Al Right, it is a Tuesday. Ronnie James introduced Ian
Dalton connects the newest Lakers. I don't know what the
ratio was, but I would think questions. At some point
Ronnie had to say, like, does somebody want to ask
Dalton some questions? Just like Katon Clark, Boston.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
Yeah, That's exactly what I was wondering.

Iowa. Sam is here on a Tuesday. Hello Sam, Hello, Hie.
All right, not too enthusiastic.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
Seriously, we apologize inconvenient.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Yeah, let's get Strauss back. Let's Jason Stewart present. Hello everybody,
Uh and Isaac low and Cross America. What's Happened with Chicken?
Says the Keith Jackson impersonation the best. When I say
(01:25):
Keith Jackson, Montie, I know you're young, but you know
who we're talking about. Okay, Keith Jackson, legendary college announcer
for years upon years, just one of the absolute legends
of the sport. Keith or Keith Keith, not the candy.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
Bar okay, okay, got it, and not.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
The tight end who played in the NFL that it
was also Keith Jackson. But my favorite is Jason Stewart,
sticking to the bit of his famous call. Now you
hear Isaac to the Keith jack Can you do your
Keith Jackson? Will Nelly call?
Speaker 5 (02:06):
Whoa?
Speaker 1 (02:07):
I'll tell you what. We got some Division III Triple
A community college football this week. That's pretty good. Now
let's do Jason Stewart's.
Speaker 6 (02:15):
Matchup between the cow and Alma Mater and Washington Nelly.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Jason says it old Nelly like, oh yes, but I
love it. I think it's great. The best story I
ever heard was our buddy Jeffrey Gorman, who used to
host with his cousin Steve in this time Slader Fox
Sports Radio when Keith Jackson and I feel like Isaac
and maybe I was Sam will be the only ones
(02:46):
to truly appreciate this. But when Keith Jackson would throw
down to Jack A Root, remember with those big headphones,
Remember the Jack Root war on the sideline. Yes, no, no,
Jacker Root. And I think Jeffrey thought like that was
just like one name, like Beyonce or I think that's
(03:06):
what it was, or it was like jacka Root, but
he didn't realize that it was all like his whole name,
that his name was Jack space a route. Jack now
down to Jacker Root. That's great. Jamarquy, Yeah, fair the same.
This great great times. We love looking back, and today
(03:28):
gives us an opportunity to look back at the first
half of twenty twenty four. And the reason we are
doing this is we are trying to right or wrong
from twenty twenty three. And the wrong was done by
Sports Illustrated when they named Dion Sanders the sports Person
(03:48):
of the Year for twenty twenty four. And the reason
being why that became wrong And it wasn't that Dion
didn't do any good at Colorado, and it wasn't that
he wasn't the topic a conversation. This is how I
envisioned things to happen. At some point in late August
and early September, Sports Illustrated starts planning, Hey, we got
to do our sports Person of the Year. Let's look
(04:10):
back at some nominees. There was no one whose name
was hotter than Dion Sanders, and you unveil this in
early December, So really the nomination process probably ended at
what sometime in maybe October, because you got to do
a piece on it, you got to get a photo shoot,
you got to do the whole deal. But there were
many other nominees that had better years than Dion Sanders,
(04:34):
and especially as this team was not heading to a
bowl game and all of the momentum that you had
from September was really no longer there in December when he.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
Was given the Sports Person of the Year.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
Yes, it just seemed like it was off base. So
what this allows us to do is to kind of
help Sports Illustrated and maybe others along. We're at the
halfway point. Some of the hay is already in the barn.
The names that we will mention as nominees I think
should be legitimate contenders for the award. Now, will they
(05:09):
continue throughout twenty twenty four when it's finally announced, will
they tail off? Who knows, But at least now we
can say this is a starting point because at this
point last year, the only thing we knew about Deon
Sanders was that he was telling players to leave if
they didn't want to be there, and if he didn't
want them there, that they were going to leave because
they hadn't played any games, they had an upset TCU,
(05:30):
they had none of that. This is why it is
important to it time and again do a check mark
or check in. So we're going to determine who we
think the Sports Person of the Year is for the
first half of twenty twenty four. Will take your thoughts
like we did on some of the some of the
players earlier. If you want eight seven to seven nine
nine on Fox, that's eight seven to seven nin nine
(05:52):
to six sixty three sixty nine, or hit us up
on Twitter at Dan Byron Fox, at Manzi Blanos. If
there was one person anybody want to hands, show of hands,
who wants to get their name in first? You know what?
Speaker 4 (06:03):
Oh, Isaac sat Dibbs.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Yeah, one nominee. We are not doing the name four
people and take it away from three other people so
they have nothing to say. It is my biggest pet
peeve when people can't decide for their own selves so
then they ruin it for everyone else. And I'm not
saying you do that, Isaac. I am just laying out
the laws due four teams here that I think could
(06:27):
win at all. Then what are we gonna say? All right,
your one nominee Sportsperson of the year first half of time.
Speaker 7 (06:34):
I hate to say this because it's about their performance
on the field, but also culturally.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
I hate to say it, but Travis Kelcey Okay, aw interesting,
he was a nominee that I had written down. Okay,
I'm going to just put Isaac by that one. I
actually think that's a pretty good nominee. Super Bowl Champion
continues to be in the headlines with his relationship with
(07:00):
Taylor Swift, and he actually has a season to add
more to that resume. Yeah, Manzi, do you have a name?
Speaker 4 (07:07):
All right?
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Well, I think there's a couple out there, right, are
we going to give one? But it's one a with
a really small one be connected to it, all right?
Speaker 4 (07:16):
I think the spokesperson of the year so.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Far is Sho heeo Tawny with everything that he has
done for the Dodgers, literally leading in every category, moved
to the leadoff spot, still kicking, but his first year
twenty miles down the road from Anaheim. And then my
my one bee is the Dodgers bad boy just caught
(07:39):
that line drive.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
Did you see that video?
Speaker 1 (07:41):
I did?
Speaker 2 (07:42):
That just saved Shoo Tani's face, that that boy was amazing.
Javier Herrera, okay, Hededa.
Speaker 6 (07:50):
No, no, we could we not call him about boy.
He's very much about man, right, he has a yes
about adults.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Yes, he's either amazing context amazing reflexes. And if it
was he's a batmanaman. And if you wanted to hot
that ball show, hey, o Tani may not be in
full attack right now, so I wouldn't be able to
nominate him.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
See well done, thank you. She's very good. Nominees together
halfway Points sports Person of the Year. I got one
Iowa Sam.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
I wonder who Iowa Sam's gonna pick.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
Low hanging fruit for me? Do you want the reasoning
or just a yes? Yes the reasoning. It's a woman. No,
she played at the University of Iowa. No, basketball.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
Her name is Caitlyn Clark. If you've been living under
a pebble for the last I don't know, two years,
but it's.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
She doesn't even you know. She didn't win a title.
She got there twice the title game. This amount of
it's the amount of attention that she's brought.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Who's her name must be the most googled name in
the last six months, Like she's spent on every talk show,
not personally, but talked about on every sports talk radio show.
Her name has been brought up constantly. She's literally made
money for her new league, brought more eyes, more butts,
and seats. Ticket sales have improved. So for me, it's
(09:10):
an easy one. It's low hanging fruit. It's Kaitlyn Clark.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
Yeah, I almost took it from you.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
If you would have done it, that'd be fine. I
would have just seconded that. I would have endorsed you RT.
That would have been really good radio. I agree, I
agree with what he said.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
I agree not that we fake arguments here, but I'm
glad that you guys at least were I'm glad Manzi
showed restraints. He is an easy one, and I think
as I see Katelyn Clark right now on a Gatorade commercial.
That's right, Jason Sewart, is there a nominee that you
have for sports Person of the Year.
Speaker 6 (09:39):
I know this breaks the rules a little bit, but
I need to I need to co sign on the
Kaitlyn Clark thing. I think this is like head and
shoulders above.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (09:47):
For my personal reason, I've been watching women's basketball for
the first time in my life. That's no exaggeration. I'm
watching women's basketball and it's because of one person. And
I'm not gonna get into the Angel Reyes thing or
it's Kitlin'clark and that's it. And I think that's probably
the reason why she should win a Sportsperson of the
(10:08):
Year at the end of the year. I think she's
been the transcendent force. She's been an example the Tiger
Woods of college basketball. I mean, it's a it's amazing,
but I'm gonna go but something that's a notch down.
But it just checks a box here because I can't
pick Caitlin Clark. And I'm just gonna say Danny Hurley
good wins back to back titles at Yukon and then
(10:30):
teases the Lakers and doesn't take the job and kind
of goes back to college. I thought that was a
pretty ballsy of him. Danny Hurley is my suggestion.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
I also think because of the situation them going back
to back. Now you've got a guy like Cooper Flagg
who's going to be coming in and playing for Duke.
That's gonna grab a lot of headlines. But it also
makes yukon that must see program that we're gonna watch
in November and December. And while he's already won his title,
you could have some that carry through this said, I
(11:02):
mean a list of names. Danny Hurley was on the mask.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
That's a good one.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Jase is one of the nine names that I listed.
I won't give you the other the other five that
I have, I'll give you one of the five. And
of course, if if it wasn't for an arrest on
a Friday morning, Scotty Scheffler may have two majors in
his back pocket. And what has already been a completely
(11:30):
dominant year on the PGA Tour fifteen events, six wins,
two runner ups, is finished in the top twenty five
and fourteen of those fifteen events.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
Yeah, that sounds like domination.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
Yes, And so while we don't want it. We got
to tread very carefully in the Gulf world when you
are comparing someone to Tiger Woods. These numbers that he's
putting up are comparable to some of Tiger's most dominant times,
and then you have these wins to back it up.
Has made twenty seven point six million dollars so far.
(12:04):
Elevated events purses are a little bit higher. But again,
if he played well the day that he was arrested,
I think everything just caught up with him the next
day and kind of ran out of gas. But if
that incident doesn't happen, and again his own fault I
said it here. He should have stopped when the cops
said don't go anywhere. Whether he thought he was a
copp or wasn't, I felt he brought it on himself.
(12:25):
But if that incident doesn't happen, there's a decent chance
that he's challenging Bryson to Shambo and then the Ultimate
Winners winner Xander Schoffley for the PGA Championship that week
in Kentucky, and he would have two of the three majors,
with the Open Championship coming up in a couple weeks. Dan,
what major brand is he is he a Nike guy? Nike? Yep,
he is.
Speaker 6 (12:43):
Okay, so how about this for Nike commercial. Scotty Scheffler
doesn't stop?
Speaker 4 (12:53):
I mean I like it.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
Actually, yeah, well even if you tell him to, I think,
just do it.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
We'll just be fine. I think that's that's that's good enough.
We want to know your thoughts on who are sports?
I think we have a pretty good sampling. Yeah, right now,
I do have a couple of other names.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
You know, honorable mentions.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Let's go, yes, but we want to hear from you.
Eight seven seven nine six six three six nine. It's
eight seven seven nine nine on Fox. And you can
always reach out on social media at Manzy Milanios is
where you can get Manzi at Dan Byer on Fox
is where you can find me and h Ia Sam
ninety nine at Jason Stewart and Isaac glowoncron is where
you can find the rest of the crew. All Right,
(13:36):
we're gonna we're gonna settle by the end of the
show on who is our Sportsperson of the Year. For
the first half, we'll take more nominees.
Speaker 5 (13:44):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot Com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
This is it, this is my jam.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Rhythm is a dancer, Moncey Belanos, I'm Dan Byer. It's
coming on Red Cheer on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
I just feel like we should be like doing some
some steps, like doing some exercises Spero.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
Yeah, Isaac Low and Cron while Moncy is dancing, we
are tasking you with finding Keith Jackson throwing it down
to Jacker roots. Okay, that's what we want a challenge.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
They just ask Isaick.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
By the way, this is I know that they're there.
There may be college football fans that are just amazed
that Monci doesn't know who Keith Jackson is, but realize
she is not alone. There's probably a whole generation that
has no clue about the greatness of Keith Jackson or
just him throwing down to jackeroot and at times, you
know what, he threw the Linn swan a lot, you know,
(14:52):
like later in the next way. Yeah, yes, but there
is there is greatness. And by the way, there were
decades and decades of football before I was born that
Keith Jackson was doing that I ended up learning about
so it can be a learning process for everyone. We
are also trying to learn and figure out who are
sports Person of the Year for the first half of
(15:13):
twenty twenty four. Is the candidates that we've laid out
so far, and we'd love to hear from you on yours.
There are five Iowa, Sam and Caitlin Clark, and I
feel like right now that's probably the answer. Yes of
the front runner that is that is correct? Mansi said,
show he Otani for his greatness on the field and
(15:33):
the story that he was not only with the gambling,
but just yeah, going to the Dodgers, from the Angels,
everything that comes up and up.
Speaker 4 (15:41):
To the expectation.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
Thank you, Christopher Sart and living up to the expectation.
And also the batman that caught.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
That ball in the dugout.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
Remember yes, he goes with it because then show Hey
would not be here today.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
What about the actual interpreter.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Oh yeah, will his face in that video? Did you
see his face?
Speaker 1 (16:00):
He looked So I met this old one, that one
Travis Kelcey.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
That's good.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
Super Bowl champion living life with his his girlfriend Taylor Swift.
Now in Europe, where Mike Harmon was taking in the
concert in Dublin earlier this week. Jason had a really
good one, and I know you wanted to say Caitlin
Clark like you, but mentioned Dan Hurley. No, that's a
good one, very good one, I said Scottie Scheffler, which
is a good one as well. Evans Evans in LA
(16:32):
with a nomination. Evan, Welcome to Cavino and rich Im.
Speaker 5 (16:37):
So glad to talk to you guys.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
I enjoy your show every day when I'm at work.
Thank you, Thanks for making us a part of your day.
What do you got all right? I was gonna say
Alex Perea, the UC light heavyweight champion.
Speaker 5 (16:48):
Yeah, he saved two.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
Big US events USC three three h three and there's
talks to him going up the heavyweight so he could
possibly win the third championship. So they're still they're still
great andess that could be on board for it.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
Oh yeah, yes.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
And he's been knocking people out with style too, just
taking their heads off.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
So true.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
And if you bring up UFC with anyone, that is
the name that they want.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
To talk about. That's the guy. Unbelievable. I feel if
Cavino or Rich were here, it would be like yes, no,
but absolutely.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
Literally they would be on board. And I understand he
is the guy you're talking about if you talk about
UFC right now?
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Great? Right, great nomination. Van appreciate it, man, enjoy work
as much as you can. Mason's in Green Bay. Mason,
what do you got Hey.
Speaker 8 (17:38):
Guys, thanks for taking my call.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (17:41):
I think Doug god Leaves the sports person of the Year.
I mean, how many people could go from doing national
radio to being the head coach at a major basketball program.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
Oh, Mason, I disagree with you.
Speaker 7 (17:54):
I think Jason Stewart is the sports person of the year.
Speaker 8 (17:58):
Wait, what are you talking about?
Speaker 1 (18:00):
Never mind, you probably don't know him. Oh man, thanks
for taking my call. Thanks Thanks as Mason. By the way,
I knew it wasn't a real Mason when he didn't
sound under thirty years old.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
So right, Mason's really excited for Phoenix basketball. Yeah, he's
like Doug, I'm so old. Yeah, yeah, Doug a nominee?
Speaker 1 (18:26):
Why not? Absolutely? Go ahead. It reminds me of the
time when I Frank called when Danny g was saying
that he and his brother started the Reggie Jackson chant
and so I called up, pretending to be someone else,
saying that my uncle started it. Oh Danny got so
worked up over it. He was like, no, that was me,
(18:50):
my brother. They wrote into the paper good times, good times. Uh,
we've got some news in the w NBA and a
point that Mason or Jason Stewart may want to present.
Let's go over to the news desk though eisag glow
on cron is here to give us the latest of
what is happening on this Tuesday. How's the Jack Root
(19:12):
search going? You ready? What do you want to do?
You wanted to do? You want to do that? Do
that at the end? Yes, okay, let's save it to
the end. That's a tease if Mason and Greens. But
just to just to reveal the curtain a little bit.
We were trying in the previous commercial break, Sam was
(19:32):
we were searching our system. Sam's like, maybe let's go
to YouTube, and I love the effort. Let's try to
find something that it wasn't in our system. I thought
we had a Keith Jackson throw to jack a root,
but again it wouldn't have been as noteworthy. I just
thought that I put it into the system at one time,
so Sam clicks on best of Keith Jackson, and I
thought about it, like the guy covered college football for
(19:54):
like fifty years. Do you think someone would actually just
put a throw down to the sideline reporter or or
would it be you know, Vince Young running further touchdown
in the Rose Bowl or Cordell Stewart's Hail Mary to
Be in Michigan.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
I don't know, Dan, if you really know the career
of Keith and you'd probably throw a Jackie Row in there.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
Oh, we'll see how great it is. That's a detract
And now let's remember the way it was.
Speaker 7 (20:17):
We take you back to nineteen ninety one old Veteran
Stadium in Philadelphia and the Army Navy game with Keith
Jackson and Jack a Root on hand CFA college football
here on ABC Sports, the Army Cadets in.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
The Navy Midshipman. We're ready to go with the story
about the historic moment this week, Jack a Root to
fill us in on them.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
Keith, as you said, never before in the history of
this matchup, if the machine steal the Army, let all.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
Like one name, like, yes, it does not sound like
Jack a Root.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Yeah, Like like something that you'd have in like some
some fancy tee, like a kind of root.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
Yeah, jacket root, yes, Jacker root cinnamon. You know you're
a mamatee and Jacker root.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
I don't know who this man is. I was definitely
two years ago.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
I want to give you guys a great Jacke Root
story in addition to this perfect because you talk about
certain moments in your life and your career that stick
with you and that you'll always be grateful for. Jacke
Root was in town when I was working in Madison,
Wisconsin for a Badger of football game, and he was
(21:39):
working for ESPN Radio doing their weekend show that he
would have. So he did the sidelines during the afternoon
for the game and then needed a studio in our
building to do a show at night, so they would
put him up in a in a studio and he,
you know, came to the building and was up and
(22:00):
I was there doing postgame stuff, doing my postgame duties,
and it was probably about ten thirty at night, and
I just peeked my head into a studio because he
was in a different studio that they set him up in,
and I just said, would you mind if I sat
in on your show? Because you do that like when
you're young, you're trying to make headway in the business.
You could easily have said no, You could have said
(22:22):
yes and not talk to me, but he said yeah,
sure coming in, welcomed me in. I saw the behind
the scenes stuff of him talking to his producer. All
of this was completely foreign to me before I came
to Fox Sports Radio. But here Jack Root was doing
his national radio show, and it was a really big
deal to me. I've seen Jack Root on TV and
I aired him on the radio, and now here he
(22:43):
is and he's letting me know sit in on this
And I had never spoken with Jacke Root since, but
that night I sat in on his radio show and
it was awesome and it is one of the biggest
It's one of the things that I will remember most
about my career. That have been very fortunate to now
be at Fox Sports Radio for nineteen years, but to
(23:05):
go back then and to see what it was like
and to see somebody do what he was doing was
just it was awesome. So good to know that Jack A.
Root was not jacka rude, no Jack something else. It was.
It was Jack Awesome. That's what That's what he was.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
Jack Austen.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
That's what he was. We are going to settle our
nominees for sports Person of the Year. We'll take one
more nominee and then we're going to get to this
story that we have to talk about because no one
is talking about it. Matt and Fresno, Welcome to Cavino
and Rich. What's up man, Hey guys, first time, long time.
Speaker 8 (23:44):
I was going to nominate Frank Ventral.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
I know where you're going. I know exactly where you're going.
Speaker 8 (23:50):
Hit the back to back.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
Yeah, it's an amazing accomplishment. I don't know if it's
going to carry the entire year, you know, for Sportsperson
of the Year. But to go back to back aces
because not all golf courses, very few golf courses, let
me say that, have back to back par threes. Then
to be able to aceit and do it so in
a major like a US Senior Open, absolutely amazing. I
(24:13):
don't think he even made the cut, but yeah, no, yeah,
great accomplishment, Matt, Thanks so much for the for the call.
Angel Reese was named the WNBA's Rookie of the Month today. Okay, okay,
another double double, consecutive double double after consecutive double double.
It is not stopping for Angel Reese. Why are we
(24:34):
not talking about the Angel Reese.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
Hmmm, I think I think it's a loaded question.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
Because she watching a lot of w NBA players, which
has been the reason over the years that they're just
the play is a little bit boring and it's a
little bit you know, it's very technical, and that is
why Caitlin Clark has been such a lightning in a
bottle because she is shooting logo threes. I really think
(25:07):
it's the same reason why the WNBA had not had
as much attention as just she's doing layups, she's grabbing rebounds,
she's doing all of the technical stuff.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
But it's not flashy, yes, and it's not two people
who made women's basketball in college basketball. What it is
for as awesome as her accomplishments accomplishments have been over
the past ten games, where she broke Candice Parker streak
of consecutive double dolls and doing it in the first
half of the season, we're not talking about it, and
(25:40):
so like the point of it gathering to mainstream media,
it's just I'm sorry it it doesn't And the reason
Angel Reich became a part of the story. And that's
not to say that she can't be one of the
best players in the WNBA and a great player and
a player year after year after year. But they're some
people that move the needle and there are others that don't.
(26:04):
And the reason Angel Reese moved the needle on the
national scope was because of how she treated the person
who moves the needle. And so here Angel Reese is
doing this on her own and doing with her team,
but having her own accolades that has nothing to do
with Caitlyn Clark, and we aren't talking about it. That's
(26:24):
a pretty good Like I thought it was a joke
when ESPN earlier in the year were like double double
in every game and it was three games and it
was thirteen points and ten rebounds like it was, you know,
But now twenty five and sixteen, she had an eighteen
rebound game. Yeah, eighteen and eleven the other night, Like
those are legitimate numbers. But I think it goes to
(26:45):
the point that Jason Stewart has been trying to make
is again of what you want to see, Like these
numbers are great and all, but it's Caitlin Clark that
moves the needle. Am I putting words in your mouth?
Jason Stewart, Is that exactly what you're saying? Or am
I missing something on this?
Speaker 6 (26:58):
No, that's exactly what my is. And I wish I
knew the creator of this, but somebody on X last
night had the perfect tweet. It was a collection of
Angel Reese's highlights. And her highlights are a lot of
just like in the post physical like grabbing her own rebound,
putting it up in the bodies all over the floor.
(27:20):
It's there's nothing like, I don't know, there's nothing. What's
what's the word that I'm looking for something that looks
enjoyable to watch or pretty or anything. It's kind of like, yeah,
I don't know if anyone tunes into basketball to see
like hard nose post play. And I think that's where
she gets most of her stats. And I think that
(27:41):
the WNBA has seen a lot of players like her.
If I'm not mistaken, I'm guessing this. I've been told this,
and Caitlin Kark is just a unicorn in that regard. Yeah, yeah, Lake, No,
go ahead.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
I also think the fact that her overall stat line,
like when you look that she took fifteen shots and
made four of them. It doesn't help her when they
lose the Chicago Sky it doesn't help.
Speaker 4 (28:03):
But people aren't paying attention. Angel Reese is causing a conversation.
It's just not as big as Kaitlyn Clark. And yes,
Jesus Stewart.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
Asia Wilson does she battles in the post left.
Speaker 4 (28:14):
And right, you know, like we have seen that before.
We haven't seen Kaitlin Clark.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
And to Jason's point, he wanted to see the Caitlin
Clark that we saw in college. And that's why Caitlyn Clark.
Like the Angel Reese portion of it is, Angel Reese
was trying to claim that she was a reason. But
Angel Reese wasn't in the game on Fox when she's
you know, was setting records and saying goodbye to the
(28:41):
home fans. Wasn't on the game in Peacock when she
set the scoring record. Wasn't playing in the final four
game against Yukon, wasn't playing in that National Championship. They
did play in the Elite, and they played in the
National Championship in the year before, but all of those
other games that were there, people were tuning in to
see what Caitlin Clark was doing. It's in a way
(29:01):
it kind of stinks for Angel Reese because there's the
reality of now my play is backing up my talk
and who I am, but also it's representative of what
the reality is because people aren't necessarily paying attention. I
think that they made up stuff with Caitlin Clark and
some of the records and the Pete Marovitch one to
(29:23):
try to extend the story. Like I get that, like
some of that was fake. I think that this is
a legitimate mark, especially for someone who is early in
their career. But the problem is is that it's not
generating the waves and the excitement. And I think that's
the answer that maybe Angel Reese refuses to recognize. It's
(29:45):
tough because you put in all this work and you
want as much of the spotlight. But she became more
of the attention getter because of what she did to
the person who was getting attention than for anything that
she actually did productive on the floor.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
I agree, but I do think she is bringing up
to the game. I don't think it's in comparison to
Kitlyn Clark, but I do think she has a fan
base and I do think she's bringing eyes to the game.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
It's just not to.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
The extent that Kaitlyn Clark is. Yeah, and it's a
good thing. It's still a good thing. You know, people
out there still want to watch angel rees. And she
is already breaking records as a rookie with these double doubles,
which is pretty crazy.
Speaker 4 (30:23):
Even if she is missing her own shot. Somebody asked
to get the ball, She's getting it.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
She's going for eleven straight tonight as they play in
the Fever take on the the Aces. By the way,
my lasting memory, we were talking about sports person of
the first half of the year, and we will settle that.
My favorite highlight of the w NBA season now is
Becky Hammond yelling at all of us about liking Kitlyn Clark,
(30:48):
Like the more removed from it, the more entertaining that
I that I find it, and just I just like
it's it's great. Literally, her yelling at the reporters and
us about how they all like Kitlyn Clark. Yeah, when
they really didn't. But hey, that's a completely other story.
Just continue to yell at us. She's Monty Blagos, I'm
Dan Byer in for Cavino and Rich here on Fox
(31:08):
Sports Radio. Hit her up at Monti Bolangnos. You can
find me at Dan Byer on Fox All right, we
give you our three two ones and who should be
the sports Person of the Year and even a few
nominees we left out that's next year on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
Cavino and Rich here on Fox Sports Radio. She's Monty Blagos,
I'm Dan Byer big thanks to Isaac Low and Cron
who hung out provided us with the Jackerroot Keith Jackson.
He sure did the throw, see what I mean, Jack Roots?
Oh yeah, ah yes, thanks to Jeffrey Gorman for passing
that one along years ago. She is Monty Blagos. I'm
Dan Byer in for Kivino and Rich, who are in
(31:54):
for Dan Patrick on Fox Sports Radio. In fact, the
guys will be in tomorrow and on the fourth of
July and Dependence Day they'll be in, So check those
guys out if you miss them. But Monty and I
hanging out today. Jason Stewart Iowa Sam are here as
we settle our sports Person of the Year for the
first half of twenty twenty four. This to avoid the
debacle of naming Dion Sanders the sports Person of the
(32:16):
Year when he had three good weeks in September, Like
that's what it was last year for Sports Illustrated. So
we're trying to do their work for them. We're at
the midway point of the year. Let's find out who
is worthy of having that title. Over these past six months,
and we've had some really good nominees. Shoyotani was from
Moncey Sam and Caitlin Clark. Isaac mentioned Travis Kelcey, Jason
(32:40):
provided Dan Hurley, I said, Scottie Scheffler, Alex Perea Perea, Yeah, yeah,
tried to as many ours.
Speaker 4 (32:47):
No, it's a hard one.
Speaker 1 (32:48):
That's a hard one from the UFC. Was a good nomination.
There are a couple of others out there as well.
Speaker 6 (32:55):
What about Mason in Green Bay?
Speaker 1 (32:58):
Doun gotway, Yeah, from Mason and Green Bay as well.
It was a great, great nominee. Sounded a lot like
Jason Stewart really did. That's why it was Mason. It
didn't dawn on me. Mason and Jason. That's what it was,
That's what it was, Mason, Jason.
Speaker 4 (33:18):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
It took a while. You have another nominee, yeah.
Speaker 4 (33:25):
Jim Harbaugh. Jim Harbor, I think would be a good one.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
It's really good one.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
Yeah, to throw out there with what he did at Michigan.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
Drama she did. Yeah, reward a guy who video opponent,
I you.
Speaker 4 (33:40):
Know, I him and Tony What can I say? I
like the drama.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
The sports Person of the Year should be the fans who,
for some reason just overlook this and don't think it's
a big deal. I mean, like they had someone dress
up as an opposed as a coach of a team
that's not even theirs, and stand on the sidelines to
get the signals of their opponent, Like, how is this
all right? It is? It is still gotta beat him
(34:05):
on the field. Dan, Well, it's kind of hard when
they know all your plays and they know all your signals,
it's kind of difficult.
Speaker 4 (34:13):
What does that guy's name against.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
Schlosnagel, that guy he should be on there, sportsperson.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
Yeah, probably not getting many votes from the age group.
Connor stallions, Yes, he can accept the award on Jim
Harbaugh's behalf, but I like Harbaugh, and I think he'll
win in the NFL. I think he'll win with the Chargers,
And obviously was a story during the hiring cycle the
National Championship, obviously, but I don't know if we're going
(34:44):
to reward cheaters here. I mean, come on, guys, you
guys had another one that you brought up at least
or was there a caller? Did you have another one?
Iowa Sam says no, Jason Stewart, You're gonna shake your head.
Speaker 6 (34:59):
I mean, I was thinking as kind of a throwaway
as maybe Jason Tatum, but that's not really No one
really cares about that guy, right.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
I was in the studio five minutes ago and both
of them said, Caleb Williams. Caleb Williams, Yeah, yeah, setting
you guys up for somebody to take Caleb Williams to
slam dunket. Iowa Sam even had a merchandise stat yeah
about it. I totally forgot that, I was Sam anybody Nope, nope,
I'm good Dan.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
I totally just forgot, But yes, he I think that. So,
you know, Kayln Clark sold a bunch of merchandise when
she was drafted by the Fever and then like the
next day or whatever it was, like Dan whatever that
was the NFL Draft. He smashes that record with his
own merchandise sales for the Bears.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
Number one overall pick was the conversation, and honestly does
have an opportunity too to add to his resume for
the next you know, second half of the year. So
there's there's I'll give you. I think Tatum was good.
I had I had Jalen Brown as well. And I'll
(36:03):
just say this, if we are going to say Travis
Kelce for the reasons, you do have to mention Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 4 (36:09):
Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 1 (36:09):
I mean, and I know it was only a month,
but even their playoff run of going to Buffalo, going
to Baltimore and then going and winning the Super Bowl
like they did scoring, I think Patrick Mahomes is a
worthy nominee.
Speaker 6 (36:23):
And doesn't that performance with the tuxedo on stage with
tailors does not take a little away from his.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
It was hard to watch. It really was hard for watching. Well,
let's let's find out. I think we're in agreement on
who should be number one, so let's figure out three
and two. Who should be number three of our nominees.
I honestly think Scotty Scheffler's dominance in golf may not
be worthy of a top two, but he has been
(36:51):
so good one of Master's I think Scotty Scheffler should
be in the conversation.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
I don't disagree, especially because he his wife pregnant, and like,
is he gonna leaves?
Speaker 1 (37:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (37:03):
Right, and you got arrested. No, there's a lot to it.
So I'm good with Scotti Scheffler at three.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
Okay, it doesn't stop, all right, Scottie chef right if
Caitlin Clark is number one, obviously, I think it's it's Hurley,
Kelsey or Tom.
Speaker 4 (37:17):
I'm gonna say I like my pick, but I like
Dan Hurley. I'm gonna Saydan.
Speaker 1 (37:21):
Hurleyly, that's Jason's pick. You with Dan Hurley, I'm good
with Dan Hurley as well. Plus Yukon will be a
story coming up in the fall. But Caitlin Clark right
now our sports person of the Year for the first
half of twenty twenty four. She's Monzi, I'm Dan yep,
thanks for hanging on Caldo and Rich I'm Fox heye.
