Speaker 4 (00:56):
As the Kings are looking to add another win at home.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
The King's undefeated at home this year. It seems like
I feel I don't think I've seen them lose once
at home. It's a nice streak to have. And this
is nineteen three and two. After to Night, nineteen three
and two.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
I'll tell you. This is after that great game played. Yeah,
where Bieber's on there and Steve Carell and.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
Will Fireley coaching.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Yeah, that was something about Martin McSorley out there. Yeah,
I mean some of the PK suban was out there.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
I'm like, come man, the PK suban needs to be
everywhere right now for the NHL anything. Wait, there's a
hockey game in the middle of a small town and
any down us.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
A yes, you know.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
And the funny thing is I'm watching the guy and
we're talking about is There was a big benefit game
yesterday was on National TV, big NHL charity game for
victims of the fires in Los Angeles and there was
a lot of celebrities there. Caitlyn Olson, Rob mcalaney were there.
Will Ferrell and Snoop Dogg were coaching team. Steve Carell was.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
Playing, hanging out they come on.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
It was well, I think I think everybody from now
by the way Sunny coaching. It was Devino and Michaels
were coaching, and Dave you know, actually got into Jersey
Mike's line.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
Hey man, always be closed. I forget.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
I think, like Will Ferrell said to him, like say, Dan,
you know we're gonna keep scoring goals. You can go
get something to eat, and he goes, oh, I could
go get a jersey Mikes, And it was really funny.
And I'm watching the game and it's a lot of
you know, it's a lot of celebrities playing, and I'm
seeing how they're playing.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
And my wife and I are watching for a few
minutes and I go, ah. She goes, what I got?

Speaker 3 (02:26):
That was it? Uh? And and I realized and where
I said, you know, I said, you know what, of
all the sports that I've coached, right, coaching soccer, softball
my life, I could never coach hockey. And she said
why And I said, because I know the game too
well and I could never And I've told you my
superpower was knowing where the play was going to be,
knowing what was going to happen. And I said, I
could never get that to anybody. I could never tell

(02:47):
them what were you doing here?

Speaker 1 (02:48):
You didn't see the defender was going to turn and
put that pass cross ice? You could have gone in
and picked up like like like that stuff that I
just see that. I could never teach somebody that. Yeah,
I was really the worst hockey coach ever. I would
say How do you not see that when the defenseman
comes comes up to the blue line, that you can
get it, you can do this. How do you not
see that? How do you see when the when the when?
When the goalie comes out and he's out about five feet,

(03:10):
what you do is you go straight at him and
then you cut to a side because he's got nowhere
to get back, and you don't go down on the
ice with the fuck you go up you got a
roof it. I mean, like all these things, they'd be
like what what what like? That's I see the plight.
I saw the play before.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
That's my super It's a decidedly different angle that you
took on that that I thought you were going to
see what I did there and on yeah, that you
were all salty that they didn't ask you to come play.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
Oh oh no, dude, I can't.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
I could maybe I could maybe play roller again, but
that's but ice hockey nowhere.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
There's no way, there's no way I would. I would
fall and hurt myself in the first five second. Yeah,
but think about it, if you took a big hit
from mix sorely, that would make your life.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
I don't it might be dead. Nah, you'd be.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
In uh maybe in traction for a couple of weeks.
Everybody would sign your cast to have a nice people
piece of memory.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
Really, it would be that line from from Alpha will
ferrown already leans, how'd you like to be dead? Like
that's that's what happened to meurve.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
Stick and then he would have killed you hundred percent. Well, hey,
where where's that? Where's that illegal stick you got?

Speaker 1 (04:13):
You got any of those curve sticks you're supposed to
switch at the end of the games if you're us
an illegal stick.

Speaker 4 (04:18):
So they don't sketch you on that, I'll catch you.
But I'm watching him going, oh.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
You got a roof the fucking you know that the
goalie's going to go across the ice with a stick.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
You gotta go up.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
I aim for the water bottle, like all these things
that I know that I just knew the game. I
could never tell people, but I could. Good job to
Patrick O'Neil, who soldier as if you knew who the
hell half those people? Oh yeah, yeah, I was fun.
The other part is that's the thing for me, there's
that divide. I really need to do some deep dives
to really acquaint myself.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
With some of these celebrities that are in celebrity games. Yeah,
I think Canna Stocking is still talking.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
Yeah, yeah, but my eye was going, who is it?
I know Tanna Stockings? Does anybody else get to talk?

Speaker 4 (05:00):
I don't know. I'm you and tell her you knew
exactly who she was? You and I just turned it on. No,
I didn't know. I I good. Good move.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
We just we just moved on. We just moved on
to people she knew. Hey, look there's Danny DeVito. He
mentioned Jersey Mikes. I really can't believe he got a jersey.
Mike's mentioned it having jersey five times. If you had jersey,
Mike sins.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
Oh, I wish.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
I almost thought they would cut away and they would
cut back to me be eating the sandwich. Oh, this
where I unwrapped Jersey Mikes and I eat it.

Speaker 4 (05:25):
Okay, okay, that's what I'll do. Large is bigger than
he is.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
But even just getting the reference in, I wonder what
he got. You can get an extra bonus.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
Yeah, they're probably up here contract or something. Yeah, so
good for him, buddy.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
They raised a lot of money, uh for victims of
the fire last month. Really fun agains on across country
was a really fun thing. Yeah, I gotta figure out.
I got to talk to my nutritionist and do the
Can I get a cheat day?

Speaker 4 (05:49):
Can I get it? And can because I haven't had
a jersey jersey mics.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
It's all you just just go get the meat and
then just put the Zekiel bread on it.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
You're all good. Actually, you know what, there's the heck
l good?

Speaker 3 (05:59):
There you go now speaking speaking of big events in
Los Angeles over the weekend, big story and now you
know officially the Rams are okay with saying goodbye to
Matthew Stafford because they have allowed him and his agent.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
To look for a deal with another team. When this
story first broke that Matthew Stafford was thinking about if
he wants to come back, and Sean mcvaigh right away
spoke and said, we don't want to repeat of last year.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
Let us know.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Soon what you're thinking. Basically, I'm calling your bluff. I
know this is about money and I'm calling your bluff.
And we told you back then it was about money.
Stafford's playing too well, you saw the level who's playing
it in the playoffs. He wants more money. His contract
after this year is well, what five million dollars more
guaranteed money. He wants a new deal. He's not thinking
about retiring. And this is Sean McVay calling his bluff,

(06:49):
saying we're not going to go through what we did
last year. We gave you extra money and then that
was compounded when Kelly Stafford does a podcast and says, hey,
we love, love, love Los Angeles, but we also love adventure.
Oh so now Matthew Stafford's wife is throwing the gauntlet down.
When you hear reports the Rams are done with Stafford,
I get it. And if you think this is something
that can't happen, Sean mcveigh's got an itchy finger on

(07:11):
that on that trigger.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
He wants to press that button right now.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
I think he's hoping Matthew Stafford finds a deal somewhere
else so they can go bring in their preferred next quarterback.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Because you know, and that's another thing.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
You know that McVeigh has the next guy, whether it's
Sam Donald or who am going to say in a
couple miss Sam Aaron Rodgers varying degrees. You know, they
know who they want. They're not gonna say goodbye to
Matthew Stafford. Then we're gonna draft our quarterback in the future. No, No,
they reload. The Rams never rebuild. They reload. And they know, hey,
Matthew's really good and what he did the back half

(07:46):
of the last two years into the playoffs, he was
so good and we were so close to the super Bowl.
We were the second best team in the NFL. Right,
they were the second best team in the NFL.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
The end of the year.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
They nearly beat the Eagles. They should have beaten the
Eagles and they didn't. They were this close, right, So
they know they're feeling good. The fact that right now
that they're okay with letting Matthew Stafford go tells me
they're ready to replay, are ready to replace him, and
they want that to happen. You don't tell a guy
go see if you get another deal with somebody, if
you're okay with them staying well. But also especially at

(08:16):
a position like quarterback, where you know there's shall we say, seven, eight, ten,
fifteen thirsty teams out there looking either for an upgrade
or just a guy to replace.

Speaker 4 (08:28):
The question mark on the current NEP chart is.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
This is this is the same thing as if you're
in a relationship with somebody and you say to her,
you know, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
I don't know if you're the right guy. I don't
know if you're right one.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
Okay, you know what, I think I need to go
out and maybe date, go on a couple of other
dates with other people and see we're not breaking up,
but I think I need to go see if you're you.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
Know, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
There's a couple of guys I'm thinking and the guy says, yeah, sure,
go ahead. She's not coming back to that point. That's
a way of saying we're breaking up. Well, or if
she does, I mean, come on now.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
She's saying, I'm okay with I'm okay with us breaking up.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
I'm okay with it. Well wait a minute, yeah, I'm okay, okay,
I'm gonna go do this like.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
That's what this is with Stafford, is that they would
they allowing him to go out and talk and they
find a deal. I guarantee you you will see the story.
Matthew Stafford traded and the next day the Rams will
have their guy. And we talked to Jason locking for
early in the show who the last couple weeks and said, hey,
Sam Donald's great. The great choice. He's a guy he
and McVeigh, I know McVeigh thinks that he can turn
him into, you know, to continue to be the story

(09:29):
as even do better off the last year. He's more mobile,
he's younger, all of these things. And okay, I get
pivoting from Matthew Stafford to Sam Donald. But the guy
they should go after. Call the Jaguars for Trevor Lawrence.
I'm telling you, call.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
The jack Last week, the story that the Steelers potentially
called the Jaguars spread like wildfire, and.

Speaker 4 (09:50):
The Jaguars were like, well, well, we don't know, we
want to trade draft.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
Call the Jaguars. The Jaguars should trade him because they've
had him for four years now and he's still just
a guy. He's a mid range quarterback in the NFL,
and whenever he does the rest of his career, he's
not going to do it in Jacksonville. They're bringing in
their third head coach to unlock Trevor Lawrence. You know what,
It's just not happening in Jacksonville. Just like whatever Luka
Doncic does for the Lakers, he wasn't gonna do it

(10:14):
with the Mavericks.

Speaker 4 (10:15):
He was done.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
He wasn't listening to them. He didn't even know if
he's going to resign there. He was never going to
do anything more with the Mavericks than he was doing.
But now with the Lakers, he's been put on notice,
I have to continue this or I want to continue my career.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
Okay, he was never going to do it there. Trevor
Lawrence is never going to do it with the Jaguars.
He's had a chance, not because of any attitude or anything,
but just he's had his chance. He's gone through three coaches,
had one great quarterback, friendly head coach, and Doug Peterson
still never more than a middle of the pack quarterback.
Had one great comeback in a playoff game. That's it
doesn't mean he can't be great, but somewhere else with

(10:47):
a team that knows how to build quarterbacks. That took
Matthew Stafford when nobody else really wanted Matthew Stafford. He
won the Super Bowl. Sean McVay is the best head
coach in the NFL, and he would And this is
why I go and I call the Jaguars, and I
get Trevor Lawrence in and I try to make it
work with him here. You know, how much you're paying him.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
He's young, this is the guy to go get and
the Jaguars, if they're smart, we'll say, okay, we're starting over.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
New head coach knew everything. We way over paid Trevor Lawrence.
We could get out from under that fifty five million dollars,
get whatever draft picks we're gonna get, but we get
out from under that money and we can start over again,
because they need to start over because they're not going
anywhere with him.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Well, you have the one wide receiver, you've got one
that'll probably get released, and then a third who's pretty
good when he's available to place.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
Right, So you're talking.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
Gabe Davis, and we go back to Christian Kirk, who's
had some pretty good moments, but with these salary restrictions
where he's at after his big contract, he's probably gonna
get released. The McVeigh thing, you know, just to button
up the ram stuff. It's not terribly different from the

(11:53):
what the Giants did with Saquon Barkley, knowing there's going
to be a market for the player, except they'll actually
get some order return from him, right, because it's got
to be a trade. So sure, you're gonna get something.
I think I think it's overblown to how how much
of a bidding war they'll be. I've seen all these books. Yeah,
you're gonna get multiple ones, and you're gonna get this.
I'm like, you're not. Someone's got to pick up a

(12:15):
fifty million dollar contract on this guy. But it's still
going into a marketplace where you know there are gonna
be many suitors for the Jaguars. What's interesting is that
your brain trust, including your head coach, are now guys
that worked for Sean McVay.

Speaker 4 (12:30):
So you're gonna go there and now.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
You're moles and you trade Trevor Lawrence back to your
old boss. I mean, Jerry West did it about And look,
Sean McVay is not going anywhere. That's the other part
that for Rams fans, you rejoice for teams in the
NFC West, and the NFC is all you're kind of salty.
I still have Andy Reid number one. Although the lack
of evolving of the game plan I can pin it

(12:54):
on Matt Naggi, but Andy Reid's got to take some
blame for the Super Bowl problems and not adjusting.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
Hey, they're still getting through it. Four, What the hell.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
Do we I don't know, just throwing stuff up against board.
Evidently they got mad at and got some mean think
Fangio was cursing at his defensive players for their second
half effort. So good for him, stiff being salty after
winning a Super Bowl. But you got Glad Stoney, got
Liam Cohen who worked for McVeigh.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
So yeah, now you've got the trojan horse there. I
guess all right, we gotta set you down.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
Now you're gonna give us Trevor Lawnce. I mean, he's
the guy to go get. He's I think anybody who
needs a quarterback, go get Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
Is he overpaid? Yeah, but in a couple of years
when all the average the jet look, Daniel Jones got
forty million a year, how long is it going to
be until all Jag quarterbacks get fifty to fifty five
million a year. So it's not it's yes, it's it's
it's way more than he deserves it. It's way more
than he then he deserves to make as far as
the market goes but because everybody's salary goes up. But

(13:50):
I mean, it's he's the guy to go get.

Speaker 3 (13:52):
If you really think, let's get someone who had a
great pedigree that has flashed, that.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Does not live up to expectations. We saw it happen
with Sam Darnold, We've seen it with Gino Smith, Baker Mayfield.
In the right situation, let's get a guy with a
better pedigree than all of those guys. But then you
got a guy and Liam Cohen who worked with several
of those quarterbacks that you just mentioned.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
Soh so maybe he's the guy that fixes Trevor Lawrence.
How about that? I don't know. Well, the guy that
says duval that way, is he really the right guy? Do? Yeah?
I don't trust that guy. You know, too scary, too scary.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
That's too scary, too scary, out scary exit all right,
Sam Thomas, too scary exit?

Speaker 4 (14:36):
How about a fresco. It's weell the guys looking at
you like.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
Jason Smith, Mike Garmon Live in the tire rack dot
Com studios. We got more NFL on the way and
a big story out of the NBA, one big event
from this weekend that should have the rest of the
NBA concerned that maybe a sleeping giant has woken up.
That's that stright, hear Jason to Mike Fox Sports Radio.
You said, Bears, I.

Speaker 4 (14:58):

Speaker 1 (16:38):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon. All right, we'll get to the Lakers
in a minute, but we have to talk about the
Knicks first. Okay, we got to talk about Yeah, no, right,
let's talk about the Knicks.

Speaker 4 (16:52):
Really. Yes, I saw who they're signing though. Did you
see this? Yes? Patrick Ewing coming here?

Speaker 2 (16:58):
No?

Speaker 3 (16:58):
No, no, Frostburg had it right. You saw him in like
mock introductions.

Speaker 1 (17:03):
Next killed Carl No stop, they drunk al down.

Speaker 4 (17:10):
Yeah. Wow, stop stop stop stuff.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Uh no, no, no they Uh no, I saw the
the Knicks. Look at the look the buyout market is
going to be where they we really have to get.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
Some Okay, well it looks like you've acquired the Rizzler.
We really have to do something.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
Uh you know, the Wrizzler, Ola depot, all of the like, all.

Speaker 4 (17:31):
Different things forever.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
Now back I mean running around like he's uh you know,
Costanza's dead.

Speaker 4 (17:39):
You know this. The loss yesterday was terrible, the Friday.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
Loss, playing second night of back to backs, but against
a good Cleveland team, and they got they got boat raced. Okay, fine,
Cleveland will do that to you, right, And then I said, okay,
and I look, oh and six against Cleveland Boston in
Oklahoma City.

Speaker 4 (18:01):
Okay, you know I kind of get that. But it's
all right. You know, it's February. It's not that.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
Okay, they'll come back with a big effort on Sunday
because now they've been challenged and it was all they
could do to come back and make it close early
in the fourth quarter, and then Boston goes on a
run and it's over and the Knicks lose again, and
now it's on seven against the three best teams in
the league, and yesterday was really it was really a
big deal for me much because the other games I

(18:26):
can put away.

Speaker 4 (18:27):
But I feel like.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
The second round of the playoffs, the Knicks are going
to play the Celtics, right, Like, that's what's gonna happen.
They're gonna play the Celtics, and the Celtics have killed
them because the big thing that this is not a
nixt thing. It is a next thing, but it's not
a mix thing.

Speaker 4 (18:41):
Is that.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
Look at the way teams get up to play the Knicks,
unlike they a lot of teams, maybe because they're sick
of hearing all the talk about New York and hearing
people in the media talk about, oh, the Knicks went
out and spent all this money. But boy, the Calves
and the Celtics and the Thunder and the l everybody
gets up for the Knicks. And usually you get up
for the champs with a game like there's all the

(19:05):
champs are in town. But they get up for the
Knicks that way, and it almost seems like it's not fair.
It's like, oh, want you play your other games like this,
but no, when they get up for you like this,
and you see the Knicker or are run out of
the game before it even starts, right because other teams
get up. But the way the Knicks play, it's a
weird thing. I'll try to describe it this way, is
that they still don't look like they're all together and

(19:26):
that they're they're functioning as a unit yet right that
I still watching them like they're still trying to figure
it out a little bit, especially defensively and rebounding, and
it's they just don't look like they're in sync yet.
And it's been you know, fifty five sixty games and
they still look like or we're still trying to figure
each other out, Like is it are we gonna go?
Is it gonna be brunting in Karl Anthony towns? Is

(19:49):
it gonna be one one a? Is Town's gonna be
the one and brunts in the one A? How do
you get Bridges's shots? How do you get Josh Hart involved?
How do you get ended up?

Speaker 1 (19:56):
It like they're still trying to figure things out because
their rotation is still where we're waiting for the main
guys coming off the bench, who are gonna play more minutes.
And that's kind of when I watched the Knicks against
the really good teams, because look, they can out talent
most of the teams in the NBA, right, the teams
that are as good as they are or worse than them.
They tried out this great starting five and they're able

(20:17):
to win these games. But when you play somebody else,
so the Celtics look better and more cohesive, The Cavaliers
look better and more cohesive. They're deep, the Thunder look
like they may never lose again when they play, they're better,
more cohesive, have the MVP of the NBA this year.
So you see the difference in where the Knicks are
kind of like out talenting the teams that are as
good or worse, and when they play teams better, it's like, dude,

(20:39):
you don't even look like you belong on the same floor.
You look like you're a bottom feeder team playing against
a team that's just good. And that's a tough thing.
Well in that great yeah, because yesterday was I thought,
we're gonna have a big they're gonna have a big effort,
they're gonna come out big in the first quarter, and
you know, maybe they don't win, but it's gonna be
and no, and instead it's okay.

Speaker 4 (20:57):
Now here's a game.

Speaker 1 (20:57):
At halftime, they're down by twenty five, and you know,
they come back and make it a game for a
few minutes. But then the Celtics, you had a couple
of big plays and they get all energized and motivated,
and Missoula's yelling at them on the court. Again, everybody
gets up for the Knicks. And so those are the
two things I watch and they play better teams, is that, yes,
these other teams are much more mentally ready for this.
They see it as a challenge and Nick's got to

(21:19):
match that type of energy and motivation. But really they
still look like against the better teams, they're still figuring
out who they are.

Speaker 3 (21:26):
Oh, you got a lot of jawing that's gone on
in the offseason and throughout the first two thirds of this,
a lot of it in the media, and let's face it,
you got a couple of loud voices that cover the
NBA on big platforms that are Nicks Nicks Knicks. So
some of that is waving a giant, collective middle finger

(21:47):
to them. And I think, as a collective, we kind
of know who all those people are. And I'm not
even looking at you. I don't even know how many
of those you get. You might get the little side
eye rub of the side of the nose with the
middle finger is what's directed your way. But either way
it's say, hey, you know what, we're pretty good and
you can't announce their arrival.

Speaker 4 (22:06):
You know the old to be the man, you gotta
beat the man.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
Well, the Wolves came up with a big effort on
the back to back tonight, big block by Anthony Edwards
to help seal the deal for a big win over
Oklahoma City. No, Chet Sga was the guy that got blocked.
So there you go. Wolves are the best there, So
you got that. The other is, you know what the

(22:29):
Celtics and these teams also do is remember remember that
scene in Jurassic Park where they start talking about how
the Raptors are testing.

Speaker 4 (22:38):
For the weak Lincoln the fence. Oh yeah, they keep testing.

Speaker 3 (22:41):
Yeah's Carl Anthony Towns the weak Lincoln the fence on
the defensive end, which is what I've been telling you
all on So what they do They just went right
back in his ass and they don't have enough depth
to really run to try to cover it up, because
that's gonna wear you out. Yeah, right, Well that's I
mean all the thing. This is why if the Knicks
don't get out of the second round, they'll have a
new head coach because Tibbs, what's Tibb's hallmark.

Speaker 4 (23:04):
We're gonna play great defense. What's going out the window defense?

Speaker 3 (23:07):
Okay, So and you have nobody off the bench that's
coming in and playing substantive minutes. It's just not happening,
like and that's the hallmark. Look, it's the hallmark of
all the TIBs teams. Like I loved them to a
point in Chicago because you love the attitude that the
teams play with. You love that, uh they're gonna run
out for you and give you a full forty eight.
But the problem is there's not guys six, seven, eight

(23:30):
and nine. Now, there's not even seven and eight game.
The Knicks have to get good enough to be a
team where the six, seven, eight nine guys, maybe maybe
the maybe the seven, eight nine guys have to say, hey,
that's my destination, right, Like, I gotta go there and
play because you're not gonna get a lot of These
are guys that not gonna get a lot of money.

(23:51):
And it's but I want they want to go win.
So they have to be enough of a destination where
you think I can go there, have a great basketball
life and we can win. How but they have Thibodeau's
philosophy though into how he runs a team that's no
different than anything he's done in Minnesota, in Chicago and
all his past stops. Again, there's there's a love and
a buy in from those top guys, but you're never

(24:14):
getting depth because he doesn't trust. He doesn't trust guys
to come in and take those important minutes and buy
guys time.

Speaker 4 (24:22):
Look, Jalen Bronson, I love him most most.

Speaker 3 (24:26):
Games against top teams, the guy looks like he's ready
to fall to the floor because he's had to work
too hard at both heads, Like he doesn't get a
minute off on the court, and literally like they need
more Lebron minutes. Remember Rick Buker coined that term where
you're kind of getting to stand off to.

Speaker 4 (24:43):
The side for a minute.

Speaker 3 (24:44):
And that's the beauty of what the Lakers are building,
is that you're gonna have those things like Luca doesn't
know what to do yet, but he's gonna come to
appreciate the oh Lebron's gonna dribble it for a minute, Okay, cool,
I get to just hang out. I'll just rub it
sit here, a tongue on my shorts, like I get
to pause, and then I'll have energy for the back
end here.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
But that that's the it's the problem of the next
I do you want to know why they struggling. It's
a good team because they still there. It isn't that
you can only out talent teams for so long, right
did they have to find some kind of cohesive it
that they just don't have yet?

Speaker 3 (25:11):
You can only play the Bulls so many times. Man
didn't beat them by two, and the Bulls then beat
the Sixers by thirty two. It's a weird world now.
The Lakers coming off their biggest win of the year
because it is an absolute boat racing of the Nuggets,
who were rolling through everybody on their schedule, scoring one

(25:32):
hundred and twenty one hundred and twenty five points a game.

Speaker 4 (25:34):
Tonight they rolled and points and went over, yeah, and
you'll get.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
You had an incredible night with nineteen assists, a career
high tonight. Didn't get that triple double though, No, no,
but that's certain to tap it to himself an Angel,
we'll get a I'm gonna rebound my own, my own
shot and do it.

Speaker 4 (25:51):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (25:52):
But this is a Nuggets team that we said at
the deadline, Hey, don't do anything. Everything is fine, You're
getting healthy and and and it turns out everything is fine.
But look at what the Lakers did to them on Saturday.
And yes, Luca had his best game as a Laker.
That's gonna get a lot of headlines. Lebron is playing
terrifically well, getting a lot of headlines. What do we
talk about was the biggest thing that was gonna be

(26:14):
an offshoot of Luca and Lebron playing together, guys like
Austen Reason Ruey hotching more of the shots they were going.

Speaker 4 (26:19):
To get on the floor.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
Sea, I can say great things about the Lakers, count
I can say it my buddy JJ Reddick, Uh, he.

Speaker 3 (26:27):
Hates you slight her shot were feud, but it motivates
them to get towards a title.

Speaker 1 (26:33):
Chase telling you we got rings for the Rams. We
can get a ring for the Lakers now, but they
will take care of the Kings. The Dodgers already have
a ring. But okay, we got the Kings.

Speaker 4 (26:42):
I'm not going to do with you.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
But the thing that really should be paying more attention
to that we're not that. This is why the Lakers
have become a championship team, and they're going to finish
second in the Western Conference, and we're gonna foam at
the mouth for a Lakers thunder Western Conference on a
first round Laker Mavericks series, which are getting Lakers Mavericks
tomorrow night, but no ad.

Speaker 4 (27:06):
Since the calendar.

Speaker 1 (27:07):
Basically turned from twenty twenty four to twenty twenty five,
the Lakers have been the best defensive team in the NBA.
Their metrics are the best. They held the Nuggets again
scoring one hundred and twenty five points a game the
last ten to eleven games to one hundred on Saturday.
And a lot has been made of JJ Reddick in
the game plan he put out there for it. And
they shut Nikola Jokic down seven shot attempts. Yes, triple

(27:30):
double for him, but not thirty five point triple double
was a Jason Kidd triple double of you know, twelve,
ten and ten. They kept throwing different looks at at
Nikola Jokic. They doubled him on the ball right away.
Sometimes they would throw different players at him. They made
him make decisions fast with the basketball. They didn't allow
him to get comfortable and really control the game. It

(27:53):
was a phenomenal a level on a wizardry level of effort.
I don't mean like Washington Wizards. I mean a real
good wizard level. See JJ Reddick, I can give you
credit for things. It really was something. But this goes
in line with who the Lakers have been.

Speaker 3 (28:07):
And I'm sure this played into the well trading ad.

Speaker 1 (28:12):
What will this do to us? Defensively? Hey, I think
we're starting to figure things out. Whether it was Hey
Reddick said going forward we can do this or before that,
but you saw that, Hey, defensively, are metrics in this different.
I think we can be okay without Anthony Davis. That's
the big thing that I mean. I know it's not sexy,
it's not Luca, it's not Lebron, which of course get
all the conversation. But when you can play defense like this,

(28:34):
you suddenly turn into a team.

Speaker 4 (28:36):
Today.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
I take you serious for winning the title because you
gotta be able to play defense in the playoffs. You
have to play defense in big time situations. We watched
the Timberwolves nearly get all the way to the NBA
Championship last year playing defense as well as they could
before they just you know, fell apart. But this shows
you how important that is. And I'm this is a
bigger championship level reason that anybody wants to give them

(28:58):
credit for.

Speaker 4 (28:58):
And that's really shouit. We' spending a lot of ten.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
Yeah, over the last eighteen games, fourteen and four, you've
seen some big wins, some curious losses. Right, we look
and go back to that back to back Utah and Charlotte.
Those are just odd, but on the balance they're outliers, right,
bad nights, off nights, whatever. And for Denver against the Lakers,
you know over the weekend comes back to opportunities to

(29:23):
hit shots, and you didn't, right because Jokic just passing
out of those situations hit a shot, right, And that's
the thing. Forced guys to make plays, switch up, be aggressive,
and do you have the depth to do that? The
same question with like they're slightly deeper than the Knicks,
but not by much.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
Yeah, right, at least to this point.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
And maybe you get some other bodies that can give
you some some heavy minutes Michael Robinson, But who knows
the guy's for you, right, but for your Nicks, And
then you look at the Lakers and getting healthy and
getting the rotations. Look, Luca is only going to give
you so much of even an effort defensively, and Lebron
can still be really good in spurts, but it's all

(30:05):
gonna come down to shot making. But the defensive side
of things has been impressive because you go through the
run that they've had during this time.

Speaker 4 (30:13):
And it's not a lot of slouches.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
I mean, there's a couple of outlier, really bad squads
where you're you're beating up on a Wizard squad a
couple of times, and and whatever. But otherwise you're beating
the Knicks, You're beating Denver, You're beating Golden State a
couple of times. You're taking care of the Clippers. They
can't get on the court fully again tonight. No Norman Powell,
remember how he's gonna replace Everybody's Like, Ah, he could

(30:37):
have gone to the All Star Game?

Speaker 4 (30:38):
Would you have played? Would that have kept him on
the court for these games? I don't think it. Why
you never know? The All Star Game is a big,
big healing.

Speaker 3 (30:45):
Powers of healings like Lake Minnetonka.

Speaker 4 (30:49):
Sure, yeah, suddenly that's that's not like Minnetonka. That's all
that was all. You know, it is what it is.

Speaker 3 (30:54):
But you know, but the Lakers is gonna be an
interesting run towards the playoffs and and as good as
you anything, you keep the stars healthy and if maybe
Dalton connect can become something off the bench, an extra shooter,
the trade that never happened actually benefits you down the
road as folks are trying to collapse on on Luca

(31:15):
and to Lebron. So yeah, it's gonna be a fun
run at the top. But everybody chasing.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
Okayc let's find out what's trending right now in the
wide world of sports. Man who's been called the Dalton
Connective Fox Sports Radio. We liked him, tried to trade him,
it didn't work, and now he's back. It's Steve to
Sayger he failed the physical. You know, Connect four is back.
But it wouldn't it be human to not kind of

(31:42):
want to go on the court for the team that
traded you. Because when you get drafted by a team,
you're young, you're impressionable. You think, wow, it's the Lakers.
I want to be around here.

Speaker 5 (31:52):
Forever, yeah or three months, whichever comes from snap out
of it.

Speaker 4 (31:58):
I go off moonst.

Speaker 1 (32:01):
I wouldn't be surprised if in the offseason this gets
revisited again.

Speaker 4 (32:04):
I would not be surprised. Sure the trade you're tucking, yeah, well,
or don't connect somewhere, We'll get Brunson back from the
next one. In the late.

Speaker 5 (32:12):
College basketball game, Kansas did win at Colorado seventy one
sixty four. Michigan a forty nine forty six winner at
Nebraska Wolverinees tied for first with Michigan State in the
Big Ten about two weeks left in the regular season.
Fourth rank Houston is sixteen to one in the Big
Twelve Conference after winning at tenth rank Texas Tech tonight
sixty nine sixty one. Tech from three point range was

(32:34):
six for thirty. Utah fired coach Craig Smith and women's
soops Texas is the new number one, and it won
fifty seven twenty six at Georgia tonight. As for the NBA,
the late game at Sacramento, so Zach Levine scored forty
two points in a win over Charlotte one thirty to
eighty eight. Levine from three point range eight of nine,
Portland edge Utah one fourteen one twelve Keyante George and

(32:56):
the loss six of twenty two from the floor, including
missing a late three point attempt. Minnesota was down twenty
five in the third quarter at Oklahoma City and still
beat him in overtime one thirty one, one twenty eight
despite thirty nine points from Shay Gilgis Alexander. Detroit won
at seventh in a row, beating the Clippers. Denver got
nineteen assists from Nicola Jokicen won at Indiana. Atlanta got

(33:20):
fourteen assists from Trey Young and beat Miami. Washington ended
a six game losing streak, downing Brooklyn, and Chicago ended
a six game losing streak winning at Philadelphia one forty
two to one ten. Philly has lost eighth straight and
Joel Embiat is having more tests on his knee this week.
In the NHL's late game at LA Kings five to
two over Vegas. Earlier, Winnipeg with quite the comeback, winning

(33:43):
its tenth straight game an overtime winner against San Jose
two to one. The Jets tied it with under thirty
seconds left in regulations.

Speaker 4 (33:51):
Now clutch of the Jets, what did Rogers do touchdown?
Had No?

Speaker 5 (33:55):
Nobody has ever said that sentence, actually, at least not
in reference football.

Speaker 4 (34:00):
Now you're a Super Bowl free Have we said that?

Speaker 5 (34:03):
Uh? Well, let's speaking of New York Met's pitcher Sean
and I expected to start the season on the aisle
with a strained oblique. Six spring training exhibitions in Florida
were canceled due to bad weather. Carolina Panthers will allow
linebacker Shaq Thompson to leave in free agency, and sportscaster
Al Troutwick passed away of cancer at age sixty eight.

Speaker 4 (34:21):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve, I appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (35:00):
If you hate the Yankees, this is the greatest day
of the last twenty years.

Speaker 1 (35:05):
As part of the Yankee Makeover, Yeah, I want to
make sure we're friendlier. People like us more. Oh that's
a TV show. Yeah, the Yankee Makeover. Ty Pennington shows
ab outside Yankee Stadium with a bullhorn.

Speaker 4 (35:18):
Let's get ino. Well if you're wow, you got a
ty Pennington references.

Speaker 3 (35:23):
I think he's chilling for those online slot machines or something.

Speaker 4 (35:26):
Now.

Speaker 1 (35:27):
Oh, I thought I sawone like Late Night doing like
a Hey, do you want to buy gold Like?

Speaker 4 (35:31):
Oh, is he doing that too much? Something might not
be gold Eye. I could be with.

Speaker 3 (35:35):
Those Sama Jackson's doing the thing for the Little Games
now too. But either way, I mean that that kind
of thing. But you know, you're not the Evil Empire anymore,
so you need to forge a new identity.

Speaker 4 (35:45):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 1 (35:46):
They decide, Hey, we're gonna be okay if people want
to have beards on our team.

Speaker 4 (35:49):
You know, the whole clean cut rule we've had for
the last year Duck Dynasty beards.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
We realized that, hey, you know, that's not as cool
as it was because we're not the destination we were,
and free agency, saying no, so we don't want to
lose out to any long hair hippies who want to
come side with us. So, yeah, you can now have
a beard if you want to play for the Yankees.

Speaker 4 (36:07):
Oh great, Grizzly Adams had a beard.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
And now they make an announcement that they're going to
change the music they play following Yankee losses. Now, normally
the Yankees play a game at home and when they finished,
they play New York, New York.

Speaker 1 (36:23):
By Frank Sinatra, Right, great, big ever, yeah you hear
it over, then that's the Yankees. They win it six
or two out right, Okay, it's a thing. For some
ridiculously stupid reason, the Yankees decided, no, no, no, we're
gonna have a new song when we lose, and it's
probably gonna be That's Life by Frank Sinatra, which they

(36:44):
debuted yesterday. This is why this is the best day
if you hate the Yankees in twenty years, because for
some reason, I don't know how this happened. I mean,
I'm glad it did, because it's great for us, is
that they decided we need a loser song.

Speaker 4 (36:59):
We need a song we play when we lose.

Speaker 1 (37:03):
Who thought that was a good idea, because now anybody
control the Yankees whenever they want to over their loser
song top of the ninth inning, two outs on the road,
you're gonna said, hear.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
It, that's live.

Speaker 1 (37:15):
That's everybody's gonna sing throughout the entire stadium.

Speaker 4 (37:19):
You were riding high before the game. Tonight you're shot
down to nine.

Speaker 1 (37:23):
I mean, all the trolling that can be done because
the Yankees decide we want to play a loser song
after the game, just stick with New York, New York.
I don't know why you had to change it, but
now all you've done is give ammunition to everybody else
around league. Oh, gonna play that loser song for you.
I don't know any team that says, hey, we gotta
have a song for when we lose. We're talking about

(37:45):
play the same song, all right, Like the Chargers played
San Diego Superchargers. You know they're in time when they
win big games, they lose big games.

Speaker 4 (37:54):
You hear that. One of the greatest sports.

Speaker 3 (37:55):
Songs of all time, Marcos, they just played this sad
we have forevery l n's.

Speaker 4 (37:59):
Before no No, that's Timmy four and after before. But
I mean it was great.

Speaker 1 (38:05):
Hey, we're playing our song, win or lose, We're playing
our song and that's a cool thing. No, no, no,
we're gonna have a song when we lose. We're gonna
have a loser song. And that's the best. That's the best.
Who's all the time. I already told my dad once
he called yesterday and second been.

Speaker 4 (38:20):
A puppet, a pirate, a poet.

Speaker 1 (38:22):
He goes, let me know when you're done, and then
I can hear him saying, I'm holding the phone away
from me until you're done.

Speaker 4 (38:27):
Wait, wait, song. When's Walt's birthday again? Not till December? Okay,
so you got several months here.

Speaker 3 (38:33):
Okay, you need to go out and spend about one
hundred dollars on a used keyboard. Okay, he need to
learn the piano opening so you could bust out the keyboard.

Speaker 4 (38:44):
Hey, dad, i'd.

Speaker 3 (38:45):
Learned something special for your birthday. Sausage, some sausage, and
then you start playing the beginning of that's life. See
how long before he either throws a glass at you
or attach you?

Speaker 4 (38:57):
I did, dad?

Speaker 1 (38:59):
How did this get through to that? You know we're
gonna do We're gonna change a song. So we're gonna
have a loser song.

Speaker 3 (39:05):
You know, for years are we had a colleague here
still still does some TV work with our buddy Ben
Maller coming up next year on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (39:13):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (39:13):
Tom Looney who always said, never assume the people that
have a big title or in charge know what they're doing.

Speaker 4 (39:19):
This is one of those moments for the Yankee brass.

Speaker 3 (39:22):
Everybody's sitting around a table going, all right, we need
to we need to change some things. You've already done
the facial hair thing, like we gotta as we're in
recruiting and and trying to bring in free agents and
and sell guys on the team. You know, some folks
have an individual style that we need to be sensitive to, Okay,
and they don't want to give that up as the
brand identity.

Speaker 4 (39:41):
Okay, Yeah, I guess we can talk about that. What
else you got?

Speaker 2 (39:45):
Ah?

Speaker 4 (39:45):
The song? This is I really it is. It is.

Speaker 1 (39:50):
It is the best news because this is now a
way to troll the Yankees. And I wouldn't be surprised
This lasts I don't know, a week or two, maybe
maybe into a little bit in regular season, and then
Yankes go, no, we're going back to New York, New York,
Like it's too embarrassing for us to play a loser
song after we lose a game.

Speaker 3 (40:09):
But like they they send down Wally the Green Monster
when they're in Fenway and all of a sudden, he's
got a suit in a fedor on. This is like
that he's dancing around.

Speaker 1 (40:19):
This is like they brought in outside consultants who said, Hey,
my special especially is branding and what we need to do.

Speaker 4 (40:26):
We can change the branding.

Speaker 1 (40:27):
Yeah, gotta get rid of that facial air thing and
gotta play a different song when you lose when you win.

Speaker 4 (40:31):
So you have two different things going on. Yeah, it's
all about Brandon. Trust me.

Speaker 1 (40:34):
I got all the I got all the data that
says this is how you should do it. No, you
just you decided to have a loser song.

Speaker 3 (40:41):
So people need to have different emotions, right, the highs
of a win, the sadness of a loss. So we
need to we need to have a different song.

Speaker 1 (40:48):
Uh, how ask how ask that? You want a question?
