Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Greetings and welcome in
another beautiful Sunday morning for all of you who celebrate
whatever you're celebrating. We've got Easter and Passover, Greek Easter,
everything coming together, WrestleMania, the NBA Playoffs, the Stanley Cup Playoffs,
Major League Baseball, just getting up and having another crack

(00:21):
at this thing we called life. Whatever you're celebrating, however
you're celebrating, thanks for being with us and giving us
a few minutes of your time here as we come
to you live from the tirerac dot com, Fox Sports
Radio Studios, tire act dot com. We'll hope you get there.
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,

(00:44):
my guy, my tag team partner on the iwatcher Flex
podcast year and weekdays with Doug Gottlieb and with Cavino
and Rich and every Sunday morning we convene here. It's
my guy, Dan Bayer at Nan Bayer on Fox. I'm
coming to you live from the Mobile studios ahead of
a couple of well chaotic events later on with the

(01:05):
WrestleMania in Las Vegas. So, yeah, it's a beautiful thing, Dan,
how are you?

Speaker 2 (01:09):
We've reached the halfway point. And while yeah, it could
be the halfway point of the game ones of the
NBA Playoffs, it is your halfway point of WrestleMania. So
what time do you make your way to the stadium
tonight's or this afternoon for all the festivities this evening,
well I.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Got to get the face paint on and the feathered
boas and everything together, but probably about a two hours
post show, so we'll have the streaming experience of all
the playoff games as we begin our trek over to
Allegiant Stadium for night too. Yeah, it's we're amped up.
My brothers were off to morning services as I headed over.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
To this to them, yea, all right, right, that's a
road game for them as well.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
Yeah, that's right, finding a local services here in Las
Vegas and folks up and moving early on. I had
folks already try to engage me in a game a
three card Monty as I am high above Freeman.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
It's an Easter tradition, yes, yes, Sunday morning three card Monty, Yes.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Decided to opt for the cup of coffee instead, Dan,
So we're gonna play that a little a little safer.
But yeah, you mentioned the NBA Playoffs. Now games game
two of these series won't happen till Tuesday, which is
always kind of the fun thing. Hey, here's game one,
when's the next one Tuesday? Take that extra day off.

(02:29):
I don't know if you're accounting for Easter or sync
up with our fun and exciting television schedules, but you know,
as we look ahead to the slate today, you've got
three games with a point spread of twelve and a
half or higher, and then you've got Golden State in
Houston as the nightcap with a one and a half
point spread. But yesterday some thrilling action led by a
couple of guys that are often demonized in our sporting universe,

(02:52):
that is Russell Westbrook and James harden As. We had
a great battle between Denver and Los Angeles there. But otherwise,
you know, we got some blowout action we've got. We
watched the Knicks come back and erase a fourth quarter deficit,
going on a twenty one nothing run to take down
the Pistons. And then the game everybody's keeping an eye
on and the series with lots of interest, and certainly

(03:15):
us being based in Los Angeles, Dan watching what the
Lakers did against the Tea Wolves and has got nothing
to do with our boss, Scott Shapiro, high Wolves are best.
Just an absolute blowout scenario of a quick athletic and
let's call it what it was, just a firestorm of
shots from the outside that the Lakers had no answer for.

(03:37):
And the national narrative have been, you know, how do
you crown Luca and Lebron and put a gesture hat
on Nico? I mean, how many of those have you
seen photoshopped on the web. But after one game, I
think in Lakerland you got a little bit of hand
ringing to do well.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
You should because of a couple of things that you
mentioned in the opening number one. Today's games outside of
that Rocket's Warriors game, Yeah, I mean, they're all one
eight to seven matchups, so you should have you should
have a sizeable advantage as you're heading into a series
if you're the top seed in each conference, especially for
a Memphis team that I mean, heck, data get in on.

(04:14):
I know it's a short trip from Memphis to Oklahoma City,
but still a late Friday game, and now they got
to play the first game coming up here on Sunday.
All that is expected, and Mike, you kind of laid
out how things went yesterday. Each had a Game one
and each result maybe wasn't surprising outside of the Lakers
and how they lost to the Timberwolves, but every way

(04:35):
was different. And it's why I actually think it is
a bigger deal that the Lakers dropped game one last
night or the Timberwolves took Game one, is because if
you look at all the other three games played out,
I expected more from my bucks for some reason. Sure
they can continue to be infatuated with the Pacers and
antics and everything that goes with it, and it's just

(04:57):
it's really getting annoying. If it hasn't gotten annoying, it
already is. And to not be quote unquote ready to
play this really never had a sense that they were
even going to contend in that game. Pacers kind of
keep them at arm's length and Indiana gets the easy victory.
Then you transition to the Clippers and Nuggets, and yeah,
the Clippers let early, but it was neck and neck

(05:19):
throughout the second half. Not surprising at a four or
five matchup Pistons Nicks. How about that Knicks end up
having that twenty one to nothing run or I think
in all Isaac said it was twenty four to three,
but at one point at twenty one in a row
against the Pistons, not surprising, right, Mike, because Nicks have
been there before. It's the Garden, and here are the Pistons,
the new team, the hot team in the NBA, the

(05:41):
young guns, if you will, kind of get their first
taste of playoff experience. And then you have Lebron and
Luca and the Lakers, and it's supposed to be different,
and it's supposed to be the Lakers opportunity to make
a run. And they come out in the first quarter
and they play magnificent and then Minnesota absolutely dominates them.

(06:02):
I mean, Luca had to hit a half court shot
at the end of the third quarter to make it
a sixteen point deficit. And then the Lakers fans are like, oh,
maybe we've got something here. And I don't think I
ever got closer to than ten or eleven at that point.
But that's how bad it was last night. And it's
just if I'm a Lakers fan, I am worried about
it because I know Minnesota shot well, But what is

(06:24):
going to change that is going to make them not
shoot well because it's not just they hit all the shots.
They shot fifty percent. Teams can shoot fifty percent from three.
If I'm a Lakers fan, I'm worried.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
Yeah, you look at look I left the Bucks and
Pacers game off.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Thank you. I appreciate that someice Easter gift.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
You would take your baseball back to them yourself in
good time, because it was funny. We were, you know,
as my brothers and I want to do when we
get together. You know, there's a little bit of a
horse horse betting. And we're in the sportsbook and they
had the volume up for Bucks and and Pacers, and
we're keeping an eye on the game. And when it
got to fifteen and the announcers are trying to sell

(07:05):
that the Bucks had come back, they'd already climbed a
huge mountain to get back to fifteen down, it's like, ah,
here come the Bucks. Like really, you're just assuming the
Pacers aren't going to score again at this point. But
back to the topic at hand, when we look at
where the Lakers are LUCA and defensive lapses. We knew
that would be a case fifty percent from the field,

(07:27):
well from for the point range, and fifty one percent overall,
smaller lineup, athletic lineup. Rudy Gobert played what twenty three
minutes and change, so changing that up along the way.
So keeping the feet moving and defensively, yeah, and being
aggressive was something that you had a great sound clip
from Lebron going well, he knew whatever, whereas JJ Redding's like,

(07:50):
oh well, we didn't anticipate that. It's like, okay, there's
a nice disconnect between your head coach and your your
top star right there. But you hadd several other members
of their squad, Devincenzo Alexander Walker who shot terribly from
three point range. What if they're better? Right, if we
start doing the mixing matching of who's hot who's not
and rolling through, you're looking at a Lakers squad that's

(08:15):
top heavy, and it certainly showed in Game one here
at home when you get absolutely drummed young athletic squad,
deep roster so you don't have to play guys thirty
seven forty minutes a night. Yeah, it's a difficult spot.
Neither their help by the fact that they get the
couple of days off between Games one and Game two.

(08:36):
But yeah, certainly in Lakerland, all the laughing and pointing
at everybody else has to stop.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
It was and I really thought it was nas red,
especially in that first half, gives them energy and it
is a different feel, a little bit of a different
field than it was for them a year ago when
they made their run to the Western Conference finals. Julius
Randall also seemed he didn't have a huge, huge game,

(09:03):
but he had sixteen points, five rebounds, and five assists.
But there was a point where Anthony Edwards went out
with his cramp and had to go in the back,
and you're thinking, maybe that's an opportunity for the Lakers
to make a run. But like it felt like Julius
Randall had something to prove, and he made comments, I
think leading up to the playoffs series as well about

(09:24):
how it just feel feels different and that he feels
like there's something to play for, and it looked like
the Timberwolves had something to play for last night and
it and this isn't a knock on JJ Reddick as
it should be. Maybe a knock on Lebron and Luca,
But the Lakers came out like that team that feels
like they were in the playoffs the first time and
has that great first quarter and feels like, oh, this

(09:45):
is going to be easy, and then it was anything.
But the Lakers are decent defending the three, at least
statistically in the NBA this season, they were top ten
and defensive three point percentage. But Mike, if Minnesota continues
to get those looks that they got, I mean, this
is yeah, this could be over quickly. And then all

(10:06):
of the narratives about Luca and what he didn't bring
and the defense wins championships, comments by Nico Harrison that
were again reiterated in that private meeting earlier this week.
Again we're I know that he wants to make it
about we were trying to get better defensively, but it's
such a slap in the face to Luca. And then
that helps this narrative then continue because it's two fold.

(10:30):
It's yeah, Anthony Davis makes you better, and they the Mavericks,
remember last year, made moves to be better defensively at
the deadline. All of that makes sense, but when it
comes down to it. We're probably talking about Luca the most.
And Luca called the comments sad in that Malika Andrews
interview that he had, you know, just a couple of
days ago. And so then when you give up one
hundred and seventeen points and the team shoots fifty percent

(10:51):
from threes, those narratives are tough to shake, and the
Lakers are gonna have to do it in Game two, you.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
Know, Dan, that's the curiosity here. This is the first
time that I can remember as we go into a
playoff run for going on what twenty years, at this point,
it's not about legacy history and anything else having to
do with Lebron James at all. He's a bystander and all.
It's all front and center. It's Luca, Luca, Luca and

(11:16):
what Luca can and can't be and dunking on the
Mavericks organization and Nico and everything that went on there
that you allude to the interview and sad you know,
did you want to be a Maverick forever? Well, of course,
you know all of those things. You got a guy
that's still in his fields with a lot of this stuff,

(11:38):
and I don't know that he's necessarily prepared for the
onslaught and deluge of commentary and criticism that really amps
up if they don't go deep into these playoffs.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
Yeah, I think you're absolutely right. And this sounds really sinister,
and this sounds maybe below the belt, but you can't
put it past Lebron's camp for putting it all on
Lucas shoulders. Sure, so if it doesn't work out, you
know that there's going to be some sort of spin
in a certain way. And so to your point with that,

(12:14):
what would be different in that situation right now? Luca
could point to and say, hey, I made it to
the NBA Finals last year and now this team I didn't.
And if I'm the constant, then then maybe it's everybody else.
But there is, there is, there are other powers that
the Lebron James and the Clutch Sports crew can you know,

(12:35):
can can wield on others. And if it turns sour, yeah,
look out, it could be all on Lucas shoulders and
not Lebron's despite Luca having the thirty seven last night
and the losing.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Effort, Well, because we know where I mean, You've got
folks in high up in media that are aligned with
clutch sports right, and certainly Lebron apologists line line the
hallways at sports talk radio and TV wherever you go.
And it's not to say that sometimes I would agree
he's been criticized perhaps a bit too idly in spots

(13:08):
and other times coddled. And so this playoff run will
certainly be an interesting litmus test of where we're at
in terms of the winds blowing. And for Luka Doncics,
you want the superstar status, right, We wanted to elevate him,
I guess as a basketball watching public because we're always
trying to find next and who's that guy? And for

(13:30):
Luka Doncics coming to the Lakers, it seemed to all
set up, but it could be a big house of cards.
After a difficult game one, he's Dan Byer at dan
Byro on Fox where you find him find me over

NFL Draft. And there were more buzz in the little
setup they had at the Belagio. It was a nice

(13:50):
display for folks and photos with some giant ass bees.
More buzz created there than I think we've had for
the NFL Draft. We'll try to break it down and
figure it out and as to reasons why coming up next.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
How is the Vegas crowd for this WrestleMania is it?
Can you tell it? I remember when the Super Bowl
was in New York and it felt like it was
just like any other day in Times Square and in Manhattan.
Is it the same with Las Vegas? Or can you
just tell that wrestling fans are here, there and everywhere?

(16:30):
What is the feel like in Las Vegas?

Speaker 1 (16:33):
Here there, everywhere? The old Beatles classic, no question about it.
And no matter where you turn, they've done a good
job with activations, what they've done promotion wise over the
course of the Weekdan is beyond the WrestleMania you know
the hallmark event. You know iteration forty one up on
the Find Your Wins blog. I put up a thing

(16:56):
once upon a time going back to WrestleMania one. My father, Uh,
for whatever reason, we were able to convince my my
parents really didn't let us do a lot of those things,
a lot of no's, but somehow convinced them to let
us go see clos circuit television for WrestleMania one, dropping
us off at a theater Now mind you, my my
younger brother would have been seven years old at this point,

(17:18):
so it's the three brothers getting dropped off and yeah,
we're in the theater and whatever, which you're not doing
here in twenty twenty five. But I would say what
they did is beyond the the WrestleMania, the big marquee
event is you've got all the indies are in town
as well, so you've got a giant wrestling community beyond

(17:39):
the WWE. Yesterday, WWE announced the acquisition of Triple A,
which is a huge Luca League in Mexico. So that
that and you know, going back to expansion kind of
like we've seen in all these other sports with the
global reach. But from the moment I touched down at
the airport, Nan, it's been nothing but act devations. The

(18:01):
big show might remember him. He was sitting there waiting
on confirmation that his ride has arrived, the poor guy
who was like a caged animal with folks going in
and looking for photos and autographs and selfies and whatever else.
And then you saw, you know, the limo drivers with
the surnames on their iPads for who they were picking up,

(18:24):
and a lot of surnames you'd recognize in wrestling lore,
some direct to character, some not. But from that moment on,
people walking around with their three hundred dollars replica belts
all over town. And I lost count of how many
different superstars throughout the years, legends and on, have been

(18:46):
represented in the T shirts and hats and everything else.
It's really been pretty an incredible experience.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
And I'll tell you what, my comment wasn't about WrestleMania
being a big deal. It's actually more just about Las
Vegas and what it is now, because in most communities,
when an event like that does take over, it does
take over the entire city. It's just New York is
so big, and honestly, we're based in southern California, in
Los Angeles. Even when the super Bowl is here, it's

(19:15):
difficult to get a sense that the super Bowl is
here unless you're going to super Bowl related events. But
I would think in most other places, and been fortunate
enough to travel to a bunch, you just know that
the event is there. I just didn't know if Las
Vegas had risen to the point where you're just like, yeah,
they've had so many great things happened to that city,

(19:35):
and there's so much going on that maybe WrestleMania. I
wondered if it would still stand out as much or
if it would just be more of not that it
would be a normal weekend, but that it wouldn't take
over the weekend like it would in a different market.
So it's more about Las Vegas than anything wrestling or
Shui wise.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
Sure, yeah, talking to cab drivers and folks at restaurants
that said, there's been a noticeable bump and that's a
question of tourism dollars right with the economic terms of
the marketplace over the last couple of months, and whether
folks either still went through with their trips or decided
to bail. But certainly money being spent. And I would say,

(20:14):
you know, just activations all over town. And I think
part of it is, you know, how much do you
lean into it, Like when you talk about the super
Bowl in La La has a lot of events, but
everything's spread out, right, Like if you have an NFL event,
it might be forty miles from the actual stage. Here,
it's all within a pretty well confined area convention center

(20:38):
with a lot of you know, signings and their giant
shop and exhibits and everything else. All the way through,
but you know, activations at all sorts of stores and
mobile you know partners and alcohol partners like, hey, you know,
here's a whole lineup. If you wanted to spend all day,
you could have met ten current superstars that were there

(20:59):
at a two hour interval and get them to side
a bottle of vodka for you, Dan, Amazing, amazing, finding
a way to separate you from your money and your time.
Very very good at it, no question about it. As
we rolled forward, more videos and fun at Swollendome later
on today as we get out and about and close

(21:21):
closer to the stadium. But you know, talking about hype
and build up, and that's part of what we love
about these sporting events. You know, you mentioned the super
Bowl heading into the Masters, you know last week and
heading into that final route, like there's that pomp and circumstance,
that pageantry that rolls through. And historically we've added for
the NFL Draft in and and you and I and

(21:43):
I think as a football loving nation that we are
outside of a couple of names, there's there's just not
a lot of chatter a right, It's been sucked up
a lot with all right, Derek Carr got hurt. Okay,
so New Orleans is activated. At nine, you've got the
on again, off again, what's Aaron Rodgers doing? And then
just a lot of noise when it comes to Shador Sanders,

(22:05):
to where even cam Ward Gente, Travis Hunter, and Abdul
Carter have become afterthoughts in this giant what is normally
a parade and pageantry of all right, we're gonna get
this number of guys drafted, and mock drafts rule the day.
I don't I don't get the sense that folks are

(22:25):
diving in at the same level of excitement this year.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
I get. I get that sense as well, and there's
usually this isn't this isn't anything new, This isn't meant
to be a knock on this group of players, but
ultimately it probably will is Mike. I think that there
are three things that make the draft drama. At Number
one always helps when you don't know who's gonna go first. Overall,

(22:49):
that is a that really helps because then you've got
a couple of faces that you know that we're talking about.
Even if you know who's number one, you also need,
like last year, we knew Kylen Williams is going to
go number one, But drama helps. But even if you
know number one, the strength of the class does help

(23:10):
as well. When there are a variety of quarterbacks like
we saw last year with six, that also helps. And
I also think that the teams at the top, like
specific teams that are picking number one. Some teams have
more cachet than others, and no disrespect, but the Tennessee
Titans league wise probably have the least amount of cache,

(23:33):
or almost the least amount of cache than any of
the other thirty one teams. So I think like those
are the three things that play into it. But Mike,
we don't have drama because we know cam Ward's going number.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
One minus twenty thousand Dan.

Speaker 2 (23:44):
Yes, so the drama is out of the books. And
I just don't think it translates down to number two.
I don't think that it's a well, we don't know
who number two is, and now we kind of think
we do know who number two is. But even if
that's the case, I think the Browns are a team
that we've talked about enough in the past that still
have some of that cachet, But that's not doing it
for us. I think ultimately it does come down to

(24:06):
the strength of this class, and even though we have
a college football playoff and a school like Ohio State,
as a bunch of guys stay to try to accomplish
all the things that they wanted to accomplish, so they
stick around a year longer, and maybe a couple of
other players also stuck around a little bit longer in
an nil era. I don't think that that is translated

(24:27):
to our interest in the draft, and I don't know
how much it's translated to improving draft stock by sticking
around another year. It's just ultimately, this isn't a good
draft class, and I don't think that there's anything anything
bad about it. The drama about should Or Sanders is crazy.
I had an alert pop up on my phone today
that told me that cam Ward is the eighteenth best

(24:50):
prospect in someone's rankings, which is something that we've heard,
you know, like a ballpark, and should Or is just
bordering on top forty, and we're wondering if he's going
to go in the top three. And so ultimately, while
you're a Bears fan and you want to know what
they're gonna do at ten, and I'm a Seahawks fan
and They've got two second round picks after the deals

(25:10):
that they you know, the deal they made with DK Metcalf,
and have picks in the third round as well, and
they picked number eighteen. Overall, I'm curious on what they're
gonna do, because that's gonna improve my team. I think
as an overall sense, the lack of the lack of
strength in this draft class is the reason why ultimately
it maybe just doesn't have the cachet that we had
a year ago.

Speaker 1 (25:31):
Yeah, we've got that small group of guys up front
which have taken up a lot of the oction. It
doesn't mean that you won't find gems. And to your point, Dan,
team for team, everybody's got their boards and wants and needs,
and we certainly, you know, as we break those down
and go more granular as we do on the iWatch
of Flex podcast, and you know, as everybody breaks down

(25:52):
their team individually, Yeah, we will by Thursday afternoon, we'll
all be in a lather, right, no question. You'll do
it for your squad, right, You'll be doing it for
the Seahawks. I'll be doing it for the Bears of all. Right,
what are they doing a lot of move with the
offensive line. But from the national perspective, yeah, I mean
you've had the oxygen and most of the talking points. Hell,

(26:14):
there was more of a debate, which you know, we
can circle back to next hour of the Shador Sanders
Jersey retirement than his draft status the last few months. Right, So,
like you know, we're finding the ancillary stories as opposed
to the top line.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
So if you look at even if you just and
I think that the points, the points about the quarterbacks
are interesting because you have teams in this draft that
need quarterbacks. In fact, they're near the top of the draft.
You can't tell me the Browns don't need a quarterback.
You can't tell me the Giants don't need a quarterback,
but they are apparently eschewing those options for a different pick,

(26:52):
and that's also not good for the drama. It is
different when it's Caleb Williams one and Jayden Daniels two,
and JJ McCarthy is taken by the Vikings and Michael
Pennix is a surprise pick, and you know I left
out Drake May Drake May at three, Like it is
a different sort of feel. And there's also the point
that I just I think it's I think it tells

(27:15):
you everything that you need to know aside from the rankings. Again,
every single team has their own first round pick, and
teams know what draft classes are about. So when you're
making these moves in the draft the previous year, you
know that that year is maybe going to be more
important or more stocked than the year before or the

(27:36):
year after. Excuse me. So teams weren't willing to get
a number one pick in twenty twenty five for anything
because they knew the draft class dunk. That's why every
team still has their draft pick, because nobody wanted to
give away something previously for something that wasn't going to
be as valuable right now, and that's this draft class. Yeah,

(27:56):
and so that's that's just the point that I think
there are a lot of reasons why this may not
be as exciting. And I know Chris Profeder technical producer,
wants in, but I think that that is a big
point as well as this draft class just isn't as
good and that's why maybe people just aren't as interested.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
Chris Floors yours come on it.

Speaker 4 (28:12):
I think So I think you're onto something, Dan, and
that there's a more need of quarterback than there are
actually first round quarterbacks available, but even just going beyond that,
so we have besides that, we have Abdul Carter we
all know is going to be the first edge off
the board. We have Travis Hunter, who's probably the best
corner and also the best wide receiver. I don't put
a ton of stock into people know who McMillan is,

(28:33):
who played at Arizona. Sure, and that's that's kind of
where it starts to break down. After that, I cannot
tell you a ton of like, you know, after that,
any other edge who's like grabbed highlight reels, Like I'm like,
I know the name Michael Michel Williams. But like you know,
besides that, it's a lot of interior guards. It's a
defensive tackles. It's where this draft is deepest. Are basically

(28:57):
not sexy positions. They're not positions a lot of people
hone in on. Yeah, there's not besides Travis Hunter, who's
your who's There's not like a massive corner or a
wide receiver who's getting you eye popping numbers. It just
kind of feels like this is It reminds me a
little bit of the twenty thirteen draft, where we had
like the of the four first picks, three of them

(29:17):
were offensive tackles.

Speaker 1 (29:19):
But that's just it, right, You're you're getting this is
the draft that might be the all right, you get
all your glue guys, and they're guys that are there
for seven to ten years and eventually you're beloved by
your you know, teams, fans and writers, right, Chris, with
your your your Detroit podcasts and everything you do that,
all right, these guys becoming endearing, you know, and hallmarks

(29:43):
of a squad versus all right, here's the splash name
for draft purposes. Just not bringing folks to the yard.
As much as I love pancake blocks, oh right, Don't
get me wrong.

Speaker 4 (29:56):
I love the offensive line guys too, but I understand
they're not you know, they're not selling what we do
on the national stage for sure.

Speaker 2 (30:03):
Well, and I also say this, I give dul Carter
we hear, okay, now, as good as Michael Parsons, Travis Hunner.
We don't know if he's going to play wide receiver.
You talk, you talk about the wide receivers like a mecha.
Buka is going to be a first round pick and
he wasn't even the best receiver on his team and
any of the years that he was at Ohio State.

Speaker 4 (30:19):
You Tom Center in this class isn't someone who's actually
taken snaps at center outside of like the super Bowl
in Crazabel and by the way, like a mecha BUCA
left with Ohio State record. So it's not a knockout name.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
It's just the point of when you're talking about top
tier talent like Marvin Harrison Junior was the guy last year.
When Jeremiah Smith enters the draft, he's going to be
that guy. But that's just what you get in this
selection process, and that's why I don't think that there's
the buzz that you normally would get in any other situation.

Speaker 1 (30:50):
Check Out the Pride of Detroit work that Chris does
at Chris Prefet, check out Dan and I at Dan Byron,
Fox at Swollen Dome, as always at Fox Sports Radio four.
But now it's time to take a turn over to
the news desk. We got a guy, Isaac Lowencron ready
to update us on everything is we get ready.

Speaker 5 (31:06):
For tip off from Day two of the NBA Playoffs
that's right coming up just after the top of the hour,
Game one from Oklahoma City between the Thunder and the
Memphis Grizzlies in Game ones. On Saturday night, the Minnesota
Timberwolves defeated the Lakers in LA one, seventeen to ninety five.
As from three point range, the te Wolves hit not one.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
Not two, not three, not four, not five, not six, seven.

Speaker 5 (31:33):
But twenty one three pointers on forty two attempts for
fifty percent. Nosried hit six of them, Anthony Edwards hit
four of them. Jade McDaniels led the Timberwolves with twenty
five points on eleven of thirteen shooting from the field.
Luka Doncus thirty seven for the Lakers in a losing cause,
and we have a Lakers Tea Wolves update. After the

(31:53):
game last night, Lakers legend Magic Johnson unleashed a tweetstorm
of analysis and apparently he hasn't gotten it all out
of his system because literally just seconds ago he had
more post end quote. The Lakers failed in two big
categories in their loss against the Timberwolves. On the defensive end,
they allowed the Timberwolves to shoot over fifty one percent

(32:16):
from the field, and they didn't respond to the physical
play of the Timberwolves. Last, but not least, it was
too much standing around on the Lakers offense and players
watching the Lakers Big three Reeves, Doncic and James go
one on one. We need far more productivity from the
bench unquote. So Magic Johnson dealing with the loss like

(32:39):
many of us do by taking to social media. Meanwhile,
in Game one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Saturday night,
the Colorado Avalanche won of Dallas five to one behind
two goals and an assist from Nathan McKinnon and one.
Major League Baseball note, Shohey O'tani has been activated off
the paternity list and is back in the Dodgers lineup
for their game today at Texas. After his wife gave

(33:00):
birth to their first child yesterday, Otani posted on Instagram,
quote to my daughter, thank you for making us very
nervous yet super anxious parents unquote. By the way, the
Dodgers will be in Chicago on Tuesday and at Cubs.
Fan eight five eight sent his congratulations to Otani by commenting, quote,

(33:21):
couldn't have waited until Tuesday, come on unquote. So the
criticism extends to the timing of labor and delivery among
the sports fans.

Speaker 1 (33:31):
Am on you back to you guys, leaving no stone
on turned at Isaac Low Andcrod where you find it
to check out everything he's got going, including these calls
of Angel City FC. Thanks so much, Ilo. We'll hear
more from Ilo in a couple of minutes as we

that's not the case with WrestleMania. We'll figure that out
as we continue here. He's Dan, I'm Mike, and this
is Fox. Hey, welcome back in tyrack dot Com. Fox
Sports Radio Studios. It's Fox Sports Sunday, Mike Carman alongside

(34:58):
Dan Byer. Happy Easter passover, celebrating another day, getting to
walk the earth. Maybe you're following the heritage. We'll get
into that a little bit next hour, is Dan. I
know i'd be interested observer there as the final round
kicks off. There obviously WrestleMania front and center for me

(35:18):
as I get my pump on. Maybe I'll get a
fake tan before tonight. But what I'll do that while
we get the family together, Dan, because here's the stick microphone.
As I pass it to you.

Speaker 2 (35:26):
Thank you very much. Fox family is together. We're going
to make an adjustment. I originally had ten answers on
the board, Tom constraints forced us to six. All right, oh,
top six answers on the board. What I want to
know from the Fox family that's made up of Mike Harmon,
Chris Purfett, Patrick Sweeka, and Isaac Lohencron. States that have

(35:49):
hosted WrestleMania three or more times. States that have hosted
WrestleMania three or more times, there's a pass available. Three
strikes on the board. Six answers are there, Mike Carmon,
we start with you. Let's start with California, California. It's
got to be number one on the list. Show me
California there. It is seven times it's been in California.

(36:13):
That is the number one answer. Over to Chris Perfett, who.

Speaker 4 (36:17):
I want to almost go a different way, just to
save some better answers for later. So let's try Michigan, Michigan.
That's a great guess, is it Michigan? It is not.
It would have been if we had ten answers on
the board. They've hosted it twice. It just did not
rise to the level of three. Patrick Sweeka over to you,
States that have hosted WrestleMania three or more time. Let's

(36:40):
take you to the East Coast and New York.

Speaker 2 (36:42):
Oh no, no, show me New York. There it is
Madison Square Garden, the home to many WrestleMania, maybe one
or two. I can't be entirely sure. Over to Isaac
Low and Cross.

Speaker 4 (36:57):
States not provinces, correct, that is correct?

Speaker 1 (37:01):
All right?

Speaker 5 (37:01):
Come on United Center, Come on Rosemont Horizon. Now all
state arena, Illinois.

Speaker 2 (37:08):
Show me the Land of Lincoln. There it is three
times Illinois on the board. There are only three states left.
Mike Carmon, back around to you.

Speaker 1 (37:18):
How about we go to Texas.

Speaker 2 (37:22):
Texas. Hey, everything's bigger in Texas, right, Yeah, the lone
star state. Not gonna said the longhornge state. The lone
star state, Texas is on the board with four. Yeah,
it's been in Dallas, it's been in Houston. Yeah, it's
been a bunch of bunch of spots around the great
state of Texas.

Speaker 1 (37:41):
I got to go hang out at and see one
at Jerry's Path.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
All right, right, in your right, in your wheelhouse. Then
let's go do Chris Purfett. Two answers left. States that
have hosted WrestleMania three or more times.

Speaker 4 (37:52):
All right, well, I went on a limb for Michigan.
Let's go a little safer. I'm gonna try Florida, Florida.
That'll be a great place to hold WrestleMania. How about
great place to hold it? Five times? Show me Florida.

Speaker 2 (38:04):
There it is Horida's Florida off the board. So we
have one answer left. I have to eliminate the pass.
Patrick Sweeka over to you.

Speaker 4 (38:16):
Oh, well, you know what, Dan, We're gonna go to
where we're gum bone crawdash.

Speaker 2 (38:21):
We're going. Oh I love it. I love it so much.
Is it Louisiana again? If it would have been a
ten answer, feud, you would have been correct. It's been
twice in Louisiana, and in fact, Mike, I think it's
their next year as well. All right, over to Isaac Glohankron.

Speaker 5 (38:39):
The last answer, literally, the only guess I have left
is where it is right now?

Speaker 4 (38:43):
Nevada?

Speaker 2 (38:44):
Nevada? Is it Nevada? That is not it would have
been if we would have done all ten. Yes, Nevada
is off the board. Do you guys have any other guesses?

Speaker 1 (38:57):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (38:57):
The only one on my mind right now is North Carolina.

Speaker 2 (39:01):
It is not North Carolina. This is gonna be great.
I got one. Yes, Patrick, Pennsylvania. If we would have
done ten, it would have been it would have been
on the list. The answer, the final answer is you
ready for this? Hit it hit me New Jersey.

Speaker 1 (39:23):
Trump Plaza.

Speaker 4 (39:23):
Wait, are we doing this just because of Meadowlands?

Speaker 2 (39:26):
Is that? Is that? What's that? Is correct? But also
it was in Atlantic City for a couple of years
in the early days. Is historic Atlantic City Convention Hall
hosted WrestleMania four and five.

Speaker 1 (39:39):
Hey, there you go, there's our little history lesson. Wait
to go to the squad?

Speaker 2 (39:42):
Yeah, good job.

Speaker 1 (39:43):
We're all leathered up and ready to go. Thanks to Chris,
Thanks to Patrick, Thanks to Ilo at Dan Byron Fox
where you find Dan find me over at Schwallen Dome.
We turned back into the NBA Playoffs. Maybe a villain
for reasons not of his doing. We'll talk about it
next readings and welcome in hour two of the program
Fox Sports Sunday. Here for the tyrack dot Com Studios.

should be dan Our two in the NBA Playoff Action

(40:27):
getting ready to heat up again. But we've also got
the final round of the Heritage coming off of the
big ratings and boost from the Masters. You know, are
you fired up for around four today?

Speaker 2 (40:39):
I'll tell you what I am in for a couple
of reasons. Number one, I've been fortunate enough to play
this course on Hiltonhead, the RBC Heritage. It is a
very unique and in fact, it's the TV coverage that
made me wanted to go and play it, just because
of how tight and narrow, and it's a peat dye design.
Even though you open up and you have the infamous

(41:02):
lighthouse on the eighteenth hole, there's a lot that went
with it, and I said, you know what if I
ever get the opportunity paid full price mic there was
no freeing with that one, but it was worth it
to see it. And this is a course that just
guys are scoring low. You're seeing scores right now. Guys
are at fifteen under par. Rudos could get the twenty

(41:24):
under par but that's okay, and it's a course that
is probably like in the grand scheme of things, would
be phased out as golf continues to expand and the
game gets longer and longer and longer. There's not a
lot of spots on this course that you can make
holes longer and make holes more difficult just because of

(41:45):
the routing and where it is. So it's very much
on accuracy of the players talk about it every time
they go to the course that they wish they saw
more courses like this. Just a ton of trees. You
got to be accurate off the tee and if you
can and placing your ball in the fairway in the
right spot, you could get some low scores. But I
have no problems with it. It's a signature event this year,

(42:07):
so it's a limited field, but you get top names
and a really good leaderboard this weekend.

Speaker 1 (42:12):
Yeah, you got Scheffler tied for seventh. You've got Brian Harmon,
not the same surname, h R m An that's my
little brother's name at twelve under Kim. Yeah, Thomas one
stroke back as we get ready to start, and they'll
tee off what in a little less than an hour
as we get off here on a beautiful Fox Sports Sunday,

(42:34):
it is Easter Sunday. Passover all of those. However, you're
celebrating whatever you're celebrating today, Thanks for making us part
of your day to and from services, walking the dog,
maybe having a nice brunch, getting ready for the events
of today. Me I'm heading over to Allegiant Stadium and
the fun and excitement that is WrestleMania coming up in

(42:55):
a bit. We had some news, I mean the card change,
So I'm losing one of my favorite wrestlers and part
of the card. Now what happened for tonight? Bailey has
been scratched, so you know we we now will have
a new partner. It leads into potential storyline building. But
you know, they've had a couple of injuries that have
marred the card as well and forced some last minute changes.

(43:17):
But so I lose Bailey, who's one of one of
my favorites. Getting after Good Talker, the Hugger was the
persona for a bit, but also in the in the
world of college basketball.

Speaker 2 (43:28):
By the way, I'm sorry for my ignorance. I assume
Bailey is a female wrestler. Female wrestler Okay, all right,
I just wanted to I assume that there was somebody
else like me out there that maybe wasn't necessarily familiar.
She was, she's in a women's tag team.

Speaker 1 (43:43):
Yeah, so we're looking at, you know, one of the
big matches for later on today that the tag titles
and and and now she's out. But yeah, you got
Cody Rhoades, John Cena Cina in the Farewell Turn and
did the heel turn a few weeks back, which we'll see.
What the next angle is is whether the Rock shows
up there the tag championship a street fight one that's

(44:06):
still an open challenge, so potential chaos. But you know, saddened,
you know, with that news, because I mean, I didn't
want to leave it as a breaking news for Isaac Lohanngron.
I didn't know if it rose to that standard.

Speaker 2 (44:18):
Dan.

Speaker 1 (44:19):
But we also Jeff Goodman reporting that our guy Doug
Gottlieb signed a first team Junior College All American this
morning in Lebron. Thomas.

Speaker 2 (44:28):
Doug did wait guard, Doug did post a phoenix rising
Giff or Jiff, however you want to say it, yesterday,
so you knew something was something was happening, Doug ed
been to a variety of junior college games and tournaments
this year and now it's reaping the rewards.

Speaker 1 (44:48):
As we will keep an eye on the roster building
there as he enters year two a program building. But
you know we've got the NBA playoffs. But since we
do have that little bit of news, it's the last
couple of weeks Dan much been made and I know
Doug was talking about the lawsuits that's out there about
eligibility and the five year rule, and it begets a

(45:12):
larger conversation of you know where it all ends, right.
The start is for a particular individual trying to get
eligibility coming out of the junior college system right and
wondering when clocks begin and end right when those terms
are but the the transfer portal, you know, a lot

(45:33):
of hand ringing, and to me it comes back to
the it's never any fun when the the the power
is on the in the other his hands. Right. For years, coaches,
administrators and schools trying to make sure we use the
right analogies and and and terms, but just the idea

(45:55):
that now all right, players empowerment and we saw it
with the NBA right where players I don't want to
I don't want to play here. I'm gonna move here,
and and team ups and whatever. And you saw ownership
kind of bristle at that, and it still happens, but
it's not as upfront and center as we're looking at
the college game with a number of players that enter

(46:16):
the transfer portal and folks bemoaning the freedom and the
dollars involved, and it's like, it's now a free market economy.
That's that's what you've created.

Speaker 2 (46:28):
It's it's no, it's crazy, Mike, because I think that
we always loved kids staying in school for the most part,
until like something like this all of a sudden comes
up and people are like, hey, wait a second. That's
that's the curveball with me. When people are well five,
you know, five years just no matter what, and you
can use them however you want, Like that would for

(46:52):
guys that had four years of eligibility, like this could change,
Like there's it's funny to me on how we're always
for it, for it forward until we're against it. And
I mean, if you got a five year window, that's
perfect if you want to use it. I always looked
at it as a five year window anyway, and if
you were good enough, you know, then you didn't need
the five years. But otherwise otherwise it would be fine.

(47:14):
But I just find it funny that there's there's pushback,
that there would be pushback for something that seems something
like we wanted the whole time, or would be four
at least for the whole time.

Speaker 1 (47:24):
But that's that's just it, right. We love something until
we get it right. It's not what you expected. It's like,
all right, I wanted this toy out of the wished
book growing up, right, the J. C. Penny or whatever
you might have gotten. I'm really showing my age here
is you'd get it and you'd circle a couple of things,
and then it would one of them would show up.
I was like, well, that's not nearly as big as
I thought, or boy, the functionality really not getting it?

(47:49):
Like now I've got transformers that I could press a button,
they'll actually transform and you know, autobots roll out back.
Then I was like, wait, I got to do all
that by hand, and if I miss, I probably break
this plastic piece and he'll never transform again. So yeah,
it's not what I wanted. And now we've got the
ability to move and dollars and being transacted, and I

(48:12):
was like, well, I don't really like this, Like all right,
so come up with the alternative and now try to
put that genie back in the bottle. When we're talking
about half a million dollars from the basketball side for
a rotational player, I don't think anything's going back into
the good night because folks are getting a taste of
what the larger, multi billion dollar organization has always been

(48:34):
siphoning off.

Speaker 2 (48:35):
Yeah, it's right when you think everything is working out
and going well the way that you wanted it. In
collegiate sports, people end up having a problem with a
new thing. I'm totally fine with it. College records don't
matter to me because there's so many different levels, so
many different things different than professional records or what we
look at in Major League Baseball. Of the NFL, guys

(48:55):
are around five years and want to break a record,
go right ahead.

Speaker 1 (48:58):
That's just it, right play as long as you need
to there, You go, as long as someone's willing to
give you your eligibility and keep going. I got to
think at some point you max out. I know that
you try to put age restrictions because we've certainly had
it the other way. Right, when you look at football,
you've got to be X number of years removed for
the women's side. For college basketball, right, you've got to

(49:20):
be a certain age or years removed. So maybe some
of those stoppers on either end get xcized and we
bravely forge ahead. We've got plenty more on the NBA
playoffs as we roll through Memphis and OKC getting underway.
We talked about it. Point spreads twelve and a half
or higher for three of the games today Golden State

(49:42):
Houston later on, but we had the big trade that
changed the NBA for twenty four and twenty five and
still doesn't sit right all these months later. We'll talk
about that as we continue. At Dan Byer on Fox
where you find Dan find me over at Swollen Dome.
You can calm the chaos with the shipping software that delivers.

(50:04):
You'd go use Code Sports for a free trial at
shipstation dot com. At shipstation dot com code sports, and
be sure to tune into Fox Sports radios Draft Night Live,
which is Thursday night at eight pm Eastern throughout the
first round of the draft. NFL insider Jay Glazer, former
Jets general manager Joe Douglas College Football Hall of Famer

(50:24):
LeVar Arrington and Fox Sports Lead college football reporter Jenny Tapp.
They've got you covered for all thirty two picks with
predictions and reactions. That's Thursday at eight pm Eastern throughout
the first round of the Draft, live here on Fox
Sports Radio and with a live video simulcast on the
Fox Sports Radio YouTube page. All brought to you by Shipstation. Hey,

(50:47):
welcome back in Fox Sports Radios. Fox Sports Sunday by
Carmen dan Bayer with you as we come here from
the tirac dot Com studios here at Danbyro on Fox
where you find and find me over at Swollen Dome.
And something we talked about a little bit earlier, it's
the ongoing saga that is the Luka Doncic's trade and
the ramifications thereof. As we keep an eye on early returns.

(51:12):
Thunder or a four point lead over the Grizzlies, Game
one of their series underway, but Luca and the Lakers
take a big beating from the Timberwolves last night. Even
Luca goes for thirty seven, but you see the hot
shooting from the t Wolves fifty from three point fifty
one percent overall. So the physicality questions and defensive questions

(51:33):
and all of those that have been swirling in the
background come full bear in Game one, a huge home
playoff loss for the Lakers. But it's still simmering in
the background are all of the Luca narratives going back
to the trade and the trade itself for Nico and
Nico Harrison and for the Dallas Mavericks of how that

(51:54):
trade came to pass. Now part of it becomes the
here they go loading up in the league, lowing up
the Lakers again. But it becomes the all right returns
because you'd harken back to times when David Stern would
use the long arm of the NBA law to have that,
you know, the hook like used to have on those
variety shows of the seventies when someone was poorly performing

(52:18):
and you'd say no, no, no, not so fast, and David
Starr would do those kind of things, no no, no,
the famously the Chris Paul move that got negated. But
it becomes the all right, is malfeasan's on part of
your GM And now I argued, you know, for the
Mavericks would have been an interesting squad to watch had
Kyrie an Ad and everybody has stayed healthy and their

(52:41):
front line came back in line for the playoff early
departure here. But Ad gets hurt right away, and immediately
it becomes the see that's what I told you. In
my head, I keep picturing the Shannon Sharp gift when
he's leaning back in his chair, going see, see that's
what I told you what happened. But now it really
falls under the microscope because over the next two months,

(53:03):
you know, should the Lakers go on a tremendous run,
Nico will be vilified further by the larger NBA community,
not just those in Dallas. But if it fall falls apart,
how much does he get to, you know, take at
least a little mini victory lap, particularly if Luca's defense

(53:23):
can be highlighted as a problem.

Speaker 2 (53:25):
I'm sure that he will take some appreciation in that
and want to give you a little I told you so.
The Mavericks are completely different, Like that's the unfortunate thing
for him is You're right, like the Kyrie Irving injury,
through everything out the window. I think people actually forget
at times that Kyrie was lost for the season, as

(53:46):
crazy as that sounds, because you look at the Mavericks.
You look at them as a tendency to c c HA.
Look look what you did. You shouldn't have traded Luca.
They would have been a different team. Now. I was
completely against the trade for so many reasons, But Mike,
I think that Nico Harrison would probably take some you know,
some solace in that that he would that he was
maybe right at least in this occasion. But again, this

(54:08):
trade was never about this season or this occasion. It
was about a foundation in Dallas, a player that the
city and the fan base just absolutely loved. And no
matter what happens on the court, Nico Harrison will never
escape that. What I do find interesting is if you're
outside of Dallas or outside of Los Angeles, are just
not a Lakers fan or a MAVs fan. Luca was

(54:30):
a guy that I liked watching, I cheered for. In fact,
I got my son a Mavericks. Suresey, if you will
nice yes of Luka Dantcich with the Mavericks. It's you know,
there's certain players that will do that for I got
them a Saquon Barkley one at the at the super
Bowl for the Eagles. Because there's players that you just

(54:52):
like there are guys that are just good guys, and
I felt that that Luca was one of those guys
in that category, and Mike similar to where he you
are right now with John Cena and the WWE. It's
hard to see Luca in that heel turn. And I
know Laker fans love it. Laker fans are head over
heels with having Luka Doncic on their team. Now, maybe

(55:15):
not right at this minute considering what happened last night,
but again, he had thirty seven in a losing effort.
But me, being a basketball fan, I'm now cheering against Luca.
And that's last year when the Mavericks were facing the
Timberwolves in the Western Finals, I was pulling for the
MAVs to see what Luca could do and the type
of run that they were on. And then in a

(55:35):
year's time now the Timberwolves are facing Luca again, and
this time he's on a Lakers team, and I'm cheering
for the Timberwolves. Last night, I'm like, yeah, Nasreen, you
do what you you gotta do. So it's the trade
had so many ramifications, but I don't think we ever
talk about the casual fan just maybe also losing out

(55:57):
on it because they were fans of Luca. I think
every player in the NBA or Major League Baseball or
or the NFL has that quality. I think Shohey has
that ability where you just obviously because he's just such
a superstar that you're going to be drawn to him.
But when he goes to the Dodgers, it's like, oh geez,

(56:18):
if you're not a fan of the Dodgers, right, like,
like you're just like sure any other team you could
have gone to. And I feel kind of that's like
the same way with Luke of it's kind of the
rich getting richer. And I'm using two LA based, you know,
sports icons to to use this argument, but I think
it's fair. It's like Kevin Durant. There was so much
with Kevin Durant leaving Oklahoma City and when he did,

(56:39):
and how they were so close, and then he goes
to the Warriors to make them unbeatable, but they were
also a brand at that point. And if Luca would
have gone to Boston, if Luca would have gone to Miami,
I think I would have had the same sort of feelings.
Him going to the Lakers kind of put him in
a heal mode now instead of a baby face for
me as I'm now cheering against them, and I think

(56:59):
that it's ramification. We never really considered because we just
broke down so much on what Nico Harrison wanted and
what would happen to the MAVs community and whatnot.

Speaker 1 (57:10):
Yeah, we started breaking down all the trades that could
have been right. Yeah, going through the simulator, here's what
Luca should have gone for in the open market. And look,
it's all Domino's falling. You don't know if this is
the first piece of some long play. You've got the
relationship between the gms, the curiosity. For me, and this
is where I get into my my sports business nerd.

(57:32):
Part of it is how much you lose not just
Luca as a player, but Luca the brand, the brand
dollars that are attached to it, right, because look at
you brought up show hey, so it's the perfect one
to one. Here is the Angels lost so much money
in brand advertising from Japan, signage and everything when Shohy

(57:59):
goes to the Dodge, right, So not only do you
lose a star player, you lose all of that marketability,
all the tourism that was coming to Anaheim. Well, I
mean they're still coming to Los Angeles greater, but they
go to Disney and they're not necessarily going over just
going to see Angels games at this point, and you know.

Speaker 2 (58:20):
Trout's having a great start of the season, maybe they
should and.

Speaker 1 (58:23):
They do it. They still draw right every year they
draw up the gates. But but you're not getting those
ancillary business deals where now those are all on top
of the Dodgers, which is why when he signed the
seven hundred million dollar deal and be like this is crazy,
Like no, no, the math really really makes sense in
a million different ways. Likewise, with Luca in Dallas, you
had a lot of marketing and merching, merchandising opportunities globally

(58:48):
that are no longer.

Speaker 2 (58:49):
There for the Mavericks, Yes, go right out the window
and Mike and we know they're both different. I mean
they're different slightly the way because Luca was traded showy
free agent, Like we totally hadstand that. I as a
Seahawks fan, I have seen what life is like without
Russell Wilson as your quarterback. Now on the field hasn't

(59:10):
changed a bit, right, that is magnificent. But you want
to talk about brand exposure across the NFL. They are
now back into being a have not when it comes
to exposure. And when you have like that quarterback and
you have Russell Wilson as your guy, you're getting Sunday
night games, you're getting Monday night games, you're on Thursday

(59:30):
night and now it's all right another uh you know
one oh five local time kickoff or one twenty five.
You're not getting the primetime access. And I think that
the Dallas Mavericks are going to be in that sort
of you know category. Now they're not one of the
marquee teams. Luca had them in that spot, but the
moving on from him just completely changed everything. And they

(59:54):
aren't the Dallas Mavericks that you thought. I mean, they
were a marquee brand. Maybe not a top brand like
the Lakers or Warriors, but they were something. And now
they just kind of fall into the also rans of
the NBA, which is a tough spot to be in.

Speaker 1 (01:00:09):
Yeah, certainly, falling off you fall hard, especially the way
they broadcast games, because we've certainly seen those grids for
each sport. All right, what are your national prime time opportunities? Yeah,
very very few. I mean, we do it with the NFL.
Every time the big TV slate comes out, it's like,

(01:00:30):
all right, how many Sunday night games does my team
have now in Chicago? For many years you knew they'd
be on against the Packers and some of those big
games and cross conference games. But otherwise, like no, they're
one oh five, Yes, nice and early, So we get
that early window and I guess you know, you get
to come on Eric in the afternoons, if you know,

(01:00:52):
football wise, you're back at in Red Zone radio afternoon.
I mean, the Seahawks angst will be gone as opposed
to having the even die with each possession there.

Speaker 2 (01:01:01):
Dad, Well, that's the problem is that the games are
going on when we're doing it, and it's tougher to
watch to see because it's much easier when they were
playing half their games either on Monday night, Sunday night
or Thursday night or whatever the case may be. But
it is it is a different feel, like like we're
seeing a commander's team that was I think persona non
grata for you know, a decade or two sans you know,

(01:01:22):
a flash with RG three, Like even with Kirk Cousins,
they were, yeah, they were good, but they weren't drawing
people in. Now when the schedule comes out next month,
you're going to see Commanders getting Monday night games, Sunday
night games, and the whole deal. Like they are going
to be a marquee draw because of Jade and Daniels
and what he has done and Dallas is losing out

(01:01:43):
on that. I mentioned the Seahawks. You want to know
what the funny joke is with the Seahawks through through
their message boards and blogs and fan sites is every
year is the the television broadcasts will go to commercial
when the Seahawks are on the clock because nobody wants
to talk about what the Seahawks needs are. And so

(01:02:03):
it's a funny thing along the lines like, oh what
a what a great pick? All right, Seahawks are on
the clock, they'll make their selection next NFL draft kids,
Like that's the joke of the networks. Don't want to
sit there and spend time talking about the Seahawks as
a team and what they might need, so they just
go to commercial because they're irrelevant. They're even more irrelevant
without Russell Wilson. And that's it's a completely different feel

(01:02:26):
as it was for that decade.

Speaker 1 (01:02:27):
Well, you just have to keep hoping that you get
your player like Nicola Jokic during that Taco Bell commercial
that becomes a Seahawks superstar of the future.

Speaker 2 (01:02:38):
It's like when I grew up, That's what was the
whole deal. Like the Shots were irrelevant even when they
went to Super Bowl forty. They were irrelevant, but they became,
you know, they became the cool kids when Pete Carroll
and Russell Wilson ended up teaming up.

Speaker 1 (01:02:51):
And now the cool kids are here with Pete Carroll
in Las Vegas. Or that's what they're trying to tell me. Hey,

we'll take a turn into sports and entertainment where they mix.
Because you raise an interesting point in our pre show conversation,
Dan of where's WrestleMania fitting all this larger parade of
greater sporting events. We'll do that in a minute, but

(01:03:33):
first it's Isaac Lohencron an update of what's going on
in our sporting.

Speaker 5 (01:03:37):
Universe, and that parade includes the NBA Playoffs. Today's action
is underway with Game one from Oklahoma City. The Thunder
out to a nineteen to fifteen lead over the Memphis Grizzlies.
Oklahoma City seven out of eighteen for thirty nine percent,
Memphis seven out of nineteen from the field for thirty
seven percent. John Moran of Memphis two out of six

(01:03:59):
from the field to begin this game. Coming up next
to three point thirty Eastern Game one from Boston between
the Celtics and the Orlando Magic and Major League Baseball Show.
Hey O Tawny was activated off the paternity list. He
is back in the Dodgers lineup for their game today
at Texas after his wife gave birth to their first child.
Today's action about to get in her way with nine

(01:04:19):
games including the Mets hosting the Cardinals and the Marlins
visiting the Philadelphia Phillies, who today are celebrating the forty
seventh birthday of the Philly Fanatic mascott and get this
piece of trivia.

Speaker 1 (01:04:33):
Guys.

Speaker 5 (01:04:33):
The person who designed and created the Philly Fanatic, a
woman named Bonnie Erickson, also created Miss Piggy, as well
as Statler and Waldorf from The Muppets.

Speaker 1 (01:04:45):
Back to you. Wow, that's something Stadler, that's a little bit.

Speaker 2 (01:04:50):
Let's use that at Easter dinner. That's put that in
the back bocket. Just credit Isaac with it.

Speaker 1 (01:04:55):
I gotta say, you gotta have that there, Philly Fanatic
forty seven years old. You know. I was certain some
trading cards the other day and I found a nineteen
eighty two Donrus of the San Diego Chicken.

Speaker 2 (01:05:05):
That was something how much? How much is a card
like that worth? Ah?

Speaker 1 (01:05:09):
Well, I think if you got it graded do you
might actually have some value.

Speaker 2 (01:05:12):
That's what I tho.

Speaker 1 (01:05:13):
Not so much.

Speaker 4 (01:05:14):
Oh no, yeah, hey guys, I got a quote for you.
I gotta callit for you.

Speaker 5 (01:05:18):
Yeah, as of right now on eBay, Yeah, a whopping
thirty nine ninety nine, although according to PSA card dot Com,
whatever that means. Yeah, yeah, a PSA Grade ten can
go for two hundred and ninety two dollars and ninety

(01:05:39):
one cents. I suppose if it's in mint mint condition.

Speaker 1 (01:05:41):
Yeah, that's so, that would be a gen ten. So
that goes PSA is a grading system, so on a
scale of one to ten, I loo with the the
ten being the pristine right fresh out of the pack,
no surface damage, no corner damage, no edge damage, all
of those. The fact that someone's trying to get thirty
nine to ninety five for a base ungraded dan. If

(01:06:03):
I could get thirty nine ninety five, I think I've
won the lottery.

Speaker 2 (01:06:07):
Oh imagine what the San Diego chicken card's gonna be
worth in twenty years from now, Like someone.

Speaker 1 (01:06:13):
Well, it's more of them get, you know, thrown into
the dumpster, the junk wax era that that we've come
to know and love in the sport.

Speaker 2 (01:06:23):
You're talking cards, not actual chickens, right that not actual chickens.

Speaker 1 (01:06:26):
No, no, no, all right. Look I love nothing more
than a nice like. I consume more chicken than anything,
so plenty of ways to I've got like four cookbooks
that are nothing but chicken recipes. I got problems, what
can I say?

Speaker 2 (01:06:40):
I got some brining right now in the fridge.

Speaker 1 (01:06:42):

Speaker 2 (01:07:44):
We'll take it with the cam Ward right.

Speaker 1 (01:07:46):
You know, minus twenty thousand right off the jump. But
something you and I were going back and forth on wrestling, right,
the sports and entertainment bridge. That's what It's always been. Spectacle,
no question about it. And as we've watched with most
of our our high profile events, more and more building
up conventions and displays around them. Right, we talked about

(01:08:09):
the Final Yeah, it's a full week, you know, conferences,
come on in and you know, play Papa Shot and
meet a bunch of legends everything else. The super Bowl
has its full week of activities and for WrestleMania, much
the same. So trying to figure out on the pantheon
of all of these, you raised the idea of where
does WrestleMania fit.

Speaker 2 (01:08:27):
I look at it in an interesting sort of way
because I'm not a fan, but I'm a sports fan,
and I got to tell you one of the one
of the top ten things, maybe top five things that
hurt my senses, Like it just offended my senses When
I saw it was a few years ago when Sports
Center was giving WWE results as part of their evening

(01:08:51):
package that so and so won that match, because to me, like,
that's that was not news as an event. If it's
a part of script, then it's written out. I know
that it may seem like it was a match, and
I'm not taking anything away from the athletic abilities, but
they are following a script and the outcome is predetermined,

(01:09:13):
and that is not what you have in sports. And
so I was completely offended by it, and so I
looked at it like from a way of all right,
how is wrestling viewed. Is it viewed as just borderline
like outside sports because of the extreme athleticism of these athletes,
or do you look at it as outside of the

(01:09:35):
sports circle but closer to it, maybe like in orbit,
if you will, in a different galaxy of the drama
of the world. Because that's how I look at it,
like I don't consider it sports because the outcome is predetermined,
and that is the ultimate reason why I love the showmanship,
I love everything that comes with it. To me, it's
a it's a mending of like a I guess, Mike

(01:09:57):
and you would know more about it. For me, is
a marvel, you know, sort of like superhero movie world
and a sports world coming together as one. But I
just don't think that it's sports wise. And I'm curious
at how you, because you're in it, how you look
at it, and how other people would also look at me.

Speaker 1 (01:10:14):
Yah certainly marvel at the physical dominance and the you know,
different maneuvers like watching you know, a three hundred and
fifty pounds man cat have pulled himself off of the ropes,
you know, upside down and doing flips. Just will continue
to it's amazing, confuse me and then make me think
of my shortcomings and how I need to get back

(01:10:36):
in the gym. But we'll save that for another time.
But you know, the the athleticism certainly there, the training,
the injuries are real, the bumps, the bruises we've certainly seen,
you know, through the years. The tail of the tape,
as far as that goes, I found curious because he
did this morning right. It is WrestleMania, so it's going
to get more boost. But if you go to the

(01:10:59):
front page of any of the big websites, results from
last night or the third or fourth link down including
photos of Paul Hayman and Seth Rollins or Jay Uso
or whoever else, they're using for their story, so still
getting it's run and not relegated to the blog, so
trying to figure out how to wrap it in your

(01:11:19):
arms around it. But yeah, I think it does go
into more of the Marvels superhero yeah element to it,
and I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

Speaker 2 (01:11:28):
And that was That's exactly what I was going to say.
I just when the outcome is predetermined, because it is,
like there's there's not like all right, guys, John Cena
and the Rock you guys just figure out whoever wins
wins like no, like like it's.

Speaker 1 (01:11:42):
Just building a bigger story.

Speaker 2 (01:11:44):
Yeah, Like like like they could have had it on
the six o'clock Sports Center because even though the match
hadn't happened, because the outcome was there, right, like, there's
there's some drama to it, Like that's the point of
it. It has nothing to do with what these men and
women are doing athletically in the ring, Absolutely zero to
do about that. It's just of how for for my
stance of it, because there is so much athleticism involved

(01:12:08):
in it, but I just can't look at it in
the sports world because of the predetermined outcome.

Speaker 1 (01:12:13):
Yeah, I guess from the the larger to to envelop
and bring the rest of our sporting conversations in. I mean,
look at the amount of time we spend on what
Aaron Rodgers has to say in an interview with Pat McAfee.
I mean, it's more it's as much drama as any
wrestling thing at the point, right, right, because if we

(01:12:34):
just limited it to the on field.

Speaker 2 (01:12:37):
But that's real. But that's but that's real, like like
John Cena and who's scene. I'm sorry, Like it's it's
the Rock and Sena against Cody Rhoads or the Rocks.

Speaker 1 (01:12:47):
The Rocks part of the equation, Yes, but it's just Sena.

Speaker 2 (01:12:50):
Versus Scena versus Rhoades, right, Okay, but they're probably friends
behind the scenes, or they get along, like Rogers and
Aaron Glenn for some reasons, just aren't on the same page.

Speaker 1 (01:13:01):
No, sure, sure, but yeah, the only point I'm making
is that we do a lot with the drama that's
gotten really nothing to do with the the on field,
Like months later, the fact that we're still fascinated by
Aaron Rodgers and his exit and trying to set up
a timeline of what happens, like they're not playing together anymore.
I don't care. Sure I'm done with Aaron Rodgers. I

(01:13:24):
bring him up because he's, you know, perpetually on the
list of things. All right. We joked about it Smith
and I about two weeks ago. Every day we're gonna
have a Sheer Door Sanders story, and until Aaron Rodgers
is wearing a uniform or he's hanging out on a
beach full time, we're gonna have Aaron Rodgers stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:13:39):
That's where it bleeds into the Hollywood world. Yeah, you know,
like of maybe not of the stunts and the superhero
stuff you see, but more of the gossip TMZ sort
of angle of it is. Those worlds blend.

Speaker 1 (01:13:51):
It's really an interesting mix.

Speaker 2 (01:13:53):
Yeah. And I just I look at wrestling on the
outside of the sports world, despite it being one of
the most athletic events that you could you could see,
it's just it's all because of the script and the
predetermined outcome.

Speaker 1 (01:14:05):
Yeah, and I would defend whoever the producer was at
Sports Center, because if you didn't have a bunch of
AA block kind of stuff, you're drawing eyeballs, right, You're
drawing heat. And let's face it, there are a lot
of a lot of contracts and a lot of dollars
exchanged and carrying a lot of those programs. So yeah,

(01:14:25):
they get in.

Speaker 2 (01:14:26):
Well, then look at the what happens if it's the
Jeopardy oft came remember and Darren Ravel ruined like the
streak of a Jeopardy contestant at one point. Oh yeah,
and other people didn't get to see it, Like there's
drama in seeing that. But that's like the point of
I get it. People want to know the results. But
if the results were written at six o'clock Eastern time,
then report it at the six o'clock Eastern Times Sports

(01:14:47):
Center and not at night as it played out.

Speaker 1 (01:14:51):
I look forward to whatever tonight is and I'll be
coming back with breaking news. I'm making to sag or
do it Dan, It's good at Damn Yer on Fox

fall out because we had that spring game and a
jersey retirement. Are we making way too much of it?
We'll talk about it next here on Fox Welcome back

(01:15:33):
in Fox Sports Radio. It's Fox Sports Sunday, My Carbon
alongside Dan Bayer. Thanks for being with us. Coming up
in ten minutes. You got Husky and Hartman taking you
through your day. However you're celebrating a Sunday. It is
Easter Sunday. Passover all of these things converging Greek Easter.
We grab them up and however you're celebrating whatever you're

(01:15:53):
celebrating on a beautiful Sunday. Thanks for giving us a
few minutes of your time. Being part of the extended family.
You can take us with you wherever you go on
the iHeartRadio app, Lock and load there. Certainly twenty four
to seven with all of the latest as we get
towards Draft Day for the National Football League, all the
coverage of today's NBA playoff games, the final round of

(01:16:16):
the Heritage, everything we've got going. Dan and I. We're
pleased to be part of your listening experience. We appreciate you.
No question at Dan Byron Fox where you find Dan
find me over at Swollen Dome. One of the things
mantra and I try to do it in my own
life and some days you fall short. But it's all
about finding the wins, right, find the wins is the phraseology.

(01:16:40):
And you know little things, a little victories that you
have along the way. And this week it was in
the sporting world Dan a lot with Shador Sanders Travis
Hunter getting their jerseys retired as part of Colorado's spring
game activities, and it really caused a lot of anger.
Now I missed a couple of days, taking a little
bit of time to hang with my brothers, taking care

(01:17:01):
of some personal business, so I know this was hot
and heavy to me. I just kind of shrug and
want to give everybody a hug, like I feel bad
for Cordel Stewart and some of the other Buffaloes of
the of the past. But it was like, is this
really the place to to get the pitchforks and torches
out on?

Speaker 2 (01:17:21):
I found it interesting on how many people then cared
about the history of Colorado football.

Speaker 1 (01:17:26):
No, he really get fast right, yes?

Speaker 2 (01:17:28):
Yes, And bringing up Cordell Stewart's name. And the funny
thing was is there were maybe about five or six
names that you could have used, Eric the Enemy, you know,
darien Hagen. There are a bunch of bunch of guys
that you could mention from those great teams thirty some
years ago, but those names weren't mentioned. The only one
that they could could go to was Cordell's doing right,

(01:17:51):
which showed the depth that they that so many of
those that were mad had about Colorado football. It doesn't
bother me. I don't care. If they want to retire
every number and run out there in letters and ampersands,
in whatever, then do it. Then that's fine. It's a
new day in college athletics, it's a new day in
college football. Who's to say that somebody doesn't wear two again?

(01:18:14):
I mean, Ohio State retired forty five for Archie Griffin
and Andy Katz, and Moyer was a recruit wanted to
wear forty five. Hey, arch she said, Okay, if Kats
and Moore wears it, yeah, go ahead. If he commits
to the Buckeye shirre Sure enough. It happens like like
hold on a second here, Mike. Also, in college football,
when offensive players and defensive players wear the same number

(01:18:38):
