Not a game. Not a game hockey. Well, it is
a game, but it's a game we don't really talk
about other than the rare and appropriate mal monologue. Something
has to reach the level of high crimes and misdemeanors
for us to talk hockey, and that happened. We literally
are about to drop the puck, is what we're about
to do. So it was a historical weekend in the

National Hockey League. This is what's called a test. This
is only a test of the malor broadcasting system. So
if you didn't see it or hear about it over
the weekend, the NHL has a new all time leading
goal scorer. There has been a passing of the baton.

His name is Alexander Ovechkin. That's right, he is number one, right,
the very top. Ovechkin scored his eight hundred and ninety
fifth goal on a sleepy Sunday afternoon on long Island
against the appropriately named Islanders. That is one more now

than Wayne Gretzky, and Wayne Gretzky his storied career and
now no longer at the very top. Now Gretzky still
has the record for points that will not be broken,
at least not mathematically it would appear be broken, But
he's no longer the all time leading goal scorer. Poetically Ovechkin,

who he's been playing so long. I used to cover
hockey on a regular basis and he was playing then Ovechkin.
So Alexander Ovechkin scored the goal on the Capitol's power
play power play, and that power play goal something that
he has more of than anyone else, three hundred and
twenty five power play goals for Ovechkin, and so that

is at the very top as well. Now the game
was stopped. They said it's a pause button on the game.
They stopped the game, and they had like a two
hour ceremony. It seemed like it was a two hour
ceremony there, and you had Ovechkin's teammates come out and
mob him. And keep in mind, I believe the Capitals
were losing the game at that point, didn't matter, and

they had a on, Iye Sarah to celebrate the accomplishment.
Right in the middle of the game, you had Gretzky
who did past the baton and spoke. He was at
the game there gave a brief speech. In that speech,
he mentioned everything from his buddies that are with the
Islanders to the Rolls Royce that he got when he

set the record, and Sinchovechkins set the mark. Since he's
now got the record, this has opened up a larger conversation.
So let us discuss the question for the Esteemed Panel,
which you are a part of. Is Alexandrovechkin now the
greatest goalscorer in NHL history or he's got the record?

But does Wayne Gretzky's legacy still hold the crown even

Wayne Gretzky in a different galaxy, just the way it is.
He's on another level even statistically. But he doesn't have
the all time goals record anymore. But Gretzky eight hundred
and ninety four career goals, had almost two thousand assists,
and the numbers. It's like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

It's Wayne Gretzky and the Seven Dwarfs. When you look
at his stats compared to everyone else's stats, and he
set the single season record back now the hockey Hartles
will say, well, it was easier to score when Gretzky
was doing his thing, but back in the early eighties
he had ninety two ninety two goals in the early
eighties and ridiculous him. It was like fifty fifty goals

in something like thirty nine games that year. So all
kinds of records. He is in the same class as
Babe Ruth. Like he's like Babe Ruth and he's before
social media. Gretzky didn't play in the social media era
and all that, but his impact on the sport of hockey.

Wayne Gretzky is in the front of the stage coach.
He's not riding shotgun. He's in the front of the
stage coach, driving the stagecoach. You know, he's got the
horses right there. And so he's on the stage coach
and he's leading the NHL to the gold Rush, the
California gold Rush. That's essentially what Wayne Gretzky did. A trailblazer,

but not a Portland trail blazer. Wayne Gretzky for hockey
was the sugar daddy. Who's your daddy, Your sugar daddy,
Wayne Gretzky, the forefather of Sunbelt hockey. And those that
have been around a long time, they know that when
Gretzky was given away, right he was given away to
the La Kings from the Edmonton Oilers in nineteen eighty eight,

there was a sea change. There was a massive change
that took place there, and it opened up a whole
new world. It opened up the world of non traditional
hockey markets, and the NHL capitalized within not that long
an amount of time. When you think about when Gretzky
got there and things took off, and all these celebrit

back when people liked celebrities and things like that, they
were at these games, and the NHL has gone all
over the Sun Belt and teams in Anaheim, San Jose, Dallas, Phoenix,
Tampa Bay. I go through the list of places there
where they didn't have Miami or South Florida has a team. Uh,

and that's directly tied to Wayne Gretzky said, Well, they
would have eventually gotten into those stities, and maybe they
would have eventually gotten to all those cities, but the
process was expedited by Wayne Gretzky. Now page two. So
as for the goals record, because this is not about
Wayne Gretzky as much as it is about Alexander Ovechkin,
although I've just boguarded this for Wayne Gretzky. So the

goals record itself, how significant is it that Alexander Ovechkin
got that achievement in context of the of the modern
NHL game, the way it is played today. So it's
like the classic Al Michael's call from Lake Placid. Do
you believe in miracles? Like people a couple years ago,

it's like, well, Ovechkin's gonna set the record, and you're like, ah, yeah, sure,
he's gonna set the record for goals. It's like, that's
not the goal. Mark was supposed to be on that
short list of unbreakable records. And Ovechkin not that he's
zoomed past Gretzky, but he methodically surgically passes Wayne Gretzky
by any And the thing that's the most impressive about Ovechkin,
(09:28):
not that I'm here to give out flowers to anyone,
is you think about the crap that happened during his
career with shortened seasons because of labor disputes, lockouts, you
had the pandemic that took place a few years ago,
and so it is a testimonial to perseverance that even
with all that, playing fewer games here and there, and
still he ends up playing long enough, Ovechkin to pass

Wayne Gretzky by and it doesn't hurt that he's one
of the great vultures on the power play and a
bunch of empty net goals and all that. But unlike
Barry Bonds, when Bonds set the record, or Lebron James
passing Kareem Abdul Jabbar and the scoring mark, these records
have all fallen in my lifetime. But the Barry Bonds thing,
when he broke Hank Aaron's record, most people just rolled

their eyes because, like, he's dirty, that's not a legit record, right,
He's a PD guy, you know, steroid steroid Barry Balcoberry.
They're like, who cares? And Lebron it's well, he came out,
he came out of high school. He didn't go to college.
Kareem Abdul Jabbar went to college, and so it's not
the same, and so there's different things. But with Ovechkin,
like I guess the only thing on him would be

he's buddies with Vladimir Putin. Right, He's like, he's buddies
with a bunch of oligarchs in Russia, which I think
you have to be right. Some guy told me years
ago that these Russian players, if they don't kiss the
ring of Putin, they start getting crap happening to their
family and stuff like that. I don't know that's true
or not, but they were giving me a couple of
years back. Guy was explaining me the dynamic of Russian

hockey players that come to the United States and how
they have to have to be respectful and if they
do anything out of line, there's all kinds of problems
back home, which makes sense. I don't know whether that's
actually the case or not. But with Alexandrovchkin now passing
Wayne Gretzky and the record for goal scored, where are

the safe records? Where are can you see some safe records?
This is one of those records people thought would last
in your entire life and it would not be broken.
And so where are the safe erexits?

There are a bunch. In fact, there are many records
that I will guarantee will not be broken. Guarantee. It's
like the paramount pictures flicked that did okay back in
the day. The untouchables, right, the untouchables. Cy Young two
untouchable records. Cy Young five hundred and eleven wins, five
hundred and eleven career wins. He also has the most

losses in baseball history three hundred and fifteen. And in
modern pitching where they don't even care whether you stay
long enough to get a win, that record, you say,
forget about it. In fact, the record if you go
back to I consider the modern era for our purposes
nineteen eighty since the nineteen eighties, the pitcher that has
the most wins, you know it is Greg Maddox. Greg

Maddox has the most wins of any pitcher of the
last forty five years, three hundred and fifty five career
wins for Mattix with the Atlanta Braves, the Cubs, the Dodgers,
the pod Raised and all those teams. So three hundred
fifty five wins. You know who. As the record for
the most losses in baseball since the nineteen eighties, a
guy whose nickname was the Banana, Frank Tanana. The Banana

Tanana has the modern record. Now that's actually more reachable
the Cy Young loss record. Say Young three hundred and
fifteen career losses and Frank Tanana lost two hundred thirty
six games. So that's actually the math on that. Actually
could could see that record go now, but you got

to be consistently just could enough to be there and
bad enough to lose the games. And then the other
ones are the iron Man streaks Cal Ripkin Junior, the
Iron Horse record going down there, Louke Gerrick, and that's
cal Ripkins streak. He played every game for sixteen point

Cal Ripkin the Kevin Costner game where the lights went
out in Baltimore to make sure the streak kept going there.
So he had a little help there game against the
Mariners at Camden Yards. So Cal Ripken that will not

Green mostly with the Lakers and the Suns and some
other teams. They're a C. Green who played every single
game for fourteen and a half seasons from nineteen eighty
six to two thousand and one. He played every game.
If you play every game in the NBA, in the
modern NBA, they look at you like you've got some

Not a game. Not a game hockey. Well, it is
a game, but it's a game we don't really talk
about other than the rare and appropriate mal monologue. Something
has to reach the level of high crimes and misdemeanors
for us to talk hockey, and that happened. We literally
are about to drop the puck, is what we're about
to do. So it was a historical weekend in the
(02:10):
National Hockey League. This is what's called a test. This
is only a test of the malor broadcasting system. So
if you didn't see it or hear about it over
the weekend, the NHL has a new all time leading
goal scorer. There has been a passing of the baton.
(02:32):
His name is Alexander Ovechkin. That's right, he is number one, right,
the very top. Ovechkin scored his eight hundred and ninety
fifth goal on a sleepy Sunday afternoon on long Island
against the appropriately named Islanders. That is one more now
(02:54):
than Wayne Gretzky, and Wayne Gretzky his storied career and
now no longer at the very top. Now Gretzky still
has the record for points that will not be broken,
at least not mathematically it would appear be broken, But
he's no longer the all time leading goal scorer. Poetically Ovechkin,
(03:15):
who he's been playing so long. I used to cover
hockey on a regular basis and he was playing then Ovechkin.
So Alexander Ovechkin scored the goal on the Capitol's power
play power play, and that power play goal something that
he has more of than anyone else, three hundred and
twenty five power play goals for Ovechkin, and so that
(03:36):
is at the very top as well. Now the game
was stopped. They said it's a pause button on the game.
They stopped the game, and they had like a two
hour ceremony. It seemed like it was a two hour
ceremony there, and you had Ovechkin's teammates come out and
mob him. And keep in mind, I believe the Capitals
were losing the game at that point, didn't matter, and

they had a on, Iye Sarah to celebrate the accomplishment.
Right in the middle of the game, you had Gretzky
who did past the baton and spoke. He was at
the game there gave a brief speech. In that speech,
he mentioned everything from his buddies that are with the
Islanders to the Rolls Royce that he got when he

set the record, and Sinchovechkins set the mark. Since he's
now got the record, this has opened up a larger conversation.
So let us discuss the question for the Esteemed Panel,
which you are a part of. Is Alexandrovechkin now the
greatest goalscorer in NHL history or he's got the record?

But does Wayne Gretzky's legacy still hold the crown even
though ove got the record. So I've got stage coach,

all the NHL stats. Well, he stands atop the goal mountain,
the mountain of pucks. He's at the very top there.
In a double blind challenge, double blind challenge, it's not close.
Number ninety nine is the king, and it doesn't change it.
He's not any longer the leading goal scorer. It doesn't matter.

Wayne Gretzky in a different galaxy, just the way it is.
He's on another level even statistically. But he doesn't have
the all time goals record anymore. But Gretzky eight hundred
and ninety four career goals, had almost two thousand assists,
and the numbers. It's like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

It's Wayne Gretzky and the Seven Dwarfs. When you look
at his stats compared to everyone else's stats, and he
set the single season record back now the hockey Hartles
will say, well, it was easier to score when Gretzky
was doing his thing, but back in the early eighties
he had ninety two ninety two goals in the early
eighties and ridiculous him. It was like fifty fifty goals

in something like thirty nine games that year. So all
kinds of records. He is in the same class as
Babe Ruth. Like he's like Babe Ruth and he's before
social media. Gretzky didn't play in the social media era
and all that, but his impact on the sport of hockey.
Like imagine in that cartoon bubble over your head that

Wayne Gretzky is in the front of the stage coach.
He's not riding shotgun. He's in the front of the
stage coach, driving the stagecoach. You know, he's got the
horses right there. And so he's on the stage coach
and he's leading the NHL to the gold Rush, the
California gold Rush. That's essentially what Wayne Gretzky did. A trailblazer,

but not a Portland trail blazer. Wayne Gretzky for hockey
was the sugar daddy. Who's your daddy, Your sugar daddy,
Wayne Gretzky, the forefather of Sunbelt hockey. And those that
have been around a long time, they know that when
Gretzky was given away, right he was given away to
the La Kings from the Edmonton Oilers in nineteen eighty eight,

there was a sea change. There was a massive change
that took place there, and it opened up a whole
new world. It opened up the world of non traditional
hockey markets, and the NHL capitalized within not that long
an amount of time. When you think about when Gretzky
got there and things took off, and all these celebrit
(08:00):
back when people liked celebrities and things like that, they
were at these games, and the NHL has gone all
over the Sun Belt and teams in Anaheim, San Jose, Dallas, Phoenix,
Tampa Bay. I go through the list of places there
where they didn't have Miami or South Florida has a team. Uh,
(08:21):
and that's directly tied to Wayne Gretzky said, Well, they
would have eventually gotten into those stities, and maybe they
would have eventually gotten to all those cities, but the
process was expedited by Wayne Gretzky. Now page two. So
as for the goals record, because this is not about
Wayne Gretzky as much as it is about Alexander Ovechkin,
although I've just boguarded this for Wayne Gretzky. So the

goals record itself, how significant is it that Alexander Ovechkin
got that achievement in context of the of the modern
NHL game, the way it is played today. So it's
like the classic Al Michael's call from Lake Placid. Do
you believe in miracles? Like people a couple years ago,
(09:04):
it's like, well, Ovechkin's gonna set the record, and you're like, ah, yeah, sure,
he's gonna set the record for goals. It's like, that's
not the goal. Mark was supposed to be on that
short list of unbreakable records. And Ovechkin not that he's
zoomed past Gretzky, but he methodically surgically passes Wayne Gretzky
by any And the thing that's the most impressive about Ovechkin,
(09:28):
not that I'm here to give out flowers to anyone,
is you think about the crap that happened during his
career with shortened seasons because of labor disputes, lockouts, you
had the pandemic that took place a few years ago,
and so it is a testimonial to perseverance that even
with all that, playing fewer games here and there, and
still he ends up playing long enough, Ovechkin to pass
(09:52):
Wayne Gretzky by and it doesn't hurt that he's one
of the great vultures on the power play and a
bunch of empty net goals and all that. But unlike
Barry Bonds, when Bonds set the record, or Lebron James
passing Kareem Abdul Jabbar and the scoring mark, these records
have all fallen in my lifetime. But the Barry Bonds thing,
when he broke Hank Aaron's record, most people just rolled
(10:13):
their eyes because, like, he's dirty, that's not a legit record, right,
He's a PD guy, you know, steroid steroid Barry Balcoberry.
They're like, who cares? And Lebron it's well, he came out,
he came out of high school. He didn't go to college.
Kareem Abdul Jabbar went to college, and so it's not
the same, and so there's different things. But with Ovechkin,
like I guess the only thing on him would be

he's buddies with Vladimir Putin. Right, He's like, he's buddies
with a bunch of oligarchs in Russia, which I think
you have to be right. Some guy told me years
ago that these Russian players, if they don't kiss the
ring of Putin, they start getting crap happening to their
family and stuff like that. I don't know that's true
or not, but they were giving me a couple of
years back. Guy was explaining me the dynamic of Russian

hockey players that come to the United States and how
they have to have to be respectful and if they
do anything out of line, there's all kinds of problems
back home, which makes sense. I don't know whether that's
actually the case or not. But with Alexandrovchkin now passing
Wayne Gretzky and the record for goal scored, where are

the safe records? Where are can you see some safe records?
This is one of those records people thought would last
in your entire life and it would not be broken.
And so where are the safe erexits?

hundred and eleven career wins. He also has the most

losses in baseball history three hundred and fifteen. And in
modern pitching where they don't even care whether you stay
long enough to get a win, that record, you say,
forget about it. In fact, the record if you go
back to I consider the modern era for our purposes
nineteen eighty since the nineteen eighties, the pitcher that has
the most wins, you know it is Greg Maddox. Greg

Maddox has the most wins of any pitcher of the
last forty five years, three hundred and fifty five career
wins for Mattix with the Atlanta Braves, the Cubs, the Dodgers,
the pod Raised and all those teams. So three hundred
fifty five wins. You know who. As the record for
the most losses in baseball since the nineteen eighties, a
guy whose nickname was the Banana, Frank Tanana. The Banana

Tanana has the modern record. Now that's actually more reachable
the Cy Young loss record. Say Young three hundred and
fifteen career losses and Frank Tanana lost two hundred thirty
six games. So that's actually the math on that. Actually
could could see that record go now, but you got

to be consistently just could enough to be there and
bad enough to lose the games. And then the other
ones are the iron Man streaks Cal Ripkin Junior, the
Iron Horse record going down there, Louke Gerrick, and that's
cal Ripkins streak. He played every game for sixteen point

two Major League Baseball seasons. Even got some help on that,
Cal Ripkin the Kevin Costner game where the lights went
out in Baltimore to make sure the streak kept going there.
So he had a little help there game against the
Mariners at Camden Yards. So Cal Ripken that will not

Green mostly with the Lakers and the Suns and some
other teams. They're a C. Green who played every single
game for fourteen and a half seasons from nineteen eighty
six to two thousand and one. He played every game.
If you play every game in the NBA, in the
modern NBA, they look at you like you've got some
kind of plague, like what the f is wrung with.

that hot shot young player that would come up for
the minor leagues and hustle on obvious flyball outs, and
