So big night tonight in the NBA, and look, we
(00:56):
talked about the Knicks losing to the Pistons last hour
of the show, Gray because of course.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
The Knicks need to win to finish third. You know,
I need to one win, just one one.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
To clinch third plays a win or a loss by
the Pacers. Of course, the Pacers win tonight they beat
the Cavaliers, and of course the Knicks are gonna lose
to the Cavaliers tomorrow night.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
Make it a Knicks next game on Sunday. Through finishes third.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
But I do want to say this because it's been
an up and down roller coaster season and a team
that nobody has given any credit to. And yes, I
get it, I get that when you get to the
end of the season, when you get to game sixty,
teams get ready for the playoffs or they get ready
for the draft. Right, there's so there's so many teams
that quit. However, the Milwaukee Bucks have been playing really
(01:43):
well lately. They've been scoring a lot of points. You
want to go back the last month. Yeah, they had
a couple of games in a row, they struggled to
Denver and New York. But they've now won six in
a row and they're sitting there in that five slot.
They're not getting it there, They're right there. Hey, this
is a team that now become scary and grant. You know,
as a Knicks fan, now I'm scared of everybody because
(02:03):
I can clearly we can't beat anybody good. But I'm
telling the one team we're not giving them any credit.
All It's been a couple of years now since they
won the title. But here they are, and look, Damian
Lillard's been out. It's been a really difficult thing. But
here come the Bucks and they're scoring a ton and
maybe time to look out for them, because some if
you are the Cavaliers and you're looking ahead after the
(02:25):
first round of the playoffs, I mean, of those three
teams that you don't want to play that could be
coming out of that four or five slot right between
the Knicks and the and the Pistons and the Bucks.
Right now the team you absolutely don't want to plays Milwaukee.
You absolutely don't. And it's not it's all of a sudden.
I think Doc is great. Oh, but they've been playing
(02:46):
really well and they figured stuff out outside of the.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
Limelight, and they're scoring a lot of points.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
Look out, well, they'd lost five to seven ahead of
this winning streak, and now you look at it and say,
all right, that's great, a lot of big points tonight
thirty six to one to eleven defeat of the Pelicans.
And that's where I'm gonna double underscore this. That's the
second time in this six game win streak that they
played the Pelicans. Yeah, you also have the long long
(03:12):
ago quit and punted on the season. Philadelphia seventy six ers, uh,
and a team that, let's just face it, they look
good on paper.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
In the last but but look, but in the last month,
you've beaten the Lakers twice, You've beaten Minnesota, You've beaten
Indiana like, you've beaten some good teams as well.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
On this run.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
And like I said, and it's you know, it's it's
you want to just dismiss them, because wow, Lillard's hurt
all you know what they did yea all of a
sudden streaky when you just when you don't expect them
suddenly all because and then I was waiting for the
interview Doc Rivers. You know everybody nobody believed in this team.
I did one hundred percent. I always did. I know,
you think I have one foot out the door. And
if we do, I wait, which we see which way
(03:53):
the wind blows. But right now, I always believed in
this team. I always did, always.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
Did, Doc.
Speaker 5 (03:57):
Game seven, how you feeling today as your team? I'm
not feeling good. Actually, somebody else is gonna coach today.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Listen, I'm gonna get up three to one and then
I'm gonna leave all right, Well, we're up three to one.
I'm leaving at three to one. I think I'm recharged
for the next round. Let my new coach come in
and coach rest of this year.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
It'll be fine. It'd be great. We can bring Button
alls A.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Back for the rest of that series and then I'll
start next series, get up three one, then leave.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
That's how it's gonna work for me.
Speaker 5 (04:19):
Just gonna say, I don't know if there's any kind
of awards for it, but that might be the greatest
interview clip of twenty twenty five. And I know we're
only very early into April, but I mean, Doc Rivers, Hey, hey,
nobody gave us credit for getting up.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
Three to one.
Speaker 5 (04:35):
Yeah, but look, the Bucks are solid and deep squad. Absolutely,
there's no question about it. And be honest, you're watching
the continued evolution of his game. Still at thirty points
a night, but now he added to the huge rebounding total.
He's averaging over six assists tonight. He's taking care of business,
and you've got a good veteran base there. They're getting
(04:57):
great minutes out of Kevin Porter. Junior guy who has
had his share of off court issues, has found a
home there what seven or eight guys that averaged in
double figures. So yeah, their depth will be certainly a problem.
It's just that, Doc Rivers, things just punches me in
the face in it.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Look at my record if you don't count game seven,
what kind of.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
Career have I had? Look at that career? It's it's great,
it's awesome. There's good to great too, unbeatable.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
This is like that old stat And I remember Jason
Stark telling me about this a long time ago.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
He goes, you know, do you know what the Mets.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Record would be like the last three years if the
games were only seven innings like this? Because when like
the Mets, both of them was just so incredibly bad,
And he goes, there, you know that they would have
won if the games were seven innings, they.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Would have won ninety three games instead of the seventy five.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
They wont like that that Like, that's like, Doc Rivers,
Oh give me credit for getting up three one.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
Oh okay, getting a three to one. That's the thing.
That's great. Yeah, that's great. Is it a five game series?
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Oh well then yeah that you need a little bit more, Doc,
Sorry about that, Oh more, Doc?
Speaker 4 (06:03):
Well, but we'll get to see.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
I mean, like season ends on Sunday, get the WNBA
Draft on Monday, and then we get the second season
of three and a half months of basketball.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
No rest, page, Beckers, No rest.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Now as we get set right here we are now
we are two weeks away from the NFL Draft, right
were just sitting here getting ready, and there's a lot
of stuff to break down. There's got a lot of
big hot takes and a lot of big trends we're seeing.
But I can already tell you what the number one
story every day is going to be between now and
(06:39):
the draft. You started to see it a little bit
the last couple of days, and I was wondering, Okay,
how long you know? Is this really gonna be something
that carries Are we gonna get into other story?
Speaker 4 (06:48):
No?
Speaker 1 (06:48):
No, no, this is one gonna be the top story
every single day between now and the draft. Every single
show you watch or listen to will do some variation
of this specific topic every single day every day. It Now,
I hope you like it because it's gonna be every
single day between now and the draft, every single day.
(07:10):
And here it is, every day is gonna be how
good is Shador Sanders really? And where will he be drafted?
Speaker 4 (07:17):
That your daddy and what does he do?
Speaker 1 (07:21):
My mom says, our dad's a real sex machine. Uh,
that's every day. You may get other stuff. Where's aston
gent gonna go? What's goppened here? Oh Jackson Dart, Yeah,
that's great. Up every day? How good is Shador Sanders?
Where is he gonna get drafted? Because every day is
a new expert finds a way to up the hot
take on it.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
I don't think Shador Sanders is a top three pick.
Now it's I don't think Shador Sanders is a top
five pick. Of Shador Sanders looks like a fringe first
round prospect. To me, I wouldn't take Shador Sanders in
the first three rounds of the draft. I would go
I would I would say he'll go undrafted. I would
not even have him on my board. Who does he
remind me of? He reminds me of Jake Plumber? Every
(08:00):
single day it's Shador Sanders just gets worse and worse
and worse. And when you try to break down who's
gonna take him? Like you see everything from He's not
gonna be on the board Pass number two too. He's
not gonna be on the board pass number ten two.
He could wind up a falling to the Steelers who
might trade up for him in the draft. Like that's
it's every single day. That's gonna be the mystery. Where
(08:23):
can we figure out and pinpoint where should door Sanders
is going to go? Because and the drama that comes
with it with with him with Dion and Travis Hunter
is gonna be part of it too. But every single
day is a variation of how good is Shador Sanders
and where will he be drafted?
Speaker 4 (08:38):
That's every single day.
Speaker 5 (08:40):
Well, but that's it until they have the official metric
on the wheel of destruction? How much is on your quarterback?
How much is on your offensive line for a sack? Mean,
we're gonna have these debates, right because every everything is
all right, We'll watch him on this set. The offensive
line gives him no help, Like we can't question the
guy's toughness, right, we've watched it get bludgeoned again. How
(09:02):
much of that beating is attributable to waiting for a
play to happen downfield? And knowing in college football, if
your receivers keep working, you're gonna break containment earlier than
you Will in the NFL. There's just no question about it.
You're not gonna get the same time and level of separation.
But for Shador Sanders, day after day, it's anonymous Scout,
(09:23):
anonymous GM, anonymous this and it's as we talk about
it all the time, the game of Liar's Poker. In
the final weeks before the draft, right the only thing
that seems solidified is cam Ward's number one. I think
he's minus twenty thousand at one of the sports books
right now. But beyond that, you know, Cleveland, we just
(09:44):
talked about Deshaun Watson, Well he's not playing. And yes
you brought in Kenny Pickett, super Bowl champion Kenny Pickett.
But that's it. Is that where a quarterback goes? Or
do you take Travis Hunter or do you look to
Abdull Carter?
Speaker 4 (10:00):
They right there.
Speaker 5 (10:01):
It's it's so huge, it's very sad like like in
the movie Draft Day, Cleveland holds all the cards to
the way this draft, Sonny Weaver holds all the cards
to the way this draft flows. But you know, you've
got the Saints and you've got the Steelers, and even
the Steelers are are the massive question mark. I know
(10:24):
the Saints went and redid Derek Carr's money, but there's
there's no marriage there long term. But you've got the
Raiders still sitting out there. It seems like they're ready
to run through a wall together Gino Smith and Pete Carroll.
Gino already doing all sorts of stuff in the Vegas
era to make himself the king of the city and
(10:45):
endear himself to the folks there, which is fantastic, really
setting down roots. But New Orleans eventually you're turning the
page on Derek Carr. You're not winning with him and
the Steelers. You're waiting on Aarons. The twenty million dollar question,
however much if it's guaranteed as to whether he decides
(11:06):
he wants to be a Steeler or not.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Well, I'll tell you this, and I'm glad you brought
them up because the Steelers. There is no team that
needs Shadoor Sanders more than the Steelers do. Because the
Steelers need to show everybody we still know what we're doing,
because right now they look like they have no idea.
I mean really, I mean you're really gonna go in.
You make the decision last year with Russell Wilson and
(11:29):
justin fields. And now you're following that up with not
even having a guy on the roster with with Mason
Rudolph being the only guy. Really, that's where you're at
right now as we get towards the draft, Like any
other team in the NFL that did this, we would
say this is malpractice and guys need to be fired.
I mean really, but that this is I can't believe
this is where the Steelers are at right If they
(11:49):
don't get Aaron Rodgers, what the.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
Hell is the plan? Right like that?
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Like, really they need something to show that we know
what we're doing.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
And honestly, Shadoor Sanders is it.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
If he falls through the draft and the Steelers decide, okay,
we can make somewhat of an aggressive move to move
up a few spots to get Shador Sanders. Okay, we'll
do it, and then all is forgiven, because then it's
gonna be Wow, look at the Steelers. They waited so long.
They're so smart. Right now, that's gonna piss me off.
(12:20):
It's gonna be the Steelers are so smart. They knew
they were gonna get into the draft and get their guy,
and they moved up. They didn't give up a lot
to move up that the only the one thing they
really need is a quarterback. That's all they need. And
here they are. They get a guy who was projected
to go as high at number two overall. They get
the second best quarterback in the draft. And now they
have their answer at quarterback. And now Mason Rudolph can
(12:42):
go in as the starter and then Shador Sanders will
take over. And hey, here's Sanders with Mike Tomlin. What
a great situation it is for him to learn under
Mike Tomlin. And it's gonna be The Steelers are geniuses, right,
but they need this to show that they know what
they're doing, because if not, it's gonna be really how
the hell do you know not have a plan for
your most important position. You can't make quarterback a get
(13:04):
by position. And that's what the Stealers are trying to do.
Mike Tomlins think it's like nineteen eighty five, y'all will
go get Trent Dilfer over the guy there's hands the ball.
Uh No, you can't do that, man, you can't, because
right now, I guarantee you what they're gonna do is
is they will let the drift.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
They don't give.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
If the quarterback's not there, they'll let the draft go
and draft a running back. They will draft a running back,
and it's gonna be awesome.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
You know.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Maybe they'll draft a kid from North Carolina who's gonna
go in the first round. Right, he's almost like a
cinch to go in the first round. They'll draft a
running back. Oh, we replaced Najie Arris with a more
athletica you still don't have a bleeping quarterback. Man used
to They need Shador Sanders to flip the narrative and
make everybody confident that, okay, there's a plan there. We
(13:43):
know what we were doing. We have the guy who could,
you know, just play for a little bit in Mason Rudolph.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
But boy, here's your draft.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
We really got a value with Shador Sanders in the
middle to middle part of the first round twenty ish
part of the first round versus where we could have
had him over.
Speaker 4 (14:00):
What a great move.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
And now we know what we're doing, and this is
how the Steelers go forward. They absolutely need to do
that well.
Speaker 5 (14:05):
Because they're also showing they don't know what they're doing.
They've got one year left on TJ wats deal, all right,
he's mad.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
He's mad.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
He put a he put a piece out gesture up
on social media yesterday, like, hey, wait a minute, you're
paying all these other guys. I've been here for a while.
I need more money. He put up that piece out thing. Man,
he wants to get paid. But is that what part
of the the draft subplot to all of this is
he gonna get traded for a bevy of picks?
Speaker 5 (14:31):
Do you resign him? Does he play on a lame
duck year? Uh? These questions at all will be answered
here in the next couple of weeks.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
I'm telling you that's a tough one. Man, that's a
tough one. He's thirty years old and he has played God.
He wants to get paid and he wants more money.
This could get pretty ugly because this.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
Is how athletes do it. Right. Hey, I'm not gonna
say that.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
I'm just gonna put something cryptic on social media and
everybody's gonna draw conclusions.
Speaker 4 (14:57):
People are gonna know, well, he's not happy. Okay, he's
not happy. Alright, that's yep, that's how it's gonna go.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
Mack.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
I'm telling you telling you exit out by a fresca
exit swollen Dome, but look, nobody needs Sanders more than
the Steelers do. And again, because you want to show

No no, no, no, my fan, no you want to know. Honestly,
because it goes back to The Running Man. My favorite
is sub zero because I would always say.
Speaker 4 (18:34):
Sub zero, now plane zero. No, I love sub zero?
Really yeah, oh yeah yeah, sure good pick yeah yeah
all from the Running Man.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Uh So, speaking of favorites, all right, I want to
tell you this today. This is this is when I
realized sometimes my breadth and depth of knowledge, Mike Harmon it,
it sometimes blows up in my face.
Speaker 4 (18:57):
Okay, now we'll get to we'll get to the NBA
store in a second. But you need.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
And again yeah, right now, Frozen four going on. Western
Michigan wins a thriller in a double overtime over Denver.
Earlier right now, Penn State and bu playing to be
the other team to go to the championship on Saturday.
And my my niece, my cousin basically uh skates for
Western Michigan on the syncro team and they're getting ready
(19:24):
for the National Championships as well. And so now here's
Western who was in the Frozen four. And you know
they win today, obviously they go to the National champ
So it's a big deal. And I'm texting with you know,
with with with my in laws and everything. It's a
big deal. Hey, watching Western, watching Western. So we're sitting
down watching the game. My wife is watching with me,
and she goes, okay, so I heard you say something
on the show the other night, and I said, what
(19:45):
she was you were talking about? How you know she
would always come watch me play hockey when when I
was growing up, when we were dating and everything and younger,
she's always watched me play. You you you didn't think
you were you were as good as as you thought.
Speaker 4 (19:56):
I said, no, no, no, I Sai didn't say that.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
I said, my skills just kind of average, except I
was accurate and I knew what was gonna happen. That
was my gift, Like you know, Gretzky would always say,
because I'm comparing myself to Gretzy, because I'm like, he
would always say, like I would know, I would know
what the right play was, where the puck was gonna be.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
I like, that was my gift. That's why I was
so good.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
That's why I scored so much, because I knew I
didn't have a great slap shot, did a great risk shot,
but I was accurate and I knew I knew what
the play was gonna be She goesid, what do you mean.
I go, all right, she goes, well, do something with
this game. And I said, okay, So what happens to
be in double overtime? We're watching the game. So we're
watching a play. I'm like, all right, and it's early
in double overtime and Western Michigan breaks out of their
(20:39):
zone with the puck and Mateo Constantini has it and
he's coming up the right side, and I said, okay,
right here, I said, he's got the defenceman.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
He's got the defenseman.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
If he bursts, try to go around him towards the net,
he's going to be able to get a pass to
the front of the net, where someone's gonna be wide
open because they're gonna have no choice but to suck
down to go get him.
Speaker 4 (20:59):
He's got the defenceman on this.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
He doesn't see it right, because I saw the space
the defenseman gave him too much between where he was
at in the boards that he was able to you
can burst around him. They will have to suck down
to get to you, and he's gonna be able to
put the puck in front of the net, right, I said, see,
But here he is he doesn't know he's got the play,
he's got it, and this is all happening, bang bang, Right,
this is all happening, bang bang. He's skating over center
(21:21):
ice and I said, he's got the defenseman, this is
what he should do.
Speaker 4 (21:23):
But what does he do? Instead? He stops and.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
He just floats the puck over the middle to his teammate,
buries the game winner, and it all start celebrating on
the ice, and my wife goes, or they could have
done that, And I'm going, so, you know, any other play,
any other play they could they had.
Speaker 4 (21:42):
To score on that, But I said no, but I
was right. I was right. That was the right play
to make.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
And then of course, now the celebration for Western Michigan,
my family is all muted because my wife just goes,
or they could have done that. I'm like, yeah, no,
but that was still the right play. Like any other
play could have happened. They could have come in and
there could have been some sort of play where he
gets the puck taken away.
Speaker 4 (21:59):
It goes around on the boards like no, no, no,
he had to defense me to take him. But instead it's.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
Just a quick pass over to his teammate and know,
when Michael scores the second goal in the game, great
shot he puts it, you know, roofs it, you know,
right right under the crossbar. I'm like, that's a goal
scorer shot right there. I'm like, okay, yeah, but come on, man,
any other play, any other play. I see the game
better than anybody. What happened here, Well, they did the
opposite of what I said, and they scored the game
(22:24):
winning goal. That's kind of what happened in this game.
Speaker 5 (22:26):
Well, I mean both pass may be correct, right, he
didn't try your way, so you don't know whether it
would have worked.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
Yeah, no, you heart it in my answer. My way
would have worked absolutely.
Speaker 5 (22:37):
And bottom line is, you know, hey, thanks for watchinglutely.
And look, it's a good thing for all those defencemen
and goalies that you were short with a bad first
step and that you were really good at ending Fred
Couple's highlights.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
Yeah, I no, no, but see, but here's the thing.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
In hockey, I was fast, Like I skated pretty well,
gated pretty well north to south and and and being
able to make a couple of I wasn't the best skater,
but I was much faster skating than I was. If
I was playing hockey and running, if that makes sense.
Like some I translated skating to uh, guy at a
pretty wide base. I can get down, I can I
(23:16):
can get down the ice. I could get down the rink.
And I was a little bit faster. I could turn
defenceman like if we were playing like and I'd be like, okay,
well you're you're faster than me.
Speaker 4 (23:26):
But uh but no, but I could do that now,
I could.
Speaker 5 (23:28):
I could schell you. I mean, could you have scored
on sub zero?
Speaker 4 (23:33):
Oh? I could have scored on sub zero.
Speaker 5 (23:35):
By the way, the song is my Austrian death Machine.
Here is sub zero now playing zero. Oh no, I'm
gonna have to listen to it and make sure it's
uh suitable for air.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
But yeah, I just found that sub zero now plane zero.
Speaker 5 (23:56):
You we're learning so much more.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
He was the guy.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
He was the one who was was singing right, He
would was singing in the running man.
Speaker 4 (24:05):
He was the guy that would they would.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Play the uh the classical music and he would sing
as he was going after he drove like some kind
of three wheeler.
Speaker 4 (24:12):
Like, but I think that was sub zero.
Speaker 5 (24:15):
Oh, I'm pretty pretty sure you're it's been a minute
since we've been there. Let's see, it was while there
was sub zero. Okay, wait, hang on, I could do that.
He it was sub zero and then uh, Jim Brown
was Fireball. Yeah, how about the light.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
Jesse the body Ventura was Captain Freedom and who I
missed there was somebody else besides playing zero.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
Uh, they sent somebody else out there early.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
Oh crap, I can't think of the names of the
Stalkers and the running Man.
Speaker 4 (24:42):
Oh that upsets me.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
Now, Uh, that's gonna be a great, great trivia question.
But at least I gave you those three. I gave
you those two.
Speaker 4 (24:47):
No, well done.
Speaker 5 (24:49):
Now it's bugging the hell out of me that I
can't think of it either, Like I can't sure, I
can't think.
Speaker 4 (24:56):
Of like I'm missing a couple more.
Speaker 1 (24:59):
It was was Fireball and Captain Freedom and and sub
Zero and I, ah, I can't. Oh buzz Saw, buzz Saw, saw, Yes,
buzz Saw, Yes, Yaffit Coto kills Buzzsaw and they give
the high five after Yeah, Yaffit Coto kills Buzzy.
Speaker 4 (25:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (25:16):
No, so you you had Dynamo was the guy that
sang oh Dinasa and then sub Zero was famous wrestler
professor Taru Tanaka.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
Okay, that's right, Okay, that was sub zero. That's right
because sub zero was on the ice. Sub zero was
was was on the ice.
Speaker 5 (25:34):
When they come sliding out of the and go yeah yeah, yeah,
he starts shooting exploding pucks at them.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
Yeah, we're gonna put you on I okay ice, Okay,
all right, that's fine.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
Here's Dynamo. We got more coming up in ninety seconds.
Say there's your trip down memory Lane from how about that?
But first, and this is from a listener. Okay, so
I want this is from a listener, And I told
I would do this this hour time now to find
out what's trending in the wide world of sports.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
From someone who's been called the Jim Nance of Fox
Sports Radio because you can't spell Hello friends.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Without I Loo, Isaac Low and Crown to tell us
what's trending.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
Hello friends. I'm glad you teed me up like that.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
Wow, what a story today, Fred Couple's sixty five years old.
Here's another look at that eagle from earlier today before
we came on the air.
Speaker 6 (26:39):
With the azaleas blooming proudly.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
All of these birds are germane to the area of Augusta.
If we're not doing fake bird noises, they're all birds
that you can find in the Greater Augusta, Atlanta, Georgia area.
Speaker 6 (26:55):
They're also all fake. I know it's true because I
saw it on social media.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
Straight out of The Incredibles, you.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
Know, all fake birds, just like the tracker jackers in
Hunger Games.
Speaker 6 (27:13):
You know, even though Justin Rose has a three shot
lead after shooting a seven under sixty five today Jason
and Mike, the real story was a twenty one year
old Master's rookie named jose Luis Balistair. Because you see,
(27:35):
after the twelfth hole, he found nature calling, and being
a twenty one year old rookie, he forgot that there
was a restroom conveniently located at the thirteenth tee, and
instead he ran down to Raise Creek and relieved himself.
Speaker 3 (27:58):
There. Here is the rookie, in his own words, starting
another tradition unlike any other.
Speaker 7 (28:08):
I completely regod that we have those Russian from the
left of the t bocks. And then I'm like, I
really interpe didn't really know where to go, and since
are on the ving, I'm like, okay, I'm just gonna
sneak here in the river. Probably the people would not
see me that much, and then they caught for me. Yeah,
they saw me in the song. I mean it was
not embarrassing at all from me. So if I had
to do it again, I would do it again.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
Yes, Ballistair putting the P in PG. By the way,
did you guys think I was joking? That actually happened today?
Speaker 1 (28:38):
No?
Speaker 4 (28:39):
No, I know, Yeah, I know, I know he did.
Speaker 1 (28:41):
He said he didn't know there was a bathroom like
right around the corner from where he was, So I
went down to the creek to relieve myself.
Speaker 4 (28:48):
Well, rookie, when you gotta go, you gotta go, man,
when you gotta go, you gotta go.
Speaker 5 (28:52):
That's gonna take away from his concentration and make him,
you know, subpar so literally that hole.
Speaker 3 (28:59):
So yeah, aside from Justin Rose and Freddie Couples, that was,
as it turned out, the other highlight today of the Masters.
He wound up shooting a four to over seventy six,
which is not bad for your first round at the Masters.
We have one NBA game going on right now, the
Minnesota Timberwolves up one twenty two to ninety nine at
Memphis one minute into the fourth quarter, and the story
(29:20):
Anthony Edwards forty four points and thirty one minutes, thirteen
of seventeen from the field, seven out of nine from
three point range. Earlier, the Indiana Pacers held off the
Cavaliers one fourteen to one to twelve, clinching a top
four seed in the East. Detroit's Cad Cunningham scored thirty
six at a one to fifteen to one to oh
six win over the Knicks. Baseball, we are now going
(29:41):
on nearly three hours of that rain delay between the
Phillies and the Braves in Atlanta. They still say they're
going to resume the game. They're in the seventh inning,
tide one point one. I just say called a night
and head to waffle house, baby, because that's the only
place open at this time.
Speaker 4 (29:58):
Back East.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
And finally, in the NHL tonight, the New York Rangers
trounced the New York Islanders nine to two. And it
turns out Mike that in addition to breaking down the
Frozen four for his wife, Jason actually broke down that
Rangers Islanders game for his wife.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
And we have the audio listen.
Speaker 8 (30:18):
Oh wow, the story of the game is one of
the main guys on the Rangers don't know how to
say his name.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
It has like thirty.
Speaker 8 (30:26):
Letters in it. None of them have ows he's playing great,
which is crazy because he got in a full fistfight
in the first minute of the game.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
But hey, as they say in hockey, let's do.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
That hockey, Jason Smith, what I would say, expert back,
let's do that.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
Let's do that hockey. Hey, let's do that hockey thing.
Let's do that hockey. Oh, thank you.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
I appreciate it, my friend h So you know, we'll
have that top bag now.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
We'll have more on that story of relief coming up
a little bit later on in the show.
Speaker 4 (30:59):
But uh, you know, it's kind of funny.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
The last couple of days, my timeline's been flooded with
a take I had from like two years ago, right,
And it's really fun every time when I when I
when I get on social media, I look and I go, Okay,
what is happening here?
Speaker 5 (31:13):
What?
Speaker 1 (31:13):
And And somehow someone went back and found this after
the game last night about what I said about James
Harden when the Clippers got him. I said, worst contract
and free agency. Who the hell were they bidding with
to get James Harden. The guy is done. And of course,
(31:34):
obviously James Harden has played well for the Clippers since that,
and obviously, you know, he had a big night the
other night, and James Harden's played well.
Speaker 5 (31:42):
And I said, who's trying to spur that on? Yes,
it's JJ Reddick. Let me find this.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
Jason Smith thinks he knows so much about basketball, can't
stand the guy. So uh So that's been out there
all of a sudden, Oh you this this blah blah blah.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
I'm like, wow, it's amazing.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
So I want to address it because I did say it,
And yeah, James Harden has been good. Now, to be realistic,
I was only sort of wrong because it's not like
Harden has been great. He's been better than I expected. Right,
it's the top five assists, But James Harden's always been,
you know, at the top the last couple of years
or show.
Speaker 4 (32:15):
Yeah, he's been there, but he's not the same player.
Speaker 1 (32:18):
He is a twenty two and eight guy, right, I mean,
he is far removed from the thirty and twelve guy
that he was in his heyday. He's a twenty two
and eight guy, which is good. I'm not saying it's not,
but he and he's been good, so okay. But the
real lesson I will tell you that I learned from this,
and I've said this many times, is that James Harden
(32:39):
taught me a big lesson about the modern NBA superstar.
That there's a difference between being done and getting to
the point where I'm quitting playing for the team I'm
playing for because I want out so bad, and there's
a difference between just between hey, I just can't do
it anymore and I don't want to play for this team,
(33:00):
so I'm going to continue to tank until I wind
up getting to a new location. Because we have seen
that play out so many ways in the last few years,
and Harden was the guy who's been at the front
of that now for a long time.
Speaker 4 (33:10):
I don't like it here. I want out. It's untenable.
You gotta let me go.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
Whatever team it was, whether it was the Rockets, whether
it was the Nets, right, this is what.
Speaker 4 (33:18):
James Harden does.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
And okay, so now I say, all right now, when
something happens to a player who's in his mid thirties
and it looks like they're done. Let's examine a little
bit more. Are they really done or do they just
not care? And I'm going to tank until I wind
up with a new team. That's the big lesson that
James Harden taught me.
Speaker 5 (33:36):
Twenty two to six this year is highest scoring average
going back to twenty twenty, his first year with Brooklyn.
And then we've watched how it's disintegrated time and again, Hell,
he went halfway around the globe to go and tell
teams he wasn't playing it for him again, So yeah,
it's the complete opposite of quiet quitting. I mean, he
(33:57):
did it on the court and then he's loud.
Speaker 4 (33:59):
That's loud.
Speaker 5 (34:00):
That's now it's the microphone as loudly as he could,
which again that's fine. But the other part is you're
you're still getting paid to do a job. You know,
the the lesson that certainly I try to teach my girls.
You may not be happy in the situation. There may
be a lot of stuff that you don't like going
on and decisions being made. You're still being paid to
(34:21):
do a job, so shut up and do your job.
Speaker 4 (34:23):
Exit, exit out about a fresca exit swollen up?
Speaker 1 (34:27):
Is that a thing is loud quitting a thing like like,
do you just call it loud quitting or you call
it j Harden quitting.
Speaker 4 (34:34):
No, I am hardened quitting like you like you Yeah.
Speaker 5 (34:40):
But the thing is he'd done the quiet quitting on
the court. It's like I'm done.
Speaker 4 (34:44):
I'm done. No, I'm really not. It's like a wrestler.
Speaker 5 (34:47):
Oh he's getting laid out in the middle of the
ring and then the crowd starts. Oh wait, I'm totally
ripping the entire career of Holgogan.
Speaker 4 (34:54):
Exit out.
Speaker 5 (34:55):
But you can't do that, man, He's still a WWE hero. No, see,
they all hate him. So I'm like siding with the
people now. Exit albouta Fresca exit swollen down The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Carmon live from the Tirac dot
Com studios.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
Remember we told you a couple of weeks ago, this
really hot story is gonna blaze like unlike anything you've seen,
and then it's gonna completely disappear. We're at that point
where that story has completely disappeared. What is it that's next?
Jason to Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app Fox.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Carmon Live from the tire Raq dot Com Studios. Now,
we told you a couple of weeks ago about something,
and it's come true. So that's why I said, I
like to say we're ahead of the curve. When the
(36:01):
torpedo bats drama broke in Major League Baseball opening Day,
the Yankees hit one thousand home runs and suddenly it
was this new bat was gonna take baseball by storm,
and suddenly it was gonna be huge. It was such
a big game changer, and everybody's gonna try torpedo bats,
And really the bet was, Okay, well, we're gonna make
(36:22):
the middle of the bat a little bit thicker and
the end of the bat not as thick. Okay, well,
maybe it's gonna work. You still got to hit the ball.
Maybe it's about confidence for some players. We're gonna go
up there and hit. But this is not something that's
gonna change the game forever. It's a big deal. And
what did we say, It was gonna be a big deal,
a hot story for a very short amount of time,
(36:42):
and in a couple of weeks, that story's gonna be over.
And now we're at baseball. You know, we're a couple
of weeks, two and a half, three weeks into the
regular season, and when's the last time we talked about
torpedo bats.
Speaker 4 (36:55):
It's been at least ten days, right.
Speaker 1 (36:57):
This was a this was a this was a week
long story, and it was hot, hot, hot, and then
we said it's gonna go away, because this is kind
of how it goes whenever something comes up like this,
here's a new piece of equipment, here's a new uh strategy.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
Okay, it's hot, and then teams.
Speaker 1 (37:14):
Figure out a way to combat it or it becomes
an accepted way, and the controversy goes away. Right right away,
Baseball said, people can use the torpedo bats. Everybody's gonna
order them. Okay, some people are gonna order the torpedo bats,
and they're gonna be great. And suddenly it's a look
at these stat I feel like the torpedo bat.
Speaker 4 (37:31):
Is doing it all for me. Maybe it is. Maybe
it's also a mental thing that helps you.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
I feel like I have an edge because I'm using
great equipment, right, Okay, I understand that. I get that,
But some people are gonna try torpedo.
Speaker 4 (37:43):
Bats in the Max Munsey and go. I hated those
two at bats. I had it with it. I'm going
away from it.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
So, yeah, some people are gonna hit because the torpedo
bat will help them a little bit, or it will
help them mentally. Others aren't going to hit because it's
not gonna be their thing. They're not gonna go away
from a bat that they used their entire life to
get to where they are. I've used bat shaped one way,
and I've gotten to the major League, so I think
it's gonna be Okay.
Speaker 4 (38:07):
It was going to go away.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
And this is where we're at right now. It's not
even a topic anymore. It's not like people are getting
unfair advantages over torpedo bats. We find out also that
oh yeah, boy, the Yankees are using them, but other
players have sort.
Speaker 4 (38:20):
Of used these.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
It's not completely brand new. Other players have used them. So, Okay,
it was hot for ten days and now it's gone.
Does it mean it's not gonna come back a little bit?
And we'll talk about torpedo bat? But the White hot
aspect of this story. It was going to EBB and
now I mean, really, we don't talk about it anymore.
Like how hot was the show hal Tani Epe story
(38:43):
last year? We said, this is gonna be hot right now,
but eventually it's gonna go away.
Speaker 4 (38:47):
It's so Tani.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
There's no discrepancy with what's going on. It seems pretty straightforward.
The torpedo bats straightforward. Baseball's not betting them, anybody can
use them. Okay, So the initial excitement is gone and
we're moving on.
Speaker 4 (38:59):
We're baseball again. This story is done.
Speaker 5 (39:02):
Yeah, the Tadi story really did disappear very quickly, almost
in record time.
Speaker 4 (39:06):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (39:07):
And then we look at at this we're still tracking it.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
Right.
Speaker 5 (39:10):
There's a Yahoo Sports article that has photos. It's almost
like a photo lineup.
Speaker 4 (39:16):
Like you're watching it.
Speaker 5 (39:18):
Do you want to pick one of these guys out
uh with with their stats and home runs and certainly
on the betting apps. Uh, they put those out there,
you know, kind of a sucker bet of I don't know,
if you really believe in the torpedo bat, you want
to bet this guy to hit one out today? Come on,
come on in. You know those kind of things and
first move or advantage.
Speaker 4 (39:38):
We talked about it.
Speaker 5 (39:39):
Go back to the NFL, Remember the wildcat formation that
didn't last that.
Speaker 1 (39:44):
If you the thing is, if you had a running
back that could actually throw the football, it would have
been a thing. But like Ronnie Brown couldn't really throw
the football. And once seems understood, oh we're in the wildcat,
they're gonna run it all the time. Okay, all right,
I mean it took a little while and like and
the Dolphins were able to run the wildcat better than anybody.
Kind of like how the the Eagles run the tush
(40:05):
push better than anybody. But in the end, teams are
starting to adjust it. What do we see last year
the tush push wasn't as unbeatable as it was two
years ago. Teams are starting to figure it out, you know,
a tiny bit here, But that's kind of just how
things like this go.
Speaker 5 (40:18):
Yeah, I mean, look, Walter Payton through eight eight touchdown
passes in his career. He would have been a hell
of a wildcat thrower in those years because he actually
had some accuracy and distance down the road. But it's
just that. But guys are superstitious. Guys have been taking
how many at bats, thousands and thousands of at bats,
thousands of reps in the cages. That suddenly is like,
(40:41):
all right, let's change up my routine, Let's change up
how this feel and the grip and everything else. Like
unless you're on, you know, in those desperate straits, if
I really need to change things up, You're you're not
gonna do that. Guy's pride gets in the way and
the mental aspect of the yay it is way too
(41:01):
heavy a weight.
Speaker 4 (41:03):
Exit out about a Fresco exit swollen dome.
Speaker 1 (41:05):
Jason Smith Mike Harmon live from the tyrech dot com studios.
Speaker 4 (41:08):
The torpedo bat controversy of twenty twenty five is over coming.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
Up next, a sports story from today that everyone can
relate to.
Speaker 4 (41:17):
Jason and Mike fuck
