Speaker 1 (00:27):
That, here we are ghost quick. Doesn't that every new
season your own?
Speaker 2 (00:31):
This caeeson Coast so fast, it does go so fast.
And now you are playing the Gold Coast Suns and
off the stadium on Sunday about status three twenty. It's
the first game of the season. It's not your first rodeo.
But how are the young ones that you know, never
played before feeling?
Speaker 4 (00:49):
Ah, they're excited. Yeah, I think everyone else is as well.
We're all bouncing off the walls, fresh fiber around the
football club. So new game plan that we want to implement.
So yeah, it's exciting.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Yeah. The sons that were met to play this weekend,
but because of a certain cyclone they didn't, But I
could have didn't get a bit of running their legs. Yeah,
but it's probably a good test first up at home.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
It is.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
Yeah, it is, and go obviously trying to push for
finals and have been now for a couple of years,
so they've got a lot writing on it, and so
do we.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
We've got a point to prove.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Now. First question Andrew mcqualter, is that how we say
his name mcqualters? How's he going?
Speaker 1 (01:26):
You just call him? Calls him Mini?
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Do you know where mini came from?
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Nah? No idea? How I probably should ask him?
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Actually you know it's Disney or something.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
Yeah, yeah, no, No, it's it's he's been fun, energetic
around the football club, brought a lot of good vibes,
new game plan that we want to implement, as saying before,
So yeah, look it's it's certainly a bit different to
how things have been previously for the past ten or
so years with Simo, but yeah, it's looking back now,
(01:54):
it's it's been great and it's been a fresh change.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
Isn't it funny to see Simo now not in the job.
He seems to have a to say about the Eagles.
Has his role and media.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
Media, but I always thought he was going to do
that anyway. He speaks very well, so I would have
thought that he'd fit into media quite well. And he's transitioned. Yeah,
to be honest, I reckon in Fox forty, I reckon
he's going to kill it.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
He's absolutely kill it with Andrew McWalter just quickly. He's
been quite realistic as well, hasn't he with these expectations.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
He has, Yeah, which I think is you know, he's
been pretty honest and transparent about where where we're going
as a football club and.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
A list, So no point in being otherwise.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
No exactly positive, correct, it is what it is, yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Correct, but also you probably don't want to give unrealistic
exactly exactly so, and we know.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
The journey that we're on now and where we're going towards.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
So that's I guess the exciting part of it and
being a part of that journey now that things are
completely changed and it's it's a fresh fiber, as I said,
around football club, and we're keen to get going and
hopefully in a couple of years time or this year
we can we can play some finals footy and get
as much experience into the younger kids as quick as possible.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
He is a little inspired by Hawthorn's the way, you know,
the way Hawthorne turned itself around in.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
The last year or so.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
So I think he thinks that, you know, there's exactly
the same could happen here.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
Yeah, well footy is a very very quick game and
things change very fast. So yeah, I think if there's
you get a few wins under the belt. It's funny
how belief can change, I guess the mentality of a squad.
I think Hawthorne probably did that last year and then
started to believe a little bit and all of a
(03:39):
sudden got a fair bit of confidence, started playing some
really good football, consistent football, and then all of a
sudden they're you know, pushing for finals.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
So it's like they remembered, Hey, where Hawthorne a good team?
Speaker 4 (03:52):
Yeah they are so but again they've got some fantastic
people behind them and so it a we So I
guess that's gives us a fair bit of confidence going for.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
I've got to say it just looks weird seeing Tom
barrass in their jumper, because I just thought he was
going to be for reasons.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
Yeah, he played well though.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Yeah it's bloody good. Yeah, yeah, it's.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Yes, yes, so no, look it's it is sad, sae, Yeah,
it is sad. Saying same will be for Jack as well.
He's what two games I think from three hundred, so yeah,
I mean you'd love to one of my good mates
at the football club. You'd love to cheer him off
for his three hundredths and clap him off, but unfortunately
it's not the case.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
You got an old Jack and a young Jack in
Jack Graham, a newbie. Well is he likely to play
this weekend? Who's likely to make their you know, debut?
Speaker 4 (04:39):
I would have thought it'd be pretty similar to the
team that fronted up against North, so yeah, it's one
of one or two changes.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
But yeah, we're still five days away.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
We've still got a fair bit of main training to
go through two or three sessions, so yeah, the match
committee would probably still be Am and Aron about a
few players. So yeah, it's at this stage over my head.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
Good to see Baker out there, mate. He's a bloody
god football and he's your tough nugget, isn't he is?
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (05:06):
He is.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
I think he's won two flags at Richmond, so yeah, yeah,
great player, good leader as well. Obviously voted in him
and Fridge we call him Jack Graham, so yeah, they both.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
Say Fridge his nickname wife Fridge. It's a great question. Cold, No,
is he solid? Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, he's a solid bloke.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
But yeah, great, great acquisitions I think for the football
club and great leaders so and knowing many as well.
Before that, it's he's obviously brought over a few things
that they all sort of know, so being able to
help teach the younger kids coming through as well, he's
been fantastic.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Who's going to kick more goals this season?
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Jake Waterman or Oscar Allen or Elliot?
Speaker 1 (05:52):
I'd love to say anyone's allowed to kick like netfall.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
A couple of easy ones over the top, goal square,
perfect when you're resting forward.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
But to be fair, Jake or Oscar, it's going to
be good in it. It's like a good internal battle,
really true.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
It's a good problem to have.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Well, yeah, exactly, so I reckon they'll probably take turns
as well.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
He will go deepest, so it all depends on when
the ball gets down there. I'd like to say, Oscar.
I think, you know, Jake's had a really good year,
but Oscar has had a few tough years, So hopefully
he can get some runs and goals on the board
to give him some confidence and yeah, make him sort
of the player that we all believe him to be,
which is, you know, he's an absolute freak.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
It's hard to beat Waterman's year last year after what
he'd been through.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
It is, Yeah, it is.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
You've seen you know the squad, you know the boys
and all the rest of it, and you've seen some
young guys. Is there any smoke he's anyone in that
squad you think might just put their hand up and
really really apply themselves this year.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
I think, Look, I think is going to take the
next step.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
So he had a really good year last year, but
I think from things and from what I was seeing
early in pre season, I just think he's going to
take them.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Yeah, he is.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
I think he's found I get the feeling he found
he's found the I guess, the balance between you know,
locking down and an opponent, but then also trying to
impact a bit.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
More as well offensively.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
So I'm excited to see how he goes, I think,
And he doesn't probably get the recognition he deserves. So
he's shut down that many good players for us last
year and kept him to you one or two goals
when the ball was in the fifty fair bit.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
So yeah, he's underrated. Player.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
I think, all right, let's talk about you, or let's
talk about you.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
We could call the segment what's the latest on your already.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
Haveb Yeah, look I started to run the other week,
so that's positive. But things that you know, like had
two steps towards one step back with all things. So
but you know, nothing major. I'm hoping that I'm still
sort of on the same trajectory. You just get sore
like all things, so you just got to manage it
a bit better and do what you got to do.
(07:56):
So yeah, I'm hopeful that the timeline that the club
set we're still sticking to that.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
Can you use a quick window into your world as
a player, and after all those years, what's it like
rocking up to that event, that season launch event you
have to throw the suit on or what have you done?
And is it exciting? Is it? I know it's something
you have to do with the job.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
It's exciting if you're playing, yeah, okay, right, if you're not,
you're like, oh, here we go. Yeah right, So and
that's been for a couple of seasons now for me,
and you're like, all right, well it's not really my
season launch because I'm a while off so yeah, yeah, yeah,
but you still get to meet and see a lot
of sponsors that that I've known over the years and
(08:33):
got to meet and get a good relationship with it.
So it actually turns out to be a good day,
good morning, isn't it.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (08:40):
It is.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
And you get to see the people that obviously have
supported the football club and supported yourself over a number
of years, and they're great people, and you actually, I
actually have a fair bit of fun with it.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Good. Yeah, because pre round one it's all about hope,
isn't it? For every footy club it is.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Yeah, But with the footy stuff, I just switch off
when it comes to that.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
Until it's your first game of the year.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Yeah, to do it again? Another breakfast, get your so shouts,
I'm ready, I'll come in next week.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Let's pull the eggs on.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
It all right.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Well, Bounce Down is three twenty on a Sunday adopter
stadium for the Eagles via the Gold Coast.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
Good luck, thank you?
Speaker 3 (09:18):
What is this season eight on the radio? You're a
media veteran.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
I know it's gone so fast.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
Did to see man
