Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Yo, what's up, Buds, Cavino and rich In for our
bro Colley Cowherd right here on the Hurd. He makes
a great point too, you can't solve ignorant, so we
lean into it.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
D world Wide thinks of nonsense.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Collins big point about Aaron Rodgers making sense in LA.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
I'm gonna back.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Him up on that and I'll tell you why. But first,
let me remind you that we're gonna be playing a
game where we need contestants. Yes, it's called quote me.
It's one of our newest games. Every day we play
a game right giveaway prizes, basically bribing listeners.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
That's what we do. Hey, we want you to like our.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Show, and if you don't, at least you like the
fact that you get some free swag right CNR on FSR,
we got Swiggy's stainless steel water bottles. They're really nice.
No cheap bows, no weak ass giveaways. We actually got
quality giveaways for you. So if you want to play again,
quote me. It's multiple choice, it's easy and hopefully you'll win.
(01:24):
Eight seven seven to nine eight seven seven four the Herd.
Ah yes, eight seven seven four the Herd Collins number.
And it has to do with all the.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
You know, all the crazy takes in the world of sports.
Who said it. We'll get to that again.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Eight seven seven for the Herd if you want in,
if you want to win a prize, and later this
hour weekend hobnobbing what you need to watch in all
of the sports and entertainment. We do it every Friday.
I'm so pumped for this weekend. So we're gonna get
you ready for the weekend like we always do. Again
Covino and Rich. Danny G just whispered in my ear,
say it numerically, eight seven seven four. Do you think
(01:56):
I know what the Herd numbers are?
Speaker 4 (01:59):
Danny G?
Speaker 3 (02:00):
You're you just like you ever see that meme of
the guy who's looking up at it just a bunch
of calculations.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Oh well, it's the first thing listed there eight seven
seven four eight four thirty four thirty seven. One More
Time eight seven seven four eight four thirty four thirty seven.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
Dady, that was That was a pop quiz. I was
gonna fail on me, shre. If you want to play,
that's the number and you can win a press.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
The equivalent to you being a huge hockey fan.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
Dude, Yeah huge, now yeah, one night, I'm all in.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
So what Colin said in that promo, and you know
we've touched on Aaron Rodgers. Do the Rams make a
lot of sense based on if they move on from
Matthew Stafford. You know they're moving on from a Cooper Cup,
but they still have pookin the kupa Kyen Williams they
got they got there looking for.
Speaker 4 (02:45):
A one year guy, two year guy. Then it makes
absolute sense.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
There's other guys looking for home DeVante Adams, who knows
where demo ends up. So it's not like the Rams
are calling her today. They were one play away, as
Matthew Stafford's wife pointed out, Yeah, they were one play
away from a cup, like you said, But Pooka's a
that's his chance to pick up some great leadership and
really step up as a player, but I.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Wanted to give another layer to it.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
When we talked about what Aaron Rodgers was looking for,
and he said a to be wanted.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
Which, as we pointed out, it's a no brainer.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
But in a relationship at a job anywhere, you don't
want to feel like someone's doing you a charity work.
You want to genuinely feel like the woman you're with
desires you. The job you're at, values your work. You
know your family members appreciate what you give back to
the family.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
Like no one wants to be taken for granted. So
I like that.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
I like how he wants to be surrounded by winners,
because who wants to be Who wants to end their
career with a bunch of hell.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
No one.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
But the third point was an interesting one. And I
wouldn't mind the warm weather.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
And this this hit. That's like the fat ass. I
want somebody fat ass.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
You know, if you could throw in a you know,
a nice booty down with that, that's the nice booty. However,
the last days we were in Philadelphia doing that event
with the Eagles and Dallas Goddard and now we're in
New Jersey and I'm looking out Covino's family's houses window
right now, there's like snow on the ground.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
And Aaron Rodgers and I we're around the same age.
You hit forty.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
I don't care what you say. I get when people
say I like the seasons. Of course, you like a
little fall, changing of the leaves. You like Oh spring, Oh,
baseball's here.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Make it clear we live in La now or here visiting.
I barely miss my family, let alone the seasons. I
miss pizza more than I miss the season. Well, listen,
I always tell people when you know, because it's a
common question. Ranch you live in LA, you're from New York,
what do you miss?
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Dear?
Speaker 3 (04:40):
And I say, listen, I'll be honest. I missed my
family and food. New York has better food, and I
missed the vibe of the people. East Coast people. I
like their honesty, I like their how they act. You
and Rodgers may be around the same age, but you're
not in the same income bracket.
Speaker 4 (04:53):
No, that's true.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
So whatever hassles and hops he has to deal with
when it comes to cold weather and snow.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
You think he's out there shoveling it.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
No, No, I'm not saying that. I'm just saying in general.
When I stepped off that plane in Philadelphia.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
Yeah, oh you felt it in your bones. I was like, damn,
I was like, why is it gonna be so cold?
Like it really does suck.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
And it made me realize, like I'm not saying I'm
a senior citizen in New York that retires to hey,
I'm gonna move to Florida to retire and die, which
is what all New Yorkers do. Oh you go to Florida, Oh,
to retire for twenty years and then die. That's what
most East Coasters do. That should be their state slogan,
Florida where New Yorkers go to die. I thought it
was I'm not saying I'm a sixty seven year old guy,
(05:37):
but even when you hit like forty, I've noticed that
when I go back to the East Coast, call me soft,
call me a wimp, but I got.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
To your face because behind your back, I do it
all the time.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
It's to my face. Okay, I got no time for
cold weather. It really does stink. So I could understand
where a veteran athlete would say, you know, playing in
a nice place when it hurt either, because when I'm
driving my kids to school in the morning and it's
seventy degrees in southern California.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
I get the view of the mountains, and I don't.
I put on a hoodie palm trees.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
Yo, I had to put a when you have to
scrape your windows and start your car before you bring
your kids to school, and you're scraping your windshield like
damnedly to me, I could understand that last element for
Aaron Rodgers makes total sense. Absolutely. I think Colin hit
it on the head. Totally agree with him. Last time
we talked about this, the rams didn't seem to be
(06:30):
an option, or they weren't definitely an option. I think
that's the solid move for him, especially if they need
a one year guy.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
All right, So again, Cavino and Rich do you agree disagree?
Give us a call eight.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Seven seven for the herd. But we are looking for
people to play our game. Quote me, easy, multiple choice,
easy breezy again.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
If you want to play, let us know. I'm ready
to play. Let's do it.
Speaker 5 (06:54):
Sports media and athletes are quoted a lot, stars tracked
other Shaw. Here comes the hot take.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Quote, Andy Wee should step down his head coach.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
This is not a one game.
Speaker 5 (07:05):
We asked him be called a los in this game?
You guess the talking head.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
You can quote me on that. Quote me? All right,
here we go. What U g in this game? You
need to tell me who in the sports world said it.
Let's meet our contestants in New Jersey sharing a twin
size mattress with his radio partner Steve Covino yo literally
(07:29):
literally to his left with BedHead from earlier today, Rich Davis.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
Well, it's up, daddy.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
And for the record, you know, for people, Covino and
I are not together, though there is speculation of this. No,
we're the Burton Ernie of radio. Yeah, we sleep in
the same room. I'm married with two children. Everybody, at
least we.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
Want you to believe, all right, and looking to win
a seeing our stainless steel swiggy on the studio lines.
Let's go to Shorewood, Illinois.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
Denise, Hey, Denise, Hello, how are you guys? We're good?
You're ready to play?
Speaker 5 (07:59):
All right to play?
Speaker 2 (08:00):
I love listening to yourself. Ah, thanks you much. All right,
here are the rules for quote me. The first contestant
with two correct answers is the champ. If there's a tie,
I have two overtime quotes. Ready to go, Your name
is your buzzer, But you do have to wait until
all three possible answers are read. If there's two wrong
answers in a row, we move on to the next quote.
Are you ready?
Speaker 4 (08:18):
Yeah, let's go.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
All right, guys, here's the first quote. As far as
Soto saying he has a better chance to win with
the Mets, you know that's his opinion. He could say
what he wants. I definitely disagree with him, but I
wasn't too surprised by it. You know, he got a
good deal. He's gonna be in a great spot. It's
gonna be great having him in town. We're gonna be
battling back and forth for quite a few years. Quote me,
(08:42):
who me a hal Steinbrenner, b Aaron Judge or Ce
Garrett Coleno Coveno Go in there first quick.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
I'm a Yankees guy. That's Aaron Judge.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Yes, that is Aaron Judge. Oh, who is already rocking
a beard? Yeah, he's currently growing double as we speak. Yeah,
and let's hear how that sounded. You know that's his opinion.
He can he can say what he wants. I definitely
disagree with him, but I wasn't. I wasn't too surprised
by it. You know, he got a good deal. He's
he's gonna be in a great spot. It's gonna be
great having him in town. We're gonna be battling back
(09:16):
and forth for for quite.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
All Right, Coveno on the board sounds like.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
Play at the beginning of that one more time. He's like,
you just that's what you do. That's his opinion.
Speaker 6 (09:27):
He can he can say what he wants. I definitely
disagree with him, but I wasn't. I wasn't too surprised
by it. You know, I got a good deal. He's
he's gonna be in a great spot. It's gonna be
great having him in town. We're gonna be battling back
and forth for quite.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
Steven Coveno on the board first as we go to
a round two, and this quote is on the NBA
being boring with no personality. Do you know why we
like Anthony aunt Man so much because it's the first
time we get a pulse of somebody having a freaking personality?
Quote me, oh me, is it a Kelvin Washington, b
(10:05):
LeVar Errington or c. Chris Grussard Denise, Denise, I'm gonna say,
b Yes, LaVar Arrington Denise jumps on the board and
here's what that sounded like.
Speaker 7 (10:22):
You know why we like Anthony aunt Man so much
because it's the first time we get a pulse of
somebody having a freaking personality.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
Damn, I have another LeVar quote.
Speaker 7 (10:35):
Are you ready?
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (10:36):
I like to sit in hotel lobbies and pick my feet. Yeah.
Did he say that with shoes on or shoes off?
I love? Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
We were at the Super Bowl, Denise and LeVar who
I love two pros and a cup of Every time
I went in the lobby. That guy was laughing with people,
had a cocktail, and he had no shoes on.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
I think maybe he lost the super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
It's a look all right so far. Covino and Niece
both on the board as we go to round three.
This quote is about Luca's performance Wednesday night. He's really sad. He,
I think, for the first time in his entire basketball life,
had his confidence shaken by being traded and by what
they said about him. And I think he is deeply
in his own head. Quote me who me?
Speaker 4 (11:20):
Is that?
Speaker 2 (11:21):
A Nick Wright? B? Brian Windhorst or C.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
Rob Parker, Oh, Rich Rich, I think it was who
was again? Nick?
Speaker 2 (11:33):
Right?
Speaker 4 (11:34):
It was Nick? I think it was Nick right?
Speaker 2 (11:35):
It was Nick?
Speaker 4 (11:36):
Yeah? Okay, yeah, no, no, no, I saw that on Instagram.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
I faked that clip. So that's so I was like, wait,
who did I see? All right, it was at a
vampire Nick Nick Red.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
Okay, let's hear how that sounded.
Speaker 4 (11:48):
He's really sad.
Speaker 7 (11:50):
He is.
Speaker 8 (11:51):
I think for the first time in his entire basketball life,
had his confidence shaken by being traded and then by
what they said about him. And I think he is
deeply in his own head.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
All right, So three way tie here a heated game
between Covino, Denise and Rick.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
Do you want to comment on that quote?
Speaker 3 (12:11):
Ye?
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Yeah. When you are built of the competitive.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
Nature that Luca is built from, and you've been playing
competing against professionals when he was fifteen sixteen years old,
this kid was thrown out to the Wolves when he
was a little boy. Yeah, may have stung him a
little bit. But if you don't think that motivates.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
Him, you're out of your mind. Yeah. I think it's
more motivational.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
I think Danny is He's not sitting here like, whoa
my feelings are hurt, Danny. He's like, yo, I'm gonna
show them because I'm a competitor. I promise you once
playoff time comes, Danny, you you're a lucky Lakers fan,
because I think you're gonna see a passionate Luca and
Lebron realizing he has very few, you know, chances left.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
I think the Lakers are going to be fire playoff time.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
I mean, especially like these foreign players. You think they're
bothered by that it upset them a little bit.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
I'm sure, what do you care? You gonna be watching hockey? Yeah?
You know what, that's a great point.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
Yeah, a bit of an overreaction. I think what Luca's
more frustrated about is that nagging injury. Yeah, all right,
so we'll go to a tie breaker here, hopefully around four.
And I'm gonna read the quote here. This is this
is uh, it's self explanatory. Here we go. It's about
Aaron Rodgers though, how far has your career fallen that
you are begging the Jets to stay, Not the Cowboys,
(13:24):
not the Steelers, not the forty nine Ers, not the Chiefs,
not the Eagles. You're begging the Jets to stay, and
they said no, quote me, who me? Was that A
Jonas Knox, B Jason Smith or C. Doug Gottlieb HENI
Denise for the win, I let's said Doug Gattlieb. No,
(13:45):
oh Rich Rich for the steal and the wind?
Speaker 4 (13:49):
I it was Jonas.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
No, you both losers, damn it.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
It's all right. That means it's still a tie as
we go to overtime.
Speaker 4 (14:00):
All right, man, this is as exciting as the hockey game.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
All right, here we go. It's very hard to write
their their O bit as an obituary. It's very hard
to write their O bit, very hard. The chiefs were
in good health, and then their ticker went, quote me
wote me was at A shady McCoy, B Colin Cowherd
or C. Joy Taylor Denise for the wind?
Speaker 4 (14:28):
I have to jump in. I hope it was Callin.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
And indeed was Colin Cowd. Denise wins a shiny CNR
swiggy congratulations.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
Oh, I am so excited. You have no idea.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
This is great.
Speaker 4 (14:45):

Speaker 3 (15:26):
Well listen, coming up, we still have weekend Hobnobbin. What
to watch in the world of sports and entertainment over
this nice weekend? And uh, here's an interesting one based
on a conversation we had with Covino's mom. Again, you know,
we're in New Jersey, so it was a nice thing.
We had dinner with Covino's family last night.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
And I want you to think about this, what athletes
does your mom like? Who does she have the hots for?
Speaker 3 (15:52):
Is that where you're getting Yeah, Like it's really funny
to reason why your mom likes him?
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Why the hell's your mom like him? It's really funny.
Covino's mom was like, like, oh, I like him. I
like The names she threw out were hilarious. So if
you have a.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
Funny story, because I'll set it up because my story
might be even more ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
My brother Jimmy, Yeah, my brother James, Yeah, the story.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
Why is his name James? You will be shocked. In fact,
I'm gonna make you wait. All right, Why is my brother?
Who's he named? That named James?
Speaker 4 (16:24):
She he supervised?
Speaker 3 (16:24):
And look, no, whyus my dad jumped off the top
of the bed TV did in the South.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
No, my mom had.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
A crush on an athlete in the eighties. Hence my
brother's name is jim. I'll give you the answer next.
Cavino on Rich hang it for Colin on The Herd.
Speaker 5 (16:40):
Let's go be sure to catch live editions of The
Herd Weekdays and Noone Easter not a Empacific.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
An exclusive What Mike Javis Rhymerel Hockey Recap. We talked
about it first hour because it was so impressive. It
just was like, that's how you do it. Edge of
our seats last night. Not even a hot but thanks
again at Nick Javis if you want to check it
out Jayavas Again, we're Covino and rich In for Colin
(17:07):
on The Herd eight seven seven four The Herd.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
Congrats again to Denise. I'm glad she won a swiggy again.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
If you want to qualify for prizes, follow rate and
review our podcast Coveno and rich While you're at it,
over promised our bonus pod that's on Fox Sports Radio's
YouTube page. You can watch it see our punchable faces.
And again We're on five to seven on the East
every day Monday through Friday, two to four on the West,
but again live from Jersey right now, excited for the weekend.
(17:34):
And I gotta tell you about my mom real quick.
My mom typical Jersey mom, not that typical because she's
a Makana Jersey bomb, right, but she still says coffee, coffee.
And we went out to breakfast this morning, Mark Twain diner,
Taylor ham Egg and.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
Cheese, Yeah me, salt pepper. Catch.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
It doesn't get better than a New Jersey Taylor Hamson.
And you know, before we get into weekend hobnobbing, what
you need to watch sports.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
Entertainment and don't call it pork rol to tell you
what she said real quick, Steven, do you know who
Zachary Levi is? I'm like, yeah, we've had him on
the show a few times. Yeah, what about him? He's
an actor exactly. Oh he's so handsome. I like zach Levi.
I'm like, gross, I relaxed a little young for you. Mom.
(18:27):
Dad's right here.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
You show him a little respect, right and yeah my dad, Yeah,
I don't know, I don't care. So my mom starts
talking about zach Levi and then Rich jumped in and
started talking about well, his mom had the hots for
somebody growing up.
Speaker 4 (18:44):
So that made us think of.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
You know, those are they're weird athletes that your mom
always talks about. It's really what they're saying about. Thought, Yeah,
it's like, yeah, I think he's handsome. I remember tell
us about Mary Anne. So my mom is a big
Raiders fan. So Danny G and Ryan you would get
along with my mom. Well, in fact, Danny J. Was
so kind when my mom visited La He gave her
(19:09):
a bobblehead of a very particular athlete because as a kid,
my mom had such a crush on Jim Plunket that
she named my brother James.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
Yeah, but I don't know, maybe it's Jimmy's real dad.
I'm like, Jim Plunkett. So Danny g thank you.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
Danny gave my mom a Jim Punkett bbblehead and she's like, Ritchie, I.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
Have it on my dresser. I'm like, all right, relax one.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
But you know what that that goes to show you
the importance of certain players too, because she's been a
lifelong fan since. So it goes back to the Travis
Kelsey thing where so many young women are a fan
of him because of the Swiftie fandom and everything else.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Yeah, so to get rid of him as counterproductive in
a lot of ways.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
But when you hear your mom talk about like, oh,
they thought an athlete was handsome, it does feel weird,
but it's also very funny, like like a year ago,
as a Raiders fan, he did nothing for your team, Danny,
But to quote my mom, Jimmy Garoppolo is the best
Raiders quarterback since Jump plunk It as far as looks go.
Speaker 4 (20:15):
And you have to be like, yeah, mom, we need
to stop a stopolo with that.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
You're freaking me out, so again we open it up
to you just for fun eight seven seven for the
Herd eight seven seven, forty eight four thirty four thirty seven.
Everybody knows that eight seven seven eight four thirty four
to thirty seven or hit us up at Covino and Rich.
So my mom's going on about Zach Levi, the actor
Rich tells this story about Jim Plunkett, and I'm like, Mom, curious,
(20:43):
name some athletes you thought were handsome growing up. And
it's so funny because the first one, she says, kind
of looks like my dad, right, your mom has a type, Yeah,
my mom has a type. She goes, I always thought
Dennis Ecker's like really handsome, and my dad kind of
looks like the mix of Yanni and Ravishing, Rick Rude
and the ec like Dennis Eckersley that's older, likes a
(21:04):
mullet and a mustard. My dad, mom likes a mullet
and a mustang. Was handsome. So funny, I.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
Said, who else? She goes Doug Flutey. I was like, yeah,
Doug Flutie. You know what. We saw him at the
super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
He has what I believe Colin Cowherd invented he has
what they call quarterback face, right, like a quarterback face.
Doug Flutie, for sure, he's one of those guys. And
she goes.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
Dan Marino was really handsome, and I'm like, you know
what he was?
Speaker 3 (21:36):
That was Dean Marino was the guy that was in commercials.
He was an Astern tour. A lot of moms were
had the hots for Dan Hark. She said, you will
you I think I missed this one. She goes, and
I always thought Freddie Freeman was kind of cute. I'm like, yeah, cross, Mom,
you like uh so basically like Biff Tannon. You like
Biff from Back to the Future.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
He hasn't looked like that since his younger years with
the Braves.
Speaker 4 (21:58):
Yeah, I don't like.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
As a Yankees fan, I'm like, yeah, I don't want
to hear about it anyway, that's funny. So anyway, those
are the ones my mom said, But it is kind
of funny to hear. Danny g what would your mom
say about that?
Speaker 2 (22:08):
The last time I heard my mom say something uncomfortable
about an athlete like that was Tim Tebow strong Chin.
Speaker 4 (22:17):
Yeah, he seems like such a nice guy.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
He's got morals and he's a handsome enough fellow.
Speaker 4 (22:23):
Exactly.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
My mom said to that she goes in cheater of course,
like it was obvious. Yeah, but that just a funny,
random thing, just a dumb thought that if you've never.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
Thought about it.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
Now we put that uncomfortable thought in your head as
we get to the Herdline News. Let's go, No, no,
this is the Herdline News.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
All right, fellas caught me there. Hang on one second,
call you your pants down? Yeah, well you were asking
me about my mom and I didn't have my laptop open.
Here we go, since you are both fake hockey fans,
we're gonna start with the NBA sports media was very
critical of Lebron just a couple of nights ago because
he missed those two threes at the end of the
(23:07):
Hornets game. But just one game later, Laker head coach
JJ Reddick had something to say after forty year old
Lebron dropped forty big points to lead LA to one ten,
one h two win over the Blazers. Reddick said, he
really just defies anything that's normal, and not just the
physical feats in the plays. It's the mentality. He's a billionaire,
(23:27):
yet he's playing on the second night of a back
to back at forty after twenty two years, with every frickin'
record in every accolade. It's like he's just amazing to coach.
He sets the standard for how you're supposed to approach
this craft.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
Didn't Alhill say he had the the riz he was?
Didn't he say something about him being the rizzler and
not everyone's blazing him and everything else. Let me tell you,
Lebron is doing stuff that no one has done at
that age.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
I've said it before, and I think we're gonna and
I have to admit, he's a skippy rizzly bear.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
You know what you gotta think about, Danny J. You
got to think about how when we were when you're younger,
you can't really assess someone or really appreciate them sometimes
until they hang it up. They say that a lot
about politicians and presidents, like you know, you may look
back and say, oh, maybe they were better or worse
than we thought. I think you could say that about
athletes sometimes. And I think when Lebron officially hangs it
(24:19):
up in a couple of years or whenever that time comes,
I think we're gonna look back and there will be
people that say, you know what, maybe I didn't appreciate
him as much as I should have because I get it.
Speaker 4 (24:29):
It's fun to make fun of Lebron.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Oh the flopping and oh maybe oh me Bron, And
some people think he's about himself. But I think when
we look back one day, I think he's gonna have
more of a favorable view for most people. Easy to
tease him here and there when he's in the game,
but looking back star in every way.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
Name one basketball player who just is loved by everybody
because it has a big personality, maybe like Shaq. Imagine
if Lebron was loved like that along with this play,
legendary play on the court.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
And I also want to point out Lebron for the
most part. In a world of social media.
Speaker 7 (25:09):
Nobody loves Lebron do way they love Shack. That is true,
Shack Shaq Blockafee. I start my own podcast. I think
that it's better than your podcast.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
I think that we also take regretted that Lebron plays,
that they have social media where there are guys we
glorified Michael Jordan's and all the eighties and nineties players
Barkley and where I think if they were under the
social media microscope, they would.
Speaker 4 (25:37):
Have hit some obstacles that they avoided.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
But you know how you asked, like maybe some pop
stars and rock stars of the eighties, and they're.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
Like, thank god it wasn't social media.
Speaker 3 (25:45):
I think a lot of those NBA players would say,
thank god there was in social media.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
So I think what Lebron is doing as a man
is even more impressive as a father and as a dad. Yeah,
and you know what, what think about that?
Speaker 3 (25:58):
Some of the criticism is that what he loves his
kids so much and he does everything to try to
get him to his full potential.
Speaker 7 (26:05):
My kid's two and I was a rap star, push
nickens and I was a movie star.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
And so that's lots of icy hot. All right, thank you,
thank you, broke check. All right, we'll move on here.
Both you traders have ordered this team Canada Jersey today.
I'm sure. Nathan McKinnon, he was named MVP last night
in the nation's face off. McKinnon scored three goals in
the three game round robin, starting with Canada's four to
three win over Sweden. He then added two goals in
(26:30):
a five to three victory over Finland in Canada's third game.
Which of course sent them into the final versus our
US team. Well deserved honor for McKinnon, who got Canada
off to great early starts. Your guys' thoughts on the MVP.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
No, man, I thought the whole thing was great. I
thought the whole thing was fitting the MVP. Great choice.
I also thought I was huge that Connor McDavid was
the guy to win the game, you know, the Four
Nations title in overtime it was Peru. Listen, movie, man,
I'm telling you we were on the edge of our seat.
We're obviously pulling for the USA. But I also thought
it was fitting that Canada won. I mean, when you
(27:07):
think of hockey, you make of Canada. But also there
was a sense of I think it sets it up
for next time, Like, you know, next time, it'd be great.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
If you're trying to highlight your sport.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
It would be like the NBA doing some huge international showcase,
you know, all star level. When don't you want Steph
or Lebron or kad or Giannis or someone like that
to make the winning shot.
Speaker 4 (27:28):
But you know, when you're star is the guy that
does it? It Just you know, I think it's good for.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
The game and you know what, Danny, I got to
ask you, being the big NBA guy. You know, the
Baseball All Star Game, believe it or not and the
home run derby. I think they got it unlocked. I
think that's fine. I sometimes I think maybe home field
they should put that back in the mix for the
World Series.
Speaker 4 (27:47):
I think so too. But you know, NBA All Star
is the one that gets criticized the most.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
I think people love the NFL so much they give
him a mulligan on the Pro Bowl the NBA. Does
this make you think maybe in internet game where it's
like US Stars versus foreign stars is a good idea.
Do you think maybe that one on one million dollar
prize for the Stars? Does this make you have more
interest in that now?
Speaker 2 (28:10):
I don't think so. I like the direction they're moving in.
Just all those breaks and all those comedy performances and
musical guests and all that. It was just a little
too much in between the actual play. Because there was
defense played, it was a lot more competitive. So I
think they're onto something with that. And then with the
four team final was a lot more competitive than we
(28:32):
have seen in past All Star Games. That's why I
think they're moving in the right direction.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
But I'm telling you because I did watch it, Danny
g I watched both.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
Start contrast between both because last night felt huge.
Speaker 4 (28:44):
Yeah, they felt like it felt like so much was
on the line. I gotta ad minute. You were right
one more Dani Wiche.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
Yeah, we're gonna wrap with the NFL here NFL dot
Com wrights. Aaron Rodgers is likely gonna play a wild
card role in the NFL carousel if the former four
time NFL MVP was to continue his career. He's of
course going to be released from New York. He's gonna
have to find a team willing to give him a shot.
But what is he looking for in a new team?
TMZ tracked him down. He was in a happy mood
(29:11):
after a workout, and they asked him what factors he's
taken into consideration if they want you, Rogers responded to
the question. He also said he's considering the potential squad
put around him, and he wouldn't mind warm Weather.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
I can't disagree with any of those sentiments. Like I
said earlier, the more I think about Aaron Rodgers and
the quarterback carousel.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
Let's look at it right now.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
Aaron Rodgers Matthew Stafford, and of course you got Sam
Darnold because now, yeah, but his cousin's gonna end.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
Enrich, don't forget Rich. The Rams do have Garoppolo, who
you were just talking about, kind of waiting in the wings.
Speaker 4 (29:51):
Your mom will be happy about.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
Yeah, he could just be a bridge quarterback for a season.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
He's more of a spokesmodel three or three quarters. But
there's a lot of guys where this is why the
NFL wins. Because I am so intrigued now that you
bring this up. I already forgot about hockey. Where's Aaron
Rodgers gonna go? Where's Matthew Stafford gonna go? Where's Sam
Darnold gonna go? Kirk Cousins? Does he get life somewhere?
Speaker 1 (30:16):
Was?
Speaker 3 (30:17):
Or is he written off? And then you know you're
assuming the Niners are gonna pay party?
Speaker 4 (30:21):
Right? But is that a fact?
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Like so you know, then there's the rumors last week
about if you're any if you're a fan of any
of those teams? Right, yeah, you excited about Aaron Rodgers seriously?
Or do you think he's suit for I don't know,
like chill in the cave someone. I'm not what he
does I'm not b s. I'm looking you'd be excited.
Look at you in the way he played with the Jets.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
And I think you this.
Speaker 3 (30:44):
I think you disregard how he ended the season pretty strongly.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
I disregard him now.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
I'll never disregard the greatness that put him in that
position and his great, stellar career that he had. But
you think that he's got any other quality season or
two win them, I think it would be optically terrible
and honestly just a bad human move for the forty
nine ers to be like, yo, later, Purty, we're going
Aaron Rodgers for one year. But if you told me Rock,
(31:08):
Perty's like, oh I hurt my foot, I'm out for
a year.
Speaker 4 (31:11):
What are we gonna do?
Speaker 3 (31:12):
I think Aaron Rodgers for one year on a team
that's close is still not a bad idea. Some people
could write them off and say, yo, you're out of
your mind, rich, but I think I would.
Speaker 4 (31:21):
Love to see it.
Speaker 3 (31:22):
But I disagree, respectfully. I think I think Aaron Rodgers
with the right line and the right weapons at him, man,
I don't see that.
Speaker 4 (31:31):
I think you're crazy to think he's done. I think
the Jets are just poison. I really do.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
I think the I think no matter who goes there,
Joe Montana could win there. Tom Brady could have went there,
and I think they would have failed. I think the
Jets are cursed.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
I think that.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
But the simple fact that the thirty two teams and
I just named like seven quarterbacks and we're like, we
don't know where they're gonna be, just shows you the
offseason intrigued while the NFL Draft coming up gets so
much attention.
Speaker 4 (31:53):
The NFL drafts.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
The NFL Draft went from a bunch of old dudes
with you know, brown and tan phones in a conference
room with wooden panel walls in the eighties to cities
are bidding on getting the NFL Draft in their city
and thousands of people crowd the streets and cheer and
it's a big event. So with two hundred thousand people
in Detroit, so you know, Green Bay getting ready. So
(32:17):
NFL Draft, you know, we're talking about maybe a third
of the quarterbacks in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (32:21):
We're not knowing where they're gonna go.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
And then a team like Danny G's Raiders, Tom Brady
has the same things and you're like, all right, is
it Sam Darnold, do they go with Shidhar Sanders.
Speaker 4 (32:30):
Did they take a chance on an Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 3 (32:31):
So the fact that there's so many question marks, and
like you said, in these type of scenarios, and you
saw this in the baseball offseason, sometimes it takes one
piece to fall and then everything else happens afterwards, like
everyone's waiting on the first move, like all right, the
the Rams cut or release Stafford, boom, and then and
(32:54):
then the Domino is just all like, all right, that team,
that's it. And so I think we're like they were
gonna get ready for a really exciting NFL off season
and I'm pumped more than ever.
Speaker 4 (33:04):
And with baseball, that's gonna be exciting, I think.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
And now that your new love of hockey and the
NBA playoffs, what a time to be a sports and
the Yankees are growing beards man, what a time to
be a sports fan. And coming up next here at
Cavino and Retch as we wrap the show and get
ready for the weekend. Thank you again for Colin and
the Herd for letting us fill in. We're gonna go

behind the stories in the world of sports and pop culture,
stories that won't other shows don't seem to have the
time to discuss. And the fact that we've been friends

mean that says something.

and of course on social media that's Covino and Rich,
and later on search Covino and Rich wherever you stream
your podcast, follow, rate, and review. We appreciate it, CoV
I and O Covino and Rich. We talked about hockey
last night, like why did it feel so big? Why
was it so fun? And the contrast between that and
(34:45):
the NBA All Star weekend, But we also talked about
the Yankees' facial hair policy, which is like a major holiday.
Speaker 4 (34:52):
I'll tell you what we're getting.
Speaker 3 (34:53):
We're getting a ton of social media feedback out it
because this morning, Cavino, being a big Yankees fan, the
news broke and I like, YO, need your instant reaction
go because we've talked about it, honestly ongoing because I've
said it, you said it. It's twenty twenty five, and
for them to have the facial hair rule seems so
outdated and antiquated that if they didn't get rid of it,
(35:16):
I felt like you were on the brink of losing
some free agents and some players that are like, YO,
twenty five, don't tell me what to do. I don't
think the acquisition of Devin Williams and making him shave
was really the last straw here, and I really felt
like it was any day they were going to change it.
So when I woke up to that news, I was like,
no way, we were right on it. And again the
feedback's coming in, and a lot of it's from my friends,
(35:39):
right that I grew up with Yankee fans here in Jersey.
My buddy James hits me up, right, he goes, damn, bro,
I'm on the fence about this. Yankees and beards goes
against tradition.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
He's the WEENI your friend.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
He goes, it's like seeing them report to work in
sweats instead of suits.
Speaker 5 (35:57):
Right.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
And then my other buddy Jay Rod hits me up and.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
He goes, bearded Yankees a monster nobody's ever seen less God,
because you know Aaron Judge is gonna show up with
a beard, and you're like, oh, that's what he wanted
to look like before the Yankees were holding him down.
But it's so funny, man. You know, you gotta evolve
in life. Innovator die, you know, it's a compromise. They said,
(36:21):
well groomed beards. They're not, you know, expecting people to
come in looking like a hobo's. It's a great compromise
and it's time, right. It seems perfect and fitting for
today's game. Yet you're still gonna have opinions split down
the middle. It's so wild to see. Well, you know
what it is, the the the current beard or I
guess you would say groom stubble is the same as
(36:42):
a seventies or eighties mustache, which they allowed, right, so
stand yeah, they're sticking with groom. They're just saying, like,
all right, I mean, honestly, mustaches only just sound so
honestly seventies disco and eighties. You know, I have packed
the PI decision. We talked about it first hour, check
the podcast later and now. Something we do on our
(37:05):
show every Friday, what you need to watch the world,
the sports and pop culture.
Speaker 4 (37:10):
We call it weekend hob nobbin in For the weekend.
Speaker 5 (37:15):
You're winning bets for talking points. If you get stuck socializing,
you ever done anything dangerous? You ever dance with the
devil in the line, Friday brings us weekend hob nobbin.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
All right, I'll kick it off again. I'm Steve Covino,
Thanks for checking out the show.
Speaker 3 (37:31):
Covino and Rich five to seven on the East, two
to four on the West, Monday through Friday. I'm a
fight fan. As you know, I'm a Yankees fan, but
I'm also a big fight fan. So this weekend, Rich
a name that you've heard me talk about for years.
You always laugh about it. Bitter BEV versus Bible Beevil
Bivil better be versus Bivil two as you remember Better.
(37:54):
Viev got the best of them the first time around.
He won the first twelve round fight majority decision. The
Beta BV of him and that's on the zone. So
some good fights on that card. But the winner of
this fight probably gets David Benavitez, the Mexican Monster.
Speaker 4 (38:13):
So who he saw last month exactly.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
So the one seventy five light heavyweight division heating up
this weekend. Guys, if you're a casual fight fan, this
is one to watch. And again, Bible. I call him Bible,
people call him Bivol, Bivol. He's the guy that beat Canelo. Yeah,
if you guys remember so, Big weekend.
Speaker 4 (38:34):
I will watch that.
Speaker 3 (38:35):
I make fun of you because I just make fun
of Covino because he's the boy that cries best fight
of the year, every fight, but this is a big one.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
I'm bad battle.
Speaker 3 (38:43):
But in the world the UFC, you got UFC Fight Night,
our boy, Henry Sujudo, back at it, the cringey song,
you're don' so so who versus your don' you're dung, No,
you're don't and again another great card Middleway come an event.
Speaker 4 (39:00):
You got Allen versus Hernandez. So you got some good
boxing and you got some.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
UFC and let's go Vato Loco Henry Sejudo.
Speaker 4 (39:09):
Really cool dude.
Speaker 3 (39:10):
Yeah, triple C triple cringe, but a really cool dude
like that guy. And something I haven't gotten around to
yet because there's so much to watch. And now it
was all about Cobra kaid of Sakai to Kai last week,
that American murder docuseries on Netflix.
Speaker 4 (39:23):
Gabby Patito. You know, we it was a big story.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
Yeah, we all remember the story, but believe it or not,
that was twenty twenty one, so that.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
Was four years ago.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
Oh ready, just about and apparently like there's a lot
more detail to the story.
Speaker 4 (39:36):
That you get from this unfortunate documentary. But I just
love a great documentary.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
So again, Gabby Patito American murder doc on Netflix. If
you want to check it out, that's what I'm watching. Well,
as soon as we say audios in like five minutes. Yeah,
I'm hopping on a plane back to Lax and I've
downloaded all this episodes for this season of Love is Blind.
Speaker 4 (39:58):
I've watched the first couple.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
There are already ridiculous love triangles. It is the most
trash TV there possibly is. But Love is Blind is
delivering so far, Danny g I love it.
Speaker 2 (40:10):
Oh yeah, And they've received a lot of criticism for
casting all these generic white dudes who look alike.
Speaker 4 (40:16):
They all look like Rich shut up. Yeah, uh you
know what.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
Though, we heard you laughing, Ryan, Yeah, Rich.
Speaker 4 (40:23):
We all agree.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
Though, on a side note, if you like dating trash
TV love triangles.
Speaker 4 (40:28):
Like Rich, does Love is Blind better than like The Bachelor? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (40:33):
Honestly, Love is Blind is very entertaining because you know, there's.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
More stand out crazy girl this season two. Rich, she's
tatted on her stomach up to our boobs. She will
stand out for sure.
Speaker 4 (40:44):
Let me tell you there's crazy dudes too, and women.
Speaker 3 (40:46):
Just the idea that these people are trying to fall
in love without seeing each other's face is ridiculous. So
love is blind. Also, I'll never get Covino to watch,
but maybe the rest of you. Paradise with Sterling k Brown.
It's six episodes in now. It might be the best
show I've seen in a long time. It's on Hulu Paradise.
I don't even want to give away a twist at
the end of episode one, but it's probably the best
on any streaming service.
Speaker 4 (41:07):
You know.
Speaker 3 (41:08):
You know, the more Rich pushes this on me, the
less I want to watch. But I ever haven't heard,
you know, this much buzz about a show in a
long time. Every single person is Sterling Kate Brown, even
though I only have room in my heart for one
Sterling and that's John Sterling. M But uh, you know
it props to our old pal Sarah Shah. Yeah, so
Paradise is great. Cobra Kai, if you haven't watched that,
(41:30):
it's amazing. Cast of Gold, Danny g I'm guessing you're
on that because it's a little behind the scenes of
the NBA.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
Yeah, the headline yesterday Netflix Court of Gold sets the
standard for sports documentaries in twenty twenty five. The director
had all this access to the Olympics. He says, I
know we're strangers. His name is ro Gal. This is
a moment in your life. That's cool. He told the players.
I want to capture it so you and your family
can watch it twenty years from now.
Speaker 4 (41:53):
Perfect.
Speaker 3 (41:54):
Honestly, if you watch receiver and quarterback, you know this
is the NBA's version that. But they're saying better and tomorrow.
Getting back just in time for two great little league games.
Speaker 4 (42:02):
The teal Ice.
Speaker 3 (42:03):
Crushers and uh that's my daughter's football team, and the
te Ball Rockies, my son's team.
Speaker 4 (42:07):
So very exciting stuff. Man. Well, good luck with that.
We'll see you guys on Monday.
Speaker 3 (42:12):
Have a great weekend, Ariba there you baby, see you
have a good one.
Speaker 4 (42:16):
And thank you Colin and the Herd. Goodbye.
