Speaker 1 (00:03):
Good morning.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
There's a new twist in Donald Trump's trade war this morning,
with the US President threatening an extra fifty percent tariff
on China. The retaliatory move comes off the back of
another volatile day on US and European markets, which recorded
losses in the billions. Let's go live to US correspondent
Rob Scott and Rob Trump's tariff threat to China putting
(00:24):
the rest of the world on notice.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Yeah, it certainly is David the President making it clear
in no uncertain terms and unless the world is ready
and willing to play by his rules, he is happy
to ratchet up the pressure. The first world leader to
try to make a better deal, the first world leader
to come and visit him since he announced those tariffs.
Is Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Mettin now, who they are
meeting as we go to, where the Prime Minister hoping
(00:46):
to get a better deal than the seventeen percent tariffs
that have already been slapped on all Israeli imports into
the United States. Of course, this meeting comes just after
Donald Trump said he is happy to slap an extra
fifty percent tariffs on all Chinese goods if China doesn't
immediately remove it's thirty four percent tariffs that it imposed
just a couple of days ago. This escalating trade war,
(01:09):
as you mentioned, is decimating world markets. The US share
market has had an incredibly volatile day to day, tumbling
for the third day in a row. Similar story across
Asia and the European indexes and the ASX is also
expected to open significantly down in the next couple of hours,
of course, coming after that one hundred and sixty billion
(01:29):
dollars worth of value was wiped just yesterday. Now, the
President has had another swipe at Australia today. He has
reposted a social media post from a senator in a
big beef state here basically having a crack at Australia
for all the barriers it has thrown up stopping American
beef imports into Australia. But Donald Trump is digging in.
(01:51):
He is refusing to soften his approach. He actually says
his approach is starting to work, with some fifty odd
countries reaching out hoping to have a meeting with him soon.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
David, all right, thanks for the update there.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
