Speaker 1 (00:04):
The Will and Woody podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Wood it's very rare. I mean, we're on fire recently.
Well not us analyst. The guestbooker on the show is
we had Billy Eilish last week, and this week we
sit down with with arguably her predecessor in terms of
Queen of Pop. I mean, she's probably the probably the
Queen regent, and Billy is probably the princess at the moment,

(00:29):
although you know, very much on her way to being
queen hard sort of fig and Madonna's probably know the
queen mother. But anyway, they're a royal family, big members
of the royal family of Pop.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Yeah, no doubt about it, no doubt about it.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
And we have.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Spoken to both of them within the span of two weeks. Yeah,
so we did do this earlier, yep. But here is
our chat with did we call her queen in the
end Queen of Pop?

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Not face lady, lady the lady yeh, that makes it
the Lady of Gaga.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Oh great, cool?

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Yeah, you know, we're really well, thanks mate, We're it
is six o'clock in the morning here, so we've kind
of like it's pretty funny. We both walk up and
I was like, did you dream about Lady Gaga last night.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
What he was like, Yep, coffees the minute you walked down.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Yeah, one d percent.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
Yeah, I don't think about it.

Speaker 5 (01:20):
I just like, before I even talk, I'm just drinking espress.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Yeah, that's right. It was a weird morning. We're both
out here in my backyard drinking coffee and talking about
our dreams of you, which I never thought would happened,
But here we are.

Speaker 6 (01:31):
We feel like we know you quite well actually, because
we've dreamt about you all night.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
I'm so happy for that.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Entirely platonic, by the way, Like I don't want this
to sound sick in any in any way, they were
they were yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
Yeah, A friendly dream, A.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Friendly dream, A friendly A very friendly dream. Sorry, not
very friendly jee friendly anyway. Hey, mate, let's talk about Mayhem.
I'm really interested because I saw an l magazine that
you said that this is the first record whereby you
kind of tapped into your persona rather than the Lady

(02:05):
Gaga persona. And I know that you've to write where
the music has come from. And I've and i've and
I've heard you talk a lot about your mental health,
and I know that Gaga is you know, and I
imagine I've had a lot of mental health issues as well,
a beautiful shield at times and a beautiful mask for you.
I'm just really and obviously there's the track Disease on there,
which is about you sort of confronting you in the darkness,

(02:26):
and I just wanted to know, like, did you was
there a moment where you got to the piano. Imagine
you're in there pounding coffees, dreaming of Will and Woody
at six am in the morning. Did you did you
sit down and you were like, oh, like this is
this is Stephanie at the piano today, Like.

Speaker 5 (02:46):
You know, I think that what I realized is that
this like style of music that I started when I
was a teenager, it's like a huge part of who
I am, and that I like hearted in a way
after my first few studio albums, I think because part
of the job is like people are going to criticize

(03:07):
your music, and I actually love that part of it
in a way because I.

Speaker 4 (03:12):
Like, I like want to know what people think.

Speaker 5 (03:14):
You know, I realize that I've always had these kind
of like these like dark dreams since I was a kid,
and my music is an expression of those dark dreams,
and I like try to find a way to turn
my nightmares into things that are fun. So I think

(03:35):
in a way, yeah, I did feel like you know, Stephanie,
But I think also I'm I'm kind, I'm both now,
I'm both now, and I don't I don't feel like
a separation between myself as an artist and as a woman.
I feel like I'm a female artist and I don't
feel the need to play a character in the same way.

(03:57):
But that's also because I integrated the character fully into
my life, if that makes sense.

Speaker 6 (04:01):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Is that the same when you step
out onto the stage, Gaga? Like is it you know,
is it.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Both of you walking out onto the stage or is
the same person walking out or is that still Gaga?

Speaker 5 (04:13):
No, I think it's it's both because it's like, you know,
I have to bring my heart with me otherwise. I mean,
some of who like Gaga became over the years was
like maybe not my favorite person.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
And you've got no control over that, like you're like,
oh Jesus, like back off, Gaga, like who are you today?

Speaker 4 (04:36):
Kind of.

Speaker 5 (04:36):
I mean, there was like there was definitely like ten
years of my life where I was like in my
twenties and I just was like traveling, and you know,
my life really revolved around my career. And you know,
it's nice. I'm thirty eight now. It's it's nice to
like have a full life that encompasses like my friendships

(04:58):
and like my family Moore and in my life that
I care about, and when I take that person on
stage with me, I can also bring like that kind
of warmth to the audience. It's both right and because
I don't know, I didn't find it fulfilling when everything
was all about my career. But I do view like

(05:23):
making music as a gift to fans as.

Speaker 4 (05:25):
Like a huge privilege.

Speaker 5 (05:27):
Like I'm so excited for my album to come out
because I'm just like, I made.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
This thing for you that I really want. I really
should have a good time listening too.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Nice.

Speaker 6 (05:36):
I want to touch on that idea of the making
of the musicgard I've heard you say before that when
you are making music, you actually listen, like you you
are listening to the melody that will come to you.
I'm curious to know, is that something that you turn
on and off or does it hit you at really
inconvenient times, like the grocery shopping or something, and you'll
all of a sudden like, oh no, I've got a
banger in my head.

Speaker 5 (05:58):
Yeah, it can hit it inconvenient times for sure. And
when I'm I'm writing a lot, it comes a lot
more frequently. It's like so cute, like when I'm with
my man, Like like when I'm with Michael, like we'll
be doing something and if I've been working like all day,
and then I like have another idea.

Speaker 4 (06:18):
I'm like he likes see, He's like, just go do it,
like he know, He's like, I have to like go
write the song.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
What's the most inconvenient time that that's sort of come
out for you?

Speaker 4 (06:28):
I mean probably probably like when I'm.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Asleep, Oh sure, yeah, yeah it's.

Speaker 5 (06:34):
But I sleep with the phone by the bed, and
then like sometimes like Michael will just hear me being like.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
This is like you would be in the other room
so fast in my in my house.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Yeah how often? How is that always something good as well?
Because sometimes I have a little notepad by my by
my bed and I'll write down but I think he's
a good joke or something, a good radio idea, and
then I wake up and go, oh my god, that's
the worst idea I've ever written.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
Down in a while.

Speaker 5 (07:00):
I guess every once in a while I hear it
back and I'm like, man, I thought I was such
a genius at three am, and this is horrible.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Two very quick questions for you. Firstly, acting. Your acting
is amazing, obviously loved House of Girchie, Star is Born
is incredible. I saw after you did Joker most recently
that the director was saying that you and Joaquin in
a league of your own, and I just think it's
fascinating that you've just kind of, you know, sort of

(07:29):
turned around and taken over the you know, the acting realm,
and you know, to hear someone say that you're in
a league of your own with Joaquin fanish. I'm sure
Meryl Streep was furious about that, But do you are
there other people who I think Winslet was furious, but
were you kind of like, are you looking at there
are other careers that should be shaking in their boots

(07:51):
because it just feels like whatever you turn your attention to,
your dominate. So should the accountants of the world be
worried that you know, you're going to be dominating another
industry anytime?

Speaker 4 (07:59):
So no, you know, like world domination. It's not really
like on.

Speaker 5 (08:06):
Like I honestly I love making films, I love making music,
I love designing shows, I love.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
Writing, I love makeup.

Speaker 5 (08:16):
You know, like I'm I think the thing I like
believe in the most, Like you know, because I worked
with Tony Bennett for many years and he used to
always say to me, like he used to go stick
with quality, kid, And I think the thing that I
believe in the most is like being a like a craftsman.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
Of what you love, working really hard.

Speaker 5 (08:36):
So I'm just excited to like make stuff and you know,
fully some people will like it. They don't always, but
you know, like all you can do is like try
to contribute to culture. And I really love my fans
and I'm excited for them to hear my new music
and see the new projects I'm working on, and you'd
have a good time listening, dude.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
Okay, my sister has been bugging me for a number
of weeks about talking about a particular subject on this
radio show. She thinks it'll be groundbreaking, she thinks it'll
change radio forever. My sister joins us.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
On the show Massive right now.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
I'm Sarah, Welcome, Hey, we're bloody doing it.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
But I've talked it up.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
He's really put you up during here, Sarah. I feel
for Sarah.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
You've been saying to me though, Sarah, I think this
will be gold has she?

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Have you actually said that, Sarah? What it's going to
be the best radio idea ever?

Speaker 1 (09:39):
No, I never said that.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
He said it would be strong. He said it would
be strong. Anyway, we're about to find out as well.
But Sarah, I feel like I won't do it justice.
Can you tell everyone what you want to talk about?

Speaker 1 (09:54):
Yeah? So just it's a background. What's about Facebook? Marketplace romance?

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (10:00):
And the reasons came about was my husband went and
picked up a suit backpack.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
And sorry, sorry, what the hell.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
I mean?

Speaker 2 (10:15):
I lovely? He's a lovely guy that I wouldn't be
telling everyone. He's got a backpack on his suit.

Speaker 5 (10:19):
That's sorry, that's.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Bold, his suit in this backpack, go into work in
his gym clothes whatever, and then the suit's not creased.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
Yeah, brilliant. I think it's brilliant anyway, So he's going on, Sarah,
just could what does Luke do?

Speaker 1 (10:37):
It looks the value a property value.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
A checks out?

Speaker 3 (10:40):
Yeah, needs no creases any suit Anyway, so he's going
to buy a suit backpack and then what happens.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
Yeah, so Anyway gets the backpack and I think he
went through it in front of her like when you know,
checked it all out and there was something in there
and she goes, oh, sorry, that belonged to my ex husband.
And then I was like oh and then he's like,
oh yeah, then see it's flat with me and I
was like sorry, what and then he was joking. He's
like I'm joking. I was like, okay, But I was like,

(11:08):
imagine if this actually happens, right, Like, people do this
on purpose, they post something on Marketplace in the hope
to meet someone.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
Right here we.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Go, there's that. But then also I want to know
has anyone actually ever met on marketplace? Not doing it intentionally,
because I'm like, it's very you know, I'm selling something, Oh,
come into my house and what maybe you might just connect.
I don't know. I want to know if anyone has met.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
But it feels like a fantasy of yours. So I said,
I know that's but it just feels that way. Sarah.
You're you're very confident this is going to be a

(11:57):
great bit.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Was that well.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
I think given that you were pitching it for for
weeks and weeks and weeks you were calling it, you said,
do a call up topic where people can can call
up and talk about the time that they were on
Facebook Marketplace and they effectively hooked up.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
Because of Marketplace. Yeah, okay, because it happened, because it
happened to your husband when he was playing a suit backpack,
real item. Everyone real, that's a real thing.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
He put it back and there was in that's the
best thing, and the divorced woman who was selling it, oh.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
Yeah, it was Slurtigris started flirting with him.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
So, Sarah, I do want to inform you that nobody
has called up to answer that question.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Are you kidding?

Speaker 3 (12:51):
I've been doing this. I've been doing this show for
seven years, Sarah, and this is the first topic where
no one has called up.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
You're having me on. This is a prank on, Sertain.
I showed the running off the hook right now, you're lying.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
I can take a photo for you. We do have
one person here though, who would like to comment on
what you've just done. It's our brother Tom.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
Tom.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Thanks for having me all right, Just so.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
You know, Sarah has pitched the topic and no one
called It was a massive fail.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
Pathetic Sarah
