Speaker 1 (00:11):
Just let that sit. I just wanted all the majesty
of it. Last night, I am still buzzing. I couldn't sleep.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
I had the great fortune of going to see Jesus
Christ Superstar, the latest incarnation of Jesus Christ Superstar. Now,
I reckon, I've seen this show ever since the first
time I saw it in the early eighties with Marsha
Heinz and Trevor White and Johnny Cash.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
I reckon, I've seen it a good ten times. Okay,
so you be be it is. I love it. I
love it.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
It's my second favorite show, only behind The Missed. But
I love it so much. And this production I'm going
to say it.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
I'm going to call it. Okay, what do you got?
Speaker 2 (00:48):
This production is the best production of Jesus Christ Superstar
I've ever seen.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
That's cool.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
First of all, the ensemble amazing. I wouldn't have said
this was a show known for its dancing, but hats
off to whoever did the choreography here. The ensemble is
the Rabble thirty three ad social media if you will,
they're the ones that you know are all about Jesus
Christ and then you know end up condemned. They turn
and these guys set the scene perfectly. Caiaphas and annas
(01:18):
the high Priests. Caiaphas with his big, deep voice, I
mean the deepest voice you'll ever hear in your life.
These are always two of my favorites in the show.
And Elliott Baker and John O'Hara do not let us
down the menace that they convey with just a simple
turn up their body and very simple costuming. A sublime
once again, that's some you know, sort of hats off
to the staging. Peter Murphy as Ponchous Pilot, A very wonderful,
(01:44):
very rock and roll punchous Pilot. Now Ruben k Ruben
k as Herod. Ruben is everything you want in the
King Herod scene and more. I will go to the
show again just to see Ruben's cost you, let alone
Ruben's performance. So this brings us to the big guns.
(02:05):
Robert Tripolino as Jesus.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Wow. I've just got no words other than wow. Wow.
Mahalia Barnes.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
Now Mahalia sings the songs beautifully, I mean absolutely wonderful
renditions of the big numbers. I don't know how to
love him, and everything's all right, but in the interest
of an honest review.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
I didn't get.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
Mary Magdalene from her, if you know what I mean.
I just didn't get the stage presence as Mary.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
Rather than just someone singing Mary's songs.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
I'm sorry, I'm really sorry, but she's her rendition of
the songs up there with the best I've ever ever heard.
Her voice gives you chills, so it takes nothing away
from it. But finally, I will say this without any
shadow of a doubt in my humble opinion, Javon King,
(03:05):
you are the best Judas I have ever ever ever seen.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
And I've seen a few Judases and a few Judases,
you are the best. You are amazing.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
I knew we were in for a treat from the
moment this guy picked up the mic to seing the
opening number and I mean sing doesn't cover it. To
belt out the opening number and every number from there on.
I loved it. In summary, run don't walk to see
this show. It's only on a Crown for three weeks
and I need you to go.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Clar Okay, I know you keep saying that I need
you to go so that we can discuss further. I
walked into four forty. You said you have to go
and see it, and then we can discuss sensational and
what I reviewed. Thank you, Thank you.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Incredible cast of Jesus Christ Superstar and incredible staging.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
I love hearing you, seeing you. This is passionate and
so good. I'm going again. I'm absolutely going again.
