Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jersey and Amanda gam Nation.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Yes, film, not only because Peter Garrett is as iconic
as the Opera House, but it's a great excuse to
bring up one of Brendan Jones's early radio moments. That's
slightly bum clenching, and I do enjoy listening to it
again and again and again.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Okay, Peter, this is the second final question in this
list of interrogation. You might call it the just just
pretend people up here have never heard of midnight? Or
what would you tell a person that's never.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Heard of midnight? Or what can I expect? I love
that answer.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
Well, look in the midst of all that, we have
better Garrett on the line.
Speaker 5 (00:42):
Hallo, Peter, Hi, Amanda, Hi Jonesy, I've got a bit
fan girling and that's.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Fair enough to so, Peter, you're going to be performing
at the at the at Taronga Zoo. I love these
series of concerts because is there anything more atmospheric than
being surrounded by all those animals. It must feel amazing.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
It's incredible.
Speaker 6 (01:02):
You can see the giraffes, you know, it's actually you're
absolutely right, man, it's a fantastic gig. And you know,
I thought about it when we're setting up this little
run and I was really happy that we get a
chance to get in there and play. I mean in
terms of the backdrop, staggering, great feel. Yeah, you've got
all the zoo animals around you, so you can take
(01:22):
it a bit of a drift down memory lane when
you're a kid or whatever. And I still love all
that stuff. But it's a really special it's quite a
nice natural amphitheater as well. It's actually one of the
most special and brilliant places to play in the city.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
I think.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
Do the animals respond to the music?
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Ah, well, we have to.
Speaker 6 (01:40):
There is a sound d B thing around sound check
and we have to be finished by certain times so
they can get their shut eye.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
So that is yes.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
But you know, I guess you got to say yes
because that's a great place. Because my daughter's decided she
wants to get married to wrong Zoo and I was thinking,
well that that joined a cheap that's for sure.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
Oh you have charming of you, Brendan, whatever.
Speaker 5 (02:05):
You want, you know, it's not cheap.
Speaker 6 (02:09):
Well, you know, I mean of all the places that
you play when you play outside especially, I mean I
love playing outside, you know, I mean I love the
environment and all of that, and it's really special for me.
And I think sound does something pretty good outside it
doesn't necessarily come bouncing back at you. And then playing
your own hometown in a place which is very very special,
and that's another added plus. I think some of the
(02:31):
proceeds for this goes towards the Native Species Veterinary Training
Hospital thing that they're starting to sit up there. That's
a very cool thing. And yeah, you just end up
having a really good night there, and people seem very
chilled when they come along, and of course they're gazing
at whatever's happening in the rest of the city, but
they're in the sanctuary, as it were, of the Animal
Kingdom and listening to Aussie music because.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
You're performing with the alter egos, tell us about them.
Speaker 6 (02:57):
Look at the sideband when the oars weren't or playing.
And I still really felt after the last run and
when we came off the Great Circle and it ended
up being much bigger than expected, and we ended up
playing in all sorts of parts of the world, which
was it was terrific. But when I got back and
we finished the big run, I just it was weird.
I just really felt like I had a lot of juice,
(03:19):
a lot of energy, a lot of tingly going on,
and I thought, I bet he used it up in
case it runs out. So I dived in and did
another record. Martin Rossi from Midnight came to play with me.
And having Martin there, you know, it just makes makes
it very special because we don't have to talk to
one another.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
We just look at one another and we know what
we want to do. A couple of my daughters are singing.
Speaker 6 (03:40):
They've got their own little band as well, Rain Talk,
but they're up on stage with Dad, and Dad is pretty.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Happy about that. I have to say that, right, sweet,
it's great.
Speaker 6 (03:50):
It's seriously great, and you know it's I mean, I
never expected it. You and I we've been yarning to
one another on and off a year, so you've seen
all the many stages and I really am genuinely surprised
that I still feel an absolute.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
Passion and drive to perform.
Speaker 6 (04:06):
And I don't know how long it's going to last,
but while it's there, I know I have to use it.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
Yeah, well, you still get the tingling. You've got to
get the tingling exactly.
Speaker 5 (04:14):
The tingling's always there. That's not waking up at two
o'clock in the morning needing to go.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
For a week.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Well, there's probably that tingling as well.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
There's always that tingling. How are you feeling about the
election coming here? Are you still are you dipping your
hand into the politics or are you're totally away from it?
Speaker 6 (04:29):
Ah?
Speaker 3 (04:29):
No, Look, I mean people would know my views pretty clearly.
Speaker 6 (04:32):
I mean I think more than anything else, I want
us to respect one another and respect the planet. It
sounds like an absolute statement of the bleeding obvious, But
let's just do that and whoever's going to do that
the best and give us the opportunity to be the
kind of people that work well together and appreciate what
Australia has really got to offer. They're going to have
my vote. It's very dangerous out there with Trump. He's
(04:54):
genuine nasty and even though our politicians, for obvious.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Reasons, can't call it out.
Speaker 6 (05:00):
We're in a world of pain globally and they are
in a world of terrifying yak in the States, So
managing that's going to be difficult. And I think at
the end of the day, you know, we're seeing a
swing away from the idea that either a government could
do something which is good for us, or people can
do good stuff for one another, and I don't accept that.
You know, I think a reason a lot of people
(05:21):
love living in Australia, want to be here, are proud
of being Australian, it's because we've made a reasonable fist
of But sure, this stuff we can do better.
Speaker 5 (05:28):
It's just just everything seems so complicated these days.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
It's exhausting.
Speaker 5 (05:32):
We can always go and see Pete playing at tarn
Gazoo and maybe you could put in a good word
for me from a daughter's wedding or something.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
Try and get Jonesy a freebie.
Speaker 5 (05:42):
I didn't say a freebie. I'm I'm not asking Peter
Garrett's wedding.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
Come. I'm just like you know.
Speaker 5 (05:49):
