There’s a range of emotions in the United States following Election Day.

Donald Trump has claimed a likely win, securing more than the 270 Electoral College votes needed to secure the presidency.

While Kamala Harris is yet to formally concede, CNN projects that Trump will secure 276 votes, and Harris only 223.

US Correspondent Mitch McCann told Ryan Bridge the mood was sombre at the Democratic watch party in Detroit, the event even closing down early as everyone was going home.

On the other hand, he says there are a lot of happy Republicans, with one of his contacts feeling “like a million bucks!!!!!”.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Donald Trump has taken well, pretty much everything you could
possibly want from this election at this stage. Mitch McCann's
a US correspondents with US Live from Detroit, Michigan. Mitch,
what are people saying? What's reaction like on the ground there?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Yeah, good morning, Ryan. Well. I spent last night, in
the last couple of hours at the Democratic watch party
here in Detroit, and I can tell you he wasn't
much of a party. The music might have been playing,
but there was no one on the dance floor and
people were leaving early. We actually had to go outside
to do some work because they shut the event down
and turned off the lights because everyone was going home. Now.
As I've just come on here with you, I text

(00:34):
this morning a Republican contact, a man named Brian Panabecker.
He started a group called Auto Workers for Trump twenty
twenty four, a big Republican supporter. He told me for
a long now, in the last couple of months that
Donald Trump was going to win easily in the state.
I text him, how are you feeling, Brian, and he
just replied, as you came on the air and said
like a million bucks with five exclamation points. So there's

(00:55):
a lot of happy Republicans.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Here. Are we going to hear from Krmala Harris?

Speaker 2 (01:00):
We are, we're going to hear from her. It's reported
around four pm Eastern time, which bind my estimations is
around midday in New Zealand. She's going to address a crowd,
I believe at Howard University where she had hoped to
give a victory speech last night. So we're going to
hear from her at midday. We haven't heard from Joe
Biden yet. He's yet to put out an official statement.
We have heard from George W. Bush, the forty third president,

(01:22):
this morning, who congratulated Donald Trump, but nothing from Harris
and Biden just yet.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
All right, we'll stand by midday, we're expecting Kamala Harris
to talk. That's Mitch mccannon, Detroit, Michigan.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
