For our third episode we are joined by Jessica Bal, a fellow CUNY PhD student and graduate teaching fellow, to talk about how to connect with students, the place of fun and games in the classroom, and how to balance “caring but not carrying.”
In this interview with Dr. Claire Bishop, presidential professor of art history at the CUNY Graduate Center, she shares some of her pedagogical “origin story”, considers how graduate teaching fellowships shape the CUNY art history program’s learning environment, reflects on the place of the canon in today’s art history classroom, and decides on a rather unexpected teaching object.
For our inaugural episode, I’m joined by Dr. Jennifer Ball, professor of Medieval Studies at Brooklyn College and professor and executive officer in the PhD program in Art History at the CUNY Graduate Center. Professor Ball has taught in the CUNY system for over 21 years, and I was excited to hear how her experience teaching undergrads at Brooklyn College has shaped both her pedagogy and her own personal research.
