Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Oh highat high heat.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Kemper's flaring all right, at least in the hallways here
of Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (00:12):
I can't repeat some of the game.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Well I was. It's a long way of getting there.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
Stick with me, Okay, it's not my first rodeo, buddy,
I've done this. I've taken it around the track a
couple of times, shocking awe as we broadcast live from
the tire rack dot Com studios. Tire rack dot com
will help you get there on unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free road hazard protection over ten thousand recommended in stallars

(00:38):
tirac dot com the way tire mining should be. And yes,
Arnie Spaniard, to your point, it's now five to five
bottom ten.

Speaker 5 (00:46):
Mookie Bets looks like he just got off Bourbon Street
in New Orleans. Because how many beats does he have
around his neck?

Speaker 2 (00:54):
I'm just well, I mean, you hit a big home run,
throwing things your way?

Speaker 4 (00:58):
Is he lifting his shirt up or something? I don't understand.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
The bigger thing is he doesn't. He doesn't look like
he has an ass. I mean, like the pants. I mean,
he lost so much weight. I'm feeling bad for the guy.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
What happened? No food poisoning that at this.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Point they've left it at food poisoning.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
And as we say it, Mookie Bets says, take your
high cheese. You want to send me to the dirt,
I send you into the dirt, into the dirt, dirt
napping with a three run home run to walk it.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
Off, did he I'm behind you like yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:34):
So they pulled the outfielder playing in trying to cut
things off. Instead a rocket to left field and Bookie
Bets and the Dodgers eight to five. A final Shaye
has been he just ran a lap around the Fox
Sports radio studio.

Speaker 5 (01:51):
I'm watching it now, and you want Boston to get
over the trade.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
A hundred percent. Look you can't look.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
You can't cling in the past, man, it'll lead you
up inside it. Just let the card just eat you up.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
How many runs did they score the tenth inning?

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Well, he just scored a five spot, Oh my goodness,
and all with the yeah and that's a no doubt
her home, no one out.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
They did have one out. I'm sorry it went.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Out launched and then that guy gaged it in the
front row. Maybe they did him a cell and threw
that ball back up.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
Perfect season still intact.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
There you go, perfect SEAO home run night for Mookie Betts,
obviously feeling much better, still lean as can be. Might
not have had an ass, but he had power in
that low lower part of his body to power that through.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
When do we starting through the zone.

Speaker 5 (02:41):
When do people start jumping on that Dodger bandwagon. Not
so much because they're winning, when they start going, you know, oh,
they they will compete.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
For one hundred and sixteen wins. It's gonna take a
while though.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
Well, I mean, look, it's been a lot of the prognostication,
right is that over under number? Was that that one
three one oh four and a half kind of thing,
So I know a lot of folks were hammering the
over on that.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
Just that was the highest scree Yeah, the highest in baseball.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Yeah, I mean so looking at it and their World
Series odds being at plus two twenty two thirty depending
on where you're shopping, maybe you got it out to
plus two fifty. But even with all those other NL teams,
as we were discussing a little bit early, Arnie, all
those NL E squads that come in short, short odds
thereafter the Mets and the Phillies, et cetera. That and

(03:32):
obviously the Braves are number two, ahead of even the Yankees,
who are the highest the AL side.

Speaker 5 (03:39):
If you should bet like the top three teams in
the American League, hope one of them gets to the
World Series and then they upset the Dodgers and you'll
get some good odds or something like that.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Well that's the thing, right, and then you start getting
back into our heads your bets things. But here you go,
Arnie Spanier, because I know you love a grand finale.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Let's hear it for another three.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
Moki swings high fly ball let field in deep. This
bowl's back, This.

Speaker 6 (04:06):
Bowls Don.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
Molk simply magic.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
He rouse the tosses his helmet to the sky.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
And the Dodgers walk off.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Whitters AM five seventy LA Sports on the call the
excitement and immediately, you know, I get little the hair
stand up on the arms when I hear Randy Newman,
I don't know. It's a Pavlovian experience for me. I mean,
and also when he sings short people. But you gotta

(04:42):
go deep into the catalog for that one, because that
doesn't get played very much either, Like do I love
la parts of it? Sure, I've been here a long
long time, but like there's something about that song, just
that opening chord that just hits and the crack of
the bat.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
I mean, how great is that. It's like they had
a microphone on the bat.

Speaker 5 (05:01):
And you know the Dodgers aren't even hitting that well
other than Otani and Bets, everybody's hitting like just pathetic.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
It was just horrible.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
So but I knew you had to be glass half
empty guy there.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
And there's still for it though there's no well but that.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
But that's where you start getting into some of these
these odds and ends, right when you're getting into the
betting market and trying to prognosticate and looking at the squad.
While you're saying last year, think about all the starting
pitching they had to go through, Arnie. They have seventeen
different guys start a game. You had a couple of
months where bullpen games became a regular area.

Speaker 5 (05:39):
Well that's what you that's that's what baseball is now.
When you have pitchers just going four or five innings.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
Well, sure that that's a whole other problem.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
They have Philly Martin and the Oakland A's how many
complete games did they have that year?

Speaker 3 (05:52):
But sure go back to what the Orioles had in
the with that rotation, right, those twenty game winners.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
We joke about it.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
We joke about it looking at the back of a
Nolan Ryan baseball card that he had more complete games
in the late seventies and eighties than most teams do
for the year the league does for that matter. At
this point, like we the complete game has gone the
way of the Dodo bird. I mean it is it
is a final and even when you're pitching well and

(06:22):
you have it, it becomes the well they're going to
see it for the third time the end would say.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
That's gonna hurt.

Speaker 5 (06:26):
It's not going to hurt more arms instead of making
it better because they're not going to be used to
be I mean, pitching just three four innings at the time,
you know you're not going to build any strength in
that thing.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
Well, and that's part of the equation, right when we
start looking at relievers as well, you're coming in and
all you're doing is throwing one hundred right and the high.

Speaker 5 (06:47):
Right.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
But usage and this is where you know, we start
trying to figure out this brave new world sample sizes,
and it's still in its infancy, So what does it
look like a couple of years hence, I don't know,
but we certainly know the changing of the game. And
as much as you try to preach, hey, multi sports

(07:10):
use different body parts, muscles, whatever, the specialization and the
push to do it, because of the large contracts available
to you as a basketball player, as a as a
baseball player, that you're not necessarily getting that well rounded. Hey,
I'm playing all sports anyway.

Speaker 5 (07:27):
Right, right, And that's what they that's what they recommend
now from a from an early age, they say.

Speaker 4 (07:32):
You gotta play all sports.

Speaker 5 (07:33):
Otherwise if you just stick to one, you're due for
a major injury.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Well and that's it. Or you get the Tommy John
out of the way. That was the theory for a
couple of years too.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
So now that's just like commonplace now to have Tommy John.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
Well, I mean, you had six guys in the White
Sox organization during spring training had to have a Tommy
John surgery already.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
And it still takes a long time to come back
from them.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
No, but that's the thing, right, and it's such an
it's still months but even as much as you've redefined
that process and streamlined that process, are the guys really
going to be back to what they were?

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Or?

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Dare I say better.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
As some might suggest, But I mean on the whole right,
you're gonna have outliers. You're gonna have some guys. But man,
that's an awful big price to pay and a lot
of rehab for the shot to get back on the mound.
And then we've seen guys have to go through it
a second time, you know, And for a while we
had the torn labram was the big injury, the en

(08:32):
vogue injury. Also, that's the thing for a lot of
weekend Warriors. I think I have a torn labram in
my left shoulders. Not a pain just even trying to
toss soft toss of football around the Fox Sports Radio studios.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
Toughen up, Buttercup, let's go.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
Well that's just it. Maybe no, not at all.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
I gotta be out there chucking three pointers like you, buddy.
That's what we do. Eight five year final in ten
mookie bets with the walk off three run homer.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
You're gonna have to go to games. I know you
said that. You're busy and you're on the air and
have to make time to go to games.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
I gotta figure it out. Maybe we take some days off.
Maybe Shay and Mary and we dragged the saga with
us and we go to some games.

Speaker 4 (09:12):
I'll fill in.

Speaker 5 (09:12):
You guys, go to the games, enjoy yourself, get yourself
some Dodger dogs, go and sit out there and then
soak up the sun and just have a good time.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
It becomes the thing, like I become more and more
invested in the squad because I find myself becoming the
guy in conversations that defends the way they've built the squad. Right,
you do radio hits across the country, and there's a
lot of lamentation of it's not fair.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
It's like, you know your team can do.

Speaker 4 (09:39):
This, it's fair. It's not fair, Yeah, they I mean.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
The deferred contracts have been there forever. If you want
it to stop, guess what this is where we go
to the CBA and you have to force that that
can't happen anymore.

Speaker 4 (09:51):
It's not like the are gonna do deferred contracts.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
And like I said, well, they paid a couple of
guys because they.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
Had to, yes, right, because they're so low on pay roll.

Speaker 5 (10:00):
Right, now, and how about that they're playing where in Sacramento.
I don't think people realize they're playing in Sacramento and
the Rays are playing in.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
What a It's stein Renner Field. That's where the Yankees
training spring training is.

Speaker 4 (10:15):
But it's like ten thousand people.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
Yeah, it's a great little park.

Speaker 7 (10:18):
Though.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
You know, one of my one of my first TV
hits was on that field. Buddy, how I proved to
my parents I had a real job.

Speaker 5 (10:26):
There's more people at a Wood football game than that
game ten thousand.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
I see.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
I really thought you were gonna, you know, do me
the disservice of bringing up the Savannah bananas and dancing around.

Speaker 4 (10:36):
Look, the Savannah bananas are sewing out football.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
We sold out, Raymond James.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
Yeah, they really got a five right.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Down the road from Steinbrenner Field.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (10:44):
But yeah, that's that's the part. Right now, I'm wondering
what's going to happen with the Rays. I know that
the other owners are trying to get them to sell,
and you know, I would love them to be right
up here in.

Speaker 4 (10:55):
My neck of the woods.

Speaker 5 (10:56):
I'm one hour from Montreal, and Montreal would be a
great place to go ahead and put a team back
up there. I think it would do real good pusure
to have that, you know, Canadian you know, rivalry and
stuff like that.

Speaker 4 (11:10):
So we'll see what happens in that situation that.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
We keep talking about expansion, right, we've seen it WNBA
they had the Valkyries up in the Bay Area. They
said they've sold over ten thousand season tickets right first
for the product up there, and expansion for the NBA.
We had a little bit on Adam Silver saying it's
more likely, or I should say Brian Winhorse citing his

(11:33):
sources all the way back to the commissioner talking about
the expansion of the game and potentially a euro League
that they get involved with as opposed to what seemed
to be obvious pursuits in Las Vegas and Seattle.

Speaker 5 (11:45):
Would back up for a second, you mean, because maybe
I see I didn't read the article.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
Are you such good?

Speaker 4 (11:50):
No?

Speaker 5 (11:51):
I thought it was a I thought they were just
added one that one team in Europe to play in
the I didn't know they want to have a euro League.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
Yeah, so the expansion there, right, so it becomes the
the devil in the details of trying to take over
and create a new new.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
League like a G League type thing or yeah, so.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
Announce exploring the possibility of launching a new league on
the countin. This was from euro League Supremo Paulias Montagunis.

Speaker 4 (12:23):
Well, you know, think about this, I mean, we have
the G League.

Speaker 5 (12:26):
Is it Lebron and his company trying to start another
weekue two or no?

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Well, there's been a lot. Yeah, there's all these.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
Different iterations of junior leagues and developmental leagues, and then
it becomes a question of do you want to go
play overseas? And certainly right now for the NBA while
we're on this is and we'll get to Bruce Pearl
and backed into the transfer and what a wild night.
This has been a in a moment. But you know,
when we talk about the the advancement of these leagues

(12:59):
is do you want to go play overseas where a
lot of the infusion of money and talent is right?
Because we do that all right, who are the top
names in the game? And one of the complaints of well,
that guy can't be the face.

Speaker 4 (13:10):
Or do you want to stay here in the US? Though?

Speaker 3 (13:12):
Right, that guy can't be the face of the league
because he's from insert country.

Speaker 4 (13:16):
Here.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
Hell, they did that with with Shay Gildess Alexander nothing political.
That guy's Canadian and it's still the well, you know what,
he's a foreign player. He can't possibly be the face
of the league. Whereas Adam Silver goes forget about television ratings.
Our growth is overseas.

Speaker 5 (13:33):
What about WNBA is doing that unrivaled league, that three
on three thing.

Speaker 4 (13:37):
I'm just wondering with all these new leagues, whether it's.

Speaker 5 (13:40):
In the basketball or you know, like Fox is doing
with the football in the spring.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
Just started today, Yeah, new season, and they sent the
letter to Dwayne Johnson saying, hey, we're doing this without
the CBA being ratified. Let's get this done instead of striking,
they said, well, we'll do it in good faith.

Speaker 4 (13:58):
I think there's a market for sports like that.

Speaker 5 (14:01):
I don't want to call it fringe sports, but uh
maybe secondary sports or well, I mean it's still football,
it's still basketball, just on a different level. So I
think there's gonna be played, especially over in Europe for basketball.
I think that would do very well. I'm wondering who's
going to put that together. Will it be the NBA,
Will Lebron get a league going? Is Lebron ever gonna

(14:22):
get a team in Las Vegas. I'm waiting for that.

Speaker 4 (14:24):
That but I don't know.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
As soon as he started talking conclusion.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
Yeah, but as soon as he started talking all these
conspiracy theories and putting some air in that balloon, I.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
Think that's a problem.

Speaker 3 (14:33):
I gotta think Adam Silver, even as much as he's
the you know, a puppet at times to the players, like,
I gotta still think that that necessitated Hey, hold on, I'm.

Speaker 5 (14:43):
Shocked that as it't happened already. And I know people
like you can't own a team and play for another No,
but his wife could own a team.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
Well that's you can put it like that. Put the
assets in another person's name.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
Well you can't do that to Bryce because Bryce might
be able to play, I don't know, but nothing else
he can be a Laker in two years.

Speaker 5 (15:00):
Can put in another another relative's name, I mean, Bud
Selick when he took over as the commissioner, had to
go ahead and put the team the Milwaukee Brewers and
his wife's name I believe were his child's name.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
Yeah, because that always seems above board.

Speaker 4 (15:14):
Well that's what you gotta do, man. You don't have
a choice.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
You gotta we don't need those backdoor shenanigans, all right,
So unrivaled the w NBA league. And this is you
know again, since we're in the NBA w NBA discussion, right,
that's co founded by Breonna Stewart and the FISA Collier.
It's player owned, so the players have their equity invested interest.
Does the growth of the w NBA now mean that

(15:38):
they should figure out what the dollar amount is to
get away from the from the NBA having their their.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
Clause in them at this point?

Speaker 3 (15:45):
Meaning what as in they become a self operated operation,
although that.

Speaker 5 (15:50):
Will never happen. They're still losing money hand over fifth.
That's with the money coming from the NBA.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
That's what they have.

Speaker 5 (15:56):
They can't stand on their own. They just can't do it.
There's just there's First of all, people don't understand this.
You know, who are fans of the WNBA. Men are
fans of the WNBA, not women. Mostly men are fans
of the WNBA. And two, there's just not enough people
going to the games. I'm sure you sell out some

(16:17):
games out there. And I see what's going on with
Caitlin Clark, she's drawing him in like crazy. But that's
just one person, one team. You can't make a living
off that.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
But very huge ratings. Forty four games are going to
be nationally televised of Bagan Cark of the Fever.

Speaker 5 (16:34):
Yeah, I'm rightfully so. I mean you might as well
play off her. She's She's what the WNBA is all about.
But you know, let me ask you this, how come
we're not getting excited about Becker's.

Speaker 4 (16:46):
Coming into the WNBA. She's a damn good player, right?
Why are we not?

Speaker 3 (16:52):
Like, look at her, hey, Kim, first move or advantage baby?
So when everybody was lamenting Becker's and Juju everybody else,
we're we're still in Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese waiting on
Cameron Brink Terry.

Speaker 4 (17:07):
Yeah, but isn't Becker's just as good as sure?

Speaker 3 (17:10):
But but you're still riding on that. So it's been
done right. The second one through doesn't get the same fanfair.

Speaker 4 (17:17):
She doesn't get any fan fair.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
That's categorically untrue.

Speaker 4 (17:21):
I find her not very likable, really, Yeah, why is that?

Speaker 2 (17:26):
I don't know, there's just something you gotta get. You
gotta give me more than labletake.

Speaker 5 (17:32):
I find her unlikable sometimes her at flack her demeanor
when she meant demeanor when she gives interviews, and she's.

Speaker 4 (17:44):
Kind of I don't want to say nasty sometimes and.

Speaker 5 (17:47):
I know she's very competitive. Maybe that's what it has
to do with but I don't find her is is appealing.
And I'm not talking about looks as Caitlin Clark.

Speaker 3 (17:57):
Like I say, Caitlyn Clark was pretty prickly awful lot
of times she does the furrow. I'm saying in just
an interviews, she's doing the you can't see me John
Cena thing that was done on the court or dare
you to take this three point shot that people got
so mad about it?

Speaker 2 (18:13):
But like she wasn't always smiley bubbly in interviews.

Speaker 5 (18:17):
So you think Becker's then has the same type of
attention that Kitlyn Clark.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
Go no, no, no, But that's what I'm saying is
she's the second one through, but she's getting attention, like
nobody's dismissing what she and you connor doing.

Speaker 5 (18:32):
No right, But we'll see if she gets the attention
that Caitlin Clark got her.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
Nobody, how are you measuring half the attention?

Speaker 4 (18:40):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Now you're you're moving. You're moving the goalpost here.

Speaker 4 (18:45):
Rather, I don't have the definition, but I know it
when I didn't even.

Speaker 6 (18:48):
Give you.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
And you gave up quickly like so many defensive minds.

Speaker 5 (18:54):
I'll know it when I see it. Wheneverybody calls it,
get plays that she's getting too much?

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Are you citing Supreme Court rulings on dirty movies? And
then that's we're here on a Friday end of Saturday.
My goodness. Oh, he's Ernie Spanier in for Jason Smith.
I'm Mike Carmon. I don't even know what he's doing
anymore at stick a genius one. If you can try
to translate and find me over at Swollen Dome, tell
me all about it. Back to Bruce Burrell, I loved

(19:21):
what he had to say about the transfer portal this week.
A lot of handwringing. Bruce Burl says, Eh, well, here
we're from the coach as he goes to the Elite eight.
What he had to say next on Fox.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Speaker 2 (19:46):
Keep Walking it off.

Speaker 3 (19:47):
Yeah, let's go big Friday night into Saturday morning. Here
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with Me, Mike Carmon,
Arnie Spanier in for Jason Smith.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
We've had a blast.

Speaker 4 (19:57):
Can I read you one tweet? Of course?

Speaker 2 (19:59):
Tell well, I mean, I'm okay with it. Nicole says this.

Speaker 4 (20:03):
Nicole says this. No, no, no, sayss thinking genius. You
hit it right on the news, Arnie.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
Is that why we wanted to read it?

Speaker 4 (20:11):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (20:12):
Okay, Becker's doesn't have Caitlin's charisma nor the personal accessibility
of Alex Morgan. Okay, I thought I thought that was
exactly right. I just don't find her as likable as
Caitlin Clark. I'm not sure what it is. Maybe it's
charisma or whatever, but she's not on the same.

Speaker 4 (20:34):
Page here, and she's just as good right as she's.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
It's not there's no question about it.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
Yeah, we'll see what she does in the WNBA.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
Yeah, it's the question, like part of it goes down
to your accessibility. You're at Yukon gino Oriama takes up
a lot of oxygen in that space.

Speaker 5 (20:53):
Oh you're telling me, you know that's my one. That's
not my one regret. That's one thing I'll never stand
why Gino never left to try to coach men's basketball
and to see what kind of job he would have done.
I really wanted to see what kind of job he
would have been able to do.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
But it's the kind of thing if he was happy.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
It's the I wis for other people, right, I know, opportunities.

Speaker 5 (21:16):
I know that, And you could see the same thing
about Hurley going to the Lakers. Would Hurley have taken
the Laker job now if he knew that Luca was
going to be on the team, I'm saying yes, if
they said, hey, look, not only were gonna have Lebron
for you until he retires, we're getting Luca for you too.
So that's that's gonna be a done deal. I don't
think he would have turned that one down.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
At that point. I mean, you don't know that Nico
is gonna roll over and play dead.

Speaker 3 (21:40):
No, but no, But I mean, looking again, Anthony Davis
went back and if you looked at what that team
could have been, I thought it was moderately interesting to
see how that season was going to play out. Unfortunately,
he missed a bunch of times Kyrie's done for the year, right,
and like Klay Thompson's dad was even saying, he goes
he feels like he's been a bad like everything that

(22:01):
went there, and now he's the last man standing, right
exact Lively's missed all this time and keep on going
down the line.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
Gafford got hurt, so the shell of what the roster
might have been.

Speaker 5 (22:12):
Yeah, but I think he would have taken it, just
like I said, though, I would have liked the scene
what Gino would have been able to do in the
men's game, And there was a time that Yukon was
struggling how many years back before they had Hurley, But whatever,
it didn't work out and he never did take it.
I'm surprised he did stay that long with the women's team.

Speaker 3 (22:30):
Well, but you know, you find your space in life
and you're comfortable, right, and you've got every year as
a new challenge, especially when you've set that kind of precedence.
Because certainly I've gone at it and we've talked more
about what Gino Orima says than what his teams have
done in recent years.

Speaker 8 (22:48):
Right.

Speaker 2 (22:48):
They they've had some big runs, but they haven't won
in a while.

Speaker 4 (22:51):
No, no, you're right about that. Yeah, I think.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
Again owing to the fact that it is actually pretty
hard to win, right, because he did have that run
of three straight. But that goes back to what twenty fifteen,
twenty sixteen at this point.

Speaker 5 (23:06):
Yeah, No, he's a fantastic coach, I really do. I
think they're the world of him. I just would have
loved to see him on another level.

Speaker 3 (23:13):
Would you love to see Danny Hurley as a Laker coach?
I mean, I'd love to see the history onics on
a day to day I think I.

Speaker 5 (23:18):
Would have just to see if you would have had
the same antics on the sideline.

Speaker 2 (23:23):
He's the greatest bleeping coach in the world, don't you
know that?

Speaker 5 (23:26):
Could you imagine him leaving an NBA arena and do it.
I've got two rings in college, two rings, so don't.

Speaker 4 (23:33):
Come at me like that. It's it would have been interesting.

Speaker 5 (23:37):
And like I said, had he known that they would
have Luca and you can't really tell at the time,
I think he would have taken the job. I think
that that might have been the one point that would
have taken him over the edge and said, fine, let's
do it. Well.

Speaker 3 (23:49):
I always go back to the fact was he actually
offered the job or was it just leverage?

Speaker 4 (23:54):
Oh you don't think he was?

Speaker 3 (23:55):
Oh I think it was just leverage. Really, Oh yeah,
I said that from day one. I don't think that
offer ever.

Speaker 4 (24:00):
Actually, wow, I didn't think about it that way.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
I always thought that was a all right, well we
take a trip and there's all this fun stuff.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
But in reality, it's say, how big a check are
you write me? How was it gonna be? How much
better at the facility is gonna be?

Speaker 5 (24:15):
I was gonna say it probably wasn't a big enough
difference for him to want to leave you u kon
and and go to Los Angeles as well.

Speaker 2 (24:21):
That's what I mean.

Speaker 3 (24:21):
I don't again, I don't. I don't know that they
actually extended an offer.

Speaker 5 (24:25):
Yeah, you might be right, you might right way Gutter
tweets and saying Paige Beckers is from Minnesota, she's got
that likability. Okay, all right, I'm so I didn't know
everybody people like.

Speaker 2 (24:34):
The Midwestern girls.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
That part of what Brian Wilson and company saying, that's true, California.

Speaker 4 (24:40):
Girls, that's true.

Speaker 3 (24:41):
The Midwest farmer's daughter make you feel all right, that's.

Speaker 5 (24:45):
Right, look at you pulling out the vocals on that look.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
And the Southern girls. Yeah, we could keep going.

Speaker 3 (24:51):
But Tractor Supply knows that a winning season takes practice, teamwork,
hand a can new attitude. Thankfully, when you have a
neighbor like Tractor Supply, team comes easy. Whether you're caring
for pets, chickens or a few acres, our team members
will help you succeed season after season. Tractor Supply for
life out there. I aspire to that chicken coop.

Speaker 2 (25:11):
Damn it.

Speaker 3 (25:12):
I'm gonna have one you want somewhere down the line,
if nothing else, just so I can have them for
a day, or I'll rent them so I can say
I had a chicken coop and I'll get my supplies
from Tractor Supply and we'll go from there. He's already
Spanner at Stick and Genius. Want to find me at
Swollen Dome, all right? I wanted to play this. If
teas did enough, we got to actually hear it. It's
Bruce Pearl, his team advancing to the Elite eight. But

(25:35):
he had these thoughts from earlier this week, the big
question of hey, the transfer portals opening up, twelve hundred
kids are in it.

Speaker 2 (25:43):
All of that and timing is it right.

Speaker 8 (25:46):
I'm glad that the portal has gone from forty five
days to thirty days because I think thirty days is
enough time for those guys to decide where they want
to stay there when they want to go. And I
think the reason for the timing of doing it prior
just after the Sweet sixteen is almost all the teams
in the country except sixteen teams, the season's over, and

(26:06):
so if you're a student athlete and you're at another
division institution and your season's over at the beginning of March,
you're supposed to have to wait three or four weeks
until the Final four is over before you can move
on with the rest of your life. So I think
the National Associated Basketball coaches kind of looked at it
and said, hey, what might be best for all the
student athletes when we decided to kind of do it

(26:28):
at this window.

Speaker 3 (26:29):
It also matches up with the number of coaches saying
the hell with it, I'm done too, right, and it's.

Speaker 5 (26:34):
Only sixteen and then one week and away you're after
one weekend of games, you're going to be down to
the Final four. So maybe it's a little bit of
an inconvenience with sixteen, but with so many teams in
college basketball, sixteen is just a small number. And most
of these kids aren't going to end up in one
of those sixteen powerhous.

Speaker 4 (26:51):
There's very few of them are.

Speaker 5 (26:53):
The rest are probably going to be spread out through
all the other mid majors and stuff. So I can
understand where Kelvin Sampson's coming from there, But.

Speaker 2 (27:00):
Even that was bridge Pearl.

Speaker 3 (27:02):
But even if with all of it, I just want
to make sure we get our because Kelvin Sampson said,
if you call him Kevin or call it Gonzaga, he.

Speaker 2 (27:09):
Will come and kick your ass.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
Yes, yes, I mean I'm kind of changing up the words,
but that was the general sentiment of it. But as
we look at it, though, it's the if the players
are looking to leave, those are conversations that are already
that's already in the room, right If the coaches are
looking to look at the mess they have at Maryland
that's swirling, you.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
Know, his will are going to be the new Villanova about.

Speaker 4 (27:32):
What was now?

Speaker 5 (27:33):
Was it his attitude and the way he said it
is the reason.

Speaker 4 (27:37):
Why everybody's mad at him about leaving Maryland.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
Is that what's going on it's disingenuous.

Speaker 3 (27:42):
You know, I don't know, honest and honestly, and I
don't know what I'm gonna do. There's tape from him
for three years ago for his last job before he
took the Maryland job, doing the same act.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (27:55):
You miss when he gets the convenient part of there's
no a D because he just left for SMU.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
Hey, I don't know who my boss is right now.

Speaker 5 (28:02):
You know, you're right when he said he comes across disingenuous,
and also when he said I don't know what I'm
gonna do.

Speaker 4 (28:07):
I haven't talked to my.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
Age yet or nobody buys it.

Speaker 4 (28:11):
Stop with the balls.

Speaker 2 (28:13):
He didn't know what was coming, right, you know, don't
lie to me.

Speaker 5 (28:16):
Yeah, stop with the bs. Just say you know what,
I'm gonna talk it over. We're gonna make the decision
as a family. And that's all I'm gonna say on
that right now, right now. Worried about the next game
or whatever, or to talk to my players, there's certain
things you can say to make it more palatable for

(28:37):
the fan base and a lot of coaches, a lot
of fan base, a lot of teams have to deal
with stuff like this, Yeah, you didn't have to go
ahead and give him that type of attitude. I hate
that attitude.

Speaker 4 (28:46):
That really rubbed me the wrong way.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
But that's the thing. There's too many people reporting on this.
It's too big a business that secrets don't get to lie,
and you don't get to lie about the secrets, perhaps
the way you were once upon a time for for
Kevin Willard, for so many of these other guys. I
go back to, uh, the line from the great Keith
Whitley nineteen eighty eight. You say it best when you

(29:09):
say nothing at all, just say hey, working with the team, well,
even the university, all of that. Instead you're sweating profusely,
like you're under the hot lights of an NYPD Blue
episode and Sippowitz has threaten you with the needle. That's
a long, long bit here on the show. And now
I'm rewatching NYPD Blue, and I didn't realize how frequently

(29:31):
such instance has happened. But all of that to say,
it's like, it's the it's not a secret how this
has all done. No puddy, we just don't want to
see in the sausage made.

Speaker 5 (29:42):
I think a puddy of mine was on that TV
show is that right. Nick Deturo is a buddy of yours.
Why is it on the air with us?

Speaker 4 (29:50):
I've had him, I've done a show with him.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
Well, let's have him on. Let's talk Yankees baseball.

Speaker 5 (29:54):
Come.

Speaker 4 (29:54):
I love the Yankees idea, there's no doubt about that.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
And I mean, and he's relating to the Jesus. I
mean all of it's great.

Speaker 4 (30:01):
You want to hear something. We went to the you
would know this, bet.

Speaker 5 (30:03):
I don't want to bory, but but we went to
the batting cages out in the valley out of Los Angeles,
and he came to my house.

Speaker 4 (30:09):
He picked me up in full Yankee uniform.

Speaker 5 (30:13):
Don't down here, the stirrups, everything had the fighter What
are you doing, dude?

Speaker 4 (30:18):
We're not playing.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
We're not We're not going arny.

Speaker 4 (30:21):
It's not like gonna be put into the game.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
What's going on with that?

Speaker 3 (30:24):
Was like me walking into the studio yesterday with everybody
with their jerseys on. I was gonna do some cult
checks randomly around. Oh, I guess who went with us
that day too?

Speaker 4 (30:32):
Another actor. Uh, you wouldn't know him. He's kind of
a big actor. His name's Michael Rappaport.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
Oh never heard of him.

Speaker 4 (30:40):
Oh you didn't hear of him?

Speaker 2 (30:42):
Yeah, I wouldn't know anything of his catalog from Beautiful Girls.

Speaker 4 (30:46):
Okay, so you okay, so you know him.

Speaker 2 (30:49):
He's kind of a big deal.

Speaker 3 (30:50):
He's okay, remember what he did? Did they drafted who?
When they drafted porzingis?

Speaker 2 (30:56):
That's right?

Speaker 4 (30:57):
Hey?

Speaker 3 (30:57):

(37:50):
Shay getting us ready for the show, and of course
Steve di Seger with our news updates. We use the
holiday holiday Holiday Music one because for whatever reason, I've
been fixated and playing and singing a lot of Christmas
songs even around the studio much, I don't know. Suddenly
I just felt like I needed to do a little
bit of Elvis. Why can't every day be like Christmas?

(38:12):
Because people are generally happy and kinder towards each other
into the world. But then it was like I spoke
something into existence, Arnie, because check this out, a big announcement.

Speaker 4 (38:23):
What's up everybody?

Speaker 6 (38:24):
Good morning and the more hamlet here from the Buffalo
Bills with an early Christmas President. We have big news today.
Hallmark Channel and the NFL have selected the Buffalo Bills
and then twenty twenty five countdown to Christmas Movie Draft.
Stay tuned this holiday season for the all new Hallmark
Channel movie Holiday Touchdown, A Bill's Love Story.

Speaker 2 (38:46):
Are you ready?

Speaker 5 (38:48):
I mean yeah, you know what usually I'm not surprised
they picked the bills. Usually they want to film stuff
like that in the round, snowy weather and stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (38:58):
Well, but you also have the other hot the other
celebrity couple, aren't he. That's the best thing is that
you have Taylor Swift and Travis Kelcey. So part one
you did the chiefs. Now you do the bills because
you've got Hailey Steinfeld of the MCU and Josh Allen.

Speaker 4 (39:14):
I always wanted to be in a Hallmark movie. I
always wanted to be.

Speaker 2 (39:17):
Well, we got to figure out how to make that happen.

Speaker 3 (39:18):
I'm gonna start, but I'm gonna start doing a letter
writing campaign to Mario Lopez, friend of the show, friend
of the network.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
See if we can't make that happen, that we can
have one.

Speaker 5 (39:29):
Of those black and red, you know, fleece lumberjack shirt
type things.

Speaker 2 (39:35):
I think we can all find a little flannel and
make that work.

Speaker 5 (39:38):
I could walk around with an axe and saying I'm
the innkeeper or something.

Speaker 2 (39:41):
Now that would be interesting. That took that took a
decided turn.

Speaker 3 (39:44):
I mean because in the first one you had Richard
Wool that you would remember from Office Space alongside d
Drich batter, Megan Price, who was on the sitcom with
Patrick war Burton for all those years on CBS, and
the great at Beglee Junior, who doesn't love so there
you go front to me.

Speaker 4 (40:05):
He's still going, wow, I feel like Stephen A. Smith.
Now go ahead.

Speaker 3 (40:09):
Yeah, you're killing guys off and killing guys you don't know.
I gotta hear your soap opera voice real quick, though?
Can you get that low?

Speaker 5 (40:18):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (40:18):
If I were here, what could I do if he
came at me? Oh well, I'd be throwing hands, Git.

Speaker 4 (40:26):
Up out of here. I love it, I love you
were so in rapture.

Speaker 3 (40:31):
You probably watched hours of that nonsense this week with
Steven A and Lebron stuff.

Speaker 4 (40:35):
You did that stuff up? I eat that stuff up.
I do.

Speaker 3 (40:39):
Why did you just start watching soap operas during the
afternoon instead?

Speaker 4 (40:43):
I should?

Speaker 3 (40:44):
There you go quick, so many good jobs. That was
good stuff. He's already spanning. You're hearing Sunday Chris Blake,
his partner on Sunday Next. Thanks for hanging on Fox.
