Speaker 2 (00:22):
And I apologize if I said the Yankees won, they
lost today. Five nothing, So my apology, Steve no vinol
kidding it's making Hey, you think your you think your
days bad. I just told everybody across the country and
the globe that the Yankees actually won.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
So that's that's my phone got me all excited. Five
nothing they lost. Man, you know what if you don't
believe me?

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Bumpballs softly up the middle fielded by Sweeney steps on
second throws to first. Tigers win, brand Herder close it
after a strong six innings from Terrek Schooble, mckinstreet incloring
Carpenter all with home runs ball park our final score.
The Tiger's making five straight too straight over the Yankees.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Scooble W. I mean scoobl six innings. You know blank,
you'r yanks. She can't get upset about that. I mean
was last week, because yeah, I feel like Bayer is
a rich guy, Rich Davis guy right there. That sucks
because that's three in a row for the Yankees. Rich,
and I have money on this.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
I love you know so much that I'll tell them
the Yankees one even when they didn't.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
So five in a row for Detroit, six in a
row for your Mets. Rich. As far as winning, well,
Polar Bear pizza. Right now, Lindor grounded out. Soto got
a nice little single, So we'll see what happens here.
They're down two one to the Marlins. They moved a
lot of the East Coast games up just for the record,
East Coast and Midwest because the weather's so cold that

(01:49):
a lot of teams have moved the night games to
afternoon games. That's why you're thrown off. Yeah, so you know,
Rich and I, if you don't know, we do a
Patreon broadcast right before we go on Fox Sports Radio. Now,
normally i'd be able to watch the Yankee game, but
they moved it earlier because it's so damn cold that
I didn't know what happened. And then on my right here,
I was talking to my mom, so I really didn't

(02:10):
get any updates, but it's good to be here on
Fox Sports Radio again. Congrats to Billy Ell. By the way,
Billy Elle, who had the best bracket and the Tractor
Supply Fox Sports Radio Practice Challenge. Billy finished with an
impressive one hundred and seventy six points apparently beat the
second place winner. Billy will win twenty five hundred dollars

(02:31):
in gift cards oh to Tractor Supply, which is awesome
for him and as far as the host go. Chris
Plank finished first with one hundred and sixty five, followed
by Plaxico Burrows and second for Chris Plank. Thankfully, when
you have a neighbor like Tractor Supply, teamwork comes easy.
Whether you're caring for Pats chickens or a few acres

(02:52):
our team members, Attractor Supply here to help. And again,
thank you Tractor Supply for life out here. And by
the way, Dan Byer, did you see that a double
down the down the first base line.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
I'm all, mister met because of a survivor pool this week. Okay,
but I also just went back to the tape. Okay,
this is what I said at the top of the hour.
Let's see if we can hear it here? Who apparently
are still waiting for Aaron Rodgers. Tigers beat the Yankees
today five nothing.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Oh you know what I heard? I heard the Yankees
won five nothing. See it wasn't even your dad, wasn't
even just Hey, it's all good, Cleve, you're good with me.
We're cool, man cool. I just can't believe the Yankees lost.
That's how delusional I am. There's no way they lost today.
So wow, man misheard Dan? What a way to start
the day. And what are we to tie the game?

(03:40):
Mets two, Marlins two, Pete Alonzo a b loop along
the first base line. Here's our question for you as
we think about last night Florida Houston. You couldn't ask
for a closer game, right? I mean, the losing team
had the possession of the of the basketball with you know,
ten twenty seconds left, they had a chance to tie.
And Michael Yo, who lives in Vegas, very funny comedian,

(04:02):
well of our old school pals, he said, yeah, you
guys should discuss for at least a minute. What's worse
when you lose by missing the game tying or winning
shot or not even getting the ball off. Not getting
the ball off that was? Is that?

Speaker 4 (04:17):
Like?

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Is that more disciplined? It's way more.

Speaker 5 (04:19):
Disjointing over seven just over seventeen seconds to get down
the court and get a shot off.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
There's no excuse for that. I'm sorry.

Speaker 5 (04:28):
Even with tight defense, you've got to get the ball
out of your hands.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Here's why I know that has to be the answer,
because I had to watch it again to fully grasp,
like what just happened there. I'm like, all right, I
gotta i couldn't believe what I had just seen. I'm like,
he didn't even get the shot off. That's lame? Is
that obliss to prevent the double dribble you saw at
the very end, he like tried to box people out
like someone else.

Speaker 5 (04:49):
Yeah, he had to let the ball bounce and take
his hands off.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Yeah, but that was really weak, the weakest way, in
my opinion, you could lose. Yeah, you want to at
least get the shot off, but man couldn't even get
it off. You know what It's like. It's a it's
like at the end of an NFL game. And I
get it, not every game's going to end on a
hail Mary. But I always found that week, asked when
an NFL team had like one play left and the

(05:13):
quarterback took a sack or a guy caught a ball
over in the middle and didn't even try to do
a lateral and he just sort of like went down.
It's like, come on, at least create the illusion that
you're trying. Give me some desperation shot again, That's why
it's called a hail Mary, give me something, throw it up.
Don't do what you did there. And that was horrible
and that's hard to live with. You asked him how

(05:35):
he feels about it today. It was both a chaotic
ending and anti climactic ending at the same time. Well,
it plays on right now, and it's just, yeah, you're like,
what he didn't get it off. That's a hard one
to swap out here. Ah, And he knew, you know,
to box him out the minute he jumped up, and
he realized, if I shoot this, maybe he should have

(05:55):
held on in hope for a foul. I mean, hindsight's
twenty twenty. But if he holds that ball cave, you
know that defender's coming in hard, maybe you get a
foul call. You just gotta feel bad for Houston because
how often does a team like Houston get this opportunity.
That was their window shot. And now who knows when
you're gonna get back. The NC Double A is tough,
march madness, not easy to get back unless you're like

(06:17):
Yukon women's basketball. It could be another decade or so
before they ever in the final four. Yukon's been there,
they they I'm sorry, Houston's been there competing. They went
to the final four. Is Kelvin Sampson's first Final four
with them into twenty twenty one, So I think they'll
be in the mix. But yeah, to get to the
title game and you're already slated, Duke, You're in the
title game down by two with the ball, like you know,

(06:39):
you gotta clutch shot. You're the national champions. You hit
a shot, you tie the games. It's it's gonna be
tough to live with.

Speaker 5 (06:45):
That was sharp, by the way, who was forced to
drop the ball after Clayton rose up to block a shot.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Yeah, he had a couple of blunders down down the
stretch there, but not throwing away my shot. He threw
away his shot. I feel bad for him. I feel
bad for Kelvin Samson when they zoomed in on Sampson's
face at the end, he's just staring into the distance.
I want to talk to Sam what I want to
talk to Samson? It just like happened, and he's just
watching and he just like staring and you're like, I

(07:10):
just feel terrible for the guy. That's what I'm saying.
So to answer Michael Yo's question, it's a great question too.
What's up Michael Yo, famous comedian and broadcaster listening to
our show. If he if sharp just threw up the
shot and he missed, Ah, you know it happens, right,
He had one last shot. Not gonna throw away your shot.

(07:31):
He threw away that shot, that one shot, and that's
the hardest pill to swallow. Like everybody has that one girl,
that one guy that got away.

Speaker 5 (07:39):
Like, ah, it was a tough play because with that
kind that big arm in hand right at his shooting, you.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Could try to take the foul kinds. In his mind,
his shot was gonna get blocked. Richard cries about stocks
that he should have bought, should have, would have, could
have investments. You should have bought in all that property.
I should have bought it when it was available. This
dude is gonna forever ever, ever, remember, not getting that
shot off forever. Not getting the shot off is way worse.

(08:09):
Not taking that shot is way worse than shooting it
and actually missing forever, forever, forever, for ever, because there's
always the comfort in knowing that you took that shot.
And I'm using that as a metaphor in life, right, Hey,
better to known that you tried and failed than not
getting off the shot. Yeah, that's horrible, man. You know
how I give the analogy when they don't even get

(08:30):
off the hell mary or don't even get off the
play in the NFL or college football. I feel like
a guy like Carlos Beltron. Carlos Beltron, it's got to
haunt him, you know, borderline Hall of Fame career. As
Francisco Lindor said yesterday, I got a lot of work
to do if Beltron's not in the Hall of Fame.
Carlos Beltron an amazing career, one of the best defensive

(08:54):
center fielders, clutch player. He carried the Astros, remember that
postseason like damin it like a great player. I still
think his greatest highlight is when he painted his head.
I mean that is That's the one I picture. He
has a black painted head, already has a black painted head.
Believe he was on the Rangers at the time, right,
But I mean, Carlos Beltron, I know we're going back
almost twenty years, but I know it was the sickest

(09:16):
curl curveball, some would say in postseason history. But when
he just watched Adam Wayne Wright's curveball strike three, Cardinals
end up going to the World Series, How was your shot?
I mean, you don't think Beltroll was like, oh man,
I looked at strike three in Game seven? You looked
at it. I mean, think about it this favorite. Let's
say you had a million dollar shot. Do you want
to at least take the shot or not get it off.

(09:39):
I'd rather take that shot and miss than wonder. So
it is better to have loved and lost than to
have never loved at all. That's it, Sam, Way to
wrap it up for real, I didn't come up at
the time.

Speaker 6 (09:49):
Was right.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
I'm gonna say he did that. That was a good one, Sam.
I don't know how, Sam, he came up with it.
I don't know how you love it, but it was great,
very eloquent. So again it's Cavino and Rich the Yankees loss.
Let's be clear on that. So now I'm sad you
not to quote, you know, Sam, I was Sam. Quote
I was Sam. I believe he said better to have
loved and lost. He did say that. Now I like that.
I want you guys to think about something else or right,

(10:11):
I'm gonna pose a question, and I want you to
think about it, who or what? Who or what? Because
maybe it's a group of people who who or what
is better when they're fat? Because there's a trend going
on and Edelman and Gronky are not okay with it.

(10:34):
So before we get into cockiness and confidence, we never
got to that. Yesterday, before we give away prizes and
play last one standing here on the show, we got
to talk about who or what is better when fat?
And listen, it's terrible because fat also means you're saying,
I like you better unhealthy? Right, right, of course you've
got to point that out too, right, there's some health
benefits involved in this conversation, So we do it respectfully.

(10:58):
But this is all based on rob I'm Gronkowski and
Julian Edelman anstering about today's NFL coaches.

Speaker 7 (11:05):
You want to know what's a disappointment here is that
these coaches are starting to get in shape now. Man,
They're looking like they've been working out with the players,
throwing some routes, going for jogs.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Like.

Speaker 7 (11:14):
There's a lot of positional coaches that are still looking
like coaches. But these guys right now are looking slim,
looking jack looking like they go for a run, actually
looking like they go and lift some weights. But we
need coaches to get fat again. Remember we wanted Dolla
to get fat when he was coaching with the Los
Angeles Raiders. That's a true typical coaches. When they're fat
and overweight, that means you're the best out there. So

(11:35):
I think the problem is is that o Zempe came out,
so they gotta start testing. It should be on the
ped list for these coaches. We need them fat again.
It makes football better.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
Is he saying make coaches fat again? Yes, he's saying
make coaches fat again. He's saying o Zempic is changing
the game. And it is not only in sports or coaches,
but in Hollywood and real life and the life. We
see it all over the place. I don't know if
coaches are on it. I don't know that, but I
do know that he's onto something. When you think of
these younger guys to Sean mcvay's of the world, they're

(12:04):
young and in shape, and the time of the Andy
Reid type of coach is sort of going away and
Gronk is saying, Yo, that's not how it should be.
I get more respect for the fat guy coach. And
it's kind of funny when you hear them talk about it.
So it makes you think if coaches are better fat,
And that's how I do picture coaches like old coaches,

(12:26):
just like old fat guys, but they're not anymore. You're
just picturing Andy Reid. Yeah, but I just you know,
like Parcel and dudes like that John Madden later on,
bigger guy, like bigger guys Romeo Crinella or even like
Mike McCarthy. You know, but there is a trend of

(12:46):
like younger, fitter. You're picturing guys like Sean McVay who
got muscles, and so picturing like you're your old high
school coaches. Right, it's like the fat gym teacher or something.
So who or what based on that is better fat?
And is there a number one answer? Because I think
of one person in particular, and then one genre in particular. Okay,

(13:10):
is the person the same that you, Me and Big
Michael agreed with? Who you know the guy that runs
his place? Mike never heard of him. I'll throw it
out there. I don't want to give away the number
one answer, but I might do it now. I'm wondering
if we're all think of the same thing. There's an
actor that to me was better fat, and I'm sure
healthier now and good for him. But John Goodman, ah No,

(13:33):
that's not where I was telling me. John Goodman. I'm
sure that's a good answer. He's feeling good, he's feeling Southern.
But I think of King Ralph John Goodman. I'm thinking
Roseanne John Goodman. Now, John Goodman's like a slender fellow.
We have to quit. He quit drinking. That's what he said.
He's like, I got rid of the rage for me
and I so again, that's why we say respectfully. We
understand he's healthier and good for him. We're happy for him.

(13:54):
But I'm with rich. When I picture John Goodman, I
picture like Babe Ruth Babe fat John Babe.

Speaker 6 (14:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (14:00):
There's there's a list of comedians and comedians who have
lost some of their funny once they got thinned, like
Jonah Hill there. I was thinking of a few yesterday
when we were talking.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
About it has to be the number one. What in
genre of people like comedians often associated with being funnier
when fat and when they lose weight.

Speaker 5 (14:18):
Gath again has been joking about it because he shared
his weight loss journey recently.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
That's right. But my answer, the first one that comes
to me is like a Drew carry Oh yeah, right,
like he was no longer funny someone someone would say
he was never funny. I don't know. I thought he
was a funny dude. But like as the host of
Price is right, he's just like, ah, he's just the
host now, he's nothing really funny about the guy anymore.
And not again and again respectful, respectfully. Sometimes when someone's

(14:46):
a bigger fella and they lose that weight, their head
looks big or something, right, that's funny, it's hard. I'll
give you one. And she's addressed it. So it's not
me being you know, I know where you're going. It's
not me being rude. She's addressed it. But her character's
name in Pitch Perfect was fat Amy Rebel Wilson looks
beautiful and thin man in shape, and I feel like

(15:08):
this is a bad conversation, probably healthier. But Rebel Wilson
has said that she's looked at differently because people looked
at her as like the funny big girl. I got
another one. This is the truth. Don't try away from this.
I'm not don't let don't let twenty twenty five, bet
you twenty twenty five. Don't let gen Z be sensitive
people in my ears and his body. Don't let it.
But I'll say it.

Speaker 4 (15:27):
I'm say it. Say it.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
Come on, you're gonna tell me. Adele is better now
than what she used to be. Like she had credibility
to me, she had credibility, like, oh she's a big one.

Speaker 5 (15:38):
Are you also saying you like big Luther.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
It's like it's like, don't fool me. Like remember when
CNC Music Factory had that big woman singing and they
positioned it with like some fit other woman. I think
had more credibility when it was the other woman, because
you're thinking of Mama cass Elliott. She could reap the
Franklin big she's got the mask, he's got them piped. Yeah,

(16:03):
like the Felts and that I give that credibility like
Adele to me now like hot Adele or like good
looking Adele. Yeah, healthier Adele. I give all the credit
in the world.

Speaker 5 (16:12):
You're talking about Martha Walsh, by the way.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
People is that she's just as talented and people are
just as funny. But for whatever reason, it's never the
same as Martha Walsh, the bigger woman they got she is.
Oh you know, people once said, you know it was
over when she sang. But people didn't know, right, right,
people didn't know, So get it over when the fat
ladies saying who or what is sort of better for
Because there is a trend in the NFL. According to

(16:38):
Gronk and I mean according to us Gronk and Edelman,
they say coaches today are not the coaches of yesteryear.
Coaches of yesteryear were sort of sloppy and overweight. Coaches
today slim and trim and fit. They're polo tucked in,
real nice. Well, you know, Robert sal Comedian jacked like

(16:59):
solid salad. It looks like a guy that would be
He looks like a fitnish instruct Robert Fell looks like
the instructor that's trying to sleep with your wife, Like
at the gym, like, hey, what's a Robert salad? Great
example of a ripped coach. Now, I was thinking, like
comedians and hosts and stuff. It's there. There is something
he said about comedian Matt Rife, who's like the young

(17:20):
handsome dude. Yeah, it's he breaks the mold and it's
almost tough in a way to be the I guess
you would say, like young handsome comedian like him, goes, Yeah,
he can't be too good looking. No one thinks you're funny,
and you can't act like you're the smartest guy either.
You can't be too smart because then you're talking down
to people. No one likes that either. Like, I'm sure,
how would we receive it at Fluffy Gaba glacias. What

(17:42):
if he just got all trim? His whole character is
like I'm Fluffy, see, but I think it's on the
It's really on the audience. Is he any less funny?
I don't know. It's a weird thing. Are these coaches
any less good? Yeah? But you remember like comedian John Pinette,
his whole bit was based on like you in here
four hours he was at the buffet and like a

(18:03):
lot of these jokes relied on like a fact to
find a new act. Like, you can't call him fluffy
if he's not fluffy, right, Like you know what, I
know it always bothers me when a hot female comedian
talks about like the woes of dating, I'm like, stop it.
You could date itim stop. So yeah, just the question
a thought based on Gronk and Edelman's conversation. It was

(18:24):
kind of a funny one because you do see the difference.
You do see the expectation of what a coach used
to be and what a coach is now or what
the trend seems to be. These guys are younger and
more fit than coaches previously. Well, you know it coming
out to to make a point here, Let's also keep
in mind that you can't hate on someone because people

(18:44):
will try to better themselves. That's and that's that's the bummer, right.
It's like you, a lot of times, actors, musicians, athletes, coaches,
they'll they'll trim up and instead of people being like, oh,
congratulations for all the hard work you did, you know,
people say, oh, I missed the fat you. You don't
think that messes with them a little bit? Absolutely? Yeah,

(19:05):
it's not it's not fair. So that's what I'm saying.
It's probably on us and our expectations as the viewer
or the audience. That's not me or cominal blame Gronkin Edelman.
And they know you may have a personal story like yeah,
my buddy, you know, I liked him, but yeah, and
now he's he's all thin and full of himself, because
they're saying o zembic is changing the dynamic of friendships

(19:29):
all over the world because that person is no longer
the person that they once were, so they're not even acting.
I had a college buddy who's a bigger dude, but
he leaned into it like his whole persona in college
was Yo, I could eat more wings than anyone. I
could guzzle be fat Larry. He wear a big Hawaian tea,
you know. And what happens that guy he did that

(19:52):
guy when he slims up, he almost has to adjust
his I guess you would say it like this person's
whole personas becauself esteem. It sounds I know, it sounds ridiculous.
Your self esteems up. Maybe not if you're the beer
and wing guy wearing Hawaiian shirts all the time and
you lose that weight. Yeah, you having your identity exactly,
you have to adjust, like it's a good adjustment for

(20:13):
your health. But if you're the guy that everyone's like,
you know, Larry, and you're the guy that's ripping off
your you know, you're shaking your belly like your chunk
from uh goonies, and you're doing cake stands and eating
you know, fifty wings and everyone's like, man, fat, Larry. Fat.
Larry's like, yeah, guys, I'm gonna get the salmon with
rice and I'm really trimming down and I'm a different guy.

(20:33):
Now that's an adjustment because people like, come on fat
so uh Gronk Edelman, very funny clip. Do coaches need
to be fat? We're looking at the NFL now there's
more ripped coaches than ever because people care about health
and fitness the end in our stupid brains. What are
some other things that are better when they're bigger, right

(20:55):
when they're fat? I got a few answers. Let me
know if you agree, Spot said, Horatio said he was
funnier when he was bigger. But I have people, not
necessarily a person. Okay, how about home plate umpires? Way
better on their plate? Oh, specifically right way bigger as
a fat guy, no doubt. All right, that being said,
how about literally catchers, right, didn't you have confidence? You

(21:18):
know when the great hand Bino was behind the plate,
no diggity, no doubt, or her first baseman. Wait, can
I actually comment on So there's a bit of an
optical illusion going on though, because both the umpire behind
home plate and the catcher where a guard, and so
it makes him look bigger than they are. But I
always look to have bellies as a kid that took
the mound Iowa, Sam, you know little League superstar that
I was. Let me tell you how great I felt

(21:39):
when it was a big kid behind home peaked at
twelve by the way, Yeah all right, ready another another
position or person that's better when they're bigger. How about
a chef. If a big fat chef beard he comes out,
you don't you give him more credit? Like especially one
of the.

Speaker 5 (21:53):
Most one of the most famous runes when we were
kids was that chef on the motorized scooter.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
H he was so big he couldn't walk. Remember, I
love it. They don't want a skinny chef? What does
he know about food? How about this rich you're gonna
love this one tuba player or trombone player. I don't know.
I feel I know, like the bass drump player in
the Marching band. It's more impressive. Yeah thin oh if
they're thinn No, man, I don't give them any credibility.

(22:18):
I got two people that one I don't want to
lose too much weight because I feel like it's our identity,
and one that's very different looking.

Speaker 8 (22:27):
Now.

Speaker 1 (22:28):
Hell, I know health was part of it. But Randy Jackson, yeah,
yea American idol. I know some of it was health related,
but but he looked good and he wasn't like super big,
but look, I get it. How about his health as well?
What about a guy like Jelly Roll if he got
too skinny, isn't his name is?

Speaker 5 (22:45):
Yeah, And there's some actors and actresses and singers who
actually look better with weight on them, Like think about
Ariana Grande right.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
Now, dude, Yeah, totally yeah. I mean it goes both
directions here, No, it absolutely does. But this is based
on that conversation. Just want to have some fun with it.
Wrapping up your phone calls and then DB's got an
update and we'll talk about cockiness and confidence. Who do
we got that. That is our buddy Trip in Vegas.
What's up?

Speaker 6 (23:08):
Trip, Hey, Trip, Hey, good afternoon, guys. I got a couple.
And then I think the number one answer goodness, good
to Tokyo. I would go with Melissa McCarthy. I don't
think I've said that because she lost all that weight,
and you know what, that's funny.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
The whole show her and actor Billy Gardell. Remember Mike
and Molly. It was based on them meeting at a
like a dude, have you seen Billy Gardell? He lost
a lot of weight. Man, I mean, God bless him.
But and again, I do think that's on us. It
is unfair, but it's a very common sentiment that, oh,
I mean they were funnier.

Speaker 4 (23:40):
It really is.

Speaker 1 (23:41):
It's unfair, but it's to feel that way, yes, right, yeah?
What else? Trip?

Speaker 6 (23:46):
Okay? And then genre? How about opera singers? I don't
want some skinny opera dudes.

Speaker 1 (23:51):
Totally, bro, I'm picturing was skinny. I wouldn't care at
Pitt and Rod. Oh, you can't have that guy being
one hundred and thirty pounds eighty pounds one thank you,
Trip Eli and Fresno, what's up? Man?

Speaker 3 (24:03):
What's happening? Rich, what's happening?

Speaker 1 (24:05):
Covino?

Speaker 6 (24:05):
I got a Google for you, guys.

Speaker 1 (24:07):
Guys, what's up? Just one?

Speaker 6 (24:09):
He ain't sink we're talking about epics. He took a
magic he took a magic Ozanpik.

Speaker 4 (24:13):
Who do we love better? Buddy Love on the The Muddy.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
Professor Buddy Love? Buddy Love was he was a nightmare. Yeah,
Sherman Klump was a real nice man. But you know,
just just to prove it, how sometimes when someone's a
little bigger, they're more lovable. Who's like the most lovable
baseball player over the last twenty years, like Bartolo Cologne
and why because he was like a bigger guy. Yeah,

(24:39):
that's the other weird part of the dynamic.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
Right.

Speaker 1 (24:42):
Oh they're so lovable, but they're not happy a lot
of times in that situation. So again we understand it
sounds selfish, it sounds weird, but it's just based on
his coach theory. Appreciate everyone listening to the podcast. Just
search Covino and Rich wherever you stream, follow rate and
Rey you and make note of this. Two reminders? How

(25:03):
about three? Three reminders? Make note? Do I hear four? Nope? Three?

funny dude on social media, really motivation with the kids.

But thank you guys for hanging out with us on
the daily again. I'm Steve Cavino, that is Rich Davis,
Danny g Buyer, Sam Spot, Everybody's here. Thank you guys
for hanging with us. Now. It was a story yesterday

(26:50):
that dan Orlovsky was saying that we have to have
the same energy about Shador Sanders that we did about
Baker Mayfield. Dan Orlowski, you mean the guy that made
me shed tears with the beautiful story about his son
first and first and mostly all right, Gorish last week
was Autism Awareness week. That was the most beautiful story
where his son's artwork death, the ESPN touch that made

(27:14):
me cry as much as the dude from Love on
the Spectrum, Tanner on the Kelly Clarkson Show meeting Jack Blacktow.
That was incredible. Yeah, that show itself, Love on the
Spectrums incredible. Shout out to Connor and Tanner. But yeah,
Danner Orolovsky's son, that was beautiful. I shed one Voto
tier you know I don't have many of them. Yeah, dude,
I don't know if you know. I Vottos have ninety
six tier drops they could use in their life. That's true,

(27:35):
and I used one for Orlovsky. So everything I say is,
you know, respectfully. He says, we can't praise Baker Mayfield
and fall in love with Baker Mayfield because of his riz.
He didn't say that, but he said because of his charisma,
cockiness and his self belief. And then kind of you
are different with Shador. So that's Danner Alovsky on the

(27:59):
criticism of Shador Sanders. Now, do I understand what he's saying?
Do we understand what he's saying? Absolutely? I get it right.
What's what's good for the goose should be good for
the gander or whatever. We gotta treat these things equally. However,
I want to remind everybody. I don't think we all
love Baker Mayfield in the beginning. That is one accurate, right.

(28:19):
We gave Baker Mayfield so much. Fuck about his dance
moves and his cockiness and his commercials and his dedication
to football. Like, we gave that dude so much. He
just played his heart out so hard and proved us
all wrong and he kind of won us over. I
think so. I think the same should apply for Shador.
If that's how we're If that's how you view Shador,

(28:40):
then in the same way, then yeah, he's gonna or
he should win you over eventually with his dedication to
the game and his toughness. I think that's the one
hole in the dan Orlowski analysis of Shador and Baker.
You're a hundo percento right, thank you, Yeah, I love
I'm not coming at him. I'm just saying that. Agree

(29:00):
with that because I root for Mayfield now, But I
remember not liking the guy. There were times where Cadino
would come on the show and be like, look at
him doing his stupid dance. He hasn't proven not anything.
We grew to love Baker because his cockiness was checked
a little bit. His conways went into conference and it
was humbled, right, humility. It was as as your mom

(29:23):
hates when you say humbleness. I say humbleness, My mom says,
it's humility, you idiot. His humility is what made you
love Baker Mayfield when he saw some tough times and
you're like, all right, this cocky kid got checked a
little bit and he came out on the other side
humble with his humbleness. It's humility, and I think that's
why we love Baker. I've always thought there was a

(29:45):
big difference between cocky and confident, and I think this
applies very much to the dating world because listen, let's
be honest, it's all the same, right the workplace, dating sports,
it's all just personality, traits and relationships. Yeah, when you're dating,
when you're and you're in the dating scene or a
single lady, what's up, Beyonce? I was the difference between

(30:07):
confidence and cocky was the ability to laugh at yourself
and not take yourself serious. You could be a guy
that's like, man, that guy's pretty cocky. But if he
is always okay to be the butt of the joke,
he makes fun of himself, he doesn't take himself serious,
does it with a smile? Does it with a smile?
He could be cocky, but people are like, nah, it's
a confidence. Cocky is when someone is so sure themselves.

(30:32):
But my goodness, don't you dare question them because like
they they don't like the joke ever at their expect
cockiness borders on arrogance, right, And what is the eliminator
of that? Like I said, I think Richard said it
like doing it with a smile and just the true
belief in yourself. That's confidence. We work with people. I'm
not gonna say here or there or when, but there's

(30:53):
people that get in their own way because I'm like,
you know, they're cocky like they and that erupts everybody
that we need right here. Yeah, no, no, but there
is there's a fine line, like I'll use myself as
an example just to keep other people out of the conversation.
Feel yes, I feel like that's the vibe that I
might give off until you really get to know me

(31:15):
and you're like, oh, yeah, this guy doesn't take himself
that he does it with a smile. I could see
I have a resting de face and people would assume
that about Yeah, but I rest resting deface, Yeah, resting
defate rest. I do think Cavino is one of those guys.
You could look at me like he's cocky, but then
you realize the fact that Cavino can make fun of
himself and you know, takes a joke. He's confident. 'd

(31:37):
say he's not cocky, it's funny. So your thoughts the
difference between confidence and cockiness in sports, Baker Mayfield sort
of earned everybody's respect. He graduated from cockiness to confidence
because when I think about the difference, Yeah, confidence comes
with a smile. Confidence also comes with your back. By results,

(32:02):
Mayfield proved to everybody that he was a bona fide
NFL player and he could ball, but not only that,
he was I think he bumped into the iron cheek. Yeah,
because he was humbled. He was, you know, and I
know what you mean by that too rich. And there's
so many personal examples you could sort of tie in
if you want. I remember my uncle telling me I
was heartbroken, dude, heartbroken over a girl one time. And

(32:24):
then I think I got like fire from a job
or whatever, but I was heartbroken over a girl. Was
Steve's no good, very bad day. It was Steve Cavino's terrible, horrible,
no good, very bad day, right, fired and dumb, And
I remember like, wow, she was the best thing that
happened in my whole life. And I remember my uncle
saying to me, I went to my uncle for advice.

(32:44):
What should I do? How do I get her back?
And he's like, well, I know something. Let me be
honest with you. I like you better this way. I'm
like why, He's like, because you're humble. Now you've been
humbled for the first time, because you know what, I thought,
nothing could stop this guy. I was arrogant and I
was cocky, and I was backed by nothing and no results.
It was just in my own head, in my own belief.

(33:05):
So that's the difference between cockiness and confidence. The humility again,
the results. Yeah, Shdar Sanders is great, but he still
has a lot to prove, and that's fine. I'm sure
he will. But I think we need to remember that
we didn't all love Baker Mayfield. He has a name
after all, the humility, the hunger and again proving that

(33:28):
he could play in the NFL. Not saying that I'm
not rooting for Shador. I'm a big deon Sanders. Fan
absolutely rooting for the kid. But as Orlovsky said again today,
now here's the update. He might be one of the
hardest qbs that he ever had to rate. And I
understand that based on quarterback to a bat in his assessment,
and it's because the offensive line stunk so but he's

(33:51):
saying he has elite field vision and everything else so hard.

Speaker 5 (33:54):
And also a lot of his throws. Yeah, right off
the line of scrimmage with.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
A bad old line. This guy was making quick decisions.
You don't really have a lot of looks at Shador.
But to wrap up what you're saying about Baker, Baker
was tested and we saw Baker fail a little bit
and fall, and like you getting dumped and losing your job,
old Steve, yeah you were. You were humbled. Humility kicks
in and I think we got to see Baker, you know,

(34:23):
laying on his back, humanizes you, humanizes you, people relate
to you more, and I think we don't view Baker
Mayfield that way anymore because of all that. So that's
the difference. And like you said, Rich before, confidence comes
with a smile, cockiness. You're just tooting your own horn
the whole time. You haven't really proved it. And there's

(34:45):
hosts like that here on our network ESPN, CBS, Fox,
and you name it. There's people that you look at
me like, why are you taking yourself so serious? Like
the ability to laugh at yourself. I always say that
when it comes to dating as well. What makes a
guy cocky or confident with women? A confident guy is

(35:05):
sure of himself, but he's also okay being vulnerable in
front of the woman, acting silly, you know, being the
butt of the joke if he does something, you know, goofy.
That's confidence. A cocky guy is a guy that if
someone even chuckles or laughs at him, he was like,
what are you living to me for? It's just really insecurity?
In security and it's put offish. And I think that again,

(35:27):
and there's a finland of arrogance too. Right, So yeah,
there's the difference between cockiness and confidence. It's a thin line,
but there's a significant line there. And I'm not wishing
this for him. But let's say shoud Or goes to
the NFL. Right, yeah, dude, we wish nothing but the
greatest success for him, and he follows a Baker blueprint
in that Let's say let's say he ends up. I'm
just picking him the Giants. I know they seem stacked

(35:49):
in the QB room right now. But let's say he
did go there and he had a really rough go
at it, and the media was rough on him, and
it was like, man, sit Nor stinks. And then he
got a chance on a second team and he lit
it up. We'd all be like, there he is, like
so think about his dad, right, his dad had His
dad might be the cockiest guy that ever wore where
his dad during the draft told teams, I'm not gonna

(36:09):
look at your playbook. When's your draft packing? But I'm not.
Remember I'm also being gone by that dude. I remember
watching the Yankees when a young Dion Sanders Neon Dion
Sanders before he was primetime Deon Sanders. Neon Dion would
get in the batter's box and draw a dollar sign
in the batter's box and he was the most flashy
dude with Jerry curl right. But again, he eventually backed
that up with results when you realize, like, oh, you know,

(36:33):
he's not necessarily cocky, he's confident and he proves it.
You know, his son is cut from the same cloth.
Will he prove it? Absolutely? I think he will. But
I think that's the difference. That's the difference.

Speaker 4 (36:46):
To me.

Speaker 9 (36:47):
Confidence is unspoken. It doesn't need to be explained, like
you don't tell people, AHM confident, Yeah, the results Its
very similar to uh, when you see very wealthy people
like these billionaires, Like remember there was a joke.

Speaker 1 (37:00):
I know we all hate him now, but like where.

Speaker 9 (37:01):
We saw Elon Musk's kitchen and it was like that
old dated nineties wood or like how sometimes you see
like the CEO of Apple and he's out and he's
just wearing like polos and you know, khakis and a
polo and like they're not flashy at all because they
don't have to be. You don't have to prove it
because they know underneath they're sitting on near a trillion dollars.
Similar with confidence of cockiness, Like you don't need to

(37:21):
say I'm confident, You don't need to prove you're confident.

Speaker 1 (37:24):
You don't need to act confident.

Speaker 5 (37:25):
You just are confident.

Speaker 1 (37:26):
And you know what people pick up on that though.
That's the thing, and I think that's what cocky people
don't understands. Everyone else sees it, But dude, you're full
of I do want to point out that we can't
discount what a cool characteristic it is for a shod
or standsers to be so confident. Yeah, where and every

(37:46):
stage he said that wherever I go, I will change
the culture. Some people have looked at that and say,
who do you think you are? And then other people
are like I amn, other people like you know, it's
hard not to almost admire that level of confidence. Dude,
you know what he's saying, wherever I go, I will

(38:08):
bring a winning culture. And he's a twenty, he's a kid,
and if he does that, then he's proven and he's
awesome and we root him on moving forward. So again,
why aren't we treating Chadora Sanders confidence the same way
we treated Baker Mayfield. Baker Mayfield was hated on the beginning. Yeah,

(38:32):
I think I'm actually very curious about this guy. By
the way, I'm not even saying me. That's sort of
the sort of the perception I would say, if you
follow social media or what people are saying on TV,
or what you sort of get from him, it's he's
hard to evaluate because he does have an insane level
of cockiness or confidence. However, you want to look at you?

Speaker 5 (38:52):
Yeah, And it's hard to tell with these teams what's real,
what's the smoke screen, what they're lying about, who they're
really looking at. And dB reported earlier that he's going
to take a meeting with the Steelers, yeah, for one
of their top thirty meetings now that they picked twenty one.
So if he slides all the way down to twenty
one in, does that humble you? Or does that put

(39:14):
a fire under you? And you're like one of the
two quarterbacks we know so well who said all those
other teams made a mistake. I'm gonna show them, you
know I I do love that thought, like you know,
it could light a fire. But let me ask you this.

Speaker 1 (39:25):
Do you remember it was on the Primetime thirty for
thirty Maybe you Dan Bayer or Ira Sam will remember
Deon Sanders told a team when he was when you
know Primetime, was getting drafted. A team almost offered the
playbook and he's like, when's your draft pick? And he
declined because he's like, nah, I'll keep your playbook. I

(39:46):
won't be on the board by then. And I remember
people at that time who are like, how cocky could
you be? And you know, let's be honest. If you're
deon Sanders and it's you know, thirty years ago, you
think you're gonna if you got a late round, you
think you're gonna. Dion's still gonna be on the board.
I love that. I love that cockiness in that regard,
But when you back it up by results, all right,

(40:08):
So that's our take on it. And again, good luck
to him. Man. I hope the thing. I hope his
meeting with the Steelers. I almost hid pirates Steelers goes. Well. No,
if he was like that, he could play both. Yeah,
he was as good as Dion he could, you know,
and that's something well, you know, Otani is the closest
thing playing on both sides of the ball. I was
talking about that with some buddies last night. Well, he's

(40:29):
the definition of the difference between cockiness and confidence. Shohio Tani.
Who's smiling bigger than that guy, who's having more fun
than his Is he telling anyone I'm the best? No,
because he's riding straight up on confidence backed by results.
Show Hey Otani, I'm sorry, show, Hey Otani O. I

(40:53):
was I was talking to some buddies last night. I
don't know if you've been seeing some of the clips.
We all see the same social media clips a lot
of times, like Jameis Winston playing baseball in college at
Florida State and throwing the ball from the warning track
to home plate. It's a famous clip, like one hundred
mile an hour bullet. And you do realize that a
lot of these guys just have so they could have

(41:15):
played a lot of different sports. But we're just never
going to see a Bo Jackson or Primetime again like that.
And you know what, as we get ready for, as
we get ready for a little Last one Standing, which
is my favorite game we play here on Fox Sports Radio,
Get involved, eight seven, seven nine to nine on Fox
eight seven, seven nine nine on Fox. We're gonna play
that next. I saw a stat that Danny g hit

(41:38):
us up with, and we talked the other day about
just how tight the NBA playoff brackets are. We so
tighter than your jeans in the early two thousands. You
did say that Richie used to wear ballerina pants. We
were saying, how more so than ever, it's like the
difference between the three seed and the sixth seed, And

(41:59):
like there's a lot of there's a lot of seeding
still yet to be done, and it's proven by the
fact that there's a chart Danny showed us that nineteen
of the twenty seeds aren't even locked in yet. Other
than oksee at number one, every other seed from one
to ten in the Western Conference and one to ten

(42:19):
in the Eastern Conference. Of those, nineteen of the twenty
have not been clinched in an order yet, meaning depending
on how the team's doing the final games of the season,
because they are all within one or two games.

Speaker 5 (42:31):
It's wid Yeah, if the Calves beat the Bulls tonight,
then they'll lock in the number one seed for the East. Okay,
but as of right now that as we're speaking live
on national radio, there are so many seeds still sitting
there where we don't know what team is going to
be where, and there's only a couple of games separating
so many teams, especially in the West. Two games separate

(42:53):
six teams right now.

Speaker 1 (42:54):
Yeah, that's insane, and that that will effect home court,
that'll affect who you play, like there's gonna be people
maybe positioning like, oh, maybe we don't want to play
that team first, so much at stake in the final
week and then starting a week from today, I believe
is the playing games where we you know, see seven, eight,
nine to ten go at it. So NBA playoffs we

(43:14):
always talk about it just turns up a notch. So
that's one week from today we get the NBA. Is
that why the Nuggets fired the coach or what? And
then your credit is so tight If they're fourth in
the West forty seven and thirty two and they won
last year two seasons ago two, O'm sessed right. Two

(43:36):
seasons ago, now two seasons ago, I'm flying, Stevie. It's
still proven, though it's kind of shaky and kind of
interesting to think that they fired their coach NGM today
forty seven and thirty two. However, they lost four in
a row. The Nuggets lost four in a row and
they're three and seven in their last ten. Is that
really the reason why.

Speaker 5 (43:55):
You're a championship winning coach? You know, it's just two
years ago, so you think this is this has to
be more than just a four game losing streak. This
is something that went wrong in the locker room, the
leadership of the team, from the top down to the
locker and there's something going on here that we're not
hearing about.

Speaker 4 (44:14):
It.

Speaker 1 (44:14):
That's really it. What's stirring the kool aid here, the
fact that they're three and seven in their last ten
and lost for in row or is there something else
bigger going out? You know, there's something bigger and you
gotta you gotta connect the dots on that. And by
the way, Celtics fans very upset you forgot that won
last year. Well you just forgot the Celtics. Yeah, it
was like forgettable, forgettable. Yeah, no, I was thinking like

(44:39):
that was remember it was it was. It was Celtics beating.
Forget Jason Tatum celebration. Forget all emotional, but remember Tatum.
And you know we wanted Dallas to put up a
better fight the Mavericks that got shut down pretty easy.
But yeah, Celtics, we don't think we disrespected you. I'll
compare it to relationships because that's sort of what we
do here on in covinon Ritch and I think we've

(45:01):
all seen this with ourselves a friend or family member.
You could be dating someone and it might be a
little different with Mike malonecause they did win a couple
of years ago. But you ever fund yourself in a
position where you're like, yeah, like there's nothing fundamentally wrong,
meaning like we could exist together, we get along, we
live together. It's all good. And I'm just not in
love and I just don't think this is what's going

(45:25):
to take us to the next level. And when, as
they clipped that Dan Bayer played, when when everything is
really just based on winning, maybe maybe the Nuggets, deep
down inside and ownership thinks, you know, we're thankful we
won one. It was carried by the joker. Coach is good.
He brought the he brought the heap. Right now, you're
thinking to yourself, maybe this Maybe they look at the

(45:47):
field and they say, we're missing something, And I don't
know how you do that with four games left. That
was my point, though four games left. You did it
two years ago.

Speaker 5 (45:56):
And you guys liked Malone, remember at the parade. You
liked what he was talking about there, and he had
said something about being the Lakers daddy and all that, and.

Speaker 1 (46:05):
He was giving a little fights.

Speaker 5 (46:06):
He's appeared on our show a few times because of
what he says on microphones. He was definitely a fiery guy.

Speaker 1 (46:13):
But that's why it proves that there has to be
something that we don't know yet more to come.

Speaker 5 (46:18):
He's a good coach and already on Twitter I saw
some NBA analysts saying keep an eye on him to
possibly be coach Pop's successor in San Antonio. He'll definitely
land somewhere for sure. But this this is something where
personalities are head. Yeah, exactly with ownership.

Speaker 1 (46:35):
Because rich I like your analogy, like, he's just not
the one, right, I'm not in love with that, but
he was two years ago, so he's not now. It's
it's it's tough to says dB. I got to ask,
because I'm sure you're keep an eye on the story
all day. Has there been any hints other than like
maybe the Fitch just not right anymore? I know that's
very generic, right, Yeah, Actually there's a lot.

Speaker 10 (46:55):
Because Josh Kronki, the vice chair of Kronky Sports Entertainment,
spoke about an hour ago we played a little off
the top of the at the top of the hour,
and then in the show earlier, but he said a
few things this well, it was Josh Cronky.

Speaker 8 (47:10):
This wasn't a decision that was taken lightly or taken
as in a reactionary fashion to anything specific. You know,
having observed that group over your period of time. There
were certain trends that were very worrisome to me at
different points in time, but they would get masked by
a few wins here and there. And you know, in
the world of professional sports, when winning and losing is

(47:31):
your currency, you know, winning can mask a lot of things.

Speaker 1 (47:35):
So he said that, and then he went to this
when he gave specific numbers.

Speaker 8 (47:40):
We went on an eight game win streak right before
the All Star break. You know, but since then, I
think we're eleven and thirteen, We've lost our last four,
and we're trending towards a direction that I thought would
probably be a very near end to our season in
the near future.

Speaker 1 (47:55):
Okay, So yeah, I get the sense of that, of
that they think, come the playoffs right now with Malone
and Charge, they weren't going to stack up against the Lakers. Okay,
see Golden State where they're at, and I but you're
gonna shake it up. But right now and all of
a sudden.

Speaker 4 (48:09):
But.

Speaker 1 (48:13):
Because here's the trump card, this is where I think
people will be like, oh, okay.

Speaker 8 (48:19):
We were going to be changing this from these roles
at the end of the season. From that point forward,
I think that you know, I became comfortable with the
thinking of, you know, let's try to shake this tree
and squeeze, squeeze as much out of this as we can.

Speaker 2 (48:30):
So they had made a decision to already move on
from both of those guys before the season even completed.
And to their point, well, if we're going to do
this anyway, and now we're on a four game skid,
why not just cut bait now and see if we
can make anything of it.

Speaker 1 (48:45):
If they were already gonna do that. No, No, here's interesting.
Here's an interesting thought with very few games left in
the regular season as you head into the postseason. If
you got I mean, when you have the Joker and
you have that team, it's not like you're your wishing
upon a star, like they could go on a run
with the quality of talent they have on that team.

(49:07):
So what if you got the interim in there and
they did get hot. So it's not a crazy idea,
because if you thought, as he said, worrysome trends and
currency is winning, it's not a crazy idea when you
think about it in that way, not at all.

Speaker 2 (49:21):
And not to draw parallels, but there's two parallels to
the city of Milwaukee and I brought this up with
you guys when Taylor Jenkins was fired in Memphis. When
the Brewers fired in two thousand and eight, ned Yost
with two weeks remaining because they were battling the Mets
for the wild card. They canned ned Yost because if
they didn't make the playoffs, they weren't going to keep them.
The next year brought in Dale Swam moved over and

(49:45):
took over as the interim manager. They ended up holding
on got to the playoffs for the first time in
twenty six years, and it worked out for them in
that case, but ned Yost was likely going to be
gone anyway. I used the Bucks as the example of
now you've got Jokich and you just can't was it
just like the Bucks have kind of done with Gianni
since they won four years ago. I haven't done anything,

(50:05):
you know, in that time, and I think that the
Nuggets are now starting to feel that crunch of we
have to get more out of maybe this generational player
that we've only won one championship with.

Speaker 1 (50:17):
That's that's a great point, DV. That's a great point.
And you know what your thoughts if you want to
chime in on the Nuggets making changes and also if
you want to play our game. And by the way,
Dan Bayer said, Dale swam, he means Dale swee. Everybody
remembers the card Dale sweem when you got them. I

(50:38):
remember that baseball card remembers Dale swing. We do that
right now, last one standing.

Speaker 4 (50:48):
You have five seconds to battle for your sports trivia love.
Put your electro to convice this down and pick your
sports knowledge. It's CNRS.

Speaker 1 (51:04):
Last one standing, Last one standing.

Speaker 5 (51:09):
All right, I have four categories ready to go if
needed a tiebreaker. Each contestant gets five seconds to stay
alive in the round. If you run out of time
or you answer incorrectly, Iowa Sam will take you out
with his big bad buzzer. We keep battling until you
are the last one standing. If you win two of
the rounds, you're the top dog. Here are the contestants.
Six time winner Steve Covino, He sure's that seven. It's six,

(51:33):
you know, Brady. I have a chart in my computer
and in there the leader Dan Byer, twenty six time winner,
