what when
you go back to Hurlan, you go back to the
Laytoner and those.
Speaker 4 (38:57):
Guys like it just is what it is.
Speaker 6 (39:00):
I know it's an uncomfortable conversation, and we don't like
having uncomfortable conversations. I just think that they're needed. When
someone liked this, who is going for her third and
four years, deserves to be able to say and bring
on it. We're going to talk about it. So to
answer your question, is there racial undertone tour? Absolutely, But
that's because that's the world and the country we live
in and I'm not going to try to act like
(39:21):
I live anywhere different.
Speaker 4 (39:22):
As simple as that, Well, let me give you a
quick story.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
The famous Texas Western team that won the National Championship
at nineteen sixty six Glory Roads.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
They made the movie about it.
Speaker 1 (39:31):
First NCAA champion has start five black players and they
end up beating the all white Kentucky team in the
championship game. You know where there was no mention of
race was the immediate aftermath of that game. I have
checked many newspaper accounts of that game leading up to
the championship game and after the championship game. Sports Illustrated
obviously had a cover story in the game.
Speaker 6 (39:50):
Race was never mentioned, maybe because they didn't want to
mention it because height of the civil rights movement.
Speaker 1 (39:56):
Yeah, but and that's probably why I was because it's
far high. How this has gone to that to where
we are today. It's offensive, But I know her play is,
like you say, she's going to make sure the officials
aren't going to do any favors to the other side.
And that's a smart play by a very smart coach,
Jackson Staley.
Speaker 4 (40:16):
And we got some NFL news coming up. This is
Fox Sports Sunday.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
Rolling along here on a record setting championship Sunday.
Speaker 4 (40:25):
Wow, huge day in the world of sports. This is
Fox Sports Sunday.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
We're broadcasting live from the ti rack dot Com studios
tyraq dot com. We're gonna help get you there in
a matched selection fast ree shipping, free road as a

the way tire buying should be. Right before we went
on the air, Alex Ovechkin broke the record eight ninety
five all time leader in career goals scored. Wing Gretzky
(40:51):
on hand to congratulate of Vechkin in overtaking his record.
And now we are ready to tip off this Ladies
Championship game between South Carolina Yukon. This is a battle
of heavyweights, two of the all time great coaches. Don
Stale obviously Gino Arima twenty four final fours for a yeah, I.
Speaker 4 (41:10):
Mean the twenty four.
Speaker 1 (41:12):
But the guy's great, by the way, you know what
he said, So he was they were talking about, you know,
all right, so this year twenty fourth final four. He goes, yeah,
think about this. So we've won eleven championships. That means
twelve times that we got to the final four, we
didn't win the championship, which means I actually have a
losing record in the final four. This is Geno rim
(41:36):
you know, down plays like you know, I mean again,
for most coaches, one trip to a final four one
makes a career.
Speaker 4 (41:45):
But he was almost in jest.
Speaker 1 (41:46):
He actually looked pretty seriously, you know, with all this
buzz and everything, the fact is I have a losing
record in final fource.
Speaker 4 (41:54):
We won eleven championships twelve times. We know what I
don't like about it? You know, I don't like Gino.
I don't like you. I'm not as you know. God,
I don't. I don't like. I don't like.
Speaker 6 (42:02):
I don't like fake humbleness. Really yeah, I don't like
fake humbleness. That guy's arrogant. Just look at that guy.
That guy's is airy. Okay, that guy's as arrogant as
they come. He's he's he's very we're not talking about
past summit though, we're talking about Geno right now. He's
very smug, and you know he says these things. It's
(42:24):
it's it's so cringey. It's oh yeah, people talking about
my success. I have a losing well when you if
you get there twenty four times, bro, and you only
have a certain amount of championships, that means you lost
some of them.
Speaker 4 (42:34):
I mean, we get it, Gino, But come on, dude,
like it's over.
Speaker 6 (42:38):
It's okay, in my opinion, to patch yourself on the
back and walk around with your head up and your
chest out because society tells us not to do that,
tell you to walk around all diceile in this fake
world and humble that so out.
Speaker 4 (42:48):
If I'm great at something, it's.
Speaker 6 (42:50):
Okay for me to appreciate how great I've been, how
hard I work, how much I bust my ass, how
much I put into coaching this program and build not
just he just help build women's college basketball. Him and
Pat some half, they've helped build it. It's okay to
just say, well, you know, you know, we we don't
win all the time, but I want enough.
Speaker 4 (43:09):
To know what it feels like. I wish my record
was a little different, but just oh yeah, I have
to record. All right, all right, come on, come on,
come on. Look at first of all, when you talk about.
Speaker 1 (43:20):
Egos college basketball coaches, successful college basketball coaches have some
of the biggest egos of all time because they are
the stars of the sport.
Speaker 4 (43:29):
And I'm okay with that. Yes, so don't be fake humble.
By the way, one of my favorites was Mike Krzyzewski.
All right, Coach K.
Speaker 1 (43:34):
By the way, do you see his smug look throughout
the end of that game. There's a guy that hates
you just want to punch him. But I mean, but
here's the thing. So again I've talked about when Pat
O'Brien and I were doing our national show here. Pat
was a dear friend of Coach K and he would
he would just call him and say, you want to
come on the show. We must add him on half
a dozen times, and he was such a pill every
(43:57):
time we've got him on. I got him one time
really good though, really I was. It was right after
he broke Bob Knight's record most wins on the men's side, right,
So I said on the air, I go, hey, coach,
congratulations passing Bob Knight on the all time list. Uh
do you think now you can ever catch Pat Summits yet?
Speaker 4 (44:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (44:16):
And silence on the other line. Then he finally said,
probably not. I gotta give you another coach. I love
knocking down that e guy. I love You'll give you
another coach.
Speaker 6 (44:25):
Super aer smug like almost rude, but he didn't have
fake homewers and that's Nick Saban.
Speaker 10 (44:31):
But my whole thing is show me the just show
me who you are. I can take who you are.
Who you're rap out of you. When they would win
a championship used to drum me. He's like, he's like, yeah,
he's a jerk.
Speaker 4 (44:44):
He's a he is, but a jerk.
Speaker 13 (44:48):
What do you do?
Speaker 6 (44:48):
Yeah, but but I know who I'm dealing with. Don't
like passive aggressive is one of my one of my
personal traits. I just stay away from I don't like
passive aggressive people. I just have you got something to
Let me tell you, Phil Jackson was the war if
you want to exactly, but it is. I mean, just
be who you are. I don't have a problem with it.
When Nick Saban what he did to Maria Taylor for
that one breaking dead? Do you remember the year they
(45:10):
beat the year they beat Texas? He gets mad because
his kids don't gator raid on him. You just won
the national championship. These are eighteen, nineteen and some twenty
year old young men that parents haven't trusted you to
be a father figure and raise these guys up disrespect.
Let me ask you this, how many times do you
see guys go to the league and have these sit
downs and praise what Nick Saban was sit him?
Speaker 4 (45:32):
How many times? Top n I mean, yeah, let me
tell you something. Let me tell you something.
Speaker 1 (45:37):
By the way, it was even that way to school
right then that way with John Wooden, you know when
when they played would I watched a group of interview
once where coach Wooden was sitting there the players and
Ken Washington was like their six man on their first
championship teams.
Speaker 4 (45:52):
He was asked flat out so what was it like
to play for coach Wooden?
Speaker 2 (45:55):
What it is?
Speaker 4 (45:56):
Sitting right next to him, he goes, it was hell.
It was hell. Did you win?
Speaker 1 (46:02):
But you know, then the years later and then all
the other players, like one guy said, okay, yeah it
was hell. But all these years we really appreciate you
know what he was all about life lessons and everything else.
Speaker 6 (46:13):
We hear this all what players say about about are
they not be honest? Are they not happy? Sometimes they
get out of there. Tom Brady got out of there.
Tom Brady got out of there. Gronk got out of there,
and Gronk said, you know, you know it's tough. You know,
it's a I feel like I can have fun now.
Speaker 1 (46:30):
Like I remember Tom Brady after the Tampa Bay and
he's throwing, you know, he's drunk out of.
Speaker 4 (46:35):
His mind between the boats, throwing, throwing, throwing the bag.
Speaker 6 (46:38):
Belichick would have frowned, and it's and it's just and
it's the parade for winning the Super Bowl. He would
have frowned on Tom Brady being drunk and throwing the
football to fit they're throwing the.
Speaker 4 (46:50):
Trophy. But so Bro, all the.
Speaker 6 (46:53):
Sweat and tears and camp and mini camp and OTAs
and training and eating right and laying off with sugar
and not drinking soda, the stuff it takes to be
a football player. And this one day we get to
the pinnacle and I can't enjoy to have fun. Man,
bleep you dude. I'll keep playing and I got a contract.
But when I get out of here, oh my, tell all,
(47:14):
book is going to be you.
Speaker 1 (47:15):
Why are these guys so successful and ladies are so
successful if they are perceived as being jerkish in their
personality and yet the record.
Speaker 4 (47:26):
I mean because they're good at what the well, that's
the whole point. I mean.
Speaker 6 (47:29):
You can only judge coaching on wins and losses. You
don't have to be a jerk. Though Dean Smith was
never tabled that Roy Williams was never tabbed that.
Speaker 4 (47:37):
Dean Smith had his moments.
Speaker 1 (47:39):
Asked coach K early in his career when he came
on the scene, he'll tell you about Dean Smith.
Speaker 6 (47:44):
Well, I won't tell you about Dean now now, now
you're treading in dirty water.
Speaker 4 (47:48):
How about Roy Williams and me? How about Roy Williams?
You play for him?
Speaker 1 (47:51):
You know, I met the man Ma Bonnie Bernstein after
they lost Kansas lost man.
Speaker 4 (47:57):
He goes, I don't know what they're telling you in
your ear. I had to say that. The Nick Saban
stood it off. It proved later that he became the
North Carolina coach.
Speaker 6 (48:05):
And now and Nick Saban stood right there, I don't
know what else you want me to tell you, guys,
I'm not taking the FN Alabama job. And two days
later he was the Alabama head coach. Yes, come on,
they have to I don't listen. I don't not coaches
for that. They have to say that, Steve, they don't
have Yes, they say this, they do business wise, okay,
business wise?
Speaker 4 (48:22):
How did it look afterwards?
Speaker 1 (48:24):

Speaker 4 (48:54):
Detractors supply, by the way, I picked Duke of to
win it all.
Speaker 1 (48:57):
Even if they had, I had a Duke Florida Championship
game and Duke winning it all, I still wouldn't have
won our brackets. So I was happy Duke loss. I'm
not a Duke fan by any stretching the imagination. I'll
tell you who was happy though about that Duke game me.
Speaker 4 (49:11):
It was Ian I and our producer. Yeah, I know
he has Houston. He has Houston winning the whole thing. Oh,
he picked he had it all.
Speaker 1 (49:19):
And in fact, yesterday I was talking to me, he goes, yeah,
the problem is I have Houston winning at all, so
I have a very remote chance to win this thing.
Speaker 4 (49:26):
Wow, that actually picked Houston smart win it one overall
team in the tournament.
Speaker 1 (49:31):
Well, they have the longest winning streak in the country,
and they have proven over and over and over again,
close games do not bother them.
Speaker 4 (49:38):
They will come up with.
Speaker 6 (49:39):
Plays they're going to defend. They're going to have to defend.
Clayton junior man, Remember me tell you about how few
weeks ago this kid is he's the best player in
the tournament. Well, he's an NBA Not only that, he's
an NBA guard. This kid's gonna play in the league
for ten to twelve years. He's a bona fide. Well
that's what I love. I mean, Auburn was up eight.
You know, Broom was playing well, they were doing a
lot of things. Well, you're not gonna be on Bruce
Pearl like banal Shire.
Speaker 4 (50:01):
No, because Clayton just absolutely shot him out the game.
Speaker 1 (50:03):
I mean, when you have a kid in collect time,
we're just gonna give you the ball and he's just
knocking down shot thirty four points.
Speaker 4 (50:11):
Come on.
Speaker 6 (50:12):
So Cooper Flag wasn't watching too bad. Cooper Flag wasn't
watching him that game was first Well, Cooper Flag was
playing great until the last minute.
Speaker 4 (50:20):
That was the whole point.
Speaker 1 (50:22):
But he had that big three when that put him
up what nine, and he thought, well, okay, that's the
back breaker right there.
Speaker 4 (50:27):
Good good analogy right here.
Speaker 6 (50:28):
Uh willis free right the whole entry getting No, I'm
right up to watch okay, right believe man. And growing
up I thought he had a monster game. When they could,
they would just show him Limp exactly.
Speaker 1 (50:41):
You know how the Monster game, Walt Frazer six game
seventy eight up Jerryaxley.
Speaker 6 (50:46):
But the point I'm making is as a kid growing up,
I didn't hear the Walt Fraser stuff. It allows about
nineteen twenty years sold.
Speaker 1 (50:53):
Think about that game seven NBA Finals, thirty six points
nineteen soon because they just keep shutting the best defensive guard,
the catch to.
Speaker 6 (51:00):
Turn around jumper from their free and then and then
the live That's all they showed you. But he didn't,
like you said, two shots.
Speaker 4 (51:06):
What do we remember from that game? Well, that's it
because again how he actually I was closed? How you
closed the game. There's no reason that guy should have
been on the court. Made Jordan's so great?
Speaker 6 (51:16):
Yeah, it was all the accolades, but when when when
the when the money was on the table, Steve and
you gave the ball to twenty three and white or red?
What was happening Steve for about fifteenth straight or what
was happening Steve?
Speaker 4 (51:27):
He was closing it.
Speaker 1 (51:28):
That's why Jordan's Jordan's yes, And that's why I used
to get on Kobe a lot. And I can only
say this because I had a special relation.
Speaker 4 (51:36):
I mean I used to. I used to.
Speaker 1 (51:38):
I used to say, you know, if you saw Camarlo
and Anthony got rightfully first about by the way, can
I go on another tie?
Speaker 4 (51:45):
Rade on the mascot?
Speaker 1 (51:47):
I told people, He told people balance he is, yeah,
in the basketball Hall of them. Why are we gonna
have an NBA Hall of Fame? Well, I mean no,
knock on, Sue Bird maya more. You know that's great.
Speaker 4 (51:58):
Uh, pro football hall Fame too.
Speaker 1 (52:00):
We have a Pro Football Hall of Fame. We have
a college football Hall of Fame. You know, we have
a women's basketball Hall of Fame. We have an International
Basketball Hall of Fame, we have a college basketball Hall
of Fame.
Speaker 4 (52:13):
We do not have an NBA Hall of Fame.
Speaker 1 (52:16):
They have to share the stage with people that have
already been inducted in other basketball halls of fame. Why
is that, Well, because the NBA not have their own
Hall of Like Billy Donovan gets into the Hall of Fame, right,
well's certainly not based on his NBA coaching. Yeah, that
one was weird because he's a college coach. He got
elected to the Hall of Fame because he won back
(52:37):
to back national championships for final fours in Florida.
Speaker 4 (52:40):
He's a college.
Speaker 1 (52:41):
Basketball that I don't rock with. But you look at
him like, well, he's ten years as an NBA coach.
Speaker 4 (52:47):
Has he ever done nothing? He's been playoffs? What three
out of five years? He's been handing some good teams. Well,
the first year was his best year at OKC. When
he was handed the keys to a four. I was
about to say he was born on third base there.
Speaker 1 (53:00):
Exactly all right, we continue on. We still we got
to get some NFL talk here. We're watching the start
of the Ladies Championship game between South Carolina and Yukon.
Speaker 4 (53:09):
We'll update you on that. And is there going to
be a.
Speaker 1 (53:12):
Decision on Aaron Rodgers' future before the draft, which is
less than three weeks away. We'll have the answer. This
is Fox Sports Sunday.
Speaker 4 (53:21):
Well, there you go.
Speaker 1 (53:22):
Hachkin, the big Russian. Yes, is still the all time
lady goal scorer in NHL history.
Speaker 4 (53:29):
Did respute in coming back earlier in Moscow? Steve? Do
you know why I know this song? Rocky four? Exactly good?
Speaker 6 (53:39):
This is the last fight against the drag and they
do his national and and he had the big picture
of him coming up out of the ground and yeah,
this is the only male.
Speaker 4 (53:47):
I knew what you were. What is it? Oh, this
is the Russian nather Anthony, because I don't well, I
don't know if the Russian Federation has a different national No,
you're right, you're right're right, you're right. It's a model.
Speaker 1 (54:01):
Once again, this is Fox Sports Sunday, Steve Harbin Vja
Husky with you. We are live from the tire rack
dot Com studios. Now, don't forget after the show. The
podcast is going up. So if you missed any of
today's show, shame on you. But you can check out
the podcast sus search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get
your podcasts, follow rate and reviewed the podcast. Again, just
(54:22):
search Fox Sports Radio wherever you get to podcasts. You
see the show posted right after we get off the air.
All right, we got a very competitive start to this
women's National Championship game between Yukon and South Carolina. Right now,
the Husky's leading by a score of fifteen to thirteen.
We got four minutes to go in the first quarter.
By the way, I want to always ask you, because
I know you're a hoops fan like me. Sure the
(54:44):
fact that men's collegiate basketball is the only basketball where
they don't have quarters, and they've had two.
Speaker 4 (54:51):
Halves, and they've been doing this since the beginning of time.
Speaker 1 (54:54):
Whether you talk about high school, the ladies game, obviously,
the professional game, you have quarters. Except men's college basketball
you have two halves.
Speaker 4 (55:03):
Yeay or nay? Yeah, I'm not.
Speaker 2 (55:06):
I'm not.
Speaker 4 (55:06):
It's a big change, man, when it comes to stuff
like that. Oh, here's my thing. You change it for
what reason you have to get Let me ask you this.
Speaker 1 (55:13):
Were you happy when baseball eliminated the U or the
nationally finally paved in and welcomed the designated hitter.
Speaker 4 (55:21):
Were you a D eight fan?
Speaker 1 (55:22):
I mean, you had two leagues for fifty years on
different sides. One was a DH league, one was not.
And finally they said enoughs enough and they pulled the
bats out of the hands of the pitchers and said
we're DH all avoided. Because I just much rather have
the pictures pitch because that's what you do. Well, that's
why I'm asking you about it. Twenty minute halves or
the quarters.
Speaker 6 (55:42):
Just keep it the twenty minute halves because it's the
same across the board. It is it twenty minute has
for power foul conferences and then four quarters for it.
Speaker 4 (55:49):
I mean in every other you know, high school, professional,
they have quarters. Keep it the way it is. It's fine,
it's fine, it's fine. All right.
Speaker 1 (55:56):
Let's get to a little NFL news right now. So
we've got the draft. We'll start two weeks from Thursday,
so we're getting close. We're getting down to the nitty gritty.
I always like to share with you what I talked
to Adam Kaplan about on Saturdays, and so Adam came
on and we wanted an update on the whole Aaron
Rodgers situation. One thing he did say, because you know,
(56:18):
I brought up the Vikings last week, and he said
that the Vikings have basically told Aaron Rodgers that as
of right now, they don't have interest, but this could
change based on JJ McCarthy's condition and a lot of
other things.
Speaker 4 (56:39):
Is he ready to go?
Speaker 1 (56:39):
They got to see j McCarthy come back on the
field coming out the injury, but right now they basically
are holding him off. The Steelers, according to Adam Kaplan,
are the ones just sitting on him, just sitting there
saying it's up to you.
Speaker 4 (56:54):
We absolutely would love to have you as our quarterback.
Speaker 1 (56:58):
And then I think you and I are both in
a or like, why would he want to be the
quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Vikings make sense, already
made team that would give him a legitimate chance to
win a super Bowl immediately, versus a Steeler team that
is not in the super Bowl conversation. So according to Adam,
that's where we are right now. And to guess whether
(57:18):
or not he will have a decision made before the draft,
I think the Steelers are already planning on him, Let's
put it this way, not haveing made up his mind
by the draft. So if they're going to draft a quarterback,
if that's their game plan, whether it's gonna be Milrow
later on, or maybe use a first round pick on
a guy like Jackson Dart if he calls to twenty one,
they will do that. And they're not just gonna sit
(57:40):
around and wait for Aaron Rodgers to make a decision.
Speaker 6 (57:42):
Yeah, and I wouldn't sit around and wait for Aaron
Rodgers either. Here's my thing, Number one, it's April six.
Why are we even still talking about Aaron Rodgers?
Speaker 4 (57:49):
Why?
Speaker 6 (57:50):
And we wonder why this guy, so Eric gat we
wonder why this guy is such a me guy is
such an narcissist and ones all attention on him. We
have so much other great sports stuff going on. Where
are we he goes. It's not gonna matter. I'm saying
it right now, on April six. I'm telling you guys,
right now, I don't care where he signs. They're not
gonna win a Super Bowl because he's gonna find some
way to self sabotage it, because he's gonna make it
about himself. This Minnesota thing needs to go away. And
(58:12):
I'm gonna keep banging on this, and I'm gonna keep
saying that. I'm telling you guys this, The Minnesota thing
needs to go away. JJ McCarthy, who I predicted last
year would be drafted by the Vikings because I just
like that fit and it felt like that it would
work at eleven for them. Of course, they end up
moving up, and the Jets move back, and they beat
the Broncos to the punch, and they go on and
they take bo Nicks. They move on with your guy, like,
move on with your guy once you got a girlfriend
(58:34):
or you got a boyfriend. Stop flirting, stop even thinking
about flirt, stop even thinking about other people.
Speaker 4 (58:39):
Once you got a really good job.
Speaker 6 (58:40):
I understand you want to keep your resume at on indeed,
or you want to keep your resume at on LinkedIn,
But how about you just kind of water the grass
where you are, Like they say, the grass ain't green.
On the other side, the grass is greener where you
water it. Water your grass right now, your grass is
JJ McCarthy. And what you got going on right now
at April sixth, Aaron Rodgers doesn't know your playbook. Aaron
Rodgers doesn't know your city like that. Aaron Rodgers doesn't
(59:00):
know your teammates. He doesn't know the players. He doesn't
know the chemistry, he doesn't know the camaraderie. You don't
know the stuff that's there. It takes a minute to
even get involved in that. What's you gonna do? Go
out to the concerts, what's he gonna do? Hang out
at a Twins game? What's he gonna do? Go to
a Minnesota Wild hockey game and try to show, Oh,
look I'm here, I'm having fun. I'm hanging out all
that bupkuts in that flip flam and fluffing bs.
Speaker 4 (59:19):
I told you guys he was doing last year with
the bum ass Jets.
Speaker 6 (59:22):
Like, no move on.
Speaker 4 (59:24):
And if you're Pittsburgh, ah, man, what are you doing well?
I mean right now they don't have a quarterback. Man,
they got some, but they just I think you and
I could play for it.
Speaker 6 (59:33):
I think you could go two for thirteen for forty
seven yards a well, which is why I think to
do that right now?
Speaker 1 (59:38):
Why Atlanta kept Kirk Cousins because every thing is Why
let him walk?
Speaker 4 (59:43):
Why cut them loose when we might be able to
get something in return?
Speaker 1 (59:46):
A desperate situation in Pittsburgh if the Aaron Rodgerson does
not come down, they may get desperate and throw some
you know, decent draft capital to Atlanta to land Kirk Cousins,
I like, which is why Atlanta did that. I mean,
we know that Pennix is now the quarterback and it's
the guy. Yeah, I mean I love him. He's you know,
(01:00:07):
getting back to Rodgers. Look, I'm on a one hundred
percent of cord. You know how I feel about Aaron Rodgers.
I've been saying this ever since he left Green bag
Go why are people ignoring his final year in Green Bay?
Speaker 4 (01:00:16):
Did anyone see that guy?
Speaker 1 (01:00:17):
Right, and by the way, right, I'm looking at his
numbers that last year in twenty twenty two at green Bay,
his numbers this past year, because both years he started
all seventeen games, almost identical, almost identical. His numbers is
quarterback rating, his total quarterback rating complete from everything touchdown
to interception ratio. What he did in twenty twenty four
(01:00:38):
with the Jets, it's exactly what he did in twenty
twenty two in Green Bay when it was clear that
he's done. He is he has done being an elite quarterback.
Speaker 6 (01:00:47):
You know what I'm saying about numbers. Theve they don't lie,
but they always don't tell the full truth.
Speaker 4 (01:00:52):
Well they don't always. But as a guy told a
numbers guy, I get him, so you could put up
these numbers.
Speaker 5 (01:00:57):
I can.
Speaker 4 (01:00:57):
I can twist him anyway.
Speaker 6 (01:00:59):
He'll say, he goes, don't tell me about the labor,
just show me the baby. Well, here's the only number
you need to know. He was eight and nine that
last year in green Bay and five and twelve last year,
and loft that home to Detroit and then made sure
he walked off with his arm around Randall Cobb so
the camera can see him and taking one last.
Speaker 4 (01:01:14):
Glance and look around, and this could be game. Got it?
Speaker 2 (01:01:18):
Man?
Speaker 4 (01:01:23):
The cameras are on, and that's what he does. Stop.
I agree with you.
Speaker 1 (01:01:26):
The bottom line is, here's what we learned about Kevin
O'Connell in twenty twenty four. He took Sam Darnald off
the scrap heat and he had a Pro Bowl season
until he finally got exposed in those last two actually,
but he had a legitimate Pro Bowl season. There was
times when he was in the conversation. They rattled off
two long winning streaks last year with Sam Donald.
Speaker 4 (01:01:47):
How does that happen? When he got a guy like
Kevin O'Connell. He run in the show. He was so
great they let him move once to another. Exactly why
do they let him go? Exactly?
Speaker 1 (01:01:55):
They know their coach can make any quarterback a star.
That's how good McCarthy. It could be that too. Well,
and that's the whole point again. They're only concerned about
McCarthy's health. Jay Z ready to go.
Speaker 4 (01:02:06):
JJ's farm man, Well, how do you know? Have you
you a doctor? I have to address his doctor. I'm
not you might I'll tell you this.
Speaker 6 (01:02:14):
If he comes out and have a bomb year I'm
making that mandatory Fox Sports again.
Speaker 1 (01:02:20):
The The bottom line is, yes, Aaron Rodgers has contacted
the Vikings and the response to him has been right now,
we don't have any interest. That could change depending on
the condition of JJ McCarthy, but as of right now.
Speaker 4 (01:02:33):
We do not have interest.
Speaker 1 (01:02:34):
All right, let's find out what is trending right now.
We always have interest in what Monsey has to say.
Monzi was on yesterday. Monzi has been all over the
map with her.
Speaker 11 (01:02:45):
I have talk shows a little bit, a little bit,
it's right, like last.
Speaker 1 (01:02:48):
Few Sundays, you've been going from there into a show. Yes,
and then yesterday I'm walking out of my show and
who's walking in?
Speaker 4 (01:02:55):
I'm walking in. I watched her. I watched your baseball
podcast show The Day.
Speaker 11 (01:02:59):
Too, good Stuf you thanks appreciate that. Yeah, the Dodger
Zone on the Sick podcast.
Speaker 6 (01:03:03):
Thank you.
Speaker 11 (01:03:04):
You know, it's been a bit of a wild schedule,
but it's okay. I don't buy this is what we
do though.
Speaker 4 (01:03:09):
Yeah, the same word, right, you want to go you
want to.
Speaker 6 (01:03:13):
Go putch a nine to five in a cubicle, Not
knocking eat of those jobs, but do you want to
go putch a nine to five in the cubable.
Speaker 9 (01:03:18):
I mean I sometimes do do nine to five yere
because of anchoring.
Speaker 4 (01:03:21):
We do have days, guys. You're not in a cubicle, guys.
You know, for years and years and years, my fladder, my.
Speaker 1 (01:03:29):
Father used to say this, he goes, you know, the
one thing I love about you being on radio or
TV is that I can turn on the radio.
Speaker 4 (01:03:35):
And turn on the TV and know you actually have
a job. Right, No, and then and then he would say,
because there was a long time when I.
Speaker 1 (01:03:42):
Didn't man, and then and my and then my dad
used to say, he goes, you know, talking sports isn't
exactly a job, And I say, you're right, Dad, but
it's a hell of a way.
Speaker 4 (01:03:51):
To make it, a hell of a way to make
a living.
Speaker 5 (01:03:52):
You know.
Speaker 9 (01:03:53):
It's so funny that you say that, because, like I
realize I can't lie about going to work because I'm
on air.
Speaker 11 (01:03:59):
So like if friends want to hate out, like before,
I'd be like, oh I gotta work.
Speaker 9 (01:04:02):
Now, I'm like, I can't use that as an excuse
me because they can just turn it on right and
either here me or not.
Speaker 11 (01:04:07):
So it's something I learned that I can't use oh,
I gotta work.
Speaker 4 (01:04:10):
I can't Bozzy, I got caught in the law. Light
two years ago, I got caught in the law.
Speaker 9 (01:04:14):
I was like, na.
Speaker 6 (01:04:14):
Fox Sports Radio called it one of my friends and
he was like, yo, bro, we was on Fox seventy.
Speaker 4 (01:04:19):
We was on that ad last I say, yo, man,
you're not hot. I'm sorry.
Speaker 6 (01:04:22):
Nowadays, this stuff, this stuff, this stuff glitches man, you
missed it.
Speaker 4 (01:04:26):
Dopells high n Yeah, I got caught something.
Speaker 9 (01:04:32):
I quickly realized after getting this job that I couldn't
lie about that.
Speaker 4 (01:04:36):
Oh guys.
Speaker 9 (01:04:37):
So the NCAA Women's Championship Game officially underway.
Speaker 11 (01:04:40):
One quarter in the books. Yukon is up on South Carolina.
Speaker 9 (01:04:44):
Nineteen to fourteen. It's been a tight game. The game
Cocks are shooting forty percent from the field. The Huskies
are shooting almost fifty three percent from the field.
Speaker 11 (01:04:53):
But again, just the first quarter in this one.
Speaker 4 (01:04:56):
In Major League.
Speaker 9 (01:04:57):
Baseball, they also got in done of this is responsible
for all of the runs for the Dodgers, but it
doesn't matter because Nick Castaianos did hit a grand Slam
for Philadelphia.
Speaker 4 (01:05:04):
So the Phillies are up six to four.
Speaker 9 (01:05:06):
It's the bottom of the sixth inning, Pirates still beating
the Yankees four to one. Bottom of the seventh as well.
White Sox up on the Tigers three to one after
seven innings. The Mets are edging the Blue Jays at
home two to one. Bottom of the sixth inning. All
Brewers against the Reds. Reds either score or fourteen runs
or they score nothing, and Brewers right now are shutting
them out fourteen zero. Bottom of the fourth inning. Twins
(01:05:29):
have just exploded. They're up on the Astro seven to one.
Bottom of the fourth. The Padres and the Cubs. We're
trying to see who could have the first worst inning
because the first inning for both of these were so bad.
But the Cubs are up seven to three bottom of
the third. Top of the second, Ais and Rockies tied
at to a piece. We'll check in on the NHL
(01:05:50):
because yes, Alex Ovechkin has done it.
Speaker 4 (01:05:54):
I'm going to try to force the Phillips open.
Speaker 11 (01:06:04):
DNT Sports on the call.
Speaker 9 (01:06:06):
Yes, officially breaking when Gretzky's record eight hundred and ninety
five goals, he also did it in the same amount
of games. I know it was exactly one SiZ game,
four hundred and eighty seven.
Speaker 4 (01:06:20):
That's impressives. That's impressive, goop.
Speaker 11 (01:06:24):
Why why the exact same now?
Speaker 4 (01:06:26):
The Capitals did.
Speaker 9 (01:06:27):
Lose, though its official Islanders beat them four to one.
The other game going on in the NHL Stars in
Wild and the Stars are up one zero halfway through
the second period. It's a busy day. NBA is about
to really kick off one game in the books in
the NBA. I don't know if anyone cares, but the
Bulls did beat the Hornets.
Speaker 11 (01:06:43):
One thirty one to one seventeen. You give you guys
an update until the finals.
Speaker 9 (01:06:50):
Card It sounds like you don't know, April not but
the Lakers thunder about to tip off soon.
Speaker 11 (01:06:57):
So back to you guys, all right.
Speaker 4 (01:06:59):
You know when you mention that, I mean I love that, buddy.
I loved a weird stats like that, like the same
number of games.
Speaker 1 (01:07:06):
One of my favorite weird stats was the Great stand
a Man Musical. Okay, he was one of the greatest
hitters of all time back in the forties and the
fifties and the Saint Louis Cardinals.
Speaker 4 (01:07:17):
We'll never understand the man anyway, I.
Speaker 1 (01:07:19):
Bless you, but he had three thousand, six hundred and
thirty hits in his career. Right, three thousand, six hundred
and thirty one thousand, eight hundred and fifteen at home,
one thousand, eight hundred and fifteen on the wall.
Speaker 11 (01:07:31):
That's weird.
Speaker 4 (01:07:31):
How about this, that's weird.
Speaker 1 (01:07:34):
Cecil Fielder and Princefielder, the old father son, Yeah, ended
their careers with the exact same number of home runs.
Speaker 11 (01:07:42):
No, that's gross.
Speaker 4 (01:07:43):
How about Frank Gore. Frank Gore retired.
Speaker 1 (01:07:46):
He played sixteen years in the NFL and finished with
exactly sixteen thousand yards rushing.
Speaker 4 (01:07:53):
Exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:07:53):
That's sixteen thousand and one, sixteen thousand yards rushing in
sixteen seasons.
Speaker 6 (01:07:59):
My favorite one as Kobe's careers and number eight as
opposed to twenty four.
Speaker 4 (01:08:04):
That's the cool one. I pulled it up just real fast.
Speaker 6 (01:08:06):
So in the eight Jersey twenty five thousand, two ninety
two thirty nine, think twenty four Jersey twenty three thousand points,
here's the good one points in eight Jersey sixteen, eight
hundred and sixty six in the twenty four Jersey sixteen thousand,
seven hundred and seventy seven.
Speaker 4 (01:08:21):
Wow, just how the eights? The six is the sevens?
Speaker 6 (01:08:24):
Same amount of rebounds thirty six to thirty four assists,
thirty one to thirty thirty one, forty eight to thirty
one fifty.
Speaker 4 (01:08:30):
Eight as fars. So if you in just his two
his two jerseys almost mirror.
Speaker 6 (01:08:36):
That's crazy, right, over twenty years for the La Lakers,
with all the injuries, with the ACL with the shoulder
tear late in his career.
Speaker 4 (01:08:43):
Yeah, that was what I always looked at it.
Speaker 11 (01:08:45):
W Wow, that's weird.
Speaker 4 (01:08:46):
This is yeah freaky Kobe. Come on, mananky freaky eight
twenty four bab I like it.
Speaker 9 (01:08:51):
I don't like it.
Speaker 4 (01:08:52):
I love freaky stuff. Here is another one. Oh god,
oh god, old time baseball player you never heard of.
Speaker 1 (01:08:58):
The greatest left handed winning and select named Warren Spawn.
He won three hundred and sixty three games in his career,
still the record for a left hander in his career
as number of career hits as a batter, three hundred
and sixty the exact number.
Speaker 4 (01:09:11):
Oh and here's the other thing.
Speaker 1 (01:09:12):
He played for the Braves, He played for the Mets
and the Giants at the end of his career. In
all three instances, he had the exact same number of
wins as hits.
Speaker 4 (01:09:20):
No stop it. That's the matrix. That's the matrix that Wikipedia.
Who could change that? Yeah, yeah, you could change that.
I didn't know that until my niece taught me that.
Speaker 1 (01:09:34):
Yeah, when you're a sports freak staff freak like me,
these are kind of things you've That's all right, all right,
So let's let's continue on.
Speaker 4 (01:09:43):
Here as we get ready for the draft, because you
have been all over.
Speaker 1 (01:09:45):
This, and I'm going to have to give kudos here
to my partner, mister Husky, who has never wavered in
his commitment that cam Ward and Shudre Sanders are going
to definitely be selected. I think you said top four now,
you know, because New England's not going to take a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (01:10:02):
Here, here's the one thing. And now I'm in lockstep
with you. I agree with you.
Speaker 1 (01:10:06):
However, the idea that teams are moving up in this
draft is pure fan. Everyone keeps looking at the Saints
at nine, the Raiders at six, and the idea that
either one of these teams is going to move up
in this draft giving up capital draft capital move up
does not seem likely at this point. It may not
(01:10:27):
be necessary because all of a sudden, it seems like
the Titans at number one have fallen in one love
with cam Ward, and that leads the Browns and the
Giants at two and three to figure out which one
of those two teams are going to be the destination
for Sutar Sanders.
Speaker 6 (01:10:41):
Yes, so I still stand firm the Tennessee is going
to take a quarterback. They're gonna take they just you
have to.
Speaker 2 (01:10:47):
You have to.
Speaker 4 (01:10:48):
It's not that you don't have a choice, new coaching staff,
new flavor. You do have a choice.
Speaker 1 (01:10:53):
You might want to continue on with Will Levis, who
throws out the ugliest pick six ers of any quarterback
in the NFL.
Speaker 6 (01:10:59):
You keep Levy as the veteran that's been there to
help usher in your rook how to work out, how
to study, how to how to get acclimated to the city,
What dry cleaner do you use? Where to get your food,
where to get there where? Like that stuff matters in
the NFL when you're in a new city, especially when
you're a young kid. Well, cam Wart's not he's a
grown ass man, but going into a new city. So
I still like cam Ward there to Tennessee. Now, I
(01:11:22):
did have someone tell me earlier this week we talked
about Kirk Cousins. Yes, that there could be some movement
on a possible trade from Kirk Cousins to the Browns,
that process that the Browns would be interested in. That
the owner for Cleveland is now listen. He must, he must, admitted,
he must listen to Harmon and Husky. He must, because
I've been saying for a month I would cut him.
Speaker 4 (01:11:44):
Like, why did they not do it? Because they're trying to.
I think the number one they redid it. They readid
his dealer.
Speaker 6 (01:11:49):
Restructure so you can get the mouse here is not
going to change so they can get But they needed
to get the mousse Garrett Dell done and they needed
to move some money around. And I think it was
also giving him a little extra money. Now because I'm
only this cuts coming, guys, it's coming.
Speaker 4 (01:12:02):
He's not. Once again, I keep saying this, and.
Speaker 1 (01:12:05):
OK, okay, you made Finally he admitted we made a
huge missas all right, So I finally admit a So
the cuts. Could you be making another huge mian stay
with Kirk Cousins. No, no, him, No, he had that
one big game against Tampa and then it was wow.
Speaker 4 (01:12:21):
But you know what you get, you get an adult
in the room. You know what you get.
Speaker 6 (01:12:24):
You get a veteran, you know what, You get a
guy that's gonna be on time, be the first and
adorns hell last the league. No, well that's only Achilles
that he did not look right. It's it's April. And
I always say this about Achilles and a cls. Even
though you could come back in a year, you're not
the same player until year two. Even though you could
play that following you're only Adrian Peterson can rip everything
(01:12:45):
up in his knee and he'd come back and run
for two thousand yards. Only Andrean Peterson could do that now, right.
I mean, look, I hip people took bo Jackson out,
but you know how great bou Jackson.
Speaker 1 (01:12:53):
Even when we talked about ACLS MCL's all those knee injuries.
I mean, it used to be a career and it's
no longer off actually, but the Achilles is a different beast.
Speaker 6 (01:13:02):
But it takes two years. You could come back and play,
but it takes two years for you to get back.
This will be the year that the Kurt will be Okay,
he's serviceable. Let me ask you, would you rather have
him or Deshaun Watson Right now?
Speaker 1 (01:13:13):
I'd rather have anybody but Jshaun Watson, but just I'd
have Mason Rudolph before. Oh damn Sean Watson by the way,
right now, apparently is the Steelers quarterback?
Speaker 5 (01:13:22):
Is he not?
Speaker 4 (01:13:23):
Yeah, it's Rudolph fan. Yeah, who's the back? Is Trubisky
still that?
Speaker 5 (01:13:27):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:13:27):
He went off the buffalo?
Speaker 1 (01:13:28):
Righty?
Speaker 4 (01:13:29):
He went off the Buffalo? Bradshaw right?
Speaker 6 (01:13:31):
I don't know, Yeah, I don't know. Cordnell's start is
Slash available? Is Maddix from? Is Maddicks from the XFL?
It's Maddox available? Any of those guys anybody? Yeah, Tommy Maddox,
Tommy XFLFXL.
Speaker 4 (01:13:45):
He was the star of the XFL. It's one season.
Speaker 6 (01:13:49):
Got yes, I was man, Yeah, man, I love the XFL.
My brother in law played in the XFL for the team.
Speaker 4 (01:13:55):
He he hated me, he hate me. Keith Smart, yeah,
keep Smart actually got picked up by the Saints. I
got some great stories out of that XFL.
Speaker 1 (01:14:03):
You remember you know Macvescursion right, Yes, he was the
original play by play guy that was hired.
Speaker 4 (01:14:08):
He has stories. We gotta get mad on the show,
talk about those XFL stories. All right?
Speaker 1 (01:14:13):
Coming up, We're going to continue on with our coverage
of this women's National Championship game. Right now, Yukon looking good,
up seven seven minutes to go in the first half.
A long way to go, but right now the Huskies
have that seven point late and well much more on tomorrow's.
Speaker 4 (01:14:28):
Championship game between Houston and Florida.
Speaker 1 (01:14:32):
This is Fox Sports Sunday, Steve Harvin VJ Husky Fox
Sports Sunday.
Speaker 4 (01:14:39):
We're alive from the tyrack dot Com studios.
Speaker 1 (01:14:42):
Calm the chaos with the shipping software that delivers use
code sports for a free trial at shipstation dot com.
Speaker 4 (01:14:50):
That's ship station dot com code Sports, all right.
Speaker 1 (01:14:54):
So right now the Huskies up over the Gingcock's twenty
nine twenty two inside four minutes ago in the first half.
Speaker 4 (01:15:03):
Story of this game right now has been turnovers.
Speaker 1 (01:15:08):
South Carolina is twice as many as Yukon, and South
Carolina really struggling to make shots.
Speaker 4 (01:15:14):
However.
Speaker 1 (01:15:14):
The only thing keeping this game as close as it
is is that Yukon has made a single three point
shot in this game. You know, with all the talk
about Page Beckers, deservedly so, Fudd is once again leading
the team and scoring. Right now, She's got eleven points
and Sarah Strong obviously one of the top freshmen in
the country.
Speaker 4 (01:15:32):
She's a force.
Speaker 1 (01:15:33):
Is eight rebounds already in the first half for her,
so they got the depth. We'll see how this all
works out. You see a little frustration setting in with
Don Staley right now.
Speaker 4 (01:15:42):
That's not frustration.
Speaker 6 (01:15:44):
She feels like the Yukon's getting a way with some
pushoffs on their jobs, which she's right, they are kind
of extending that arm. But it's just not the three
point shooting of the reason why this game is the
way it has got to get props to the rebounding
that South Carolina has been doing.
Speaker 4 (01:15:56):
So it's never just one thing, it's it's it evens out.
Speaker 6 (01:15:59):
It's a seven point game, second quarter right now and
three fifty left on the clock, run on points in
the paints ten to eight in Yukon's favor, So that's
that's hitting right there too.
Speaker 4 (01:16:09):
Also, you know, got to make your free throws.
Speaker 6 (01:16:11):
But right now, seventeen fourteen rebound advantage, and that means
you're getting possession, you're stopping people getting possession for your team.
They have eight offensive rebounds, so that's more possessions as
opposed to the five for Yukon. Yukon's just scoring there
one hundred percent from a free throw. Lin they're shooting
a better percentage right now from the field too. But
a lot of basketball to go though. But it's not frustration, man,
it's the National Championship. It's you know, anything looks frustrating
(01:16:34):
when you're yelling out a ref in the National Championship game,
It's like, just call just call it fair.
Speaker 4 (01:16:38):
That's all.
Speaker 1 (01:16:38):
They were just showing on TV Jalen Suggs backbreaker against
UCL in.
Speaker 4 (01:16:44):
The Final four twenty twenty one, when Mike Bruins.
Speaker 1 (01:16:46):
Played out of their minds against that undefeated Gonzaga team
tied up the game and then he hits the half
court shout of the busser to win the game. And
then of course they got blown out by Baylor in
the National Championship game. How do you think Houston coming
off that emotional, improbable come from behind victory, Whether it's
(01:17:08):
a choke job or not, the bottom line is Houston
was down six with thirty four seconds left and Duke
had the ball, and they still came back, scored the
last nine points in thirty three seconds to steal that
game away from Duke. Turn his spot in the emotionally,
can he get it back together because, like I said,
that year a Gonzaga, you know, emotional, they were undefeated,
(01:17:31):
you know, unbelievable battle against UCLA. They come away on
a miracle shot and they were just flat out done
against Baylor and got blown.
Speaker 4 (01:17:40):
Out of that game. Could that happen to Houston in
this game against Florida?
Speaker 6 (01:17:44):
Defense is too good. Defense is too good. The defense
travels on Monday night, they gotta beat Florida. They'll win
anestional championship game home.
Speaker 4 (01:17:50):
I'm hoping I'm winning. I'm definitely roading for Kelvin. Kelvin Stampson.
Speaker 6 (01:17:53):
He's been knocking on the door, knocking on the door,
knocking on the door. And you go back to Indiana
and then what he's been able to do with this
HU programmer. Like I said, remember they have five slam Agema.
They couldn't even win a national championship. They didn't win
a national championship. A lot of people think they do it.
It's like no dretch learning Gajawan did not win a
national championship. Kyle Lewis final four in the championship game
back in the back years, but they didn't win it.
Speaker 1 (01:18:13):
So Guy Lewis was the coach at Houston for thirty years.
He literally put that Houston basketball program in the mid sixties.
He got in a guy named Elvin Hayes. Melvin Hayes,
Elvin Hayes, Elvin Hayes, the big e big he course
they beat well, of course, most famous for beating UCLA
and Kareem and in his junior year snapping u S
(01:18:34):
one loss.
Speaker 4 (01:18:34):
Isn't that Kareem's one college.
Speaker 1 (01:18:36):
He lost one other game to USC the next year
when they just basically there was no shot clock.
Speaker 4 (01:18:41):
It was forty six forty four.
Speaker 1 (01:18:42):
It was the final scocup anyway, but that was the
most famous college game of its day. And then the
UCLA got its revenge in the final four. But they
got to two final fours with Elvin Hayes and then
of course with the Chema Lodge when they actually got
to three final fours, two championship games.
Speaker 6 (01:18:57):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:18:57):
And then of course this is the second twenty twenty
one we're just talking about that Gonzaga shot against UCLA.
Houston was in that final four as well, uh, and
they got knocked out. So yeah, they've never won a
national championship. Uh. They've had many opportunities. But yeah, I
get a sense this could be it. They could be
a team of destiny, defense, defense.
Speaker 4 (01:19:17):
Defense. Now, Clayton Junior, you got to lock this kid up.
You got to figure out what you want to do.
The thing? What Houston is there? So long?
Speaker 6 (01:19:22):
When you watch them and you just look at the court,
you're not following the ball. When they get down in
the stands and they all spread their arms and they
got their arms up and waving and playing defense and
moving their feet, then where.
Speaker 7 (01:19:31):
Do you go?
Speaker 4 (01:19:32):
Where do where can you get into where you like?
Speaker 6 (01:19:34):
I like Clayton Junior, but I would think Cooper Flag
is a better player and more effective. He showed it yesterday.
And Clayton could go off for twenty eight, twenty nine points.
I don't mean you're gonna win the game. So I
think Houston might employ Hey, we're gonna let Clayton do him,
and we're just gonna shut down to everybody else. Get
on the glass, they'll turn the ball over and let's
go get this Natty and take you back to HS
town exactly. And you don't want him to beat Cheer,
you know what, He's capable. Figure had a way to
(01:19:56):
stop him.
Speaker 1 (01:19:57):
U cond is now up eleven of our South care Carolina,
Plus we got a lot of NBA news final weeks
of the regular season. This is Fox Sports Sunday. Oh yeah,
we're rolling along here on what has been a record
setting Championships Sunday, Fox Sports Sunday. We are broadcasting live
from the ti iraq dot com studios, tier rag dot com.
Speaker 4 (01:20:16):
We're gonna get you there.
Speaker 1 (01:20:17):
And on Matt Selection fast Reshipping Free road has a
protection over ten thousand recommended installers ti i rack dot com.
Speaker 4 (01:20:24):
The way tire buying should be all right.
Speaker 1 (01:20:27):
So on the ladies' side, it is halftime as Yukon
leads South Carolina thirty six to twenty six. The problem
for South Carolina has been shooting, very simple, shooting just
thirty one percent from the field, just ten of thirty
two fifteen to thirty one forty eight percent for the
Yukon Huskies. The rebounding margin is narrow. South Carolina still
(01:20:49):
with a slight edge, but they have more turnovers and
that has been the difference so far. Still, we've seen
much larger halftime deficits overcome. So I'm sure the Don
Staley is getting her troops ready by the way this
this freshman I talked about Sarah Strong. She was second
team All American as a Frenchman. Eleven rebounds at the half,
eight points. And again Paige Becker is not having a
(01:21:11):
great game. She has three and nine shooting. She has
eight points, she has two assists, two rebounds. A pretty
ordinary game for the National Player of the Year. We
actually Juju Watkins about to say, I no, no, I
know Juju was the National Player of the Year lot
and award winner Jojo.
Speaker 4 (01:21:29):
Yeah. In fact, every time I look up, there's another
Juju Watkins commercial. So she's great too. She's good, well,
I mean, she's very natural.
Speaker 1 (01:21:37):
I'm always amazed really when I see now these college
athletes in these commercials, how good they are.
Speaker 4 (01:21:45):
The Cooper Flag one where he him and Bingo. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
that was that was funny. It's very Look, that was funny.
That was funny. No, it's not easy.
Speaker 10 (01:21:53):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:21:53):
I've been on TV shows and they tell you, well,
you just be yourself or do this.
Speaker 1 (01:21:57):
Do that, and it's not always easy, you know, when
you're kind to the fact of okay, I I'd be
acting right now or whatever.
Speaker 4 (01:22:04):
But they have found that TV. I don't try to act.
I just I just do VJA. Well that's see, that's
the thing about me. There isn't much to it, you know,
it's you know, it comes easy to some people. Man.
Speaker 6 (01:22:16):
See see that's a moment where you're allowed to puff
your chest up and hold your head up high.
Speaker 4 (01:22:20):
Because everybody can't do it that I will. I'll be.
Speaker 1 (01:22:24):
When I started in sports soccer radio, you know, almost
forty years ago, I mean, there weren't a lot of
sports sock right right right, and so but I was
working with some people and I was like had listened
to them, and then you meet them and you're like
completely different. Like I'm realizing like they're literally putting on
an act, even changing their names and everything else.
Speaker 4 (01:22:45):
And I'm thinking, I can't.
Speaker 1 (01:22:46):
I mean, if I can't do this just be and
me thank you, then I'm gonna have to find another
line of work because I don't have an act.
Speaker 4 (01:22:53):
I mean, I just I'm a stat geek from the valley.
That's sort of my amo.
Speaker 1 (01:22:57):
And then you know, I love sports, saying I'm a fan.
You know, I don't pretend to be a journalist. I've
never I always felt sports journalist was an oxymoron, because
if you want to be a journalist, why are you
doing sports. You got into sports because you're a fan.
You got teams you like, you got teams you don't like.
Speaker 6 (01:23:14):
And if you're right for somebody long enough, if you
cover someone long enough, Bill pat I got a chance
to meet Bill Pulaski and Michael Wilbon recently, and I
was I was almost star struggle with Michael Wilbon. I
was because I grew up reading him in sharn Heeiser's
column in the Washington Post.
Speaker 4 (01:23:28):
Growing up in Northern Virginia.
Speaker 6 (01:23:29):
My mother was stationed in the Pentagon so DC and
I walked right up to him Thursday night at the game,
and I mister Wilbon, Sir, he's very gracious, stood there
and talked to me, and then we actually walked to
the chick hern room together to go get our food.
I hold the door open forms that he's going. He
just had foot surgery, so he's kind of limping, and
I just told him, I said, I appreciate you, sir. Yeah,
And I and I and I DVR around the horn
and pt I every day to this day. I'll watch
(01:23:51):
him in corn. Oh, I'll watch him at Cornheiser forever
until they take it off the air. I'll never not
watch PTI. But like you said, but those guys.
Speaker 4 (01:23:59):
Here you mentioned lash Plashki and I, uh, we have
a long history together. We actually done shows together. And
he's a Laker fan.
Speaker 1 (01:24:06):
Well, but you know, I remember when it actually first
moved to LA which I always remind him I'm a native,
you're not. And you know what, and he goes, I'm sorry.
He saw me at that Laker game a few weeks back.
I've been there, and he goes, wow, look with the
cat trick. There the hell you been. You know, like
I'm here, you're not.
Speaker 6 (01:24:24):
I met him at a Rams game for the first
time and I just told him, listen, I love around
the horn. I always love the way you delivered. But
I told Wolba on this, I just also love the
way that you were. You were a journalist, but you
you're a Bears fan. Oh, you're a close fan. And
then he became a fan of the Redskins and a
fan of the New York because he covered DC Sports
for twenty five straight.
Speaker 4 (01:24:45):
Yes, so you don't start liking these guys. I had
a partner. I won't to mention his name. He's a
great guy, but he would He was like, you know,
I gotta be an impartial observer. I know you don't tell.
You don't know, I know who you who?
Speaker 6 (01:24:58):
You don't worse guy that talks sports with men because
they don't like.
Speaker 4 (01:25:01):
Anybody, right, Well, that's you. If you're going to be
a journalist, I go, if you're going to be a journalist,
get out of sports, get to get out of sport.
Speaker 6 (01:25:07):
Go like right about wars, or like the homeless, or
like the problems, the politics, problems that are going. Is that,
go be that journalist. When people get in this business
and they go that they're not they're not a fan,
it's like, okay, so then you don't have any good
to say about anybody. You could, you could pick apart
everything and everybody.
Speaker 2 (01:25:23):
Here.
Speaker 4 (01:25:24):
Here's the thing you do. You just mentioned something that's
very key when you're around. Because I moved. I'm an
LA guy, and then I went to San Diego, right yeah,
And I had no connection to San Diego, Sandy.
Speaker 1 (01:25:34):
If you're an LA person, san Diego sports has no
more significance than buffalos.
Speaker 4 (01:25:38):
Right right right, right, right right right right Zerocause if
you're like a local.
Speaker 1 (01:25:43):
Fan, right, I moved down there, and all of a sudden,
I get to know the people, and now you start
having a certain allegiance because now I know some of
the people, I sort of like what they're about and
everything else.
Speaker 4 (01:25:52):
Then on the LA people are like, dude, what is
up with you? Right right? What do you like rooting
for the chart for the podcast? That's wrong with you?
I them around them all the time, I'm not well,
you know, it was the same. It was the same
thing when I worked for the Raiders. I hated the
Raiders as a kid, like they were my number one hate.
Speaker 1 (01:26:10):
And then in fact, when they won that Super Bowl
against the Redskins in nineteen eighty four, I'm watching that
game with my buddies, right, and I'm just now they
were in LA and I'm like, ah, six months later, I'm.
Speaker 4 (01:26:21):
Hired by the Raiders. Yeah, I'm literally walking into the
the you know.
Speaker 1 (01:26:26):
But obviously, once I became a Raider, you know, all
of a sudden, obviously I love the Raiders.
Speaker 6 (01:26:32):
When I let the Raiders not so much, I'm like
that with the chart, I'm diehard Dolphins, don't I know?
Speaker 4 (01:26:36):
People are listening, like, what VJ.
Speaker 1 (01:26:37):
You you bang hard about Okay hard, I went on
this yesterday, this whole thing. I'm like, why is this
Carrie Rhodes, a Louisville guy with great basket?
Speaker 4 (01:26:47):
Why do you root for digging? And he's like, wow,
I was a big Bobby Hurley. Bobby Hurley, I grew
up a Dolphin pant. I'm still at Dolphins. But it
was the Dolphin player that you think it was.
Speaker 6 (01:26:57):
Stam Marino, man, stop playing with me. Oh no, no,
you don't want my damn Marinos, not right now.
Speaker 4 (01:27:01):
But hold on.
Speaker 6 (01:27:02):
I want to make a point about the Chargers covering
the charges this past year. Interviewing Harball, interviewing Herbert. Talking
to these guys, you kind of start liking these guys, man, you're.
Speaker 4 (01:27:12):
Kind of very liable.
Speaker 6 (01:27:14):
Start liking these guys like Derwin, James, Khalil Khalil. You
can walk up to Khalil MC at his locker and
start talking and it's like and he knows he's a
big time star, but he does it.
Speaker 4 (01:27:25):
He'll turn around, you'll put his jacket on, He'll be
like something, just real. You know, it was good in
history with Dean span Back.
Speaker 6 (01:27:32):
I get you, but I mean I'm just using this
as a bridge to I get what you're saying, Like
it would be wrong for me to sit here and
go yeah, I oh no, I just go cover the
no man, when I'm nere. It's like, you know what,
I kind of I know some of these guys, Like
I told I got to invite it to a party.
I went to a Chargers party one night. They invited
me to a party and I went and it's like.
Speaker 4 (01:27:50):
Man, you guys are all you guys all right?
Speaker 2 (01:27:52):
Man?
Speaker 4 (01:27:52):
They told me to say things like, yeah, we invited you,
could we see you doing your work?
Speaker 7 (01:27:55):
Man?
Speaker 6 (01:27:55):
We picked out certain journalists or certain reporters to invite
to the after I drove all the way out to
it was out and San Bernardino Valley, somewhere some big
hotel out there. One of the players to a party
and invited me to a man. So when you got
that type of connection, how can I not knda want
to see you win?
Speaker 4 (01:28:14):
Okay, I gotta share this Marinos story with you. I
cannot be to be honest with you.
Speaker 1 (01:28:19):
I can't remember if it was the super Bowl in
ninety nine in Miami or the two thousand Super Bowl,
which was in Tampa it's one of the two. So
marinos last year was nineteen ninety nine sixty and of
course he you know that he played one year beyond Elway,
who had finally broken through one of those back to
back Super Bowls. So it was direct TV had this event.
(01:28:39):
And the reason I went to this event is the
MC was a friend of mine. But also they would
always bring in like one year they had Montana there,
and so how do you get an autograph Montana ball
or anatograph Marino ball? And so they would hand out
these and I would throw a ball onto the pile
with the knowledge of the guy that's there, and basically I.
Speaker 4 (01:28:58):
Get free autograph. Right, Marina's there. I want to get
a Marino autograph football? Why not? So I get there early.
Speaker 1 (01:29:04):
Marino hasn't gotten there, and my broadcast buddy was standing
there and we see right in the front row all
these fans obviously Dolphin, but right in the front coodn't
be there was a father, uh wife, and then the
kids and they're all decked out in thirteen years, it's
all decked out full Marino, right. So we walked up
to these people before Dan got there, and like, so,
what do you love it. Oh, Dan's the greatest. He
(01:29:24):
is the greatest. I got frustrated, and everyone's don't worry
about that, doesn't matter. He's the greatest of all time.
So Marino finally shows up, so he gets out there.
He talks for a few minutes and now he's walking
out and this grew. They're right in the front row
and they've got stuff, you know, for him to sign.
They're like, hey, Dan, Dan, Dan.
Speaker 4 (01:29:44):
He he doesn't even turn to them like he is.
He just walks right by them. The dad is like, Dan,
come on here, we are you know the kids, blah
blah blah. Doesn't turn around. All of a sudden, the
dad goes, if you Marino, you suck. You are the worst.
You know what, You're no l Way, And he was.
Speaker 1 (01:30:04):
He was hysterical. And even with that Ti rape, Marino
never flinched.
Speaker 4 (01:30:09):
He just kept walking right out because and then you know,
Marino was never one of the guys.
Speaker 1 (01:30:13):
The difference between the Lway and Marino, anyone will tell you,
is and this is nothing about his His skill set
as good as any quarterback that ever played the game.
Speaker 4 (01:30:22):
But Marino was never one of the guys. La was
Marino never was listen and if you're if you're that
dad like dude, like grow up these players. Yes, let
me tell you why. Let me tell you why. Man,
I'm so tired of this top two. You just talk
about cal Ripkin will stay after every game and signed
every other Okay, that's cal Ripkin. No, that's his own prerogative.
(01:30:42):
He could do that.
Speaker 6 (01:30:43):
That doesn't make me judge a player because they don't
do it like you. Gotta think about it, right, you're playing,
You're everywhere you go. People want your everywhere you go,
People want to touch you everywhere you go. But it's
got away on somebody. Man, we don't live that life.
Don't nobody care that much about us? So a mad
le where you have to rent out a whole amusement
park just to take your kids out. You gotta rent
(01:31:04):
out a restaurant just to have a date night with
your wife some nights. It's okay if a players like dude,
this is night one, twenty four in a row. I
just want to go home. I just want to get
to my car. I'm sorry that these kids are here. Okay, Now,
if you set it up next time where we have
an autograph session or something, fine, but while I'm walking out,
(01:31:26):
if I don't want to acknowledge somebody, don't try to
make me a bad human being because I'm tired of this.
Speaker 4 (01:31:34):
Dude. Yes, okay, I'm a star. This is what it is.
But I'm also allowed to.
Speaker 6 (01:31:38):
Just say, you know what tonight, tonight tonight to know
it's not a bad No, what was a baddy?
Speaker 2 (01:31:47):
Hey?
Speaker 4 (01:31:48):
I would love to, but I gotta go. Maybe he
could have, but what was even a bad?
Speaker 6 (01:31:51):
Worst look was a grown ass man then flipping his
anger and his child and starts cussing that damn Marino
in front of little children who look worse.
Speaker 4 (01:32:01):
There people, Yeah, all right there.
Speaker 1 (01:32:02):
By the way, the Lakers are blowing out Oklahoma City
right now on the road. With ten minutes ago in
the first half. They already have a forty nine points up.
Okac has no defense in this game. Lakers sending a message.
We'll get back to that, but reminder again. You can

looking real good right now. They got back to backs
against OKC. Lakers, by the way, have like extra games
(01:32:45):
because they had a cancel ingement because of the fire situation.
Speaker 4 (01:32:49):
So our most teams have three or four games. They
have actually more than that.
Speaker 1 (01:32:52):
We're going to get into what's going on in the NBA,
especially in that Western Conference, potential playoff matchups and the
latest draw.
Speaker 4 (01:33:00):
I'm involving jaw Morant. This is Fox Sports Sunday.

(01:33:47):
for a moment here. We're gonna talk a little Major
League baseball. And I'll tell you what. This guy has
got to be happy with what just transpired in Detroit.
That would be our great insider, mister John Palm Morosi.
Did I just watch a walk off win for the Tigers?
Speaker 4 (01:34:02):
Did I just see that?
Speaker 5 (01:34:03):
Yes? Indeed, Good afternoon from the great state of Michigan.
Spencer Torkolsen continues his tourrets start to begin this season.
A walk off double to RBI for him. He's batting
over three twenty right now, batting clean up now for
the Tigers team or third depending on the day. And
just a really important start to the year for the Tigers.
(01:34:25):
So they are above five hundred. Now they sweep the
White Sox, which is what you're supposed to do, and
in a pretty good position after dropping the first three
games of the season in LA, which admittedly, my friends,
a lot of teams are probably going to be doing
this season against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Speaker 4 (01:34:43):
My man JP Morosi, always great to talk to you.
Speaker 6 (01:34:46):
First of all, how's mama Moro, how's mama's doing that?
Speaker 5 (01:34:51):
Thank you? Thank you for asking. Yeah. But so my
mom is now very excited. Uh the Tigers have won
a few games in a row. She's also thrilled that
her Western Michigan University Broncos are in the Frozen Four.
So certainly when we wrap up things tomorrow night on
the basketball side, the Frozen Fours this weekend Thursday and Saturday,
so the Western Michigan University Broncos are playing in Saint
(01:35:13):
Louis in the Frozen Four.
Speaker 6 (01:35:15):
Awesome, man, I just love making sure Mom's get her
shot out on national radio. All right, man, so let's
move us all. I love brother so thos who right
to baseball?
Speaker 2 (01:35:22):
You are?
Speaker 6 (01:35:22):
I know my first course are going to be as
my be loved Texas Rangers, who you and I think
are gonna do very well this year. I got them
winning the AL They jumped out to a seven two
lead right now, but with the run differential of minus two.
Speaker 4 (01:35:34):
I know the answer.
Speaker 6 (01:35:35):
You know the answer, But explain it to all our
illustrious listeners how the Rangers have been able to pull
this off to start this season.
Speaker 5 (01:35:42):
Bolthen's been really good. VJ. Timely heading has been really good.
And I think that that is what I look at
with this ball club. It's they have not even gotten
off to that great of the start offensively, Otto least
Garcia is giving them some power here and there. Seeger
with a home run today. That's the reason why they've
got a two to one lead. Why at Lang for
to think O alls at a pretty good start, But
look at the top of the lineup, and both Simeon
(01:36:03):
and Sieger are both batting under two hundred right now,
And so I think it's been a matter of timely
hitting and solid bullpen work. A good start today for
Kumar Rocker, who's previous outing was a little bit up
and down, but today really strong five innings, one earn
run against the Tampa Bay Rays. So I think overall,
you know, Jack Lader came up with a couple of
(01:36:23):
really good starts to begin the year two, So they've
had to rely on a few different parts of their club.
I got to say, I'm a little bit concerned about
about that negative run differential. It is early, but typically
they are I would say they are playing well above
what the run differential suggests. So I think that the
analytics folks would tell us that at some point they're
(01:36:44):
going to have a regression of the mean. But in
the meantime, as long as you can get good starts
like from Rocker today, get the well timed extra base.
It's like from Seeger, you got a chance to win
a lot of ball.
Speaker 6 (01:36:53):
Games and fourteen and thirty one given up. We have
to let the fans know they came in one game
against the Reds, the first game to start before blinking
them back to back games.
Speaker 1 (01:37:03):
All right, So I want to get into this Dodger
situation right now. So right now they're trailing the Phillies.
Glasnow got bombed. He gave up a grand Slam to Cassianos,
and he pitched two innings. Dodger starting pitchers and we
are ten games into the season. Now, eleven games into
the year are averaging less than four yard four innings
(01:37:26):
a start. They're averaging less than four innings a start,
So they are digging into this bullpen real quick.
Speaker 4 (01:37:36):
You know, we're early in April, and and so you know.
Speaker 1 (01:37:40):
And they had you know, Otani's throwing bullpen, but they
have no timetable on when he's going to come back,
if he's going to come back.
Speaker 4 (01:37:49):
You can't do this to your bullpen this early in
the season.
Speaker 1 (01:37:53):
They're they're they're they're trotting out five to six, sometimes
seven relief pitchers every single day, and their starters are
not giving them innings.
Speaker 4 (01:38:03):
This could be a big problem moving forward for the Dodgers.
Speaker 5 (01:38:06):
Steve. It is concerning, and it would be more concerning
if they didn't just win the World Series with exactly
this recipe a year ago, right, I mean, that's basically
what they did. Now, they did have to make a
move at the deadline and bring in Jack Flaherty, who,
of course now was a Detroit Tiger. They were hoping
to get a healthier and more consistent year on a
glass now and again it's early. You're right, it was
(01:38:28):
not a good start for him today. The other piece
of this is Blake Snell is now on the il
with shoulder inflammation. That's concerning after just signing him to
a big time, multi year deal. Sasaki I thought was
good yesterday they pulled them a little earlier than I
thought they were going to. But the key thing with
the Dodgers' rotation depth here and at the beginning of
(01:38:48):
the year we said, oh my gosh, they've got about
ten or twelve starting pitchers. What an embarrassment of riches,
and it is when they're all healthy. But yet again
they're not all healthy. And I think the really important
piece of this all is that Yamamoto and Sasaki are
both gonna need additional days of rest. They're gonna keep
backing them off, which means that already they're gonna have
(01:39:11):
to dip into the minor leagues. And what looked like
this unassailable amount of rotation depth is already being questioned.
And fortunately for them, Dustin May has been excellent so
far in the rotation. They also have in pictures like
Ben Kasparius and Dryer. They've got some multi inning guys
in the bullpen that can save them when need be.
(01:39:32):
You do wonder if at some point do they try
to stretch Casparius back out into being a bit of
an opener. Maybe they would consider doing that. They've got
an excellent back end of the pen with Tanner Scott,
with Kirby Yates like trying. They've got so much talent
back there. But you're right, it's rapidly now becoming a concern.
We're not even halfway through April, and you're correct in
(01:39:55):
saying that there's not a timetable on Otani. I know
Bill Plunkett made the point recently pro it's not going
to be until June that he's back in the major leagues.
At a best case scenario, they're being really delivered with
how they move and they should. Kershaw also not close.
So there's there's a lot of questions with this team
right now. They're still the best team in baseball. They've
still only lost one game, they still have an excellent
(01:40:18):
bullpen that allows them to keep games close and come back.
They're they're They're an amazing baseball team, maybe the best
roster that I've ever covered in my time covering baseball.
So I'm not going to sound the alarm and talk
about how flawed they are. But if the question is,
have they fully changed their pitching philosophy from last year
when they were relying on somewhat of an injury prone
(01:40:41):
rotation that that was not full of guys that could
pitch consistently on every fifth day. You're right, but they
were able to find a way to win the World
Series last year with exactly this formula. So I'm not
going to rush into saying that it's a an alarming
situation yet for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Fox Sports.
Speaker 6 (01:40:58):
Radio, Fox Sports Sunday, Hartman and Husky, right now we
have one of the great Jp Morosi, Fox Sports Radio
Baseball Analyst, Jp. I want to go to a team
I asked you a few weeks about and it's still
kind of the same thing, and I just need some
better answers. Man. The Atlanta Braids one in eight, twenty
seventh in bad and average twenty third in home runs
twenty eighth and RBIs just as simply as I can
(01:41:20):
ask you, what the hell is going on in atl Now.
Speaker 5 (01:41:24):
That's a great question. They have gotten off to just
a horrendous start. We had the game I was in
LA on Wednesday when the Dodgers were down five to
nothing and came back and won that game on the
Otani walkoff. I was in the stadium. I couldn't believe it,
and yet I could totally believe it, because that's the
way things are going for the Braves right now. They
just added Sean Murphy back to the roster today. That's
(01:41:45):
important for them because at times he's been one of
the best catchers in the game, so he's gonna have
to get back to being that type of a force
for them in the middle of the lineup. They expect
to have Spencer Strider back probably at some point in
time this month. Akunya can be back sometime they hope
early next month. But they're in a good division and
what they have to hope is that the Phillies and
(01:42:05):
Mets don't get so hot that they run away with
this thing before they really get a chance to check
in and have a full compliment of players sometime next month.
But the thing VJ that I've and I've fortunately we've
got some analytics to help us put this all together.
But our research team and I hope we never going
to talk about this. They're not hitting the fastball, and
when you're not on time for the fastball, you're not
(01:42:28):
going to be able to hit in the big leagues.
And that is just what the numbers say, it's what
your eyes tell you. They're late and they're not doing damage.
And there are some new hitting coaches there. There's new
coaches up and down this roster. Is that part of
the issue. Maybe the hitting coaches they've got, led by
Tim Hyers, are good hitting coaches. I'm just not sure
(01:42:49):
why it hasn't connected yet in the results of the
major league level. But it is a really concerning set
of circumstances for a team that a lot of us,
myself included, thought was going to be a World Series contender,
maybe the team that had the best chance to knock
off the Dodgers in the National League. So I've been
a surprise as anybody. But what my eyes are telling
me right now, VJ is this is not a quick fix.
(01:43:10):
They are late on the fastball, they're not doing damage,
and when you look at that that convergence of events,
typically it is not rectified in a short order of time.
Speaker 4 (01:43:19):
I'm very happy that we did not overplay the torpedo bat, which, by.
Speaker 1 (01:43:23):
The way, Aaron Judges is not used one. He's leading
the majors and home runs. Tommy Edmund the Dodgers did
not use one. He's got five home runs. Right now,
I'm looking at the top home run hitters and they're
not using this bat. So it's a very overplayed story
and that's why we're moving on for the great JP Morosi. Well,
your mom has to be happy anytime the Tigers have.
Speaker 4 (01:43:43):
A walk off win like that.
Speaker 5 (01:43:44):
You walk off within with the Tigers. Her Broncos are
rolling in the Frozen four, and we got a great
NCAA championship indermorrow and I can't wait for that one too.
It's just a wonderful time of year for sports. And
congratulations to Obe on eight nine to five in a
moment that was there in New York.
Speaker 1 (01:43:59):
John believable and did it in style. Gretzky was there
to celebrate. It was a phenomenal day. Jay, people talk
to you next week.
Speaker 4 (01:44:06):
Thanks so much, looking forward to thank the great JOHNS. Morosi.
Speaker 1 (01:44:10):
Johnny is right there all right by the way. Lakers
just blowing out. Okay, see, let's find out what is
trending right now?
Speaker 4 (01:44:19):
Uh And Manci, your.
Speaker 1 (01:44:20):
Beloved Clippers actually could face the Lakers in the first round.
Like the Clips are like tied for the sixth seed,
they lose a tie break, yep.
Speaker 4 (01:44:30):
But if they sneak into the six and the Lakers
hang on to the three Wow and bring the dome.
Bring it. That's right, that's.
Speaker 5 (01:44:41):
Just like that.
Speaker 11 (01:44:42):
You should be scared of the Clippers right now.
Speaker 4 (01:44:44):
Means are Zobots.
Speaker 11 (01:44:48):
The guy who's on the show, unreal, unrel every guy.
Speaker 9 (01:44:51):
Now, Yeah, finally they're actually using him as an offensive.
Speaker 1 (01:44:56):
Yeah, Kawasa play back to back games for the first
time all season.
Speaker 9 (01:45:01):
Kawhi James Harden of eats a Zubots. Norman Powell.
Speaker 11 (01:45:05):
I mean, the list goes on as to why we
are being and you.
Speaker 4 (01:45:08):
Have a coach championship at the Green Tyler, we do, we.
Speaker 11 (01:45:12):
Do know It's listen, I don't. I'm ready to go
to the finals. That's what I'm telling you.
Speaker 4 (01:45:16):
I'm ready to go to calling it.
Speaker 12 (01:45:17):
He's calling it, I think a statement calling it like
calling I'm a fan, of course, I want to call
it like as a I mean, winning a playoff series.
Speaker 4 (01:45:28):
I went out on the limb. My Pistons are going
to win a playoff series. I'm standing on that.
Speaker 9 (01:45:32):
Yeah, but like I feel like calling it is like, yeah,
I'm calling it, but I'm a fan. So it's like
it comes from a place because I want it so
bad and I think they're playing so well, but anything
can happen, like you know, but I'm ready to go
to the finals.
Speaker 11 (01:45:45):
That's my point. I'm ready to buy all my clippers
are going to the finals.
Speaker 4 (01:45:52):
I am ready.
Speaker 9 (01:45:53):
The game going on right now between okay See and
the Lakers is all LA. They are up sixty eight
to forty four late in the second quarter. LA seventy
two percent from the three point line. They are thirteen
of eighteen, one of the big bags.
Speaker 4 (01:46:05):
They score eighty points in the first half.
Speaker 11 (01:46:07):
Here right, yeah, very close, yep, yip, y up the Thunder.
Speaker 9 (01:46:10):
It's not even that they're shooting back, but the Lakers
are just shooting so well, almost sixty six percent from
the field in general, but seventy two percent from the
three point line.
Speaker 11 (01:46:18):
So yeah, we'll see how the Thunder come.
Speaker 9 (01:46:20):
Out in the second half, because right now it has
been all Lakers and Luka Doncic the leading scorer of
the game. He's got seventeen points, Austin Reeves fifteen points
for ok Se, Shai Gildes Alexander a leading scorer with.
Speaker 11 (01:46:32):
Ten points, So it's just all Lakers right now.
Speaker 9 (01:46:34):
In the women's NCAA Basketball Championship, Yukon has a fifty
six to forty lead over South Carolina.
Speaker 11 (01:46:41):
Page Beckers kind of a quiet day three of nine.
Speaker 9 (01:46:44):
She's got ten points, but the Huskies are up with
about two and a half minutes to go in the
third quarter.
Speaker 11 (01:46:49):
In baseball, extra innings between the.
Speaker 9 (01:46:51):
Yankees and the Pirates, bottom of the tenth inning, Pirates
obviously have a man on second base, but they are
down to their final out if they're gonna walk this
one off. Bottom of the ninth inning in Boston, in
game one of a doubleheader between the Cardinals and the
Red Sox, Saint Louis is up four to two again
bottom of the ninth. Brewers have added some more runs
against the Reds eight to two top of the eighth inning,
Twins topping the Astros seven to four. Top of the
(01:47:14):
sixth inning. Padres came back, but the Cubs are still
up seven to six. Bottom of the sixth inning, Rangers
edging the race two to one. Top of the seventh inning,
A's and Rockies were tied not anymore. Colorado was up
seven to four top of the sixth inning. Mariners up
on the Giants in San Francisco won zero after two innings,
while the Guardians and the Angels are tied at winnipiece
bottom of the second the games that have wrapped up.
Speaker 11 (01:47:36):
The Nationals beat the Diamondbacks five to four. You guys
talked about it.
Speaker 9 (01:47:40):
Tigers walked it off, Spencer Torkulsen against the White Sox.
Speaker 11 (01:47:43):
Four to three, The Mets edge the Blue Jays two
to one, The Royals.
Speaker 9 (01:47:46):
Defeated the Orioles four to one, and the Phillies officially
beat the Dodgers eight seven. Yeah, show hal Tani is human.
If you've ever wondered, yes, if you strikeouts, yeah, yeah, so.
Speaker 11 (01:48:00):
He's you in at least it happens.
Speaker 4 (01:48:02):
Yeah, he's in.
Speaker 1 (01:48:03):
He's actually been in a little bit of a soft
as batting averages around two seventy right now.
Speaker 9 (01:48:08):
Yeah, he is.
Speaker 11 (01:48:08):
He He just only delivers some big moments.
Speaker 4 (01:48:11):
He didn't early. It's hold back ease is not La.
Speaker 6 (01:48:15):
You go back, I tell you right now in Philadelphia
don't feel like LA do right now. And that's what Look,
we just watched the Tigers and we're looking at the crowd.
People got on like north faces. Yeah, it got all
lights to boggin happens. It's called back then, man, it's
ain't in La.
Speaker 4 (01:48:28):
Yeah, let's call.
Speaker 1 (01:48:28):
Where it's not early right now, and that's this women's
championship game.
Speaker 4 (01:48:32):
Yukon is blowing the doors off South Carolina.
Speaker 1 (01:48:34):
Yeah, they are up eighteen right now with a minute
to go in the third quarter. It is all Huskies,
all Huskies, all right, Thank you monte as always once
again here it's a Fox Sports Sunday and we're coming
to live from the Tirack dot Com studios. Calm the
chaos with the shipping software that delivers use code sports
for a free trial at shipstation dot com. That's ship
(01:48:58):
station dot com Code Sports. I was just I was
looking right there. Don Staley cannot be happy, so you
kind of came down. They missed a shot, and Paige
Beckers has been pretty quiet in this game. She just
absolutely out hustled to South Carolina players to get a
rebound and got fouled, knocked down a couple of free throws.
(01:49:18):
So again you can right now in full control. Up
fifty eight to forty over South Carolina. There's another turnover
for South Carolina as they seem to be unraveling right now.
Speaker 4 (01:49:30):
Ooh, nice block, noe're not'n raveling. They're getting beat by
They're getting outplayed again, beat by a better team. That
Paige Beckers is the best player in the nation of
it as Juju Watkins. So maybe, but but another unbelievable
shooting on twenty four points for her. They're not They're not.
They're not. They're just not. They're not competing in this game.
Speaker 6 (01:49:46):
And if I was coached, if I was coached Staley,
I'd be pretty upset and pissed two with my team.
You know your team, right, I coach I school football,
And there are some games you go out you know,
you're prepared, and then there's some games you go out.
You know, man, I don't know what I'm gonna get
to day. We know we coached this week, we taught
them up. But the players have to go make the plays.
The coaches don't play, the trainers don't play, the assistants
don't play. The players have to go make the plays.
(01:50:06):
And also too, with Paige Beckers, you got to think
about it too, man, these girls probably want to send
her out on top.
Speaker 4 (01:50:11):
She's gonna be the number one.
Speaker 6 (01:50:11):
Overall pick, right, and this is her last shot, and
you got to know her teammates probably want to send
her out on top. She doesn't have the national championship,
she had the knee injury. She's fall through some adversity
to fight back and get back to this moment right here.
And last year, think about it, think about how that
Yukon and I Will Final four game ended last year
on a screen on an in bounced pass and a
(01:50:32):
screen called on page backer.
Speaker 4 (01:50:34):
So I mean, it just feels like that this year
just might be their year, her year.
Speaker 6 (01:50:39):
Gino has these years where he's got the best player
in the world as far as who's left because Juju's out,
but she's the best player left that's normally the team
that's gonna win it well.
Speaker 1 (01:50:48):
And again she's not the best player in the court
today for Yukon, but her presidence definitely being felt out there.
Speaker 6 (01:50:54):
She still just because somebody's out scoring her, she's still
the best player out there. I feel what you're saying, though,
nineteen point less.
Speaker 1 (01:51:00):
I don't think anyone saw this, especially from the defending
national champion South Carolina and Don Staley again prior to
the game. Uh, you know, really talking actually yesterday talking
about this whole matchup against Yukon, and the attention of
the pagebackers was getting uh and where's the attention for us?
We won two of the last three national championships and
trying to make it three out of four.
Speaker 4 (01:51:20):
My team deserves that.
Speaker 1 (01:51:22):
You would think maybe that fires her team up, but
they haven't been right since the start of this game.
Speaker 4 (01:51:26):
To be honest with you, do you do you believe
a coaches speech can really fox?
Speaker 6 (01:51:30):
Well, let me let me let me just say, but
once the balls tipped, once the first pitch is thrown,
once the puck is dropped, once the checkered flag, the
green flag has waved, the Daytona. Yeah, your crew chief
talked to you all that stuff in the trailer, But now, bro,
you gotta.
Speaker 4 (01:51:50):
Go do what you do. Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:51:52):
I related to parenting, So this is the way I
look at parenting, having had you know, three adult children,
I think parents buy and large no matter how much
effort they put into parenting, either to get get too
much credit or too much blame. The bottom line is
I mean, if you have that level of influence, all
your kids would be the same, which I know they're
(01:52:14):
not exactly like they're all born different, they're all in
the same home. They're different because they're all falling into
different path in life. There's so many different influences in
their life. So you know, if you're if child's successful,
you're proud, you know, but you can't really take credit.
I mean, they've made their life. And conversely, if they
they struggle in life, I mean, do you blame the parents?
(01:52:37):
I mean, I mean that's just I mean, you know
so and that's the way it is with coaches. I
mean again, how you know, it's it's hard for me
to again, you know we were talking about coaches earlier.
Speaker 4 (01:52:52):
How much credit do they deserve? You know, you know
they show attitude.
Speaker 1 (01:52:56):
You're all over Geno Arianima and is false brovad Oh,
you know, a false modesty is which a false home
because he said the other day when people are trying
to make a big deal out of a big deal,
that this is his twenty right, fourth fourth Mike Krzyzewski
is the men's record is thirteen, one more than John
Wooden twenty four. He's won eleven championships, one more than
(01:53:18):
wood and one. He's like, well, that means I've won
eleven championships and twelve other times I failed at the
final four, I failed, So I mean I have a
losing record. His words a losing record at the final four.
It looks right right now he's going to even up
that record.
Speaker 4 (01:53:33):
But yeah, again, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:53:35):
I'm always torn about coaches and the impact managers. We
seem to belittle Major League Baseball managers a lot, like
what do they actually do?
Speaker 6 (01:53:44):
We crushed NFL player coaches to when their teams aren't good,
we crushed them. But when they're good, we want to say, like,
for instance, how many years did it was it? Is
it Belichick or is it Brady? How about they just
worked well together. That's just like asking a successful married couple, well,
is it VJ or is it a wife? Yeah, but
here's the thing is, it's both of them if it's good,
is both of them if it's bad.
Speaker 4 (01:54:04):
But but in the case of the Brady, he leaves her.
Speaker 1 (01:54:07):
Tampa wins a championships, right, and Belichick never won another
playoff game without Tom.
Speaker 6 (01:54:14):
Brady franchise, So you know, nobody else would hire he
had to go coach in Chapel Hill.
Speaker 4 (01:54:20):
Now you know, I actually worked with Bill Walsh, the
legendary forty nine ers.
Speaker 1 (01:54:23):
I did a movie show with this guy when he
was at Stanford a million years ago, and I talked
about Joe Montana with him.
Speaker 4 (01:54:30):
I go, I mean, I mean, he was a good
quarterback and Notre Dame. But he wasn't like a.
Speaker 1 (01:54:36):
You know you a third round pick. And you know,
he said, we just looked at him knowing the offense
we wanted to run and felt like his skills set
fit fit.
Speaker 7 (01:54:44):
And it did.
Speaker 4 (01:54:45):
But the difference again is Okay, it's one thing to
run an offense with a guy, but can you deliver
in the clutch? He goes, I have nothing to do
with that. He doesn't.
Speaker 6 (01:54:54):
It's up to him to actually deliver. And that guy
delivered right also to Bill Walsh. And let me correct
me if i'm you know, I like you in pressure
of my history knowledge off the Paul Brown coaching tree correct.
Speaker 4 (01:55:06):
Yes, absolutely.
Speaker 1 (01:55:07):
In fact, he got bypassed maybe all the Brown's successor
as the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals, and he
was not happy about that.
Speaker 4 (01:55:13):
No, he wasn't all right.
Speaker 1 (01:55:14):
On the other side, we'll have our final predictions on
the big men's matchup between Houston and Florida. This is
Fox Sports Sunday, Harvin and Husky. Here Fox Sports Sunday.
We are alive from the tyraq dot com studios want
to thank are.
Speaker 4 (01:55:34):
Amazing crew today. Montsey doing a phenomenal job as always
when she's not doing one of her multitude of shows.
Speaker 11 (01:55:40):
Always a pleasure, guys, always fun.
Speaker 1 (01:55:43):
Great day today in sports, there's not going on. Not
a good day for South Carolina. They are just getting
annihilated by Yukon. Yukon is well in their way of
winning their first national championship in nine years. Twenty sixteen
the last time Yukon won the Ladies Championship. But they're
up twenty two right now, nine minutes to go.
Speaker 6 (01:56:00):
Speaking about sports going on today, guys, the next sixty
five to seventy days is about to pick up. Oh,
you got the NHL playoffs start, and you got the
NBA playoffs start, you got the NFL Draft.
Speaker 4 (01:56:10):
Yes, we have the masters. You have the Masters, you
have their their baseball, and then baseball.
Speaker 6 (01:56:15):
I always say after May first, when baseball really gets cooking, Yeah,
you could kind of sadden. I know it's a long year,
but after May first, going into the middle of May,
you could see you can see who you can definitely
see who's good and definitely see who's not. Now teams
can make runs and come back. But the next sixty
to seventy five days, man, this NBA Playoffs is going
to be just sick about how this thing like I
don't know who the favorite is.
Speaker 4 (01:56:36):
Chris, want to thank you today and all your help. Yes, yes,
very much so. And then shay Cohill up, you were
going to say something else, what was it? Well, I
was going to talk about the the if the diet
you've been on these days. It's not really much of
a diet.
Speaker 7 (01:56:52):
It's just I'm going home and throwing like twenty five
hundred punches, yeah, and then just trying to meal.
Speaker 4 (01:56:58):
Prop It's not really much of a diet. I mean
lifestyle change.
Speaker 7 (01:57:03):
I think around here you still have to go buy
the Golden Arches when you work the hours I do.
Speaker 4 (01:57:07):
I will be doing that on my way to Arizona.
Not today for me. But it's a order because everybody
orders the same.
Speaker 5 (01:57:14):
No.
Speaker 4 (01:57:14):
No, I got a m Chrispy okay chicken, yeah okay, yeah,
well it was it is lent. It is lent, so
I get discounts. My favorite filet fish very good. So
they got file fish Fridays right now to well, if
you go on the app, it's two fifty any day, Shaye,
what is your Macde's order?
Speaker 14 (01:57:33):
You're going to think I'm big back for this, but
I'll usually get two cheeseburgers, one flea fish, and then
one chicken.
Speaker 4 (01:57:39):
So he's a young guy. He can eat all that.
You eat four sandwiches, very tiny?
Speaker 5 (01:57:43):
What do you like?
Speaker 4 (01:57:43):
There's a lot of bread, a lot of a lot
of that's a lot of guys. That's a lot of
fake bread. Run a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:57:51):
There is a legendary place in Sok Tommy's Burgers where
they have the best chili burgers.
Speaker 6 (01:57:56):
I remember when I was like Shay's age. I could
eat four of those four. But that's a lot of chilly.
That's like a bad times are discussing?
Speaker 4 (01:58:05):
Are discussed? This conversation to stop because I have not
had in and out in probably years. Overrated? Overrated?
Speaker 1 (01:58:12):
You think burgers better, h the fries. I'm never a
fan of the burgers.
Speaker 4 (01:58:17):
You can't go bear habit in and out.
Speaker 14 (01:58:19):
It's fast walking because one through the drive through and
one you got to go in and wait twenty minutes.
Speaker 6 (01:58:23):
But that's why you guys are lazy as hell. And Hella,
I don't never go through the in and out drive.
Do you guys are lazy?
Speaker 4 (01:58:28):
I want there to get out of your car walking.
Speaker 6 (01:58:30):
You can do my car habit, and when I come out,
all those cars are still city.
Speaker 14 (01:58:35):
It's not fast food, though, I wouldn't consider habit fast food.
Speaker 4 (01:58:38):
What about what Burger? Have you guys had water borg
out here?
Speaker 14 (01:58:41):
It's so much it doesn't. Service is horrible at Waterburger
to no one's ever there. Yeah, not in the service,
the service.
Speaker 4 (01:58:48):
And water Bork.
Speaker 1 (01:58:50):
It's so bad, all right, you checkers guys. Yukon is
up seventy two to forty four.
Speaker 4 (01:58:56):
So they beat U C.
Speaker 1 (01:58:57):
L A by thirty four, and now they're leading South
Carolina by twenty eight. This is the greatest final four
that any team has ever had in women's basketball history.
Speaker 4 (01:59:06):
Period.
Speaker 1 (01:59:07):
Doesn't mean this is the best Yukon team of all time,
but no team has ever done a final four like
this year's Yukon team. Tomorrow, VJ, We're gonna have Houston,
We're gonna have Florida. I think we're both liking Houston.
Rooting for Houston.
Speaker 4 (01:59:24):
Houston bar two.
Speaker 6 (01:59:25):
Wow, it'll be tight, It's coming, it'll be tight. It's
coming down to stretch Florida is a one and a
half point favorite guy, So make yourself some money. The
total is one forty and a half. I'll take the
over on that. Give me the old Yeah, I like
seventy five, seventy.
Speaker 1 (01:59:41):
We're talking about this Houston defense and we're just coming
off a game where they held Duke way down.
Speaker 4 (01:59:45):
Okay, but too. That was one hundred and thirty seven
points in that game. God bless everybody. Don't go anywhere.
Much more coming up here on Fox Sports Radio.
